Difficulty: Very Hard

Description:

Dr. Briefs has specifically called for you to assist him with a project, an inter-dimensional doorway opener in the form of a remote control. During the process of this project, he and you are sucked into a dimension to find it completely opposite to your own. The inhabitants are human but their strength levels are very strong and they are very hostile. On top of that the dimension opener has been damaged during the trip and Dr Briefs is going to need a great deal of time to fix it. Your job is to protect Dr. Brief's life long enough for him to fix the remote and get you both back home.

The Saiyan Inferno
It now came down to finding pieces of the past.

And most of those pieces had disappeared thousands of years ago.

Where does one start?

Chishan fell into his seat quietly, staring at the workstation before him. He had moved down to his workshop, the dim lights flickering to life. His lab was a lot different than the one he had on the Phoenixfall. His former vessel had a laboratory that looked more like a high school chem lab than an official military workshop. The Earth Defense Forces hadn’t considered that the saiyan was much of an engineer and granted him a vessel that was more combat-based than anything. While it was somewhat helpful, he had very little breakthroughs in the dozens of blueprints he had created.

But the Night Fury had been far worse. It lacked a lab entirely, instead using the room as an extension of the supply deck. That was completely unacceptable to Chishan and he had revamped it, thanks to the help of the slaves that were assigned to ship. He had worked beside them; talking with them, joking with them, all-together getting to know them better. The other saiyans had commented that mingling with the slaves was looked down upon by the hierarchy; the Lightning Lord saw no reason to treat them any less. They were part of his crew and his crew was his family.

They had crafted a scientific masterpiece. White wash walls that were made of stainless polycarbonate tiles. Beneath those they had installed holographic display generators that reacted with the tiles in such a way that screens could be displayed on the walls. He had modeled it after the reconnaissance room in the Codex, which was a glass room full of displays that monitored different network feeds. The lab could connect with the sensors of the entire ship and display any information that it had access to, giving Chishan the opportunity to do research without having to leave.

The floor was made of the same tiles but instead of holographic projectors, lights had been put in. These reacted when a warm body entered the room by sensing the electromagnetic energy of a person and reacting by turning on. It made it easier to switch on the lights than flipping a switch. They were permanently positioned on a soft setting, as the luminescence would reflect off the white walls and illuminate the room quite well.

The table itself was made of high density titanium with glass filaments in the center. Underneath the glass were similar image display generators but these formed a connection with a processor in the ceiling to allow the formation of a wire-frame grid. Connected with the three computers running inside the table, this allowed the saiyan to manipulate blueprints in a holographic display rather than having to sketch them out on paper. He could also search through databanks and single out objects that he wanted to examine, creating a three-dimensional render of them for him to manipulate and analyze.

It was perfect for a tinkerer like Chishan.

He sat there quietly, yawning. He was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep. But his mind was actively running, refusing to let him rest. So he opted to get up and start the long process of laying out a ground plan.

Ancient texts and rituals, he wondered as he stared aimlessly at the door. A truck load of knowledge had been dropped on him only hours ago, when the trio of him, Monica and Apio had discovered a long-sleeping deity. After a battle that was based on a complete misunderstanding, the Archon had settled the matter by revealing himself to be one of the deity’s brethren. And then they had learned about their past and the ancient authority known as the Avatars of Justice. It had been an intriguing discovery for them all and no more, perchance, than for the Saiyan Inferno.

Given everything that had happened to him and his friends during the war, he had been searching for a reason to bring them all together again. Pan had disappeared with Rubic, most likely trying to hide him away so no one could discover what real condition he was in. He hadn’t heard from Levana in months so he could only assume that her travels with Strega had taken her far away. Hell, maybe she had settled down with him. He could only hope. Minosha had completely disappeared from existence and no trace of him had been left.

But he had been gaining new allies. Kamatayan had proved vital in the war and seemed to share the same sense of honor as he. Shin had come through in a pinch, despite where he had been when they first met. Tapion, as always, was an elusive man but provided a lot help when it was truly needed. And Elric, while still growing, had a lot of heart and a ton of potential. The opportunities for reviving the ancient police force were vast and he hoped that he could provide it to the galaxy. Even with the Steel Legion gone, there was still darkness out there that needed to be met with the force of light.

He yawned again. Damn, he really wanted to sleep. Lazily he reached down and touched the top of the glass, prompting the grid to appear six inches above it. He slid his hand along the edge of the surface and a laser grid keyboard appeared, glowing a soft blue neon. With a crack of his neck, he went to work.

His fingers tapped for so long, he could barely hear the sound anymore. His eyes bounced back and forth between different records, each one promptly being closed moments later. He cross-referenced through several different databases, combing through information from both the Saiyan Empire and the Avalon Protectorate. He had managed to save some of the files from the Phoenixfall when he recovered his hard drive, a few pertinent records that he had been interested in.

But nothing popped. Nothing gave him a solid lead. Hell, he barely got even hints.

The problem was that the Avatars of Justice had existed such a long time ago that it was plausible that their records were either destroyed by natural causes or lost in catacombs never found. The environments of planets had shifted in the ten thousand years since Varos had been awake and the records were lost even farther back than that. Time was cruel to objects left untouched and whatever relics that might have existed could very well be part of the dust on the world now. It made him wonder how many more races and empires had lived in their galaxy, spreading across the stars for dominance. And the more they attempted to stretch their influence, the more got left behind. Quadrillions of lives had passed between the birth of the universe and now. The very thought made him dizzy.

He sat there, hopelessly staring at the three different pages of information. Nothing helped, nothing looked promising. He’d wasted a better part of an hour (he had glanced at the time reading on the monitor and groaned when he saw the illuminated 2:45) on this. There was no more he could do tonight. Chances are his exhausted mind had missed something vital in all the words he had just scanned through. He’d get back at it tomorrow.

He prepared to get up and leave when a thought occurred to him. When he had asked Archonias and Varos if they were lost, they had closed up so fast one would think they were a sea muscle being prodded. They had forbidden them from asking any more questions on the subject. It had surprised the saiyan to see that reaction, given that they were so open only moments before that. Something about the Lost had touched a nerve, a nerve that might have given him a clue.

Kelioux was the home world of the Keliouxian Empire as well as the former home of the Lost. He had done minimal research on the planet and its history and found a basic readout of its inhabitants and their legacy. When the Lost had disappeared, Kelioux had been a lush world called Kayren, the pride and joy of the Lost. But after their mysterious departure, the world had been savaged by a meteor storm that killed the natural vegetation and wildlife and made it inhabitable due to toxic gases in the atmosphere. Eventually it regained its habitable status but its surface was still treacherously malnourished and scarred. It had taken the Keliouxian’s terraforming programs to start bringing life back to the once-dead planet.

Interestingly enough, the world was still littered with ruins from the Lost. The native empire had built around them and treated anything they found of them as holy relics, technology that deserved to be studied and worshipped. While it sounded far-fetched, it was the reason the Keliouxians were able to advance their technology by centuries. So there had to be some promise behind it.

If he wanted information on the Lost, Kelioux was the place to go. They had a large structure in the center of their capital city, the Academy. It housed some of the more prominent relics of the planet’s past and also gave residence to some of the galaxies smartest and well-respected scholars. Perhaps in their history books or in their intellectuals he could find a key to start his search.

He quickly typed into the computer, bringing up some of the information he held on Kelioux. It wasn’t much. Articles about the expanding lessons in the capital city, old war articles about the empire’s push against the Planetary Trade Organization. He shook his head. If he truly wanted to get to the bottom of this, he would need to go to the planet itself. At least he knew where his next destination was. He began once again to get up when a particular news article caught his attention. It was from an Avalonian reporter before the war, about a celebratory meeting between a Keliouxian ambassador and a human scientist. He skimmed the article quickly, his eyes trailing over the words with practiced ease.

Quote:

November 3rd

Another step towards scientific diplomacy was taken and both humankind and Keliouxian have moved forward together. The Keliouxian Ambassador came to Earth today to a rambunctious crowd, offering smiles and waves to the oceans of humans that had gathered for his arrival. But the subject of the trip hadn’t been for luxury or diplomatic discussions over the growing tensions in the galaxy.

No, it had been around the subject of Earth’s own brilliant scientist and CEO of Capsule Corp, Dr. Briefs. The gentle old doctor had been praised by the Keliouxian government for his work in interspatial-travel and was given a grant by the ambassador in front of a rousing crowd. The grant was for an estimated six million zeni to be used for the continued research of the inter-dimensional tests. When questioned about the progress, the doctor said “We’ve made great strides in unlocking the hidden realms that lie just next to ours. My team and I hope to open a gateway between our world and a parallel one in hopes of proving once and for all that our universe is only one of a much larger multiverse.”

The Keliouxian Ambassador went on to say “The research that Doctor Briefs has already gathered rivals that of the Great Lost and it is our hope that the good doctor will continue to make great strides in the name of science. The Keliouxian Empire will do everything in its power to help Doctor Briefs realize his dream, be it through funding or overall support.”

The Avalon Protectorate has long supported Dr. Briefs scientific research and has sent numerous scientists to aid him in his strides. His most recent project, the inter-dimensional gateway, aims to break down the walls between realms and allow passage to the other side. Dr. Briefs has said before of the project: “Many people worry about the possibility of what’s on the other side. Personally, I’m excited. A whole other realm provides us with infinite possibilities. My main focus is to utilize it to increase the rate of warp travel. Many people don’t know that the warp is actually a dimension itself made up of powerfully flowing energy. We simply use it as a river to take us from point A to point B. Imagine the possibilities of a defined realm, with people just like us. What we could learn from one another…the very idea excites me!”

The saiyan’s eyes went wide. This was it. No, this was better than ‘it’! Instead of traveling to Kelioux, he could utilize this man’s technology. Archonias and Varos had said that they used to store many of their relics and knowledge in other realms that could only be accessed by them alone. They had used magic to seal those portals away from any that may come snooping. But that had been thousands of years ago and magic energy only lasts for a finite amount of time. Chances are those magic locks have long worn down. And no doubt an interspatial portal would usurp them and allow passage for the saiyan.

His smile lit up. There was his loophole. There was the step he needed. Now it was just about getting down to Capsule Corp and convincing its chief scientists to let him try it out.

Sure, piece of cake.

-------------------------

“So what exactly are we doing here?” Apio asked, looking up at the large building.

“We’re here to convince a scientist to let us use his invention.” Chishan explained as he, too, looked up. Capsule Corp, the large round building that had sat proudly in West City for years, had been utterly demolished during the Steel Legion’s reign. The Saiyan Inferno had heard rumors that a saiyan had battled here against one of the Control Units, though he had no idea who it could have been. Perhaps Pan, though she never mentioned it. Not that we had much time to talk anyways… he complained internally.

But the corporation had not failed despite the massive damage to its assets and to its workers. Whoever had managed to survive the Legion’s reign had come back to work in hopes of rebuilding along with the rest of the world. Capsule Corp had been a beacon of hope for humankind, for its scientific breakthroughs had been praised across the universe. The Keliouxians were not the only empire to come to Earth and give high regards to the Doctor Briefs and his team. And that’s why they had temporarily moved to New North City to their Northern Branch.

North City had been one of the last metropolises to fall to the Steel Legion units. Though its location was widely known by anyone on Earth, its location held no significant advantage to the Legion’s plans for the planet at the time. So they had left it to sit in the cold north until such a time that they needed to assimilate its residents. It was because of this that many fled to its walls, hoping that perhaps the androids had no idea it existed. The northern mountains were tall, wide and numerous and transmission towers were rare outside the city’s boundaries. So unless one was actually looking for it, it was fairly hard to find. Lost wanderers used the series of road tunnels to get to the hopeful sanctuary.

But alas, the machines set upon the city shortly before the final assault. Whether it was a desperate plan to assimilate more units for defense or a last attempt to take out as many enemies as possible, one will never know. All that is known is that nearly five hundred mechanical units had gone dark in the city, before they were able to completely decimate the place. Only twenty thousand people had been killed by the siege.

Twenty thousands. It was terrifying that was considered a low number.

The massive windowed tower rose nearly forty stories above the trio on the ground, the sunlight reflecting off its polished surface. People were bustling all around them, moving to different places in the city. It was incredible to think that so many had returned to a sense of normalcy shortly after the fall of the Steel Legion. They did shoot looks at the saiyans, as if wondering what they were doing there. But there was no sense of worry or concern over their presence. Even now saiyan warriors dotted the planet as it’s ‘protectors’ if one could use such a term. There were still radical machines that were not connected to the Steel Legion’s server that were fighting against its extinction. It was necessary for the Empire to keep a firm grip of the tiny blue marble planet.

“You think they’re compensating for something?” Apio asked, leaning over to Monica.

"Their main building used to be a round concrete mound that looked like a boob from above. You tell me.” She said, shooting him a look. The younger brother clearly wasn’t sure if he should laugh or not.

“Let’s go inside. I can’t imagine this is going to be as easy as I hope it will be.” Chishan said, finally bringing his eyes down to the door in front of them. As he took the first steps, the other two followed shortly after.

They slid through the revolving door rather easily and entered a rather extravagant lobby. A series of metal poles stood erected in the middle of the room, spread evenly apart from one another. A black mat covered the ground underneath and tiny lights seemed to be flashing on the sides. X-ray machines, most likely. A greeting desk was on their right, curving around at a ninety degree angle to end near the machines. A steel lettered logo of “Capsule Corp” was stenciled into the wall above the desk, which had been layered for design more than use. On their left was another wall, though it was only about the size of Chishan. The top of it had been filled with dirt and tiny plants had been installed into the soil, blue orchids and bamboo stalks patterned all the way to the end. The actual wall to the building, a solid glass panel, faced the west and caught the remaining sunlight that would cover the city until dusk. Beyond the security checkpoint there were escalators that took visitors to the second level. An elevator was nowhere to be seen.

“Well, they sure keep this place fancy.” Apio muttered to himself, though it was loud enough for Chishan and Monica to hear. The older brother simply ignored it as they strolled up to the welcome desk. A brunette sat there, smiling like a doll with an earpiece in her right ear. As the trio walked up to her, her smile seemed to quiver. She had noticed the tails around their waists but didn’t want to panic. No, she fought back the worry and pushed her smile even harder.

Hell, Chishan couldn’t blame her. While the Saiyan Empire was believed to be the most dominant force against the Steel Legion, it also was a proven fact that they were still the Saiyan Empire. They were a race of brutal, war-hungry warriors that honored strength above anything else. And their taking of slaves from ‘weaker’ races was a common topic in many circles. So suffice it to say, there were many on Earth that were worried they were simply going to become a labor planet for the mighty saiyans.

“Hello and welcome to Capsule Corp North.” She said sweetly, her tone lacking any sense of worry. A seasoned pro; the Saiyan Inferno was impressed. “How can I help you today, sirs and madam?”

Chishan stepped up and leaned against the desk, giving his best lady-killer grin he could manage. It had been so long since he had actively hit on a woman before that it was kind of like getting back on a bike after years of neglect. Simply really.

“Hey there pretty something.” Oh god, was that really his opening line? He mentally face-palmed as Apio and Monica behind him groaned. Recovery time. “We’re looking to meet with Dr. Briefs. It’s very important.”

She frowned. “Oh, I’m terribly sorry. Dr. Briefs only meets with clients with appointments. But I’d be glad to fill you in for a spot if you’d like?”

He looked back at his team, who nodded, before giving his answer. “Sure thing.”

She smiled back and turned to look at the computer. Her fingers tapped away at the plastic-looking keyboard, completely transparent. After a brief moment, she turned back to him with that same smile. Though this one looked a bit more hopeful. “How does next March sound?”

Flabbergasted; that was the only word he could use to describe how that sounded to him. He fought the urge to let his jaw drop and instead, reaffirmed himself with a grin. “C’mon, there’s nothing sooner than that?”

She giggled. Had his words worked? Not bad for being rusty. “Of course if someone cancels, you’ll be on the list to call and fill in as a replacement. Though I should warn you all the other appointments are ahead of you on the list. So shall I mark it down?”

Well damn it. He stared at her for a moment longer before he held up his finger. “One sec, just have to discuss it with my…team.”

He turned away and walked over to them, leaning in close. “Well that went well.” Apio muttered, rolling his eyes to look at the girl.

"What are we going to do? We can’t wait until March. I mean, we could but it’d be ridiculous” The former assassin said, looking to Chishan.

“We’ll have to go over her head.” He answered.

“Like fly up? I think people will notice that.” His brother responded.

“No, I mean teleport up. I’ll transmit us to his location.”

Monica’s brow furrowed. “You sure you want to do that? I can only imagine that will trip some kind of alarm.”

He smirked. “We’re going right to him. I highly doubt he has alarms sensors on where he is working. Just trust me, I’ve done this before.”

Vlad flew over the war torn earth and frowned as technology really had taken a blow perhaps there was no existing place that could support facilitate an androids requirements. Unsurprising as any who attempted to bring androids back to a galactic “race” status could be hung drawn and quartered by a populous driven to paranoia at the hands of the steel legion. Androids were particular cases to organics an alien may be different but it was biological, product of evolution progressing as it did on earth machines like androids, machines like Vlad himself and the unit he had cradled in his arms as he cautiously flew over the land were not products of natural life even tho the anomaly many call souls have seemed to take form in them the idea of soul in circuity was far from embraced. Androids inhabited both the uncanny and the outsider at the same time as being machines unnatural creatures that many were guarded about and many purest were outright resentful towards as their very existence was a sacrilege to their crisp clean binary world view.

Vlad chuckled at the thought. It was funny how his brain was computerized and yet the AI had beheld more binary thought patterns in organic beings. The irony was funny in a dark comic way. Not to mention at the heart of the steel legion was an organic being turned yet the events still picked up the media paranoia of machine uprising causing protests outside robot factories and the like even tho at the threat of the greatest technological threat was a mortal man whos short sighted ambition...

Vlad sighed remembering Spider who because he is a war android lovingly committed genocidal activities wired by a mortal but still a sign that even his kind is vulnerable to irrational life styles and approaches to things psychotically wired to be the greatest living weapon in existence he feels nothing for those her cuts into it all is just the feeling of affirmation that he is the greatest weapon ever to exist.

People who did no wrong to him killed just because their readings intrigued him. Killed and tortured just for the opportunity to indulge in the testing of himself that he is the unrivaled soldier. A soldier that was now free of any chain of command with Gill out of the picture.

Benevolence and malevolence knows both flesh and steel.

They were different. Rarely did an android champion divine right or perfection unless they were wired with such a thought pattern and rarely would an organic being take up the weapons life style and mentality unless they were subjected to harsh conditioning that soft hearts would get them killed or mentally screwy.

Both sides had fault but it was partly at fault of how simple the media portrayed androids as cold machines perpetuating stereotypes and excusing violence against the “non living” that the intelligent units will take manners to defend their own existence perhaps exercising excessive force to effectively attempt to dissuade them. All came to pass in the circle of violence that made peace between natural biological machines and their creations a dream of the benevolent on their sides. Gigga had been scared to perpetual pessimism of natural beings and his executing of programers in a pessimistic attempt to stop organics from enslaving inorganics was creating a new generation that would go on to hate and distrust mechanical beings. It was a mess and it was a violent cycle hard to break as the viral stings spread to both sides every android AI enslaving collar produced provokes a new android to take arms to protect its power to make autonomous decisions and every organic slain by an inorganic created grieving families to be recruited by the likes of Gill to AI and spread that hate.

\Vlad looked down at the unit cradled in his arms it seemed to have a limited active power and slept like a human to recharge. It was adorable as some may say but vlad continued to fly slow so as not to wake the unit if it had a sensory alert system that would awaken him.

Vlads sensors picked up on something strange causing him to freeze in place

Quote:

“Machines don't have life unless it's stolen ones, like the unnatural androids."

That... that voice was Chishan a friend of Vlads... how could he say something like that?

“See Vlad you trusted organic beings but even the best of them that you see as your true friends share the view of those that see us as soulless imitations. You lie to yourself and say they can see the soul is immaterial thus any system that can take it can harbor a soul. You heard it from the monkeys mouth any friendship you hold with him is one way, his friendliness is nothing more then humoring your wiring, a friendship every bit as artificial as you yourself. You hound me for being a morality devoid beast and how I can take a job for a person one day and slit their throats the next and feel no sympathy. I kill people for money and pleasure and when its money it is a simple and honest business transaction.”

Spiders voice came in to Vlads hearing.

“Its cheep and its low but its real. Neither of us give a damn about the other its just honest business. You delude yourself into thinking your friendship is reciprocated when in reality they do not see you as any more alive then an AM radio. Merely playing that warm phantasy of speaking to a living machine when they really feel you are as vacant of self as a blender. Cold and detach my relationship with my clients may be to each-other it is honest neither of us are deluding ourselves that our relation goes deeper then they are paying me to do something. Neither of us have to give a shit about each other after the transaction is complete. They need not fake sympathy in the event my husk is rusting in a puddle somewhere and I need not shed a crocodile tear for the hit contract I receive for the man I just worked for. Honest apathy for each other on both sides not one side giving brotherly love and the other putting on an act for fun. You end up living a comfortable lie and I end up living a fulfilling carrier.”

Spiders tone was bitter and resentful unlike the typically chilled out and reserved android who could stab threw the skull of a dog in front of their litter of puppies and feel nothing beating them to death against a wall just going off to watch a wrestling match the next moment after the last drew a final breath.

Vlad shook his head no 'You likely clipped that from a conversation he was having removing the context to serve your taunting.”

“Even if that is true it was he who made the generalization, I did not change a word nothing in his conversation came before his generalization of machines, the only way you have a self is your father is a murderer essentially or a necromancer. That is Chishan's position. You can deny it and fill the blank with whatever you wish or excuse it any way you please but as it stands machines are not alive in his book unless a life was lost for it. Feel free to seek him out I will point you in the right direction. Do you know CC north? Look there his name should be in their visitor book by now.”

“keep in mind Vlad a cornered snake-oil seller never tells unless they are put to the pitchforks and you lack the might to extract the truth from him so take his reaction with a grain of salt and take all your friends projected honesty to their embracing of you as a living being with a grain of salt keep in mind I did not fabricate that quote he said it himself. He thought he was alone with another entity and I heard it with my unrivaled infiltrator eavesdropping. Eavesdropping is dishonorable you may think but it does enable you to get to know a person behind closed doors.”

Spiders presence dissipated from Vlads systems.

Vlad decided to take him up on that and fortunately he was near the building now so he made his way to it. He could see his friend again, find a place for the sleeping android child unit, find a way to use his newly acquired strength to contribute to CC rebuilding efforts and other things so there was more reasons then the simple clearing a miscommunication.

Vlad was also hopeful he could request aid from his friend to go with him to Pluto and go into a lab to test him and his allies. Vlad felt bad about potentially dragging a friend into Spider's web as he was potentially worse then Gill at least Gill had an aim and to an extent conscience Spider was mentally wired with a maximum security asylum of a futuristic societies worst of the worst potential capabilities. Unrivaled infiltration, empathy challenged if not absent, unequaled torture of the body and mind, war crime, prolonged torturous murder with an unrivaled mercenary fighting style and skill uncontested with a knife preference for a special switch blade he had slain galactic champ class gladiatorial fighters more lives have fallen to him then snow in an antarctic blizzard for a year all to that knife in his hand.

Chishan even if he was honest about that hurtful statement would not deserve what Spider would do to him. He likely had suffered a good deal of loss and pain just as Vlad himself had in the fight against the legion.

Vlad arrived at the CC north

Fortune was for a time on Vlad as it seemed few people were on the street or in the near by location Vlads skin was slowly returning in uneven patches magic was a hard thing to adapt to even for a quantum computing artificial consciousness like himself, the vacant space of knowledge to exactly what magic was and the mechanics of it did not help.

Vlad went inside to a familiar android desk worker “Oh my you look horrible, please wait I will get the repair team here and they will fix you up.” she said

Vlad could not deny he was happy to see she was still functional he was fearful that the paranoid masses would have pulled her to pieces by now but here she sat at the job she was made for and the job she seemed to enjoy truly. Androids that remain active for so long tied to a mission can embrace it with pride just like any organic being and she seemed to be glad to handle paper work and appointment scheduling and other such occupational responsibilities.

Vlad shook his head smiling as the layer under the flesh had repaired itself to enable him to make such a visible expression.

“That will not be necessary, the damage has been repaired it is mostly exterior appearance that needs to heal a bit but have you any data on a visitor by the name of Chishan? I need to see him and speak with him, allot has transpired both during the conflict and since then and I am worried about him.”

Vlads words were honest even if the venomous words Chishan used where his deep in his heart it did not matter, perhaps it was just the absence of genetic programing to hold grudges that enabled Vlad to be so forgiving or his creator's wall to polarizing emotion that simply took the betrayal into quarantine. Whatever the source of his organic surpassing ability to forgive transgressions or simply his suspicion that Spider cherry picked a chain of dialog that Chishan was in the middle of. Vlad did value his friends and wished to know Chishan's condition even when he practically looked like a metallic mannequin with singed flesh in places and regrowing on others all over a dirty silver colored under layer of rubbery mussel.

So much had happened and so much to discuss but Vlad feared the time would not be there to cover even a quarter of what should be but hopefully the time would be sufficient to have a little time with a friend he did not get a good chance to do things with in some time.

Vlad was shortly after guided into a room Vlad took a few “cleansing breaths” as he collected his thoughts noting that the unit escorting him looked at him confused no doubt knowing what he is made it intriguing that his physical behavior mirrored organic beings so. He also noted how she gave an cute expressive face herself to the look of the child unit asleep in Vlads arms.

A big project was no doubt behind the door so Vlad prepared himself for a brief reunion but at least it will be some fun that he would not have alone with Spider prying at his mind that alone is all he will ever truly be.

The Saiyan Inferno
Poor Dr. Briefs.

He worked quietly as his workstation, his fingers handling an odd looking machine. He took short breaths as he continued to tinker with the object. He reached up with one arm and brushed the sweat from his brow, shuffling his soft blue hair around. He readjusted his horn-rimmed glasses with that same hand before bringing it back down to help its counterpart. His cigarette was almost nothing; having been burned down to its stub and the ash barely hanging onto the paper cover. But still a small trickle of smoke ran off the end as the human sucked more of the haze into his lungs.

There is no doubt it anyone's mind that the good doctor would have had no problem working quietly the rest of the day. He knew exactly what he wanted to finish and when he planned on finishing. He worked by his own schedule and didn't care much for anyone's input. He was a solitary worker, often more annoyed by other scientist's presence that appreciative. He was not a hard man; outside the lab, he was as pleasant as a sunny day.

But when it came to the nit-picky technical issues, he was always ferociously focused.

But the sudden screeching behind him nearly sent him into the ceiling, jumping up from his chair as he spun around in surprise. His arms went up in front of him, a mock fighting stance that looked more ridiculous than dangerous.

"Who the hell are you three?! Who let you in here? HOW did you get in here?!" The man exclaimed towards the trio of people that now stood near the door of his lab.

Chishan stepped out of the small group and held his hands up as if he were surrendering. "We mean no harm, Dr. Briefs. I just really needed to talk to you."

"What kind of person bursts into another's lab just to talk? Explain yourselves right now before I call security!" He blurted out, already sliding along his workstation towards the panic alarm.

"Jeez he's antsy." The blonde-haired girl remarked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"I don't remember you being so coy when you first teleported." The other man said, glancing in her direction.

The human doctor was almost there. His fingers slid along the table's surface, searching frantically for the tiny little red button that was installed there. He was seconds away from his armed men bursting in and arresting these clowns.

"Dr. Briefs. Please, I'll explain everything to you. But it's going to sound crazy and unbelievable. But believe me when I say it all revolves around your inter-dimensional gateway."

That stopped the older man in his tracks. Slowly and carefully, he rose off the table and leaned forward with a questioning look in his eyes. "What do you mean it's about my gateway? What exactly are you talking about?"

Chishan took a deep breath and took a small step in, making sure to keep his hands up. "I believe the portal that you are working on is a key to my search. I can't...exactly divulge the details of what I'm looking for or why. But what I can tell you is the objects I'm searching for were locked in another realm, hidden from the world by their creators. They are pertinent to the galaxy's safety and the protection of our future."

A brief moment of silence passed as the good doctor stared at the saiyan, completely flabbergasted. His mouth hung open just enough for his cigarette to fall to the ground, breaking apart from the impact. "What in the hell are you talking about?"

The saiyan frowned. That wasn't going to get him anywhere. No, if he wanted to earn this man's trust, he had to be completely honest.

"Alright Doctor, have a seat and I'll start from the beginning."

------

It had taken the better part of an hour but the Saiyan Inferno had regaled the human scientists with the whole story. Dumb-founded and shaking slightly, the man brought a new cigarette up to his mouth and lit it shakily. He took a deep puff, inhaling so much that the stick practically melted down to its filter. As he let his breath out, the puff of smoke he released was almost as thick as water.

"That's one hell of a story, Chishan." Dr. Briefs said, shaking his head slightly as he rubbed his forehead with his thumb. "But as a scientist, it sounds absolutely implausible."

"That sounds implausible? You haven't seen anything yet. Trust me, I watched it with my own eyes. Heard it with my own ears. It was...well, I'd be smoking that hard as well." Monica said, now leaning against the table.

The light-haired doctor looked up at the Lightning Lord. "I've heard about you. The saiyan that fought Unit 5000, right? That must have been something; going head to head with a mechanical masterpiece like that."

The saiyan's brow furrowed. "Masterpiece is a bit of a stretch, doctor. The process in which those androids were created was horrible. Ro-...Unit Five-Thousand wanted to do that with the entire galaxy. No, he was a monster."

The human shrugged. "From a morality standpoint, you're right. But as a technical scientist, his creation is still astounding to me." With another deep puff, he sighed. "So you need my machine to travel to this other dimension to find a cache of ancient texts?"

"That is what the whole point of telling you the story was for." Apio quipped.

Dr. Briefs nodded. "Well, I honestly wish I could help you but I haven't been able to make my dimensional gateway work. At least, not since before the Steel Legion. I was making great advances when I was getting money from the Earth Defense Forces. They seemed extremely interested in the project and what could come if I succeeded. Personally I just wanted to expand our horizons and find new worlds to explore and learn from. But I suspected that the seeds of the Legion were already planted in the EDF once the Steel Legion came online. They probably wanted to open a portal to another dimension to spread their influence."

"Sounds like something Five-Kay would plan." Chishan said quickly. Knowing how demented Rondown had become before his end, it definitely was plausible that his interest in Briefs' tech was for that reason. "What happened that stopped your advances?"

"Honestly, I'm lacking a power source. Theoretically, the rest of the machine is fully operational. You see, my original design called for a literal gateway; a circular metal door that would 'tear' through our plane of existence into another. But I quickly began to realize that I could simplify the design. My final blueprints revolved around a remote control." He turned and grabbed said remote, holding it up for them to see. It was a small box with a few dials and buttons on its face with a long antenna pointed off its head. "This sends out an electromagnetic signal that reacts to the hidden isotopes in our universe, tiny pockets of anti-matter for the less educated. Once stimulated, it gathers the latent pieces into a set destination before expanding like an electroactive polymer. And as it expands, it literally tears a doorway open from our universe to another parallel one."

""Sounds like it needs a large amount of energy." Monica remarked.

Dr. Briefs wagged his finger. "Precisely my dear. I've tried out most power sources that can fit into a device this size but the farthest I've gotten is creating a tiny storm inside my lab. The portal begins to open but then the electromagnetic field crashes and the doorway slams shut. It's frustrating to say the least."

Chishan had been listening but as the doctor spoke, he had reached up and pulled the casing off of his scouter. With practiced ease and swiftness, he detached the experimental chip he had been using to power the device. The tiny green light on its surface continued to glow as he took it out and pulled it into view.

"What is that?" The human doctor asked.

"A possible answer. Let me see the box." He said, holding his hand out.

"Whoa hold on there. This is a highly sophisticated device that has no rival. If your chip there were to burn out its programming, it could set me back years as well as drown millions of dollars of research." The doctor said, holding his remote like one would protect a child.

"I'm offering a chance, doctor. The worst case scenario is that it burns out my power chip and we're back to square one. No harm will come to your device."

It took another moment but the doctor finally gave up his remote. Chishan quickly pried off its covering and glanced inside of it. The wiring was extensive, the green wafer covered in transistors and gates. He gently pulled the operating board out so he could see the primary power source.

"What is that technical piece anyways?" The doctor asked, adjusting his glasses to look carefully at the small device.

"It's an experimental operating chip. It's based on Earthly designs along with a few others, including Next Dimension."

The human blinked. "I'm sorry, but did you say Next Dimension?"

Chishan nodded as he continued to seek. "I traveled to the afterlife through a series of unfortunate events. I didn't die per se but I was among the dead. While I was there I witnessed some interesting pieces of technology, including a machine that could cleanse one of all their evil. I took the time to scan it with my scouter and kept a copy of its design. One of the more interesting pieces I found was a power source. It was a strange amalgamation of both science and magical energy. It essentially drew in latent magic energies in the afterlife and transmuted it to electrical energy. It never needed to be plugged into a transistor; it ran on pure energy from the world around it."

"My god that is interesting." Dr. Briefs said, leaning in.

"Of course, magic energy isn't as prominent in our world. So I had to alter my design and instead changes it analytic properties. It would recognize my ki energy as a magical source and draw power from that." He said, smiling as he found the empty slot for the power.

"Wait...so that thing..." Monica started.

"Yes. It can charge anything with as much power as I can generate." He said, clicking in his creation to the box. He quickly reconfigured the device and placed its parts back in their proper position.

"What's its range?" Dr. Briefs asked.

"Thirty yards. It uses an advanced wireless signal locator that I altered to read for my energy signature. It wasn't hard actually; our scouters can already recognize power levels and the signatures attached to them. It was just as easy as transferring that programming to a much smaller base. And because of that, its range was drastically dropped. But I wouldn't need it far away from me; it only needs to work while its on my face." He said, clicking the covering in place and turning the remote over to face him.

Apio began. "And now that its in the remote...."

The Saiyan Inferno grinned. "We should be in for a wild ride."

And he pressed the button.

Vlad
ADBZRPG Guru
Vlad walked down the sophisticated halls of CC North Vlad turned to the female android who was escorting him and reluctantly requested that she kept the child unit in her care .

Vlad had a sinking feeling something would go south in this be it spider sabotaging an experimental project or something going to hit the fan on its own Vlad was feeling like a hex when he recalled the many his involvement made a situation worse. How many has he met that would soon after feel the malice of Gill or the cold blades of Spider. Vlad did not wish to ensnare the child unit into whatever would go wrong in some way probably due to Vlads involvements it was inevitable to Vlad even with SL and Gill gone shit went wrong and no small list could be made with his name on the list of involved parties.

Vlad felt wrong he had wronged many people by inviting such malicious forces on all who he got involved with and made their lives all the worse and even with all of his efforts to do good in the galaxy he remains too weak to aid anyone long term even with the fact that he is a tireless machine he was ridiculously ineffectual too reluctant to do anything never capable of bringing positive change alone incapable to face down planetary threats alone.

Chishan was a champion facing down global threats regularly out of necessity and Vlad with all his passion and will was simply incapable of facing such foes without others on his side, and he dared to dream of becoming a galactic hero? Laughable.Vlad deserved the repeated mockery spider was giving him.

If he were stronger he could do more and be more helpful he was beginning to feel and think power could benefit the whole. Vlad was aware that that was likely just a response to how distant his dream seemed to be a champion to be an effective guardian.

Vlad knew not what to do or how to advance himself he was aware that he had grown quite strong but how could he balance his growth? How could he advance to the future in the best possible way and how to combat the shadow of organic fear and distrust of androids with self?

What about his friend? What if he finds out Chishan's hurtful words were his true view? Vlad was a true fully developed AI not a hint of his being was taken from a living being he was a pure machine and if Chishan genuinely seen machines as lifeless what would that say about the larger picture of the fickle masses of organics?

Vlad tightened a fist as a surge of malice hit him. These masses he fought his own kind both against SL and androids driven to pessimism so great that they would rather die then risk being forced to comply surrendering their will to organic slave masters. <If thats the case I was in the wrong dethroning Gill. Gill would give them the segregation they wish. Let the chickens have the KFC they voted for.>

Vlad sighed and shook his head he was getting unnerved and upset over nothing that demon that found home in him a while back did intensify his pessimism at times. Vlad was creating a massive space station sanctuary for inorganic beings and if the organics try to enslave AI Vlads AI would break their shackles and draw the into the space station giving the organic beings the segregation they desire.

This future was still an unknown needing to be patient to see what direction things go Vlad would not allow the likes of SL to prosper converting organic beings or executing organics but he also would not permit organics to regress into a stage where androids are less then slaves.

Vlad sighed progress was a snail chugging along where regression was a rock dropped from a tower.

Slow progress that could be so easily lassoed and pulled back with such ease progress is such a heavy thing to pull in the right direction that regression is so much easier, it would be easier to make machines subservient, it would be easier if androids just rolled over the galaxy, it would be easier if you have a world of organics and a world of androids and the sides were forbidden from communicating or interacting at all to the point that even speaking of them is unlawful on a planet separate. Coexistence was the dream of positive progress but these regressive simple solutions would forever seem so much more appealing because they would be so much easier to enforce and pass laws around vs coexisting as equal.

Vlad sighed again disheartened by it seemed Gill may win even when he has been swept under the rug with the nail trimmings.

Vlads form was now in the stage of duality as his form was half repaired and clothed while the other half was his true self the humanoid machine under the flesh.

The duality of his being, the embodiment of much of his hardship clear for all to see a machine among organic beings an individualized construct whos rights were more permitted then indisputable or irrevocable.

Vlad was comfortable with what he was. What was so different then him and a human or the likes of Chishan? Chishan is a natural biological machine not so different from him. What was different? A biological machine created by nature what was so separate from an inorganic machine created by that same natural construct's mind and technological know how. Both of them were machines their differing origins and composition were irreverent to the android.

Vlad came up to a big reinforced door no doubt something a pretty big deal was behind it.

“Is this the place he is in?”

“According to the doctors scheduled update yes Chishan should be behind that door helping with a very important experiment so the data report said.” She sounded unsure it was possible she was lied to by the doctor being an android it was possible she was getting left out of the information out of fear she could do something with the data.

Vlad sighed and moved hair out of his face then rubbed his temples.

<if this is an important situation how could I help and not fuck it up> he thought.

Vlad sighed again fortune favored the bold so they say and so he opened the door and smiled.

“hey Chishan pleased to see you again friend. How are-”

Vlad was cut off by a massive burst of energy as a portal booted up violently sucking Vlad in fortunately the gynoid was behind the wall with the child unit still sleeping in her arms.

Vlad was pulled into a strange place after what felt like a year of being pulled apart and sent on a roller coaster one atom at a time sending a massive surge of pain surging threw his sensors unprepared for what came to pass.

Vlad woke up in a ruined landscape. “Well that was agonizing but fun, never wish to do that again but it was a thing. Hell of a way to get here.”

Vlad said as he worked his way to his feet. Looking around confused and to a degree scared he asked“Now where is here?”
