Gadr tapped the side of his helmet, triggering his helmet’s com-link. He floated in the vastness space. Well, more like, he fell slowly towards the atmosphere of Earth. The giant blue sphere engulfed his entire field of vision. Sapphire with swirls of blue, and masses of green and brown. Its moon, lingered far off, a dull gray orb of rock littered with dirty pockmarks. It seemed so bleak, so pathetic, compared to the majesty that was the gem of a planet below.

“Hodr, is the Epsilon Cannon charged?”

“Yes,” Hodr’s cold voice returned. “I charged it with my own ki. It’s ready to fire.”

“Good, fire it now.”

The ship, which until that moment had been invisible, materialized into view. It had been there all along, masked by its cloaking device. The ship itself looked like a starburst, all hard angles and sharp corners. In its center was a cluster of long tubes, the center most tube charged white-hot with power. Gadr watched it gleefully as electrical bolts scattered into open space from its tip.

He reached out and grabbed the large capsule floating behind him. Using his own ki, burning a bright fuschia, he blasted off. The friction of the descent did little to slow him or even discourage him. As he entered the atmosphere it boomed, indicating his breaking of the sound barrier, and he shot towards the ground below like an armored humanoid missile.

The HUD in his helmet tracked the location where the Whisper Hounds had been loosed and he set down, landing on one knee, a few hundred yards away. His impact dissolved the ground in a wide circle and sent tons of smoke and dust into the air in one big mushroom cloud. He dropped the capsule, and pressed the button on the side, opening it up. Another dozen or so Whisper Hounds charged out, flitting this way and that, hungry for a target.

The first thing he did was remove his helmet, letting his long snow-white hair flutter into the breeze. It tickled his gray flesh and he took a deep breath. The air here seemed perfect, just the right gaseous mixture. It reminded him of home, of the planet long gone. His people were Lost, after all. A race that faded into memory. But, this day he would prove why they laid the groundwork for all the other beings out there and had fathered many mongrel races. Such as the ones that stood against him today.

He whistled a low tune, the Whisper hounds flitting to his side, all of them slavering, but obedient. It was just how Hodr had showed him, they responded perfectly to the tones. Their wispy tentacles swayed back and forth, like the tails of some other hounds. He didn’t like the beasts, nor the idea of using them. But, he needed every advantage he could get.

Striding across the fields of wheat, his chrome armor glinted with sunlight. No doubt to the trio of warriors awaiting him, he would look like some sort of archaic god fallen from the heavens to wreak havoc upon their world.

The color of the sky suddenly shifted to a bright orange and he gazed up. The cannon had fired, a massive beam of light descending upon the nearby city. Gadr felt good, felt alive. No longer did he want to go back into cryosleep.

No, he lived for battle.

“Shit,” Roland said realizing just what was happening. First the strange alien warrior had landed. As they had predicted moments ago. He saw that he had a pack of the hounds with him, and some shiny armor. So shiny that Roland couldn’t make out his appearance from this distance.

However, he was more worried about the new sun that had appeared in the sky. It appeared to be some sort of pillar of light, headed to destroy Central City. He felt his fingers curl around the handle of the Father of Swords tight. So tight that his knuckles went white.

He turned to Chishan, his voice a dark omen. “This isn’t good. He has a pack of those dog-beasts and is about to wipe out the city. No doubt he means to split us up. But, what choice do we have. Chishan, you’re probably the only one that can stop that beam. I’ve felt your power when you transform. Me and Adelaide will hold this bastard and his hounds off until you get back.”

Roland turned to the kid. He didn’t look like much, but Roland had the pleasure of fighting him. Sure, he had been drunk. But, the kid had landed some hits on him and had made enough of an impression that Roland remembered him sober. That had to count for something, right?

“You ready kid?”

The Saiyan Inferno
The sudden impact must have surprised them all.

Something came from the sky with righteous fury, slamming itself into the ground and causing the dirt and grass to erupt up from its swift arrival. The earth below the saiyan's feet trembled at the force, as if the planet itself was quivering in fear of what had just come knocking on its front lawn.

As the brown clouds began to billow in front of them, the emerald eyed saiyan glared into it with cold, uninterrupted determination. No doubt the trio of warriors knew such an entrance was coming; after all, the main event always preceded the opening act without delay. And the canines had done such a wonderful job preparing them for exactly what they would be dealing with. His fingers curled tighter into his palms as the smoke screen began to dissipate and the full figure of their enemy appeared.

What strode towards them was something he had never seen before. It was a humanoid alright but it was clad in some of the heaviest armor he had ever seen. He had fought plenty of mech-suits but this resembled more of a power armor than anything else. He couldn't make out the being's face given the extreme glint bouncing off the polished metal but he could feel a natural energy flowing from it, telling him it was indeed a living, breathing...well, thing.

And what could possibly emerge from the sky but a giant pillar of furious light. No doubt it was some sort of energy attack, meant to level the city beyond and separate their own pack. Cowards, he thought with a mental hiss as his eyes flicked between the approaching enemy and the massive blast heading towards Central City.

"I don't like leaving you two alone with this thing." He said to Roland, only quickly glancing at the man. He didn't dare take his eyes off the approaching mech in case it decided to suddenly attack them. His words were true; he couldn't get a direct level of power from this thing without being close to them, his personal senses seemingly scrambled. But surely it would be a force to be reckoned with if the first wave told them anything. At the same time, if someone didn't do something about that energy attack, it would slaughter thousands of lives. Including Roland's daughter, Ruby.

With a speed even he didn't know he had, he reached into his little brown pouch and pulled out two senzu beans, rolling them in his hand. With two quick swings of his arm, he sent them flying to Roland and Adelaide. "Avoid their teeth. They can paralyze you if you get bit. Dispatch them quickly and then focus on the machine." He knew Roland was right; he had to stop that blast at all costs. Just before his image splintered apart, he tossed one more look to his older ally. "You won't be alone."

And then he was gone from the spot, traveling unseen nearly two miles away to the center of town yet again. As his form materialized, he could already see the number of people around him that had frozen in awe of the approaching light. Some fled, others just stood and pointed up at it. He turned his gaze up to it, his face hardened.

He tapped his scouter, pressing the tiny green button that he had only used once or twice. And with that done, he tucked his arms down behind him, his wrists meeting and his fingers creating a cage.

"Haven't used this yet, Roshi, so I hope it works." He muttered quickly before he began to pull energy from his core. The ground underneath him began to rumble as it had before, even going as far as to rise into the air from the sheer force he was exerting. Sparks of electricity crackled all around him as his aura burst to life in a tumultuous roar, spinning wildly as it expanded as well. In the small space of air between his palms, a small orb of red energy began to form and grow in mass.

The world around him was becoming covered in the glow from the approaching wave of energy but the golden light coming off of him attempted to rival it. He was whispering, the small chant he had been taught rolling off his tongue in almost breathless stops. The ball in his hands had grown to the size of a basketball, pressing against his skin and spinning as wildly as a whirlpool.

As his arms suddenly thrust forward, the last part 'Ha!' exploded out of his mouth. From the cupped hands erupted a massive red beam, so large that it more exploded out of his aura than his combined arms. It plunged up towards the sky, hightailing itself straight up to meet the incoming beam head on. It matched its size and its power, its red form ready to crash its horns with it in a vicious battle.

Adel was watching the sky when the crash happened. He was already on edge, so the shaking from the crash didn't throw him as much as the original appearance of the sky-fireball earlier.

The plume of dust cleared, revealing more of those dog monsters. In the middle of them, however, was something Adel wasn't expecting. It was a humanoid shape, but much larger, and shining with either reflected light or it's own energy. It looked like nothing so much as power armor from one of the tabletop roleplaying games he used to indulge in, back when he had a life.

Welp, thought Adel, Good to know these things have a master after all. Wait, why is that good? Crap, never mind. Focus. A master meant that the dog monsters weren't just random chance. It meant that these things were part of an attack. All thoughts of focusing were temporarily blanked out, however, upon sensing the massive wave of energy bearing down on the remains of Central City. Adel's eyes flicked back and forth between the metal man and the attack on the city he was just trying to help.

It took him a split second to figure it out. The first wave had been fought off, and this was to split up the three fighters, or make them die protecting the city so this asshole could have free reign with his low-rent shoggoths.

As if in response to the attack on people that had already taken to much aggression from so many directions, energy surged inside of Adelaide. A cold sensation went through his body, erasing any sense of weariness he may have previously been feeling. His senses were honed to a razor's edge, balanced on a combination of pure, unblinking rage and a sense of his own inferiority. It was a heady mix, rife for making horrible mistakes.

Adel caught the small bean tossed to him. Master Roshi had explained senzu beans to him before, but this was the first time he'd actually seen one before. They were unremarkable. With a shrug, he slipped it into his pocket. He'd probably need it, maybe a few times over, by the end of the battle.

He took a deep breath as Chishan disappeared, and settled into a loose fighting stance, shifting his weight from one leg to another. Wrenching his arm back Adel popped his shoulder, and looked to Roland. "You would not believe just how ready I am right now," Adel growled through clenched teeth, "Let's teach this guy a thing or two about internal bleeding."

Roland rolled the little bean in his fingertips. The same thing had healed him before, when one of the hounds had bitten him. In fact, it had completely removed the wound on his leg as well. No doubt the little things had great healing powers. That meant only one thing, that Chishan wasn’t expecting Roland and Adelaide to win. He slipped it into a pouch on his belt.

The Avatar of Wisdom almost laughed. Chishan had business of his own to attend to. Whether or not Roland could really beat this alien warrior, he had no idea. But, he wouldn’t stand there and let the fight be decided before it had begun.

"Avoid their teeth. They can paralyze you if you get bit. Dispatch them quickly and then focus on the machine,” Chishan said. "You won't be alone."

With that said, Chishan was gone, the image of where he once stood breaking apart into fragments of light. Roland took a deep breath, drawing back the frog that swelled at the back of his throat.

”My daughter is in that city. Protect her Chishan. Give it all you got,” Roland said under his breath.

He had the utmost faith in Chishan’s abilities. He had seen them first hand and felt the depths of his power. The Saiyan warrior had more power in his right arm than Roland did in his entire body.

Maybe even that was an understatement.

"You would not believe just how ready I am right now," Adel growled through clenched teeth. "Let's teach this guy a thing or two about internal bleeding."

Roland could see that he was nearing. So close now he gazed upon the alien’s gray face. He had a rough visage, covered in scars and white stubble. Long white hair billowed behind him. The armor he wore did in fact look mechanized, but there was no doubt that the overwhelming mana he felt emanating from him meant that he wouldn’t rely on the armor. No, it was topping on the cake.

Both of Roland’s knees felt weak. But, he didn’t let them shake. His entire body was locked in position, the massive Father of Sword resting at his shoulder.

”You might want to stand back kid,” said Roland.

Strands of golden light began to unfurl from Roland’s feet, swirling through the air around him. They merged above his his head and burst into a blazing aura. The ground beneath his feet shook, starting with a low rumble. The wheat fields around them swayed outward, like ripples on the water. Pebbles and bits of dirt shook and began to defy the laws of gravity, rising up on the pressure of his mana.

“A little further,” Roland said.

The Avatar of Wisdom didn’t know where his friends were. But, out there he knew that Walid, Lysses, and Elric were engaged in important matters. He stood as the lone Avatar of Zaun in this battle, their representative in the defense of Earth. But, he could feel their presence with him, a sensation of providence.

My strength is yours alone, Roland, the voice of Talos, God of Wisdom resounded within his mind.

Yeah, let’s do this together then, Roland replied.

Bolts of electricity danced and skipped off Roland’s aura and both of his eyes turned bright crimson, burning like hot coals within a furnace. His aura expanded until it was a billowing flame of its own, rising towards the blue sky. The ground beneath him dissolved from the pressure of his aura, widening out and sinking into a crater.

The alien warrior in the shiny armor stopped at the edge of the crater and drew out a long metallic shaft. Roland saw his thumb depress and from the top of it a fuschia blade of pure energy snapped to life, humming.

”I don’t know who you are, or what you want. But, you picked the wrong fight with the wrong planet,” Roland said.

The gray skinned alien only smirked and let out a low whistle. The hounds, all snapped to attention, their snouts snarling, low hisses coming from clenched teeth.

”Kill them,” the alien said.

“Adel!” Roland said as he hefted the Father of Swords forward, lowering into his fighting stance. The runes on the blade were burning hot already, straight through the fabric scabbard he had slipped over it. He didn’t bother removing it, as he knew the scabbard wouldn’t last long anyways. ”I’m trusting you to keep those damn hounds off me. I’m taking this bastard down.”

And it began, the strange alien jumping into the air, bringing his plasma pike down in a thrust attack. Roland swung the Father of Swords to meet it. The two weapons clashed, sparks of fuchsia light and metal lighting up the air. Roland felt his feet sink further into the ground, the crater widening for a good dozen yards or so by their combined spiritual “weight.”

The two exploded in a flurry of blows. Roland swinging and parrying attacks, wielding the Father of Swords in a way that seemed to defy its great weight. But, he could already feel things going south.

I can barely see his movements. Damn just what is this guy.

He turned aside an overhead chop, only to receive a swift backhand to the face. The force of the blow sent him tumbling end over end through the air. Roland maneuvered and stomped both feet down, carving twin trenches as he skidded to a stop. He prepared for a counterattack, but the armored alien appeared beside him, the air displacing with a loud whoosh.

Shit.

The alien grabbed him by the face and flew forward, slamming his head into the ground and dragging him through the earth for at least a mile or two like that, leaving behind a huge scar in their wake. Roland broke through someone’s house, carved straight into a road, the asphalt splintering as it made contact with his face. He managed to roll away, skipping across the ground until he stopped, laying face first in the dirst.

The alien’s momentum carried him forward a good deal past Roland. He set down both boots gently, twirling his pike, back still to Roland. The plasma of the pike’s blade bit hungrily at the air, burning ozone.

Light filled Roland’s vision, slowly clearing as he clamored to his feet. The entire side of his face was torn up up by the attack. Blood leaked from the busted, rock embedded, flesh of his cheek. It splattered into the collar of his cape and down his chest.

”Your strength is admirable, comparable to a child of one of my people. How truly far the genetic tree has fallen. You rely on some other source of power as well? Draw from it. How interesting.”

Roland spat blood out and swung the Father of Swords forward. ”Shut the fuck up and fight me!"

”As you wish.”

Roland drew mana through his hands and into the length of the Father. The entire blade glowed bright gold, curling with bolts of electricity. He flew directly up into the air, letting his power channel. Wicked fingers of electricity scattered away from his body, reaching like grasping talons across the blue.

”I’ve only used this attack once before. On someone like you, someone who deserved death!"

Roland swung his giant sword once, an arc of mana materializing in its wake, frozen in the air in front of him. He drew the blade up the opposite way and swung it across the first arc, forming a second arc into giant golden X. With a flick of his palm, he sent the X flying at the armored alien. Roland was sure it hit, because when it made impact with the ground it dug deep, carving two massive canyons that crossed each other.

He didn’t like the idea of permanently disfiguring the landscape as he did. If he let the attack keep going, no doubt it might carve straight through the earth. So he dispersed the attack with a sideways swipe of his finger. No doubt it had done its job. If the alien had endured it for but a moment, he would be cloven into four pieces. Roland stared into where the canyons met, the veritable crosshairs of his attack, waiting and watching.

Had he done it? Did he win?

A glint of silver in the corner of his eye told him the answer. Plasma bit into his chest and he felt himself drop the Father. The blade tumbled away, landing blade first into the dirt below. The smell of burning flesh filled his nostrils and he realized that the alien had driven the blade straight through the left side of his chest and out his back. He tried to breath, but found his punctured and now cauterized lung not capable of drawing any air.

The alien stared at him with blue eyes, The bluest of eyes he ever seen. They matched the sky, but there was a dark sadness in them, a loneliness that threatened to suck Roland in like a pit.

No. Not like this. Not yet.

Roland felt his fingers curling around the grip of the Son, the dagger at his hip. He drew it and shoved it underneath the alien’s arm, the thin blade sliding between the plates in his armor. Roland saw the lonely eyes go wide with anger. The alien withdrew the plasma pike and drifted back. Roland couldn’t keep floating any longer and tumbled downwards, landing on the scorched ground beside the crossed canyons.

The alien landed beside him a heartbeat later. ”That blade, it was poisoned.”

Roland tried to chuckle, but the only thing that came out was ragged wheeze. He dropped the Son, trying to find the pouch with the magic bean in it, his fingers fumbling. He hadn’t cleaned the dagger as good as he thought he did.

”Suit, initiate self healing module,” the alien said, and Roland heard him fall to one knee.

Get him Adel! Now’s your chance, if you’re still out there.

The Saiyan Inferno
In the thicket of the energy battle, Chishan's power was climbing. His aura not only encompassed the entirety of the city's center but it was slowly spreading in every direction. The beam that was erupting from his hands grew with his power, its crimson column smashing against the one coming from the stars.

His teeth were grinding against one another as he funneled more of his latent energies into the attack. He was successfully keeping the blast back but it was laced with something. Some underlying energies were feeding it, as if it was boosted by something else. It wouldn't be impossible to configure; there were many hidden artifacts that could work with one's natural energy and amplify it. If that was the case, he was in for quite the battle. But he had his orders; he couldn't let Roland down. The older man and the kid were out there, fighting against that mechanical abomination right now.

In truth, he believed that their wills and determination could overpower any force. Humans and other beings alike had shown him that for years now. But it was quite the uphill battle. No, he believed in them. And he believed in the help he had sent their way.

But he had to stop playing around here. The brief images of Roland and Adelaide fighting flashed in his mind and, to make matters worse, the briefest of visions of them defeated. The very thought drove his energy wild and his aura flashed brighter and wider, swallowing up the entire eastern section of the city. His pupils seemed to glisten brighter before they faded just a bit, almost engulfed by the white background of his eyes. His muscles bulged even larger than their normal ascended forms, swelling like balloons being filled with water. In the valley between his forearm and his bicep, tiny lines began to form across his skin. As his emotions began to go wild these began to take shape, almost looking like tiny scales...

He roared against the screaming of his Kamehameha and fueled nearly double the energy he had been outputting before. A visible wave flew through the beam up towards its head, causing it to swell even larger. And then...it began to push the other attack back towards it's home...

Posted Image

Meanwhile, a figure came soaring in from the south. It's feet slid across the ground right next to Roland and two arms reached down and grabbed the fellow, pulling him from the ground. As the dust cloud settled next to the new arrival, the saiyan's eyes settled on the injured enemy while holding the elder man in his arms. Apio had arrived.

"Look like this is one tough customer." He muttered softly as he stared at the white-haired man. Then his eyes quickly darted to the Zaunite in his arms. "You okay, old timer? That looks like a painful hole you got in your chest." He made it sound much nicer than it looked; the enemy's blade had gone completely through the front and out the back of this particular man. The weapon had cauterized the wound but no doubt it would have nicked some organs on its way through.

"Chishan tells me to hang back, let you guys handle the situation. You'll forgive me if I couldn't help myself to joining." He said softly, laying the man down on the ground. His pupils flickered to the small pouch around his waist and dove his hand in it, hoping for a miracle. And he found it in the shape of a small bean. He pulled it up in front of him and grinned at Roland. "I trust you know what this will do for you. Eat it quickly so you can get back into it." He placed the healing object in the man's palm, in hopes that he would take it sooner rather than later.

The younger brother of Chishan rose to his feet again, turning around to face the opponent. His gaze turned to the boy that had arrived as well, the other ally that was meant to help this one. In a bright blast of energy, the younger saiyan ascended to his False Super Saiyan state, pale white eyes staring at the human.

"So how about it, kid? Why don't we kick this bastard's ass?"

“Adel!” Roland had said, ”I’m trusting you to keep those damn hounds off me. I’m taking this bastard down.”

Adel understood that sort of sentiment perfectly. He wasn't at the mindless rage he'd gotten to in other fights, this was different. He was still thinking perfectly clearly.

Keep the hounds busy, huh? Adel thought, Yeah, I can do that...

With a small release of energy, he shot himself through the air towards the first hound. It seemed startled by his sudden burst of speed, and didn't teleport in time. Adel pulled back a fist and thrust it forward, catching the monster squarely on it's armored skull. The force of the blow sent the creature skidding back across the ground and it crashed into another member of the 'pack' of hounds, knocking it over.

That action seemed to act as a lure. At once each of the monsters drew it's attention to Adelaide. Well, at least I'm keeping them off Roland, Adelaide thought wryly. The young warrior had always wondered how he was going to die. He just hadn't expected it to be this soon, and at the hands of an interstellar pack of feral dogs.

Death had to wait, however, as he still had a job to do here. He kicked off the ground, flying into the air. While over the pack, he began charging energy into his hands. Adelaide had kept away from using this move, lately, because of it's rather large energy consumption, but he figured that if there was a time to go overboard, it was now. The monsters looked up at him with their odd, featureless faces. Adel grinned back down at them as he released the energy into a swarm of glowing spheres over the pack, hurtling down to the ground and detonating. The series of explosions kicked up dust and debris, which temporarily obscured his vision.

When the smoke cleared, Adel felt a strange shift in the energy he had been sensing from the pack. Unthinking, he dodged to the left, narrowly avoiding the hound snapping at him as it fell from above. The beast had teleported to above him, understanding that he wouldn't expect it. Okay, so they're smart, Adel thought, Not an ideal situation. Adelaide had some techniques, though, that he was beginning to think would be useful in this situation.

Adel lightly touched the ground, the pack reforming in front of him. A few of them were sporting new injuries, and for that he was glad. Any advantage he could get was one more step to avoid death. With a small smile, Adel pulled again on his internal wellspring of energy. Two Adelaides leapt out of his spot, both moving towards the closest hound.

The creature dissolved in a glowing cloud of energy, the self-defense mechanism of teleportation still intact. Both Adels ignored the now-vanished monster, and instead ran past the residual energy to the next hound, who was unprepared for the change. It swung it's tentacles at the Adel to the left. Instead of making contact with skin, the stingers passed through the energy illusion. The real Adelaide struck hard, ki-enhanced fists slamming into the beast's midsection and head. The blows knocked it up off the ground, and Adel took advantage by grabbing one of the creature's back legs.

Lifting off the ground, Adel pulled the creature into the air with him. It didn't teleport, although it did try to strike him with the tentacles. Adel didn't know if it was too stunned to teleport, or if it couldn't do it while he was holding onto it. It didn't matter. Once Adel got to a satisfactory height, he began spinning around. The momentum forced the tentacles, as well as the snapping teeth, away from Adel's grasping hands.

The sky blurred in Adel's vision as he spun faster. When he started to feel his grip slipping, he knew he was going fast enough. The young fighter turned himself horizontally in the air, changing the spinning of the monster to a more vertical circular motion. With a snap, Adel released the hound, sending it rushing towards the pack as great speed. Before it could hit the ground, Adel drew both of his hands next to him, saying the words of his newest technique, the one he'd had to prove himself to the Turtle Hermit to get to teach him.

"Kamehame-HA!" he yelled. He wasn't trying to pull all of his energy into the attack, just enough to keep it cohesive. A beam of brilliant blue energy shot after the falling hound. The monster struck the ground with enough force to make an impact crater, the shock wave knocking over the closest of it's pack. A second later, the energy attack slammed into it, detonating.

Adel was unprepared himself for how strong his attack would be. It was really the first time he'd ever used it seriously. It had drained him more than he was expecting, but it was still easily manageable. The shock wave from this attack was much larger than the crashing monster, blowing rocks and chunks of earth even to where he was in the air. Adel tried to raise an arm to shield his eyes, but realized that the arm wasn't responding to his command.

The young fighter looked down to the offending limb, to see that there was a small red scratch on the wrist. He hadn't even felt it. It seemed like the shallowness of the injury had slowed down the paralytic effect. With his other arm, he scrabbled into his pocket to pull out the senzu bean. It's restorative powers would be the only thing to counteract the monsters' toxin.

The pocket the bean was in was on the same side as Adel's now numb arm. This made it surprisingly harder for him to take it out of the pocket. As he struggled with his rapidly becoming unresponsive arm, he started to lose control of his ki. Slowly, but with greater speed, he started to fall out of the air. The wind rushed by his head as he fell, willing his dulled fingers to answer him.

Finally, there was success. His degrading limb managed to pull the bean out of his pocket. Unfortunately, that was just in time for him to hit the ground. The bean wrenched out of his fragile grip and went into the air. With all of the control he could bring to muster, Adel pushed himself to the side far enough for the small green bean to fall into his open mouth. Chewing was harder than it had ever been for him before. He didn't even feel the small plant slip past his tongue, and his vision started to blur.

He laid there for what felt like an eternity, but what couldn't have been longer than several seconds. Finally, his vision cleared. Sharp pains in his arms and back let him know that the feeling was coming back to his body. He had narrowly managed to avoid a death from suffocation.

Adelaide wasn't out of the woods yet, though. A hound came into his field of vision. It appeared to have been just on the cusp of the kamehameha's radius. Half of it was scorched, armored plating missing in spots. The tentacles on one side had been burnt off as well, giving the entire creature an uneven, lopsided look. It was stumbling over to where Adel was. The young fighter idly noted that, even injured and with half of it's face melted off, it still could easily tell where he was. Good to know..., Adel thought.

The beast reached for Adelaide with it's remaining two tentacles. Not trusting his reaction time, Adel decided to reach deeper into his bag of energy-based trickery. From his shoulders erupted two additional fully-formed arms. Normally this technique was used for attacking, but he figured that no one would judge him for adapting it. The arms grabbed the tentacles, yanking the beast over Adelaide. With a concerted effort, he planted both feet on the hound's midsection, gathering a small amount of energy as he did so. "Detonate!" he gasped out through clenched teeth. The ki obeyed his command, exploding forcefully into the belly of the beast as he pushed it upward. It flipped into the air and landed out of Adel's range of vision in a sickening thud.

More confident, now, in his limbs, Adel scrambled to his feet. For a moment he stood there, unsteadily, and took stock of the situation. The pack had taken the Kamehameha poorly. They were laying all over the crater where the attack had struck, some moving, some not. Adel's eyes scanned the battlefield, looking for the armored man and Roland. His interaction with the hounds had only been for maybe a minute, tops, but when dealing with superhuman fighters, that might as well be a fortnight.

With distress Adelaide finally saw the mechanical man. He was standing over Roland, but there was someone else there as well. A young Saiyan fighter, who seemed familiar to Adelaide for some reason. He was cradling Roland, and gently laid him down.

The shock of seeing Roland in that battered state brought Adel back to the anger that he was starting to get used to in combat. The red-hot fire that fueled insane acts. Roland was an incredible fighter, and wasn't even intoxicated today. There wasn't supposed to be anyone who could take him down on this planet, at least not easily. He stared down the back of the power-armored alien, and just barely caught the newcomer's words.

"So how about it, kid? Why don't we kick this bastard's ass?"

Adel grinned savagely. Reaching inside of himself, he tore off the last limiter to his power, and brought it's full energy to the surface. Sure, he wasn't to the level of Chishan or Roland, but he was stronger than all but maybe twenty of the people on this entire planet. And this shiny asshole wasn't going to forget that. Adelaide brought his hands together once again at his side. Master Roshi, time to really test your training, he thought. "Gladly."

Where the last attack has been a trickle of energy, this was, comparatively, a rushing torrent. Adelaide pushed as much of his own power as he could into the attack he was creating in-between his fingers. A white crackling aura of power gathered around the focal point, sparks shooting off. A wind was whipping up, tossing Adelaide's hair and blowing loose debris away. The ancient words that the Turtle Hermit taught him came to his lips, slowly, each syllable seemingly another tier to the power within in. "Ka...Me..." With the first two, the light of the attack began to show from Adel's closed hands. The young fighter's feet sank into the dirt as the ground began to collapse around them. The energy was destabilizing everything in his immediate vicinity. "Ha...Me..." The light emanating from Adel's palms was so strong now that his fingers cast a shadow on the side of his head.

"HA!" The final sound of the technique was also the trigger. Upon uttering it, he threw his hands forward and outstretched them at his opponent. The energy he gathered shaped itself into a shining white-blue beam of pure power. With a roar like that of a cannon, it shot from his palms. As it flew over the ground towards the armored alien, the ground beneath it tore up and flew to the sides. It looked as if a great hand was clearing the path for this attack as it streaked, screaming, towards Adelaide's enemy.

The drain was potent. Adelaide immediately felt like the life had been sucked out of him, and let his arms fall to his sides. Gritting his teeth, he started running after the attack, and leapt into the air. Even if the Full-Power Kamehameha did nothing, he'd still get his licks in. His knuckles popped as he drew back a fist, and yelled defiantly.

"Wolf Fang Fist!"

Gadr couldn’t believe he had been so careless with his attack as to leave open the weak spot in his armor. Of course, the orange haired warrior had taken advantage of it and shoved a dagger into his ribs. The blade hadn’t gone deep, just a minor cut, but much to Gadr’s dismay it had been still coated with the blood and venom of the Whisper Hounds.

The paralyzing agent coursed through his body and he could barely keep himself floating on his own ki. He let himself drop, landing beside the battered body of his opponent on one knee. That side of his body went numb first.

”That blade, it was poisoned,” Gadr said. His opponent merely gasped for air on a burnt lung. He could see him struggling on the ground. He wouldn’t be much more of a threat. In a few minutes, no doubt, he would die. The same might happen to Gadr if he didn’t neutralize the Whisper Hound poison now flowing freely through his veins.

”Suit, initiate self healing module.”

He heard a low whirring sound inside of his armor. Medicines were injected directly into his flesh, but they would take time to counteract the poison and restore him to full strength again. Until then he remained in his position. The lower he kept his heartbeat, the slower it would spread. He focused on that, just breathing, loosening the grip on his plasma pike as he did so.

"Look like this is one tough customer,” a new voice said. Gadr had sensed the newcomer coming far before he arrived. Looking out of the corner of his eye, he could see it was another Saiyan warrior. Much like the one currently dealing with the Epsilon cannon. "You okay, old timer? That looks like a painful hole you got in your chest."

Dammit, he’s going to heal that fighter. If it weren’t for this poison, I would kill him and finsih that other bastard off.

Gadr felt a ki signature rising and he pivoted his body, enough that he could see the other kid, the one that had been dealing with the Whisper Hounds. Somehow, he had taken them out and now charged an attack that no doubt he would release on Gadr.

Gadr stood as a mighty beam erupted, flying straight for him. He put his arm out as it slammed into him, engulfing him, and carrying him a few hundred yards. Mustering strength, he swept his arm sideways, yanking the beam and sending it careening into the crossed canyons the sword-wielding warrior had created with his attack. There the beam exploded. Shards of superheated rock rained down all around them.

"Wolf Fang Fist!"

The kid unleashed a flurry of blows. It was everything Gadr could do not to retaliate. He had to keep himself calm. Just summoning enough strength to turn that beam aside had already slowed the medicines work against the poison in his bloodstream. Each one of the young fighter’s strikes battered his armor. The chestplate stoved inward, a pauldron was knocked loose and sent spinning across the ashen ground. He caught a fist to the face, jerking his head back, along with spittle and blood. Gadr gave ground, stumbling backwards.

“Insolent human, you’re going to have to do more than that to stop me. I am Gadr Noth Zeluge, greatest of the Thirtheen Warrior-Saints of old. Nothing will stop me. The Reclamation will happen and this planet will be converted into a Star Forge, to rebuild our interstellar empire and give rebirth to my people,” Gadr said and spat out blood from his mouth. “If there wasn’t poison in my bloodstream right now, I would tear off your head and stomp it into mush.”

The Saiyan Inferno
Apio knew how important it was to attack a foe when you have the upper hand. And nothing was better than outnumbering your foe two to one. But in truth, the saiyan was curious about this boy's power. He seemed eager to fight the armored being.

So he let him.

The saiyan stood there, on edge but not moving to join in the fray. If there was one guaranteed thing he had learned from his brother, it was that emotions can make or break a fight right from the start. But this person seemed to be so focused on punishing their enemy, that perhaps Apio would only get in the way.

His power was impressive, his energy fuming off of him like a kettle at the boil. A breath of silence must have passed before the human unleashed a powerful beam of energy, chanting its name just like he had been taught. The saiyan warrior knew this attack well; his brother had utilized it many times against him in training. In fact, he was sure that the beam battling the space attack was another version of this.

But the silver-haired man thrust his arm out, grabbing a hold of the head. It pushed him several yards away from his original position but in the end, a sideswipe from the limb sent the blast careening off and away. As it exploded, a shower of dirt, stone and grass fell upon them all in the area.

But Adelaide wasn't done; he summoned up the strength to charge forward and begin a hasty physical assault. The enemy had expended some of his energy and simply was not ready for this, his body jerking around violently from each strike. Pieces of the armor were knocked away, bouncing and rolling on whatever green still surrounded them on the ground. And then the alien spoke, barking down at the human like some piece of trash.

"Old sure is right," Apio said as he was reappearing behind the silver-haired mech-warrior, his leg already cocked back as he materialized. It snapped forward in a vicious kick for the man's unarmored head. Whether it connected or not, the man's other leg met the ground and pushed off once more, sending him flipping over his opponent. Two blue-green beams of energy rocketed off the spinning form, arcing down towards the man's already weakened mech.

He landed on the ground hard, skidding slightly on the dirt. But he pushed himself forward, thrusting punches towards any piece of armor, hoping to get the same result the kid had gotten. "I don't know or care what this 'Star Forge' thing is but I sure as hell am not going to let you change this planet into one. So go ahead and try for our heads. I have no doubt we'll be able to pulverize you. And besides..."

"You forgot about the swordsman over there that has just eaten his medicine."

Posted Image

The beam battle was won. Chishan's tremendously powerful 10X Kamehameha had torn the Epsilon Cannon's blast to smithereens, ripping it apart like a child with string cheese. As it belted up towards the heavens, it was in direct trajectory with the ship above...

But the super saiyan suddenly reappeared in front of his own attack, summoning even more of his energy out from his form. With a thunderous roar, he unleashed another beam about the size of a tractor trailer. It crashed into the heart of the Kamehameha and ionized particles met with similar particles. Moments later, the beam went critical and exploded in a brilliant red detonation, momentarily creating yet another bright star in the sky.

But Chishan had already teleported away, instantaneously in fact. His senses had spread to the stars above and he found quite the impressive power level hovering just above the atmosphere of Earth. As his form reappeared in front of the Lost one called 'Hodr', his aura surged around him and cold, emerald eyes stared at the alien.

"Lucy, you've got some explaining to do," Came his quip; yet his rendition of a classic, hilarious one liner couldn't have come out any more sinister or cold. No...

The Saiyan Inferno was pissed.

Adelaide's arms burned with exertion. Hitting this tin man was akin to slamming his fists repeatedly into a particularly stubborn wall. Even with the dented armor, even with the strange blood his enemy shed, he could tell he was doing minimal, at best, damage.

That was it. Suddenly Adelaide had clarity. It was the chime of a bell, casting away shadows.

The human race, indeed, every race that had power had a certain trait. This was what had led to them dominating their respective planets. Normally, this trait decreased over the span of a species existence, but the constant strife throughout the galaxy had kept it, in fact increased it's power over time. This trait, in the races that ruled the stars now, was honed to a razor's edge.

Adel felt infinitely more confident. It was logical, almost amusing in a way. This being in front of him, he of the vast, incalculable power, was missing something that every species damn near took for granted.

It was at this time that the other fighter attacked the armored alien. His form was immaculate, smoothly transitioning from one attack to the other. This fighter didn't radiate the raw power Roland or Chishan did, but there was skill and grace. That, and he was stronger than Adelaide, but then again, most beings were.

It was time to talk a little smack.

With an almost easy smile, Adelaide faced down this impossible ancient being. "Gadr Noth Zeluge, Thirteenth Warrior-Saint of old. You will not win today. Or tomorrow," Adelaide calmly, "I didn't understand it before now, but it all makes sense. The way you talk, the way you move. You are possibly one of the most powerful beings I have ever directly encountered. And your loss here will be pitiable, even counting for the poison."

Adelaide started to walk forward slowly. Although he had been previously healed by the magic of the senzu bean, his limbs still wanted to respond sluggishly. He had been wantonly consuming his reserves of energy for this fight, throwing around more power than he ever had before. His steps were confident, though, arms swinging slightly at his sides.

"You lack conviction. All that power, and there's no passion. You're probably using the same techniques you've had for centuries, yes? 'Tried and True' methods?" the young fighter chuckled, "I'm not an experienced fighter. Sadly, this is the truth of the matter. I'm probably the weakest one here. But even I've learned something about my power. Call it ki, call it mana, call it straight-up magic, call it whatever you like. It is conviction that lets you surpass your limitations, lets you tap into levels of power you didn't even know you possessed."

"You don't know that anymore, do you? What it's like to struggle? To have to believe in yourself because there is literally nothing else in the Universe that will? To throw everything you've got up against the wall and rely on what sticks? My name is Adelaide Peters,"
Adel clapped his hands in front of him, and drew on his energy again. His reserves were flagging, but he counted on having enough to do this.

As previously, two fully-formed arms erupted out of his shoulders. This time, he readied them for their original purpose, that is, the striking of obstinate enemies. As an added bonus, he sent energy into each fist. Charging a limb with energy was a pretty basic move, even with GROWING TWO NEW ARMS WITH ENERGY ALONE, but Adelaide wasn't finished yet. Each limb took a position in the Wolf Fang Fist.

"This is my insignificant power, backed up by my conviction. My passion to win! To grow, to become someone and something new! Gadr Noth Zeluge! YOU ARE OBSOLETE!" With that, Adel called on his superhuman speed for the first time this battle, and vanished from view. He reappeared within punching distance of the power-armored old one, and threw his fists forward.

Best speech of my life Adel thought as the distance closed, Too bad he's gonna laugh, kill me, and leave my body in a ditch. The thought filled Adel with a perverse glee, and he grinned savagely.

Gadr sensed the new arrival move behind him before his suit’s built in ki detector had. It lagged behind his keen senses, which had been honed over hundreds of years of training and warring. Where he might have retaliated swiftly, landing a killing blow. He did nothing. Not with the venom still being battled by the nano-machines within his blood.

Just how strong is the damn venom from those beasts?

His head jerked hard to the side and despite the weight of his armor he was sent spinning through the air by the kick. He turned his body, managing a shoulder roll. He skidded some distance before coming to a stop. His gauntleted hand gripped the dirt and he felt himself clench with anger, crushing stones and pebbles into sand under his strength.

Rising to his feet, he saw two beams of energy headed his way. He brought up the his plasma pike, depressing the trigger. Fuschia energy erupted from the tip of it and he swung it around, turning the entire thing and his arm into a blur. The beams hit the spinning weapon and were deflected aside, exploding beside him.

"I don't know or care what this 'Star Forge' thing is but I sure as hell am not going to let you change this planet into one. So go ahead and try for our heads. I have no doubt we'll be able to pulverize you. And besides… You forgot about the swordsman over there that has just eaten his medicine."

This new warrior’s punches rained down on this chest plate. Already caved in from the previous warrior’s blows, it broke into splinters exposing his chest, which took a heavy strike and knocked him back further.

“Pitiful! I am sick of your pitiful attacks.”

Gadr spit to the side as the other warrior approached again. He wasn’t really listening, not clearly as the warrior spoke to him, chastising him for following old ways and not progressing his fighting style. He proceeded to sprout two new arms, of which Gadr had no doubt he intended to pummel him to death with. He might have laughed, even cried of laughter if it were not for the severity of the poison hampering his being. The nano-machines were offering him little reprieve and each exertion he made brought him closer to paralysis. True paralysis would leave him vulnerable and these rats would devour him, after all.

“I’m glad your realize your own insignificance,” Gadr said in response to his speech. “Now, if you’ll do me a favor, die!”

As the fighter closed the gap, both of Gadr’s eyes glowed a bright crimson and a second later two lances of pure ki shot forth, attempting to pierce through the four-armed warrior’s chest and out the other side.

***

Roland got to his feet, his vision blurry. A moment ago he had been dying, hadn’t he? The world spun around him as he regained his balance and his memory. The alien, was he still alive? As his senses restored, he felt his presence, still a omen of power, still close by. Turning around he witnessed upon a scene. Adel moved in for an attack and the alien’s eyes glowing bright red with power

There was a third warrior, and for a moment Roland thought it was Chishan. But, he realized that even though his warrior resembled him, he clearly wasn’t the same person. There was little time to mull that over, because Adel was in mortal danger.

In a blur of motion, Roland dashed forward and swung his arm. He let loose a concussive blast of mana. The air itself thrummed with the force of it. The blast was directed straight at Adel, with enough force to knock him off course and hopefully save his life from the eye beams.

Whatever the case, Roland just hoped the new Saiyan would use the moment to launch a strike. The alien clearly was vulnerable while he fired the beams.

***

Hodr stood with his arms folded behind his back, both of his silver eyes watching the monitors. It seemed Gadr had once again overestimated his own abilities. The swordsman had stabbed him. From the vital signs on his suit, no doubt it had contained Whisper Hound venom. The problem was, the self-healing protocol of the suit, the nano machines, would never be able to counteract the poison. It was only a matter of time before he succumbed to paralysis.

Sure, the swordsman had recovered from the bite that had been delivered to him, but that had been by some sort of mystical means. Hodr didn’t have enough data to determine how, or why, but the golden Saiyan had fed him something that completely restored his vitals. That same thing had happened just a moment ago, while the swordsman lay with a hole in his chest. Now, he appeared to be standing up.

Hodr frowned. Somewhere he had miscalculated. The defenders of Earth proved to be far more resourceful than he ever imagined.

The overhead monitors were blaring, red flashing on the screen, indicating that the Epsilon cannon’s blast had been turned aside. Hodr had expected that though, as it had been part of the plan to lure the golden-haired Saiyan away from the battlefield.

And, it appeared said Saiyan was headed his way. As if Hodr’s thought summoned him, the Saiyan apperaed within his ship, standing in front of him. The pressure of his ki felt crushing and Hodr found that he took a step back and a deep breath. Both of his emerald eyes were full with savage rage and Hodr doubted that he would be walking away from this encounter. That is, if he didn't do something.

He thought for a moment if he could fight he Saiyan and decided against it. While Hodr wasn’t a slouch, he had spent far more time developing his cerebral capacities and scientific knowledge than fighting skills. That put him at a distinct advantage. His research indicated that Saiyans spent their entire lives fighting, giving them a high aptitude for the martial arts.

"Lucy, you've got some explaining to do," the golden-haired Saiyan said.

Hodr didn’t respond to his strange inquiry. Instead he reached to his forearm and tapped a small module on his wristband. Metallic plates began to unravel from his back, covering his face and his exposed flesh, locking into a helmet and gauntlets, as well as sealing his ankles. A pressure suit, in an instant. Hodr then pointed his finger to the wall, the hull of the ship, and unleashed a bright azure beam. It smashed into the wall of the ship, punching straight through it. The compartment decomposed violently. However, Hodr had magnetic boots that kept him planted firmly on the deck. Air rushed in a powerful torrent out the hole. Everything that wasn’t bolted down also went tumbling out. If Chishan wasn’t pulled out into space by the torrent, he would still be in an uncomfortable situation.

“Rapid decompression isn't good for the body. You Saiyans are resilient, but you won’t last--” Hodr’s voice faded with the last of the air in the chamber.

Everything fell eerily silent.

The Saiyan Inferno
Apio was fairly surprised by the sudden attack from the silver-haired warrior, duel eye beams puncturing the air and making their way right for the human. He might have reacted in time if he had been on guard but his pride had blinded him. He was so sure of the success of their combined assault that he hadn't even prepared himself to defend. His body jerked slightly, attempting to budge from his spot to protect his ally...

But he saw Roland finally getting to his feet and moving, obviously more ready for the attack than he was. And that, in turn, opened an opportunity for the transformed saiyan to attack their enemy.

He spun on his heels, his muscles bulging and his aura flaring. He rocketed forward like a launching missile, a streak of golden light following after him. He came upon the armored man in a breath, his body tensed and ready to strike like an asp. His arms launched themselves forward together in combined front punches, aimed for the now bared chest of his enemy.

He followed up as fast as he could with another attack, bringing his knee up towards the groin. He wasn't entirely sure this being had a groin to speak of but if it landed solid, it would still cause some damage to the patch of skin.

He glanced up at the man, his lips parting to reveal a sinister grin. But his teeth were glowing; flames lapping at the white enamel. As the pearly gate was parted, the powerful plume of fire launched itself forward, taking careful aim to funnel towards the bare chest in front of him. It would sear, it would melt, it would blacken. And, with any hope, it would boil this man's pale skin like an egg on a pavement.

But just in case that didn't do the trick, his arms were still poised in front of him. As his fists unfurled themselves, his palms were full of glowing blue energy. He released the dual energy beams yet again, hoping that the close-range would remove any chance of his defense from before.

Apio couldn't help but grunt; he was exerting a lot of energy really quickly. He could feel his inner pool beginning to dwindle. Hopefully the other two had kept more ki available for use; he had a feeling they would need it.

Posted Image

The Lost known as Hodr sure was jumpy. All it took was the Saiyan Inferno appearing for him to react in possibly the most erratic way possible. His body became engulfed by metal plates, clanking together to seal any holes and air pockets near the alien's body. In seconds, he had completely transformed from his regular outfit to a fully-initialized pressure suit. But why would he do such a thing as that? Well, the answer to that came faster than he expected.

A thin azure beam exploded from the man's hand and ripped right through the far wall, puncturing the metal and their own protection from the absence of air. The room was thrust into chaos as soon as it was breached; objects from every side flew through the air and exploded out of the hole, sucked out by the sheer force of nothingness. It seemed like the alien had gotten the drop on the saiyan...

And yet, he stood firm.

It must have been an interesting experience to see the glowing saiyan planted on the deck, his clothing and hair whipping back and forth as the air left the compartment. His eyes stayed focused on the man, whose brazen words ended when the entirety of the room had been depressurized. A menacing silence carried over the chamber as the saiyan stood there.

And then he spoke.

The mic on his scouter crackled before his voice began to carry over the lack of air. "That is a very impressive way to handle your opponent. Reckless I'll admit but I'll give you points for creativity." He still didn't move his feet but his hand came up and tapped the side of his scouter, a small yellow button near the rear of the device. As it was pushed in, the area around his head shimmered. Seconds later solid mass began to materialize out of the nothingness; hard metal that had been forged together. It covered the entirety of the saiyan's head and interlocked down under his jaw. A breathing apparatus was attached over the mouth and a pressurized lens over his emerald eyes. It was a helmet.

"You see, despite what many people say about the Damaskians, they do have some of the best military technology. And their Shadowguard armor is some of the best. Its self-analyzing, connecting with one's scouter to adjust and work during combat. But at the same time, it runs a cloaking device that removes the armor from sight. As you saw, I looked as naked as a common man. But in fact, I have a full set of Damaskian armor on. And the beauty of its communication with my scouter is its scans of the decompression cabin. It managed to engage its zero gravity protection, sealing the ports and powering up the air tanks. Granted its only a limited amount of time...but its enough to get my message across."

He smirked inside his breathing mask. "As for why I wasn't sucked out...well, that's a bit trickier. I didn't have much time to react when you fired that beam. In fact, I had no time. So I did the only thing I could do; I telekinetically grabbed onto the floor below us and anchored myself against it. Sounds crazy I know...but I am the living proof."

He brought his hands together and cracked his knuckles together inside his gloves. "Now as lovely as this was, I've grown tired of speaking through my mic. So instead..." He bent down slowly and let his gauntlets touch the metallic ground below. And then using the same technique he had used to get aboard the ship, he instantly teleported himself and the ship down into Earth's atmosphere.

It wasn't very far; a couple hundred miles down to the planet's mesosphere. As sound once again entered the cabin, the saiyan's helmet flickered and returned back to its stealth form. Chishan panted slightly; he had used a good amount of energy in a short amount of time. First the beam battle then teleporting twice. It was beginning to wear on him.

But his fists curled tightly against his palms as he glared at the man. "Tell me who the hell you are and what you're doing here before I pummel you into dust."

Adelaide had felt very good about his position in the battle so far. He was doing some impressive things, actually managing to stand on, however briefly and in an extremely limited way, the same tier as greater warriors like this new Saiyan and Roland. It was a good feeling.

The minute relaxation was probably what caused him to drop his guard, if only a little bit. Long enough to only see the energy beams as it became 'too late'. Even with superhuman speeds, Adelaide was sure that this was one of those things he couldn't dodge. It certainly didn't help that he was speeding towards the attack.

That was a problem of Adel's. It was too easy for him to just rely on being decently sturdy and charge foolishly straight at his opponent. About half of the time it ended with Adel punching his enemy. The other half his enemy punched him. Maybe this would be the thing that broke him of that habit.

Adelaide tried to twist his body in midair as much as he could before the attack struck. It was still going to hit him, but if he was lucky he could keep from being 'shot through the heart'. (Pun only tangentially intended)

Luck smiled on him this day. The two narrow beams of energy narrowly missed his chest, instead piercing into, and through, his right shoulder. The pain was excruciating, and the force of the attack knocked him out of the air.

He landed hard onto the rocky earth. The collision sent spasms of agony ricocheting all throughout his body. He laid there for a moment, then struggled to get up. Ass soon as he tried to put weight on his right arm it buckled underneath him, and he landed on his back again. Son of a blue eyed Sebastian sheepherder! He thought painfully, went through the damn bone...

Panting, Adel took stock a quick personal assessment. His has used up most of his energy, his right arm was useless, and it would take days before his personal ki stabilized enough to use his best techniques. Note to self, study more ways to attack at a distance.

Staring at the sky, Adel raised his left hand, pointing a single finger straight up. "You, Sky Armor Alien, are an asshole," he said between breaths. He then lowered his hand, taking aim at Gadr's head. A labored effort fired a simple energy wave out of his palm. It wasn't a kamehameha, but it would have to suffice. Adel then rolled onto his good arm, and pushed himself up.

Using his flagging ki, he slowly rose into the air. Thanks to his new wound, which was constantly reminding him of it's presence with new bouts of agonizing pain, his flight speed was established as 'wobbly'. He uprighted himself and touched down lightly on his feet. With his remaining useful arm he took up a defensive stance.

He was hurt, had lost the use of an arm, and felt like someone hit him with a Mack truck. Didn't mean he was down, out, or going to give up any time soon.

Gadr fell to his knees, smoke curling up past his face. Whatever was left of his armor had been reduced to scorch scraps, ribbons of it falling off of his body onto the ashen ground. His plasma pike fell next, clanging beside him.

Their attacks had hurt him, no doubt, his face and upper body were blackened and burnt. But, he knew that he could take a lot more and still keep on trucking. If it weren’t for the poison sapping at his strenght. With his armor practically annihilated the self treatment of nano machines shut down and now the poison took over.

Everything felt strangely numb, and he felt so relaxed, so tired. Maybe he would drift to sleep, a nice rest. The battle had been taxing, hadn’t it? All he needed was a little sleep.

No! he thought, his mind fighting against the lull.

With all the strength he could muster, he reached to his battered arm panel, flipping it open. Some of the suit happened to be still operational. WIth a slowness he managed to tap the self destruct sequence.

If he was going to die anyway, he decided he’d rather go out with a bang. The suit made a loud shrieking noise as it activated. Bolts of electricity surged out of open wires, wracking his body, but he didn’t care.

“Die, all of you rats!”

Instead of exploding outwardly, the suit began to collapse in on him, Gadr let out a bloodcurdling scream as his body was condensed down into a fleshy ball and pulled into a miniature singularity. The earth came next, being pulled towards the “hole” in space-time with such force that it crushed all down to single atoms to be consumed.

A crater spread out in all directions at a rapid pace as the Earth was devoured.

The sky as well was drawn into the singularity wit titanic force, the air roaring as if a dozen hurricanes had started up in that spot.

”Shit!” Roland said, his voice lost int he sound. He was suddenly jerked forward by the immense force of gravity. He felt his jaw set and his muscles tense. The new flesh, still healing on his chest, where he had pierced, pulsed in pain. No doubt it would be tender for a few days, but the feeling of it made his eyes water.

His ally’s attacks had been successful, there was no doubt about that. Roland had been glad that he didn't cleaned the Son of Swords well enough, because it had been the alien’s own beasts’ poison that took him down for good. Roland had thought it was over as he fell to both knees, but it appeared it wasn’t enough. The alien warrior still had enough time to activate some sort of bomb built into his armor.

Roland had expected a huge explosion, as most bombs did. But, instead, this bomb exploded inwardly, pulling everything with it into a singularity. Like some sort of tiny black hole. He didn’t know how long this rift in space-time could hold up, but it seemed long enough to devour most of the area around them and start to tug Roland in as well.

The other two, Adelaide and the Saiyan that looked like Chishan, were in danger of being sucked in as well. Roland knew that Adelaide had been injured by the alien, and without a doubt his mana reserves had been drained. That meant he was especially vulnerable to being devoured.
R
Rolad let gravity pull him towards the maw, the air whipping so loudly in his ears he couldn't hear anything. As Roland neared it, he activated his aura, which burned bright gold, and shot sideways towards Adelaide. Such a feat wasn’t easy, and he paid for it dearly, being pummeled by debris the entire way.

Finding Adelaide, he reached out and put one hand on the kid’s shoulder and they both disappeared, leaving behind a burst of light. A few moments after they disappeared, the singularity closed in on itself, disappearing. Whatever debris that had been pulled toward it fell clattering into a giant hole that spread out for several miles in every direction, as well as downward. Air came rushing back into the vacuum it created, roaring with a deep thunder.

Meanwhile, in same instant they disappeared, the two warriors had re-appeared middle of the street. They were in Central City, near the sandwich shop that he and Chishan had visited before this invasion.

Roland fell over, onto his side. The street was empty, as most people had fled when a giant beam from space threatened to level their city. The entirety of his body battered and beaten by the torrent of earth and atmosphere he endured to save the younger fighter.

”I know this is cliche, but I’m getting too old for this shit.”

”Dad!”

It was Ruby, Roland’s daughter. She came running out of the sandwich shop and to his side. Roland managed a weak look of relief. She helped him to his feet.

”I wonder how Chishan is doing,” was the only thing Roland could say.

***

"Tell me who the hell you are and what you're doing here before I pummel you into dust," the Saiyan said.

Somehow, he had moved the entire ship into Earth’s atmosphere. Air came rushing through the hole in the deck, filling the chamber in an instant. It had been a tactical decision, but it seemed that this Saiyan had far more up his sleeve than Hodr could account for. He hadn’t done his homework, not nearly enough, before planning their assault on Earth. A rag-tag group of fighters had stopped them. Hodr almost felt embarrassed.

On his HUD, the vital signs of Gadr went out. It also seemed he had initiated the void bomb on his armor. Part of Hodr wished that his enemies had been sucked into it, but the other part didn’t. If this Saiyan found out his comrades had been sucked into the void, no doubt he would take his frustrations out on Hodr for being the one to design such a horrible weapon.

“Very well,” Hodr said and tapped his wrist module again. The helmet and gloves retracted, and the fresh Earth air filled his nostrils. It smelled good, reminding him of home. He wasn’t nearly as sentimental as Gadr had been, but it still brought back fond memories of his youth.

“A scientist must admit when he was wrong, and in this case I underestimated your capabilities,” Hodr admitted. “So, that being said, I am no warrior with suicidal tendencies, I surrender.”

He put both of his hands up, his face displaying no emotion, just a stony expression. Even if, deep down inside, he felt a measure of disappointment and failure.

“My name his Hodr Noth Variz,” he explained. “I am a member of an ancient race that existed thousands of years ago. Your people know them as the Lost. Me and my comrade were placed in cryo-sleep to ‘travel’ into the future so that we may resurrect our race to face the coming darkness. The same darkness that destroyed us, those eons ago,.

“You may not know this, but this measly planet Earth is sitting in the center of a junction, where hundreds of ley lines, from all across the galaxy, all intersect. That means it has an immense amount of arcane energy, latent, within and across the body of the planet. This makes it a perfect subject for the creation of a new Star Forge. We meant to convert the planet’s physical material into a Star Forge through a powerful terraforming device known as the Miracle Stones. They would allow us to not only rebuild our technology and great fleet, but also let us give birth to life as well, bringing our people back from oblivion.”

The Saiyan Inferno
The world around him suddenly jerked forward and then the great suction began.

Apio had been close enough to the man to see the defeat in his eyes, even if he was horrible burned and scarred. They had managed to break through his powerful armor, tearing it to shreds and spraying it over the remaining ground. The younger brother fell a few steps back as the alien fell to his knees, the saiyan's chest heaving. The man, the enemy that had come from the sky to create havoc on them, had given up.

"Sorry buddy, but you probably should have planned better for this." The worn saiyan said, moving over to pick up the pike the man had fallen. He walked around in a circle away from the man, looking over the weapon carefully. He jerked his hand to the side, holding the weapon out to the side. It didn't turn on, of course; he had no idea how to turn it on.

But he could still ram it through his thick skull.

He came around to stand in front of the Lost, a good seven yards between them. As his eyes came around to settle on his target, he noticed that he had moved his finger around to touch his arm plate. His brow furrowed and his grip on the pike tightened. What the hell had he done?

His answer came a second later.

A high-pitch whine pierced the air, loud enough to shatter glass and send dogs running. He snarled and fell back a few more steps, his face contorted in pain from the loud noise. Through his clenched vision he could barely make out the sparks that erupted from the man's remaining armor and stabbed into him, clearly shocking him to the core.

He said something in his dying moments. But Apio couldn't make it out because of the shriek. But no doubt it was something about damning them to death along with him.

And then reality tore apart.

The singularity was seemingly born from the alien's torso, pulling him in first. His body bent and curled around it like silly putty around a ball. His screams were over matched by the birth of the wormhole but the sight of him being sucked into it was not. It was grotesque...even though it lasted barely a breath. And then he was gone, allowing the portal to open further and begin its quick suction of the world around it. The ground tore up from its resting place and disappeared into the void, trees were yanked from their roots and pulled in and even the clouds above bent down to join the fray.

He attempted to keep his ground but that same ground betrayed him, disappearing below his boots to disappeared into the singularity. He turned on his heels as best he could and then summoned all the energy he could manage, thrusting it behind him like a jet. He rocketed forward...yet, he didn't.

He must have been moving, but it only seemed to be a few feet. He didn't dare glance back, afraid that his momentary lapse of focus would be the end of him. His eyes locked onto human boy. He was injured and must be low on energy. He had to get to him!

But then Roland was there, making his way to the boy. He was covered, Adel was covered and Roland was moving. There was no reason to stay here any longer. With a screech, his body fell apart and his after-image was sucked into the void.

He reappeared several yards away on the tip of a building, grabbing hold of the roof's edge. He glanced back over his shoulder, seeing the void. It had expanded quite a bit but as his eyes settled on it, it seemed to have settled on its position. He pulled himself up onto the roof and watched the singularity continue to pull in the world around it. He glanced down at the pike, still clutched tightly in his hand. It was the last remnant of the Lost known as Gadr. The younger saiyan could only wonder how his brother was doing...

Posted Image

Chishan stood carefully as the alien unraveled his armor from his form. As he rose up, the saiyan's muscles flexed once in preparation for a retaliation. But when his enemy's hands came up in the well-known signal for surrendering, he relaxed his tension.

He remained quiet as the alien, naming himself as Hodr Noth Variz, explained his story. His brow furrowed as the being called itself one of 'the Lost' and that they were frozen to fight an oncoming darkness. Even more curious was his explanation of Earth's position, lined up with the ley lines of the universe. And they wanted to create a 'Star Forge' out of the planet.

He frowned. "Many would be quick to shoot down your words. But given the power and technology you have, it's hard to argue against. All this talk about Miracle Stones and Star Forges seems a bit above my head, given that I'm just a lowly saiyan. On the other hand, you've threatened the livelihood of this planet and its inhabitants."

Emerald orbs flickered to meet the alien's gaze. "I understand your dilemma. It is hard, to exist while the rest of your species are gone. I don't know what I would do in the same situation; maybe I would rationalize it as you and your friend did. I am sorry for your loss, by the way." He quickly mentioned, having sensed the massive power below on the planet disappear in a flash. When Hodr had surrendered, his senses had spread down to the world underneath to check on his allies. From what he could tell now, they were all alive.

"But you both attacked this world, sent beings down there to paralyze and kill its inhabitants. You should know that when you fight against nature, it will fight back. You're old enough to understand that and, as a scientist, you should have considered that. But I'll lecture you no more." He waved his hand in front of his face. "I couldn't allow you to wipe out the life on the planet. I'm a pain in the ass in that way. But I do have some questions for you. Hopefully, as a reasonable man you'll-..."

The power that exploded out of his neck-worn amulet shook the ship so tremendously that it even surprised the saiyan. As the bright light dissipated, his eyes began clear...

And standing on his right side, completing the triangle, was Archonias. The white-haired being stared hard at the super saiyan with its pupil-less eyes. They held a fury that he had not seen the ethereal deity harbor before.

”No questions, Chishan. Kill him now and be done with it."

Ever have one of those days where it seems like everything that can go wrong does go wrong? Adelaide Peters felt like that was his MONTH so far.

Here he was, beaten, battered, bruised. There were holes through his right shoulder, rendering that arm useless. He was facing down the equivalent of a demigod who, even poisoned, shrugged off his best attacks like they were a particularly annoying fly's bite. Sure, he wasn't alone. There were some powerful fighters on his side, and they'd all taken their fair share of licks. But why was HE the one with the holes in his shoulder?

That's all I'm saying, really, he thought bitterly, Spread the carnage out a bit. I know, I mean, I talk a lot. And that talking is probably what made him focus on me. But COME ON!

So Adelaide was surprised when the self-destruct mechanism went off. Instinctively, he threw his good arm up over his face, and grimaced in pain shortly thereafter when his screwed-up arm didn't respond, instead sending angry messages of pain to his cerebral cortex.

There was no shock wave. Instead, Adelaide began to feel a pull. This pull didn't just affect him, as he could see chunks of earth being torn out of the ground. Some of these battered into his injured body as he struggled to remain upright. It seemed like the whole world was being pulled towards the armor, which had coalesced into something that had his head hurt to look at directly. It was nothing. He was staring at nothing.

God, that's the thing, what's it called? A black hole! Oh, shit. A black hole.

This would have been a situation which would have involved Adelaide blasting away from this at the highest speed his power level could muster, but his accumulated injuries prevented that, along with the bone-deep weariness he felt at he present moment. He bent his knees and planted his feet firmly, settling his meager weight to the best of his abilities. If he was going to die here, he was at least going to look decent doing it, no crying or begging.

That was when he felt a grasp on the back of his shirt, and sensed the energy of the alien Roland. THANK YOU KAMIKAI! Adel's eyes squinted at a flash of bright light, and suddenly the pull on him ceased. There was a rush of air, and Adel was falling.

Luckily, a telephone pole was there to break his fall. He slammed into the unyielding wood and hit the ground in an unceremonious heap. He tried to stand back up on his own, but his body wasn't having any of that. Thankful to no longer be in the thick of battle, he gulped down lungfuls of air.

"I...I'm just gonna lay here a bit. We, we won, right?"

"I couldn't allow you to wipe out the life on the planet. I'm a pain in the ass in that way. But I do have some questions for you. Hopefully, as a reasonable man you'll-..." Chishan said, interrupted by the sudden appearance of some sort of apparition.

”No questions, Chishan. Kill him now and be done with it,” the strange appiration.

Hodr let out a low sigh. “Well, I did surrender. You life is in my hands. I couldn’t defeat you even if I wanted to you. Your power far surpasses mine. Even your friend, the swordsman, would have been a challenge to me, in a fighting scenario.”

Hodr turned, facing the gaping hole in the side of his ship. A gentle breeze passed between the bent and scorched hull plating, passing over him, ruffling his hair. He had come so far. In his perspective, after being frozen, he had been hurled forward in time, eons into the future. There he had spent years researching what had become of the galaxy. He waited and watched patiently, only discovering Earth the past week.

It had been such a gem, an opportunity he couldn’t let pass up. He rushed into it, headlong, ambitious. He even woke up Gadr, because he knew of the strong warriors that protected the planet. But, he had been a fool for not spending more time, not planning and plotting a method that didn’t require genocide. The planets defenders had risen up like anti-bodies, directed at the noble goal of thwarting his plan.

He failed and it was too late to salvage the operation. Hodr accepted his fate, if the Saiyan chose to take his life. But, he wouldn’t just stand there and not try and keep it. For another chance at a future without darkness.

“If you do kill me, it may be a mistake. I have knowledge of things and technologies that your people wouldn’t ever dream of. I can be a help. After all, I have much to repent for. But, it’s up to you, Saiyan warrior.”

***

”Yes kid, we won. At least, as far as I know.”

Roland set his giant sword down on the sidewalk and limped over to Adelaide, who had not been fortunate to land gracefully. The kid looked battered, beaten, and over all he was a few waivering heartbeat’s away from death. But, Roland knew that he more than likely had more vitality than that left in him.

Scooping him up under his arms, he dragged him and lifted him into one of the sandwich shop’s patio chairs. Fishing into his pouch, he pulled out the tiny bean that Chishan had given him and offered it up to Adelaide.

“Eat this bean kid. It tastes like crap, but trust me, you’ll feel a thousand times better.”

His daughter Ruby walked up, on his flank resting her hands on her hips. She overlooked the battered kid and then looked up at her dad, thin eyebrows furrowing. She then punched Roland in the arm. He winced, as it flared up the pain of his battered body.

”Why’d you let this happen to him Dad?”

”What!? You should have seen me, I almost died. This kid fought like a champion,” Roland said and smirked at Adelaide.

”Your other friend saved the city from a giant light. What is going on Dad? Was it more of those guys?” Ruby said, pointing to a heaping pile of Steel Legion corpses stacked up in one of the collapsed building lots.

Roland shook his head. “No not them, aliens.”

”Dad, aren’t we aliens?” Ruby said.

Roland perked his eyebrow. He had spent so much time on Earth he never even thought of it that way ”I guess we kind of are.”

The Saiyan Inferno
Chishan did not move. He didn't even blink. He just kept staring at Archonias. As Hodr began to explain the situation, including his own helplessness against the Saiyan Inferno. As he moved into his usefulness and the abilities he could bring to the table, the saiyan's gaze shifted slightly to look at him.

But the deity was quick to pull the attention back to him. ”Chishan! Do not stay your hand for measly begging of this fiend. You have victory, now destroy him!"

The emerald orbs seemed to flicker with anger, followed by his sneer. "For what purpose? He has surrendered without a fight. Despite what he has attempted to do, he is willing to share knowledge with us and repent. And there is no reason to kill needlessly."

”Reason?!" The ethereal being roared taking a step forward. It's form seemed to glimmer from the movement, losing its opaque features.

The amulet's captive was losing patience in a way the saiyan had never seen before. He knew there was some underlining emotion of distaste towards the Lost when he first met Varos in the water temple. The ancient gods together had demanded he not ask questions of the Lost, leaving the subject completely unknown and yet, more interesting.

Now there was a full fledged Lost before him and Archonias was demanding he kill him. There was something here, something darker than he had first imagined.

"You saw me during the war, Archonias. You know how many men I killed on Valhalla and Arlia. And you're connected with me; you're synced with my emotions. You know the dark place I was in and how much it took for me to take lives there. Now that I've redeemed myself and have taken on the personal quest of reviving the Avatars of Justice, you ask this?" He paused, seething through clenched teeth. He didn't care if this damned him in the eyes of the god. "This man is a prisoner, if only to answer for his attempted crimes."

The Archon's energy seemed to rise, despite his translucent display.”This man is a monster! The Lost are a plight that needed to be extinguished from the universe, for their kind attracted the darkest beings known in existence. The Avatars did what they had to, what they could, against the impossible odds. And my race fought as well. Many died; more than your tiny mortal mind can possibly comprehend. And it was all because the Lost believed themselves as gods, standing above everyone else. They barely understood the gravity of their audacious beliefs. And the universe paid dearly for it." And, in a surprising turn the saiyan could never have predicted, a small trickle of tears came down from the deity's eyes.

Chishan stood there for a moment, letting the gravity of the deity's words connect with him. Then he spoke. "I'm sorry, Archon." He said, shaking his head slightly. "But if everything you say is true, then it's even more important he stays alive." He pointed at Hodr. "He knows what this 'darkness' you both speak of is. And I need to know what that is so I can prepare this universe for it."

Archonias sighed gently and turned his head away, his eyes full of sadness. ”You speak the truth, at least some level of it. I...am sorry." And then he disappeared back into the amulet, being sucked through a vortex.

Chishan rested his hand gently on the piece of jewelry, fighting the urge to summon the deity back. Kais, he felt guilty. But he had made his decision and he believed in it.

His eyes snapped back to Hodr. "Consider yourself my prisoner, Hodr Noth Variz. You will redeem yourself by sharing your knowledge, assisting my allies and helping to protect this universe."

He glanced around the ship. "Now stay here. I can think of two people that might want to get caught up with the situation."

With a loud screech, his form disappeared from the spot he was standing. And it reappeared right between Adelaide and Roland. As he reappeared, he fell to one knee and hissed. "Wasting too much energy." He breathed heavily before he got back to his feet. "You guys look beat. And I don't think a sandwich shop is going to refill that energy quickly." He commented, looking at the storefront they were in front of.

"Anyway...how about I get you caught up with the situation? Take my hand and keep calm when we arrive." He said, holding out his right hand for them to grasp. When they finally made connection, he quickly brought them back to the ship to appear before Hodr.

The ride never ends...

Adelaide didn't know where that thought came from, but he found it unusually appropriate. He was glad that he had stopped assuming he could have a normal day, or he'd have been incredibly disappointed.

Get Super Powers, Adel thought, Fight aliens! But, then, I've been fighting on the sides of aliens, too... The thought of Roland and Chishan being aliens was a bit of a disconnect for Adel. There really wasn't much physical difference between the races, even accounting for most Saiyans' tails. They didn't even need the tails, and could remove them with little damage, it seemed. He thought of them as human until something jarred him out of that intellectually lazy notion.

You people take all the fun out of speculative fiction.

Getting handed another senzu was a freaking godsend. Adel managed to grab it with his good arm and pop it into his mouth, the slightly acrid flavor relaxing him with the knowledge that healing would come soon. Sure enough, his body began to knit itself back together, and a rush of energy filled him. He managed to flex the fingers on his bad hand with only a twinge instead of mind-numbing agony.

At least it was over. The battle was hard-fought, but they managed to stop any civilian casualties, and prevent yet ANOTHER invasion of Earth. Adel was starting to think he should invest in a cape and tights, what with all the world-saving he'd been a part of in the last few months. He knew how to crochet, but for some things it still seemed to be better to outsource the more difficult pieces. Besides, showing up with an afghan for a cape was potentially not the best idea he'd ever had.

Potentially super-heroism was forefront on Adelaide's mind. This kept him from noticing Chishan until the Saiyan warrior had grabbed his sleeve.

The young fighter was not prepared for the flash of light and whoosh that accompanied teleportation. He clasped his hands to his eyes. "Sweet KamiKai my eye holes!" The shift in gravity made his stomach lurch, and he doubled over with a groan. Squinting his eyes, he pointed at Chishan "You. I hate you and everything you stand for," he said in a rough voice.

Eventually the contents of his stomach stopped protesting, and his eyes adjusted to the light level. Blinking several times, he took a look around. A tremendous sci-fi nerd, he immediately recognized the bridge of a space-ship. The large hole blown in the hull with a view of the planet helped support that idea. There was someone (presumably another alien) with his hands in the air as a gesture of surrender.

Adelaide looked at Chishan again, straightening up. "What, is this where Implody Armor Guy came from?"

Hodr stood staring out of the gaping hole in the side of his ship. As he waited for the brief moment for Chishan and his allies to return, he could see the nanomachines starting the self repair process. They bubbled and swelled, like some sort of liquid metal on the wound, slowly moving forward. With such a large puncture in the hull of the ship, the self-repair would take days, but eventually, it would seal back up, almost as nothing ever happened again. At that point, Hodr could leave the atmosphere again, and head back into space. Until, then, he was marooned on Earth.

The three warriors appeared within the chamber behind him. He clasped his hands behind his back as he watched the clouds drift past, puffy white upon a field of azure blue. Far below, he could see rolling green and brown lands, separated by deep blue, almost black seas. Plenty of vegetation and life, a planet that teemed with it.

"What, is this where Implody Armor Guy came from?” one of them said.

“Your world is beautiful,” he said in a low voice. “I am ashamed I was so hasty to transform it into a Star Forge.”

He cleared his throat. “As far as the Mark VII armor, yes it does come with a self destruct feature. But, it was imperative that none of the armor remain, so there is nothing better than a micro-singularity for remedying that. “

Hodr went on to explain their plan, how he intended on converting Earth over to a Star Forge due to its location at a nexus of galactic ley lines, making the world a prime spot for powerful beings and creating cosmic level technologies. The energy itself, although latent, if drawn upon far surpassed that of even a thousand stars. Such power would help him revive his race and give birth to their technological wonders once again.

This was all in preparation to face a coming darkness. “It is hard to explain our enemy, so I shall simply show you instead. This footage is from a battle on Artios XIV. You may know it as Kelioux.”

In the center of the chamber a holographic display flickered to life, showing a three dimensional slice of an event.

The recording started with a verdant field, dozens of soldiers in armor just like Gadr’s, standing tall, various energy weapons in their grip. When, the sky itself started to distort, pull inward. A rift broke upon, spilling out vast amounts of radiation in the form of light and heat, flames spreading across the sky, hungry for oxygen. From the rift dropped what looked like a black liquid, but as the liquid hit the ground it started to take shape. It seemed to mimic the warriors, forming into humanoid shapes like them.

These glossy black obsidian soldiers charged forward, clashing with the other warriors in a violent heated battle. Explosions flickered across the field of battle, warriors weaved arcs of blazing plasma as they attempted to slice and slash their way through the dark beings. As the dark beings fought, they broke into shards, which turned into liquid, only to reform a few moments later. It ended when a Lost warrior, his armor busted and broken, his body on the verge of collapse, flew into the rift and detonated his self destruct feature. The singularity set off, consuming all on the battlefield, even his own allies, and the Rift shut closed.

Hodr let out a low sigh. “As you can see, the enemy is perpetual as it is resilient. It had created a major rift, one that spilled out into the space. Imagine an ocean of darkness, at the fringes of known space. We found it on an expedition, but it captured the science vessel. Once absorbed out technology, it learned about us, and our dominance over the known galaxy. With knowledge, it started to spread out to consume everything in it path. Soon, dozens of our worlds were under siege and many fell to the strange darkness, including our home world, Artios XIV, and many others. We managed to close the major rift in the end, to seal the darkness away, but we feared it only served as a setback. No doubt if it drilled its way into our universe once, it can do so again.”
