The Paladin's Trials Difficulty: Medium Description: Captain Elderlas has taken you under his wing, seeing that you have the potential to be a great paladin. After a few weeks of intensive training he puts you through the Ancient Paladin's Trials, which test your morality and will to destroy all evil. Can you make it through? Reward: +500 zeni, +5 DP, +40 all stats, +5 Rp Credits Bonus: +8 SP +55 all stats, +1 alignment Requirement: Requires Paladin Signet and must be Lawful Good Questions, those were what the Supreme Kai had come here have answered. He had seen, sensed, and experienced so many things on Namek that no matter how much he tried to rationalize he was unable to. His vision of good, his ideas about what good people, protectors of life and defenders of the galaxy should be like was obviously different than the Avalon Protectorate. Or at least that was the conclusion he had come to while on Namek. It may have been battling evil, it may have been taking out a major threat, but doing so in a way that involved one of the most evil forces in the Universe as backup was something he could not justify in his own mind. It was haunting to think those that professed good would fall into a deal with a group like the Cosmic Empire. Jordan had told the Kaioshin about this group long again and spoke of them as if they were the biggest threat the Universe was facing and yet during the war; a struggle for the galaxy as a whole, they had somehow found a way to make an alliance with a group of paladins sworn to defending life and protecting innocents. Letting monsters like those in Universal Terror get away with such actions without even a finger being lifted to stop them just because they aided you in your goal was not acceptable in his mind. It was not what good people should do. During his time on the planet the Kaioshin had talked with the citizens of Avalon. They were the ones the Protectorate directly ruled over and for a good amount of time as well. Overwhelmingly when he asked about the Senate and those that worked for it, the people of the planet were very supportive. They had confidence in that leadership and in the end they knew they were protected, or at least that was the consensus. Whether that was the case or not, no one truly knew. Avalon had yet to fall under attack in this war and had even spent time bolstering defenses. The citizens lived their lives in peace; even though the war was going on they were confident and proud to be part of such a great group. His data collection had proven to be helpful. He found that whatever took place on Namek was not the way those that lived under the Senate acted. It was apparently an act that was done out of the normalcy for the group. That made the Kaioshin question different things. If it was not the Senate that issued such orders and struck the deals that left only 2 others; The Order of Paladins or the Military Leader and in the end either had seemingly overstepped their boundaries. That was what concerned him the most. Turning a blind eye to evil was exactly what he felt had happened on Namek and never did the ends justify the means in the Kaioshin’s mind if it involved such evil forces to reach those ends. That is how empires would become corrupt and how civilizations would eventually crumble. He was concerned greatly about what the actions on Namek could result in, but even more importantly than that he was worried about what future actions could be done to “protect” the Universe. The concern grew within him as he heard about the war picking up across the galaxy and even worse while he was doing this he knew innocent lives were being lost elsewhere. He had to find a way to stop this war, one way or another. The Next Dimension would be busy during this time and with it the forces of hell growing exponentially faster than the forces of Heaven. Apparently even Androids could go to hell now as he had heard from his acquaintance Juch and they were now striking bargains to let people out. That could in no way be good for the Universe as a whole and that even caused more concern to mount with Supreme Kai. Already he suspected Lucifer’s involvement in this war, but if that was the case, it appeared his plan was working whatever it was and in the end it could possibly make his forces even stronger than before. All of those issues though were in the future. He had come here for answers and he was now going to the only place he had access to in order to get more answers. His actions had not gone unnoticed on Namek and because of that he had earned an honorary signet of the Paladin Order. It made him apparently an official Paladin and with it he also received an assortment of gear. He had yet to even try out the items, but he was aware that they were very efficient for use in combat. One of the things the Avalon Protectorate was well known for was simply protecting the lives of people and especially the paladins that fight for them on the front lines in any struggle whether it be war or not. He was not concerned with all of this right now and instead calmly walked up to the temple of the Paladins, the home of the order which provided such valiant warriors that were bound to honor and defending those that could not defend them self. He had always respected that about the Paladin Order and it was the reason he had decided to join them in their efforts with this war anyways. He had agreed with their doctrine and creed and because of that he felt it was the best thing for him to do with this war. If he was going to be active in trying to find peace then he would need some kind of backing. The paladins were the backing he was hoping for and if they backed him he would aid them back as long as they kept to their own code of conduct. That was why he believed in them and why he knew the actions on Namek were so strange. He needed to find out the reason and coming here was the next option he had. Even if he did not find out about the slaughter on Namek he could still try to talk with the Paladin Masters and eventually gain their blessing in his continued efforts for peace and an end to the war. Supreme Kai walked up the stone stairs towards the entrance of the Paladin temple. He stopped at the half way point as he saw a series of plaques marking the entrance. They were the written code of the paladins, the honor code as it was called and the very doctrine and belief system the Kaioshin had always known the group had. One in particular caught his attention; it was the reason for his questioning of the authority and actions of the Avalon Protectorate to this point of the war.
That was what the Kaioshin believed was the main purpose, the man job of the paladin. It was also something that was blatantly ignored with an alliance to the likes of the Cosmic Empire. As he stood outside on the top of the stairway reading the creed of the Paladin order he found himself lost for a moment in an attempt to understand what was going on. The clear blue sky only had the bright star in the sky the lit the planet on the lovely day. It was the type of day the Kaioshin often found himself in a state of peace during, wanting to simply just sit back and enjoy the amazing beauty of the planet, of the galaxy and of the universe. He loved these types of days and still the flawless beauty of the day was overwhelmed by the questions in his mind, the concern in his stomach and the love in his heart. His distracted focus was something that caused him to miss the grand doors to the Paladin temple opening and the approach of another to his location as the Supreme Kai read over the tablets before him. The man calmly stood behind the Kaioshin with his arms crossed, before Supreme Kai snapped out of his little trance as his senses activated showing him the immense power of the man standing behind him. Supreme Kai turned around and his eyes widened as he looked at the man. The man’s grey hair was flowing in a way that gave him an aura of wisdom, his plate mail armor was adored with a red clock as its silver tint caused it to glisten in the bright sunlight. The armor had large bulky shoulders, jointed arm and leg protection, and thick chest covering. On his back was a two handed sword that gave off a holy magical aura of its own and in his left hand tucked under his arm was a helmet. The paladin, as Supreme Kai clearly knew by looking at him, had sky blue eyes and his battle hardened skin showed what had to be decades of battle experience as the few visible scars he had seemed to tell the stories of the battle he had been in during his long career. As he looked at the commendations and medals on his armor he realized quickly he was not in the presence of any old paladin, but one that had earned an extremely high rank. More than likely he held the rank of Captain and his rank as well as his age commanded all the respect that one could show. Understanding the sacrifice this man had clearly given during his life the Kaioshin bowed his head respectfully to the paladin in what was only a sign of adoration he had for the man’s obvious dedication and passion for what he did. He had clearly been through much in his life. Even more impressively to the Kaioshin was the quick peek into his soul. This man was one that had clearly lived his life according to the Paladin Code. He sought out evil in any form and brought it to justice. Yes he was brought to the point of killing in his life, but he only ever did it when no other option was readily available. He believed in the law and that it would bring those that did wrong to their inevitable justice one way or another. His job was not to issue that judgment though, his job was to simply enforce and find those that needed to be brought to it. He always fought with honor and a purity that drove him. He sought only to serve in his actions and protect what he found most sacred, life. As the silence remained for a few seconds longer it was eventually broken when the paladin spoke up, “You are new here.” The man said calmly to the Kaioshin, “I know this because I have never seen you before and yet somehow you bare the signet of the Paladin Order. This place was the only way one could earn such a prestigious reward until this war began. I will have to assume you have earned your signet due to your actions and I must ask what exactly you did to earn such an honor.” Supreme Kai flashed his normal trademark winning smile as he looked at the grizzled war veteran, “I was involved with the war efforts on Namek. I was not in combat, but I was instrumental in reclaiming the hearts of the Namekian people and not just the planet. It was I who spent my time meeting with the Grand Elder on the planet and worked with Guru to bring the Namekian’s back on board with the Avalon Protectorate. I only was even there to seek peace and that is the reason I have ventured her today.” The paladin looked down at the Kaioshin as he stood nearly a foot taller than Supreme Kai and clearly had no idea who he was speaking with, “I respect your actions, but those involved on Namek did not go about things as I had wished. It was another’s idea; this war is changing our men. They are falling into a dark line that I fear some will not cross back from. Already more people have died to the Paladins of the order in ways I would never wish upon others because of this edict to protect our planets by any means necessary. That is not what I stand for, that is not what our Order stands for and I hope as you read our creed out here that you have seen that for yourself. If you are the one who spoke with Guru to find a peaceful resolution to the matter than you have earned my respect already human. My name is Captain Elderlas and I, while once a great warrior to the order have moved on realizing my day is past me and now teach those who wish to follow our path. It is why I am so concerned myself about this war. I fear as I said we are walking a thin line between light and darkness and I just hope we can find our way back when all things are said and done. The Paladins have put too much into this order to simply allow things like a war to change our ideals. I know the light will win in the end, but I wonder how many will be lost in the meantime. Those are my students out there and I fear for their lives and more importantly their souls as this war progresses and things get worse. I just hope they can all come back the same as they left. That is my hope that is my dream; I just fear that is all it will be in the long run, hopes and dreams.” Supreme Kai nodded his head in agreement. He felt like he was speaking to a man that had much more wisdom than most would give him credit for on just looks alone. He was special in some way and the Kaioshin knew it. He kept up with his grin as he continued the conversation, “My objective, my reason for even being here or in this war is to try to find a way to peace. It might be a losing battle, but I am concerned this war is going to put our galaxy in a position it might not be able to recover from. Nothing will be easily fixed which is why I truly went to talk to Guru. I knew I needed his support if I was going to continue to try to influence the Universe towards peace. That is my true objective in war is to bring peace. It might be strange, it might be a long road, but it is something I am going to work at as long as I can with as much dedication and passion as I can. Really, I just have to do that in order to feel I have done everything I can to truly protect the galaxy. Yes monsters do exist, but they only gain power if we allow them to. I believe through our actions we can change the course of the galaxy and be ready for anything that might come at us later. Not just as individual factions, but as a group that respects and understands one another and even honors that respect. Since you opened up to me and shared your hopes and dreams I want you to know those are my hopes and dreams and I want you to know I will do whatever I can to make them reality. It will be hard, but nothing in life worth having comes easy. Captain Elderlas gave a slight smile through his hardened facial expression, “I respect that young one. You are truly deserving of the honor of being a paladin I can already tell that about you. It would be my honor to train you in our ways more and even put you through the paladin trials. It will test your heart and prove that you truly belong, but I already know you will pass just from listening to you. It is an ancient process, but I believe you are more than ready to pass if your heart truly matches your words you are far and beyond anything that can stand up to the test of morality that we give to our students. It would be my honor to teach you and let you experience the ancient paladin trials. Are you willing?” Supreme Kai got a big smile on his face, knowing bonding with a powerful paladin leader like this would only help his cause in the end. He also looked forward to trials. He had passed Roshi’s, Kami’s, Guru’s, Luther’s, King Kai’s, Grand Kai’s and this would be another to add to the long lasting list of things he had done to advance his own understanding of the powerful groups in the galaxy. It also helped him regain the skills he had lost when he lost his power months ago and had helped him reclaim many of his important lost techniques. In the end he still had a long way to go, but he was still more than willing to put the effort in to reclaim it all and hopefully someday be able to reclaim his place in the Next Dimension and put to an end whatever plan Lucifer had in store for the mortal universe and afterlife. “It would be an honor for me to go through your trial.” The Kaioshin began, “I have actually done a number of trials in my training career and look forward to the challenge. Each one is unique and presents an entire new perspective in the long run. I have learned so much from master across the Universe and it is a blessing truly. I think that is why I have the desire to save so many. I have trained with them and have seen what they are capable of. I know if this galaxy could put their petty differences aside together they could grow to levels of prosperity never seen before.” The last part was a bit of a stretch, Supreme Kai hoped for that well before he started completing these trials, but going through them all did in fact show him the ways of so many races and with that his goals and desires grew for a united galaxy. If this area could unite, then maybe the whole Universe and in the end it might be needed in order to survive what he had believed to be clearly on the horizon with Lucifer and the forces of hell. The elder Paladin nodded his head, “Then come with me, we have some things to go over before the trial.” With that Captain Elderlas walked into the paladin temple after motioning for Supreme Kai to follow him. It was time to do some basic Paladin Training. (A few days later) Supreme Kai stood in the Dojo wielding his Master Paladin sword the Avalon Protectorate had given him for “saving” Namek and wearing his training gear. He could feel just in a couple of days he had learned so much about the Paladin group and even improved his own skill set when it came to fighting, but now he mostly waiting. Today was the day Captain Elderlas had said would be his trial day. A test of his heart’s purity and a way for him to prove he is not just a man of words, but a man whose words match his soul. The Kaioshin knew his own morality, but this was a way to prove it to a worthy Paladin. One that might have the key needed to help him improve his case for an end to the war and peace. He clearly held authority in the Avalon Protectorate even at his age and so he would be a great asset. As he practiced some of the techniques in the courtyard of the temple as he had been shown by the Paladin he heard the door open and turned to see the Captain walk outside to meet him. He was dressed again in his battle equipment, but today even had his helmet on. He walked right up to Supreme Kai who sheathed his sword and nodded with respect. Without much hesitation Elderlas spoke up, “It is trial time. My test is a unique one I learned, well in a faraway area. I can’t go into much detail, but I know it to be the only true test of one’s purity in their heart and soul. I must warn you though that it an attack, a very powerful one that if you are at all hiding true evil within you could very well destroy you completely. If you agree we can begin the trial, my trial and hopefully you are a man of your word and this will be a formality as I believe it will be.” Boldly Supreme Kai stepped forward, “I am ready, and my heart is pure. I hide from you no evil and am truthful about my desire I have shared with you. I fear no test of my soul fore I know how it will end.” As he finished talking Captain Elderlas put his hands into the air with his palms facing the sky. The ki that began to flow around him encased him in a white aura of sorts, but as he sensed the energy level of the main increase he realized exactly what he was doing. This was not a unique tech taught in the mortal realm, but one taught in the next dimension; this was the most powerful of the heavenly techniques, this was the spirit bomb he was gathering energy for. Supreme Kai began to think back onto why he felt so comfortable around this man and if he recalled his presence in the next dimension ever. Clearly a paladin such as this would have made note when he came to the afterlife especially if he was back now. If that was the case he had died of unnatural causes, like in battle and yet here he stood before him today gathering energy and preparing to use a technique the Kaioshin was intimately familiar with. The Kaioshin continued to try to recall battles involving the paladins where they suffered losses and as he did he recalled a time during the Great War before. This was one of the ones that died and yet here he stood alive today and with one of the most powerful next dimension techniques at his disposal. The energy formed to his hand as Supreme Kai continued to think back to the man and tried to figure out how he had been brought back to life. He had never heard of the dragonballs being used on him and that only caused even more doubt to spring into his mind. He was really in the need of answers, but the questions he could not ask because they could give hint to his true identity. The Captain finished gathering the energy and without warning, trusted his arm forward firing out a pure white ball of energy. Supreme Kai only smiled as it neared knowing it would have no effect on him. His heart was as pure as they came and at the end of the day it was the one thing he knew he could count on during his day to day travels. His own purity was without question, of that he was certain. The Spirit Bomb hit directly to the chest of the Kaioshin and dispersed around him without any explosion or combustion of energy. As he was bathed in the energy of the planet itself he could feel it return to the planet and even cleanse his body a little as it did so. Supreme Kai stepped forward from the light, still with a smile on his face as he stood next to Captain Elderlas, “I hope that test speaks loud enough for me. I am just glad I could have passed it, but I do have a question, where and how did you learn to do that. It seemed like it was incredibly powerful of an attack and yet it did not harm me at all?” The Master Paladin took off his helmet as he showed a smile on his face for a change, “That is for another time and place, but for now you have passed the Paladin trial. You are now more than ever in my mind a member of our Order, but remember what we have talked about lately and what that stands for. As far as my technique goes… well let me tell you a story…” WC: 4212 |
