Zuccil entered the Temple the next day, eager to begin his first day of training. As he approached the altar, there was Ja’vei and the other four monks, lined up as usual. Zuccil smiled at them as he stepped up to the altar, bowing respectfully. They returned his bow before anyone spoke.

“Zuccil, I trust you are well rested after yesterdays trials?” asked Ja’vei. “Well, I suppose we will find out soon enough, won’t we? The first leg of your training will be under the tutilage of Master Ja’rel. She will teach you how to project your mental powers outside of the astral realm of your own mind. How to see, without being seen, if you take my meaning.”

As Ja’vei spoke, he gestured to the first monk on Zuccil’s left, a female with dark blue eyes. She was elderly now, but Zuccil could see how she might have been beautiful, by Kanassan standards at least, in her youth. She stood as Ja’vei pointed her out and approached Zuccil with her arms hidden in the sleeves of her robe, like any stereotypical monk. Zuccil could see from an up close veiw why she had chosen the solitary existance of a monk. If his deductions were correct, she had not had the most glamorous of lives, even by Sayian standards.

“Are you ready to begin your training, Zuccil?” asked Ja’rel.

“I am, Sister.” said Zuccil. They bowed each other out and Ja’rel lead him out of the Temple. They sat together in the sunlight and began to meditate.

“Focus on the sounds and smells around you, let them fill your mind, and try to see those things that you hear and smell. See without opening your eyes.” said Ja’rel. Zuccil attempted to do as he was told, but his mind seemed to rebel against the push to see without sight. “Imagine that you are simply standing up and leaving the weight of your body behind. Concentrate, and step away from your shackles.”

It occurred to Zuccil as he concentrated on this fact that this must have been how that Kanassan attacked him and Bardock back on Vegeta, and again with Zarbon after their respective battles. He tried to simply imagine standing up and walking toward the tree that was directly ahead of him. He could hear the forest creatures scurrying within, but try as he might to see them without opening his eyes, he saw only darkness. Then it occurred to him, he had to exit the astral plane, but do so he must first need to enter it.

He concentrated loosing himself in the telepathic astral realm that had become something of a home to him. Surely it didn’t have to be this black void, did it? Perhaps that was what he was truly trying to accomplish, to see through this darkness to the physical realm beyond. Suddenly he heard clapping behind him, and a strangely attractive young Kanassan woman was standing behind him, wearing Ja’rel’s robes. This was how she chose to be seen in this realm, interesting.

“You understand a great deal more than I had anticipated,” she said applaudingly, “although, perhaps I should not have been so quick to underestimate you after the display you showed yesterday at your trials.”

“I’m still not a hundred percent sure, Sister,” said Zuccil in a confused tone, “I understand what I need to do, but I haven’t the foggiest clue how to do it.”

“That’s what I’m here for,” said Ja’rel with a cordial smile on her face, “the best way that I might explain this to you, well, surely you see that all around us is black, darkness, blindness.”

“Of course.” said Zuccil.

“What you see are the walls of your own mind, in a manner of speaking.” said Ja’rel. “They are the walls you have created as a basic place of training and telepathic combat. Now, as a Sayian, what do your kind, stereotypically of course, enjoy doing?”

“Combat, destroy stuff, combat, eating, combat, eating, destroy stuff, combat.” said Zuccil, listing each item on his fingers.

“Exactly, in this case, you want to destroy these walls, you want to tear them down,” said Ja’rel, “Or, at the very least, punch a doorway out of this particular ‘mental room’.”

“Now that does make my life easier.” said Zuccil, smiling darkly.

“Now try to keep in mind, your power level has no bearing on actual force here.” said Ja’rel. “Outside of your combat situations, you have no limitations in this realm, except those you create for yourself.”

“So conceivably, I can do this and not feel it.” said Zuccil as he took his finisher stance. A blood red ball of ki began to charge in his hand, growing much faster then he ever could have made it do in the physical realm. Lightening began flashing out of it as it grew to excessive proporsions. Zuccil saw the wall in front of him, he saw as a wall that could, in fact, be destroyed. And with a roar like a lion, he released the massive red ki wave, “GALICK GUN!!!”

The blast shattered the wall into a bright flash of white. The next thing Zuccil saw clearly was Ja’rel standing next to him, as he stood next to his own seated body. He looked his hands, his feet, his clothing. Everything was there, just as it was on his physical form. But he felt completely weightless, despite still being tethered to the ground by some gravitational force. It was the most amazing feeling on the planet.

“Wow! This is incredible, I can’t believe I’m actually doing this!” Zuccil hollered excitedly.

“The training is not complete yet, Zuccil.” said Ja’rel. “You’re next task will be to journey away from your body, which will leave it quite vulnerable. In this case, I would like to project yourself through the forest and back to your ship, relaying a simple message to your sister, Ruta.”

“What should I say to her? Hey, sis, sorry to interupt, just thought I’d invade you mind for a second?” asked Zuccil, sounding rather skeptical.

“Say anything, that part does not matter. It might just be useful to explain the situation to her.” said Ja’rel, unimpressed by Zuccil’s sudden attitude.

“Alright, is there anything I should know about such travels, besides that my body is obviously left at the mercy of whoever is nearby?” asked Zuccil cautiously.

“Yes, the farther you are from your body, more concentration this task requires,” said Ja’rel, “Keep you messages short for the time being, as the longer you stay away, the longer you risk losing your way back or, as is likely the case with the foe you and your companions seek, you risk being attacked both mentally and physically.”

“Noted, so keep it short and sweet, or risk brain damage.” said Zuccil. Then he began to walk slowly away from his body. It occurred to him as he approached the tree line, he didn’t have any of the movement limitations in this form. If he wanted to, he could flit himself instantly to Bega like this, deliver the message, and be back in the next instant.

No sooner had he thought it, then the trees rushed by so quickly he barely had time to see that they were trees at all. But sure enough, there he stood in front of the Bega once again. He was glad he already knew the way back to the Temple on his own, or this could potentially get hairy. He flitted inside and up to the bridge were Ruta was usually running some kind of diagnostic or in some way helping Bulma with the repairs to the engines.

“Now comes the tricky part, Zuccil.” said Ja’rel, who was again standing next to him. “You must find a way for her to hear you, and screaming in her ear won’t do the trick. She might hear a whisper if she hears anything at all.”

“Well naturally I would need to project myself into her mind, would I not?” asked Zuccil.

“Absolutely, you know, you’re not nearly as slow-witted as the average Sayian are you?” aske Ja’rel.

“Well, my father always did say I was smarter the average bear.” said Zuccil with a confident sneer as he went to dive into his sister’s mind. Then he saw him, it was the bleeding sneak himself if it was King Vegeta! Sprout was skulking his way toward the Forest, Zuccil recognized his snow white hair. He dove in quickly and wasted no time with pleasantries. “Ruta! Ruta it’s Zuccil! If you can here me, this is important!!”

“HOLY - ! Zuccil, how are you - !?!” Ruta yelped.
“Never mind that now! I just saw Sprout slinking out of the main cargo hold! He made off into the Forest of Illusions! Get outside and let someone know now before he gets away!!” Zuccil commanded.

“How did you know he was - ?!” Ruta began to ask as she turned and saw him too.

“STOP ASKING QUESTIONS AND JUST RAISE THE ALARM ALREADY!!!” Zuccil roared. “I DON’T HAVE A LOT OF TIME TO WASTE, THIS CONNECTION TAKES A LOT OF CONCENTRATION TO MAINTAIN!!”

“Got it! On my way, Z!” Ruta yelped as she jumped up and rushed out of the ship. Before she left the bridge, Ja’rel pulled Zuccil out of her mind and back to the Temple. Zuccil was actually a little shocked by the transition. He stood there blinking for a moment, looking around to get his bearings back.

“You’ve done well, Zuccil.” said Ja’rel with a proud smile on her face. “I must ask, however, why you were so alarmed by the man’s presence.”

“That was 1st Class Sprout, a traitor to the Sayian Empire, and more importantly the guy who gave me the scar over my left eye. Naturally I’d like to return the favor, but the biggest problem is that he’s helping the Kanassan responsible for this whole scenario.” said Zuccil. “It’s not just a personal vendetta, but the well-being of the rest of my team.”

“I understand, then that was a rather admirable way to go about demonstrating your first attempt at astral projection, which I must say you passed with flying colors.” said Ja’rel, still smiling proudly. “Be careful with these kinds of powers, however, Zuccil. It doesn’t do you any good to go snooping around other peoples minds for no reason. And, naturally, it’s just plain rude.”

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” said Zuccil, “quite frankly I don’t want to know what most people are thinking. I can’t help but notice that, say for a select few, most throughout this galaxy tend to waste their mental talents on less then necessary thought processes.”

“Not sure I take your meaning.” said Ja’rel curiously.

“Take Sprout, for example. He’s driven by a desire for revenge against me, because I was chosen over him to become King Vegeta’s student. He saw it as my usurping of his shot at the throne.” said Zuccil. “Now he seeks to take King Vegeta’s throne by force, and to see me destroyed when he does.”

“Surely you don’t intend to let him best you so easily? I’m sure King Vegeta does not.” said Ja’rel.

“Of course not! Hell when I get finished with Sprout, he’s gonna need a bodybag!” said Zuccil with an over-confident sneer.
