[Champ I]

It had been long since Ran Fan stood on the green planet Namek-sei. It was a strange place. Green water, green plants, green sky, and most strangely of all, green people. Though to call them people would perhaps be a misnomer; they were clearly not people, after all. Pointy antennae, reproduced by spitting eggs out of their mouths, nor did they eat -- no, they certainly weren't people. What they really were, for the most part, was a nuisance.

Perched on a rocky outcropping, Ran Fan let her ki flow outwards, feeling out the nearby settlements rather than looking for them. She would soon leave for Valhalla-sei, an ancient acquisition of her people, so long held that it may almost be considered a second Vegeta-sei. Before she left, though, there was a man she hoped to kill. Not a problem for her, simply a fly who had buzzed too loudly and too often when she was receiving a brief tutelage from the only respectable Namekian on this planet, the old Guru. If she didn't find him, it would be his lucky day, but she certainly desired to salt the slug before leaving.

Just as she felt the familiar presence of one undeserving of its life, a strange calling tugged on her soul. For a brief moment, Ran Fan became illuminated in red light, and when the light went out, her body was still. She had been transported in spirit and mind to a place devoid of life or land or sky; a blank, white space, ready to be molded into an arena of battle.

Hmph. I probably won't find that annoying slug when I come back from here, so I should probably make the most of this fight. A simple arena, then, should suffice, the woman thought, closing her eyes. She concentrated, thinking back to her training in the warm atmosphere of Vegeta-sei, feeling at home in a courtyard of stone. The red sky was at peace, with no clouds in sight, and a bright moon overhead.

Yes, this will do.

Ran Fan allowed her power to drop to a resting level, just above half of her potential. As her opponent arrived, the half-Saiyan fell back into a Tiger Claw stance, facing down the other warrior. Certainly a strong fighter, from the presence she gave off.

Wordlessly, Ran Fan nodded at her foe, staring with an emptiness at the warrior.

Yes, this should do nicely, she thought with a smile, waiting quietly for her foe to begin.

Pan was cold. Now, to her core, she was cold. As it turned out the purging of a demonic presence from within her lead to a full week of massive, agonizing pain, within which the only escape was the astral gem that she'd implanted as a decoration in her blade. She'd never expected to really use it except to contact Chishan, but now she had no choice but to escape the unbearable darkness.

She arrived within the arena, her body so cold that even her mental form was shivering, and watched her opponent fall into a rather predictable stance. The evasive tiger claw had been used on Pan many, many times. She had contemplated learning it, once or twice, but figured the best way to get rid of it was to throw it for a loop. She fell into her own combat stance, watching her opponent for a moment before a single quick burst of energy shot from her pinky, surprisingly full of ki for such a quick little burst.

She rushed forward in its wake, her battlefire raging and expanding her power level even further as she broke the melee range. "Wanna see a trick?" Her hands lit into flame, almost devoured by Hellfire. Rather than becoming muscular or skeletal, they instead revealed a burnt demonic skin underneath, freezing them in a permanent clawed position. She swiped twice as the claws formed, nothing but a pair of quick attacks to get the ball rolling. But it was clear she meant business from the onset.

A current of warm air blew through the vast training grounds as the two warriors stood apart. Ran Fan's foe took only a second to decide on the best course of action in beginning her assault. The younger warrior launched a single blast of ki, sparkling and buzzing through the rusty atmosphere before reaching Ran Fan. At first, it appeared that the blast would burn itself into Ran Fan's skull, but at the last moment, the shadowy woman quickly weaved to the left, kicking upwards towards the young woman's face as if trying to kick up dirt. A thin veil of shadows replaced the dirt, yet functionally they would act similarly; should it fall into open eyes, the targets vision would likely be impaired for a brief moment.

Ran Fan's foe continued the charge shortly after the shadowy veil fell, however. With arms seeming possessed by foul magics, the younger warrior came to a melee range, ripping down at Ran Fan's body with claws burning of demonfire. One claw ripped away the shadow warrior's guard, and a second raked across her shoulder. Ran Fan winced, gingerly testing the feeling in her arm to make sure no significant damage was done. It was notable that the strange enchantment had managed to make its mark cleanly through Ran Fan's armor, leading her to an important question -- who was this foe?

"I see you are talented," Ran Fan spoke, her voice echoing off the stone floor and tall walls of the courtyard as shadows rose from the ground. "Good. I would hate for this to be boring." A smirk grew on the assassin's lips as she let out a small shockwave of dark energy. Shadows rose into three dimensions around the woman, circling around and running towards Ran Fan's opponent in illusory motions.

These shadows were no more than projections, until darkness covered Ran Fan herself. In an instant, the warrior had switched places with one shadowy figure, appearing to the side of the younger fighter, and struck with a simple cross-body blow. The momentum in this fight would not seem to be so easily set.

The darkness covered Pan's eyes and would have blinded her had it not been for a last second readjustment of her scouter, with her futuristic device flipping to a thermal vision. It was unfortunate for this warrior if her fighting style depended on causing Pan to lose her sight. She had paid that price during the war. Her attack caused a moderate amount of damage to her armor but that was very different from actually harming her opponent.

Pan steadied herself for the next attack, even as the warrior complimented her. She was not rude, so she gave a nod in response, but chose not to verbally reply just yet. It was then that the warrior multiplied herself with the darkness, blending into it. Pan sought her thermal scanner again, only to find that she had taken too long. A dangerous fist came straight for her, hitting its mark from one of the shadows. "Clever." She said, stumbling back.

She shook her hand and the flames ignited anew. Sending one hand up into the air she summoned a burst of lava, shattering the carefully crafted arena in an attempt to ferret out the real opponent she was facing. Another burst of lava followed it, creating a tidal wave of energy that attempted to cover the entire floor of the arena in a second layer of molten land. The Saiyaness herself had leapt into the air. She watched carefully for the real one, or one that was physical enough for her to strike. When she had thought she spotted something, her flight path changed to one of charging downward.

She crossed her hands over her body in a practiced style, with her palms pointed outward and clawed, as though she were a beast. With hands like that, she more than seemed to be. As soon as she reached the intended target, the one that she had hoped was her opponent, she crossed her hands away from each other in a brilliant display of strength, with enough brute force to tear through stone and, combined with her demonic claws, more than easily rend flesh.

Ran Fan looked on as her gimmicky attack successfully staggered her opponent. The young foe backed away carefully, and Ran Fan felt a familiar and comfortable heat beginning to bubble under the stone floor. It had been long since the assassin had trained in the ancient temple on Yardrat-sei - almost a lifetime, in fact - and yet even still, the presence of burning liquid which could melt away even the darkness was a welcome one.

Feeling the flow of this magma beneath the earth, Ran Fan dashed to and fro, cartwheeling and bouncing away from newly opened spouts of the burning energy. The more spouts that popped up, the quicker they became, and Ran Fan's speed was quickly tested. After mere moments, a massive tidal wave of liquid stone erupted from a collective pool of smaller spouts, and Ran Fan was forced to use a portion of her ki to blast through the crashing wave of magma, creating an opening just long enough for the assassin to safely escape to the skies.

As it so happened, this played just into her foe's plans. Once again, reaping claws struck gashes through the front of Ran Fan's armor, clawing through the surface of her flesh with a searing pain. Ran Fan clucked her tongue as she fell back from the sky due to the power and viciousness of the attack, regaining her flight shortly before becoming in danger of falling into the magma again.

Shadows enhanced Ran Fan's body, slowly moving from their cast position on her body to cover her arms in a volatile, claw-shaped ki. Two can play at this game, the assassin thought, quickly copying her foe's attack style, and closed to a melee distance with great haste. Each claw of shadow was brought down independently, the left slashing down, while the right claw rose in an uppercut. Neither was particularly powerful, yet each was a good warm-up for Ran Fan's finer control of shadows. At the rate this fight was going, it would certainly be possible that she would need it.

Pan watched her opponent carefully, smirking at the raw power shown between the two of them and the seemingly even matched state. Her opponent closed in quickly, and came in with slashing attacks of her own. What exactly was she controlling? Pan's own ability stemmed from the darkness that had been expanded and inflated in order to be mastered and eventually purged, but this warrior claimed mastery over something entirely different.

The first attack came too quickly to evade, and Pan felt a streak of burning claw marks tear into her armor and beyond. She let out a hiss of pain, and felt the darkness on her right arm flare to life yet again, this time uncontrolled by her. The sudden internal attack caught her completely by surprise and caused her to throw off her attempted defense, the second attack hitting its mark and catching her chin. She flew up and backwards, almost uncontrollably as the demonic taint caught again on her left arm and rose to life, both hands seemingly ignited anew.

She was sent spiraling out of control and, for a moment, it seemed as though she would be victim to her own destruction of the arena surrounding them. But at the last moment, a blast of chilling wind spread across the fighting ground, creating a thin layer of hardened crust that was solid enough to land on and fight across. But even as Pan stood up, she could feel that she had made one too many missteps. "Oh damn." She rose to an upright position, looking at her fiery demonic right hand, and sighed with a hint of defeat, "And just when I was starting to have fun." She lowered the hand onto the ground and it slammed down with the force of something much more deadly than it should have been. It was almost as though she suddenly weighed several tonnes. The safety net that she had just created over the lava was already cracking.

"I'm really sorry about this," She said as though she was apologizing for a ruined dinner event, even as her body was malforming, her astral presence losing itself to the demon within, "But I'm going to have to get out of here pretty soon." Her hand bulged, the demonic claw becoming a paw for a creature that was bound to be much bigger than anything that should exist in the astral realm. Like biscuit dough breaking through its container, her new flesh ripped out from underneath the old, a brand new beast borne from her body. A full on arm of total, bestial darkness had revealed itself and Pan almost seemed bored by this. After all, transformations were natural in this world. Even into something as... hellish as this... right?

Her body began to fade, but as it did she turned to face the warrior that she had been facing, "We'll meet again." She said, though the trail of her voice made it a sort of growling noise as her throat adjusted itself into the new demonic form.
