The interior of the lab was old, and musty, as if it hadn't been visited in quite a long time. Then again, "lab" was a poor way to describe what looked like a waiting lobby. A sterilization chamber could be seen through a glass window at the other side of the room, but he couldn't see anything beyond that. It was apparent that the lab was either further down or further forward into the mountain. With that in mind, he paused. He would have to continue in a moment or two, but first, he had to make a brief call to one of his contacts. Besides the fact that he needed to let his allies know where he was, he also had to get an item picked up.

His fingertips brushed against a small communicator on the inside of his ear, pressing down on the button with just enough force to activate it. It flickered to life with a myriad of tones and beeps at full volume, but Lysses didn't say anything. Instead, he continued to scan the laboratory. He had to think of who to contact. Gregory wouldn't be able to make it out there in time to be useful. The Lab was literally across the fucking country from him. He'd have to book a flight, get a ride to the mainland, and then deal with customs.

CALLING ALISTAIR GRAY
CALLING ALISTAIR GRAY
CALLING ALISTAIR GRAY

"Alistair, it's Lysses. I've got an issue that I need your help handling. Right now I'm in the Cardinal Mountain region. The locator on this device should give you the coordinates you need. I'll explain once you get here, if that's alright."

He spoke brusquely, but as politely as he could manage. If the boy didn't hurry, he was going to be in even more trouble than before. However, Lysses did need the time to recover. With that in mind, he stepped back toward the massive double doors, kicking them open with a powerful strike, and striding back towards the disabled body of Android-72R, the Gatekeeper. He had put up a powerful fight, waging a mighty struggle, but the battle had ended a few moments prior. The proof of his strength continued to linger all over Lysses' body in the form of cuts, scrapes, bruises and scorch marks.

Had it not been for some kind of design flaw, the odds were high that he would have eventually lost to the machine. It would have tired him out long before it ran out of energy. Then again, most Androids had a limitless energy generator somewhere within them. Would that motivate the boy more, if he knew?

No, from what little Lysses understood of the boy, he would prefer to figure out the Android by himself. It would also help to have a nearby ally in the case that he got himself into too much trouble in the lab's depths. He felt like the mountain would be his labyrinth; he had to solve it himself, but he was not foolish enough to bite off more than he could chew. He'd almost died doing that twice in the last week.

"I'd appreciate some hustle, but I think I've got a little bit of time."

Alistair had been sitting at home, minding his own business as he flipped through the pages of a large book that was titled “Atomic and molecular physics.” He went through each page in roughly one second before moving onto the next, progressing at such a pace that others would doubt that he’s reading anything at all. Of course, what he was doing was actually very simple, he just read the entire page at one time, much like normal people read a sentence word by word. It wasn’t a natural ability, he had spent much time practicing and enlarging what he could read at once. Still within a few months time it had become second nature to him, and he had done so at the age of ten years old.

As he neared the end of his book, a small device sitting on the desk next to him began to vibrate and ring. He knew that there was only person who would contact him through that device, and that would Lysses. The Avatar of Argus had given it to him two days ago after their talk at the warehouse. So, of course, he was the only person who knew the frequency to contact him on.

After two rings he picked up the device and taped the button on the side as he placed it into his ear. He could immediatly hear Lysses, who sounded somewhat angry, rushed, and tired. It was surprising considering his extreme level of power, what could have in such a state? This was very interesting to Alistair.

”Alistair, It’s Lysses. I’ve got an issue that I need your help handling. Right now i’m in the Cardinal Mountain Region. The locator on this device should give you the coordinates you need. I’ll explain once you get here, if that’s alright.” said the Phagian man.

Gray had not missed that the last portion of that wasn’t really a request, he wouldn’t find out a damn thing until he got there. Was that supposed to be a ‘draw’ to the younger man? If it was, it had little effect, since he was up and walking out his door the moment he had answered the call. It would have been very embarrassing if it had been a simple social call.

” I would appreciate some hustle, but I think i’ve got a little bit of time.”
He continued, however by this point the dark haired boy was already flying through the air towards his destination. He was glad he had been bestowed the ability to fly due to his unique genetics and his training with his father.

” I’m well on my way already Lysses, I’ll see you shortly.” he said, ending the communique with the Avatar. He flew through the air as fast as he could, which admittedly wasn’t very impressive given that his father could easily travel a few times this speed. He suspected Lysses could do the same, and perhaps even at a greater level than his father.

Within a short period of time he managed to locate his comrade outside what looked like a lobby or waiting area. He realized a moment later it was likely the lobby area of a very large compound that was built into the mountain itself. He could guess this due to the depth of the 'lobby' and the bright lights illuminating the entrance. Also, the creature that was obviously a cyborg or android on the ground in front of him. It appeared to still be capable of functioning which through Alistair off. After all, why leave a machine of war 'alive'? He would have to get the details on that for sure.

He stood next to the creature with mild interest, inspecting the damage done, which appeared somewhat serious. Despite the damage done to the machine, it was obvious it put up quite the fight. The Avatar of Argus had bruises, cuts, and burns over various areas of his body, though these were relatively light injuries besides the dislocated hand. It wasn't life threatening by itself but given that combat scenarios were likely to take place soon, things like that would be very detrimental.

However the area around them was torn to shreds and burning, likely from their “Ki’ or ‘mana’. Alistair had been gathering a lot of knowledge about this from his father since he had met Lysses two days ago. He knew he had a lot to learn and tons of practice before he could do anything spectacular by their standards, but he was a determined individual. Still, he could tell that they had basically blown apart one side of a fucking mountain. Just how much could this energy do? It excited his mind in ways that he hadn't experienced since he was a child.

” Hey, I guess I can assume your day’s going fairly well considering all this? Well, I’m happy to help, but what is it you want me to do exactly, and since it probably ties in, what is this place? Why are we here? He asked as he started looking over the machine in front of him.

Lysses spent the time waiting for Alistair by examining the unconscious body of his former opponent. Despite the heavy damage that he'd suffered, there still seemed to be a little bit of power left within. Lysses didn't know much about Machinery (other than how to dismantle it), but it seemed as though the Gatekeeper would survive their encounter. There was a lot he wanted to know about the other fighter's power. That was to say, he respected the other fighter's power. It wasn't often that he was driven to his limits against an opponent of equal strength. He was used to fighting from behind; in that regard, an even match shouldn't have been difficult.

When Alistair hit the ground, Lysses looked up at him. The boy looked like he'd flown there as fast as he could, but that top speed had still made the time feel like an eternity. Instead of making a remark about it, Lysses gestured toward the android on the ground, wincing from the pain emanating from his wrist. The battle had taken its toll.

"I need you to take this Android to a safe house of mine in the forests. I'm pretty sure that the fires stopped before they reached it, so you should be able to find it pretty easily. Inside the safe house is the technology you need to examine this thing and figure out what makes it tick," he began, sounding stern.

He straightened from his kneeled position in order to maintain a more dignified look. That said, it was difficult to look strong with a body so broken. A fresh scar hovered over his right eye, partially healed after the day's battle. A small trickling of blood was rolling down the side of his face, accentuated by a smudge of dried crimson dropping from the corner of his lips. There didn't seem to be any swelling on his face, but the same couldn't be said for the rest of his body. Clear bruises were visible beneath the torn cloth that must have once been his jacket, and burns surfaced beneath zones that his under-armor failed to hide.

"This is, as far as I know, the lair of a Doctor Thaddeus Bright. This Androids was one of his projects, and it... was easily just as strong as I am," he admitted, even if begrudgingly. "I don't think this is somewhere you want to be right now, all things considered. It'd be best if you took the Android to the safe house and let me handle the rest of this fight."

He took the communicator off of his ear, and offered it up to trade with Alistair.

"In my communicator's files is the location of the safe house. It's far enough from here that I didn't consider stopping by it, but the main issue is that it's in the other direction... over the mountain. Like I said, there's next to no chance that the fire spread that far. If you can get that Android operational, but restrained, I'd be pleased."

Lysses' energy slowly began to seep from his pores, expelling itself in thick waves. It was obvious to him that he was going to need it in the future. Inside of Doctor Bright's lair was a series of challenges that he didn't yet know the scope of. Every battle was going to be uphill, but despite that, he could feel the urgency that seemed to charge the air around them. He didn't know what Project "Fullbright" was. He only knew that it needed to be shut down.

"If you manage to get any useful data off of that thing before you reactivate it, feel free to give me a heads up. That said, I don't think we have that much time. For all I know, I'm chasing an empty rabbit hole now."

Alistair listened to Lysses explanation and his “request.” That is, it was phrased as a request, but it as said as a stern statement, like an order. That wasn’t to be unexpected of Lysses, who was used to ordering people around and commanding respect due to his power and experience. That did hold true in Alistair, he did in fact respect his ability and experience to the utmost. However, he was not a soldier, nor was he an official ally of this man. At most they were only just starting to know each other at all.

However, he had called the young man here, and he was positive that there were others he could have called here, and he was also sure they could have beaten him here. Perhaps it was due to his own abilities in the various scientific fields? Given the request that was the only thing that made any sense. Still, he was unsure of what he really wanted to do here. He decided to speak plainly about his thoughts on all of this, including the fact that his new ‘comrade’ was being near suicidal, or perhaps simply overconfident in his own abilities.

’Lysses...are you that eager to kill yourself here in that mountain? I don’t know exactly how powerful you are but if what you told me about this thing on the ground is true, you’re walking not only into a trap, but a trap full of greater dangers than this guy, who was equal to you.”He spoke without missing a beat, his blue eyes looking at the man in front of him with a mix of determination, anger, and concern.

”I am fully aware that my own power is basically equal to an ants when compared to your own. That said, my own abilities may be more useful here than examining this machine. I am a man of the sciences, that’s true, however my specialities were not in robotics, but Anatomy, Physics, Biology, and other such fields.” He said, before looking down at the robot in front of him. It wasn’t that he had no experience in the subject, and probably enough to analyse this thing, but it was true that it was not his focus.

He was, of course, unaware that this machine had actually crossed over from that realm into that of truly sentient creatures, fully capable of creative thought. as well as making it’s own decisions should a few minor things be deleted from it’s now incredibly complex coding. He could see however, that the wiring inside of this thing was so damaged that it wouldn’t be able to restart itself without major repairs. He continued his speech with that diagnosis in mind.

” As far as restraining him goes...somehow I doubt he’ll be doing much in that condition without a serious overhaul.... Still, if you insist, I will not follow you...but I will not simply allow you to walk to your death. Remember, I personally need you alive to find my birthplace and to help reclaim it. Let me see your hand.” he said , holding out his own hands, waiting as Lysses held the damaged extremity up with a confused look on his face.

The younger Zaunite did not take time to explain what he was about to do. After all, it would be harder to deal with if he knew the excruciating pain was about to take place. He did not betray that, inside his head, he was really hoping that Lysses didn’t just blow a hole in his face out of spite, and swiftly got to work.

In what was an obviously a very precise and practiced movement, Alistair pulled hard on Lysses’ hand, twisting it slightly and then pushed it back into place with sickening crack. He knew from experience how painful this was. He also knew many people who screamed and cursed for a full twenty to thirty seconds to deal with the pain while tears streamed down their face.

After all, this was a severe dislocation with multiple stretched and damaged tendons. He didn’t know of Lysses damaged nerves, but he did doubt this man would do any of that. He just seem too tough for that.

” Almost done.” He said, hoping the man trusted him enough to let him finish the quick treatment. He pulled what looked like a diabetic syringe from his pocket. It had a very small needle, causing nearly no pain when it pierced the skin and the medication it administered was certainly not insulin.

It was a concoction of drugs that Alistair himself had created. He had even created a chemical compound or two that were part of said concoction. He had certainly tested it on himself and others before this, and knew it was safe. However, he would not use this without this mans approval. That would be a violation of his own code, though he realized sometimes you had to break such things, this was not that time.

” Inside this is my own concoction of medicinal compounds, it will reduce pain, increase attentiveness to a slight degree, reduce fatigue, and reduce swelling.” He said, pausing before getting to the negative side of it.

” The only negatives to it is that it can only be used very sparingly, so once you use this, it cannot be used again for quite some time. Aside from that, tomorrow you will feel somewhat more tired than normal.” He said, taking a deep breath and a look of concern came over his face.

A few people over the years had seen his logical analysis of various things and had regarded him as cold. That was far from the case, as he simply did his best to remain as calm as possible in serious situations. This time, his concern for the man was obvious through his actions as well as his eyes.

” Of course I cannot force you to ingest it, but I highly suggest you do, as even with your hand relocated it will still be very stiff, as will the rest of your body. Especially with all those broken ribs and strained muscles. If I cannot follow you into the interior, then this is all I can do to help you. He said, waiting for his fellow Zaunites’ response.
