EDIT:
The sun was rising, Juch noted. The yellow tint of the morning was teasing through the curtains of his office; he, the one who had spent all last evening and the early hours of the next day mulling over the contents of one particular meeting. It was unfortunate, he should say, that by the time the digital clock announced the arrival of two o’clock ante meridiem, his mind had drifted off elsewhere and hadn’t returned since. Perhaps he should listen. He probably needed a change of scenery—yeah, that sounded good. A brisk walk somewhere to clear his head; he had been just too focused on his thoughts, and burnout was just around the corner. Some time to clear his head; he can revisit the topic later. With a reluctant huff, the professor exited the spaceship with silence, taking care not to yank the dreams away from his snoring companion. Someplace with no bothersome noise—even the seagull screeches were unappetizing right now. And so he wandered through the air; the earth was waking up, but he wanted no part of it. Not yet; he wasn’t ready for it. ----- Pillars of rock dotted the landscape. His lanky fingers caressed the rough exterior of the nearest tower, as the shadows gradual ascent marked the passing day. He exhaled, his forehead joining his digits. With so much work to do, the act of doing nothing can be a luxury. ----- Juch Word Count: 238 Total Word Count: 238 |

The new day came and with it a new errand. Yan’s connections on Earth were varying but the young appearing, dimensional idiot genius, Sei Edgen had him at their beck and call. For now. He had said it would be the last thing for awhile, since Tomoko was already making their preparations to Grace, and Edge had replied in giving him a new task, the final payment for information on his meddlesome headache. He was to go out to the middle of nowhere and meet an “acquaintance” of the eccentric scientist, and once more they used the word less than sparingly to annoy him. He wasn’t even sure Edge knew this scientist personally and yet they called him an acquaintance while refusing to offer him any such title. He could not protest much, but being labeled a minion was a bit irksome. And so he walked. He had parked a vehicle not far away but as he got closer he did not want to be in the air. Something told him he should really get the hang of this flying business one of these days but while he could use his ki to bounce around in the heat of the moment, actually traveling as such did not settle with him. It was a bit like driving a car maybe. He couldn’t do that either and had even fake licenses removed from his possession. Flying was like human catapulting…Fun for sure! But for convenient travel? There was probably a better way of doing it. He walked now, through the rocky terrain until a figure appeared in the distance. His ki was suppressed and he let it out now, just to the extent of an average earthling. Feeling he would be easily spotted then, he lifted his hand in greeting only to realize the far off figure was very familiar in his coloring and odd hat...Oh shit. 316/316 |

What was he going to do? Had he exhausted all other options, or had he just exhausted himself? The shadow of the pillar had grown, stretching out to join its brethren. My, my, where did the time go? And there he was, just standing there with a mind as blank as ever. Even movement was too much of a hassle at this point. It was like quicksand; this he had a vague notion. He could try to escape, but here he was, just sinking and sinking, with any sign of struggling just pulling him down further down, down the rabbit hole— Someone was here. His mind was still murky, but his usual calculating self was beginning to bubble back to the surface. Juch stiffened; whatever laxness was in his previous posture had been thoroughly eliminated, and he swiveled around. Who was it? Who interrupted his idle thoughts? Perhaps it was some stranger stopping by, maybe it was a messenger from his competitors… … Why was he here? The backpack strapped to his person had unfolded in the presence of this uninvited guest. Golden metallic arms flared out, six in total, each with a sharp hook gleaming in the desert sun. Whomever the professor had expected—well, he was way off the mark. Tch, it was like that meeting opened up Pandora’s box or something. What was the meaning of this? What else did they want? Other than facing the red haired newcomer, Juch didn’t move from his original spot. His six other arms, however, flailed around the air in agitation, matching the glower on his face. His deep, guttural voice hissed over the passing wind, “…Mr. Cass.” ----- Juch Word Count: 277 Total Word Count: 277 + 238 = 515 |

Well, that was menacing, Yan thought as the man’s arms shot out. He did not stop walking though, making his way through the dusty plain to meet the man. It was a question now of who held his greater allegiance: Tomoko or Edge? His gut cried neither, but as always both had things to offer him in turn for service. He didn’t see how he couldn’t make this benefit both parties. Juch was a logical mind and surely coincidence would not be past him. It was a small world, a small galaxy. He stopped a few yards from him, his own messenger bag hanging loosely at his side, not nearly as impressive as the man’s backpack, at least it seemed. ”Good morning~” he offers in a slightly challenging tone, his mind falling on the man’s spiel the previous day. He didn’t pause at length though. There were more pressing verbal battles than the quality of the day. ”I’m actually not here for the sake of Tomoko Kuroda. She is not one for chase. If you do not come to terms with her proposals she will simply move on.” Once again, Yan spoke harshly of the commander. In comparison to the two girls of her crew who idolized the woman he felt to be the devil’s advocate, pointing out her flaws. His hand moved up and he patted the bag to his side to bring it to attention, not reaching for any of it’s contents, his eyes flickering over the metallic arms searching for malice. “I’m here as errand boy to Sei Edgen.” The name would be familiar to Juch, or so he hoped. While the scientist held a prominent position on Earth before the war, their refusal to participate in it was the cause for less galactic presence. Yet their presence on Earth and now deep in it’s underground was now broad spread. They sold their wares and supported certain groups of crime, and certainly had the morals of a scientist, buying illegally smuggled merchandise with the remainder of their swindled fortune. They were a wanted and private person so it made sense they would send someone else to him and yet, that it was Tomoko’s pick up-ee seemed quite the unfortunate circumstance. Still, if Tomoko had picked him up so easily, what could have stopped Edge from doing the same? The commander’s introduction of him was hardly praising nor screamed of his loyalty to only her. If anything it suggested she was waiting to regret her decision of keeping him around, maybe today was the day for that. 429 / 745 |

Juch let out a snort, more out of amusement than derision in return to the other man’s greeting, “You’re a sharp lad, Mr. Cass,” he spoke with a soft chuckle, but didn’t offer anything else. One of his actual hands found its way into his vest pocket, while the other began to rise up into the air. “Now, now, that’s close enough,” the way he threw his palm out was languid at best, although his other ‘limbs’ appeared to be in a different state of mind, “I wouldn’t want anybody to get hurt, y’see?” He offered no comment of his thoughts on the illustrious Commander of the Damaskian Army, but only a smirk to relay that he didn’t go temporarily deaf. Instead, he was focused on something else entirely, and even more so after Mr. Cass drew his attention towards it specifically. What was in that bag of his? Sei Edgen, did he say? From Sei Tech? Well, they had done some business in the past—reliable folk, they are. Hmm, does it seem like a lie, or could he be telling the truth? It’s hard to say; after all, it seemed like only the beginning of the story had unfolded, waiting for his approval. Well, might as well. “It seems like you have more to say,” the scientist offered with a cold smile, nodding towards the bag, “I’ll nibble; what’cha got? You don’t need to take it out, y’know--a peek is all I need for now.” ----- Juch Word Count: 248 Total Word Count: 248 + 515 = 763 |

”Plenty more surely,” Yan offers thinking of a varying number of subjects as he did. ”Edge apparently stumbled across something of your interest and happened to get the intel of your presence on Earth.” A peek he said. Yan obliged lifting the flap of the bag up and tilting it slightly toward him. Inside were some small glowing rocks. They did not feel like much, letting a soft hum of energy surround them but inside was stored an entirely different type of ki. He didn’t really get it, the whole thing far over his head, but it wasn’t the first offering of stones the eccentric scientist had offered him. It was almost a calling card, a gift and a question of meeting. At the least, it confirmed Yan’s story. He was a bit conflicted now though. If business with Edge dragged him away from business on Grace... ”You seem to be a popular man. Edge never said your name or I might have refused,” he explains, tilting his head slightly. ”I don’t find the situation all that delicate with Tomoko. It seems pretty straight forward, but I can respect asserting some distance.” It was only then that Yan remembered that Juch was a Keliouxian General. The man showed no recognition of him before and while he almost playfully taunted Tomoko prior did not toss her recent adventures on Kellioux into the fray as he could have. It was certainly a concern that should have arisen shouldn’t it have? Of course, Tomoko had moved quite fast. She was almost a mad genius when it came to overwhelming. It was possible he kept the card close to his chest still, or maybe he had researched it in the nice chunk of time they’d allowed him. Yan was pretty sure he liked Juch even as the man remained a purposely enigma. He almost didn’t want him to take the side of Kellioux on that small matter. Grace was an appetizing thing for such a scientist. For a man that did not truly understand loyalty to a country or planet, it was a bit beyond him to understand taking that priority before one’s personal interests but he knew it did happen. ”Especially when you were losing,” he adds, this time to purposely provoke. 379/1000+ |

“Hmm,” it was more of a growl than a passing drone of thought that accompanied the glare that Juch offered in exchange. Without any further comment on the contents of the glorified knapsack, he turned his attention back to the owner of the package. Ever so slowly, his other mechanical limbs began to calm down, the presence of the collection of stones so soothing and melodic. “Well, that’s Doctor Edgen for ya,” Juch tilted his head back in a wheezing cough that barely passed for a laugh, “He knows how I value my anonymity; yes, so he knows—how nice of him, even after all these years. I’ve only worked with him sparsely, y’know?” With another gasp, he set his gaze on Mister Cass once more, and it was the android this time that began to close the distance between the two men, “But I do wonder, how much do you actually know? Do you know me? Do you know yourself? Seems to me like you’re running in circles blindfolded.” “For somebody who’s not actually here for Tomoko Kuroda, you certainly do talk quite a bit on her behalf,” a hint of a sneer was there beneath that cordial smile, just a touch, while a silk white handkerchief was produced from inside the vest, “But clean up that dribble of garbage hanging from your lip; why try spitting venom when your fangs haven’t even grown in yet?” The cloth dangled in the air before it disappeared back inside his pocket, nice and folded, “I mean, what exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to upgrade yourself from a piece to a player in this game?” Juch’s grin widened, “It doesn’t seem like you’re ready; but that’s fine, I can play nice.” “Well, do you want to play…?” The crunching of sand ceased. “Mister Errand Boy?” The scientist leaned forward, with all ten Yan Casses reflected in his thick goggles. “Mister ‘Picked Up’-ee?” It may have been just the passing breeze that tickled the red head’s ear. “...Misteeeer Caaaaaaaaass?” ----- Juch Word Count: 340 Total Word Count: 340 + 763 = 1103 |
