Thankfully there was an open field just a short distance away. The two of them made use while a curious crowd gathered at an acceptable distance away. Hercule's daughter was going to fight someone, and they wanted to see that. The warriors took respective fighting stances and Android Seventeen activated battle-ready redundancies designed to increase his already superior fortitude, to make it easier for him to take hits. Considering this battle was more of a friendly bout it, he wouldn't be activating his power reserves but it was good to know that in case this human pulled out a nice trick, he could care for himself. "Let's start things off light, shall we?" He rushed at her in a blaze of speed, kicking up dust and moving into melee range before the average person could blink their eyes. Once he was upon her he let loose a series of strikes aimed at her midsection and upper chest. He was going very easy on her, of course, but he still weighed excess of five hundred pounds despite his compact size, and throwing his weight around had a few heavy consequences. Still, two tiger-claw strikes to her stomach and a pair of open palms just below her clavicle (in order to assure he didn't break anything). As he finished the series of techniques, he jumped away and rose into the air, "As I'm sure you know, ki can take many forms." He held open his palm and formed a sphere of white-hot ki in it. He stared down at her for a moment, registering also the curious onlookers who didn't quite understand why the teenage boy was floating above Hercule's daughter. Maybe some kind of street show? "The energy that I produce can do the same. Any shape that ki can take, so can the energy that I manufacture." More for pomp and circumstance than an intention of actual damage, Seventeen threw the burst of ki down towards her. His internal generators were set to near about four percent of his maximum base battle power, but he was sure that it would be enough for the initial demonstration. As the fight raged on, he'd continue a bit more to see what she could handle, without risking harming her person. With his energy burst expended, he lowered back onto the ground, his momentary floatation costing him nothing. ------ 1.Equip Saiyan Armor etc. 2. Equip Hardened Cap Shield. 3. Videl readily agreed to the fight. Although the teenage boy’s revelation of being an artificial human was somewhat startling, she found herself accepting it without prejudice almost immediately after her initial reaction. Those strange things amiss with him fell perfectly into place with the entire picture revealed, including his overly intellectual method of speaking. He didn’t seem especially at ease with sharing this fact of origin, so she made extra certain to be mindful of that and keep things as comfortable as possible. The city tapered off into a large park just off-center of the heart of downtown, somewhat in the direction of the beach where she had intended to go in the first place. There was a wide open field amidst the lush green trees that rustled in the light breeze. A few onlookers who had recognized her gathered at the edge of their imaginary circle, anxious to see if she was as good as she looked on television. They were so used to seeing her win, they murmured to themselves about how this hapless boy, a fan of Hercule’s no doubt, had wanted to test his mettle against the equally impressive offspring of their beloved world champion. Videl didn’t buy into her own hype, but she knew that she was above average, at least, and that gave her confidence against any opponent. After all, one was only as good as their current match. She kicked off her flip-flops, jumping up and down a bit in her bare feet to get the blood pumping and did a few dynamic stretches, something her new acquaintance would not have to bother with as long as he kept up on his maintenance. Videl found herself somewhat anxious, as this was the first fight she’d ever been in where she was going in blind. Normally she had some range of measurement of her own skill against a fellow fighter, but this time, she was left entirely in the dark. What was one of her greatest advantages now became a painfully obvious weakness with how much she relied on it. But then, that was an oft-trite piece of wisdom, wasn’t it? How you didn’t fully appreciate something until it wasn’t there anymore? Seventeen made a comment about keeping things light at first, which she wasn’t sure if she should take as a gesture of goodwill, or as a patronization of her skill. Many a man had made that mistake before and had ended up on the ground crying in pain. Videl swiftly rescinded any brief feelings of offense when the android rushed her with such speed that even she had trouble keeping up with the movements. Before she knew it, two impossibly firm hands connected with her stomach and then the upper portion of her chest, slightly shy of her collarbone. She gasped in pain. It felt like she had been hit with a sequence of pistons rather than palms. Videl stumbled back, hearing the crowd gasp in surprise as they were unused to her taking such unchallenged damage. The young woman kept her focus, watching as the teenage boy leaped backwards and floated upwards. Flight was not something currently in her capabilities, which further put her at a disadvantage. He spoke again, calmly, as if his actions were no effort at all. The android formed an orb of ki in his hand, also an ability she could not replicate. Seventeen explained the basic mechanics of this function, and without hesitation, fired directly at her. Videl set her jaw firmly. His speed was clearly a notch above hers (somewhat discouraging, since her agility was her primary focus), but the brief instruction along with the clear presentation of his attack prior to using it gave her more than enough warning about how to anticipate and avoid its deleterious consequences. She neatly sidestepped the blast, and it ripped a hole into the ground where she had just stood, as if a firework had gone off. The crowd gasped once more, their incredulity apparent, as equally as the evidence that they believed it was a theatric special effect. Videl redirected her momentum to launch herself at her opponent as he settled back onto the grassy field. She only had one special attack in her arsenal, and it was too early in the fight to reveal that single trump card. Instead, she opted to try and get in a few hits with her speed. “HA!” she cried out sharply. Her right fist led the charge with a jab at his face, and her left fist – her dominant hand – came up from under to knock him on the chin. If there was one thing her professional career had taught her, it was that a head shot was surely the swiftest way to unseat an opponent. Her combo ended there, and she jumped back immediately after, hanging just outside his reach to avoid a potential retaliatory blow. ---------------

Excellent! The human had mastery enough of her abilities to avoid his attack, granted it was a particularly obvious one. Still, the Android was compelled to step up the match. To treat this opponent like a much lesser warrior would be an insult to her. He therefore allowed himself to react instinctively, or rather on more or less instinctive protocols, when she attacked him. He took a half-step backwards and moved his hand at surprising speeds to place it over hers. He didn't actually touch her hand, but a cool blast of energy covered her fist and effectively neutralized her attack, "Anything that ki can do." He repeated. Then added, "And there are things ki can do that you won't find in any book. Tell me, have you been training with any of this planet's masters? There are quite a few ki users spread about the galaxy that'll teach you things you couldn't fathom otherwise." As he spoke he cracked the ice if it'd succeeded in latching on to her, so that she wouldn't have to, "The ability to pull energy from the universe itself, or the power to move with such rapidity that it seems as though you have grown extra arms." Once the deed was done, he flexed his shoulder muscles and, though he couldn't grow new limbs (being a synthetic being) he managed to conjure holographic extra arms that fit the image of copies of his physical arms. However, the speed boost that came with synthesizing the technique made it so that it seemed as if they were tangible limbs. He came at her with the force of a hurricane, merging various martial arts into strikes that numbered nearly into the double digits. Unlike before, he didn't aim for a single place twice, instead aiming towards various weak points but making sure that each strike was merely a light graze, a touch. Even accounting for her movements his programmed precision made his blows do minimal damage if they connected. Granted, she was showing tremendous speed and power of her own, so there was a chance she'd be blocking and evading his attacks, but even if the attacks connected, she wouldn't be permanently harmed. Once the actions had completed he jumped backwards in a fighting stance, watching for her reaction. "You should show me the ki techniques that you know. I'm interested in how much you've learned." ------ 1. Ice Blast vs A3 (-5%) 2. Possibly break Videl out of ice (so Videl doesn't have to, depending on her RP) 3. “Surprise” didn’t quite cover Videl’s reaction as she moved in for the punch. Seventeen’s hand came up, sure enough, to block her attack. That in itself was easy enough to comprehend, though his lightning speed elicited something of a frustrated reaction. What prompted the surprise was that her fist never actually touched his palm; as soon as it neared, she felt a blast of cold wash over her bare skin and freeze her arm in its tracks, and that was what piqued her incredulity. No one had ever stopped her dead like that before. She let out a slight gasp of shock, both at the method of neutralization and at the sudden drop in temperature. As he explained the nature of his attack, as well as encouraged her to seek tutelage from others to expand her knowledge, he splintered the ice encasing her limb as if it were nothing at all. Once freed, she jumped back, creating space between them just in time for him to foreshadow his next assault. Videl rotated her wrist and flexed her fingers, ensuring full functionality of the appendage. Her eyebrows popped up as two extra arms materialized on her opponent’s body, images of light and color that suddenly sharpened and shaped into the illusion of solid mass. When the android came at her, he did so with oppressive force and agility. Hand-to-hand combat, with no sort of energy or trickery, was something the woman had extensive experience dealing with. She’d faced multiple foes at once, even, but none of them had quite the level of skill as her current opponent demonstrated. When the first strikes came, Videl moved to slip the blows. Seventeen had lost some of his generosity and instead chose to target critical points. He aimed for joints, ribs, anywhere that he could find exposed that would cause damage. She twisted her body, focused on her footwork, and evaded the first three shots, but only just. As the android’s arms continued to rain down, his speed and intensity picked up, and the woman was forced to block instead of dodge, no longer quick enough to avoid contact. Videl kept her hands flat to deflect at his wrist, putting her forearms in the path of those that she could not redirect. By the last three, she was too far behind his movements both in quickness and in mental reaction, and caught them all dead on. The attacks sent waves of pain throughout her body, and Seventeen shut off the flow and leaped back to observe his handiwork. Videl took the reprieve to compose herself. Her eyes flicked to the crowd, who had watched with mouths agape at their celebrity falter under the weight of such a barrage. The artificial human prompted her to show him that which she had been holding back. It was still too early in the fight to use that technique, too early to demonstrate the pinnacle of her ability. Once she revealed it, it would make clear the depth of her skill, and somehow the female fighter felt that it was a shallow puddle in comparison to the waters he typically tread. But what other recourse did she have? She clenched her jaw and tensed up her arm, curling her fingers into a fist so tight her knuckles whitened. She felt for that tiny reactor within her core, and gradually funneled the energy she had spent so long cultivating through her veins until it coalesced into her hand. A soft blue glow illuminated over her skin. Videl’s eyes locked onto Seventeen. There was no guile in this attack; he would know exactly what was coming. She took one step forward, then another, picking up speed as she went. The woman let out a fierce battle cry and launched her fist forward, aiming directly for the center of the sternum. Time to see what she was made of. ---------------

Fascinating. The Android watched closely as Videl managed to do her best to evade and then block his techniques, keeping the damage to a minimum throughout. She was definitely skilled in hand to hand combat, perhaps even surpassing his programmed knowledge. Thankfully as he watched her, he learned and improved his own fighting style in doing so. His attacks connected eventually, but only because he was pushing well beyond her current ability. Still, the Android knew of no other way to get someone to get better. Then again he wasn't the most experienced teacher. He had been training some of the other Androids but that was about it. Perhaps a bit of practice in teaching was what he needed. At his insistence, she coordinated her ki to show him the full fruits of her training. The attack came like a freight train, surprising the Android with its intensity. While the physical ability wasn't exactly overwhelming, the spirit behind the warrior's technique was awe-inspiring. She'd definitely worked quite a bit to get to this point and when her fist slammed into his metallic sternum, it showed. The Android stumbled backwards, correcting himself quickly enough but unable to hide the damage done by the maneuver. he eyed her with newfound interest. "Alright then. You definitely have potential. Let's test your limit." Without saying anything further to give away what he'd be attempting next, he rushed at her with blurred speed and halted only when he was behind her, standing with his back to hers. He'd temporarily unleashed his full speed then pushed beyond that and as a result had moved much quicker than most fighters were capable of. The Android reached behind himself and attempted a full-on grab, reaching his hand underneath her arms and pulling her upward over his head into the sky with surprising speed and force. Assuming she didn't evade the grab, he rushed after her, aiming a harsh kick straight into her stomach followed by a brutal elbow that would, if it connected, catch her in the shoulder. A double hammer fist was next on the list, aiming to knock her into the ground. Floating above her, assuming his original grab had been accurate. He pointed his hand downwards, palm open with his fist pointed straight down at her. "I sure hope your defenses are as capable as your offensive techniques." With a roar of power he released a massive white beam of energy that threatened to engulf her as well as the entire field. Thankfully it was masterfully aimed and controlled so as to not harm the crowd surrounding the spectacle, who were no doubt enthralled by the energy dispersal. ------ Free. Take A3 1. Bone collided with metal. At this point, Videl didn’t delude herself into thinking she’d been faster or stronger in order to succeed with her ki-infused punch. No, Seventeen had taken that attack deliberately, confident enough in his own durability to not only withstand it but not be debilitated by it. He stumbled, needed to take a moment to recover, but a punch like that against the woman’s normal fare would have broken bone and sent them to the recovery ward for weeks. This man – this robot – treated it as though it were nothing more than a hefty shove. Maybe it reverberated a little deeper than that; she could only wonder, or hope, but in all likelihood, he had a different concept of pain than a flesh and blood opponent. Then Seventeen mentioned something about testing her limit, as if that hadn’t already been what was transpiring. In one second, he stood before her, and in the next, he was gone. She flinched. Was it a trick? No, not a trick. She let out a gasp and her eyes widened as she felt his back against hers, her brain quickly comprehending what that meant. How? How could he be that fast? Nobody outmaneuvered her, not like that. The briefest of seconds taken to swim in the shock of his skill cost her the time needed to move away. His arms came up underneath hers, and before she knew it, she was being lifted overhead and tossed like a sack of grain into the air. As she sailed upwards, she had no means of defending herself as a kick landed squarely in her stomach, knocking the breath from her lungs. An elbow slammed into her shoulder next, sending jarring pain throughout her upper body. Then he was gone again, with a couple fist driving into her back the only clue of his new location. As quickly as the ground had shrunk beneath her, so too did it grow closer as her inertia was redirected to a downward path. The grass rose up to meet her as she slammed into the earth with such force that she bounced a few times before coming to a rough stop. Videl coughed. Every inch of her hurt, but perhaps nothing more so than her pride. She willed her body to stand, and she unsteadily pulled herself to her feet, her entire outfit smearing with grass stains and dirt. The woman looked up; her opponent still hovered in the sky, cool as a cucumber, and had his hand pointed downward. This time, it was no mere blast, no little bauble of light that could be easily sidestepped. Whatever it was, she couldn’t let it touch her. Not for a second. A beam erupted from his palm, deadly and hungry. Aside from the ability to channel ki into her fist, there was one more thing she could do with her energy. It wasn’t offensive, as she tended to favor, and she hadn’t practiced it nearly as much. The android roared, and Videl let a scream rip from her throat to match. She expended her internal energy in an invisible burst, and the beam slowed its thunderous descent before being dispersed entirely. When the light faded, Videl dropped to her knees, suddenly exhausted from the expenditure. That was more than anything she’d ever been called to counter before, and her reserves of stamina weren’t exactly the greatest to begin with. No, she typically needed to end her fights quickly with a minimal amount of expenditure. Marathons and ki trade-offs weren’t exactly her thing. Of course, that had never been a problem before. Not until now. So she couldn’t give up. The fight wasn’t over yet. The warrior within refused to let her throw in the towel. But how to get Seventeen while he was still in the air? She stood on open ground, with nothing to assist her to reach him. The female fighter quickly scanned the area, until she found a spot of inspiration. She dashed over to a bench, and much to the shock of the crowd, she ripped it right out of its bolts in the concrete. With almost inhuman strength, she hurled it into the air with a mighty roar. Then, she crouched down, funneled a little energy into her feet, and jumped after it, her form blurring a little with pure speed as she did so. About halfway to her target, her barefoot touched down on the metal bench, and she used it to launch herself the rest of the way, again using a burst of speed. In a much quicker version of her charged punches, she gathered ki in both fists and aimed for the android’s stomach and head. She’d worry about getting down later. ---------------

RP Award goes to Videl It was a hard toss-up; both of you craft very interesting actions and thought processes with your characters. But this round, I liked the way Videl reacted and continued against a much stronger opponent with her RP. I've also been asked to do a damage report. (Note, this is entirely based on RP.) Seventeen: 98% Videl: 80% Any questions, feel free to PM or AIM me. |

Seventeen couldn't help but grin as his attack was rebuffed harmlessly. The human was wearing down ever so slightly, but she showed no signs of slowing down. She was going to be difficult to talk down. He watched with boundless curiosity as she devised a way to catch him in the air, and proceeded to go through with it. The female human launched herself into the air in an impressive way but before Seventeen had time to comment on it, she'd smashed into him with two brutal punches that caused him to lose balance in mid-air. He righted himself quickly, of course, but she didn't have the same abilities as he did. Sooner or later, likely sooner, she would fall. "I propose an end to current combat until we solve the issue of you getting back to the ground without shattering your bones or possibly killing yourself." Seventeen offered in mid-air, speaking in a louder tone to be heard over the rush of wind. "Moreover I propose an end to this match as I believe the difference in our current capabilities has been fully realized. I'm not even tired, I could do this a couple dozen more times without an emergency shut down. You, however, seem to be reaching an emotional and physical barrier, crossing over which would likely lead to an uncomfortable situation for both of us. Therefore I reiterate offer of a ceasefire. Furthermore, if you'd be interested, my party is traveling to a distant planet to undergo special training. If you would like to join us, a warrior of your caliber is most certainly welcome, assuming of course that you're okay with traveling with Androids." "Would you like to grab onto me now? We're approaching the ground at an alarming but foreseeable rate." ------ Free. Take A2-3 1-Tact. Offer surrender and maybe other training opportunities. Smash. Crash. Success. And yet, still empty, still hollow. It was like bowling a strike with the bumpers up that blocked the gutter. Sure, you technically knocked the pins down, but did it really have any meaning when a handicap was engaged? This time, he didn’t even bother with the show of damage. Instead, he spoke with that same matter-of-factual tone, as if he were pleasantly conveying the weather or reading from a technical manual. Videl tried hard to focus on his words as he spoke, for now her ascent had reached its pinnacle and there was nowhere to go but down. The human started to sink down, and she hadn’t realized until just this very moment how high she had jumped. More on instinct (or panic) than an actual choice, she reached out and grabbed onto his shirt to prevent herself from falling, and with the awkwardness of a child, pulled herself closer to him and flung her arms around his neck to get a better hold. Her face went cross as she fully comprehended the fact that she had to rely on him for help, something she was loathe to do. Videl didn’t like putting herself in vulnerable situations, and avoided them whenever possible. The close proximity didn’t exactly help, even though he wasn’t a typical male. “Thanks,” she mumbled. Her sentiment was genuine, but it still mixed with her reluctance to accept his gesture. “I don’t really have a problem traveling with androids. You’re the first one I’ve met and you’re a pretty decent guy so far.” She sighed a bit. “Considering how badly you probably could have whipped me and didn’t, I’d say I need all the training I can get. When do we leave?” ---------------
