He had only been out of the factory for a little more than a week. Kage, an android of very low notoriety, with nothing but his ninja garb and a measley amount of zeni to get by with, had taken to wandering the streets of East City throughout most of the daylight hours. He was immersed now, somewhat, with the crime life of the city, and had already participated in a small number of robberies. It seemed the zeni that the android gathered from these jobs would help him get by. It wasn't that Kage was bad in nature. He was not. Though his mission that had been instructed to him the day he left the factory...it was not for a man with a faint heart. (Lucky for Kage, he was a robot.) His first priority was to establish himself and gain some power, but after that, his instructions were to infiltrate a clan of ninja assassins known as the Shadowfangs and dispatch their leader, a long with any other clan members that chose to try and get in his way. It was a task that could be put off for now but would have to ineveitably be confronted; Kage, already feeling he was good in nature and a believer in peace, was living under the impression that the Shadowfangs must have done something wrong...though no details on the subject were offered to him during his short briefing back at the shop. Anyway, peace was elusive. With his main mission currently an after thought, on this exact day, a Saturday, Kage was with little real direction. To establish himself and gain power; he would have to start with some "light" work, and that was why the ninja android was currently lurking on the rooftop of a tall building used for local business. He had a contact that was just arriving. The contact worked for the cities police force but did not arrive in uniform. He approached Kage somewhat hesitantly. "Sir," Kage spoke and turned to regard his approacher, deciding to be straight to the point. The android spoke with no accent and in clear English, but in a strong tone. "You are here to tell me about the Vigilantes Incorporated." Kage's only back ground was that he woke up in a robot factory operated by some shady organization and was given a mission to carry out. Thus far, it would seem his willingless to embrace this mission must of been part of his programming. Kage however, was an android that felt he was as good as human. Though he was entirely not organic, you would not know this from looking at him. It was something that perhaps could of been gathered from the fact that he had no power signature, but to the plain eye, Kage was as human as they came. Kage spoke to the man again: "Well, go on." "Yes." The man that had arrived to deliver information spoke up. "The Vigilantes. We originally thought they may of had good intentions, but their recent actions have proven otherwise. There's been a few bombings that we have good reason to believe they've been behind--and we received a tip just this morning regarding their next target. A local jewelry shop. They're going to blow the place up. If you're up to it, you still have a few hours to meet them there and try to stop the attack and apprehend some criminals." "And you're asking me to do what?" Kage questioned. "Cripple their entire organization in one attack?" That sounded something like the androids main mission, and it made the robot grin despite a minor amount of annoyance with the situation. "Oh, you just want me to try to prevent one attack from happening and bring some of the criminals in...I may be able to help you with that." Kage was silent for a moment and then went on to speak again. "Though, without even a single weapon to speak of...we will have to see." Kage nodded once and then began to levitate just slightly from the rooftop with his Hikou, turning mid-air to face his informant better. Kage spoke again: "Tell me then, the location of their next attack...and I'll go see what I can do about it, perhaps I can talk them down." Kage would have to keep such a strategy in mind. This proposed mission made the android think back to a conversation he had recent had with Master Roshi, in which his mentor had informed him that his power level was already high enough for the ninja to go out and do good things. It seemed the average human on this planet typically had only an extremely low power level. "Yes, yes." Kage's informant went on and pulled a piece of paper from his coat pocket. He also took a moment to put on his reading glasses. "Oh, dear. Uhm, sir. It seems I've made a mistake in informing you that you have a few hours. The organizations next attack should be taking place right about now." "What!?" Kage seemed to grow angry, but turned his attention away from his informant as a loud explosion could be heard in the distance. The ninja android looked over the ledge of the buildings roof, able to see a small cloud of dust coming from another building only a block away. Kage's anger would not subside just yet, but he would direct it at the attack and not at his shitty informant. "Well thank you so much, I'll just have to go and attempt to deal with this now." Kage commented, though clearly at least one bomb had already been set off. Kage jumped from the top of the building he was on, using his Hikou to quickly speed off in the air in the direction of the building that had been targeted by an explosion. It was a much smaller building--Kage saw that it was indeed a jewelry shop as the undercover officer had informed him. The android landed outside of the building and was immediately confronted by a small group of four armed men that seemed to be leaving the shop with large bags of merchandise. They were all wearing black ski-masks, but they stopped in their pace on their getaway vehicle now that Kage had revealed himself. "You'll stop what you're doing right now." Kage spoke immediately. "Return those stolen items, and report with me to the nearest police station. We'll need to know everything you know about the organization you're working for. If you refuse to comply, I will have to use force..." Though while using his built in Scouter, Kage found pretty much what he had expected...none of the men that he was attempting to apprehend had a noteworthy power level even compared to just his. "Oh, look, he says he might have to use force! Shoot this fool!" All four men aimed what seemed to be AK-47s at the android and opened fire immediately. Kage used his Hikou and a pair of speed teleports to avoid the shots and close in on the men, taking them all down with one sharp blow to the sides of their neck each. The android spoke again once all the criminals were on the ground and essentially disarmed. "Kage!" One of the downed criminals turned onto his stomach and crawled to the ninja, reaching up for his legs. "It's me, Pete! ...Remember, you robbed that bakery with me, man! Why're you doing this to us!?" "What!?" Kage responded. "Unhand me, now...and, uhh...robbing and bombing are two entirely different things! Someone innocent could get hurt, and think of the property damage...wait...I mean you must have me confused with one of your thug friends, I've never robbed a bakery!" Kage had to stop now and wonder if his position on this matter really had something to do with the small reward he could be collecting in exchange for his time and help. The ninja android shook his head at himself, and then quickly backhanded Pete away from him when the man wouldn't quit grasping at his legs. Just then, a second vehicle pulled up, and four more criminals in ski-masks quickly filed out of the car. All four of them were also armed with guns and were quick to open fire on the ninja. Unfortunately, in doing this, they also shot up the other criminals still laying scattered across the ground. Kage avoided fire by quickly jumping into the air, firing up his Bionic Punisher and using his eye beams, firing them on the car the new men showed up in. The vehicle exploded almost instantly, injuring the men and sending them running away from the android in different directions. Kage angered, unsure if he should allow these men to flee or if he should begin shooting them down. The android had noted that they had killed the other men, and this also seemed to piss the robot off. His first thought was to grab at least one of the fleeing men up and give them a Bionic Punisher straight to the face, but in the end he would simply watch them all run away while trying to calm himself down. "Peter!" Kage dropped to the ground and rushed to the side of his ex-robbery mate. Kage picked the body up only to discover that poor Pete was now riddled in bullets; dead. "Noo!" Kage was dramatic for a moment, and then dropped the body to the ground with a heavy thump and a simple shrug of his shoulders. "Well at least the loots safe, that's the important thing to take away from this." Kage went about gathering up the bags of jewels from the ground...he would have to take them with him and hand them over to the authorities, he assumed. Though the android found he was somewhat tempted to simply make off with the goods himself, he pinned it on something probably being wrong with his programming and then ignored the impulse. Four men were dead and there was nothing he could do about it...and in a moment of what he would have to guess was simply disinterest he let the other criminals that shot the men get away. Maybe he would have to try and track them down later, and see if they could give him any information about their own organization or the Shadowfang. The point was, it was not that he did not feel anything for the dead men...it was just that apparently he had decided there was nothing that was going to bring them back. Unless someone gathered the Dragon Balls and wasted a good wish on reviving some pathetic criminal...and that would likely never happen. So after the moment had passed the android reasoned there was little point in dwelling on the loss of those around him at that exact moment. They had all made their choices, anyway. The android took the recovered loot and went to return it to the proper people and collect his small reward. (WC: 1,850) |
