Gross...

Exhausting. That was the only way he could put words into his feelings revolving around his bout with Gohan. It just did not go the way he had planned. Things started out... okay. He had got the jump on the youngster, that was certain. But, the kid had things hidden inside of him that not even the in tune with telepathy Vash could for see. Some kind of hidden evil force pulling the kids strings. Vash thought he might have been able to help the kid out, help get him back on the path to righteousness, or at least some kind of decency. But, alas, it just wasn’t meant to be. It had dawned on the demon’s mind that if he let the kid venture out, let him go one last time, that their paths would undoubtably one day cross again. And in that moment, the kid’s mettle would once again be tested. But, in the mean time, Vash had other things to do. During the fight with Gohan, Vash had to call upon the powers of the minotaur, Kimahla, a lot more than he had planned ever doing. This caused quite the toll on his conscience. It ate at him with each move that he had made, the minotaur with his taunting ways. “You need me,” Kimahla shouted at Vash inside of his mind throughout the fight. And it was true. Vash was outmatched against a boy far younger than he was, far less powerful in terms of overall strength, and yet, he was constantly defending himself despite opening up the attack. And, Lucifer be damned, he was right. Vash was mentally weak. And inexperienced in the art of battle. All of his hard earned training would be for naught if he didn’t sharpen certain aspects about himself. That is why he even came to Kanassa in the first place. He had to build up his strengths in his mind as well as his body if he hoped to use his plan with Kimahla the minotaur effectively. Otherwise, the minotaur would one day be able to overwhelm him and devour his soul. That... was not something that Vash wanted to experience. No thanks. Master Rota begged Vash to visit this planet. He said that Vash would be able to find all that he was searching for here, on Kanassa. He found Gohan, that was for sure. In a big way. But Vash needed more mental sharpening. He had been wandering around this forest for a while now. He wasn’t sure exactly where on planet he was, but he was here. Suddenly, out of nowhere, voices came flooding into his mind. He was used to this, for the most part. The minotaur often found ways to torment and heckle Vash from within, but.. this was different. Only because it was dozens of different voices speaking all at once inside his mind. It was almost unbearable to try to tell them apart. It could only mean one thing. That there were other telepathic minds in the nearby vicinity. This could prove to be very beneficial to him. Yep, he was determined to seek these people out. A quick scouter read from his helmet determined several power levels not that far away. It would be interesting just to at least check out the situation, Vash thought, as he began to make his way through the thick forest towards the location of the power signatures. His feet crunched and clopped through the light shrubbery on the forest floor. It kind of reminded him of the mushroom forest on Mortoseth, minus... the... mushrooms... Anyway, he trudged along through the trees and the bushes, random animals jumping and playing around, it was peaceful in this place. Funny, seeing as how two people were trying to kill each other not that far from here, but that was besides the point. The point was, there may actually be people that I could take advantage of... I mean... help me out... Thoughts circled about in his mind like water going round and round down the drain in a bathtub. What the hell was that... Master Rota warned that feelings and personality of the minotaur was possible to seep through and influence his own decisions and thoughts. He needed to get this situation under control and quickly. That was the problem with having two souls sharing the same body, no matter how good the benefits may be. After pressing forward, he stumbled across something... unexpected. A giant monolithic temple smack dab in the middle of the jungle. It was very, very old looking, like it appeared to have been here since the beginning of time. It was covered in all kinds of vines, small birds perched on top of the stone roof. There were aliens standing around wearing odd attire, they looked like monks that Vash had read about in ancient tomes describing a Buddhist religion, that specialized in mind training and telepathic powers and things of that nature. Vash opened his mouth to speak, but it appeared to not be needed. “Welcome, Master Vash,” one of the aliens said with a smile on his, or her face, he was not really sure at this point. “Please, come, right this way.” The alien waved his hand and pointed towards the inside of the temple. Psychics... Vash thought, Never cease to amaze me. Vash entered the hallowed entranced and found himself in a chamber completely lit up by candles, and a very wise man kneeling in front of a stone statue. “Come, kneel,” the man whispered as Vash took his shoes off one by one and settled down next to the old timer. It was weird, he didn’t know the man at all, but, all at once, he knew everything about him. He was the man that had trained Master Rota. He was the one that Rota had in mind when he told Vash to visit Kanassa in the first place. It was almost overwhelming and yet so casually easy at the same time to take in all of this information. Ja’vei was his name. Vash felt oddly at peace kneeling next to the man. He was so calm, and yet so actively engaged in this telepathic link they were sharing. Vash wanted to know everything there was to know about these powers. He felt like he would not only be doing Master Rota proper respect by fulfilling his wishes, but that he would slowly begin to gain a better understanding about his past in the process. All at once, he understood. If he wanted to begin to study with these monks, to gain the powers on display before him, he was going to have to be admitted into this society. And that meant passing certain trials. Three of them to be exact. The Trial of Patience, the Trial of Wisdom, and the Trial of Courage. It was a weird scene that had just played out. Vash had entered the chamber, Ja’vei said two simple words to the demon. Vash then kneeled down next to the wise old man and, after a few moments, stood up and left the chamber without saying a word. And yet, he knew everything that he must do in an instant. Such power... Vash needed it. The trial of patience was a week long meditation ritual in the heart of the forest. No food. No water. Only the sharpening of his mind and spirit in complete isolation. It tested his very being, but he was able to pass it. After gorging himself on a feast upon his return to the temple hidden in the forest, it was on to the temple of wisdom. A secret chamber located in the back of the temple that contained puzzles devised by the ancients awaited him. The first few were simple, but gradually increased in difficulty until Vash reached the very last one. It was the hardest thing he could do. He had to raise a series of keys into locks only using his mind... It was like the training he had received from Master Rota only amplified one hundred fold. One key in the wrong lock, and the entire process had to have been started over. By the time he managed to finish, Vash had exerted himself so badly that he actually passed out on the floor. He awoke back inside of the temple on a cot, a wet cloth dabbed on his forehead by a caregiver. Vash was incredibly greatful for the hospitality, but, at the same time, felt weak in his own sense. It took everything he had to pass that last test, and the tax it put on his body almost seemed like too much. He felt weak. Weaker than he ever had. But it was for naught. Ja’vei could sense Vash’s insecurities and was always there to put his mind to ease. The final test, the test of courage. The demon had to face demons of his own in order to pass this test. He had to venture through a nest of sleeping warbunkles, a feared predator of the planet. Cautiously, he made his way through the lion-like beasts, their massive chests rising and falling as they slept away. Vash closed his eyes and used his mind to guide him, resisting the urge to flee. He picked up an egg and brought it back to Ja’vei with great satisfaction smeared across his face. That night, the entire group at the temple feasted on warbunkle eggs with great delight. Vash had finally been accepted. The real tests were about to come, but, for the time being, he was so content with the amount of hard work that he had put in actually paid off. That night, as he was donned in ceremonious fashion with a sash belonging to this order of religion, he took the time to reflect on Master Rota. If only he could see me now, Vash said to himself. He smiled. It was also at this time that he realized that during this whole ordeal, he hadn’t even heard a small peep from the minotaur. Not a single chuckle, a single torment, no, he could barely sense him at all. “That is because the bond that I have placed inside of you is keeping him at bay,” Master Ja’vei spoke to vash through the telepathic link. Vash looked up across the fire at the wise old timer, who was shooting a look right back at the demon. “When I am finished with you, this same feeling will be yours without my help.” Vash smiled once more and nodded back at the wise master. Coming here might actually prove to be the best thing Vash could have done. It was only a matter of time at this point until Vash would become a psychic master. WC 1,802 |
