Whis opened his eyes to a bright light. Where... Where am I? he thought to himself. He was still in a state of shock after getting his powers stripped from him. Looking around, it seemed like he was in the middle of a forest somewhere. He was in a clearing, but obviously not a natural one. He frowned as he saw the edges of the clearing burning with a pale blue fire that was starting to die off and the ground underneath him had a large circle with symbols surrounding it burned into it. Looking up at the trees, he slowly floated up in order to get a better idea of where he might be. "At least I can still fly," he mumbled to himself. Sure, he was bitter that his powers had been stripped from him, but maybe the life of a Traveler wouldn't be all that bad. He knew that there had only been a dozen or so among their order, but at least he would get to actually explore the universe instead of just waiting on Lord Beerus. His mood soured again as he thought of the god of destruction and how he would be overseen by Cide now. There was something about him that Whis didn't much care for. At any rate, breaking out of the treetops, he saw a city off in the distance bordered by an ocean. This must be Earth, he thought rather pleasantly. He didn't want to go into a densely populated area quite yet, however. Not until he had figured out the extent of his remaining abilities. Scanning the area around him, he noticed a small town, not much more than a village really, only a few miles away. He figured that would be a good place to start his journey and he took off flying toward it at a leisurely pace, trying to soak in the beauty of the world around him. |

A few minutes later, he was just outside the edge of town. Not wanting to startle any of the inhabitants, he lowered himself down to the ground behind a small hill. I wonder... he thought to himself. The people of earth were probably used to aliens visiting by now, so he probably wouldn't startle anyone too much with his appearance. Despite this, he figured now was as good of a time as any to try and see if he still had access to his ability to transform his appearance. Focusing on his energy he let it flood over him, shaping it around him to give off an illusion of him being human. When he looked down however, he still looked exactly the same. Well it was worth a shot. Stepping into the town, he noticed a young human boy crying behind a small house. Concerned and slightly curious, Whis walked over to him and waited for the boy to notice him. After a few seconds, the boy looked up at him, surprise written on his face but strangely enough no fear. He seemed just as curious about Whis as Whis was about him. Putting on a smile, he bent down to look the boy in the eye. "Well hello there," he began cheerfully. "What's your name?" Sniffling, the boy seemed to size up this newcomer. "I'm Jonathan," he answered, sticking his hand out toward Whis. Whis blinked as he looked at the boy's hand. Ah, that's right! Many different races have this custom, which I believe is called a "handshake," he thought in wonder. The boy was staring at him, probably wondering why he hadn't responded to his gesture. Whis quickly reached out his own hand and grabbed the boy's. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Jonathan. You can call me Whis." As he shook the boy's hand, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. He was actually having a handshake with a human on Earth. "Whis? That's a funny name," the boy laughed. "Are you an alien?" he asked curiously. Whis had to think for a second about how to respond to that. "I'm just... Whis," he settled on responding. Glad that the boy seemed to be in a more cheerful mood, he was still curious as to what had been bothering him before. "So, Jonathan," he began. "What were you upset about when I found you?" The boy's face fell and Whis felt a twinge of regret for asking. "It's my dad... He grows all of the food that the town eats so he's really important. Unfortunately, a group of insects came in and ate all of the crops. Without them, the town will starve." Looking back up at Whis, tears had begun to return to his eyes. "The men my father hires to do the planting won't come back out here for another few months but if we wait that long to plant, the town will run out of food." Whis stood in silence for a few moments. He couldn't just leave the people in this town to starve and he felt a twinge of excitement at the thought of doing actual work. He hadn't ever had to do manual labor before, so it would be interesting to experience. "I would certainly be able to provide some assistance if you would show me what I need to do." Jonathan's eyes lit up. "Really? You can?" Whis nodded, smiling at the enthusiasm of the young boy. "Quick! Follow me!" Jonathan took off running toward the field. With a quick chuckle, Whis walked after him, making sure to keep him in sight. |

Once they reached the field, Whis examined its contents. There were many dead plants scattered across the entire field and Jonathan was running around picking up the remains and tossing them in a pile just outside the fence that surrounded it. "Come on, Mister Whis! We have to clear out all of these dead ones first!" Whis couldn't help but smile at the enthusiasm of the young boy. He considered himself a rather carefree individual, but even he was outclassed by this child and he wondered if all human children were this excitable. Still smiling to himself, he began cleaning up the remains of the plants as well, tossing them into the pile that Jonathan had made. Half an hour later the field was completely waste-free. Jonathan sat down, exhausted, and Whis himself had to wipe his forehead from the sweat that had built up from the hot day. Whew, well at least that's done. I wonder what we have to do next. After a few minutes of rest, Jonathan jumped back up to his feet. "Okay, now we have to dig a little hole like this," he said as he stooped down and grabbed some of the soil, leaving a small hole behind. He then took a few seeds and dropped them into the hole before carefully covering them back up. "Then you put the seeds in and cover it up like that. We need to get this whole field covered so it'll probably take at least a few days but my dad should be able to come help us out tomorrow." Whis looked around at the field. It was definitely a large area to cover and he wasn't sure if they would be able to do it in less than a week even if it took less than ten seconds to plant and cover each hole. Nevertheless, he got to work planting. "This sure is a big field for such a small town," he commented. "Yeah, we usually try to make sure the town has enough to live off of for the year, plus enough extra to put into storage for at least a few months. Anything that's left over, we sell to the city so that the town can afford other things." Whis nodded, amazed at the amount of work that went in to providing food for people. He loved food more than most people, but he had never really seen where exactly the food came from. He just got served food by royal courts whenever he had accompanied Beerus somewhere. It was an eye opener for sure and he knew he would have to appreciate the food that he ate even more now. The hours passed and eventually the sun began to set. Jonathan looked up at Whis and smiled with a look of exhaustion. "Well, Mr. Whis, I have to go home now. I can meet you out here again tomorrow though with my dad and we'll keep planting." Whis nodded. "I suppose I'll see you tomorrow then." As the young boy ran off, Whis called out after him. "And just call me Whis!" Turning to look around the field again, his spirits sunk as he realized they had barely made a dent in the huge field that would need to be planted. Well, this isn't going to work. There simply MUST be a better way to do this. Suddenly, an idea came to him. He still wasn't quite sure how much of his power he still had, although surely he would have enough to use to get this done. Glancing around to make sure nobody was near him, he started to float up high in the air, taking the huge bag of seeds with him. Once he had reached what he felt was a suitable height, he closed his eyes and began to focus. Feeling the energy inside of him stirring, although it was only the faintest shadow of the power he had once commanded, he let out a large orb that floated in the air next to him. With a deep breath, he clenched his fist and the orb shattered into hundreds of tiny bolts of energy, which rained down around the entire field and created hundreds upon hundreds of the holes that they had been digging before. With a sharp precision learned from millennia as a martial arts instructor, he started to throw the seeds down to the ground, aiming and hitting each individual hole that he had created. In a few minutes, the entire field had been sown with the seeds that he had been given and all that was left was to cover the holes back up. Smiling to himself, he lowered himself back to the ground and began to meditate, as he had no need for sleep. The next morning, Whis's meditations were interrupted by Jonathan. "Good morning Mr. Whis, are you ready to-" his voice broke off as he saw the work that had been done by Whis. "How did you do that???" he shouted with glee. Whis smiled and simply shrugged. He didn't exactly want to give away his abilities just yet for fear that he might be branded a freak. "My dad went to go get the tractor that can cover up these holes. Now we can be done in just a few hours!" Whis looked down at the boy. Such enthusiasm, such a passion for life. He will make a difference in this town when he grows older. Looking the smiling boy directly in the eye, his face took on a more serious appearance. "I'm afraid I have to leave now, Jonathan. I can't stay in one place for very long anymore and the path is calling me away." Seeing the smile fade from Jonathan's face and tears beginning to take hold in his eyes, he put his hand on his shoulder. "Maybe someday we'll meet again. I can see that you have a pure heart and a strong will. Those two things together will make you a formidable power when you grow up." With that, Whis turned around and began to walk out of the village and toward the city. He had enjoyed the time spent here, but he knew there would be more things for him to learn in the city.
