The Dragon of Valhalla
|
"Is anyone hurt?" "No sir, thanks ta all of you. I don't know what we would have done had you all not arrived. We were having enough trouble with the side kick, I'd hate ta think how fast we would have been destroyed. That transformation, it was horrifying. I can't...it's quite the shock." One of the Paladin's replied. "I understand, don't worry about it. Everything is going to be alright now." the half saiyan spoke up again. He had just floated back from the massive hole he had caused in the ground where the changeling had once been. He could still feel the evil he had sensed from the creature as if it was a grime that clung to his flesh. It didn't want to let go and would most likely bother him for a while yet. The worst part of it all was that the demon within him begged for a taste of it, for just an ounce of innocent blood. There had never been an urge like this within him and the fact that it was happening only served to worry him further. He had come to Avalon seeking enlightment and potential for good. He wanted to cleanse the evil within him once and for all, no matter what the cost. It had always remained deep seeded and played second fiddle to his own consciousness. It had helped him survive impossible situations and gotten him out of a number of pickles. Yet now it seemed when he was starting to gain enough strength to stand on his own that the thing wanted to escape it cage and take hold of his body. The implications of that were quite bad and he was concerned that it was calling out to the dark ones that hunted him. He snapped back to reality and realized that they were already headed back to the town to report the good news. He was uncertain how much time had passed or if he had missed any conversation. He shrugged it off and played as if he had been aware the whole time. He needed to make sure to keep a hold of his mental faculties, if he were to wander off in a bad situation than it could mean death for himself and those around him. It wasn't long before they reached the town and the Paladin's local headquarters. They were brought before a man that looked like he had spent more time behind his desk than on the field of battle. "Captain Nimway, we have returned from our hunt." The paladin from earlier spoke. "Oh? Well, that's good news. I assume all is well if you are all standing before me?" the captain asked with a bit of surprise. "Aye sir, had it not been for these brave warriors I'm certain we would not have been so successful." The paladin gestured towards their group with a wide sweep of his hand. "You don't say? Very well then, I suppose a reward is in order. Here is some Zeni for your trouble, and if you choose you are welcome to become initiates in our order." Strega stepped forward and bowed slightly in thanks. "I am honored, though I do not speak for the group. Their choices are their own but I accept your offer." he spoke. "Good, well then if you choose to join us I have your first task. If you are up to the challenge you may be welcomed as Paladins. There was another that sought the changeling. One of our 'veterans' you could say. I fear he has not returned and I'm quite engaged here. Find the one known as Ury and deliver him safely here. Then we shall see if you have the gall to be called Paladin." ------------------ WC: 620 PWC: 620 TWC: 620/5,200 |

The young Saiyan scanned the area with his scouter. The Cougon plains stretched for miles and were full of vast quantities of empty space, but that was not his concern. He had been invited by his tutor Ury to go and close the lid on some bandits nearby, but he had overslept and Ury had left without him, or so Soe'rim said. He had asked the guards at the checkpoint in the plains where his partner had gone, and they told him he had left hours ago. The Little Crumpet boy had rushed through the plains, catching a number of power levels on his scouter. He was still having trouble identifying the separate power levels, because he had a bit of bad luck - his knee wasn't cramping up like usual. This was painful to him, but always turned out to be more of a boon than anything else. This cramping had led him to Deneva, after all. He could suddenly identify 13 separate power levels on his scouter. Each was an average of 900 points, and that meant that these brigands were at least partly trained. He feared for Ury, for even though his experience was more than the boy's, he knew that in terms of raw power he had the advantage. The old man had even taught him to parry and defend against many attacks with his small blade, but he was sure that his blade would be a last resort here. The brigands Ury planned to route were probably a few miles to the south. He could tell because he had downloaded a GPS of Avalon with a certain shopkeeper's help and advice, and though the cold stung, his scouter had sent a signal that Ury had been lost to the nearest city guard-post. Raiosu wouldn't let himself think old man Ury was dead - his optimism demanded it. It was too early to start crying for this "boy." He had also missed Aimee. He knew she was on this planet, he had a similar power level on his scouter, and the day before his leg was cramping like crazy - telltale signs pointing to something going on here - but he had no proof. He also caught that some blue-haired girl was training here from some gossips. She was obviously not avalonian, for they would have white hair instead. From the top of a small plateau he surveyed the land, and huddled his white robe around his body. His tail was unusually spry, considering the turn of events, and the way it bounced pointed to good fortune down the road. He then descended down the side of the plateau and began to wander the fields below, his ki suppressed to about 8,000. As he wandered, he clasped his hands together somewhat like a holy man. ============= A few days have passed since then. And so the distress call was old hat, but now it was important that the young Saiyan find his master. And he had kindled a fire in a small cave nearby to keep himself alive. He wasn't gonna give up his search for Ury. He needed to find the man soon. {528} |

Silent Namekian
|
Tommeh watched as Strega moved up to the changling by himself. The silent Namekian heard him say something to the evil beast, something about ending the pain he has caused to the people around them. The green warrior admired that his friend was willing to put him down. He admired his tenacity and willingness to rid him. He first witnessed him slam the changling into the ground so hard that a huge crater was created around him. The only thing that bothered the Namekian was that he saw rage in the face of his friend. Something looked to have taken a hold of him, some sort of beast has taken a hold of him. It worried Tommeh. A paladin came up to the group and began to speak to them, he wanted their help again. Strega had been very polite to them and offered his help. Tommeh nodded in agreement.
The silent Namekian just needed to know where they needed to go. It should not be too hard for them to find him, they would just need to find a energy level from the guy. But of course, Tommeh was ready for the worst, no task was ever too easy for him. Even opening a damn jar had caused a problem for him. "Do you know where he might be?" Strega must have read his mind somehow. There was some sort of connection between them that made them a unique team. Tommeh hoped that their friendship would hold no bounds. It was time the silent Namekian began to be around more people. Maybe he could work on his talking skills while he was at it. "I believe that he wandered off into the caves underneath the plains yonder. He was one of they few left that actually knew where that was. Please make sure that he comes home safe." The group bowed and were off. The cave may cause some problems, hopefully it will not interfere with picking up his energy level. Hopefully he was alright. [413] |

The young Saiyan had begun to realize that his scouter was somewhat like a double-edged sword. While it helped him identify power levels, relying on it made it harder for him to use his sense to detect Ki, because the scouter never could pinpoint his foe's location perfectly. He grabbed the scouter and turned it off, stashing it in his pocket. He then walked out of the cave and brought his fists up, summoning his Ki and and closing his eyes as he focused. He felt the thirteen power levels, except one was missing. Either he had read them wrong, or one of the men had died or left. He sensed the group of power levels collectively to his east, according to his scouter. If Raiosu's hunch about what happened was correct, he only hoped this meant that someone other than Master Ury had died. He then suppressed his true Ki down to about average power level for this planet, about 50, and flew off to the east. He had to move undetected or his Avalonian ally could be killed, especially if the brigands had scouters, because if they sensed another military-class power level, they would more than likely show Ury no mercy. The young Saiyan would not let Ury die without a fight, and as he flew, he kept on attempting to sense his targets, figuring out that he was getting closer little by little. He then pouted a bit as he worried about Master Ury's condition. The Saiyan had only just noticed the tingling cold of the planet Avalon's climate upon his face. Good thing he built such a good fire, or else he might have frozen to death in the night. Korhy... if you were here right now, you'd know exactly what to do. What would Korhy do if he were here right now? he thought. "Well, I'd find a wandering brigand, beat him up, then interrogate him as to where his hide-out is." Raiosu looked down, then held a finger to his forehead, tapping it slowly. "That's a very good idea," he thought. If my scouter isn't enough, I'll have to sense them. Raiosu then closed his eyes once more, trying to sense the Ki around him. He picked up a faint Ki signature to the north. He then jetted in that direction and descended to the ground, looking for the Ki signature. He turned his head, looking in all directions and trying to find the brigand. He then caught another Ki signature to his north, and took to the air, flying toward the source. He then came upon what looked like ants from his height. Lowering his body to the ground slowly, he looked at his prey. He was about to beat them both to a pulp, when he noticed that they were miners. They had the same, flowing white hair of an Avalanian and the dark skin, too. They even had hardhats on. He then approacheed the workers slowly. "Sirs, can you tell me if you know where any brigands are nearby? I'm on a search for Master Ury. I would appreciate your help." "You're looking for master Ury?" The bearded one asked. He looked down and then turned to his co-worker. "Lro, isn't mastr Ury usually at the dojo of Ganr?" "Yes, Gor-y. I can't imagine him going somewhere else at his age," Lro replied. "Well, we were going to go take down some bandits," Raiosu began "But he left on his own. now he's been missing for about 2 days." He said. "Ain't that the darnedest thing. Look, we're busy excavating ore here, but the brigand nearby live in some old abandoned cave to the east. Pretty inhospitable, just smell of mold. I'm sure Master Ury's fine, but if you see him, give him this," the man then handed Raio a long, blue-petaled flower that spread outwards from the middle of the head. "That flower is for him to put on his wife's grave. It's about 10 miles south of here. Be sure to keep it safe until you can give it to him. I'm sure if you put it there for him, he'd get really mad." The man then passed Raio a small, cylindrical container for the flower. "Thanks, I'll remember to show him this," Raio said. (716) |

Strega was glad to see that his friend had volunteered his help as well. He liked the Namekian and having him along could prove a great help. It was strange to think that they had built such a relationship and yet only just met in person for the first time. Perhaps there was something about the astral plane, it was the true version of themselves projected into another realm. Thinking that a long with the fact that he believed there was no better way to get to know someone than through combat. In combat there was no opportunity to hide behind a mask or to lie about who you were, instead one had to focus every ounce of their being into the battle. A battle is something that Strega hoped that he might avoid this time around. The changeling he had just killed still played on his mind. He could feel the life leave him as his hand gripped tighter and tighter and the mental screams he had let out when the energy evaporated him. "Impossible! No! No! This can't be!" he had screamed. Strega realized he had been zoned out for a bit now and he shook himself back to the real world. They had apparently left the paladin headquarters and were headed toward the cougan plain. He looked toward the Namekian beside him and offered a smile. "So, it seems you have been working on your communication skills. You've come a long way since your silent bouts with me in the astral realm." he said. They were headed out towards the plains and as they spoke Strega kept his senses alert. He reached out and scanned for the ki signature of the old paladin. They needed to find the cave that he was supposed to be around and the plains were vast. Strega used his powers of telepathy like a sort of sonar, sending out a burst and getting back a mental image of the terrain. He was looking for any anomalies in the ground, perhaps the entrance to this cave. It wasn't that long before he sensed the prescence of another, although the power level was not the type that seemed a threat. He could sense worry in his thoughts though and something about him seemed familiar. It was as if he had met this one before much like he had met Tommeh. Could fate have proved to link them with yet another warrior of the astral realm? ---------------- WC: 407 PWC: 1,027 TWC: 2,684/4,700 |

Raiosu took to the skies once again, flying high up into the sky, a few hundred feet beyond the mountain ranges. As he did, he sensed a powerful Ki, beyond even his own. The power level was strong enough that even his senses had no problem fixating on it, and the fact it was that high had him worried. He felt there was a chaotic element to this power, and he was not able to identify it fully, but If this power was an opponents', he would have to fight him sooner or later, and sooner might be better. He flew down towards the power level, and picked up a second one. He suppressed his power level to an incredibly low, almost unnoticeable level. There was a small mountain nearby, and the young Saiyan flew behind it, trying to hide himself from view. The target was approximate a quarter mile away, and he did not want to take chances like the possibility that the target would attack him on sight. As he pressed his back against the mountainside, the sharp rocks dug into hids back, causing mild discomfort. As he scratched his back, he climbed the mountain, avoiding Ki usage and trying to look over the very mountain peak, waiting in ambush and attempting to get a look at his foe first. As he lie there, his stomach growled. He hadn't eaten since he began this journey, and he craved steak; Hell, any meat would do. Namekian Tea didn't stop his hunger, but it rejuvenated him to where he could try and continue his training alone. He pondered what Ury would've done had this happened to him instead, but he realized that Ury might not stand a chance against people capable of capturing himself. There wasn't much he could do if there was a gang of people who were nigh invincible descending upon him, but that was neither here nor there. He finally lost his nerve, and thought a bit, wondering if these power levels belonged to a special task force. In that case, he'd be better off sharing the information he had with them and grouping with them. He decided he would approach them despite the risk. He flew up; going back towards the source of the Ki and thought briefly about Luther, causing his internal anger to rise and triggering the partial Super Saiyan state at the same time. He held his palms flat forward as he flew towards the power level, charging up energy in his palms and readying his Duo Chasing Bullet technique. Then, in a flash, he flickered into the air above the people he had sensed earlier. He said, with a Rising Power Level, hair pointed upwards while surrounded with a golden aura, "Who goes there?" in a booming voice. His palms were flat out, and he was readying his attack, and his eyes were entirely white. "Tell me who you are! If you're the enemy, there's NO way you're getting to Master Ury! (500) |

Silent Namekian
|
It was time to begin their search for the caves. The pair left quickly and began flying in the air. While Strega searched using his mind, Tommeh was listening for anything that may seem strange. The Namekian had to ability to sense power levels, but to some extent. He did not possess the ability to seek out people of a very low ki energy, like a typical Earthling. Tommeh knew where cities were as a whole though. The green fighter would expect a high power level to come from the paladin, but the current situation may have changed that. He may be gravely wounded or even killed. Either way, they were going to find him. The duo stopped, both acknowledging the presence of the sharp spike in energy all the sudden, but then it disappeared. Tommeh thought that it may have been a last attempt for them to find him, the problem was that the power level was now gone and Tommeh did not know exactly where it was. If it was underground, then the cave must not be too far away from them. Again, there was a spike in energy, Tommeh was able to lock onto the signature this time. He nodded at Strega and they were on the move again. The silent Namekian could see a person flying up from behind the mountain, but then vanished. Tommeh then looked up to spot the person.
The voice almost echoed by itself out in the open, and with Tommeh's keen sense of hearing, he was able to spot an echo coming from another place coming from underground. The cave! The golden boy who was flying above them was ready to fight, his fists were charged with energy. But they had the same mission, save Ury. Tommeh of course had lockjaw and was unable to speak. This is where it benefited to have a friend with you that actually could talk with ease. The silent Namekian had no intention of fighting this person, they could take him on, but there was no point in doing so. If they wanted to fight, they could, but hopefully they won't. Tommeh grinned and circled his arm telling them to follow him. The cave was not far away at all. The green warrior flew in between two mountain ranges, and where they connected was a not very large cave entrance. He did not bother to look behind himself to see who came with, because if no one did, he was going solo. He closed his eyes, zoning out of the world so he could think hopefully not over think though. Was the boy to be trusted? He seemed to be more of a aggressive type, the opposite of himself. He was stronger than Tommeh, but not Strega. The Namekian did not have many friends or even acquaintances, he could not push them all away. The silent Namekian opened his eyes and turned around. He was not going to do this alone, he could need help, he just needed to realize that one day. No more being alone all the time. Tommeh slowly turned around to see who came with.... The Dragon of Valhalla

Strega was not surprised when the small inking of a life force he had felt with his mind suddenly turned into a much larger spike in energy than most would have believed at first. He had been a part of teh greater warrior community throughout the universe long enough to know that one should not judge a fighter by his initial power. The boy came flying out and charged directly for their position while flexing his perceived ki muscles. He couldn't help but smile just a little at the show of aggression. It was obvious this boy was a saiyan, and he was displaying the typical saiyan approach. Like a rattle snake shaking its tail at them he issued a warning but it was obvious he did not wish to fight. If he did decide to try something foolish than Strega would be forced to put on his own display of power but he was hoping to avoid all of that. He looked towards his companion before looking back at the saiyan and responding. "Calm yourself, we are not your enemies. We are friends of the Paladins and we have been asked to find the one known as Ury. If he is your master than surely you wish to find him as well. You are welcome to join us if you would like, but I warn you now if you choose not to trust us and attempt combat I will not be so welcoming." Before he finished he noticed that Tommeh had diverted his retention elsewhere which was unusual seeing as how they were facing a potential battle. Perhaps he knew like Strega that if it came to it they would not have to much to worry about between the two of them. The Namekian's eyes were on something off in the distance and he motioned for them to follow. Strega spared one last glance to Rai again before following after his friend. As he flew he reached out with his mental feelers and he noticed the anomaly in the ground where it opened like a gaping wound. When they reached the cave they stopped short, all no doubt wondering what it might hold. He looked around to see if the newcomer bass chosen to be peaceful and follow them. It was no matter though, they had more important matters at hand. The halfbreed gave the green one a hearty pat on the back. "Well my friend, it seems you've found our cave. Good work." He said with a smile. "Lets see if we can't find us a Paladin eh?" He allowed gravity to do its work, using his ki to slow the descent. If any aggressors decided to go after either of them he was prepared to launch into full scale war but if not he would allow the planet to swallow him and enter into the darkness that filled the natural cavern. He summoned an orb of ki forth and willed it to float above and a little ahead of him. He wanted to offer enough light for any of his allies to see clearly as well. The cave was sank smelled of iron. All about stalactites and stalagmites surged from the stone like a thousand teeth in the mouth of an angry beast. A dull drone of rushing water caught his ear and made him think of an underground spring. The good news was that it meant one could survive some time in here and increased their chances of finding the paladin alive. The issue was that the cold meant there was the possibility of hypothermia setting in. Hopefully even in old age and wounded Ury would have enough in him to build a fire. Strega focused his mind as they walked deeper into the cafe, ready for anything. Not too far in he started to smell smoke. He smiled and put on some speed, feeling the cave grow warmer the further he went in. It seemed that someone had enough sense and strength to burn wood and stave off the cold of the stone about them. He could only hope that it was the man they were searching for. He stepped around a bend and quickly foun himself face to face with the tip of a sword. Behind that sword stood a man in armor who was of advanced age but his face was stern and warned not to trifle with him. Strega put his arms up in a show of surrender, not wanting to test just how serious the warrior was. He knew he was in no real danger due to his foresight but he was unsure how the others would fare. Not to mention the fact that he could sense a hint of desperation on the mans mind. He was injured and running on the last of his reserves. The half saiyan knew better than to push a wounded and cornered animal so it served to assume a seasoned fighter would be even worse. "Halt! State your business stranger!" The man commanded. "Peace, we mean you no harm are you the one known as Ury?" Strega asked. "Yes I'm...Raiosu? There you are good." It seemed that a familiar face had calmed the paladin as he dropped his sword from the face of the demonic one. "My apologies, it seems my time here and my injuries have made me a bit edgy. I had tracked the bandits down to a camp nearby and when I engaged them the ground gave way and I found myself here. I broke my ankle but still managed to finish off those I had been fighting. I couldn't do much more than bide my time here and hope that Raiosu would eventually find me. I see now that my plan paid off and then some. Thank you for finding me. Now if you don't mind I think I would like to return to the city for some treatment and so I can give that whelp of a captain a piece of my mind." Strega smiled at the man an nodded in agreement. "Very well Ury, lets get you back to town. Give me a hand here guys." He said as he gestured for the others to help carry the veteran so his leg wouldn't be harmed. "Alright, lets get the master back home." And with that they flew up and out and back to the town. ------------ WC: 1066 PWC: 2093 TWC: 4794/4700 QUEST COMPLETE! |
