Lysses resisted the urge to visibly flinch as Alistair approached, choosing instead to stand his ground with a stoic, albeit concerned, expression. He wasn't used to having his personal space invaded by people of the same age, and honestly, it felt somewhat awkward. It was more typical for him to punch or stab at anyone who grabbed at him in the way Alistair did, but instead of reacting violently, he watched the boy go to work on examining his injuries. He seemed to be somewhat interested in the extent of the damage, which Lysses could understand. Despite the boy's limited combat experience on Earth, it didn't seem like he'd been exposed to a lot of wounds. Lysses damn near screamed when the boy suddenly cracked his wrist the other way, but settled for doing so internally rather than actually screaming. He was lucky that the nerves in his hand were burned beyond repair, otherwise he would have had to deal with a literal fuckton of pain. A single bead of sweat beat down his brow as his eyes narrowed into slants, trying to play off the pain as a mild inconvenience. In reality, it had hurt just as much as dislocating the fucking thing in the first place. He watched with a vague impatience as the boy went about explaining his next move, going so far as to inject him with some kind of strange material. The effect kicked in almost immediately; his aura began to recede as he regained proper control over his power. The boy was healing him with the injection, which while unasked for, was convenient. Lysses flexed his hand experimentally as the needle was withdrawn, examining the arm with mild curiosity. It seemed that the boy's expertise lay mostly in the biological sciences, which, again, was convenient. He would be able to examine what was and wasn't genuine with the Android's body with some degree of success. At least, so Lysses hoped. "As much as it must pain you for me to say this, I would never let you follow me in there," began the blonde, inhaling and pulling his power to his core. "The battle with that Android was hard enough when I didn't have someone else distracting me. If I thought you were strong enough to hold them off for even a minute on your own, I'd let you. If I thought you had a chance to survive, I'd let you." He paused, face clearly strained. It was hard to explain his opinion to the boy. He felt, vaguely, like he was implying that the boy was weak. That was not, despite his words, what he meant. The boy, though he was weak in comparison to him, was strong overall. He was easily a thousand times stronger than the average human being. That went without saying, seeing as he survived a full power blast from Lysses hardly a week prior. The Phagian struggled to correct himself before Alistair could reply. "You're not weak; make no mistake of that, you're not weak. The difficulty is that the strengths you're bringing to the table are best placed... anywhere other than inside of this mountain. While I would love to have your help dealing with some of the technology inside, I wouldn't be able to fight with you there. I don't know how you fight yet. I'd like to find that out, but not against these... things. The stakes are too high, and you've got too much left to see." It still felt as though he was mismanaging everything he said. "The Android has the... emotional spectrum of a human. I'm certain that, somewhere, there's an actual, biological piece. The exterior is fake flesh and mangled metal, but somewhere inside is a sentient being. I need you to examine it, but all I know about it is that it utilizes technology created by the Capsule Corporation and the Red Ribbon Army. If we can figure out what makes it work, preferably without killing it, then we can learn a lot about what we're facing here." 703 |

The black haired youth looked at the now somewhat healed Lysses with a bit of anger in his eyes. He was right in that he did not want to hear that he was useless here. Still, he knew, deep down, that he was right. He looked from the blonde man, to the robot on the ground, and back. He was, admittedly, incredibly interested by what his comrade said. The fact was that this thing had come up pretty evenly against an Avatar of Zaun, and that was an accomplishment. Not only that, but it apparently could feel emotions. This thing had certainly piqued his curiosity. ”Tch!” He let out the sound of irritation as he relented to the more experienced man. He reached out and grabbed the communicator as he pulled his own from his right ear and, with a raised eyebrow and disgusted look, wiped some blood and earwax from the small device. He reluctantly put it into his ear with a slight wince. He knew it wasn’t something that could be helped, but that didn’t mean he had to like it either. ”Alright, I’ll take care of this, but do us both a favor and try not to destroy that lab or let it be destroyed. There is probably a lot of useful things in there and even more so if you want me to learn anything about Bright and this thing.” He said as he picked up the fairly heavy man. He left the weapon it had been wielding behind, deciding if it was important he could come back for it later, and launched himself off towards his new acquaintances safe house, being guided by the ear piece he wore. ” Good Luck.” He said as he left the area. Soon, as he got closer to the location pointed out by the device in his ear, he felt a strange sense that he had been being followed. He knew that it was not Lysses, and if it had been someone who wanted to kill him he, or it, would have done so by now. He looked back behind him, from one side to another, and grinned. Maybe he would get a chance to prove himself after all. He had seen his stalker, regardless of the fact that it was supposed to be invisible. That was due to another one of his special though often useless traits. His father had taught him to focus his “mana’ into various parts of his body, including his eyes. He had been told this could increase your vision in many way, and with his heritage, it could manifest in unique ways. In his case, with what would normally be extreme amounts of focus, he could clearly see something very unique after all. He could see electricity, or perhaps, the affect it had on the electromagnetic spectrum. He wasn’t sure of that yet, as this was only the second time he had used this trick. However, he did know he had found the location of an enemy. Now he only needed to figure out how to deal with the problem. He also knew that it was not human, and more than likely, it was a machine. He decided dealing with it here would not be to his advantage, and ignored it as he made his way to the safehouse. After all, as long as Lysses did his job, it wouldn’t matter if it found the place. Still, he figured he’d let his partner know, as well as check in with him. It had been quite some time since he had left. “ I think I have an uninvited guest...well, I think i’ll be fine. Hows things over there? WC:628 |

Lysses watched the boy fly off, a pang of guilt hanging heavily in his gut. He wasn't stupid. He could tell that the boy had wanted to stay and accompany him. If Lysses had less experience, if there had been no war, no famine, no death, he would have let the boy come with him. The labs below were bound to be chock full of technology and information that the boy would have loved access to. If the facility wasn't completely destroyed by the time he got out, he would be sure to invite him back and share with him the knowledge of Bright's experiments. His fingertips flexed at his sides. The air was distinctly colder than it had been a moment ago. The world around him felt crisp and vibrant; real. The world had grown sharper in the seconds that had passed since the boy's departure. Had the injection carried more with it than the standard healing formula? Lysses glanced down at the site of the injection, eyes hovering over the flesh with a macabre curiosity. In hindsight, allowing the boy to inject him with something could have been more dangerous than he had previously assumed. He still hadn't ruled out all chances of the boy's treachery, after all. Then again, the boy didn't really seem like he had any urge to betray him. If that had been the case, the serum wouldn't have had a healing element. It would have shut him down on the spot, forcing him to kneel and relieving him of all control. Seeing as he wasn't yet gasping for pain on the ground, Lysses ruled out the odds of having been injected by a poison. It wasn't much longer before he turned to examine the insides of the mountain. Outside, the sun had started to sink into the Earth, forcing a dim twilight upon the remaining trees and cutting off all sources of outside light. In response, Lysses extended his hand, conjuring a thin ball of ki to surround his wrist and light the way toward the sterilization chamber. Even before he entered, he could see the vague details of the room in the window. It looked, mostly, like a blank white room with a chemical shower in it. Despite the fact that it looked innocuous, it was obvious that entering the shower would likely be dangerous. It wasn't unlikely that Doctor Bright would have included some kind of failsafe in the event that his son would fail in his attempt to repulse an invader. Lysses had been about to enter the room when a voice crackled to life over the communicator in his ear. At the same time, a door to the right of the room slid open with a deafening screech, drowning out the statement-- which he could only assume had been a warning or an indicator of trouble. "Gah-- shit, I'm fine. Stay on your toes and update me once the situation's dealt with, I think I'm about to have some problems of my own over here!" Before he could finish his statement, a trio of steel skeletons stepped forward from the threshold, eyes blazing red and bodies poised to strike. Problems indeed. "Alright then, assholes, let's see what you've got!" 561 1,892 |

”Gah--Shit, I’m fine. Stay on your toes and update me once the situation’s dealt with, I think i’m about to have some problems of my own over here!” Lysses replied to his inquiry pretty quickly. Alistair had heard a terrible screeching sound in the background, followed with an obvious indication battle had started. ”Alright then, you assholes, lets see what you’ve got!”The transmission ended there. He would have liked to be able to watch that battle, because he was still quite worried. An intense silence behind him reminded him that he did not have the luxury of worrying about others. There was something following him and as far as he knew, it was because of this heavy bastard he was carrying with one arm slung over him. He briefly wondered if he could just drop the damned monstrosity and be on his way. Instead he swiftly jerked his head back and forth, as if to forcefully expel the thoughts. He might not have been best friends with the Phagian who had asked him for a favor, but he was being counted on. He had swore to himself he would never let down someone who was counting on him, ever again. His face grew more determined as the communicator indicated he had reached his destination. It only took him a second to notice the very out of place door in the side of the mountain. As he drew closer the lights switched on, probably a response to the device in his ear. He fell gracefully to the ground directly in front of the door, which was obviously reinforced steel. It opened and he stepped through it quickly with his cargo in tow. It slammed shut behind him, and he heard three simulatenous, heavy thumps. Focusing his sight again, he could see three distortions and assumed they were similiar to magnetic locks used in advanced bank vault doors. The kind that costed a pretty zeni. A voice came over the intercom in a very even, monotone, and obvious simulated voice. Alert! Unauthorized Personnel Detected! Alert! Unauthorized Personnel Detected! Alert! Unauthorized Personnel Detected! ” Yeah, yeah, I know, shut up already!” He barked at the annoying computerized warning. Though annoying, the confirmation of his suspicions and eyesight definitely pleased him. He walked down the hallway, dragging the creature along with him. He looked over at the wall, seeing a Protectorate emblem on the wall. He found that kind of amusing that they were protecting him even now. He also found it annoying that he couldn't just take care of the problem head on. He continued on his way, to find a place were he could begin "operating." He grinned as he said ” lets see what I can dig out of your head shall I?” He said, with clear reference to the robot who was unconscious, or non-functioning. He suspected the one following him was inspecting the area for weak points in the defenses, which included the reinforced steel, concrete, and bedrock above him. Eventually, it would get inside, and then he would figure out how he wanted to handle the situation. He made his way down the hallway to his apparent destination, passing many rooms along the way. Some had beds and shelves, another was obviously the bathroom and shower area, food storage rooms, and finally a very large room with many computers which had recently sprung to life. Obviously this place had been hermetically sealed, as he could not even find any dust. The entire building reeked of a sterile smell, one he disliked a great deal despite being a scientist. He reached into his pocket, pulling a pack of cigarettes and his light out. There was a table in the center of the room, flat and made totally of steel. He laid the large individual onto the table, brought a smoke to his mouth and lit it, taking a deep breath as he surveyed his surroundings. The entire place was a network of metal panels for walls, steel everywhere, besides glass for monitors and rubber insulated cables with optic fiber running through them. He said to himself "I wonder how good Protectorate defenses really are?" He said as he waited for the eventually coming of his would-be assassin. However, he would not simply be sitting idle, waiting for his doom, instead he withdrew a cigarette from it's package and lit it, a thoughtful look coming over his face as he considered his options.
