“So, I came across an interesting rumor going around.” Maragai broke away from Omega as the Fleet Master suddenly spoke. The weight that pressed down on her lithe body was impressive. This was what eighty times Earth’s gravity felt like. The child had never cared for training under a false pull like this. She was partial to the sun, after all. This machine was anything but. It was cut off from the sunlight and cut off from the wind. Only the dull red light inside of the machine made it possible to see. “Oh?” Maragai backed up another pace and took the nearby towel off of the rack. The rack was reinforced with a heavy metal and bolted to the wall so it could stay propped even under the effects of heavier gravity. Omega straightened up out of his stance. “Yeah,” he said, cracking his neck on one side, and then the other. “It’s rumors about you, actually.” He took up a bottle of water and sipped on it slowly. Maragai felt a bolt of alarm go through her. Rumors were usually bad. “About me?” she asked. “What about me?” Omega must have seen the alarm written on the child’s face because he laughed. “No, no, no,” he said, waving his hand to calm the Saiyan Overlord down. “It’s nothing bad, actually.” A hefty chuckle left his lips. "The humans believe that a hero rises to serve and protect them every hundred years. They even celebrate the date every year; they call it Spirit Day." Maragai frowned slightly. "Spirit Day?" She echoed, sounding mystified. "Why call it that?" "They don't believe that the same hero rises every hundred years," Omega explained, the grin on his face never wavering. "Rather, the legend says that the hero's spirit chooses a host to imbue with strength and wisdom. Once the host serves for a hundred years, the spirit departs them and finds a new host. The new host is the hero for a hundred years. And the cycle continues on." "Hmm..." Maragai mused over it for a moment. Truth be told, she had already seen enough crazy things. Hell, she was the host of the powerful goddess of light and served as a Vessel. This legend could hold its own merit when compared to her own situation... Wait! The Saiyan Overlord's amethyst gaze snapped back to Omega. "You said that there was a rumor about me," she told the powerful Fleet Master. "So what does this have to do with me?" Even as the words left the child's lips, Maragai had a sinking suspicion about what Omega was going to say next. 439/439/3700 |

The Saiyan's grin widened even further. "Here's the kicker," Omega told the child. "The date when you were made Earth's Overlord happens to fall on the hundred year mark that tells of a new hero. A lot of the humans believe that you are the new host for the spirit of the hero!" His ebony eyes shone, betraying the laughter he held back. "Huh." After a moment, Maragai shrugged. "I don't know about any spirit, but I am here to protect this planet. I suppose if it eases the humans' fears to think that I'm part of this legend, it helps things out in the long run, right?" To her relief, Omega nodded. "Yeah, but even with that, there's a lot of humans who don't trust us." A serious look crossed his face. "Can you really blame them...?" Maragai responded with a hushed whisper that was half aimed at herself. It didn't seem that the Saiyan Fleet Master heard her words because the goofy grin crept right back over his face. "Oh well," he declared, swiftly downing the rest of his water with a thirsty series of gulps. "I found the rumor funny, so I thought you would want to know. Now where were we?" Maragai only let out a noncommittal murmur and sank into a fighting stance so she could continue her spar with the Fleet Master. Though normally, she would have found it humorous, there was something dark about the humans' legend. Somehow, the Vessel of Light felt that she hadn't heard the last of it. Omega only sparred with the new Overlord of Earth for about an hour after that. Maragai's movements were sloppy and her reaction time had deteriorated to a point that was less than favorable. Try as she might, the child of light simply couldn't devote her full attention to the training. Though Omega didn't say anything about it, the young hybrid could see that he was a bit disappointed. Finally, the Saiyan Fleet Master broke away after landing a jarring strike to the side of Maragai's undefended chest. Maragai hit the tiled floor of the graviton with a thud and lay there winded for a moment before scrambling ungracefully to her feet. She was met with the dying groan of the gravity chamber as Omega used the time to cross the room and shut the power off. "Let's call it quits for the day," he announced, wiping the sweat from his brow with a nearby towel. Without a single farewell, the Saiyan turned and left the room. Maragai opened her mouth, then closed it. How was she supposed to explain her scattered thoughts? Frowning slightly, the girl waited for a couple of heartbeats before quickly exiting the room herself and jogging to catch up with Omega. 464/903/3700 |

"Hang on! Hang on!" Omega had picked up quite the power walk when he had exited the gravity chamber; Maragai had to jog to catch up. The Fleet Master turned when the child of light caught up, but didn't say a thing. With neutral eyes, the Saiyan warrior waited for the Vessel to speak. The girl stopped and looked up at the much taller man. "I'm sorry," she puffed, trying to catch her breath. "There's just something I need to check out. Then I'll take this training seriously." Maragai looked deeply into the Fleet Master's eyes, desperate for the Saiyan to lighten up. His previous dismissal had stung so much more than the final blow he had landed only moments ago. To the Vessel of Light's relief, a grin crossed Omega's lips. He reached over and briefly ruffled the child's hair with a gloved hand. "You're such a scatter brain," he said. "You know that, don't you?" Maragai sheepishly nodded. It was true, after all. "Go and take care of whatever you need to do," the Saiyan Fleet Master finished as he turned around to leave. "Thanks, Omega!" Maragai called out after him. Before she turned to depart in the opposite direction, she saw Omega throw up his first two fingers up in response - a peace sign over his shoulder. "See ya..." Maragai turned and left the Saiyan training grounds. Even as the child walked, she couldn't figure out exactly what it was that plagued her mind. She turned this way and that, nodding briefly to the various guards and soldiers that greeted her as she passed them. Where was she going? Why was she walking around? The Saiyan Overlord had no idea. Only when she stopped before a massive building did Maragai look up to see where her wandering feet had carried her. A plain sign rested above the double wooden doors that led to a five story stone building. The Saiyan Archives. There was one on every world where there was a Saiyan presence. They all carried Saiyan literature as well as records - both modern and ancient. But this one was bigger than the others that Maragai had visited. This place carried every piece of literature known to be authored by the human race. Such a vast collection took too much room up to be kept physical. Instead, most of it was recorded in holocrons as well as datacrons. Only the most ancient of texts were kept in a physical format, protected fiercely by an airtight room. Any visitors who wished to view them would not be allowed in the room. Rather, they could view their selection through a complex machine that retrieved the texts. Even more so, the machine that handled these delicate objects had to go through an extensive maintenance program as well as bi daily calibration to ensure the preservation of such artifacts. Without even consciously thinking about her actions, the young Vessel of Light found herself entering the massive building. After the wooden doors, an automatic reinforced door slid open once a nearby machine scanned Maragai's bio signature, thereby checking her in. She entered slowly, looking around at the shelves upon shelves that surrounded her. "Oh!" The child looked at the desk ahead of her as the female Saiyan serving there watched her enter with a surprised look on her face. "You're Overlord Maragai aren't you?" Before the preteen could answer, the lady swept on. "Yes, yes! You are! I watched your fight against Pan. What a battle!" The woman sighed wistfully. "I wish I could do things like that," she continued. Maragai shifted uncomfortably. Didn't this woman ever stop talking? Then again, judging by the lack of anything in the archives, perhaps she was just lonely. "Oh well." Another wistful sigh. "Nobody would be here to take care of this information." Maragai opened her mouth. She now knew why she was here for. The myth. The legend. The spirit of the hero. Surely there were some texts on the subject. Was there any truth to the stories? But before she could ask anything about it, the Saiyan lady in charge of the archives had found the second wind she needed to continue on her rant. "I can't believe how much you've achieved! And you're so young... Already an Overlord - and a Super Saiyan! I honestly thought I'd go my entire life without seeing one! Do you think I could become a Super Saiyan?" "I-" One word. That's all the young Vessel of Light could edge out. It was as if this woman had never ending air to use in talking. "Oh, who am I kidding? I'll probably be taking care of this place the rest of my life. I don't mind, really. I mean, I'm no combat type like you are. The instructors at the Saiyan Academy laughed me out of there when I was only ten. How old are you, anyway?" "T-twelve..." Maragai answered, wondering not for the first time why it was that everybody had to bring her age into question. Still, this wasn't why she was here! "I was wondering if you-" "Twelve?" The Saiyan woman's eyes widened in surprise. "You're only twelve years old?" "Well yeah," Maragai answered, finding her patience beginning to slip away. "But-" "I have a daughter that's only a year older than you..." The woman's ebony eyes brimmed with an unspoken emotion that made the young girl even more uncomfortable than she had been already. Finally, a break. "I was wondering if you had any material on the story revolving around Spirit Day for the humans." 934/1837 |
