South City.

The weekend.

It was more than a beautiful day with crystal clear skies, a gentle breeze and a carefree attitude. Everyone seemed so calm and content with the midafternoon atmosphere. The beach was full of happy-go-lucky adults and innocent children playing in the sand and waters’ edge. The waves could not be any more playful as it was just right for the day’s enjoyment.

However, not everything is always like that throughout a given region, or maybe no one pays close enough attention. Either way this bright and extravagant day would prove to be the complete opposite for a certain someone.

Across town at the South City police department; it was a day of days for the newly appointed Chief of Security, Helios Ryuad Rune Sirat.

-----

“Alright lady, stick ‘em up!!” a masked criminal exclaimed.

“Oh my, please don’t hurt me!” a thick middle aged woman replied. Her red framed glasses, pearled necklace and hot air balloon styled blonde air shook.

“Put the money in the bag, lady. I’m not playing any games,” the man pressured with a black duffle bag in one hand and a sub-machine gun in the other.

“Please don’t hurt me. Please don’t hurt me,” the lady quietly chanted as her hands framed her face.

The scene was chaotic. Two other men waltzed around with sub-machine guns drawn as they threatened the innocent people nearby.

“Max let’s go! The cops will be here any minute!” a man in denim pants and brown jacket shouted.

“Are you kidding me?! Don’t say my real name, idiot!!” the main gunman yelled as he turned to face his partner. “Agh! This is not going as planned,” he murmured to himself as he turned back to the woman. “Look lady, I won’t say this again, give ME THE MONEY!!”

The woman was panicked and trembled with fear as she removed the cash drawer and filled the duffle back with money. It seemed like an endless flow of cash as it tumbled about on the inside of the duffle back. Once she ran out of money she tossed her arms up in the air.

“Is that all?!”

“Y-y-yes! Yes, it’s all of it!”

“Heh, well good then, it was nice doing business with you. Next time I’ll open up an account,” the man ended with a conniving laugh. “We’re done here, fellas.”

The man spun around after he managed to catch one of the three sides of the duffle bag. The money spilled out a bit as the bag caught part of the countertop and hit the floor. He quickly swept the money back into the bag and zipped the top shut. The three assailants hit the front doors of the bank with bravado. The awaiting car out front was an old model sedan. The getaway vehicle was yellow with silver trim with a few rust spots here and there. The driver was hopping up and down in excitement and anxiety as he heard police sirens before they even began to leave the building.

“Hurry up and get in! The cops are on their way!!!”

The three men rushed the vehicle and piled in.

“Punch it!” the lead gunman bellowed.

The driver floored the accelerator pedal and squealed the wheels on the pavement. Just as they took off a pair of cop cars whipped around the corner to the rear of their car. The sirens whistled between the busy streets as pedestrians were unaware of what had transpired in the bank. The crooks sped off as the cops gave chase. The lead vehicle was a young man driving with a humanoid dog passenger. The trail cop car had a pair of veteran female officers.

Intersection after intersection became more and more dangerous as cross-traffic and pedestrian traffic went on the move. The green lights sharply hit yellow then red in many areas. Left and right turns from the bank robbers’ driver slung the men all over the cab. The police officers could barely keep up safely. They would have to resort to more dangerous risks to take down the bank robbers.

“H-H-Hey!! Make the left down the alley!!” the leader told the driver.

With a right followed by a hard left turn the yellow getaway vehicle shot down the alleyway and into the shadows. The pursuing police buzzed by the alleyway. The crooks were home free.

Or so they thought.

They continued their drive down the alleyway and celebrated with each other. As they took their eyes off of the road for a brief moment a person came into their path. The brakes engaged and the car halted hard.

“Hey old man, get out of the road!!!” the driver laid on the horn.

“I am Chief of Security Helios Ryuad Rune Sirat. Please exit your vehicles with your hands raised. You are under arrest.”

Helios’ facial expression was cold as ice. The men thought of their options when suddenly the driver slammed the shift lever into the reverse position. The tires seemed to move faster than time as they spun in place before the ground caught up to speed. The yellow metal tuna can powered backwards as the rubber burned off smoke.

The right corner of his mouth crept up just enough to break the seal of his lips. As the criminals made it down the alley in high speed, two of the four men looked to for clearance behind the vehicle. They would be free sailing once they reached their initial entrance. Helios leaned forward and bent ever so slightly at the knees. His right foot pushed off of the ground as it propelled him towards the retreating car. His speed was a blur to the bad guys as his slammed his right fist through the grill of the car. The radiator and frame of the car were held tightly.

“What the?!?” the driver exclaimed. He continued to drive the accelerator to the floor board as the tires began to grind away. After a power struggle the driver realized the reverse power of the car was no match for this extraordinary ‘human’.

“I said you all are under arrest. Exit the vehicle. Please.”

“T-T-This guy is a freak. I-I-I’m out of here, guys,” the most quiet of the gunman panicked. His door flew open as his foot caught the lip of the trim. He slammed to his shoulder than got up and ran off.

The Security Chief let this one go as he ran unarmed and scared.

“That coward! Let’s show this old man-freak who he’s dealing with,” the leader spoke up.

The driver ceased vehicle operation and they all stepped out of the car with their sub-machine guns ready. Helios released the grip of the car and straightened up.

“Waste him!”

The men pulled their triggers. A stream of bullets trekked the short distance towards Helios’ position. The time was slowed for the more than average powered chief. He could see every bullet flow his direction as he whipped his arms left and right in wide circular motions. His opened sleeves snapped the air. The tiny pieces of metal were individually grabbed and dropped to the floor before his feet. After the roughly counted ninety bullets sprinkled the ground the men stood frozen.

“W-W-We give up!” the leader represented the group as his hands shot up to the sky.

Helios smiled his usual large smile as a trio of police cruisers flanked the alley, sirens blazing.

South City Police Station.

Cheers and kudos were given as Helios entered the building with his three apprehended criminals. They were all excited to see that not only did the older looking man capture the bank robbers, but the rumors spread like wildfire on the execution of the arrest.

“Did you hear the new Security Chief Sirat chased the robbers down ten blocks on foot while they drove away?”

“I heard Chief Sirat got into a fist fight and killed the fourth robber, or hospitalized him, hm, I’m sure it was one of them.”

“I think the new Chief is single. I don’t mind an older man.”

“I hear he’s an underground cage fighter and part alien.”

“He can arrest me any day.”

The chatter continued as the excitement began to die down some. The women blushed and giggled and the men admired him except one individual. The man who was left in the dust for promotion to Security Chief of the South City Police Department was all frown and bent eyebrows. He sported a pencil thin mustache, and a square head that only carried hair on the sides.

“Hm! I heard he let the fourth man get away scott-free. What a chump!” the disgruntled man mumbled. “We will just see how good he is,” the man grinned.

Five hours later.

“Chief Sirat there’s a call for you on line one,” a young female officer spoke after poking her head through his door way. “The person sounded weird but distressed. They asked for you by name.”

“Thank you, madam,”
Helios gave a nod and picked up the telephone. “Good evening, Chief Sirat here, how may I help you?”

“Oh! Is this the Security Chief, wait the Chief of Security?!” the raspy, high pitched voice shouted.

“Yes, yes miss it is, how may I help?”

“Oh heavens, I just witnessed a bank robbery. I was able to follow them and they are in an abandoned warehouse off of Pecan Drive and Marble Street. Hurry! There’s no time to waste,” the male-female voice continued on. Helios’ gullibility could not grasp the horrific attempt of a male imitating the female voice.

“Okay, okay, please calm down. Who am I speaking to?”

“Oh, I’m sorry it’s uhh, off-duty officer Sakura --“

Just before ‘she’ could finish the phone hung up. She must have been in trouble. Signal cut out. Something abnormal Helios thought. Either way he was up and out of the office in a split. His naïve nature kept him on the move and alone. Meanwhile the imposter caller chuckled to himself on the other line after the termination of the telephone call. The trap was set and it was time for the prey.

Helios made quick work of finding the location of the warehouse. His familiarity of the town was flawless with his memory banks. The sun faded the major of its way down for the day. The street lights sparsely illuminated the edges of the building. The man called for the emergency tapped down on the ground just in front of the warehouse front doors.

His heels clicked and clacked the ground as he got closer to the door. He leaned in and did not hear a thing. His next course of action was not the smartest but the most efficient. He grabbed the knob of the door and pulled it off the hinges. With a flick of the wrist the door was tossed behind him into the deserted space that used to be a parking lot.

“This is Chief of Security Helios Ryuad Rune Sirat, come out with your hands up!” he bellowed as he entered the gapped threshold. “I repeat, this is Chief of S--“

Before he could finish he was clubbed in the head from his right hand side. The club echoed and shook the attacker’s arms as it tremored its way down his body. With a confused look upon his face, Helios simply looked to his right.

“You, Sir are under arrest for assaulting an officer of the law,” he spoke very candidly.

As the man’s body calmed down from the epileptic shake he wound up and swung again. This time Helios leaned his upper body back and intercepted the strike with his right hand. He grasped the club tightly as the man struggled to pull it away from him. A simply tug then forceful reverse motion sent his back fist straight into the assaulter’s nose. He released the club as he grabbed at his nose that was now a broken mess.

“ICE THIS GUY!!” a random voice shouted in the distance.

Just then a hailstorm of bullets propelled out of sub-machine gun barrels from all over the room. Quick thinking he swiftly dodged to his right and shielded the man with the damaged face. The jacket of his uniform took the brunt of the damage. It shredded over the time period of full clips having been shelled out into his back. The injured man was still safe, as Helios stood up and metal pellets bounced around his coattails.

“Wha?! This guy is unreal!”

Helios turned around and spotted twelve men and one more kind. This individual was sort of hiding off to the side behind a few crates. His hiding skills were not good enough as he leaned forward too much to catch the action.

“You are all under arrest.”

The man who tried to hide turned ever so quietly and darted out of there.

“Take care of him!!” the man squealed as he burst through the rear door.

The men looked at each other puzzled. How could they possibly take down a man who stood tall after a barrage of bullets? They were not that bright as they slowly progressed in his direction. With their hands raised in preparation for striking they circled around Helios. The distanced closed more and more as they shuffled in hesitantly. The closer they got the foolishly their courage rose. The men all spring forward and with a flash all men were knocked out with single punches or kicks.

It was worth a try.

Now Helios refocused and hit the exit door with ferocity. The building lights were far and few between that actually worked; however, the last light on the corner was in working order. He peered left; he peered right and managed to just catch the glimpse of a speedy foot hit the corner. Chief Sirat bolted down the backside of the warehouse and edged the corner with a slide. This mysterious and assumed leader was going to be caught today.

Helios dug a fist into the ground and shot himself after the man. The criminal mastermind made it one, two the three strides as he was lifted up and off of the ground by the scruff of his neck. Fortunate or unfortunately for him the grip was not one hundred percent secure as the man fell nine feet back to the ground. The man howled as he landed on his tailbone.

Sirat sharply retraced his steps to retrieve the sore man. Sirens rang in the near distance as he landed softly and walked towards the bruised man.

“I am Chief of Security Helios Ryuad Rune Sirat and you are under arrest.”

“I am Chief of Security, blah blah blah,” the man mocked.

Helios’ right eyebrow perked up as he was confused with the man’s whining tone. The sirens continued to blare as they closed in.

“I should be Chief of Security. You stole it from me. Now look at me,” the man said as he rubbed his hindquarters and sulked. “I have been reduced to nothing. I have to make false claims of bank robberies just to trap you. Now I see why you have been selected but you’re a freak! No man can grab bullets out of mid-air, dodge or even survive more than a few shots. You have to be some type of monster. Not only that you’re Mister Perfect around the office and all the ladies love you. I mean what about me?”

The man continued his rant as the sirens closed in and drowned him out. His bald head glistened with the help of a street light and the alternating red and blue patrol car lights. A female officer ran over to Sirat as the man sobbed his story to a close.

“Chief Sirat, we got word you came here alone. Back up has arrived to subdue the suspects,” she alarmed.

“That is quite all right. I have handled the situation here, the rest of the men are inside,”
Helios replied with his usual large smile.

“Right away, Sir,” the female delivered a strong nod and glanced at the man on the ground before she turned. She paused. Turned back around and gave a clarifying glare at the tear soaked man on the floor. “Sergeant Takeda? What are you doing here?”

His reply was nothing more than a low hung head and more weeping.

“Officer Mai, I can take it from here. Please assist the others with the twelve men inside of the warehouse. Beware they were armed at one point,” Helios squared himself on her.

“Yes, Chief,” she straightened her frame in a slight attempt to go to attention and left the area.

As she made her way towards the building, Helios turned towards Sergeant Takeda and bent at the hip towards him. He gave a slight pause as his facial expression morphed from the large smile to a more straight-laced expression.

“Now, Sergeant Takeda, if I catch you or hear of you doing something so heinous like this again I will kill you. Understand?”

The mood completely changed for Takeda as he saw his own fear in Helios’ eyes. The night crawled over the atmosphere but his vision was as clear as day. He knew that the man that stood in front of him was no joke. He not only showed abnormal human strength, speed and toughness, but he showed a more serious and chilling side.

“Y-Yes, I understand Chief Sirat, anything you say,” the man pleaded as he changed his position and groveled.

“Now, now, do not grovel. I know you are a good man and this is not your true self. I will give you another chance, but just keep what I said in mind, hm?”

Helios’ facial expression changed yet again into a large smile as he leaned up. He dusted off his uniform and extended his right hand down to the man. Sergeant Takeda was hesitant as he finally reached out a handful of seconds later. Helios assisted with the patting of his clothes and walked off towards the pile of police cars. Medical support was also on the scene and rightfully so as only one person was hurt from his broken nose.

He smoothly walked towards Officer Mai and whispered to her, “I think I will call it a day today. Too much action for my old bones, I’ll walk.”
