The first inkling of morning sun peeked over the lip of the east facing window sill and spilled into the nearly barren confines of a quaint log cabin. A shaft of light formed and was cast on the wooden floor, acting as if it were a searchlight on the prowl as it slowly scanned across the planks, moving in time with the continuous rise of the sun. It stretched from corner to corner as it continued to roam, illuminating a handmade table and stool before moving to shine upon a lone chest at the foot of a makeshift bed. The flooding sunlight climbed the side of the bed and over the edge of it, rising up the length of the still body that occupied it until it cast its light upon his sleeping face. Almost instantly, his dark eyes started to blink open, nearly winced shut at first as they adjusted to the blinding light scorching them. That introduction of sunlight was all that was needed to wake the sleeping beauty. No groaning followed, no drawn out display of disdain involving rolling over and hiding away from the morning occurred; the man simply accepted it was time to wake up and embraced it. He rose to sit straight up in bed before pushing his long, sinewy arms into the air above his head in a stretch, his mouth wide in an awakening yawn as he did so. The next moment, he was on his feet and performing a routine of combined aerobics and stretches to loosen up his uncooperative body. He dressed quickly into typical training clothes and flew out of the cabin through the front door, intent on greeting the rising sun. With his hands resting on his hips and a bright, cheery smile stretching from ear to ear, the man absorbed the fresh start presented by the new morning. "Man! Would you look at that?! Another glorious morning!" He exclaimed while taking a deep breath, inhaling the scent of the natural woodlands that surrounded him on all sides. Aside from a collection of stumps that mark the location of the trees used to create the cabin, there wasn't much else to see--that is, with the exception of the crashed, rundown Behemoth-class spaceship just beyond the treeline. "What should I do today?" "What would I normally do?" he questioned. There was a moment's pause before he scratched his head at the inquiry and laughed. His laughter was meant to brush aside the notable lapse in his memory. "Oh yeah.. I forgot. I lost my memories. The last thing I remember clearly is waking up here in the forest." There was a hint of sadness to his voice, more than likely instilled by the idea that there was a great personal history he was forgetting. In reality, he could have been a layabout with nothing in the Universe to his name and no one to miss him. "Maybe if I take a moment to think really hard, I'll remember something!" A look of excitement flashed on the man's face with his exclamation. He dropped to the ground on the spot, falling perfectly into a crossed leg position with his hands resting on his knees. His eyes gently came to a close and remained that way as he attempted to slip into a trance through meditation. Well, although he wasn't familiar with who he was, it was easy to see that patience was not one of his strong suits. No more than a minute later and he was slowly peeking one eye open to look around, as if he was expecting something to physically manifest in the time he was concentrating. Okay, okay.. Let's do this seriously now. Along with his thought, he winced his eyes closed and strained to concentrate. His brows furrowed and his mouth twisted into an unattractive frown but that was about it. Nothing came to him except a headache. "Dang!" he shouted, opening his eyes once again. He rolled back onto the high points of shoulders and snapped his legs out, planting them on the ground while the rest of his body righted itself into an upright position. The man quickly dusted the backside of his training suit off before rolling his shoulders in a shrug. "Oh well! It was worth a try!" Without a care in the world, he proceeded to walk forward on a trail leading into the woods before him. |

The man without memories was standing before a tree, deep in the sanctuary of the forest. Not just any tree, though--the biggest tree he could find. It would not be an exaggeration to compare this particular tree to Yggdrasil. It was massive in height and width. The only thing curious about the scene was how the man appeared to be praying to it. In reality, he was mentally preparing himself for a feat of strength. His hands were pressed together in front of him, palm to palm, as he inhaled slow, deep breaths and exhaled. His eyes opened and he was staring at the tree and through the tree, simultaneously, trying to find a center of focus to direct his energies. Slowly, his hands peeled apart; the right one formed a tightly packed fist while the other turned its palm to face the earth below while still hovering about his waistline. His fist eased forward until his whitened knuckles kissed the coarse bark of the enormous tree. Aside from his controlled breathing, the only other sounds filling his ears were those you would normally find in nature; the song of birds, the hum of bugs, and the rustle of leaves on the wind. This was probably as close to nirvana as he would ever get. "HAAAAAAAA--!!" the man started to scream as he pulled his fist back, tensing the muscles in his arm and upper body as he did so. He was practically winding himself up like he were some sort of coil, waiting for the opportune time to spring. A very faint aura started to form around him, manifesting from the concentration of energy he was focusing--although he wasn't aware of it. It was a translucent white and flowed like ever changing water. "--AAH!" The wound spring sprung like a cornered serpent and his fist rushed forward in a short punch into the tree. His forearm had remained equally parallel to the ground throughout the entire transition of the attack--it was incredibly controlled. The crack of the blow echoed throughout the entire forest and no longer were those sounds of nature prevalent, they had all been dispersed by his tremendous battle cry. His aura dispersed. Nothing happened. At least, nothing happened immediately. His fist remained pressed against the tree where he had made contact and from that point, a crack formed in the protective bark. The crack spread through the bark and into the core of the tree, continuing on until it resembled more of a fissure than a mere fracture. From his hand, to the other side of the massive tree, a splintering line had formed and effectively separated the impressive piece of nature from its base. Gravity took care of the rest, pulling the towering tree to the earth from which it had grown. The ground thundered when the colossal giant kissed the dirt. The sound of the fall resounded with every tree in the vicinity. The entire forest felt the loss of one of its trees. About an hour later, the forgotten man was walking back into the camp with the enormous hunk of lumber resting across the width of his shoulders, supported only by what little his arms could wrap around and the strength of his legs. Once he was sufficiently out of the woods, he shrugged his shoulders back and let the giant tree drop. The same as before, it felt as if the Earth was moving beneath his feet when the tree struck. "Whew! That was heavy! I didn't think I was going to make it! I'm just glad I remembered the way back... that really would have been a pain." He used the back of his arm to wipe away the perspiration that had accumulated on his brow. As much as he wanted to rest, he knew the moment he plopped down, he wouldn't be getting up for the rest of the night. That wasn't an option when he still had so much to do. He turned to face the tree now and with the speed of an errant lightning bolt, he went about dismantling the gorgeous piece of lumber into several, smaller sections. Those sections were then split and quartered, rendered into an amount of fire wood that looked like it would have lasted a century. By the time he was done, he was just absolutely dripping in sweat from head to toe. Again, wiping his face against the cloth of one shoulder, he accidentally caught a whiff of himself. His eyes winced shut and when they opened, there was a look of disbelief on his face--you know, mixed with the look someone gives when they catch wind of a really rank smell. "Wow! Is that me?! I really need a bath! Geez, I'm glad Chi Chi isn't here--she would be nagging me for days!" He was waving his hand in front of his face to disperse the foul stench. He didn't even recall mentioning the name Chi Chi and had anyone asked him who that was, he wouldn't be able to tell them anything more. Pleased with the work he had done at camp, he turned and headed into the forest once again, following along a different path that would take him to the nearby river. Like he said--He really needed a bath. WC: 891 TWC: 1628 |

The sweet sounds of jovial whistling and running water flowed freely. In a creek that ran along the main river, the man was sitting waist deep in comfort of cold water, constantly cupping handfuls of the fresh water and splashing it on his bare body. His coarse hands roughly rubbed his exposed flesh with the chilled, yet refreshing water, cleansing his body of sweat, dirt, and stench alike. At a time when he believed he had sufficiently scrubbed himself, he took a deep breath and dropped back into the stream with a splash. Water rushed over him, constantly moving, never slowing--it was an entirely relaxing feeling. He could have been swept away in the current and wouldn't exhibit even a notion of protest. *Grrbbrrnnnm..* Now, that isn't to say that his body wouldn't have any issue with that and judging by the terrible grumbling echoing in the pit of his stomach--it took issue. He emerged out of the water with another terrific splash, which sent the cool water cascading and sprinkling all around him. His hands quickly went to his hair and messed it about, which only caused it to immediately spring back into the thick mess of spikes it was normally fixed to. "I guess it has been a while since I ate. No matter how much I eat, I always feel hungry! What I need is a feast! I don't think I'm going to find that out here, though," he mused as he looked around. Of course, in this stream and the river it branched off of, there were fish. Plentiful amounts of fish, to be exact. The problem was--he wasn't much of a fisherman. Now, while he made due with the talents he had, it wasn't exactly pretty. This would be another of those "not so pretty" moments. The man stood up from his seat in the water, only to reveal that he was without a shred of clothing. In all honesty, who took a bath with their clothes on? What transpired next was the most unflattering display of agility and tact that one could possibly imagine. The naked man leaped and dove at any good sized fish that made his acquaintance, doing his best to wrestle the writhing, wriggling dinner to his campfire. He missed. He missed a lot. There was a lot of splashing and what resembled a grown man acting the part of a leap frog but after a considerable amount of time, the man had finally wrangled a whopping bluefin into submission. It wasn't the most graceful display but how could you argue with the results? He hugged that big ol' fish like it was made of gold and started to make his nude way back to his cabin. Back at camp, night had fallen. A fire was roaring; the tips of its flames stretching for the starlit sky, and what was left of the bluefin was resting on a slab of stone beside the blaze. The majority of fish were its skeletal remains, as he had absolutely devoured the meat down to its very bones. It had been delicious. "Whew! I'm stuffed!" The nameless man had returned to wearing clothing, although it wasn't weighted like this training gear--no, he was wearing a brilliant orange gui with the kanji symbol for "Go" emblazoned on its back. It was familiar and it was comfortable. He felt at home within the comforts of its cloth and as much as that put him at ease, it also troubled him. It was hard to stay easy going and upbeat when you knew there was something you were forgetting. No one could be as happy as him. Everyone has their demons and he was certain that he was no exception. Tonight, though, he would be happy. He would let the fire dwindle to coals, head back into the cabin and retire his bed for a good night's sleep, hoping that his head would be filled with dreams of remembrance that would shed the fog of unknowing clouding his memories. Tomorrow was a new day. WC: 680 TWC: 2308 |
