Yan sat absently in Master Roshi’s house, finding himself once more plopped on the man’s couch. The turtle hermit was proving to not be much of a master. His policy was continuous hard work would pay off, and Yan knew that much already on his own. They had some absent history together and he was determined to this time learn Sense from the man, since he was here. If he didn’t though, the old man was entertaining and he didn’t mind his antics that much. It wasn’t completely wasted time. The hermit knew he did not have much a passion for fighting as his normal disciples did. He also had his suspicions Yan might use anything he taught him for misdeeds, and not so small as stealing him dirty magazines. The master was not one of purely white morals but he was not a killer. He did not wish to see any of his teachings be used in death and so he tried to win Yan over to the side of mild mischief and good. Yan didn’t want to blatantly trick him. It would be nice to be accepted as he was, but however it worked, it would work. That’s how he operated.

He had known Citrine was working under the man as well, but he hadn’t seen her much, and wasn’t sure he wanted to, considering it might cause him to want to punch the pervy hermit in the face. She was a child! And a Kai! Maybe that was enough to get the hermit’s respect but he somehow doubted it. The man had said the day before to come here then, and that he was going to prepare a trial for him and another disciple. It would be funny if it was Citrine. Just absently thinking about the last master’s “trial” was enough to make him snicker. He had thought a bit about her since then, and it would be interesting if he could earn the girl’s trust. He wasn’t sure Tomoko was doing a good job of it, and he probably hadn’t helped with that. He wasn’t sure yet what the girl had to offer them besides filling Tomoko’s helping little girls fetish. He wouldn’t judge so quickly though, she could have many aces up her sleeve, or could eventually obtain them at the right time. People were interesting like that.

For now though, he simply had to wait for neither the Master or the second disciple had arrived.

Citrine had been gone from the island the entire day. It seemed that Yan was not the only one who noticed that Roshi was not very interested in training. It probably made her significantly more angry then it did Yan. Most of what she had learned there was the result of heading off into isolation to work for long periods of time alone. It hadn't been entirely fruitless thought. Her strength and constitution showed remarkable improvements from all the time she spent flying at any large rock formation she could and trying to put as bury her hand as deeply into it as possible. She could even split some rather remarkable ones now.

However, she had no illusion that this was a replacement for proper instruction. There was more to fighting then just learning to hit things really hard. Citrine realized that building up her pathetic body was a first step, but she would prefer to learn some kind of useful skill while she was doing it. Just because her body was tired and her hands had to stay bandaged, it did not mean she had no energy left to learn.

Eventually her hands could not take anymore and she decided to stop. The old man had wanted to see her about something. Citrine did not much feel like going, but just because he was a disrespectful person did not mean she would return that behavior. She was from a civilized place. Looking off in the direction of the island she blasted of hotly in the direction of Kame house not really taking care to conserve Ki. Last time she was beckoned to him he asked her to obtain some disgraceful material from one of the strange crowded cities that populated the mainland. She had refused for obvious reasons. Still, her patience was running short here. Tomoko had left her here to train, but she was certain that there was a better option on this planet. Better then the little pink house she was closing in on anyways.

Yan sat on the couch a bit longer. He lounged. He put his feet up. He laid down and stretched out over the whole couch. He curled up like a cat. He rolled off the couch. Time ticked forward and everyone seemed to be late. How rude~

Yan pushed himself to his feet and started to the door. He wouldn’t leave just then, but he did head outside into the warm sun. It was a pleasant day on the island, but he could see a storm in the distance coming in from the opposite direction of Citrine. It didn’t feel quite natural but he wasn’t quite sure what was causing it either. It was similar in ways to the storm he witnessed created by the powerful versus a simple meteorological event. Maybe someone was fighting again. Someone always seemed to be fighting lately. He couldn’t quite tell though but it felt off. It made in skin crawl just a little and reminded him of….Home?

His eyes were peeled on the dark clouds but he felt the change in wind closer and turned his head to see the little Kai’s approach. He brushed off the feelings and smiled, pleased to see the brat even if she was a brat. His role was not set to be the mean and condescending oaf this time, so he raised his hand in a wave. He seemed back to the way he was when she first met him. That easy to get along with man that he smiled to her meek wave and seemed nice enough. He leaned back against the door waited for her to land, his eyes turning back to the oncoming storm for a moment longer. Whatever it was was getting closer. It was possible that it was something meant for Roshi, or maybe something Roshi meant for them. Was the old man actually trying to make a real trial? It seemed unlikely somehow but the clouds continued to drift forward.

“Roshi’s not here yet,” he says easily once the girl was in range to hear. “Just us two for now.” He looked back to her with another smile this one slightly mischievous as he crossed his arms over his chest.

“How’ve you been my wee pumpkin~?” he asks, seeming genuinely curious. It would be nice to catch up if she didn’t take after her onee-san and hate him forever after the last stint. He was prepared to defend himself of course. She’d never figured out how she’d be spared and he supposed like the child she was she just wrote it off to good luck. Convincing her otherwise wouldn’t be too large a problem, though he hoped his patience would beat out her stubbornness or it would be a long day.

Citrine landed relatively close to the only figure that was on the island it seemed. There where dark clouds approaching, but she had never seen a rain storm before. To her they where just clouds that where also dark. At the mention of Roshi not being there she let out a little “Tsh” sound. “As if there was ever any doubt.” She said crouching by the water and putting her wrapped up hands in the water. The salt would cause her to wince a bit, but it was good for all her new cuts and bruises along her hands. “The only thing I've learned since I got here is punching rocks. I've been doing it so long I even thought up a song for it if we get board waiting.” The little celestial grumbled in an ill mood about their so called master's continued disregard for her patience or time line. She really had no time for all of these side diversions and constant seemingly pointless delay.

Apparently the immediate concern of not really making as much progress as she would like weighed on her much more then what she considered long past problems, even though it was barely weeks past. She made no mention of the Elder Yaidrat encounter. It even seemed to barely be on her mind. “I don't think my hands are any good for punching thing,” She commented pulling her hands out and shaking them off. Citrine flexed them a few times slowly, trying not to show that they where in fact very painful to move. If Roshi did have something planned, it was clear to her that she would be going in with a bit of a handicap. She doubted that was the case. The little Kai was just here to give a few minutes out of simple respect and then she would go back to trying to toughen her delicate waifish hands. It probably wasn't the most effective training in the world, but it was better then just sitting around watching the antics of an irresponsible old man.

Yan snickers a little at her “tsh,” amused the master had already set such a poor impression. It was good though, that she seemed to want to work. He was a little sad she showed him no displeasure after their last real encounter. He wondered if she held that much of a child’s mentality to let things go so simply and be so absorbed in the present or if she’d recall it later and snap. He kind of hoped she didn’t remember suddenly and shun him dramatically, but that could be entertaining in itself. Either way it was nice to see she seemed a bit at peace. He’d felt a small fondness that he brushed away but he watched her wince and found his focus turning to her hand. He studied them from where he stood and then sighed. They didn’t look all that pretty.

“Here,” he says uncrossing his arms as he started toward, gesturing her to give him them. Not really waiting once he was close enough, he took her hands with care, and looked them over for a moment, moving them appropriately to gauge the injury. As expected there with micro breaks from all the hard work that would heal over and make her fist all the stronger but still needed to heal. He slid his hands into his often deep pockets and removed a small ointment. His hands were much larger than hers even though he was short too, and the ointment was cool upon application. His touch was ginger and almost intimate, because even though he wasn’t trying to flirt with her as he did with Tomoko, that was just how he touched things. After getting each, he pulled out some gauze and carefully went to work on wrapping her hands up so the bones would set right.

“You should do this properly before working,” he explains as he finished the first hand, tightening it before tying the knot so it might cause her to wince once more. “It’s important the bones stay in place and heal right, otherwise your hard work will be for null.”

Despite being of similar strength to her, Yan was the opposite when it came to experience. He seemed to know exactly what to do in most situations and seemed quite responsible despite his laid back and almost childish demeanor. He was a bit lazy when it came to training however. He had more aims in life than pure strength, though it was helpful. There was a lot one could take from the world without needing force, and he’d managed quite well as a weakling so far. Some progress would be nice however...

The storm was getting closer and it started to feel ominous as the clouds began to cross the sun and block some of the rays that warmed the small island. More clouds had risen from where Citrine came in and the tide pulled back to much harsher waves. Getting off the island again would be more difficult. After tying the second hand he took her wrist and pulled her farther away from the water as another wave would come in shortly after she moved that would have soaked her.

“I think it might be another half assed lesson in survival,” he notes, looking down to her thoughtfully, curious if she had some kind of opinion.

Citrine would watch what Yan did awkwardly. It had only just occurred to her that other then beatings she had actually not been touched before, excluding being carried while unconcious. The anxiety of new experience caused her to shrink back away from the man a bit with her breath caught. She had no idea what he was actually doing since no one in the Fairfeilds, or in Otherworld for that matter ever needed to resort to medical attention. Even the fighters training under Kais where souls and simply healed when ever they rested for a while.

When he finished tying the first hand though she would finally get some relief as the last painful tug sealed her arm in the tight embrace of the bandages. “I know. I just didn't get a chance to yet cause I was away,” the little Kai lied not wanting to admit the fact that she simply had no idea what he was doing. She would research it later however. It seemed earth was entirely filled to the brim with places to buy information. Citrine figured it was to cover up for the insecurity of everyone on the planet having baby like strength.

As the second hand was being tied off she would just ignore him and look at the water. It seemed awfully excited today. She wondered if perhaps something was going on underwater. Where their under water fighters in this world? Maybe they had a good teacher she could...”Eee!” Citrine squeaked as her hand was suddenly yanked causing her to stumble out of the way of a wave. She was about to complain about it but Yan was talking again and interrupting was rude. “I don't get it, what are we supposed to survive?” She asked cocking her head to the side at him. The only thing seemingly out of place to her was how cloudy it was so she assumed it must be what he was talking about. “I'm not afraid of the dark if that is what your trying to say.”

Yan smiled slightly as Citrine made excuses for herself but he did not call her out on them. It did little good to call someone out on their lack of knowledge when they already knew of it. Sometimes it could even work to stop them from wanting to learn! He simply hoped she’d watched well enough to mimic the way he did the ties in the future. In his book, it was okay to be ignorant if you planned to learn, and he had a lot of patience for those types. As she spoke though he blinked, looking to her curiously and realizing there was something else she must be taught.

He didn’t let go of her wrist, afraid she might wander back to the water and be swept up by the quickening current. The wind was getting stronger and colder and a body in general could sense the change in the environment and notice it was a bit foreboding but as to what it actually meant in length, well that was a luxury people like Citrine who’d never been in a sun shower let a lot of typhoon, did not have. Giving her wrist a squeeze to get her attention he lifted his free hand and pointed to the clouds. “Clouds you see, the normal white fluffy things that are now pitch black, are actually filled with water. When there are certain changes in the atmosphere, the sky, they release the water and it pours down to Earth~” he explains easily, without any condescendence in his tone. He seemed content to explain, as if it were something clearly not everyone knew and the truth was a lot of aliens didn’t really. “With the way the clouds are growing so quickly and the wind and ocean is changing it is likely to be a very rough rain storm with high winds and currents. The whole island could potentially flood over,” he continued looking down to her curious of her response.

Before she could respond however, his ears perked to the a weak sounding ”help” in the distance. He turned her gaze back over the sea as the clouds started to break above them. Water fell lightly in splots but then quickened to a full shower and then downpour. The waves that came in were higher now and more rough as they crashed into the sand with force. He pulled her back once more, giving her a harder pull and letting go to suggest she head in doors, but it was certainly her choice. He leaned out and covered his eyes with his hand to guard a little from the rain and squinted out over the waves as he heard another help muted by the waves. Finally he spotted it. Out in the distance was Roshi bobbing up and down in his broken little sub. Not only had he completely forgotten he’d asked them to come, he had not checked the weather before going out. Another “help” was cut off as a huge wave stole of the sub and almost topsided it.

There was a large clap of lightning that lit up the whole sky and stole Yan’s attention. He glanced to Citrine. “There’s also that!” he shouts with a weak grin. He had to shout now because the winds were roaring and the best idea would be to go into shelter, or prepare some better for what was obviously going to be a hellish storm. Yan was already drenched, but he took no notice to the rain and let the wind pull back his clothes without being fazed. He looked really cool as such, his back straight again despite the pulling and he looked out to the sea once more before turning to Citrine, his messy fringe whipping across his face.

“Can you power fly?” he asks curiously, devising a plan to save the old hermit even if he might be able to save himself. “Roshi’s out there but you can’t swim right? Let alone in this! Fly me out as far and then if you can’t get further drop me and you can then let the wind carry you back to land!” He didn’t say it was a great plan. The storm was all around them and flying or swimming would be very difficult for either of them. Roshi was lucky he liked him.

The storm only got rougher. Lightning shot across the sky adding light to what was becoming a very dark time but it vanished quickly with the loud thunder and returned them into a fog of dark rain. They had to be quick or Roshi would be lost to the current. Yan got under the cover with Citrine and instructed her how to carry him. She was smaller than Kaiya even but it was doable, and she had the strength. She took off with a burst of heavy speed he’d seen her use in the Yaidratian trial and they made their way to Roshi quickly. The man yelped as they almost blew past them.

“We need to take the whole sub!” he shouts desperately, clinging to it’s hatch as Yan went to grab his arms. The red head scowled but it made sense as to why Roshi wasn’t just rushing to shore on his own. He should be strong enough after all. The small Copper Citrine adjusted him and he got a good grip on the sub. Citrine was slightly stronger than him which worked out since she had to carry the total mass. There was another large wave coming in and he shouted just in time for the young kai to pull them up. The wind battered on and their added mass made them unbalanced but she managed to keep hold and pull them to shore. There was another huge gust though and a part of the house smacked her hard in the face causing her to drop Yan, and thus Roshi and the sub almost on the house. While narrowly missing, Roshi yelped again as Citrine crashed into it anyway, busting through the attic into his kitchen

The turtle hermit climbed out only as him and the sub were safely parked on the sand and instructed Yan to get the chains to chain it to the house. Like Yan he managed to stand strong in the fierce winds once balanced but he looked wearily at the harsh waves, predicting they would rush in further.

“Why isn’t this thing a damn capsule!?” he shouted in a scowl, but did as he was told while looking back to the house. As soon as he finished, Roshi shouted more orders but he ignored them now, going in to find the unconscious Ctrine a bit worn for wear. He sighed and picked her up with ease, ignoring Roshi further since he had followed him instead of doing the tasks needed. He set her down gently on the couch. He got towels as Roshi pulled out the space heater, which Yan immediately commandeered for the young Kai.

“Shouldn’t we...get her out of her wet clothes?” Roshi asks with a upturned pig nose. Yan smacked him hard so he had an excuse for it to be bloody. He shooed him off and the hermit went back to fixing the house up to fully handle the storm. He carefully removed the first layer of the girls clothes out of Roshi’s view, so she could accept the warmth of the dry towels better and laid her gently once more by the heater. He then turned back to help the hermit, meeting him in the kitchen.

“What the heck were you doing?” he asks with another sigh, taking hold of the wooden plank Roshi was using to try and board up the hole Citrine had caused.

“I had to run some errands!” the hermit says not liking to be scolded, and almost whacking Yan’s hand with the hammer before managing to get a nail into the wood. His sunglasses had broken and he did not take them off despite the huge crack in one of the lenses.

“You were supposed to be giving us some kind of trial!”

Roshi paused at this, and it was obvious for a moment he had no idea what Yan was talking about. He slowly turned his head to the red head and grinned. “Yes! A Trial! That was the trial!”

“No, it wasn’t,” he says with a narrow gaze. “Save your bullshit for Citrine,” he adds getting another plank in place.

Roshi chuckled but nodded. “It could serve as the trial anyway!” he says enthusiastically. “You both proved yourselves well. Citrine actually followed your directions and pulled her strength up and you actually prioritized other people~ A trial well passed.”

Yan’s eyes narrowed further and he scowled silently to himself but got the next plank of wood as Roshi finished hammering. He thought of himself as a considerate guy, and where Roshi got the impression he couldn’t care about other’s was beyond him. Still, if he wanted to think today’s display was some kind of grand gesture to his no longer being a murderous asshole he wouldn’t correct him. He wanted to be taught some things by the master after all, and whether his impression of him was faulty or not, as long as it was more positive it would benefit him.

“Not gonna leave you and your porn stash to sink to the bottom of the ocean,” he notes with a sigh and Roshi snorts. “Citrine did do well though. She is learning more about the world each day~” he explains, hoping to add to the hermit’s delusion he cared about her, or people in general. He did like people, and liked looking after them, but actually caring about them was a bit more challenging for the old Ender Demon. He didn’t mind it though, as he did not quite want to be cared about either. A good balance to make ends meet and have productive relationships was good for him.

“I didn’t realize you two were so well acquainted,” Roshi asks, raising his brow and looking to Yan suspiciously.

“I was asked by some other old folks to look after her,” he says looking to him with a small smile. “She is a kai but she is also a child, you pervert.”

Roshi scoffed and shook his head. “You think so lowly of me!”

Yan laughs, “You think so lowly of me!”

Roshi grinned again at this then looked back to the girl before Yan. “Alright, I’ll teach you a little something. Both of you.”

Yan smiles softly, then looks back to the girl as well, as Roshi turned back to finish hammering in the last plant to board up the hole. She had done well, and he meant his words. She would be an interesting...ally. Is the the word he was using now? The semantics were becoming harder to get clearly with this group he’d found himself in, but he figured it was for now, worth giving the time to figure it.
