Bardock watched the footage load up with a certain amount of impatience, which he refused to showcase while surrounded by so many people. A number of Saiyan commandos lingered around him in the command tent, their eyes glued to the screen and their tongues held in collective silence. Earlier in the day, a strange tape had been delivered to their doorstep, courtesy of the EDF and branded with a large logo. Bardock vaguely recognized it as belonging to the Capsule Corporation, one of Earth's mightiest conglomerates. He made no comment on recognizing the symbol while the tape began to play. From what he could tell, the tape started at a human dig site in the middle of a thick jungle. A single pyramid rose up into the sky on the horizon and blotted out the sun, inadvertently casting a shadow down on the dig. After a few seconds, a weedy looking man withdrew a tiny, black ball from the dirt. He wiped it off with his ascot and passed it to his fellow researcher, clearly curious as to what it was he'd found. "What do you think it is, Marcus?" Marcus held it up in the air for a second and tried wiping it off again, as if years of dirt would let itself be washed away by shitty cotton. He squinted at it and turned to the camera, pointing at the ball with a mixture of apprehension and excitement. "I think we've found one, Drake," he said. "One of those Dragon Balls." "Aren't they supposed to be orange?" Marcus tossed the ball back to Drake, who looked it over carefully. The ball was little and black, with a tiny blue star emblazoned on the center of it. From inside the depths of the little sphere, a distinct glow made itself known. Like the song of a siren, it drew the eyes of all the Saiyans in the room and clearly held an unknown influence over the archaeologists that'd unearthed it. Even when they passed the ball off to each other, they were uneasy about giving it away. Out of nowhere, the ground beneath the researchers began to rumble, and the dirt under their feet shook itself into a frenzy. The head of the pyramid in the distance slowly split apart and gave way to a rising disk made of gold and sunlight, which cast a dour glow down upon the jungle floor. Researchers turned to look up at it in fear and reverence, stricken by the glory of what must've been a once great situation. They shielded their eyes as an ominous figure, with spikes rising out of its back and pearlescent skin, stepped into the spotlight at the base of the disk. "I believe you have something that belongs to me," it said. The beast reached a hand out and extended it toward Marcus and Drake, who immediately dropped the ball in their hands. It fell to the ground and bounced once before rocketing toward the creature, embedding itself deep in the monster's hand. A sickening sound, reminiscent of a wall of bone breaking apart at the seams, echoed over the dig site while the beast arched its back. As if brought to sickening orgasm, the creature stepped forward with relief and dropped down to the bottom step of the pyramid. It spoke again, but the tape's fidelity suddenly faltered. The reptillian creature, whose voice sounded like rolling gravel, exploded into focus just before a burst of static took over the screen. The rest of the room straightened as the video faded out to black. 624 / 6,300 |

Gine woke up to the pleasant sound of birds chirping on this fine summer’s day. She rolled to get out of bed only to realize that she was already on the floor. Whoa, must have been a long night, she would think as she grabbed her bed post and lazily pulled herself up. She had definitely overslept, not that it particularly mattered since she didn’t have anything to do. She had spent the past few weeks exploring every facet of the planet by foot as she tried to learn more about what it meant to be human. Not that she particularly cared, but there were certain shadow arts techniques that she would only be taught once she had fully assimilated with human life. So what was she going to do today? The thought of going on a cruise or perhaps taking a nice walk around a local flower festival made her mouth water and her lips curl into a smile. She then frowned as she realized that she didn’t have anyone to go with. It was always an embarrassment to go to these venues only to be the only one there without a companion. And that’s when she came up with her master plan! I’ll go find Bardock! That fucker better still be here. Ignoring the fact that he had said he was here ‘on business,’ Gine slipped into a pink mini skirt and shirt combo before taking off in her car. She knew the general location that Bardock was staying at. She had visited him shortly after their recent fight to use his rejuvenation chamber. She didn’t remember much of the rest of that day other than being happy to know at least one person on this planet. The memory of how heated the two of them had gotten turned her ears red as she turned into the forest and navigated the rough terrain. It wasn’t long before she finally arrived at what looked to be some sort of camp. There were fairly large tents scattered about so she would check them one by one before finally walking in right at the end of the video. “Hey Bardock!” she would call out as she pushed passed the two men at the doors and made her way into the tent, “You busy? I kind of wanted you to take me somewhere today.” She had originally planned on approaching him and demanding for him to accompany her, but the serious looks on the faces of the other people in the tent changed her mind. Her tone would be rather sweet and more ‘womanly.’ She was already completely underdressed for this kind of meeting and didn’t want to embarrass Bardock any more than she probably had. _____________________________________ 454 1078 / 6300 |

Bardock finished strapping up just as Gine entered the command tent. He buckled his shoulder pads and turned to face her, his attention suddenly divided. On the other side of the room, a number of Elites were discussing the plan for the mission, which involved sending a low class squad to go investigate the disturbance and then a squad of First Class Saiyans to actually do most of the work. Bardock, naturally, was included with the list of Low Class warriors, once again due more to technicality than anything else. "Hey Bardock! You busy? I kind of wanted you to take me somewhere today," Gine said. A number of Saiyans snickered, but Bardock paid them no heed. Instead, he pulled on his boots and stood to full height before approaching Gine and putting a hand on her shoulder. She wasn't exactly dressed for combat, but he didn't suppose that mattered all that much. Bardock turned toward Captain Tucce, who looked passive, impartial to Gine's greeting. Bardock resisted the urge to scold her when he turned back and led her out of the tent. "We've got a mission," he said gruffly. The truth was, he didn't mind her greeting. She was his soft spot because of the fact that she was different than most Saiyans. She also wasn't a raging bitch, like ninety percent of Saiyan women. She was comfortable being herself, which was important. Bardock kept this in mind as the chilly wind caressed his bare arms and face. "You and I do." Bardock pulled a thin, holographic map out from his pocket and passed it to Gine. It was a map of the Kumungu Jungle, to the far South. It was about an hour's flight at his top speed. He had no idea how long it would take for the two of them to get there if he let Gine fly by herself. She was still recovering her strength. It would probably be faster to carry her. "If we finish fast, I can... take you somewhere," he obliged with a grumble, leaning forward to signal that it was okay for her to clamber on top of him. "Some kind of dragon tore up a dig site about an hour South of here. They're sending a squad to check it out in about two hours, but I don't want to wait that long and I don't want to be stuck with cleanup duty." 1,053 / 1,507 / 6,300 |

A mission? Gine would think as she subconsciously frowned at the thought of doing something dangerous for once. She felt a little guilty for having contributed little to nothing towards their finances during her time on Earth. When she did work it was generally doing stuff like finding lost cats or helping cook at a local restaurant. This would be the first real job she would have been on in quite a while. Hell, maybe she could afford to go on a lavish vacation if this thing paid as much as the Saiyan army advertised. Bardock would escort her out of the tent, probably so she wouldn’t have to the few in the room that dared to snicker. Perhaps their attitude would change if they knew about the meat cleaver she kept strapped to her back. She was glad that Bardock didn’t seem to mind her presence and was even happier that he invited her along. He gave her a quick rundown about what they would be doing and told her if they got a move on they could go somewhere together. Hopefully some place more romantic than a forest crawling with insects. With a grin that she couldn’t hide, Gine would toss a pink capsule onto the ground which would contain her combat gear. She would gracefully slip her gear over her less appropriate clothing and pocket the capsule. “Alright, but I’m holding you to it!” she would say as she lifted into the air and realized that her body still wasn’t ready for high speed flight. Her gentleman husband would see her struggle and offer to give her a piggy back ride, which she would accept without saying another word. The two would then lift up onto the air and fly towards the dig site. Their exit didn’t go unnoticed, but the others didn’t seem to give a shit since they weren’t meant to leave for another two hours anyways. The trip itself wasn’t too bad. Gine would have to squeeze her legs and arms rather tightly to avoid being tossed from the sky like a rag doll, but she managed to put up with Bardock’s ridiculous speed. It wasn’t long before they came across a rather large pyramid along with some sort of 20 meter crater. The crater itself had a rather intricate elevator and ladder system that was in complete ruin. “Is your scouter picking up anything?” she would ask not knowing that something in the area was scrambling electronic devices. If the as the two descended, they would see that several of the humans were still alive, but severely injured. Of these, only one or two would be able to recover if given the appropriate treatment. Perhaps one of these fellows would have something to say about all this. 918 / 1971 / 6300 |

A smoldering crater lingered in the place of the dig site, straddled by a lone elevator that led deep into a set of dying ruins. He and Gine immediately thought the same thing, and Bardock's fingertips brushed against the edge of his scouter. It tried admirably to pick up a signal, but it found no purchase amidst the crater. Bardock scowled down at it and descended, letting Gine off of his back at the lip of the massive whole in the ground. "Nothing at all," he said. Bardock prowled around the border of the crater for what felt like a long time, sifting through the crowd of disabled bodies without so much as a glance. The elevator that led deeper into the crater was broken down and decrepit. The odds were strong that he and Gine would've had a better chance flying deeper inside, but he wasn't sure yet on the best approach. He'd been considering digging a subtunnel when the cough of a researcher caught him off guard and righted his thinking. They would go straight in, together. He felt confident that Gine could handle herself and he wasn't exactly a slouch. If she slipped, he could cover for her. He had no idea what would happen if the beast were as strong as he was, but the odds of that happening were devastatingly low. Bardock placed a hand on his hip and turned to look at Gine, who'd slipped into her battle gear before they'd left the camp. "I'm thinking that we go in, paired up. You'll know the creature when you see it. Big, white thing with a set of balls in its gullet. Do you want to take the elevator or fly down?" Bardock gestured toward the elevator with a jerk of his thumb, very aware that it was in a state of disrepair. It might break while they rode it down into the remains of the ruins, but it was broken anyway. In the long run, they would find the creature no matter what. He could only imagine that the beast would try to guard its roost, as beasts were apt to do. He glanced around to the groaning researchers while the thought persisted. "We could interrogate some of these guys if you want," he grumbled. He didn't think it would help very much. "But I doubt it'll get us very far." A deep rumble shook the jungle floor and unsteadied him, forcing a unified groan from the researchers on the ground. Bardock caught himself a second before he would've fallen into the crater and forced his heels into the dirt. Birds flocked from the trees and broke off into the open sky, leaving the area while they still had the chance. He couldn't blame them. Whatever was down in the ruins was certainly pissed off. Considering the fact that the Kumungu Jungle's heat index put it at over a hundred degrees Fahrenheit, he couldn't blame it. Already, beads of sweat were beating down his brow and forming along his shoulders. 1,583 / 2,501 / 6,300 |

Gine would walk around slowly with Bardock as they checked out the scene. The scouter hadn’t picked up anything, but it was pretty clear that the beast had retreated somewhere underground. It was the only logical explanation for the intermittent rumblings of the ground. Another big giveaway was how most of the lifeless bodies were surrounding the giant hole leading further into the ground. Bardock asked her if she wanted to descend using the elevator or flight. To be honest, she didn’t want to do either of those things until she learned something about this thing. For all she knew it could burrow and would just make them sitting ducks. “Hmm,” was all she would say as she thought for a few moments. What an odd place to retreat to. Why not just fly away? Was there some advantage to being underground? Her thoughts were cut short by the sound of a particularly lively man who’s entire lower body was crushed by a giant rock. Gine would make her way over to the man and kneel by his side “We’re here to investigate what happened here. Is there anything you can tell us about the thing that did this?” The man stared back at her with a blank expression and responded, "we shot at it, but it didn’t even flinch. Although, if I remember correctly, it got particularly agitated when we fired an RPG into its stomach. It flew down there,” he would finish as he pointed to the elevator shaft. Gine would thank the man for his assistant and assure him that a medical team might be able to heal him if he held out for a few more hours. No doubt Bardock would have heard the man’s words and now it was time to decide how they wanted to proceed. “Let’s just fly. I think I can manage,” she would say as she levitated ever so slowly into the air and floated over to the hole. Gine waited for the most recent rumbling to stop before descending. As they lowered further and further, the two would see several pieces of what Gine could only imagine were part of a shell. There was no doubt in her mind that the monster had shed its skin for whatever reason. She only hoped that there was only one of them and that it hadn’t somehow multiplied. In any case, they would soon arrive in a dimly lit underground cave. The few lights that were still functioning flickered annoyingly but were good enough to show a small trail of shell pieces that led down one of the several different pathways. “I sure hope those shells aren’t leading to a trap” ____________________ 1366 | 2949 | 6300 |

Bardock descended into the depths of the pit with Gine, the words of the once-lively man ringing clear in his head. It didn't respond to typical human showings of strength or aggression, so that was definitely something. Sunlight gave way to darkness as the two Saiyans hit the bottom of the pit and were surrounded by a slithering mass of blackness. He extended his left and and cocked his wrist back, summoning a gout of blue flames that wrapped themselves around his wrist and illuminated the ruin. The light of the flames guided them forward and illuminated the husks of the creature they were hunting, but Bardock paid them no significant mind. He was well aware that they were being led through the ruins on purpose, despite the fact that the creature's attempts at fleeing looked haphazard enough to be genuine. The chill of the darkness overcame the muggy heat just as the two of them reached a fork in the path. The shells cut to the right, indicating the beast's path. Bardock risked a glance at the left pathway, his eyes narrowed, and slowly took his scouter off of his head. He dropped it on the ground and stomped hard, obliterating the device since it was now totally fucking useless. He could blow his way out of the place if he needed to. "I don't know what else they'd lead to," he replied. "It has to be a trap." Bardock lifted his left hand (which was still ignited) up to the left hand pathway and squinted, taking careful aim. His best bet at flushing the beast out was to fire off a large blast down both pathways. Eventually, it'd have to come out or risk complete obliteration. If it wasn't in the pathways, it wouldn't dodge the blasts and they'd know that they were free to continue. His ki whistled and groaned as it coagulated around his wrist. "I'm going to flush this thing out," he said. An instant before he could fire, a massive current of electricity exploded out from the right hand path and sent him flying backward down the shaft of the ruin. Bardock grunted and the beast stepped into the light, its surprise attack successful. The beast, with its back full of spikes and eyes full of hate, turned to face Gine next. It grinned and bared its glittering fangs. In the distance, Bardock stirred, but couldn't find the strength to rise. The creature'd sapped his power from him somehow; lightning rolled off of his muscles as he crawled across the ground, jetting into the dirt. "So much for that bright fucking idea," he thought. Luckily for them, Bardock had some way of lighting up the dim ruins. There was nothing more annoying than having to stare at this quasi strobe light effect and not being able to look away. She was about to use her power pole to put out the lights at a distance, but decided against it. If something were to happen, they would need all the vision they could get, especially with the scouter not working properly. Gine herself would have no means of producing light other than perhaps a feint glow when charging to maximum power. Bardock agreed that the shells were a little too convenient to trail to the dragon and for good reason. Perhaps the beast was going to bide its time in here while he finished shedding before making its way out into the open. They’d have to either stop it here or at least stall it enough for the other Saiyans to arrive. It better not be too strong, those assholes aren’t even going to get here for another 1 2/3 hours. Gine stared at the passageways, wondering what they should do next then saw Bardock lift his hand and look like he was about to fire some ki down the passageways. It wasn’t the worst idea; at least they wouldn’t have to look around on foot. Gine likewise squinted her eyes, looking for any sort of movement as she waited for the inevitable flush out. Then out of nowhere, she saw a blur of electricity-like energy which collided with Bardock and sent him flying backwards. Holy shit. The man’s body was too far away for Gine to see in the darkness and now she was standing still wondering why he hadn’t flown back yet. “Hun?” She would call back in a quaky voice as she drew her power pole and pointed it wearily at the silhouette of this white dragon-like creature. The beast left behind an afterimage and appeared right in front of the woman, towering over her with an evil smile on his face. “Ahh!” Gine screamed at the top of her lungs and squeezed the pole, willing it to extend as it had the other day in her fight against Bardock. The pole was motionless for a brief moment before shuttling forwards and colliding right with the creature’s stomach. It let loose a mighty roar and didn’t even budge. It had absorbed pretty much all of the force which meant that the only direction the pole could extend was backwards. Gine would let loose another scream as she started inadvertently soaring to the end of the ruin where she would see Bardock laying there. “Any ideas? I don’t think it likes getting hit in the belly.” The beast had started to walk towards them. It would be pretty obvious based on the low intense rumbles that would shake the ruins with every footstep. It had been somewhat slowed by the direct blow to its stomach area which was clearly a weak spot. Thinking back to what the human had said, even an Earth RPG was able to agitate it. 1882 | 3934 | 6300 |

Bardock struggled to clamber to his feet just as Gine came barreling down the hall after him, carried by the momentum of the strange pole that she'd used in their fight. Bardock eyed it with a little bit of apprehension and was about to bring it up when another rail of lightning brought him to his knees. Every time he exercised some of his power, the beast's attack pulled him back down. Nobody'd said anything about fighting energy ghosts, but then again, nobody with ki had fought the fucking thing yet. Groaning, Bardock tried to tough it out and stand again. "Any ideas?" Gine asked, clearly hoping to get the fight over with as quickly as possible so that they could get the fuck out of there in one piece. "I don't think it likes getting hit in the belly." Bardock laughed ruefully and came to a rest on his arms and elbows. Sweat poured down his forehead and pittered against the stone floor, exploding into tiny droplets that vanished into the rock. He couldn't think of a way to stand up without miraculously becoming a Super Saiyan, something that he'd never been super capable of. Super Saiyan was a gift granted to few Saiyans, but he was not among that admittedly rare number. "I don't think I can stand up," he grunted. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth, struggling on the floor. Already, the remains of his strength was fleeing the rest of his body, but he didn't yet know why. Was the creature an energy vampire? Or had it just debilitated him? Finding out was going to suck. "I need you to hold it off until I can get my power back. I don't know how long it'll be." His words were strained by his effort, and it was made more obvious by the beads of sweat that he couldn't hide or mask. Before he had the chance to speak again, the beast stepped out of the shadows, glaring down at Bardock from on high. The lightning circulating around his body illuminated the beast, and the seven balls that glittered in its belly. Gine was right, from what he could tell; the belly was this creature's weak spot. "You won't be bothering me much more," the creature said to Bardock. He then turned to Gine, face full of condescension. It was obvious that he was looking down on her. "And you won't bother me much longer." 2,502 / 4,384 / 6,300 |

Gine was horrified at the sight of her husband being so helpless in this situation. It was almost as if every attempt he made to use ki allowed the monster to damage him heavily. It seemed as though it was up to her to step up to the plate and stop being so helpless herself. She would breathe deeply as the beast spoke to the two saiyans and pretty much make his intentions to kill them clear. “Ha!” she would jeer, “you couldn’t even kill a few humans. What kind of dopey ass villain are you?” Yes, Gine was switching to bitch talk mode. If she had learned anything about city life here on earth, the best way to compensate for your shortcomings was to overcompensate with cutting insults. “One of those guys up there,” she would say as she pointed upwards, “they said you got hurt by one of their puny rockets! Come on, your weak spot essentially half your body!” Her words were definitely not helping the situation, but she was simply trying to buy as much time as possible. She knew she was no match for this thing, especially since she knew she was no match for Bardock. But what was she going to do? Bitch talk for the next one and a half ours? She needed to take charge of the situation and do what she could. Gine would focus her vision on the beast who lit the entire area with his sparkling electricity. However, before she could use her power pole once more, the dragon covered its stomach with his incredibly armored arms. “Ha,” the monster would say with a genuine chuckle. He would obviously be no match for Gine’s honed wit, but that wasn’t important now. “Let’s see you hurt me then. Soon enough my front will be covered with new shell and I will be impenetrable!” Gine took a low stance and tried to look for a weak spot and found not a single angle she could use to strike the protected stomach. She honestly thought her best chance was to just blow the whole place up and take the fight to the surface, but she didn’t even know if she would be able to fly with this thing’s anti-ki bullshit. Well, here I go. Gine would turn back and say, “Don’t forget you still have to take me somewhere after this. I have needs too ya’ know!” And with that, the saiyan would speed teleport point blank with the monster’s face and ram the power pole right into its face. Once again, it didn’t even budge. It was almost as if this thing was made of pure lead, which didn’t even make sense since she could definitely lift that much lead. Gine would continue to swirl around the creature, striking as quickly and effectively as she could at every conceivable joint and vital area but still couldn’t manage to break the defense. “That’s enough.” the dragon would mutter as he lifted his arm and swatted her from the air and onto the ground in front of him. Gine felt something crack, but it couldn’t have been serious because she was able to roll to the side and avoid a follow up attack. As she took a glance at its stomach, she could see that the armor was slowly starting to cover the stomach. It was now or never if Bardock wanted to take advantage of this small window of opportunity. 2460 | 4962 | 6300 |

Bardock grimaced while Gine dashed into battle, trying his best to focus despite the pain rattling his body. Jagged strips of blue light continued to dance around his body, intensifying in brightness and frequency as his struggle continued. He could feel the creature's energy entering his system and slowly shitting down all of his pressure points, forcing his body into a kind of paralysis that he couldn't describe. He'd faced off with some precise fighters in his heyday, but he'd never had most of his body paralyzed from the inside out. More sweat pooled beneath him as he closed his eyes and gathered his remaining ki into his forearms and chest. The blue flames around his wrist spread apart and covered him from the waist up, keeping the chamber that Gine and the beast fought in well lit. He inhaled in sharp, pained gasps while the creature's metaphorical poison spread through his system, sapping his energy with a slow drain. He flexed his muscles and roared, unleashing a jet of red flame from between his lips and scorching the stone. He tried to flex his toes, but nothing happened. With another difficult roar, Bardock reared back with his neck and unleashed a second geyser of flame into the open air. In the distance, he could hear Gine struggling with the beast. Her words rang in his mind, frustrating and loud. "“Don’t forget you still have to take me somewhere after this. I have needs too y'know!” A sharp crack opened the floodgates, and energy exploded out from Bardock's every pore. He screamed with power and frustration as the ki surrounded his body and coalesced into a single, contiguous flame. Gine rolled to the side to dodge one of the creature's attacks a second before her husband dragged himself up on the other side of the chamber. He could feel the remains of the beast's energy within his body, but there was nothing he could do about that now. Instead of dwelling on it, he glanced down to his hands. Bardock clenched his fists and the blue flames coagulated around his wrists. With his power once again at full capacity, he turned his attention to the still ongoing scuffle across the room. He could feel their two powers, vaguely, dancing in the darkness. His ki sense was terrible, but after spending time on Earth, it'd begun to develop over time. He couldn't make out any specifics, but he could feel the vague warring of two different energies. One power was vaguely sweet, albeit with a sinister undertone. Like a cupcake frosted with pure darkness, he could feel Gine's energy. The other power was a little less worrying; stronger, but more feeble, the creature's energy was pulsating and changing every few seconds. It was undergoing a form of metamorphosis, changing so that it could adapt and grow stronger than his wife. Bardock cocked his left wrist back and braced his forearm with his right hand, bringing together the twin flames. They raged on in defiance, laden with Bardock's energy. They congealed into a single ball that surrounded his fist. Dashes of electricity and stray bolts of ki jutted off of the surface of the ball as Bardock took careful aim. "Gine! Get out of the way!" he shouted. He stepped forward and pitched the ball of ki. It stretched across the space between him and the beast, streaking through the air and leaving a comet's tail of azure ki in its wake. The blast crackled and sung as it closed the gap, only to explode against the creature's chest. The beast's armor splintered apart as it was blasted backward by the force of the detonation and sent tumbling through a wall. He'd missed the mark, but only by a little bit. Bardock moved toward Gine at a casual pace to appraise the hole in the wall that he'd created. Swirls of blue ki continued to unwind themselves in endless circles around the rubble, excited by the presence of their creator. With a gentle whoosh, they condensed themselves into the Saiyan's aura and vanished. "Did I get it?" he asked, putting his boot up to the hole and clambering into the newly exposed chamber. When nothing emerged to greet him, he turned back to Gine and nodded his head. "Looks like it." The Saiyan scratched at the back of his head and reentered the main chamber, glad to have taken out the source of his frustration. "Now," he grunted. "Where're we going next?"
