Master Roshi has taken you under his wing. After training with him for awhile he gives you his trial. It will be an intense mental and physical gauntlet. Only his best students have survived! ----- Master Roshi’s training grounds. They were once known for housing legendary martial artists. The sounds of thudding strikes against punching bags and metal weights clanking, the distance explosions of students practicing their ki blasts, all sounded together as if they were a part of an orchestra. The sparring rings were covered in sweat and blood as students tested their abilities against one another. In the sight of any aspiring martial artist, this would have been a glorious spectacle to behold. However, the training grounds were now silent as old bags hung loosely, weights rusted and the sparring rings were now empty. The symphony had ended, and the grounds now stood as a pale imitation of what it once was. Yet, in the midst of desolation, there sat a student. A weighted cape clothed over his shoulders, wearing a brown sleeveless gui, Tohru sat crossed legged in front of his master, the old hermit known as Roshi. Tohru was one of two fighters that had convinced the retired master to train them. Despite agreeing to train them, the hermit seemed reluctant in his teachings. When the two fighters were first brought to these legendary training grounds, they were excited to have left the small island known as Kame House. However, after being tossed a large purple turtle shell each, the old Hermit seemed to abandoned them as he took to watching continuous hours of workout videos for women. The other fighter, known as Kaito, had grown impatient with Roshi, and decided to leave to go back to his original school of training. Tohru wasn’t quite sure why he did not leave as well. Was it perhaps because he had nowhere else to go? Or was there something within the old hermit that kept Tohru staying? Certainly the fact that Roshi had trained Tohru’s old master, Gordo, kept Tohru interested in the old man. In all of his journeys, he had only met other martial artists who had fought against Gordo, never trained alongside, or even taught his old master anything. Yet, Tohru could hardly imagine that this washed up old pervert could truly be his master’s sensei. Gordo had been killed eight years ago, by a demon now known as Kang. Tohru had just recently had an encounter with the demon, and lost…badly. Tohru had hoped that Roshi would be motivated to help Tohru find and kill Gordo’s assassin, yet the old hermit simply scolded Tohru on being involved in an underground tournament. Throughout his entire time here, Tohru had never received one inkling of help from the old master in regards to his Sensei’s death. However, after days of pestering and some insults, Tohru had finally managed to convince the old hermit to get involved in his training. Now Tohru sat atop a ring spewing with weeds as his old master stroked his thick white beard. “Tohru, I know I haven’t exactly been personally involved in your training here, so that’s why…” Roshi looked deeply at Tohru, “I’m sending you to train with one of my older students.” “WHAT?!” Tohru shot up. He glared at the old hermit, “I asked for you to train me! I didn’t come all this way, run so many damn laps with that damn turtle shell just for you to send me to someone else!” Roshi laughed nervously as he rubbed the back of his bald head, “Yes well I understand your frustration, but in order to truly begin your training with me, you’ll have to complete a certain trial of mine. I want you to learn a new style known as ‘Wolf Style’, and you’ll have an entire week to learn this style and then I’ll have you demonstrate it during a sparring match with a veteran fighter. If I feel you have adequately learned this new style, I’ll move you on up to the next level of training.” Tohru raised a brow at the man as he crossed his shoulders, “But I already have a style, the ‘Iron Fist’ Style, taught by my master Gordo. You know this right?” Roshi’s expression suddenly darkened as he returned his hand to stroking his thick white beard. “Tohru, as much as this may offend you, it is important for you to find a new role model to guide you in your fighting style,” Roshi stated. Tohru raised his brow in a curious expression. “What are you implying?” Tohru inquired. Roshi hesitated with a hand still tugging at his beard. He seemed to be in a deep focus as he formulated his next words. “For years you’ve been using your master’s ‘Iron Fist’ Style, but I can tell from previous experience that you’re ability is nowhere near his own. Unfortunately, he is no longer here to guide you in the way of ‘Iron Fist’, and-“ “Don’t!” Tohru barked out, a shaking fist extended towards the master, “I’m not abandoning my master’s style to become extinct!” Roshi’s brow curled forward as he brought his stroking arm to his cane, leaning forward onto it with both hands, “Tohru, in order to move on to the next stage of training, you need a style that is complete. Right now, you have a limited knowledge of the ‘Iron Fist’, and there is no master left to teach you that style.” “No one left? But you said you trained my master, and that he learned his style from you, so that means you can-“ “No!” Roshi stamped the ground with his cane so suddenly it caused Tohru to slightly jolt back. “Your master took the basics of one of my styles and transformed it into his own, I have no knowledge or skill in his specific style. When your master died, he took the secrets of his style with him,” without relaxing his stern expression at all, the hermit continued, “That’s simply something you must come to terms with! You will never reach the same level that he was once on!” Tohru snarled with his teeth bared, his fingers cutting into the palms of his clenched fists. Yet, there was such a striking truth to the old hermit’s words. His master was gone. Tohru had faithfully continued to train and practice in his master’s style, but lacked direction in doing so. Seeing that the Demon Hybrid’s anger was diminishing, Roshi’s posture began to relax as well. “You’ll never be able to reach a higher level of fighting if you continue to use your style. I know it’s a heavy sacrifice, and there may be one day where you might be able to return to it and make use of it, but you must take on a new fighting style,” Roshi nodded firmly, “But take what you have learned from your Master Gordo, and use it to enhance your new fighting style.” With that, the old hermit gave Tohru the directions to Katsuo’s training grounds. They were apparently located deep within the forest. Tohru powered up his bukujustu and flew off. ----- WC: 1,158 |

Tohru halted in his flight as he found himself hovering above a small dense forest. Studying the treetops, he found a clearing located right in the middle. From where he was, he could only see a river flowing through the gap, it passed through the entire forest itself. The Hybrid had been told that the master he was looking for was named Katsuo, and that they supposedly lived within the only forest located on the large island. Tohru descended down into the forest through the clearing of trees. From high up, he was not able to tell how tall the trees were, and they were massive. The trees appeared to be redwoods, their massive roots ripped out of the ground. Tohru’s ears twitched as he sensed a rushing power level. He turned to face it as he was descending, but the Hybrid was not quick enough. A shadowy figure nailed Tohru right in the chest with a flying kick, sending the Hybrid careening down and splashing into the river. His limbs flailing around in the sudden cold liquid of the steam, Tohru pushed himself up, forcefully splashing the water with a swing of his arms. He growled as he searched for his foe among the forest grounds. A lighthearted laughter could be heard echoing throughout the trees. “Show yourself!” Tohru cried out. His eyes then suddenly picked up a movement in the branches above. He quickly brought up his guard and began to slosh his way out of the steam. His weighted cape tugged ever more tightly on his shoulders now that it was weighed down by the excess water. The creaking of the branches above resounded as leaves began to lightly fall to the floor below. Tohru lowered his stance, assuming he would have to play defensively until his opponent attacked. “Don’t tell me you don’t have a ki attack?!” the same voice from before bellowed out. Tohru snarled at the insult. “Come out you coward! I have no time for your games!” Tohru declared. There was then a loud snapping sound above, Tohru glanced up to see a orange and blue gui wearing fighter standing amidst the branches. The figure leapt forward, flipping impressively several times before landing gracefully on the litter ground of fallen leaves. The figure raised up their head, and Tohru saw the identity of his attacker: It was a girl. Her face and body seemed very youthful, yet her sleeveless arms were bulging with defined muscles. Dirt covered her body, and her own gui had small rips and wears embedded within it. Her dirt covered face shot up with a fierce smirk, “I’m assuming Master Roshi set you here.” Oh no, don’t tell me… Tohru thought, “You’re Katuso aren’t you?” The girl proudly smirked with her arms crossed, “Yup, and you don’t look too happy about that, why is that?” “Honestly, I wasn’t planning on being trained by a little girl, no offense,” Tohru stated flatly. Katsuo’s smirk seemed to take on a more menacing look as her brows furrowed with agitation, “Well, I didn’t ask to train a meathead such as yourself.” “Meathead, really?” Tohru said with a smirk of his own, “That sounds like what a little kid would say to a schoolyard bully.” Tohru heightened his Sense abilities, and found that her power level was roughly around 2,000 high. Quite impressive for someone her age, which Tohru was assuming was either 16 or 17. But it was still lower than Tohru’s even before he began his training with Roshi. Damn that old hermit! He continues to waste my time, first with that damn turtle shell, and now with this little girl? Is my week of training supposed to include babsitting? Tohru thought to himself as he began to ponder his current situation. Katsuo seemed to almost read Tohru’s thoughts, or at least interpret the disappointed expressions on his face. She then threw her arms off to the side and shrugged her shoulders, “Alright Meathead, I’ll make a deal with you, since it’s obvious you don’t wish to train with me. If you can hit me just once, or even lay a finger on me, I’ll let you do whatever the hell you want for the week you are supposed to be training.” She began to walk closer to Tohru, raising a finger into the air as if to make a declaration, “However, I manage to knock you on your ass for a total of three times before you are able to hit me, then you’ll have to do everything I say, no matter how ridiculous!” Tohru scoffed with a chuckle, “Are you serious? I only have to hit you once?” “Yup, just a good clean hit, anywhere on me will do,” Katsuo said with a proud smile. "Well, if that's all I have to do, then you got yourself a deal. If I lose, I'll even braid your hair for you cupcake," Tohru mocked. However, Katsuo seemed to giggle at the remark. “Oh, you might want to consider chucking off that soggy Weighted Cape you got there, it’s just gonna slow ya down.” Tohru ignored the girl’s advice as he lowered into his signature fighting stance, his weight distributed mostly on his back leg with his rear hand chambered by his hip, his left open palmed hand extended towards his enemy. He noticed that Katsuo was studying his stance intently. “Good,” Katsuo stated, “Your stance is similar to the one I’ll be teaching you. I can now see why Master Roshi wanted me to teach you.” Katsuo’s playful expression morphed into a more stern, yet still delightful looking expression as she lowered into her own stance. Her feet slid far apart as her hands snapped into place, one hand extended outwards and one tucked near her head. Both palms were opened and fingers were curled, making the open hands appear to be claws. The warriors stared each other down for several seconds. Katuso seemed to read that Tohru was waiting for her to go on the offense, so she launched forward with swift feet. Tohru wasn’t surprised at her speed, even for her young age, she was a very light figure and seemed to have trained before. Tohru smirked, knowing this fight was going to be over with soon. He began to shift his weight as he raised his rear leg into a thrust kick to catch Katsuo as she came in. However, the wild girl roared forward with her hands swiping in a fury, as she did, what appeared to be a large wolf suddenly ascended over her shoulders and leapt toward Tohru with snarling jaws. The Demon Hybrid halted in his attack as he brought up his hands to guard the attack. The wolf then fell straight through his extended forearms as if it were a ghost. What the- Tohru’s thoughts were halted as he felt a tremendous pain within his torso. Katsuo had slipped under his guard and landed a powerful palm heel to his sternum with her rear hand. She growled aloud with a fierce tone as she unleashed a flurry of hand strikes upon the demonic warrior. One final palm heel to the chin of Tohru sent him tumbling backwards, finally landing near the bank of the stream. Tohru lifted his head up from the dirt to see Katsuo swaying her hands around, inhaling deeply as she did. The forest warrior then slid back into her previous stance with one palm heel extend outwards and the other by her face; that proud smirk from before was beaming brighter than ever on her face. “Illusion Wolf Fist, an advanced technique of the Wolf Style! With my guidance, even you could one day be able to pull of this technique, you know, years from now!” Katsuo proudly taunted, “Oh and that makes one fall out of three! Not doing too well Meathead!” ----- WC: 1,314 TOTAL: 2,472 |

Tohru stood up in a rage, he almost blindly charged forward, but felt the tugging of his Weighted Cape at his neck. He gripped onto it tightly and then chucked it over his head and onto the ground, causing a large dirt cloud to form from its weight. The Demonic Warrior then raised his heels up and began to bounce on the balls of his feet, his hands raised loosely in a guard as he began to move slowly towards Katsuo. He was impressed by her technique, and even though he did not have something to match it, he was still proudfully betting that he was going to win this wager. As Tohru got within range of Katsuo, he began to throw quick jabs at her, testing her defensive abilities. Her hands moved with an almost blinding speed, swatting away each strike from Tohru. After a quick succession of jabs, Tohru then swung his back leg horizontally towards the young girl in a round house kick, yet the girl simply leapt over his swinging leg with grace. Tohru was quick to continue his advance, and carried the momentum of his kcik into a backfist towards Katsuo as she landed. The Forest Girl quickly caught Tohru’s fist, gripping onto it tightly and then sliding herself closer to his torso. Grabbing onto his arm with her other free hand, Katsuo threw the large warrior over her shoulder as if he was half his size. Tohru cursed as he summoned up his black aura, using his ki to prevent him from hitting the ground by hovering just above it. He then recovered onto his feet, turning around with his guard raised towards Katsuo. “You really had to use Bukujustu just to recover from that? Looks like you need a hell of a lot more time than just a week to train with me!” Katsuo laughed. Tohru was filled with anger as he threw all caution that he should have had, and rushed forward, sending a storm of strikes towards Katsuo. The Forest Girl ducked and weaved through all the swinging hooks and striking punches. Her clawed hands cut and slashed at Tohru’s arms, yet the Hybrid was so filled with rage that he couldn’t feel the pain. Katsuo then stopped the Hybrid in his tracks as she weaved under a blow, spinning around and delivering a powerful reverse elbow strike into the stomach of Tohru. Saliva spat out the Hybrid’s mouth as he gasped out in pain. Hollering out, “SHORYUKEN!” Katsuo drove an upper cut with her rear hand straight into the chin of the Hybrid, sending him flying backwards and landing straight on atop his head. His vision shaky and blurring, Tohru slowly rolled onto his feet, rubbing his sore chin with one hand and the other grasped around his stomach. Katsuo had her hands placed proudly by her hips. “Bet’cha now you’re thinking, ‘Wow! Such an awesome and cool style! I wanna learn it now! Oh please Master Katsuo, forgive my ignorance from before and train me to be as awesome as you are!’” Katsuo imitated Tohru’s own deep tone as she spoke and then began to break out into laughter, like a school girl teasing a fellow classmate. Tohru clenched his teeth tightly as he rose up to his feet, but he then noticed that his arms were shaking. He glanced down at them to notice bloody claw marks among them, and could already feel welts and bruises forming. He then paused in his next steps, surprised by the Forest Warrior’s speed at dissembling his own offense. Her offense from before was incredible, and her defense is incredible as well…perhaps…she is stronger than me? Tohru had a hard time trying to comprehend that someone who looked so young could be this far above him in skill. Yet, if he was weaker than this warrior, how could he possibly be able to stand up to the man who killed his own sensei? No, you are stronger than her! You’re just letting her take advantage of you! Tohru assured himself. He took a few relieving deep breathes as he thought out a new battle plan. Her first technique was just a parlor trick, and you allowed yourself to be opened up for her counters in her defense! You rushed in too foolishly! There has to be a way around her style!” Tohru studied the warrior closely, allowing his Sense ability to rise up. Perhaps this would provide some clarity on her style. Tohru raised his guard up once more as he began to bounce on the balls of his feet. Katsuo ceased her teasing laughter as she raised her open palms once more into a stance. Tohru noticed that there seemed to be a powerful source of ki emitting from her hands. It must be giving her speed and even strength in her hand attacks. Tohru focused on her legs, and noticed that there was not an immense source of ki from there. So, her style allows her to increase the strength of her hand techniques…impressive, Tohru thought, Her lower section of her body must be her weakness. Tohru summoned up his ki and then launched himself forward, his hands held up high as if he was going to attack. Katsuo’s expression seemed almost disappointed with the Hybrids assault, she leaned forward in preparation of the attack. Reading her expression, Tohru could tell she was expecting another attack on her upper body. The Demon Hybrid then flew lower in just a split second, swinging one leg out towards her leg in a sweep. His aura blasting up fallen leaves from the ground as his leg swept towards her. Katsuo seemed surprised, but quickly leapt over the sweeping leg. Tohru spun around, swinging his other leg around in a reverse hook kick, sending his heel directly towards the torso of the leaping girl. Katsuo quickly clamped onto Tohru’s swinging leg and flipped over him, landing gracefully on her feet. Tohru did not hesitate in his next attack as he planted the balls of his feet deep into the forest’s soil, and then launched forward, throwing a series of low kicks towards Katsuo’s legs. The Forest Warrior seemed to understand what Tohru’s strategy was, and she kept herself at a distance, swiftly dodging all of Tohru’s strikes. While his long leg strikes kept her at bay, Tohru knew he was going to run out of steam eventually. He had to risk opening himself up for an attack. Even if he got knocked down on his ass again, he had to at least make contact with Katsuo. Tohru feint a low kick towards Katsuo, and as she reacted to it by leaping to the side, Tohru rushed after her, reach forward with an extended hand. Katsuo simply smacked the hand away, and then noticed Tohru’s other hand swinging down from below, a fist clenched tightly in an uppercut to her body. She was too open from her deflection of Tohru’s previous attack ot move out of the way. So Katsuo bent backwards with incredible flexibility, allowing the uppercut to careen upwards with no damage to her. Her legs then swung upwards, nailing the Hybrid on the chin, sending him collapsing on his spine in a cloud of dust and leaves. Tohru could taste the bitter tang of blood within his mouth as he slowly sat up, clenching his incredibly sore jaw. Katsuo stood, palms still extended in her Wolf Stance. She then relaxed, placing her hands at her sides. “Well, well, not bad Meathead! But that makes three for three, and we have a deal!” Katsuo stated proudly. “Whatever…” Tohru muttered. The childlike warrior grew a proud grin across her face, almost eliminating the fierce fascade she had earlier. “If it helps, just think of it as me repaying a debt,” Katsuo said. Tohru raised a brow at the comment, but before he could question her, Katsuo spun around on her heel, wagging a finger towards the forest as she hollered out, “Alright, playtimes over! Let’s go get started on our real training!” ----- WC: 1,349 TOTAL: 3,821 |

The week’s worth of training with Katsuo was intense. The young Forest Warrior had made Tohru endure horrendous exercises that involved his arm muscles. Several hundred push-ups, open hand strikes to boulders, and boxing with rocks strapped to his forearms, were all used simply as warm-ups. Despite the interesting words of ‘Repaying a debt’, Tohru had not had a chance during his training with her to question them. Katsuo constantly had him working, and Tohru was too exhausted during his breaks to inquire anything of the young warrior. Now, Tohru stood in the same worn down sparring ring he was in a week earlier, staring down an old hermit known as Roshi. Katsuo sat off to the side, watching intently as her young pupil was about to spar the old man. It was all part of one final test that Roshi had placed upon Tohru, learn a new style within a week and then demonstrate it’s effectiveness. Tohru glanced down at his swollen, blacken and bruised arms. Caked blood was still stuck on his fingertips, bandages wrapped tightly around the rest of his arms. Damn, I’m not even sure if I have enough left within to do this, The mere thought of striking with a hand technique was escruciating. Yet, the Demonic Hybrid toughened up as he lowered his stance, bringing both his hands to guard, one in front with an open palm and the other placed near his head. Still, despite the soreness and pain, Tohru was eager to try out his new style against a master who had caused him so much frustration over the past few weeks. Tohru smirked, “Alright Roshi, let’s see if you can withstand my new style-“ “That’s good enough,” Roshi stated as he gestured with a thumbs up, “You pass!” “What?” Tohru stated with a long expression on his face. “The merit of any good style can be seen within its stance. And it looks good enough to me! Although I had no doubts since you were training with one of my star pupils after all!” Roshi said proudly. There was nothing but silence in the air as Tohru stood dumbfounded, his arms aching as he stood in his Wolf Stance. Roshi cleared his throat as he waited to hear something from the Hybrid. As if to break up the awkward silence, Katsuo slowly began to clap sarcastically. “Well, we’ll begin your serious training tomorrow!” Roshi said as he began to walk off the ring. “WAIT A DAMN MINUTE!” Tohru hollered out, “I have spent an entire week with that she-devil over there smashing my fingers and fists into concrete! The only thing I’ve been looking forward to is this damn demonstration, and this is it?!” “Yup,” Roshi said with a simple nod of his head. Tohru let out a deep, frustrated sigh. “Whatever…” ------ QUEST COMPLETED WC: 471 TOTAL: 4,292 |
