The Saiyan Inferno
[Saiyan Gains, Combat Rune and Champ II]

The astral realm seemed to shimmer and fold in on itself, creating a wormhole of sorts in its reality. A figure broke through the void and stepped out of the darkness. Chishan easily found his footing on the shadowy ground as the wormhole closed behind him. He didn't even toss it a glance or second thought. Entering the alternate reality in numerous different ways was not indifferent to the Saiyan Inferno and as such, found no wonder in it anymore.

And wasn't that just a little bit sad?

He let out a deep breath and glanced around the empty space, surprised at the blank slate that had seemingly phased in to greet him. Apparently the gem had connected with his mind and found a bare canvas would suit the saiyan much better. He shrugged slightly and let his mind go to work, digging into the deepest recesses of his memory to summon up a landscape. As he did so, the world around him began to take form.

For some reason, one particular memory seemed to float to the front of his mind. And as it hung there, it took the full attention of his creating. Long metal tables popped up on a tiled floor, set in long rows. The distant smell of food tickled his nostrils and summoned up memories he had long since hidden.

This was the cafeteria of the Codex.

How long had it been since he set foot on the ship made for Rubic? He couldn't even remember. He bent down and ran his hands along the smooth surface of the ground. Even now, he could almost feel the water that had splashed all over it from the water-balloon fight.

Ah, what he wouldn't give to go back to those times again.

Not me. We.
A distant sound of skittering filled the room. Something had gotten in. Echoes throughout the steel frame made it seem as though it was coming from several places at once. Whatever it was, it knew just where to step to set off the right vibrations and send the Saiyan's nerves ablaze with misinformation.

It was here. It was there. There was one. Three. Six? It was just next to him. Four of them. No. Wrong. The faintest squeaking sound from just above him then...

It fell.

The trap had been set perfectly, the globular orb filled with water dropping from the heavens to rain watery justice down upon the Lightning Lord. Above him, the cycloptic supposed reincarnation of the Eye of Gruumsh watched with frozen glee. She dare not move, aside from shifting the balloons tucked under her arm, producing another faint squeak as they brushed against each other.

However it wouldn't be long before she was found out, and when she felt her old friend's eyes upon her she smiled down and said, "I think I just declared war." She scrunched her nose ever so slightly and motioned with her free hand towards him. The miracle of the astral realm had summoned up fair game in terms of water balloons aplenty for both of them. Problem was, they were on the other side of the room. Chishan would have to be fast in order to get there without getting hit (possibly again, if the first one had met its mark).

Pan readied another balloon. Was the Lightning Lord fast enough?

Splash!

The water was ice cold, causing his skin to prickle with goosebumps. His body jerked slightly at the sudden attack of freezing liquid and he spun to the side, shaking his head violently in hopes that it would get the water off of him faster. He had heard the sudden movement all around him, his eyes had been darting back and forth in an attempt to locate whatever enemy had found him here. But what had he gotten for his interest?

An impromptu shower.

He heard the slight squeak of plastic rubbing against one another and his head jerked up, catching the cycloptic saiyan posed with her weapons. She grinned down at him like in days of old, even though her face was far different from then. His face, on the other hand, was hardened with serious contempt. For just a moment, it looked like he was about to unleash hell upon her form. She runs off with Rubic, tells him not to look and then after months of silence, contacts him by dropping a water balloon on him?

He smiled.

Hell, if that didn't have Pan written all over it. She disappeared for months before and when she first got a chance to be alone with him, she had surprised him with an awkward kiss. Now here she was again, breaking the serious undertones that had grown between them by reenacting one of their greatest experiences together.

"You're so gonna pay for that." He said, his emerald eyes twinkling with nostalgia as he leapt forward and towards the ammunition that had seemingly appeared on its own. His body moved as fluidly as the water that he yearned to chuck back at her. He made a diving jump over the pile of balloons and came to a sliding stop behind them, essentially barricading himself with the plastic wall. Both hands came down and picked up globes of red and purple, giving each a squeeze to see how full they were. Oh, plenty enough to soak his old friend.

One arm then the other swung forward, hurling the orbs in the girl's direction as he fully intended on winning this sudden war!

Worry passed over the Saiyan's face when her opponent's own visage became one of sheer contempt. The moment, though lasting only a second, seemed to take up a thousand of her heartbeats.

But thankfully, it passed.

He smiled, and so did she. And for a short time, they were young again. The war was the future's problem, the Empire had not yet swallowed them whole, and in a few minutes Minosha would come in the room and join them. Any minute now...

The water balloon war lasted as long as it did. When two warriors with supernatural stamina decided to play a game like that one, the only limit to how long they can play is how much ammunition is available, and in this world the ammunition couldn't run out. And since time here passed much different from that of the real world, literally years may have passed within here and the exterior world could have moved only seconds. But a time finally came for stamina or mental conjuration ability to run low, and when it finally ran to nil, the entire ship's cafeteria had been absolutely soaked, including the hallway leading out and most of the adjacent kitchen.

Pan collapsed onto one of the tables in fits of giggles that would have been absolutely inappropriate for literally any of her subordinates to see. Thankfully none of them were here. Technically there was just a superior officer here. When she finally cleared up enough to speak, her speech was still laden with small grins and brief bouts of giggles. "I'm alive in the... you know. The other dimension. The one with bodies. And I'm fine. Except I'm still half blind... I think Prince Calar maybe knows that. And I've still got Rubic. And Rubic's... mostly fine. He's healing up, I think. Best I can tell with the information I've got coming from the... thing that's fixing him."

It wasn't funny, obviously. This was the real reason that she had contacted the Lightning Lord, as she didn't want to overall bother him while he did his general... Saiyan things. Rumor had it he had become quite close with the Prince himself over the past few months. But she had to spill these things, and the water balloon fight seemed to be a great guise for that. Having given the photograph to Anna, it'd sparked an interest both in contacting Chishan and in having a goddamn water balloon fight and forgetting that she was a secret murder warrior for one of the most powerful organizations in the galaxy. "And I've gotta leave again for about a month. But... I don't want to lose contact this time. And um..." This time her smile actually faded, she looked down at her own soaking wet hands, "I met your daughter. I fought your daughter. She's... strong. Like her Paps."

A second passed and she looked at him with one eye, "How are things with you? Did you like... get a haircut?" The joke was obviously based on the fact that his hair was soaked to the point of tamping down a bit and losing some of its natural Saiyan anti-gravity.

The Saiyan Inferno
Chishan fell to the floor, a sopping wet mess.

The balloon war had been an unmitigated disaster, costing the lives of many water-filled plastic pouches before it came to a stalemate. In truth, Chishan and Pan could probably have kept this on for much longer than this but there were words that needed to be said and emotions that needed to be put out into the open. They both knew this and, despite all the fun and excitement they were having, they eventually called a truce.

But not before the entirety of the cafeteria had been thrice washed over.

He was chuckling right along with his old friend, running his hand through his short, wet hair. It felt so heavy as it was plastered to his skull, blond locks losing their usual sharp luster.

"I figured you were alive. It's fairly hard to project yourself here without breathing in the real world. At least, as far as my experience goes." He said, shrugging softly at her first words. She always seemed to start out a serious conversation with a strange statement, the pin to pop the veritable awkward bubble before the real conversation could go through.

"Good. I mean, I wish you had given me a chance to say goodbye or to try and help fix him but...I understand why you took him. And I'm glad he's okay. And that you're okay. Everything's...okay." He stumbled through. It was unusual for him to jabber like an idiot but just like that, he made quite the fool of himself.

He paused when Pan mentioned his daughter. But it was only that; a pause. His feelings and thoughts about the subject had been so hidden away that when his oldest friend brought them up, they were freed as quickly as a dam breaking. "So I do have a daughter...I'll be honest, I thought Tapion was only lying. Or that it was another one of his riddles. But if you're telling me that she's...Well, I guess it's hard to understand then. I didn't provide...the genetic material for her, as far as I know. Nor do I know who is the mother. It's possible that from my life before I could have impregnated someone but...you would think I would have heard about it by now."

He stopped mid-thought, breaking through all the bullshit that was spinning in his head and locked eyes with Pan. "Tell me about her."

"About all of that..." Pan thought about the best way to respond before she simply flipped over, onto her stomach, and pressed a few buttons on her eyepatch. The thin white strip concealed numerous little buttons, and only the operator would have had the intimacy with the device to memorize which button did what. "I think showing you would be better than telling you."

She altered the projector and changed up the speakers to an outwards setting so that he could view the recording as she'd viewed it originally. The battle was a quick one, a series of tests with which Pan seemed to be in total control. However from her point of view it would be easy to see that Anna was by far stronger and faster than the Saiyan's current capabilities. The numbers that filtered through to the Scouter gave an added plethora of information, and overall since the Scouter was more of an eye than an external device, it gave Chishan the chance to literally duplicate the experience with his daughter rather than watching it like a removed documentary from another person's point of view.

The data finally finished when Pan left Anna alone on the cliffs and flew towards her next assignment. Combat levels lowered and the automatic recording system ceased, leaving Pan and Chishan staring at each other once again. "She's pretty much like that. She's got a huge chip on her shoulder but I think it's the result of where she came from. She's not... I mean she's... well she's like me when it comes to birth, you know?"

There was a moment of silence before Pan offered up a comment, "Of course... I don't think you're going to fault her for that. I mean... no one can help how they're created, after all. She's got your blood. She's... she's yours." There was a tacit implication within her statement that she had always felt the same fear for herself that she now felt for Anna. Though she was phrasing it like a statement of assurance, there was obviously some bit of inquiry buried within it.
