The Saiyan Inferno

[Saiyan Gains, Champ II and Combat Rune] The muddy waters spread out as far as the eye could see. A thick fog hung over the body of water eerily, hovering just above the liquid to look like it was skating on the surface. In the distance, a few trunks that were once precious trees were tilted and uprooted, long dead. Their roots, spiraling and jarring, looked like they were reaching out for victims to grab. Overall, it was not a pleasant place. Chishan took a quick whiff through his nose, sucking in the bog air. His senses went to quick work on the warm lack of density, picking up many different scents and aromas that permeated the terrifying scene. Yet he didn't smell anything that would resemble something living. Everything was dead. "That's reassuring." He said softly to the humid air. The gem of telepathy had taken him here for one reason or another. Someone had connected with his energy signature through the crystal... The only question that remained was...who? WC: 164 |

"Hooo?" The Telepathic Link had been a tool that Hikari used many times to connect with newer beings that she had never met, but rarely did she see anyone from her past: and this would be one of the earliest, besides her lover. She sat upon a throne of gnarled branches, as though she had warped the reality around them, with one hand on what was an arm, and the other with her hand, a glass of wine. "Chishan...wasn't it?" The Celestial pushed herself from the throne chair, and swirled the wine in her hand, "It's been a very long time, hasn't it? If you can remember me." Well, she had changed her outward look so often, not even Hikari could fully remember her original appearance. But she remembered Chishan, when he was weaker. She didn't need the ability to sense to see what that war had done to him, or whatever else he had gotten himself into. She paused, a few meters away, and tossed the wine behind her, "I had thought to fight, but perhaps we should hold ourselves off from that, for now." Roots flew out from the ground as she used her psychic powers to create chairs for them, out of the dead roots, fortified by her link within the Astral Realm. Besides, I never was one to hide my power. I can tell you have...easily surpassed me. The gap has gone far. But there is much to talk about. Let the war wary warrior rest his feet. Even if it is just to spin a tale for an old acquaintance?" Words: 267 |

He stared quietly at the newcomer, a female of unknown origin. Yet as she connected with him telepathically, his own abilities hooked onto the connection and reversed them. In her mind he saw nothing more than what she could think of. And her memories were focused on where she had seen Chishan before. Hikari had been her name. He hadn't seen her since far before the Galactic War, their last exchange anything but pleasant. In fact, there weren't many meetings that they had taken part in that were 'friendly'. Their first interaction had been against the monstrous being known as Broli and after that, had seen each other a number of times in spars. The last time he had laid eyes on her in the real world had been on Kanassa, over a year ago real time. "You speak like you are trying to recall and yet...something tells me you know exactly who I am. Though no doubt I've change a bit since our last meeting." He said softly, running his hand through his blond hair. He had been merely a boy back then, unaware of the harshness of the world. But he was learned now. He watched as she shaped the world as easily as an artist would mold clay, forging seats out of roots for them to sit in. She mentioned she had intended to fight but apparently, she had chosen conversation over that. Last time they had fought one another, they had leveled an entire astral city. He moved around the wicker seat and slid down into it, leaning back just enough to give the feeling he was relaxed. "Much to talk about? Last time we parted on fairly hostile terms. I suppose there's no reason to act rashly after so long." Utilizing his own abilities, the ground underneath them slowly rose up and began to shape itself, creating perfect angles in the mud. Sticks and moss slid together and rose up around them in natural pillars. As the gazebo finally came to fruition and became a fully formed object, he gave a small swipe of his hand and the grime that had been used to form the building suddenly exploded off of it, replaced with clear cut marble. He brought the drawing hand up and rested it on his cheek. "How have you been?" WC: 389 TWC: 553 |

"Yes, much to talk about," Hikari said quietly as her eyes veiled over, the gaze focused on Chishan as she sat in her chair and placed a finger on the marble table top, "I have come to respect the Saiyan Empire and you. Therefore, I think that we have many things to talk about, if not only for the respect, but my friend within the Empire." While she couldn't mask her thoughts as well as other psychics, Hikari had developed a nasty defense, after her spar during the war with Yume. The Forest of Illusion had given her the idea to guard her thoughts with horrors, pulled from the reader's own mind; thus, her most precious information was guarded. What Chishan saw, was fine: after all, it was memories (at the time, fond). The defense only activated against memories like who she loved, who she worked for, and her personal ambitions. "How have I been?" The question brought a smile to her face as she thought about Tapion, and that gate rose up around his true identity, "Honestly, the happiest that I've been in my entire life. Only a few memories come close to this feeling." She waved her free hand as she created a picture in the air next to her, and then swirled her pointer finger, "I suppose you could say that the Galactic War was one of my lowest points. When I, like so many others, was swept up into the conflict." She had contracted, and worked for the Saiyan Empire in a more secret ops way that she guarded against as well, but she rarely thought of that time, because that was when she was at her lowest. Hikari smiled and then asked her own question, "How is, Cress? Last I heard, she was pregnant with your child." Words: 569 |

"The war was harsh on a lot of people." He said, leaving no mystery to the fact that he had, as well, fallen to a dark place during it. "It tested many of our revolves, some of us failed that test. But I guess what's most important is that we're still alive now. Even if it's scars are still fresh." His gaze didn't shift, didn't glaze over with the memories that had once haunted him to his core. He had come to peace with what he had done and moved on in the only way he could. He shifted slightly at her question. "Cress is doing well. I get regular communications from her. Apparently her duties as a scholar don't end despite the fact that she's with child. At the same time, saiyan traditions hold that I don't see her until the baby is born. Something about female empowerment. I probably knew the traditions once but..." He trailed off, hesitant to reveal his missing background. He shook off the thought and continued. "She's due soon, probably within the next month or so. I look forward to seeing her and the baby. It's one of the bright spots I look forward to everyday." And he meant it, a sly grin creeping onto his face. "But a person only speaks like you do when they're experiencing a special feeling. So I gotta ask...who is the special someone?" WC: 236 TWC: 789 |

Hikari smiled at the new about Cress, though she had no idea about such a tradition in the Saiyan race, as her friend had rarely shared such information freely. Well, she supposed that she had never asked Cress about those types of traditions, with the state of mind she had been in. The Celestial tilted her head slightly as Chishan trailed off, as he thought to hide something. Well, she wouldn't pry for now, it wasn't her place. The finger that had been placed on the marble table pulled up as she drew up the water, only cleaned with a heater under the pot, a simple one with fire under it. The smell that a honey-flavored tea had as it brewed went up in smoke. And then Chishan asked her about Tapion, and she blushed slightly, "Ah, well, I can't tell you who it is. It's a little risky at the moment; I know it seems rude after I asked about Cress, but he asked me to keep his idenity a secret, for the time." She placed her hand out and drew up twin cups for the tea, as she sighed, "You might have met him though. You could say he's not from this universe." She sat back then as something nagged at the back of her mind. She knew she had heard something about the androids on Earth, indeed, that many Saiyans had been there. Reports from Yuki had been able to dig up several names, but the names of the assault team that had ended the Steel Legion had stayed out of her grasp: mostly because Hikari stayed away from the media news, and she rarely trusted them. She sat forward and narrowed her eyes at Chishan: while she had stopped the reading of his mind, his emotions were easier to read without his mind, "I think your hurt was gained more-so during the war. A hurt that has scarred you deeply. I, too, gained such a hurt. I think you were part of that assault team that took down the leader of the Steel Legion. If I'm right, and you want that information kept secret, I will do so. I gain nothing from telling." Of course, he could be known for it, and this information would be very late, but if she knew the heroes that killed the Legion's leader, she would know more about what lay behind the war. Nations that just went to war? That was just moronic. What was the true nature of the war, was the query that she had had Yuki stay on Earth to study. Words: 1,004 |

His smirk spread a bit more. "A secret lover then? How very interesting. I won't push the topic; I don't want you to get in trouble with your special someone. Who knows how powerful people are from other universes." Of course, she brought the topic back to something more serious. The wry grin disappeared and a look of serious contemplation crossed over his features. He glanced down at the marble table, eying the pot that was still stewing over the flame. The flashing color seemed to dance across his hardened features, casting shadows that made his demeanor seemingly shift. "Before the war, actually. What I had to do during the war...it was a byproduct of what had happened to me prior. But you're not wrong and it's not unknown. It was...an interesting experience. It didn't quite end happily." He drew his hand gently in front of him and a small tear opened in the fabric of the astral realm. As it spread out further, a scene could barely be made out as the folds continued to unfold. Seconds later, a full circle could be seen beside the Saiyan Inferno. And the battle with Unit Five-Thousand could be seen. The top of the building exploded outward as Rondown unleashed his first attack, causing the four warriors to scatter. Chishan, Pan, Shin and Tapion. He watched her carefully. "It was the hardest battle of my life. It's safe to say that it lefts its scars on me." His eyes narrowed a bit. "And what about you?" WC: 256 TWC: 1045 |

"My hardships are ever enduring," she replied carefully as she watched. Tapion had not told her about his part in the attack on Rondown. Her eyes shifted across all the warriors, however, as she felt he watched her, carefully. She did not blame the Saiyan Inferno for his mistrust of her. She watched the battle, short or long as it was, in relative silence until the end. Her eyes caught on Chishan before she passed the warrior a cup and quietly poured him a cup of tea. "When the title you hold is Chaos Commander, and you are a mercenary, you tend to lose a lot of those you command in the chaos you must make. I lost many of my friends and close comrades during the war. Particularly on Namek, when Avalon and the Empire took it from Damaskia and the mercenary Planet Trade Organization forces. My family from Earth was killed, not converted, and my brother has recently vanished: you might have known him as Shaoran, or more recently, Yasha." The Damaskian commander faced the Saiyan and released a low sigh, "I shouldn't have brought the pain to the surface again. I apologize, Chishan. I hope we can at least start over as friends this time?" She smiled at the battle hardened Saiyan, this time she wouldn't touch him if she could. She had felt the spike into her head before, an that was caused by her own carelessness. Words: 1000+ |
