The Saiyan Inferno
|
The dust was still settling from the loud and explosive entrance of Chishan and the receptionist to the lower levels. Concrete dust billowed into the newly exposed floor, temporarily blinding the frightened scientists from the duo. Chishan continued to hold the girl down, despite her trying to wiggle out of his grip. Through the parting of his fingers he could see her eyes staring back at him, still with a cold emotionless gaze. “So you keep the upper levels empty to keep up appearances and work in the secret lower levels. That’s a pretty legitimate strategy. Keeps up public opinion while providing cover for your more…frowned upon testing.” The saiyan remarked, looking around at the dissipating clouds. As his pupils moved back to look at the woman, he saw that the blue of her eyes had given way to a bright red. Instinctively, he leapt back as the thin beams of energy exploded out right where his head had just been. He slid along the tiled floor, slightly amused at this woman’s resistance. She swiftly rose from the crater her body had formed, standing up with her arms at her sides. It was then he could see the damage done to her from their fall; her clothes were tattered and barely hanging from her form. But what intrigued him more was the fact that her skin on her arm seemed to be hanging as well. She noticed his gaze, glancing down at the appendage. And then, just as cold as the rest of her, she took hold of the fleshy flap and peeled it off of her to reveal a metallic understructure. “An android…” He said softly, finally understanding. No wonder she was so emotionless. Hell, during their fall she had simply struggled against his grip rather than show any sign of pain. “I am Model YX-687, the new generation of android.” She stated matter-of-factly before she suddenly rushed forward, her arms snapping out to jab at him. He met her head on, blocking the strikes away while holding his ground, their physical battle practically a blur as she struck and he defended. She was cold, calculated and precise. He had to match her in strength and strategy or she would tear him apart. “That’s a bold statement. What makes you think you’re the new generation of android?” He asked in the midst of the flurry, twisting his body slightly to avoid a front punch and unleashing a side kick in retaliation. “I am the new age. I was created following the procedures of Dr. Gero and Dr. Hathaway. I am the perfect synthetic.” She said, taking the counter attack in stride and knocking it away. She then pushed harder against him, her attacks becoming more forceful and quick. His attention was piqued now. “Hathaway? How the hell did you get blueprints to Hathaway’s designs? They were destroyed when the Steel Legion’s network went dark.” He continued to weave away from her attacks, now more interested in what the underlying story was than her assault. Apparently she had no problem revealing information. Either she had deigned him worthy of such information or she believed she could kill him before he ever leaked it. “Actual blueprints were not found. But my creators gathered numerous deactivated RBC units so as to replicate the process. Five Control Units were acquired and broken down to study. Once complete, they merged data to create a new synthetic being. Me.” Well…that’s not good. As far as Chishan knew, many of the Control Units that hadn’t been vaporized had been confiscated and, more likely than not, destroyed by the ruling governments. The only one he knew that was still tangible had been Helios and it was still locked away inside his ship. His brow furrowed, leaping away from her to get a bit of breathing time. “What about the Dragonballs? I tracked them here to this building. What do your creators want with them?” Her head cocked slightly, as if to say ‘You mean you don’t know?’ “My design was not perfect. I am not perfect. My creators wish to gather the Dragonballs to wish back someone that could make us perfect. They wish to reanimate Unit Five-Thousand, formerly human ‘Rondown’. With his knowledge of the Steel Legion network and its models, he could create a new army of units for profit.” She moved to attack again, done with explaining the situation to this lowly saiyan. But she had no idea what her words had meant to him, he that had seen Rondown’s destruction first hand. As her foot fell for the first step, his aura exploded out from him like gasoline on a fireplace. As her readings attempted to recalculate, she found her form suddenly engulfed by physical strikes from the now hyper-powered super saiyan. Her blue eyes looked up at his and found no pupils, just empty white space that seemed to radiate fury. ”You idiots want to bring back that madman?! After all the loss and devastation he caused this planet and to the universe, you want to give him another chance to repeat it all again? Just for money?!” Rightfully it was not the android’s choice to do so but she had been programmed to follow through on her creator’s orders. His righteous fury just targeted the closest thing worth punishing. Her hand wrapped around her neck, literally engulfing the entire foundation. He had grown suddenly; his muscles nearly double the size they had been before. He was nearly seven feet tall now and markings near his elbow joints had popped to the surface of his skin, looking more like scales than skin. With strength that superseded his normal super level, he squeezed his fingers tight against her synthetic skin. The metallic foundations underneath cracked, wires were cutoff and energy began to fail. For the first time, he could see fear in her eyes. And he felt something underneath, embedded deep inside her head. It wasn’t a processor. No…it was a mind. A human mind. And that’s what pulled him back. He let her go, causing her form to drop to the ground. He stumbled backwards as his body returned to its regular super saiyan form. He looked down at her as she struggled to her feet. “You’re human.” She seemed surprised by the statement. “False. I am Model YX-687. I am the epitome of android ascension.” “No…” He said softly. “I could sense it in you. Thoughts, like a human mind. You were a human once. You still have a human brain.” She continued to resist. “False. I run on a processor like any other android. I…am an android.” Her voice seemed to quiver when she repeated herself. Her eyes looked from side to side, as if they were taking in the information and actually processing it. Whatever the difference, the tension in her body seemed to give way. He bent down in front of her. “What happened to you? What did these scientists do to your body? You’re more machine than human now…” He said, looking at the sparking cracks near her neck. She stared up at him, emotion rippling through her like a wave. It was as if the veil had been lifted and the animatronic features melted away. Tears, actual tears, began to form at the base of her eyes. “I lived in South City. I remember…bits…pieces. I remember a machine…a Steel Legion robot grabbing me, squeezing me. Everything went white. The next thing I remember, I was waking up on an operating table. People in white were all around me, talking to me. They were saying something about programming me and then…” She trailed off as the first rivulets of water fell from her eyes. She looked down at the ground. “I don’t remember anything else. Why can’t I remember anything else?” The rage inside the saiyan seemed to flare up again, though it was targeted at the corporation now. He leaned forward and touched her shoulder. “You’ve gone through an ordeal. Your mind was probably broken repeatedly by the scientists so they could brainwash you. Your memories were probably repressed.” She was breaking down in front of him, her entire body shaking. She cradled her skinless arm like a baby. He had destroyed the programming that blinded her but now as he looked at her, he could see that he had shattered her as well. Part of him regretted it; what could she do with herself now? “Your name. Do you remember your name?” She looked up slowly to meet his gaze. “Pamela…I used to be Pamela.” He leaned in closer. “You are still Pamela. Whatever those scientists did to you…whatever they made your body, you are still you. You still have a human’s soul.” He reached down and touched her metallic arm. “Whatever is underneath is simply foundation. It keeps you moving, keeps your active. But nothing can rob you of your being as long as you’re alive.” He spoke out of experience, after having been with Rubic for so long. He had seen the boy trapped inside the machine, seen him come back to the surface with his very eyes. No matter how hard one tried, they couldn’t take the soul out of the equation. Maybe that was part of Hathaway’s plan all along. He couldn’t tell if his words reached her or not. She seemingly just stared back at him, attempting to process the words. Then her face hardened once more. “You said something about the dragonballs. You’re looking for them.” He nodded. “Yes and you said they have them here. They’re trying to wish back Rondown.” She shook her head sadly. “You can’t let them. If they bring him back, it’ll put the world back in the same spot it was months ago. Somewhere deep inside I knew it was wrong but I just kept driving forward, listening and following the orders that were given to me. I couldn’t help myself…” “You were trapped inside. You can’t blame yourself for what happened. All you can do is try to make things right. And the way to start is to help me get the dragonballs out of their grips.” He brought her good arm up, pointing to the room past the frightened scientists. “Down the hall there is a large vault. They keep them secured there. Security will be waiting for you by now.” As he prepared to stand up she grabbed a hold of his hand. “Please don’t let them succeed.” He nodded. He turned to face the door, his warrior-like features returning. As he moved towards it, one bold scientist moved in front of him. “Y-you can’t. We put so much work. We need to bring back Unit Five-Thousand. The company w-will kill us, kill our families.” The glare he drove into the man caused him to back down. “The company won’t be around long enough to even know what happened here.” “Because I’m going to tear it all down.” Aboard the Night Fury, the body of Helios was as cold as the space that surrounded the vessel. But deep inside its core, locked away in a tiny power saving node was the essence of the girl Haley. The poor young teen that had cracked and gone insane during the transformation into an android. She was huddled inside, rocking in a slow rhythmic back and forth. She had no idea of what had happened to her or how she had found herself locked away inside her. Safety protocols of the machines only activated in dire situations. Something must have happened to her body. She tried not to laugh. She couldn’t control anything inside here. She couldn’t even more her limbs. The girl’s soul was trapped inside her own vessel. But as she sat there, mumbling to herself of wicked charms and curses, she could just barely sense something. A familiar presence, an energy that felt warm and comforting. Mother. It was Mother. She giggled slightly. Mother was still alive. She had survived. That must have meant the Steel Legion won, right? Mother wouldn’t be alive otherwise. She would be looking for her, praying to find her sweet Helios. She needed to get a message out. Summoning whatever energy she could muster, she just barely managed to send out the weakest of signals from her cold, metallic corpse down to the Earth below. Her Mother would pick it up. Her Mother would rescue her. And then, together, they would make this world burn. WC: 2,081 |
