Mount Frypan

Difficulty: Hard

Description:

You’ve been asked by a local of the valley near Mount Frypan to get rid of the fire that engulfs Mount Frypan. It’s been blazing for several years with no signs of going out any time soon. The only thing known to be strong enough to “fan the flames”, so to speak, is the Basho Fan; a mythical item that is said to produce gale force winds if waved. It is rumored that Master Roshi used to have it in his possession but has since thrown it out. Will you be able to recover the fan?

Reward: +800 zeni, +6 DP, +80 all stats, +6 Rp Credits

Bonus: Basho Fan - Despite being a fan, this weapon counts as a level 2 staff equipped as an accessory. It boosts your strength in battle by +150 and +2%. Attacks with this item deal +1% bonus damage. Once per battle, you may summon a gust of wind with the fan that your opponent can get stuck in, causing them to become stunned for 2 actions. May not be stolen.

“Mt Frypan is next We’ll get to play one last time.” She heard the man say as his head was cut off. It was cruel and inhuman to make the daughter watch her father’s own death. She had other intentions with her but forwent such after noticing she would not be enough to quench her thirst. Taking her pet rabbit as exchange for her own life, the murderer never showed those burning eyes to her again. Evil reeked from her veins; her soul was cloaked with darkness. Although she might be assuming such, what reason could there be to annihilate such a peaceful faction?

The mysterious Saiyan known as Gine, accompanied by her temporary companion Tigrawr, moved towards their next destination. As Mt Frypan the main target, their real motives remain unknown to all. Her fake smile is always put on; her real self was silent in the depths of her mystique. After destroying an entire faction, what would her stand be against the in the middle of the desert? Standing like a lone sentinel Gine looked out over the desert. She was hiding safely in the branches of one of the last trees, before the forest gave way to the desert.

Gine had been searching for information about the strange towns, and the only hint she could pick up was that there was one in the southern desert. Gine ran off with reckless abandon at first, but seeing the desert made her hesitate. It was like an entire realm dedicated to her nemesis, the sun, and she didn't like that. The desert was a land of scorching days, and freezing nights. Not to mention that the way she was dressed was not ready for the desert. The sun would burn her pale skin, and make its sensitive the searing sandy wind. The ground would burn and blister her bare feet, and most intimidating of all was the deserts size. From her tree Gine could see nothing but sand till the horizon claimed her view.

The desert could not be all bad though. No town could exist alone, which meant traders would have to cross the desert at one point. This meant that either the town was close to one edge of the desert, or there was a source of water on the trading path. Gine decided at first to find a caravan and tag along, once she found the road, and it seemed like a good plan. Until she had waited for over an hour on the road and saw no one. The sun was beginning to set and Gine decided that the freezing nights were better to travel in then the burning days, and took off into the sand. Across the hot desert sands, two warriors carrying the insignia of the oh so familiar Dawn that Gine had come across so many times in the past few months. The warriors would rush through the most of what their speed could take them. It was daytime, the desert was unforgiving as ever, the forsaken piece of land was not welcoming to visitors not used to its temper.

With masks to protect their faces, both Roshi disciples tried their hardest to find the one they seek in time. With a quest like as risky at this, time was not on their side. It was neutral. They needed to be calm when it came to their terms or force or it to abide by their rules. Whatever the cost, they needed to fulfill this quest. This place was strict and honor was very important. The warrior, almost wearing nothing but the color gray, was busy keeping her pace in check for the warrior that was her partner. Gine’s partner was all too familiar with the harsh deserts leading up to the infamous Mt Frypan. She was, after all, from a putrid place. Memories of her demise and exile brought her to hate the town even more. Her nose cringed uncontrollably. If only things had been different.

Gine’s partner’s skin looked creamy skin looked fairer under the desert heat. Her name was Kiko and Gine had accompanied her on at least one quest in the past. She served good company and had earned Gine’s trust. Her black hair flew all over her back as she pushed on; her eyes keen to make her mark on this newfound power she had. The Saiyan vest she wore over her hooded sweatshirt remained calm amidst the pressure the desert wind had put up against it. Her short sleeves danced meekly, limited by their tight attachment to the gray top.

Her pants, gray, were dusted with the sand as they continued to move, never taking to mind resting for a bit. The cylinder sheath on her left wrist and the metallic band of her helmet scouter glistened in the morning light. Her glasses had done their purpose well, to hide the look of her eyes whenever she aimed her ki attacks. Kiko did not faze at the sudden action of her master. With the use of the sound waves carried about by the different stimuli in the desert. If she did otherwise, they would get lost. Kiko was a much better tracker and navigator than Gine, at least in these kinds of terrains.

A smile formed on Gine’s face. To be serving her goody two shoes mentor was bad enough but, as she heard through the grapevine, it was even more defaming to know that muten Roshi was one of the only ones that had ever put the flames out without using the legendary fan. Her ponytail remained stationary, never letting the playful breeze toy with it. Her eyes, born black were dark enough to stare right into your soul. Gine was still pacing before Kiko but she noticed the change in the woman’s demeanor. She could taste her contempt for something that she felt was still coming to be, rather she felt it and liked the fact someone had other intentions than good.

"Are you alright?" Her words were not of concern, they were more of annoyance. Gine, not ceasing with speed nor even turning to face the warrior for a moment, reassured her through bit lips. "I am fine," her words were calm and dignified, Kiko had encountered her uncle in Mt Frypan once and felt the same aura. She knew they her uncle was probably the one who had set the mountain on fire in the first place. If it came down to it, they might have to fight the old geezer which would be no easy task since he was one of the strongest in the whole world.

The desert was a place of unforgiving conditions, by the perception of mere humans. Most people saw it this way, others saw it a place to retrieve one’s self. A figure in a black cloak stood on top of a sand dune, a pair of long sword strapped to his back. The only designation the blades were there, were from the hilts sticking above the actual cloak. The person had their hand raised to their helmet, looking at the surroundings. This opened the cloak to reveal a black shirt, and pants that the person was wearing. Once the person placed there hand back down. The cloak closed revealing a dark V shaped visor that hid the person’s eyes.

Such a nostalgic feeling these sands brought to Kiko. The person adjusted the helmet scouter she wore like a bandanna, the symbol of the crypt was on it. The person would slide down the sand dune, like they had experience in traveling this type of terrain. She had been away from the place where her ancestry had arisen from. This person was a different one, then what the sands would have probably raised. Eight long years had passed since that day, since she had fled Mt Frypan with her parents. She could remember that day somewhat in her memory. Standing still she would close her eyes. The sounds would begin to return to him, as she heard the screams, and crumbling of buildings.

The cries of people who were being slaughtered without mercy, as a girl and her parents stood on a sand dune. Watching as Ki user ruthlessly claimed her victims. She could remember clinging to her mother’s leg, for fear of that man. She would open her eyes seeing the barren landscape in front of her. The reason she had been sent to this place of her past, was for a bounty placed on some one’s head. Not someone in Mt Frypan, but some one thought to attack Mt Frypan. This was due to the high amount of advance ki abilities, which lived with in that town. That's why the Mayor had sent Kiko away, to be safe. It would only be a matter of time, before she would reach her former home. And now she had Gine, someone just as strong as she was. There was a chance they could put an end to this once and for all.

When the desert finally ended, they reached a forested region. However, they expected the forest to eventually give way to even more desert. Gine and Kiko walked through the forest at a comfortable pace as they knew that she would soon reach the light and have to cover their eyes. She hated that she had to cover her eyes in the light now and she blamed the intense light contrast because they had slightly damaged their eye control due to the bright lights. Gine had to suffer with being sensitive to light AND to have random spouts of blindness, or to see through the eyes of a psychopath, or other random things one has or sees threw their eyes.

As The Ki user walked along she happened to see the back of a female ahead of her, it looked OH too familiar and she couldn't help but smile at the site so she is heading to Mt Frypan from the looks of it, unless there’s suddenly something new in the desert I don't know about. Gine did not make an effort to catch up she just remained the same pace she was going till she reached the edge of the shade and suddenly felt a change in heat hit her legs "ok, its time.” The girl then reached up and pulled her cloth that spun around her head and place it over her eyes as she walked foreward. She knew she would not need her eyes because she knew it was over a three days walk to Mt Frypan from that location and she could just correct her path at night.

As Gine her the desert edge she called out to Kiko " are you lost or are you actually heading to Mt Frypan," The young woman grinned 'cause she knew the answer already "how about I help you get there and you shut up" At that Gine pulled out a Mt Frypan map and held it with the symbols facing up but only for roughly twenty seconds before putting it back into the folds of her clothing where it would rest till they reached the town "I was once a resident in Mt Frypan,” said Kiko, “I know where I’m going.”

And so they went to the even more intense area of the desert. This was where the desert's heat hits the fool like a wall. Unfortunately their armor did not help much with the heat, and the weapon on her back was not helping either. As the heat hits down upon her she starts to wonder what this quest exactly is for? Why are we helping Mt Frypan? After a short time though these thoughts went away and nothing could stop the fool on her travels through the desert, though she cannot wait until night fall when it was cool again. There she would travel as far as she could until she reached either her destination.

As the sun was slowly finding its way below the horizon, taking its own sweet time. Gine was once again, or maybe the better term would be still, attempting to figure out whether this was a good idea or not. The desert was huge, and she had no idea where the strange town was. Not to mention the fact that is was a strange town, for what she knew Gine was standing above it right now. The unbearable heat, was not the largest problem she had been having so far though, its was the sand. The sand that would be whipped up by a smallest wind, and turned into a torture device. It seamed that every sensitive spot on her body was now filled with the vile pebbles. Once a strong wind pulled so much sand in the air that she was forced to hold her breath for over a minute.

It was after this subsided that she reached into her bag. and removed a long bed sash. Gine wrapped her newfound mask around her head twice, covering her nose and mouth, before tying it behind her head. It wasn't much to look at, but the make shift mask certainly got the job done. The problem with her attire that most would think would bother her the most, her bare feet, was a mere annoyance compared to everything else. During some of the months a city's streets can give the desert sand a run for its money, and she never wore shoes for it why would she this. As she was lost in her own discomfort Gine didn't hear her old "friend" walk up behind her. She called out to her, and she took that as a chance to stop walking. She waited for her now much appreciated stalker to come close enough to speak with before she responded to anything she said, and the closer she got the more awkward she looked.

Kiko had done the same thing as her by wrapping a cloth around her head, however Gine took things a step further, instead of covering her nose and mouth, she just made a blindfold. She said that she knew the way to Mt Frypan, which Gine could only assume was a town of some kind. It didn't take much thought to determine whether she should follow her knight in shining armor, even if she did blindfold herself to travel. With a bow, that made every chafed joint on her body protest, she said, "It would be my honor.” and began following the girl. After walking for a few steps she asked, "So can we only find this place if we don't look at it?"

Gine grinned finally knowing a little bit more about this place than Kiko. Many things had changed since Kiko left her home and Roshi had given her some details about a few of the changes. "well before I answer that I need an answer, I am going to help you but what do I get out of the deal. '' the girl was still walking down the desert and into its very stomach as she made her way as if she knew exactly where she was going even when blind folded. She could feel the rapidly dropping temperature and knew that the night was coming soon and she could take off her blind fold soon but not yet. The young Ki user was enjoying the fact that she ran into her new recruit as soon as she was left quite shocked from last time and was quite hopeful for the next time. which was this time.

She was looking forward to what camp would bring and wondered if this female who had so much fun teasing her would continue to tease or if she would actually start to do more. As Gine felt the air around her she could tell even with her body slightly numbed from death still that it was very dry and very hot where she walked and that the grounds surface was now somewhat cool but just underneath it there was a fairly hot layer of sand that would burn blisters on most feet but it seemed it didn't to Gine while she still had decent feet, It was something Gine really didn't notice as she was still blind folded but if she sees it she would surely make a comment.

"So this is how hot a desert can get. I mean the heat is somewhat unbearable.” A thought lingered in the mind of the young warrior, as she wandered around the outskirts of some town she had never really known about. She gave out a soft sigh, the sand was starting to irritate her, epically since it was getting inside of her clothes, and we all know that feeling from going to the beach. Of course. Despise the feeling, or at least most of us. She placed her hand across her scouter, the heart imprinted on her palm coming into contact with the tainted-droplet of sweat that covered her body.

Her eyes gazed from the left to the right, there seemed to have been no other figure insight, of course the warrior wasn't looking for someone, but rather something. "I swear I could've felt something with a demonic presence" she stopped talking aloud, noticing two figures in the distance that seemed to have been walking in some direction. "Should I go talk to them or follow?" she asked herself, her collar covering just beneath her eyes as she took short steps towards them, she was willing to take a chance, whether or not they were bad they might be able to help.

A quest eh? More like a field trip the desert, by yourself, with absolutely no want or personal need to do so. Still that was what being a warrior was right, going out into the world and doing the quest you were assigned. It wasn't a glorious life being a warrior, most quests were just doing chores for people so your higher ups could get some change in their pocket. This quest was no different, or at least that was how Gine saw it. Being sent to search out some warrior and then take her out. There would be nothing to it, just a few smacks and she would be down in a second right? Well they would see sooner or later.

As of now Gine was just a little mad about being in this place. She enjoyed the cold more then the smoldering heat, it almost looked like you could see steam rise up from the ground as you walked on it. It really wasn't the most fun thing to do in the world. Still Gine knew she had her task, find this mount Frypan, diagnose the situation to see if they need the legendary fan, and finally find the machine if it’s necessary. This was something she would shrug off, she was serious about her quests when it came down to it, sometimes she just didn't enjoy the glorious transportation that was provide. The town near Mt Frypan was her destination and hopefully it wouldn't be a huge hassle to find it, Gine wanted to save her energy for her task at hand.

A hot burning disk was hanging high above her head, its heated rays warming her skin and making her perspire slightly. The sweat was light, nearly non-existent, as she was extremely used to the dry arid heat of the desolate wasteland that was the desert. Unlike someone who was not used to the terrible heat, she could handle it, and it hardly bothered her or knocked her off focus. This was good; the desert was a dangerous mistress who did not forgive one who made a foolish mistake. Woe to the one who did. They scarcely survived a day, let alone live here like those who inhabited the town beside Mt Frypan. As she thought this she wandered over the dunes of endless sand, feeling the particles shift beneath her feet lightly, listening carefully for signs of other inhabitants.

She heard nothing as of now. Good. She did not hope to meet anyone out here. It would only lead to complicating her life a little more. Not that it would make any difference. Most of her troubles had to do with the fact that she did not feel at all important in the grand scheme of things within the Mt Frypan. She had been working hard to garner the attention of those who lived in the town, especially the dangerous and deadly faction, the faction she had sworn to protect with her life. Despite what had happened in the past between the factions, she would not blame them for it. The only one to blame was the one who committed the deed. That person was Kiko’s uncle, or so she claimed. The only reason they hadn’t sought after the legendary fan was because they were confident that if they defeated the uncle in battle then he would simply put out the flames.

They had considered just taking out the uncle’s faction, but decided there was no reason to punish the whole faction for a crime that their leader committed by himself. They were not to blame and they would not destroy them. Face controlled and neutral, she stared around the barren and dry landscape all around her, looking for something that might appear out of place here in the desert. Kiko was not the guardian of the Mt Frypan Town, but it was her duty to protect it. Nothing was in sight as of yet, though she was getting a few strange vibes far off into the distance. It was possibly just her gut instinct trying to tell her something but she did sense that there some people out there, silent amongst the dunes.

It irritated her slightly; if the uncle realized that strangers from the outside had penetrated this far into the desert, well, needless to say, she would be royally pissed. He’d probably go charging out there to kill the unfortunate idiots. And Kiko did not want to see her do such a thing, her normally calm face contorted in the disgust of how wicked her uncle was. She didn’t even want to tell Gine the details. Kiko’s main fear was that Gine might back out of the mission if she thought it was too dangerous. She hated to admit it, but Gine had a deadly, frightening temperament that disconcerted her. It was hard for her to keep from literally turning metal and running when she looked at her with her bloodthirsty eyes as of late. This was a big change from when they first met. Gine had arrived on Earth with such peaceful intentions but now she was turning sour.

On top of Gine being pretty bloodthirsty nowadays, it was getting harder to scare her away from certain situations. Gine’s dark eyes were studying everything around her, sure to take in the dunes that sprawled before her and beneath her as she walked her steps quiet and measured. Moving quickly, she hunkered down behind the sands, remaining vigilant and undercover, her sharp eyes watchful, piercing, and harsh. Suddenly the wind began to pick up, lifting a little sand into the hair, though she did not blink despite it. She was getting used to the sand and the searing wind of the desert.

Kiko was likewise used to this by now. She had lived here for a long time. None of it affected her much. Her skin was tanned and her clothes were made to bear the weather that occurred all over the desert. It was not likely she would burn like many pale soft-skinned warrior, and she was a lot tougher than many of them as well. Those not used to these conditions could be overwhelmed by the harshness, the unforgiving nature that made this desert almost uninhabitable. Sweeping her hair out her eyes, she shifted her weight slightly, ignoring the way her cloak clung to shoulders. That was when she heard it, though it may have been nothing at all.

Walking along, Gine knew that she was a good distance from Mt Frypan, perhaps just a little too far. She wasn’t worried about getting lost, hell no; it was just that she was leaving the security zone. She heard the noise again, perhaps a voice being carried by the wind, though she could not discern any words. It was all a jumble because of the distance, though she could pick up some of the conversation. Her cold eyes sharpened, the pupils dilating dangerously, before she began to walk silently over the dune, peering carefully down at those at the base of it. One was a man, dressed plainly, with gray on gray. Yet his demeanor suggested something dangerous about him, though she could not pinpoint the source. He was definitely more of a threat than anything they had come across so far. From what Gine could tell with just her eyes, this was probably the guy they were looking for.

“Hey Kiko, is that your uncle?” she would ask with a turn of her head. Kiko was no longer following her. She was simply standing there shaking in her boots as she stared ahead at the man that was facing them. Well that was enough of a confirmation for Gine! She would continue to march towards the man as they approached the top of the sand dune. And that’s when she saw it. Mt Frypan in the distance was completely on fire, the rumors must have been true.
“Hey man,” she would say as she approached the infamously powerful man, “you mind putting those flames out?”
The man scoffed and said, “if I could I would. It was not I who set the mountain on fire. The only way to put it out is to use the Legendary fan. It can be located to the west. I would go myself, but I am busy with the relief efforts.” Well that was a good enough explanation to Gine. She didn’t really want to fight this guy anyways since it would have taken a lot of effort and she was already sweating like crazy in the desert heat.

Gine took one last look at the man’s platinum blonde hair, the sun’s bright sunlight reflecting off it and making Gine scowl in annoyance. She wondered why Kiko was so scared of this guy, he seemed nice enough. Perhaps times had changed. Of course, she would not allow her thoughts to rule her. They would stay in her head where they belonged. Mt Frypan had been around for a while and its residents had become quite powerful; it would only make sense that the flames would come. She had heard tales of the powerful bloodthirsty and deadly factions that patrolled its borders. Compared to the warrior here, the West City folk were water-soft babies.

Watching the pair walk on, the uncle decided to confront them once more and see if they needed anything. After all, they were allies. Making his way over the dune in a steady lope, the uncle approached them cautiously, keeping himself several feet away. They didn’t appear to be the type to mindless attack someone, but you never really could be sure. Keeping his voice cool, he spoke to them, keeping his voice measured and polite. He didn’t want to offend them; Kiko would get angry with him for it. And seeing her angry was not the cup of tea that people usually prferred. “Greetings,” said the uncle, “I bid you welcome to the desert,” he gestured just slightly at the sands around them before continuing, her voice remaining flat and courteous.

It made him want to hurl, but he knew he could do this little ‘polite’ act for a while. Nothing in his face gave it away, and he went on speaking, “And I see you are from some sort of Saiyan planet.” the man’s eyes found Gine’s metal swiftly enough before flicking back to their faces. They would be sure to know she would never have approached them had they not been from Dawn. “So what is it that you have come for aside from the flames on Mt Frypan?” the uncle was tired of the act. It was time to cut to chase and get down to business. Being polite and well-mannered was a royal pain in the ass. It was so much easier to be blunt and direct about things. It just tended to piss people off more. Keeping his face neutral, he waited for them to reply.

The desert breeze toying with her mask and face, Kiko was annoyed at it. Not only was it hotter than usual, it was also as dry as Gine’s stews. The young woman did not show any signs of regret, however, as she continued on to follow her buddy for this quest. Her iced blue eyes narrowed themselves unconsciously, searching for signs of advancement. She could not take any more of the desert. She yearned to stay in a town, to linger in its relaxing beds and chairs. The desert was not really a forgiving place, it was more of an underlying cause for death. She couldn't really believe how anyone could live under these conditions. To her, they would be crazy to stay in the desert.

Gine, on the other hand, was not bothered by any thoughts concerning the status of the Mt Frypan people. She had not lived here before and knew not of the serious repercussions of staying for too long, born somewhere else where climates were different. Her history was a tale of countless sorrows and mishaps. She was not a blessed woman, she was cursed to roam this future timeline. Remembering the instructions they had received regarding the flames on Mt Frypan Gine once again told the uncle that they were here to find the legendary fan to put out the flames. Their original plan was the beat up the uncle, but that didn’t seem to be a solution.

The uncle politely gave them more specific instructions to the town that carried the machine and Gine was on her way. She took off into the air once she found out that people were constantly dying from the extreme heat caused by the flames and put off her human act for the time being. It didn’t take long to reach the desert from there, especially by flight. In no time she had the machine in hand and landed next to the uncle who tried to take the machine away from her.
“No way dude,” she said, “this machine is mine now. I’ll put out the flames for you just this once since you showed me where it was. However, next time you’re going to need to pay a hefty fine. Pray I don’t start the fires back up in the near future. ”

Gine was starting to show her evil side, but she rarely cared anymore. Most humans were no match for her so she would have no qualms with obliterating them. She took off leaving Kiko in the dust as she approached the mountain top and started waving the machine back and forth. It only took a measly two swings to put out the entirety of the flames which made her wonder why this machine was so easy to find in the first place. Well, with her mission complete she landed next to Kiko and they would begin their journey elsewhere. They had plenty of quests to undertake and regardless they would have to cross through the desert.
