The wind blew softly through the ravine where two men stood at what seemed odds. The man Juch was full grin standing quite close and bent to the shorter one. Still the red head did not move an inch backwards. Actually, he snorted. The snort turned into a full chuckle and he laughed. It was not malicious or harsh, but rather a good natured one of pure hearted amusement. ”Now who is dancing around blindfolded?” he asks cheerfully, not meaning it as a hidden insult as Juch had but an honest question. No, he did not know Juch but Juch did not know him. Tomoko had only given him half assed information on him and even if he had some idea of his time on Kellioux that wasn’t very informative either. He may look the little boy, and he revelled in playing one, but the twenty-eight year old had celebrated that year so many times over now it was almost ridiculous. He didn’t show any maturity now to the man though, still half a giggle and probably appearing even more the useless boy. ”I do want to play Juch,” he says this time leaning in to him, and if he hadn’t pulled away their noses would almost be touching. There was certainly a child’s lack of fear. ”With you, on Grace. I’m not trying to speak for Tomoko, Kais know that’s impossible to do accurately though I do have fun trying on occasion. I am her jester you see, and she my queen, but this right here is just between the two of us. A chance, an opportunity. Could you pass it up?” 290/290 (I will edit the gem/planet status appropriately depending where I am in the next two days) |

Juch had remained silent, his figure immobile while his six appendages hovered overhead, looming like a ceiling of spikes. A frown began to form—not one of displeasure, but almost of approval. A rumble emitted from the back of his throat as the white haired professor pulled back, his arms crossed, “Mmm…potential.” He trailed off for only a moment—his hands soon moved forward to clasp Yan’s shoulders heartily, “People like you are such a rarity nowadays,” Juch wheezed, evidently pleased at this turn of events, “You remind me of younger days.” “It almost seems too bad that you’re playing for Damaskia,” an offhand comment, and nothing more than that. “I’m an opportunist, Mister Cass,” the android turned around, clasping his hands behind his back as he widened the distance with a couple of slow, methodical steps, “But that doesn’t mean I need to throw myself at every chance that presents itself, y’see?” Was it the lowering of his guard that prompted the android to expose his back to the redhead—or perhaps, something else? “However, you’ve moved me with your dedication,” he continued, returning his gaze to Yan, a wide smile back on his face, “Maybe I’ll let you join in on this little game; say, say, have you ever played this variant of blind man’s bluff?” “It’s something that we played when we were kids,” Juch started to take steps back towards Yan, “We’ll start in the basement and turn all the lights off. And we’d play; not just the player who was ‘it’, but everybody would be stumbling around in the dark.” “Heh,” he snorted, “But that’s life, isn’t it?” “…so, if you want to play, then why don’t we help loosen each other’s blindfolds a bit first? Here’s something that your queen dodged during our meeting, but it may be something the jester could answer instead. After all,” he chuckled, “in some ways, the joker’s more powerful, no?” “Question: why approach me specifically? Why some random guy from Kelioux? Don’t you guys have your own science teams?” ----- Juch Word Count: 341 Total Word Count: 341 |

Yan waited for the sign his actions would be approved of or thought further insult to the man. He was almost surprised the approval went as far as to clasp his shoulders and he found himself liking the man more. He could lash out at him now, if it truly were a trap, or if he was just a mad man, but his words had struck where they needed to. He did not correct the man when he said he played for Damaskia because whereas that wasn’t true, far from it, he hailed from Toffit, lived the best years of his life on Earth, had caused as much trouble on Damaskia in long days past as his recent episode on Kellioux, but he knew denying it would do him no good. Where his loyalties lay were always to question but he did not need them questioned so early. As Juch continued Yan smiled very slightly. ”We called that ‘Man hunt,’” he explains, feeling the name more suiting especially to the game Juch was spinning now for the two of them. He did had many memories, far back in his teens of being out in the darkness of the woods, the canopy blocking out any dim light of the moon and you knew not friend or foe. It was always every man for himself. He thought of the man’s question knowing it did little to give him light in return, and yet, it was not a question with an answer so hidden he minded giving it. ”Why let a young man she knows little about except that he has with a bad history follow her around? Why allow a young experiment to fawn over her, a younger sister who knows not of evil?” he asks then smiles once more. ”Tomoko fights for Damaskia, it is her home, her pride, but she likes doing things at her own pace if you haven’t noticed,” Yan offers tilting his head a little as he does. If it wasn’t official and something went wrong well it was just the rogue mad gatekeeper, not a woman of country. What Damaskia didn’t know couldn’t hurt it, and if all went well the spoils could be brought to it. No harm, no foul. ”Dragging in a man who can help us decipher things, someone who is more than just another minion bound to get in the way...Well, I like Tomoko because we are similar~” he explains pocketing his hands with ease, almost expecting Juch to jump him for getting comfortable even though he himself had done the same. Well, he had not lowered the guard of his spiders yet. ”I’m sure she just finds it interesting.” 450/740 |

“Hooooooh? Is that what you call it nowadays?” the scientist leaned backwards, humming to himself, “‘Man Hunt’, huh? I guess it does have a nice ring to it.” His hand cupped his thin cheek, and with his elbow supported by his other arm, it appeared that the old man was contemplating this new name way more seriously than he probably should have. “Aah, I dunno, Mister Cass,” he finally spoke after a few moments, “I like Blind Man’s Bluff better. Old habits die hard, don’tcha know? Hee hee hee…” A sharp intake of air after the gasping that was his chuckle, Juch’s hoarse voice dangled over the passing breeze, “Ey, but that’s a nice tale you have there. It does shine lend some light to my path though, so I must thank you.” How much truth was in those few sentences that he received, Juch wasn’t quite sure. But it didn’t matter; information was information, and if he did take it at face value, then it held some interesting possibilities indeed. All he had to do was to verify it himself, and at least parts of it did make sense, which was nice. “Well, fair’s fair. It’s your turn now; go ahead, ask anything you’d like. Actually, in fact…” the light behind the lenses in his goggles faded, as if the android was closing his eyes in thought. They brightened up once more as he said, “Say, tell ya what, I’ll even throw this in; I can promise you that I won’t tell complete lies.” ----- Juch Word Count: 255 Total Word Count: 255 + 341 = 596 |

These days, he said. Yan wondered for certain if they still called it even manhunt. Rather than old habits dying hard, the world changed around the two of them. They could delve in their memories as much as they want, refuse to adapt but that did no one any good. Now it wasn’t like Yan was lying to Juch so his pleasure at him taking it well was mixed. He felt it was indeed better than explaining to the man Tomoko’s potential ambitions of universal domination, as it was often a thing people frowned upon, especially after such a large war. An ambitious woman was known to make the average man skittish in general so he withheld that piece for those reasons but also because he didn’t see it factoring in any time soon. Tomoko was not asking for Juch’s loyalty, she knew better than to request something like that so early. She just wanted to create bonds of power and link herself where she needed linked and of course, do the things that tickled her chaotic mind. It wasn’t a lie to him, it was one reason of many. Yan grinned as he was told it was his turn and further relaxed, leaning back on his heels in thought. What should he ask Juch? There were many things that came to mind, things tied into the mission on grace, his connections to Kellioux, to the lovely Adel, he was starting to miss that old bloke, or even how much he knew of Yan’s little bohemian rhapsody on Kelioux….But those didn’t quite interest him as much. Not just then. He lowered the bag from his shoulder setting the bag on the ground between them then looked back to Juch with a curious twinkle in his eye. “What’s the love of your life Juch?” he asks with a childish smile, knowing he would not be expected to ask something as strangely personal of the man. 325/1000+ |

To say that it wasn’t often that Juch allowed others to ask him any question that they wanted would be an understatement indeed. For whatever reason, however, he allowed this scene to unfold with his blessing. An invitation was sent out–to open the gates and allow the visitor into the front yard for a spell, but there was that disclaimer that this front yard may not be the actual property that the android had mentioned. But that was the deal. In a sense, the elderly professor was curious; what sort of question would Mister Cass ask in return? The thump of the bag—after it slid down the shorter man’s shoulder, and allowed gravity free reign of its fate. How fitting; the original reason why Mister Cass had approached him in the first place had now been discarded to the side—it was still an issue that they would address eventually, this the android had no doubt. But now it wasn’t the time for that. For it was a curveball that the mechanical being did not expect that struck him on the side of the noggin and silenced that annoying chitter chatter in his mind. “The love of my life…?” Juch repeated in a hushed voice. “Hmph,” a snort—an expulsion through his nostrils like any other, but served raw—any of those subtle tones or delicate flavors from his previous enunciations have now evaporated into thin air, and like his previous stance in negotiations with Tomoko’s group, it was noncommittal. Because honestly, that was what the large picture was all about. Because from his point of view, the situation was far too strained; he was relatively sure that it wasn’t a trap now, but if word leaks out about this entire situation… Two high ranking military personnel having a secret conference—the resulting fallout could make Juch actually shudder. If he was going to go through with this, then it was something that he needed to make sure—that nobody else would know except for a select few. He only confides in his inner circle as well, but a leak could be just as accidental as it could be purposeful. And he had to make sure that the ship wouldn’t sink before it finished its maiden voyage. He turned his attention back to Mister Cass, “Mysteries; creating and solving, whatever the kind, I need them.” Was it a lie? Well, it couldn’t be a complete one, right? After all, Juch guaranteed it. ----- Juch Word Count: 414 Total Word Count: 1,010 |

Yan waited for the answer, pleased by the first reaction and wondering if the question required thought from the man. It was one of those questions that could require thought, he wasn’t sure he himself could answer it, but Juch was a wiser old man then he was. Yan was actually almost certain his mind was back on Tomoko rather than giving him more careful thought. That was fine, it was the end goal after all, and when Juch answered properly Yan smiled a mischievous smile. Whether it was the true love of Juch’s life was to question, but he did not doubt that there was love for it and that was what he sought. ”Then I will see you on Grace,” he says in a matter of fact tone. ”A sentient planet that moves on it’s own throughout the galaxy, uncharted, undiscovered--what better mystery can you find? Surely, it is worth the risks.” It was a fair point, Grace had much more to offer than Tomoko, and Tomoko still had spoils and mystery herself. The man did not say Kellioux or his duties, and if it was only fear that held him back well, surely taking risks for the things one loved was the point of life, or at least the point of a good one. He gestured to the bag and nodded for him to take it. ”From Edge, with regards,” he says with ease, a tone of finality sinking in. He gave Juch a small theatrical bow then he turned on his heel, letting it scraping against the dirt, away from Juch and without worry, his hands returning to his pockets. ”But that guy, they’ll be here when you come back,” he says without looking over his shoulder and starting the long walk back. ”A traveling planet waits for no man~” 1000+ |
