“When the time comes, we’ll meet again… Take the humans and leave… I’ll be in touch…”

Maragai sighed as she recalled the Vora’s ominous words. Just what was that creature? He had called himself ‘The Observer.’ Such a name hinted that he was psychic. But did he really differ from the other Voracious Eaters that plagued the universe? With pen in hand, the child idly drummed on the desk she sat at. One one side of the room that served as her office, a banner with the Saiyan emblem could be seen. On the other: Earth’s banner.

A knock sounded, and the door opened, revealing Omega, the Saiyan Fleet Master. To Maragai’s dismay, he had yet another massive stack of paper in his arms. “Yo!” he called out in a cheerful manner as he dropped the pile down in front of Maragai. “Got more forms for you to look over.”

Maragai groaned in response. “How many more of these do I have to go over?” she asked the powerful warrior, fixing the man with her brilliant amethyst gaze. “Don’t I get a secretary or something?”

“Sorry, kiddo. It’s gotta be your signature on these papers,” came the Saiyan’s response. “Besides, everything should settle down in a couple of weeks.” He crossed the room and sat down in one of the chairs nearby, bringing his gauntlet up so he could fiddle with it. “I hope,” he added as if he were doubting that the humans would settle down now that Saiyans had taken root in their world.

Maragai frowned. It had only been three days since Omega and she had been called into the jungle to investigate the disappearances of several Capsule Corp researchers and scientists who had gone into an ancient temple. Footage had been captured, showing a serpentine-like Voracious Eater who had attacked and presumably killed them before retreating back into the stone monument.

But when Omega and Maragai had entered the pyramid, they had found that the Vora only had a message - an ominous one at that.

“When do you think that Vora is going to come visit me?” Maragai asked, pushing the stack of papers aside so she could look directly at the Saiyan Fleet Master. As far as she was concerned, the paperwork that came along with her new title of Overlord could burn. She was starting to itch for something else to do.

Omega shrugged. “Who knows?” came the unsatisfactory result. “Hopefully never, if you ask me. That shit was too weird down there. I still can’t wrap my head around it.” A spark flew from his gauntlet and Omega let out a grunt, narrowing his eyes as he tried to isolate the electrical malfunction.

Maragai sank lower into her chair. Omega wasn’t lying by any means of the word. What happened wasn’t just odd… it was downright unexplainable.

Tick... Tock... Tick... Tock... Time seemed to slow down to a crawl as Maragai idly ruffled through the seemingly endless papers that she needed to both read and sign. Other than Je'sheln's soft snoring, the only other noise that filled the room was the occasional discharge of electricity that came from Omega's gauntlet and the resulting grumbled curse that came with it. How much time had passed? Minutes? Hours? The child soon found herself losing track of time as she went through her work. The air in the room became more and more stuffy, finally drawing the new Overlord's attention away. Was the air conditioner unit broken already? It certainly didn't help that it was in the middle of summertime on Earth!

"I've already got someone looking into it," Omega said as if he could read the child's mind. Maragai only grunted in response, pushing her chair back so she could stand up. Turning to the window behind her, the Vessel of Light opened it to let some freaks hair in. Below her office, the girl could see the training grounds where a throng of Saiyan's sparred against each other for practice.

"You know," Maragai commented, half to herself, "I thought this title would carry some actual action and not just paperwork."

"You'll see action soon enough," Omega pointed out sensibly. "Besides, isn't a good thing that it's peaceful for the time being?"

"Yeah," Maragai answered, sitting back into her chair and picking up her pen once more. "I guess you're right." No sooner than the words had left her mouth, a fierce tug of wind scattered the pile of papers before her and threw them to the ground. Maragai let out a yell of surprise as a dark shadow infiltrated the room before solidifying on the ceiling. The flash of emotionless green eyes seemed to stab at her soul.

"What the hell?" Omega's outraged cry mirrored what Maragai was unable to put words to. The shadow quickly condensed into the same Voracious Eater she had met in the ancient temple. The bony scythes it used to keep itself on the ceiling still brought a chill down Maragai's spine.

Crunch!

Just as Maragai had breathed out her first word: "You..." To the uninvited guest, the demon had released its grip and flipped over to land heavily on the floor before the child. Carefully, Maragai rose from her seat, still not trusting that this Voracious Eater wouldn't simply go on to attack her.

A single snarl filled the room as Je'sheln rose with her fur bristling. There was no doubt that the goddess of light had already deemed this invader as. A threat. Her amber eyes blazed. Her claws extended. Maragai could feel the wolf's energy climbing at an astonishing rate. Despite the threatening posture of the powerful goddess, the serpent like monstrosity never even flinched, instead, he kept his brilliant green gaze fixed on the child.

Maragai swiftly realized that she only had a split second to both make a decision and act upon it. Given even only one more second, Je'sheln would likely go on the attack. The goddess had not been present with Maragai during her trip to the temple where she had first met his demon. Hell, even though Omega had been there, the Saiyan Fleet Master seemed just as ready to attack as the agitated lupine was.

The new Saiyan Overlord threw her hand up before war could break out in her office. "Wait!" She cried out, causing Je'sheln to look up sharply at her host.

"Wait?" Je'sheln echoed, sounding both angry and confused. "Wait for what? That's a Vora! It-"

"What do you want?" Maragai turned her attention back to the serpent like voracious Eater. Though her voice wasn't hostile, it wasn't exactly welcoming, either. After all, the child had seen first hand what these monstrosities could do in her own time.

"I am glad you remember me, young one," the Vora grumbled in response.

"It's kind of hard not to," Maragai responded, narrowing her beautiful amethyst eyes. More sharply, she added: "And I have a name, you know."

The demon dipped his head. "Of course," he responded. "My apologies, Maragai." He turned his green gaze to Je'sheln, who continued to bristle at the edge of the room. "I am glad that you were separated from Ra'shaln," he told the goddess of light. "Perhaps the wrongs committed by my brothers and sisters can be corrected since the chosen one has begun to flourish."

"And why the hell would you care?" came Je'sheln's hostile response. Her golden eyes narrowed dangerously, glinting sharply with barely suppressed rage. "What the hell would something like you understand about what is at stake?"

The young Vessel of Light grimaced. She could feel tension in the air - thick enough that one could cut through it with a sharp enough knife. But the Vora only blinked at the lupine's obvious hostility.

"You can sense my power just as everyone in this room can, goddess," came his response. "Do you take me so much a fool that I would launch an attack when I am so outnumbered and overpowered? You look after your host as anyone in your position would. I only ask that you hear my warning. Do not be so quick to pass judgement upon me. Allow me to prove that I am not your enemy."

The goddess of light's fur seemed to lie flat. Maragai could see that Je'sheln saw some sense in his words.

"You said your name was The Observer, correct?" Omega crossed his arms, relaxing as he propped himself against the nearby wall.

The Vora turned to Maragai. "You asked for my name and I told you that I had none. Names are meaningless. Yet mortals have the need to cling onto such titles for reference. In my solitude, I do not need such ties. But if it makes you feel more comfortable, you can name me for what I do. I observe the things to come."

"So you can see the future," Maragai summarized, sitting back into her chair.

"I suppose you could say that," the Voracious Eater responded after a moment of thought. "But you of all people should know that the future is a fleeting thing. Can we say that there is such a thing as a future when it can change so drastically from the smallest ripple?"

"Then you can see alternate universes," Omega said, sounding a bit edgy. The Saiyan Fleet Master was growing tired of the riddles that the Vora spoke. Before the demon could respond, Maragai piped up.

"If it's all the same to you, can I just call you Oracle? 'The Observer is a bit of a mouthful."

The serpent like creature turned his gaze back to the young Saiyan Overlord and blinked slowly. "You can call me whatever you like. Now will you listen to my warning?"

Maragai opened her mouth to respond, but a pounding sounded on her door. The shout of one of her Saiyan guards sounded out loudly. "Overlord! Our sensors picked up a foreign power level coming from your office! Is everything alright?"

Once more, the child paused. Just how much could she trust this Voracious Eater? With only one word, the new Saiyan Overlord could have her entire guard in her office, eliminating this monstrosity. But through that, the demon held the child with a burning green gaze. In it, held a single searching question.

What will you do, young one?

“Overlord Maragai!” The voice rang out again, louder this time. If the child hesitated any longer, her guards would likely break down the door to make sure that the Vessel of Light was safe. Still, Oracle held the girl’s gaze evenly. There was a fierce look of intelligence in those deep emerald pools. This Voracious Eater…

He wasn’t like the rest. Maragai closed her eyes. “I’m fine, Commander,” she replied.

“Are you sure?”

“I’m sure,” Maragai answered, opening her amethyst eyes so she could actually look at the closed door. No doubt the poor Elite guard would flip if he were to see the monstrosity that was in here with the child. “Thanks for checking. You can resume your patrol, though.”

“Right away!” There was the sound of retreating footsteps as the soldier left. Maragai let out a slow breath.

“Now will you listen to me?” Oracle asked, his voice damn near vibrating from the deepness. “I am only here to help you.” Maragai could see Je’sheln and Omega shoot a disbelieving look at each other. If they were to have their way, this demon spawn would likely be dead already.

“I’ll listen,” Maragai answered. “What do you want to tell me?” There was a soft whir of noise as the air conditioner unit finally kicked in. Finally, it had been repaired. The child rose from her seat once more and moved to close the window behind her. Then, a second thought crossed her. No, better to leave it open. Oracle needed a way to leave, after all. Somehow, the child doubted that the serpent like creature could just slither on out the front door.

“This world is going to burn.” Maragai started, looking over her shoulder at Oracle. With such a simple statement, the Voracious eater had brought a chill down Maragai’s spine. A cold energy seemed to come from the demon as he talked about what he could see. “And only you can prevent it. You are in command of the Saiyans here, after all.”

“I’m supposed to be working with the humans here,” Maragai pointed out. “I can’t just go gallivanting off and doing my own thing without the proper approval. I need to go through different channels. Paperwork needs to be-”

“But how many humans would die in the time that it took you to do that?” Oracle cut her off.

“You haven’t even told me what’s going to happen,” Maragai pointed out. “So what am I supposed to do? What’s going on?”

“A demon that was sealed away long ago has escaped its prison,” Oracle began. “In the time of ancient man, this demon was summoned to destroy the planet and rid it of humans. Only by the actions of one hero who stood above the rest, was the demon sealed.” The Vora’s green eyes darkened. “But that was not sufficient. To root out evil, one must take it out completely. This monster has been released from its resting place. It will not take long for it to find the surface of the planet once more and continue on its path of destruction - the one it started over three thousand years ago.”

Silence met Oracle’s words. Je’sheln had settled down into a sitting position with her golden eyes narrowed carefully as she watched the Voracious Eater. Her fluffy white tail twitched slowly. Omega had a frown on his face, but his overall expression was unreadable. Maragai realized that the Saiyan Fleet Master was waiting to see how the new Overlord of Earth would react to this knowledge.

“Do you know where I can find this so-called demon?” the child asked slowly, musing over Oracle’s words. “You aren’t giving me much to work on, you know. I can’t just go out on a wild chase and hope to run into it.”

“Your first actions as Overlord will determine the fate of this world,” Oracle responded, raising up taller and casting a look over at the open window. “If you can find the answer yourself, you will flourish.” The Voracious Eater looked back down at Maragai. “But if you lose this small battle, you lose everything. However there is a way you can go about this predicament so that nobody dies. Remember that much.”

“H-hey!” There was a blur of movement as Oracle dispersed into shadows once more. But before the new Overlord could figure out where the creature was going, it was gone. Only the small flecks of darkness fell from the windowsill before vanishing completely.

Maragai frowned as she stared out of the open window. Only a few seconds had passed, and there wasn’t even a trace of where Oracle had vanished to. With a sigh, the Vessel of Light closed the window once more and turned towards Omega.

The Fleet Master let out a cough. “Well, I’m just about done,” he said with a chuckle. “Just when I thought my weird meter was all topped out, some other random shit happens.” Je’sheln glared at the Fleet Master sharply. Maragai knew that the lupine of light was not fond of foul language. “So the question remains,” Omega continued, showing no signs that he had even seen the goddess of light’s glare as he scratched his chin thoughtfully. “What now?”

“According to that Vora, I don’t have time to go through the proper channels…” Maragai muttered, narrowing her amethyst eyes in concentration. “And if I wait too long, that demon will reach the surface…” Maragai trailed off, her eyes widening slightly.

Je’sheln twitched her ear as she looked at her young host. “What’s up?”

“Oracle made it sound like that thing was underground,” Maragai told Je’sheln. “He said that the demon would not take long to find the surface of the planet…” Once more, the preteen trailed off before looking sharply at Omega. “Omega, can we-?”

But the Fleet Master was already clicking several buttons on his gauntlet. Thankfully, he seemed to have it working. Or at least, the part he needed. “Command center Alpha,” he spoke into the microphone once he had connection. “I want a subterranean sweep of Earth’s crust. I want every tremor recorded from five hours until present time. Narrow it down to large tremors that are isolated. Anything that is not within the divergent boundary of this planet’s tectonic plates.” He paused for an instant. “No, I need it as soon as you can. Get everyone you can looking for it. Compile me a list and send it back to me as soon as you’re finished.” Another pause. “Omega out.”

Tock... Tock... Tock... Tock... Though only a few minutes had passed, it seemed closer to an eternity for the new Saiyan Overlord. With everything that had happened so far, the child hardly felt like signing any papers. Omega was sitting once more with his arms crossed and his eyes shut in deep thought. Maragai knew that the powerful Fleet Master did not agree with the Vessel's choice to listen to Oracle. Nearby, Je'sheln paced restlessly. Her white fur was ever so slightly ruffled - a sign that she was more upset about the situation at hand than she was letting on.

Both of them were upset. But this wasn't about trusting the Voracious Eater. This was about the child's gut feeling. The way her skin crawled. That sinister chill that traveled down her spine. Something dark was afoot. Finally, Omega's scouter beeped loudly, causing the Saiyan's eyes to snap open. Immediately, the warrior hit a button on his gauntlet, bringing up a screen with a female Saiyan's face on it.

"What do you have?" The Fleet Master asked, his face looking as if it were etched from stone.

“There’s been a major disturbance beneath the eastern desert about twelve miles off of East City. Tremors have been registering in at five point zero and stronger. But the source is too small to be a plate shifting! What’s going on, Fleet Master?”

“We have a demon to take care of,” Omega told the woman before clicking the same button on his gauntlet as before. The woman’s face vanished and Omega stood up. “Well,” he told Maragai. “We know where we’re going, at least. Are we leaving now or later?”

“Now,” Maragai decided with no hesitation. “If that thing gets above ground, there’s no telling what will happen if it’s left to its own devices. I’d rather be there to greet it as soon as it gets loose.”

It was quite the flight to get to the coordinates Omega had received. The desert seemed to stretch for miles upon miles in all directions. The golden sun above blazed without mercy. Heat struck Maragai from both above and below, causing the child to sweat. She had decided to let Omega lead the way; he was the one with the directions, after all. Je'sheln had retreated to Eden's Realm to wait. Every now and then, the woman would chime in with new coordinates as the burrowing demon shifted directions in its journey to the surface. In turn, Omega would turn this way and that so he could intercept the unwanted monster once it revealed itself.

Other than that, there was complete silence. Maragai was fine with that, though. It gave her some time to think. Why was there a demon underground? Was it a Voracious Eater, or something else entirely? How strong would it be?

These questions would be left unanswered for now. But the child couldn't help but feel as if she was missing something important.

"Here it comes!" Omega's voice sounded sharply, causing the child to snap her attention to him. Unbeknownst to Maragai, the Fleet Master had suddenly stopped, forcing the Vessel of Light to do the same so she could avoid running into him. Her amethyst aura faded as she looked down at the shifting and cracking sands below her. When Maragai reached out with her senses, she was blasted with an overwhelmingly thick Ki source. The child's eyes widened. This demon wasn't just strong - it was ridiculously strong!

An explosion of golden power flared from the powerful male Saiyan, igniting into a beautiful golden aura. His hair spiked, sharing the same color as his Ki and his pupils faded from ebony to emerald. Omega had sensed the demon's thick strength and had responded appropriately by ascending into the legendary Super Saiyan state. Maragai was quick to respond in kind, clenching her fists and allowing her vast energy to manifest and magnify to even larger levels than her base form could handle.

Though this demon was strong, the two powered up Saiyans in the sky were even stronger individually. Fighting together? So long as the monster below them wasn't hiding its power, there would be no contest.

Then, the beast emerged. Omega and Maragai both narrowed their eyes as the creature revealed itself. The monster was something that the child had never seen before. Lion like? Fox like? Whatever it was, it was quadrupedal. Its skin was as black as coal; the sunlight glinted off of thick scales, giving it an onyx like sheen. Crooked fangs protruded out of its pointed face. Did this creature not have enough mouth to hold those wicked needles? Crimson eyes smoldered as finished tearing itself from the ground. Slowly, the demon lifted its gaze to look at the two Super Saiyans.

It roared. What a bellow! What a threat! Maragai was tempted to cover her ears at the terrible rock shattering sound. But the sharp cry from Omega snapped her attention to the task at hand.

"Now!" The Fleet Master's voice was charged with power. He rose higher into the sky, bringing his arms above his head. Golden Ki blazed within his grasp. Maragai realized that she had taken this man for granted. His kindness and gentleness towards the child was a far, far cry from his display now.

Omega was a powerful warrior - a credit to the Saiyan Empire.

Maragai rose to his height, bringing her own amethyst energy to arms. And as one, the two warriors brought down the thunder. Amethyst and golden bolts of energy were dropped like bombs. Instantly, the demon below them was engulfed in flame, dust, and debris as explosions turned Earth's crust inside out. The ground screamed in protest as it was ripped to shreds. No doubt, the upstanding citizens in East City could feel the resulting tremors. The new Saiyan Overlord made a mental note to ask Tork'thal to repair the damage done here.

Though no words or signals were shared between Omega and Maragai, the two Super Saiyans halted in their bombardment as one. Dust rose from the ruined ground below them. One minute passed. Then two. Nothing stirred. When Maragai checked with her senses, she could only detect her own energy as well as Omega's. The dust settled and the bombed ground was empty.

"It's done," Omega said simply, reverting to his base form. A slow breath escaped his lips. Maragai reverted as well, enjoying the feeling of her powered down form. The crisis was over. The threat had been destroyed.

Earth was safe once more.

It was late into the evening once Maragai finally retreated back into her office. The stack of papers she had left behind was still there, waiting for her return. The child looked at the pile for a moment, then for a moment longer. She really, really didn't want to delve right back into that. Besides, she was way too wound up to concentrate at this point. Perhaps she would make some rounds through the Saiyan base...

The beautiful red, orange, and yellow glow from the setting sun filtered through the child's window, distracting the young preteen from her duties. She walked to it and leaned against the marble sill so she could watch the sinking ball of flame as it was swallowed by the seemingly endless blue ocean.

Just as Maragai settled into a comfortable position, the dark face of a monster flashed in her window, blocking the Vessel's view and making her swallow her heart. Stepping back sharply and letting out a muffled squeak, the Saiyan Overlord collided with the tall chair behind her, causing it to clatter loudly as it toppled over to the floor. Emerald eyes seemed to pier e her soul. The child felt her heart slow down. This monster was Oracle.

With a heavy sigh to finish calming herself down, Maragai stepped forward once more as the Vora reached up with the point of his bladed arm to tap impatiently on the glass blocking him from coming inside. The Saiyan Overlord opened it to give the creature access. With a nuetral amethyst gaze, Maragai watched as the serpent like demon brushed past her before settling in a relaxed position on the floor in front of her desk.

"You need to find a better way of getting in here," Maragai told Oracle. "I don't live here, you know."

"When I need to find you, I will find you, young Maragai," Oracle told the child. Maragai frowned. Did this Vora know where she was at all times? That idea spooked her somewhat. Before she could delve into that thought, the Voracious Eater swept on. "You did well to destroy that demon. Do you believe that I am here to help you now?"

Maragai didn't respond at first. Though she appreciated the seemingly good intentions of this star gazing and future seeing Vora, there was a fear inside of her that was too rooted to let go so simply. She wanted to believe that this demon was different from the rest, but...

Oracle read the child's pause and answered for her. "You do not trust me yet," it said simply, blinking once or twice. "Perhaps you have your reasons."

"I-"

Oracle continued, not letting the new Saiyan Overlord defend herself. "But believe me when I tell you this..." The Voracious Eater leaned over and his voice became softer and deeper. "That demon was the first of many. A full scale invasion will follow shortly."

"What?" Maragai tried to get a word in, but Oracle continued on.

"Ocean. Sky. Forest. Mountain. Desert. Space. There are six gates and one master. This is a task too big for you alone, though." With those cryptic words, the Voracious Eater began to slither back towards the open window as if it were finished with its warning. Maragai watched Oracle's movements for a moment in stunned silence as she frantically tried to wrap her mind around the words she had just heard. Then, she snapped around as the serpent like creature brushed past her.

"Wait!" She called out. "I can't-"

Oracle turned around. "Call upon your allies," the Voracious Eater told her. "You fear for them, so you try to protect them by putting the burden on yourself. Do not underestimate them. You may be stronger physically, but they are stronger than you in other ways. I will not fully guide you lest you forget what it means to work with these Saiyans and humans. Only by casting yourself aside and becoming one with your allies will you succeed." Oracle turned a around once more and leaped out of the window with a whisper of a movement. Only his final parting words met the child's ears.

"We will meet again once the time is right."

The creature had vanished into the sky, leaving the child to watch the very last bit of the bleeding sun to sink to its watery grave. A frown crossed her lips. Why was everything so damn complicated? What did the Voracious eater mean? Ocean? Sky? Forest? Mountain? Desert? Space? These were all places, sure. But at best, it was vague. If there was something there, it would be an impossibility to find. Especially since she had no idea what she was looking for anyway! She sank into her chair and let out a groan.

Perhaps Oracle was right. She couldn’t figure this out on her own! Pushing a button on her table, the child leaned over to speak into it. “Omega? This is Maragai. Can we talk real quick?” With those words, Maragai released the button and swiveled around in her chair so she could look out the open window and enjoy the cool breeze that swept in from the ocean.

“He said what?” Omega had only taken a few minutes to meet up with the new Saiyan Overlord. But he was no longer in his armor. Instead, he sported jeans and a black shirt. His hair was slightly ruffled. Maragai could detect the distinct whiff of beer on the Fleet Master’s breath.

“Sorry if I interrupted something,” Maragai apologized.

Omega waved his hand casually. “No, no,” he told the child. “Nothing like that. I was only in my third beer, actually. I needed to stop while I was ahead anyway. I don’t need to be hungover tomorrow.” His arm fell back to his side. “But you said Oracle came to you again? What did he want?”

Quickly, the Saiyan Overlord filled the Fleet Master in. Oracle’s words had been cryptic - that much was for sure. But perhaps Omega would be able to make some sense of it? Maragai certainly hoped so. After she finished talking, the girl leaned back in her seat, watching as Omega brewed over the information. For several moments, the powerful warrior did not speak.

“Well, those locations aren’t specific at all…” Omega muttered, half to himself. He stroked his chin thoughtfully. “And if that demon is the first of many, we need to figure out where they’re coming from.” His ebony eyes narrowed. “Gates…”

“Wait!” Maragai flashed. Her fingers flew up to brush the gemstone around her neck. “I have a gateway,” she told the Fleet Master. “And it acts like a portal between here and Eden’s Realm. So-”

“Yeah, Oracle was definitely referring to a portal of some sort, then,” Omega cut the girl off, nodding. “After all, if they were coming from the same physical existence that we occupy, our sensors would easily pick up a movement of that level. That Vora was making it sound like a full blown invasion, after all.”

“Then what about the master?” Maragai asked, remembering Oracle’s other words.

“I don’t know,” Omega replied, sounding thoughtful. “Not yet, at least. But it sounds like whatever it is, it’s the one behind this mess. We need to find these ‘gates’ first. Lock them down. I think if we make a showing, eventually, our answers will come. But…” He trailed off for a moment, looking at Maragai with an untold thought brewing in his ebony eyes.

“But?” Maragai prompted him as the pause continued longer than she would have liked.

“We can’t do this alone,” Omega said simply, mirroring what Oracle had told her only moments ago. “You’ll need to prioritize this as a Saiyan mission. We’ll need several teams.” The Fleet Master turned away and began to walk away. “I’ll look into these gates and see if I can find anything we can use to track their locations. Look into the Saiyans you have stationed here and get some teams ready.”

Maragai nodded. “Right. Thanks, Omega.”
