The pink and orange sun touched the lip of the horizon, starting what is considered by most on of the most beautiful and romantic parts of the day, sunset. The evening air was mostly pleasant, with a gust of refreshing cool breeze one in while, making it a perfect day to spend outside. The day began with a blazing sun that seemed in a scorching mood, but as the hours past, and the sun neared the end of its rotation for the day, the temperature started to drop, giving the citizens of Satan city a much needed climate break. Goten was driving his car down the cost toward one of the beaches that were around his home city. It was a public beach that he and his brother found when he was a little kid, a considerably short distance car drive if you compare it to the other beaches that were in the area, and a very decent beach, offering everything someone who feels like going to the beach could want; life guard service, ice cream vendors, public bathroom ect'. Goten loved going to the beach. He used to go there every summer with his family as he grow up, and later with his friends. It was a place to goof around, splash in the water and run on the sand. Any where that running, jumping, screaming and yelling was a common thing was a place that Goten cherished. There weren't a lot of places left where one could act like a kid and not be scold at. At the passenger seat set Goten's girlfriend, Valese. The couple has been going out for about a year now and things started to get very serious. They already went out for their one year anniversary, but Goten found himself thinking how great it would be to surprise her with a romantic picnic on the beach. Thankfully, Goten was a curious child, and as a result, ended up exploring every inch of the beach from side to side. It was something that has gotten him in trouble with his mom more then once, but thanks to it he found an isolated part of the beach that no one seemed to go to. It was at this place that Goten planned their picnic date. Goten gave a quick glance toward the girl sitting to his right, looking at her expression as she was talking on the phone to someone from her school. He hated how much she was on the phone lately, it seemed like every time they were in the car together she was on the phone with someone else. Last time it was with a friend, talking about shopping or something of the sort and now it was with someone she was studying with for an exam. "It's just gonna be a quick call. Just gotta make sure of a few things." She told him when she got into the car. It was about an hour ago and she was still on the phone, something that made Goten a little annoyed. He kept his cool though as he didn't want to ruin their night out, as he knew that any action on his part to end the call prematurely could spark a fight that could totally destroy everything he had planned. They were nearing the entrance to the declared sea area when Goten suddenly took a left turn, leaving the main way to enter small dirt road whose entrance was almost invisible as it was between two thick trees. The car started to jump up and down thanks to the uneven road, making the two people in the car jump in their seat. Goten smiled inertly as Valese stopped in mid sentence as she noticed where they were. She quickly turned toward Goten with a questioning look on her face, apparently, leaving the main road has caught her by surprise. She waited until Goten gave her a reassuring smile before excusing herself and hanging up the phone. "Where are we going?" she asked as she placed her cellular phone back in her purse. "I told you. It's a surprise," Goten replied with a smile, happy to see that she was finally starting to take interest in something beside her studies. "I thought we were going to the beach." "Oh, we are. Just not what you had in mind probably. Trust me," he replied as kept his eyes on the road. It wasn't the perfect road one could hope for, quite the opposite, it was a bumpy and sandy path. The road itself became less rocky and more sandy as it got closer to the beach. The probability of the car getting stuck in deep sand was high as small send dunes gradually increased along the way. Goten made the drive down just this afternoon, making sure to notice all dangers spots that could trap his car. He got stuck a lot during the afternoon but used his strength to lift the car out of the dunes, a luxury he did not have now that he had his girlfriend in his car with him. Even with his previous experience navigating the wild and unpaved road, Goten found himself putting in way more effort then he thought he would need. Valese gave him frequent questioning looks, as if asking if he was sure he knew what he was doing. Goten returned her looks with a reassuring smile, his way of telling her that he did know what he was doing. After what seemed like a long bumpy ride, which really only lasted for about five minutes, they made it out of the sandy road and into a flat rocky lot, the sea just a couple of hundred feet ahead of them. Goten stopped the car in the middle of the area and took the keys out of the ignition, signaling that they reached their destination. They both got out of the car, with Goten heading toward the back part of the car, opening the trunk of the car and taking out a picnic basket, while Valese moved toward the ocean, stopping at the end of the rocky lot to glance down at the beach in front of her. The way from the lot to the beach was a downhill journey. There was no road of path to follow, just deep, soft beach sand that connected to the actual sand near the ocean. The way down wasn't too steep, though there was the danger of falling forward if one did not step slowly. A few tens of feet to the left of where they were standing, the sandy downhill part of the beach ended and in its place stood a cliff, about 20 feet high. "Welcome to your private beach," Goten said with a smile as he took Valese's hand in his and they both started making their way down toward the beach below. They reached the part of the beach that touches that water and stopped to look into the horizon. The sun was already fully out of sight, already made its way past the line of the horizon, but the sky was still colored pink and orange, portraying a beautiful painted scenario in front of them, as though a painter used his paintbrush to draw across the sky. Valese hugged Goten as they both stood and stared at the quiet sea beneath the colored sky. Then they took off their shoes and walked along the wet sand, enjoying the feeling of the water that came every once in a while to wash upon the shore. They walked toward the cliff, Goten's hand around Valese's waist and her's across his. They reached the front of the cliff and Valese let out a soft sigh of surprise as her eyes got wide. The front of the cliff folded inward, creating a small cave that was about 10 feet deep and 15 feet high. Inside the cave, dozens of candles were hanging from the rocky walls, illuminating the cave perfectly. On the ground, in the middle of the small cave, was a blanket with plates and wine glass cups. In the middle of the back wall of the cave was a picture of both of them inside a heart shaped frame. Goten smiled as he saw her shocked expression quickly turn into a big, sweet smile. She turned toward him and gave him a soft kiss, bringing her hand around his head to hold on to his neck. He returned the embrace, hold her around the waist and pulling her to him. When the kiss ended they both entered the cave and set down on the blanket, making themselves comfortable as Goten placed the picnic basket in the center of the blanket and started taking out everything that was inside. Once he was done, the blanket was filled with food, which included sandwiches and snacks, and a single bottle of wine. Goten smiled at Valese as he picked up the bottle of wine and smiled back at him. He looked all over the blanket, trying to find the bottle opener but failing to find it. He grabbed the basket and turned it over, hoping somehow that the wine opener would fall out. Of course, it didn't, as Goten already emptied it a second before. "Is everything alright?" asked the woman as she noticed that something was wrong. Goten was looking all over for something. "Yea, of course. Just can't seem to find the bottle opener, that's all," he replied, his eyes still moving all over the place. "Ohh, that's right," he said as realization hit him. "I forgot it in the car," he continued as he started getting up. "I'll go get it. It will only take me a few seconds." Valese nodded as he finished getting up and watched him as he made his way out of the cave, turning toward the car before finally disappearing from view. WC: 1,653 |
