It had been fascinating how history books would often glorify the conqueror as a hero – a man without boundaries, and often were considered a God amongst men. In a way, there is nothing more exciting than watching someone rise above expectations and realize his/her dreams. All of the men he had read about were great visionaries. But once you looked past the glory and fame there was a story of misery. There is only one way to become a conqueror – you will have to reach it by spilling blood and making sacrifices. Soldiers who fought loyal and bravely were cast away like pawns and the part which made it all strange; they wanted to be the pawns in the chess game. Not the king, not the queen, not the bishop nor the knight. No, they wanted to be the pawn. They were mesmerized by the sheer will of their leader and by following him they too, even if it was a little sparkle of that will – had the chance to feel it. There was a certain beauty in it all that fascinated the Android.

He had taken a risk against his fight with Crin Blackheart by letting him chop his arm off – a risk he had to take to win the battle. What remained was cut off wires and leftover parts dangling from his left shoulder. He rested on a metal table with several wires connected to his frame. All of the cables were tangled in a pile of mess that lead to a computer where a dark haired woman was typing several instructions into the system. She had a noticeable tribal tattoo covering her right shoulder and a cigarette loosely between her lips. Her name was Annabel, an acquaintance of Sin, and his personal savior after receiving a good beating.

She slightly tilted her head to the right so she could have a clearer view of the table several yards in front of her. She observed Sin’s detached arm that lay there. By the looks of it, it would be a simple matter of replacing a few parts and rewiring everything so it will function properly when given commands. Of course, during or after reparations she might find other problems considering you never truly know if you did everything right until you install it back on. Hopefully the latter wouldn’t be the case.

Anna exhaled a thick cloud of smoke.

This wasn’t the first time Sin ‘sacrificed’ his body parts to gain victory. If he wasn’t an Android or couldn’t regenerate his limbs he would have been a dead man a long time ago. But he was an Android and used that fact to his advantage. Mortality was really a trivial matter to him anyways. Yes, he could in essence die, but he never truly lived to begin with. He was an artificial intelligence, the keyword being artificial. No matter how well your design might be. Or how Human-like you made it – it would never truly know what it meant to be alive. Still, defining what it means to be alive is in itself a difficult subject.

‘’I will need some time to finish repairing that arm of yours.’’

As she stared at the arm it came to her realization that it would be better to renew his entire system from head to toe, but that kind of procedure would cost a lot of resources – something that neither of the two currently had. His design was quite outdated by today’s standards. Each day technology would improve at a rate that it was hard to catch up. Especially considering the trade with Avalon has made the Humans a force to be reckoned with in terms of technology. The Human race has been prospering, but there was still many places left to be explored. Mysteries left to be unraveled.

She walked towards the dark-blue arm and examined it thoroughly. It was as she expected, there weren’t any major damages done to it. A clean slash that was supposed to be targeted at what Crin thought to be a Human. The look on his face when he realized that he was fooled: Priceless. She grabbed some protective gear before starting to work on the arm; heavy leather gloves, a mask to shield her from any sparks during welding and a long sleeved jacket that can withstand heat. She cranked the volume of the radio next to her up as she listened to hear favorite station, Sweet ol’ Music – for all your jazzy needs.

Large amounts of sparks scattered as she started carefully welding on the Android’s arm – forming an intense heat. Sin watched as she worked her magic. She was quite talented in many fields, but after her duty as a soldier it seemed she lacked the drive to excel. From what Sin had gathered about her she was an outstanding warrior, but something had made her desert during a battle. And as such she was seen as a coward by many. There were always two sides to a story though. It was yet to be revealed what her tale was. It took a while, but she was finally done with the rewiring and repairing. A satisfied face revealed itself when she removed the mask. The Android detached all of the cables he was connected with and went over to place his arm back on. It fitted perfectly.

They stood outside in the cold night air as the Android prepared to leave. He started rotating his left arm some more to make sure there was nothing wrong with it. ‘’I guess you are leaving now?’’ She finally asked as she flicked a cigarette which was her fifth one of the day. ‘’There are certain things I need to take care of,’’ he said as he gave a final look to the Human, ‘’Thank you, Anna.’’ A gush of wind blew her hair as she watched the Android fly away into sky. She frowned as she grabbed the last cig from the pack – tapping the bottom knowing that there was nothing left. ‘’Fuck…’’
