A storm had started to brew around the cities of Avalon. A manhunt that was fueled by rage and revenge in mind from the Paladins. Murderer. Savage. Not like the rest. There was no end to the torments that would come to this man that had dared to kill two Paladins. In one killing, he had succeeded. And that killing had released…it[/]. Now the Paladins scrambled to find the mad deity that had been released. And the one that would pay for his transgressions was known in three forms; a dark skin, nearly black, but nearer to gray in the light. A hulking black wolf form with three tails and bloody jowls. And an elfin form that looked oh so close to an Avalanian that neighbors had started to be cautious of another; though they should know the difference as raven, silky hair instead of their own silvery snow colored hair.

Rei was now fully aware of what he had done to these people. He pulled his hood up over his head a little lower to hide his features as rain poured all around him. He wore poor folk garb, which was more leather and cords and cloth with a long cloak over it, and trudged through the lowest of the city’s population. He was not approached due to the duel scimitar like swords that were hanging on his dark colored belt. They were re-forged not long ago, maybe two or three days. The weapons did not feel new to him, however. In their new style, they felt like his old swords had.

The drow paused as he checked behind himself without looking around: like a cornered animal, all of his senses worked around the clock while he was not in his ship. He took the risk this day because he felt that he needed to be in this rain. Too see what these poor folk felt. He, and many of the Tiste Andii, were spared the bad days such as this. The Sky Keep was kept away from storms by Rake’s immense power to move the large city around. But for some reason, he seemed to like the rain. Perhaps it was more of the feeling. It washed away his sins from his mind; for no man was without ssin. To claim so would be most foolish.

And that was precisely why Rei decided to leave Central City and travel for East City, where he had first been made a Paladin. Back when the Tiste Andii and the Paladins had been friendlier with each other. But it was obvious that was not the case anymore. Rei’s cloth and leather boots trudged through mud as he finally arrived to an open area. He used his web of sensory again before he jumped into the air and his body flew off. Perhaps the news had not fully reached all those within each city. Well, that was more wishful thinking than anything.

Rei landed while still in darkness and quietly walked into East City. He sought out one place in particular, the dojo of his old master. He knew that a new master was in charge of it, and was likely more of a priest than a Paladin, but he had to take the chance. If his master were not to listen to anything that he said and merely went with what was rumored, than all hope was lost. He released an exhausted sigh as he walked into a tavern that still had plenty of customers. He placed money on the table, with a light brown color glove, and spoke in a growling tone, “Give me your beset ale.” It would sound old, but the bar keeper understood and with a wild grin, he poured Rei a glass.

The man then seemed to take an interest in Rei as he spoke quietly, under hushed tones, “Tiste Andii, I see. I’m one o’ the Blue Rose. I should show y’ t’ the Cap. Cap Eldera. He’ll give ya a good trainin’.” He pointed to the twin weapons that now more obviously pointed out as Rei sat. The bar keep was one that was of blue hued skin, and stood with a broad chest and arms of decent length. His hair was in a tall ponytail, and silver in color. It was rare that he had to move very far, and when he did, it was on hooved feet. The ‘Blue Rose’ he referred to were a faction of thinner blood Tiste Andii, whose Tiste Andii parent had mixed with other world lovers over generations.

Rei looked at the Blue Rose a bit closer before he realized that he knew this man. It was an old friend that he used to come and see, but the century and a half that he had been asleep had not been kind to this man. He had healed cuts and scrapes on his arms and likely on his chest, which was covered by a slightly stained shirt. And his face…well, he would have to not think where the man’s ‘beard’ went to. Likely cut off over the century and a half. While Rei wanted to comfort the man and tell him that it would be great to see Captain Eldera, he also knew that man. It was not the one that he wanted to run into; he was very much a part of Avalon and not as loyal to the Lord of Moon’s Spawn. He bit his lip for a few moment before he took a swig of the ale before he replied, “I think I will pass this night, good bar keeper. I am not a Tiste Andii anymore, you see. I’m now a drow.”

The term ‘drow’ within the Tiste Andii told one that they were cast away from Moon’s Spawn, and even the Blue Rose usually looked upon them with distain and no trust. But this man only seemed to take further interest, “Well, then, if’n y’ be a drow, Cap. Eldera would be even mor’ ‘appy t’ see ya.” And before Rei could stop the man, he bellowed into the bar, “Cap. Eldera, I got one fer ya!”

And before Rei could even turn to see the man, the Captain was to his right. Rei instinctively went for the sword on his right and slashed the weapon defensively. The steel of this new age met steel of the new age as Rei’s scimitar met a long sword that was clearly in a death blow arc. Rei narrowed his eyes as they grew blood red under the cloak in anger and pushed back. People in the bar ran out as the drow kicked the Captain away from him and jumped from the stool as he withdrew the second weapon. They felt like old friends in his hand. The leather grip of the first blade in his right hand and the counter of its weight, a lighter sword in his left hand that had a wooden handle, though it was crafted smooth to make the blow cleaner. The Captain recovered quickly as he smirked, “Aye, it seems that this one does have some skill. Before he drew his blade, he didn’t even flinch.”

The Captain’s long sword pointed at Rei as he said, “And one more thing. I already know who you are, Spiridon and now Drow, Rei Darkshaow.” At that, Rei threw off his hood as the bar keep didn’t look surprised at all. The Captain was another Blue Rose, and a large one. He had one other weapon that was slung over his back, and that was only held in reserve for if he was really trying to kill someone. Rei had only seen it once: in a blur of motion, the hammer had smashed the traitorous Paladin and spilled blood everywhere, the entire head smashed into pieces of bone, flesh, muscle, and grey matter. The rest of the body had twitched for a short time before going limp. But it was the speed and then power of the blow that then, and even now, made Rei amazed of this Blue Rose.

The Captain smirked before he leaned back and spoke calmly, “Now, then, Spiridon, it seems you have gotten yourself in trouble. But the Blue Rose will not betray you to Avalon and their high courts. You did not kill their Paladin; any Tiste Andii, no matter how thin blooded, would know that.” He stepped up to the bar, where a tankard of ale met a second. With a sweeping motion of his arm, the Master Paladin smirked, “Sit, Spiridon, we have no quarrel with you. Enjoy a tankard. We have training to discuss. It must be quick, and fast. I know that you are already a master swordsman, but there are motions that we did not finish before your capture.” And before Rei could ask how he knew, Captain Eldera spoke with a chuckle, “You wouldn’t have missed practice unless something happened to you, and the Avalon Government said that they had given you no special orders to leave me and my tutelage at that time.”

Rei shook his head before he stepped forward and took the tankard and his glass. The two Paladin drank to Rei’s survival before the two of them noted the return of the citizens. Rei’s hood swiftly returned as he looked down at the bar table and another tankard was placed in front of the empty one, “Have yer last tankard, Rei. Fo’ Eldera won’ let ya have one while trainin’.” It was true, Rei had not had a tankard in two centuries. Half a century of swordsmanship, and no drinking. It seemed that Eldera had not change a bit. The Blue Rose warrior chuckled a bit as the bar tender laughed in return, “Aye, though ya drive away m’ potential Paladin customers.”

The time that Rei had spent in the bar was a reminder of the simplier times, the older times. But it was times that were passed. The Blue Rose were still his allies, but everyone else here was his enemy. The two Paladins left with the same outer clothing, cloaks. One was a giant cloak that held shadows easily, while Rei’s still showed his chest as the two walked through the rain. The dojo was now out of Rei’s mind; he realized that he would have to stay with Eldera, or risk that he would be caught. And there was something else that he noticed; the city held a decent amount of Blue Rose. It was just what he could have hoped for, in that he had allies that would stay on his side. But even as he had that thought, the Captain spoke up, “Do not believe that all Blue Rose will be loyal to each other. Just like the poor areas of Central City, there will be Blue Rose that will tip off or turn you in, just for money. You must be more cautious.”

- - -

While Rei had left behind Central City, there was one person that had followed him that now stood near a central dojo building. He paused as the guard turned to him as though to ask what he wanted. Ho rose his hand to the guard’s face and vaporized him without a second thought. The blast tore through part of the city as well, and caused millions in damage and killed several hundred citizens and a few Paladins. He walked to the dojo and punched the door down as the screams and cries of those in Central City rang out. Paladin trainees had rushed to the door, only to meet the stranger. He was cloaked, and attack them before any of them spoke. His fists and legs worked as blasts flowed from his hands. In a matter of moments, the trainees were dead, a few vaporized. This force would not be stopped by anything weak like these people.

He strode further into the complex as Paladins rushed towards him, only to meet a similar fate to those that had met him outside. The mysterious figure walked on, and stopped at the central chamber. There was something here that he knew he could defeat, but there was something extra there now. He pushed the doors open and saw that his first target was meditating within emerald fire. But besides him were two Paladins. The assailant braced himself as a wave of ki blasted at him and only sent him back a few inches. The sword wielding Paladin placed his shield forward and stood between the attacker and the one wreathed in the jade fires. Not a word was said for a time before the shield Paladin moved his foot. The attacker’s hand rushed up and the attack that had killed so many slammed into the shield. He watched as the shield ate his ki and dispersed any left over with the yawn of metal against raging wind.

“Okay…” The word sounded as though five had spoken the word, four echoed voices and one beneath the others. The sword weilder charged at the ki user and was stopped as the shield was punched with equal force before he pushed the Paladin to the ground, but held up the shield. The other Paladin had a bow in hand, and was likely to use a reflex move. And he was right, the arrow slammed against the shield. He threw the shield down and jumped as the elfin warrior pointed another arrow, only to have the bow knocked aside. His hand slammed onto the ground as he sent his leg up towards the elfin’s neck to break it. One arm, however, stopped the kick. He then felt steel slice through his skin as a dagger stabbed into the leg and then stabbed once more at the joint in the middle of the leg.

“Fu-“ The sword user slammed his shoulder against the attacker’s side and flung him into the wall, where he slammed against before he fell down. Synthetic wood remained intact as the warrior tried to push himself up. He paused as he looked down at the leg and saw that blood flowed freely. He would pass out at any other physical stresses. But there as little choice in this matter. Wind exhaled from his mouth before the warrior charged forth with determination; the determination that came from blind devotion. The bow wielder had retrieved the weapon and fired several energy arrows at the man, who dodged them as he picked up speed. The flat of a sword slammed into him moments before he could colid with the elfin warrior as the human had knocked the body unconscious.

A low sigh sounded from the Paladin as he turned to his friend, “It seems that these guys have been coming out of the wood works more and more often. What do you suggest that we do? It’s not like we can keep away a swarm of these guys. And Avalon keeps sending us reinforcements that are constantly destroyed.” Ensis was not all that comfortable as the elfin company was. He nearly shivered at the thought of a swarm. That would just make his day, a swarm of crazy, devoted fanatics. He saw that the bow wielded had looked back at the Monk that they were defending. The man’s mediation was uninterrupted. It was slightly unsettling that the Monks held such…he supposed he could call it mental focus.

“I think that we should send him to Captain Elderlas. And he will likely pass on this one to Captain Eldera. Eldera seems to be taking more and more Blue Rose into the Paladin fold. Although Avalon barely permits it. Still, the Blue Rose support Avalon, so I’ve no complaints.” The Tiste Liaosan had long since abandoned his own people, as the Dojo had shown that he had a greater destiny than to destroy the universe to remake it bathed in Light, as his fellow people wanted to.

With a low sigh and a slightly annoyed look, the two Tiste Andii entered the dojo that was now in use. Those within knew their teacher right away, but seemed puzzled to see a new arrival without a runner being sent to them first. Eldera narrowed his eyes at those that had stared as he snapped, “Back to your duties, all of you! I want that floor clean enough to cast the bones on.” The bones were an older Blue Rose tradition, something that Rei had yet to be included in. He would never push to be in anything that the Blue Rose wanted to keep him from, it was pointless to try and get in. He had already been pre-warned about that when he was in good terms with the Tiste Andii. Rei watched as the man gave several new orders and had the students Work a little more.

The two Tiste Andii walked into a private study that had been set aside for the Captain a little before Rei was sealed away. Then, it had been barely filled with anything but new papers. Now, the study was filled with many more objects. A runner was stationed in the room, though he was not a Blue Rose. It was a pure blood from the Avalon government. Eldera stepped forward and narrowed his eyes, “What does Captain Elderlas say?” He had never cared if students could hear the messages, even they were supposed to be private. The messenger seemed familiar enough with this.

A nod came from the man before he stood and spoke carefully, “We are here, that is, I have already sent for, my companion. General Elderlas wants to have a trial for one of your ready Blue Rose. They will be tested in their faith to Ganr and their commitment to the Paladin cause: to annihilate evil. But of course, they all know this.” There was a snide side to this messenger. Rei was surprised that this one was still alive. In the past, messengers had dropped like flies for this kind of behavior. It seemed that part of Eldera’s temper had faded. Or that he had learned a few things. Still, this Captain Elderlas was someone that the Tiste Andii would have to watch out for.

Eldera nodded before he snapped, “I will have this student here take the trial, as soon as the subject gets here.” It was exsplained that the captured subject was extremely dangerous. It was also a Blue Rose, part of the reason that Eldera knew that it was brought here. Why else would they have done it now, when he was not done training any other Blue Rose? It was not convenience that brought him Rei, nor luck. All the same, he thanked the deities for the sent drow. He would have to be careful, however. Rei wished to remain unknown, and this could reveal him. It seemed, however, that Rei understood. And it was true that Rei was one of students, at one time.

Rei indeed understood what the Blue Rose master was going through. But he also knew that there was a risk. Rei was a known ‘criminal’ for crimes that he did not commit. But it was rare that anyone would listen. It also did not help that he had no evidence. If he was able to get onto Moon’s Spawn and get the Witch, then he might be able to prove his story. However, she had no ki signature now, and any attempt to get into the Sky Keep would result in the Lord coming to kill him for trespassing. Rei looked at the messenger from under the cloak with his golden eyes as the messenger shifted before he said, “Agreed.”

Eldera nodded and then waved the man away, who left quickly. Rei stayed in the office and closed the door when the messenger was gone. His hood remained up as he stayed within the cloak and its shadows. They stayed silent and away from each other for the time being. The drow walked over to the large stacked shelf behind the Captain and placed his gloved hand against the bindings of several books. They were in the Tiste Andii language, and thus no Avalon native could read it. He smiled lightly, it was almost like a private joke. Anyone besides a full blood Tiste Andii or a Blue Rose could not hope to read nor understand the texts.

After some painfully quiet minutes, Eldera and Rei both sensed the arrival of the execution target. Rei nodded towards the man and they both exited the room. Rei remained in his cloak, while the Captain had removed his now. Rei was silent as he looked at the target, gagged and tied in a straight jacket, writhing and struggling in the binds. He shook his head as the man wheeled him closer to the drow, whom he thought was the strangest Blue Rose Tiste Andii he’d ever seen. Rei spoke in the ancient Tiste Andii language, “Mirran deka chekalta metusa, kou?” The being paused as Rei used a quick slash of a scimitar to remove the gag.

The man replied with a throaty reply, “Chekalta? Hah, mt’jaty iltsn o’fun drow dek Spiridon.” The Blue Rose in the room grew quiet as the blood within Rei’s body grew cold. He stepped forward and thrust his left palm to the man’s forehead as steam suddenly came forward before he removed the palm and revealed a misshapen M that demons placed on their slaves. Rei narrowed his eyes as the man started to laugh before Rei thrust his right hand at the M, which caused the being to start to scream in complete silence.

Rei was now preforming one of three duties of what a Spiridon did; exorcism of the deity that they should have kept within them. Crimson steam seemed to come from beneath the palm of the drow as the man’s scream widened as the body started to shake. One of the handlers attempted to rush forward to stop it, but the Captain stood in his way, eyes narrowed, “Do not interrupt this, or you will set horror upon this dojo.” And they were forced to watch as Rei suddenly extracted a small version of the deity, hand sized. It started to croak out a curse before Rei crushed it and the man in restraints went limp.

“Gentleman, I suggest you untie this poor man.”
