The ‘Great Peetzae’ sat in the corner of the dimly lit cottage. He was bounded by a rope around his arms and legs, preventing him from moving. Yet Tohru somewhat wished there was enough rope to bound his open mouth as he spat forth declarations of his greatness and how both the witch Ayako and fighter Tohru had better release him or prepare to face the consequences.

“Are you sure this rope will be able to restrain him? He has a special ability to enter and exit through any shadows,” Tohru asked aloud as he glanced at a witch known as Ayako.

The wrinkled face of the hunched over witch nodded calmly, “Do not doubt me, young Halfling, this rope is enchanted by a special spell that weakens the abilities of Shadow Demons like this one here.”

FOOLISH MORTALS! YOU WOULD BE WISE TO RELEASE ME OR PREPARE TO FACE THE WRAITH OF THE MIGHTY PEETZAE!” the yellow demon known as Peetzae cried out.

“Although his yapping is becoming too much to handle,” and with that, the witch swerved two of her fingers in the air, and a spell seemed to come upon Peetzae as his prattling ceased and his head rolled over in a deep sleep.

Tohru had just recently defeated this yellow skinned demon in a duel in Satan City. The only reason for the duel was that Tohru had heard Peetzae declaring with his loud mouth that he was working for the Demon King Rosnar. Tohru had heard of this name only once before, when he fought against a demon known as Salisify. She claimed to have been put to a test of killing Tohru and was given this task by a demon known as Kang.

Kang was the same man who had killed Tohru’s father years ago, and he had been searching for him for years. However, Tohru wasn’t sure how everything was connected yet, and was hoping that the Peetzae was also hired by Kang and would possibly know of his location.

It was because of this that Tohru brought him to a witch known as Ayako, a witch who had signed a blood contract with the Demonic Hybrid. It allowed for the two of them to remain connected, and the witch could summon Tohru to do her bidding, or Tohru could use her as a source for information. He was summoned to her cottage with the Peetzae in tow.

The cottage itself seemed to be located in a dark swamp, but Tohru knew not where. The inside of the circular house was filled with dusty old books, desks with papers, vials, and boiling potions. A large cauldron was near the middle of the room, brimming with a putrid smell inside of it. The cottage was dimly lit by dozens of candles of which some were suspended in mid air.

“So, have you ever heard of a demon king known as Rosnar?” Tohru inquired of the witch.

The witch snickered, “There so many demon kings, it’s too hard to keep track of them.”

“Well, is there an easy way to extract information from this guy?” Tohru asked as he gestured towards the yapping demon. The witch took a long puff from her pipe, exhaling smoke that seamlessly formed into a winged like image that flapped away.

“I could probe his mind, but it would take some time…a few days at least,” the witch responded.
“Is there a quicker way?” Tohru asked.

“Sure, but doing so risks killing the probed being. This demon probably wouldn’t be able to handle it, so I’ll have to probe his brain nice and slow. But this way, I’ll find out any information on Rosnar that he possesses, as well as any information on that demon known as Kang that you seem so obsessed about,” the woman spoke, taking another puff.

Tohru sighed; he didn’t want to wait long for the information. He was hungry for vengeance.
“Are you sure your ready to go after this demon again?” the witch suddenly asked. Tohru gave her a questioning look. Ayako gazed deeply at him with her purple eyes.

“I know that you fought Kang recently, just about two weeks ago correct? You two collided at the Crimson Fist League Tournament that I sent you to so you could gain information,” Ayako stated, she gave a sly smile as her tone raised to an almost squeeling tone, “And you lost quite badly from what I saw.”

Tohru’s face wrinkled into a glare as he barked, “Were you there?!”

“No, not exactly, but I watched you closely from a crystal ball. You have to remain that you are indeed important to me, you’re too useful,” the witch chuckled, “Do you think you’ve improved enough to face him again?”

Tohru growled, “I don’t need your approval or your advice on who I fight witch!”

The amusement in the witch’s face seemed to fade away as she squeezed her eyelids closer together in a deep stare towards the Hybrid.

“Didn’t you hear what I just said, you’re too useful to me to lose, and if you fight him again, you will die for certain,” the witch spoke coldly. She then turned around, puffing on her pipe slowly as she walked towards one of her tables that was brimming with large papers.

Tohru was about to continue to challenge her, but she cut him off as she loudly declared, “Besides, you can’t go after Kang until you’ve completed another task for me.”

The hybrid raised a brow, and the witch turned around with a sneering smirk almost as if she expected Tohru to be confused, “I won’t do this favor for you, unless you complete a task for me. Remember, I already have helped you out before, and so now, I don’t owe you anything.”

Frustration ran through Tohru’s mind as he clenched his fists together, “I killed Kami’s apprentice for you, and you think that you’ve returned the favor by advising me to go to an underground tournament just to receive information? Somehow, that doesn’t seem like an equal bargain.”

“That advise led you to Kang did it not?” the witch challenged. Tohru knew that was no point in further argument.

“Fine, then what is it that you require, old witch?” Tohru asked.

“A special type of mushroom that grows only in a specific place known as The Abyss, it was known commonly in ancient legends and myths as The Underworld, a place where the dead reside,” Ayako began to start shuffling through the papers on her desk, “The mushroom isn’t hard to miss, it glows a bright green light, and grows only underneath a special large tree known as the Giant’s Tree.”

“Alright, sounds easy enough,” Tohru spoke, to which the witch chuckled with a dark delight.

“Oh it won’t be. The Abyss is filled with demons of all kinds, and the deeper down you go, the stronger the demons become,” the witch grabbed onto something underneath a large pile of papers and slid it out. She patted it a few times to get rid of a thick layer of dust, and then she turned around and began to walk towards Tohru, “However, the fact that there are so many demons there could work to your advantage.”

“How so?” Tohru inquired. Ayako handed Tohru a small book that was covered in a black like leather. There was a symbol on the front cover, it was that of a skull with torn flesh around it.

“That is a ‘Book of Souls’. It has been used in the past by demon hunters, witches, and demons alike,” Ayako declared. Tohru studied the book intently before carefully flipping the cover open to reveal its contents. Yet all of its pages were blank.

Tohru glanced up with an exaggerated, amused expression, “Seems really helpful.”

The witch chuckled, “The way it works is that after you have slain a demon, you may recite the demon’s name into the book, and it will become emblazoned onto the pages. By doing so, you absorb some of your power into yourself. This will help specifically if you defeat a demon of a certain element, for which you will gain either more resistance or strength from that specific element, such as water or fire,” Ayako stated.

Tohru chuckled, his whole life seemed to be spent avoiding his more demonic side, yet in only the few weeks he had known the witch, she seemed to continuously emerge him into the darker side of himself.

“Oh I almost forgot, give me your hand,” Ayako stated. Tohru hesitated for just a moment before extending his hand, just right above the book. The witch reached out and then pricked his finger with one of her long nails. A droplet of blood fell from his finger and plopped onto the book’s cover.

The skull seemed to twitch as it suddenly opened its jaws. A tongue appeared from within and sprayed out, giving the appearance of the face of death. The blood seemed to spread across the book, coloring the cover from its blackness to a now dark red.

“There,” Ayako stated, “Now the book is forever tied to you.”

“You sure have a fetish for blood,” Tohru stated as he licked his finger.

The witch then retrieved two other items from her sleeve and handed them to the Hybrid. One of them was a necklace with a tiny round object that hung from it. It was soft to the touch, and seemed to be fragile, almost like a berry or small fruit. The other item was a small crystal like gem with a dark purple hue.

“The necklace will allow you to teleport back, if I won’t be able to when you’re in the Abyss. All you have to do is squeeze it, and when it breaks, simply state where you wish to teleport. The other item is for you to use if a situation becomes…hairy. Again, all you have to do is break it,” the witch stated.

The hybrid stood there with all three demonic items in his hand, struggling not to feel slightly overwhelmed. However, Ayako then seemed to remember just one last thing as she reached for a parchment of paper and handed it to Tohru.

“This is a map that will lead you to the mushroom I require,” Ayako stated. “I only require one, and if you don’t bring it back, then I will have no reason to give you the information you require from this demon.”

Tohru nodded, placing the Teleportation Necklace around his neck and tucking the small ‘Book of Souls’ and the crystal in one of his pouches, and keeping the parchment map rolled up in one hand.

“So when do I-“

The witch swung one of her fingers in front of Tohru, and the Hybrid suddenly felt like he was absorbed into a whirlpool.

Kang’s eyes snapped open as he awoke from his deep meditation. He exhaled a cold breath as his mouth stretched completely across his face with a fanged smirk. A twitching sensation of excitement ran down the center of his spine.

“So…he’s here…” Kang hissed.

His partner who was leaning up against one of the stone walls of the meditation chamber glanced up from the dark pages of her book with a curious expression underneath her purple hood.
“Who?” she inquired.

“Tohru,” Kang stated. The woman’s pale face expressed a look of surprise as her yellow eyes widened.

“But…how?” she further inquired.

“I don’t know,” Kang spoke with an interesting tone as his eyes rolled to one corner in deep thought, “I don’t believe he’s powerful enough to travel here himself, so he must have made a new friend recently.”

The wild, black haired demon stood up to his full height of seven feet. His muscular body riddled with scars as he turned around to the entrance of the chamber.

“STONE!” the towering demon cried out.

Within just seconds, an almost equally large figure emerged from the shadows of the entrance. The figure was human looking in appearance, with white skin and shortly cut blonde hair. Yet demon blood ran through this creature’s veins. Though not taller than Kang, Stone was much more muscular. His face had a constant black stare, which was made even more prominent by the fact that he had no eyebrows.

“Yes master?” the deep toned Stone questioned.

“We have a new visitor to the Abyss. He’s a demon hybrid, and his name is Tohru. It appears that he is right outside of the Fallen Garden. We do not know how he was able to get here, I require you to find this matter out. However, he is also a nuisance to our goals, and he must be dealt with accordingly,” the scarred demon demanded.

Stone had a cold smile appear across his face, matched with an equally cold toned chuckle, “Understood, Master.”

With that, the large demon turned and walked back through the entrance.

“We cannot have Tohru die,” the pale skinned lady demon stated firmly.

IF I wanted Tohru dead, I would have gone myself,” Kang stated, widening his fanged smirk, “It is quite troublesome that our little hybrid was able to make it into the Abyss without us understanding how. And that is all I require out of Stone. If Stone comes close to finishing off Tohru, then I will simply step in; and if it goes the other way, well, then that would just help further our plans.”

With that, Kang lowered himself back down into his cross legged sitting position. Taking a deep breath and relaxing back into his meditation, “If Tohru isn’t strong enough to defeat Stone then perhaps he’s not the demon we hoped him to be.”

Tohru gazed down onto the parchment of paper. It certainly had some magic properties about it. There was a glowing red dot, and Tohru assumed it was showing his location. There was then a green dot located in the upper left corner of the parchment paper. He assumed this was the mushroom.

Looking around, Tohru found himself to be in what seemed to be a sewer of some kind, or a waterway. There were several tunnels where water spewed out into the large water bed beside him. He raised his Sense ability, but he couldn’t sense any power levels around him. Still, he made sure to keep his Sense ability heightened in case of a sudden sneak attack. This was his first time in The Abyss, and if Ayako was correct about the dangers of demons, he would have to keep his guard up.

“Well, guess I better not waste anymore time,” Tohru thought aloud as he began walking in the direction of the green dot on the map.

Tohru found himself traversing several tunnels, all looking very similar to each other. They seemed to not share any form of a pattern, and often didn’t make architectural sense, with many of the tunnels leading into dead ends or fall offs. Often Tohru found himself being turned around the wrong way without realizing it until he gazed back at the map to see the red dot moving further away from the green dot. There were many curses echoing in the tunnels that night.

Suddenly however, as Tohru passed by a large tunnel, he heard a quiet whimpering. He turned and saw what appeared to be a little girl crying in the distance, her back turned towards him. Tohru studied the tunnel carefully, looking for anything to be suspicious of. The tunnel only possessed bricks and the water that ran through the middle of it.

With curiousity leading him, Tohru began to walk towards the little girl.

“Uh…Are you lost little girl?” Tohru inquired. The little girl turned around, her face red with tears. With a quivering lip, she spoke in a delicate voice, “I’ve lost my parents…”

Tohru was taken in by the delicate fragile face of the girl. He was confused about her sudden appearance however, and wasn’t sure if she was a demon herself, or was perhaps just a little girl who became trapped her.

The Hybrid slowly lowered himself onto one knee to get down on the girl’s level, “What was the last thing you remember hap-“

Tohru then suddenly sensed a power level appearing behind him. He quickly rolled to the side, avoiding a shrieking demon as she rushed past him from above. Tohru cursed aloud as he saw the light skinned demon cut through the little girl. However, the girl’s figure dissipated into water.

Just an illusion…? Tohru pondered.

The light skinned demon spun around, she had two blades that appeared to be made entirely out of water extending from her forearms. Her eyes glowed a fiercesome red, and she appeared to have a set of gills on the sides of her face.

“You’re not a demon, but you’re not quite human either! What are you?!” the female demon hissed.

Tohru smirked as he raised himself up and brought his guard out, “Just a fighter running an errand.”

The aquatic demon shot the Hybrid a confused look, but then she seemed to replace that expression with a violent snarling one as she spoke, “What does it matter?! Your flesh looks human, so it should taste the same!”

With that, the pale demon rushed forward, swinging her aquatic blades skillfully at the Hybrid. Tohru kept light on his feet as he dodged each of the blades, studying his opponent’s fighting style intently in order to deduce an opening of some kind.

Tohru had always grown up being a more aggressive fighter, and it was only within the last few weeks that he was learning to become more cunning. It was mostly due to some very humiliating and punishing losses, something that he was not accustom to in his younger days. He had learned that ruthless aggression should be balanced with a sort of serenity and foresight during the battle. Learning how to use that aggression at the right moment was what spelt out victory in any fight.

As he studied her style, he managed to find openings here and there. He used these openings to throw quick strikes, not leaving himself open long enough for her to strike back. After a few successful blows, the she demon began to become overly agitated, and thus her technique began to suffer as she gave in to her anger, swinging wildly with her blades.

The Hybrid tucked under a vicious angled swing from the demon’s left blade, and sent an uppercut straight into her ribs. He quickly followed through with a lunge kick in the same area. This time, he heard a crack.

The demon gasped in pain as she stumbled back, her aquatic blades now began to quiver. It seemed that her control over them depended on the state of her body. With his opponent now slightly stunned, Tohru raced forward, throwing a fury of hand swipes and palm heel strikes to his opponent. It was his new signature Wolf Style that allowed him to become so efficient at hand techniques. He finished his combo with a powerful palm heel straight into the water demon’s chest.

Despite being in obvious pain, the creature retaliated with a thrust of her blade, to which Tohru swiftly dodged and knocked the arm away. Placing her off balance with his deflect of the stab, Tohru swooped in and wrapped his large arms around the neck of the demon. The two struggled for only a few seconds before Tohru successfully managed to snap her neck.

Releasing his grip, Tohru allowed the lifeless body to fall limb to the watery ground of the tunnel.
The body of the water demon then began to evaporate, and a glowing insignia was left in her place. Tohru couldn’t read its language, but suspected that it was the demon’s name. This was perhaps what demon hunters of old used to read in order to claim the demon’s powers in their ‘Soul Book’.

Tohru leaned down as he inspected the insignia closely, and couldn’t help but wonder about the mysteries of the demon race. Despite being half demon, there was so little he knew about them. He wondered if this would possibly hinder him in future battle with Kang.

Perhaps studying more about demons would allow me to unveil some weaknesses… Tohru pondered thoughts that he wouldn’t have even considered just a mere few weeks ago. He had indeed grown in his training with Roshi, and of course, through his recent defeated battles.

However, having slain this demon with little effort, Tohru was now gleaming with confidence. He rose to his feet with a smirk, glancing again at the parchment map, he began to make his way towards his destination.

The tunnels of the waterways began to have roots protruding from their brick walls, and Tohru felt like he was finally getting close to his destination. His marker on the map moved at a snail’s pace, but he now appeared to be more than halfway there.

As he rounded a corner, Tohru saw a faint yellow light emitting from the exit of one of the tunnels. Roots seemed to crawl into the tunnel’s entrance, like fingers reaching inside a crevice. Dark green and grayish leaves dangled above the entrance.

Perhaps it was because of this sudden change of scenery that Tohru raised his Sense ability, almost instinctively expecting another trap or sneak attack. There was none, yet he did not lower his Sense ability. He kept it heightened, knowing that the deeper he went into The Abyss, the more dangerous his foes would become.

Sensing that there was no immediate danger, Tohru continued to walk forward. As he passed through the entrance, he was taken by how much a change of scenery occurred.

The area Tohru found himself in was filled with a dark green and grayish mixture of vegetation. Why there was vegetation in The Abyss, which was essentially The Underworld, Tohru would never know. Yet, the grayish color of green seemed to reflect the dreariness of The Abyss.

Large patches of grass covered the dark soil, as oak like trees towered above the ground. Their leaning posture and hanging branches almost had a sense of dread to them. Tohru gazed up to see if there was a sky and if he was truly outside. There was no blue or dark sky, instead there was a rocky ceiling that towered hundreds of feet above him. While Tohru didn’t feel as trapped in here as he did in the waterway, he still couldn’t shake off the feeling of entrapment within this realm. He wondered if the scenery was like this all the way throughout The Abyss.

Taking one last glimpse at his map, Tohru continued to move on.

He chose not to fly and instead walked through the fields. Tohru felt that flying would make him too vulnerable and open to attack. Here on the ground, while feeling more entrapped underneath the towering oaks, he at least felt like he could anticipate and react to a sneak attack quicker.

As he walked further into the cavern’s forest, he began to become surrounded by the oaks, and it was from being closer to them that he began to notice that they all bore some kind of fruit. It was all the same, large, dark red fruit that seemed to form some sort of teardrop shape.

Out of curiousity, Tohru walked up to one of the fruits to inspect it. It might be an interesting object to bring back to Ayako, perhaps gain him some favor with the old witch.

However, as he came closer, he started to notice an image in the fruit. It wasn’t carved in…no, it appeared to almost grow from within the fruit, pushing past the inner walls as it seemed to struggle to break through. Tohru grasped onto one with one hand without breaking it from its dangling branch. He leaned his head in with his eyes squinted. The image…it was…

…a face.

A screaming face.

“The trees hear bear the sorrow of all of mankind’s sin.”

Tohru was startled by the sudden voice and spun around so violently that he accidentally ripped the fruit from its branch. He saw a maiden like figure standing several feet from him. She had long, unbrushed raven like hair, and was very slender. He skin was a light gray, practically matching that of the bark of the trees themselves.

“Mankind’s violent and tragic history is the soil for these trees, and the centuries of sin is the water that nourishes the fruit. Mankinds doomed destiny is the constant source of light that gives these trees life,” the maiden soft with an eerily soft voice. Yet she seemed to smile gently towards Tohru as she walked gracefully towards him.

She halted when she saw Tohru step back defensively. She gestured a hand up passively, “I understand your fear, but I am no demon.”

“How the hell can you prove it?” Tohru challenged. The woman shrugged, almost playfully.
“I’m not sure. But you don’t seem to be completely demon yourself,” the woman stated as she cocked her head, causing her raven hair to slid down to one side.

Tohru studied her intently. Her power level was extremely low, and it seemed to back up that she could be a human and not a demon. Her perception of him seemed uncanny for a human however. How would she be able to tell that he wasn’t a demon, or that he was a demon?
Her curious expression made it seem like she wanted to study Tohru more. But she could tell that the Hybrid was not going to let her get close to him. She smiled gently once more, and boldly took a few slow steps towards the large Hybrid.

“I was once a human, and yet, somehow, I ended up here…I’m not sure how…or why…” her soft cheery expression seem to fade just slightly to reveal some form of sadness and confusion, “But it feels so long ago. Yet I do remember, that when I came here, I ate from one of these fruits.”
As she spoke, she raised a slender gray hand up and caressed one of the dangling fruits, “Each fruit contains all of humankind’s pain and suffering, as well as their sorrow. And to eat one, just to take one bite, will cause a person to become damned with eternal sorrow; that they will ‘cry an endless river of tears’.”

She giggled eerily as she spoke those last words, “But, I don’t believe I can cry anymore.”

Tohru hadn’t realized how close she had gotten, and she was within an arms reach distance now. Tohru could see her face, and saw her suck in tearducts. There were several dark lines leading down from the bottom of her eyes, they stretched the skin of her cheeks and ran past her chin. It was almost as if her tears had cut through her face.

Her eyes were completely bloodshot, and were so red that they almost appeared to glow.
Tohru couldn’t help but feel some sort of sympathy for this woman now. Her story could definitely be true, yet he held off his emotions, he was still expecting this to be some sort of trap.
Yet at the same time, she didn’t seem to have the same empty presence that the little girl seemed to have before. No, she seemed like a true human being, and even though Tohru could technically only sense power levels, he sensed a different force within her. A force that was more appropriately deemed as a terrible burden than a powerful one.

“I honestly cannot remember why I chose to eat the fruit,” the white clothed maiden spoke as she reached out slowly and grasped onto the fruit that Tohru held. Her fingers were ice cold to the touch, and almost caused Tohru to drop the fruit.

The maiden took hold of the fruit and then brought it up to her face as she stared straight into the frozen screech within the dark red fruit. She caressed it with both hands as if she was caressing the face of a lover.

“Why did I eat it…? Was it knowledge I was after? Was it curiosity? Was I once a goddess who was dared to do so by another? Did I come here alone?” despite her cold words, a smile appeared across her pale, scarred face, “Sometimes I think that the guilt over my decision to eat this fruit has caused me more sorrow than the fruit itself.”

Her sorrow was practically palpable, and despite her grotesque appearance, Tohru felt calm around her now that she was closer. Her voice was soft and soothing, a stark contrast to the fate that she was now serving.

Almost seeming to notice that Tohru had become more relaxed around her, the maiden glanced up from the fruit she held. She smiled as she tilted her head curiously, staring into Tohru’s dark eyes with her bloodshot ones.

“There’s….something about you though…what is it exactly…?”

Tohru wasn’t sure how to answer this, so he hesitated slightly before trying to attempt an answer.
“Well…You’re right, I’m not exactly a full demon. I’m only a hybrid, half demon, half human,” Tohru stated, “but before you ask, I’m never met my parents, so not sure which one was which.”

The maiden smiled, almost reacting to Tohru’s answers as if he was telling a joke.

“It’s been so long since I’ve seen another human, I’ve forgotten about the warmth from simple interaction,” the maiden’s eyes seemed to become even more bloodshot, as if she was tearing up. Yet no tears formed.

Tohru wanted to save her. He wanted to abandon his mission and find a way to free this woman from her curse. There had to be a way!

There was then a twitch amidst the cheery expression of the maiden. Her eyes began to stop quivering, her smile turned upside down.

“There’s…something…” her eyes almost seemed to look beyond Tohru’s eyes, peering deep within his own soul, “You…You…You will bring hellfire upon the Earth…you will cause death…misery…and torment to all of the living!”

The Hybrid was appalled by her sudden declaration, but before he could speak, the maiden’s eyes grew violently wide as her mouth stretched open.

A loud, sorrowful pitch scream echoed from her lips. The sudden scream startled Tohru as he took a step back, almost feeling the invisible force of the scream push him back.

Then suddenly, there were more screams. They pierced through him as if they were spears. He felt his emotions suddenly run wild, as if each scream was causing him to become more depressed. Tohru gazed around frantically in search of the sources, only to find the faces on the dangling fruit around him stretching their already agape mouths, pitching out shrieks and un-worldly screams.

Tohru fell to a knee with his hands cupped around his ears. The screams echoed within his hand. He frantically powered up his Bukujustu and flew into the sky. His vision was blurred, causing him to fly around wildly as he desperately looked for an exit. Despite flying away from the maiden, he could still hear her screams and those of the sorrow fruit as if he was still in the middle of them. He could then hear the maiden’s voice chanting, “DEATH…DESTRUCTION…TORMENT…DEATH….DESTRUCTION…TORMENT…HELLFIRE!!!”

Eventually Tohru found an opening near the forest’s edge. It seemed to lead into some type of cavern. Tohru desperately flew towards it. He smacked and slid against the rocky walls of the cavern as he made his exit from the forest. The cries and screams eventually died, and Tohru now lied on the rocky ground, covered in sweat and scrapes.

Panting heavily, Tohru lifted himself up to his feet slowly. He took a moment to regain his focus, closing his eyes and began to take several deep breathes. His eyes then suddenly shot open as he realized something.

He didn’t have the map with him.

The cavern echoed with his curses as he pounded the rocky walls with his fist.

“Damn it! How could I lose it!” Tohru growled. There was no question in going back to that damned forest, yet Tohru wasn’t even sure if he was on the right track. In his confused flight, he might have gotten turned around and was now further away from his destination.

Tohru then focused once more on his breathing. He had to think of a plan. Perhaps it might be a good idea to use the Teleportation Necklace to return to Ayako. But if he did that, he would return empty handed, and the damn witch had assured him that she would not give him any information that she would gather from Peetzae regarding the demon Kang.

“…Damn it…I can’t believe I dropped it…” Tohru muttered.

It was in his frustrated distraction that Tohru did not sense the large power level suddenly heading towards him. A large fist suddenly broke out from the rocky wall that he leaned against, and Tohru was clobbered right in the jaw.

The hybrid flew back, tumbling upon himself, almost blacking out from the force of the blow.

Tohru shook off the dizziness in his head as he gazed out at his assailant. A large figure stood by the open crater in the stone wall of the cavern. He had shortly cut blonde hair that sat atop a square like face. He possessed no eyes, giving his face an eerie creepiness to it. His eyes seemed to squint as he studied the Hybrid before him.

“Tohru I presume?” the gravy voiced demon inquired. Tohru rubbed his sore jaw, spitting out a lick of blood before rising to his feet.

“Why do you ask?”

“I’ve been sent here to deal with you,” the large demon said with a smile, cracking his large knuckles.

Tohru raised a brow, “Oh so you’re a lapdog, so who’s your master boy?”

The smile disappeared in an instant at the retort, and the blonde demon launched forward. Tohru barely managed to dodge to the side, his brown weighted cape flapping behind him. The large demon smashed his fist straight through the stone wall.

Tohru was surprised by the demon’s speed despite his large size, and his strength was something to be reckoned with.

The large being turned his head towards Tohru, “No one calls Stone a dog.”

Stone ripped his fist straight out of the wall. With just a quick inspection, Tohru couldn’t see any damage done to the man’s hand. He had punched through solid rock as if it was Styrofoam. Tohru knew speed was going to be important in this fight, so he swung off his brown weighted cape and turban, leaving on only his boots and black, sleeveless karate gui. The hybrid simply smiled at the larger demon, and proceeded to place himself into his Wolf Stance by sliding his right foot back and raising his craned palms up into the air.

The large demon chuckled deeply, “That pathetic Earth Style will be no match for me, Halfling.”

The towering demon placed one foot forward and lowered his weight. He then brought two hands criss-crossed across his head, with each hand by the side of his head, palms facing out. It didn’t seem like a stance that someone of his size and strength would use, and almost seemed more defensive.

“I was told to find out how you managed to enter into the Abyss, but what does it matter? Once you’re dead, we won’t have to deal with you again,” Stone spoke proudly.

Tohru’s fingers curled fiercely, almost as if they had become claws themselves, “I’m going to assume that your master is Kang.”

The large demon smiled, “That’s right, and I’m not quite sure what his fascination is with you. I know he fought you on earth a little while ago, and apparently, you were quite the punching bag.”

Tohru growled with anger, but held himself at bay. He hadn’t noticed it before, but his head was still banging from the screeching forest. He was still disoriented as to why the sorrowful maiden had freaked out upon inspecting him, and why she said those things, that Tohru was going to bring torment to the world. Despite trying to push it to the back of his mind, he couldn’t help but be distracted by it.

Before Tohru even knew it, Stone rushed forward. Yet the Hybrid was quite to react, and spun in the air with a jump reverse side kick, digging his heel straight into the gut of the large demon. Despite the reverse sidekick being a natural power kick, his heel seemed to dig into Stone’s abs slightly before the Hybrid was bounced off of him. The large demon then rushed forward, thrusting hand strike after hand strike upon Tohru. The Hybrid ducked and weaved under all the blows. He thought he saw an opening, and so Tohru attempted strike Stone across the face, yet the large demon almost seemed to anticipate this and swung a back fist straight across Tohru’s face.

With blood trailing from his noise, Tohru tumbled over onto the cold hard ground. But before he could return to his feet, he was lifted up by Stone as the large demon wrapped his giant arms around the Hybrid. Stone then began to squeeze tightly and Tohru howled out in pain as he felt his ribs beginning to crack. Tohru began to send his heels up into the knees of his assailant, but his strikes bounced off him as if he was hitting a solid wall. The behemoth tightened his grip around Tohru, and the Hybrid screamed out the last amount of oxygen in his burning lungs.
Tohru suddenly found himself in a panic mode, his mind raced to all sorts of possibilities, and even the thought of accepting death seemed to linger in his mind.

At what was perhaps the very last few seconds of his life, the tightened grip was suddenly released, and Tohru was thrown to the ground, sliding forward and scraping his skin across the rocky ground. He gasped for breath as air pumped back into his lungs.

“There’s nothing to do here for fun, Halfling, you have to entertain me longer,” Tohru heard the gravilily voice behind him speak.

The Hybrid was suddenly filled with anger as his muscles bulged out, his teeth morphed into fangs. Tohru roared as he lifted up, thrusting his arms wildly forward in a series of open palm strikes. Stone’s eyes widened in surprise by the Halfling’s sudden speed, and he wasn’t prepared to receive Tohru’s attack as the Hybrid went to town against his torso.

Tohru could feel his palms ripping in pain with each blow against Stone’s hard body. The pain fueled his demonic rage all the more, and Tohru began to repeatedly pound his right palm into one spot on Stone’s stomach. The giant demon hunched over as he absorbed one of the power blows and then pushed Tohru off of him. The Hybrid bounced back from the force by thrusting a lunge kick straight into the demon’s now extended stomach.

Saliva spat out of Stone’s mouth as he hunched over and wrapped his large arms around his stomach. A mixed expression of pain and confusion was present on his face. Tohru then roared wildly as he powered up his ki, black aura surrounded him as he flew straight up and smashed a knee straight into the face of Stone. The behemoth groaned in pain as he fell and slammed straight onto his back with a loud boom.

With fangs still protruding from his dentures, Tohru began to spat out, “GET BACK UP! GET THE FUCK BACK UP!”

Stone gazed up, a trail of blood leading down from his noise, his face still expressing confusion. He then chuckled as he slowly lifted himself up, “Well, looks like you are going to provide me with a bit of entertainment.”

The large demon grabbed hold of his own gui top, and with one mighty pull he ripped it off, revealing his large torso muscles. He extended his arms out as if to show off his impressive physique. A crooked smirk spread across his wide face, “Let’s see how you handle this, Halfling.”

Stone grunted loudly as his muscles bulged out even larger, and then they began to twist and turn in place. A grayish hue began to wash over them as Tohru began to notice that his muscles seemed to hardened as if they were made of rock. Stone now stood, slightly taller than before, fully armored in rock like armor. His short blonde hair was now a stark contrast compared to his dark body. Another proud smirk was placed on his face.

Tohru stood there, appalled by the transformation. His hands were still aching from just hitting that demon’s normal flesh, how was he going to break through this?

Before he could come up with a strategy, the large stone hand of the demon reached out and grasped onto the entire head of Tohru; the hybrid screamed in pain as the gripped tightened. The large rock demon’s fingers cutting into Tohru’s very skull as he lifted him off the ground.

“Let me pay you back for all those strikes you gave me earlier!” Stone yelled out as he pulled his other large fist back, and then thrust it violently into the gut of Tohru. Blood spewed from Tohru’s mouth as the granite fist caved in his organs. The large rock demon then repeated the strike over and over, with Tohru dangling completely helpless from his grasp.

After one final punch, the demon then threw Tohru across the cavern’s tunnel. Lying there with blood leaking from his mouth, Tohru desperately tried to bring himself up. He then heard thunderous pounding, and when he glanced he saw the large demon running towards him. Stone lifted one of his giant granite feet straight into the stomach of the Hybrid. Tohru didn’t have any breath in him to be able to scream from the tremendous pain as he soared deeper into the cavern’s tunnel. He rolled violently across the ground.

He heard the demon’s deep tone echoing through the tunnel’s interior, “I do still want to prolong your death for as long as I can, but unfortunately, in this form, I don’t think that’ll be possible. So be happy Halfling, that your death will be short, though extremely painful.”

Tohru was more beaten now than he was before, yet his mind was somehow very serene. Perhaps it was because he was pushed beyond his limits to contain his pain. He wasn’t ready to accept his fate, but his body was completely wasted.

However, he noticed a sharp pain in his leg that seemed peculiar…and then he remembered! He slowly slipped his left hand into a pocket of his gui pants. He grasped onto a purple crystal that Ayako had given him. The Hybrid knew not what it would do, but it was his last chance to survive.

Stone lifted Tohru into the air by grabbing onto his right arm. The rock behemoth inspected his work and smiled, “You have been entertaining, Halfling, so perhaps I shouldn’t beat you to a pulp? Maybe I should bit off all of the flesh off your bones and see how long it takes before you die? Or I could rake off the skin around your face with my fingernai-“

Tohru growled through a mouth filled with blood as he summoned all of his strength and stabbed the large demon straight in his eye with the purple crystal. Stone cried out in pain as blood spurt out over the edges of the crystal. Tohru then squeezed with all of his might as he broke the crystal with his grip.

There was a sudden explosion of a blinding purple light, and Tohru felt himself being blown back by a powerful force.

Then, everything was black.

A young Tohru struggled to fight back tears as he held his bleeding knuckle in one hand. A large brick stood hoisted onto two brackets in front of him. A bloody knuckle imprint placed in front of him.

“Focus, and concentrate…” he heard his master’s soft words from the distance.

“I AM!” Tohru shouted as he snapped around at his master, “It just hurts too much! I told you I wasn’t ready for this!”

Gordo gazed down at his young pupil from the stone pillar on which he sat. A warm smile spread across his wide face as the beams of light that broke through the forest ceiling gleamed off his bald head.

“You are ready for this,” Gordo stated firmly, “and if you argue with me again, it’ll be no supper for you.”

The young Halfling growled as he turned to face the stone brick once more. He couldn’t even imagine trying to strike it again with his injured knuckle, but he knew his master wasn’t going to let him switch.

“Get into your stance and close your eyes, and breathe” he heard his master command.
The young Halfling extended the base of his feet, his left foot sliding closer to the brick as he pulled his bleeding right fist back to his side. His right hand extended in front of him. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, his breathing shaking from the trembling pain in his right fist.

“There are two planes of existence, the physical, and the spiritual, or rather, the conscious, and the unconscious. In our conscious existence, we are severely limited to what we see and what we feel. In this world, we are controlled by emotions and feelings such as pain and grief. The unconscious is the world where none of these limitations are placed upon us. However, in order to achieve the power of our unconscious existence, we must focus in on it with our mind.”

Tohru listened to his master’s words carefully. He had heard them before, but they didn’t seem to help with him breaking this damn brick that stood before him.

“Now breath…” he heard his master suddenly say again. The Halfling could then hear his master taking in his own deep breathes. It seemed to incline Tohru to do the same.

As he inhaled and exhaled, Tohru began to find the pain was numbing. The world around him seemed to grow quiet, yet loud at the same time as the Halfling could almost pick up the noise of a leave falling to the ground. Tohru felt serene, almost weightless in the darkness of his closed eyes.

“See the stone breaking within your mind, over and over. See your fist extending through its stone without any struggle. That as soon as your fist connects, it breaks.”

Through the darkness, Tohru could see the stone brick appearing before him. He saw it crumbling from the center.

“Now…attack!”

Tohru hollered out as he thrust his bleeding fist forward. A shattering noise opened his eyes and rid himself of his serene world. Before him lied the crumbled pieces of the brick. A extreme sense of joy filled the boy as he began to leap for joy, thrusting his trembling, bloody fist into the air. However, he suddenly felt the pain in his knuckles as he fell down to the forest floor, writhing in pain.

His master chuckled, “Still much to learn.”

Tohru’s eyes opened to a greenish glow blurring his vision. He could feel the cold sensation of soil beneath him. Craning his head upwards his vision returned to him as he found himself surrounded by glowing green mushrooms. He scanned the area around him slowly, feeling the soreness in his muscles as he realized that he was underneath a giant root from a tree. His mind raced back several memories as he tried to deduct how he ended up here.

Then he remembered the last moments with that behemoth demon known as Stone. Shattering the crystal released some sort of mysterious energy, and it must’ve transported him here. He wondered if the explosion had killed Stone, since the crystal itself had been jammed straight into the demon’s eye.

Tohru then sat upwards, slowly stretching his sore and bruised muscles, looking for any injuries. He was indeed beaten up, and his stomach ached from the inside out. As he lifted up his black karate top, he noticed his entire abs were covered with one large bruise. Rubbing his swollen chin, he noticed that it was covered with dried blood.

Sitting there in pain, his eyes returned to the collage of glowing mushrooms around him. He immediately remembered that this was his purpose for being down here in the first place. The Witch Ayako had sent him to retrieve just one of these mushrooms in exchange for a favor. Tohru reached out and pricked one from its stem.

Suddenly, Tohru felt a large presence descending near him. The Hybrid gazed forward to see a rock skinned demon walking before him, crunching the glowing mushrooms with his granite feet. His right eye was completely blown apart, and the right side of his face was covered in soot and burns. An angered expression covered the rest of his face.

“You little runt…I’m going to tear you apart for what you did to me!” the demon declared.
Tohru slowly raised himself up to his feet, with the mushroom still in one hand, he reached with the other onto a necklace that was adorned around his neck. It contained a round like berry that would allow him to travel back to Ayako simply by breaking it, almost in the same manner as the crystal.

The stone demon that stood before him had proven to be fare stronger than he, and Tohru wondered if he should just use this chance to escape. He had gotten what he needed, so by all means, he should have escaped.

Yet, his thoughts returned to that dream of his training with his master. The warmth of the forest’s floor seemed to surround him, his master’s calming words echoing in his mind…Focus…

With a smirk widening across his face, Tohru threw the mushroom down and released his hold on the teleportation berry. He then shifted his weight into a balance stance, with one hand extended forward, open palm, and his other, closed fist near his hip. Inhaling a deep breath, Tohru closed his eyes and began to focus.

“Unless you have any more tricks hidden up your sleeves Halfling, you won’t stand a chance!” Stone growled, “YOU’RE DEAD RUNT!”

The stone covered demon rushed forward, roaring as he lifted both hands above his head. As he came closer to Tohru, he noticed that the Halfling wasn’t moving an inch.

Tohru found himself in that serene, darkened world. The raspy roar of the demon fading away into the back of his mind; Tohru saw the same bloody brick appear before him. With intense concentration, Tohru saw it cracking, and then crumbling before him.

“There’s no way you’ll be able to break through my rock hard skin you puny insect!” Stone hollered out as he swung both arms down as he came into range.

Tohru’s eyes snapped open as he thrust his fist forward. Blood spluttered from Tohru’s knuckles, spraying across a cobweb of cracks that suddenly appeared across Stone’s granite belly. The large demon grunted in sudden pain from the force, his arms loosing all momentum and power as they stopped just above the Halfling’s shoulders.

Stone stumbled back, inspecting the cracks among his abdomen with shock. He then gazed back at Tohru with terror filled eyes, “T-That’s…not possible!”

Tohru ignored the rambling of the giant, as he took another deep breath, re-chambering his bloody hand. He closed his eyes, focusing his energy once more. The Hybrid no longer felt the pain that he had before, the bruises and cuts among his body no longer deterred his confidence. He then snapped his eyes open as he rushed forward towards the granite giant.

Stone seemed to shake his fear away as he too rushed towards the Halfling, reaching towards him with one of his large hands. The Hybrid ducked under the rock covered hand as he threw a series of well-focused strikes along the large demon’s torso, each blowing going higher than the last and each one leaving a fist sized dent within Stone’s armored skin. The last blow that Tohru sent into the granite demon was filled with so much force that it completely broke through his skin. Tohru could feel his fist ripping through flesh as blood leaked out across his forearm.
Blood leaked out of Stone’s granite jaws as he lurched forward, his large hands grabbing onto Tohru’s shoulders. All along his body, his rock like armor began to crack and crumble away, revealing a fleshy skin beneath.

His bloodshot eyes looking dazed into the distance, Stone painfully muttered, “How…how is this possible…?!”

As the last bit of stone fell around Tohru, he saw his arm completely pierced through the chest of the demon. It appeared that the rock armor actually replaced the demon’s skin while he was within that form, and breaking through it was like cutting through flesh. The Hybrid smiled as he stared up at the larger demon with cruel eyes, “FOCUS!”

Tohru thrust his left palm into the gut of the demon as he pulled his piercing fist back. The demon flew backwards, blood geyser out of his chest.

As the demon lied there, his body suddenly dried up and began to wither into sand. Just like the water demon that Tohru had fought before, an insignia appeared in the ashes. Though still not knowing how to read it, Tohru simply spoke, “Stone.”

The insignia flared up as ki like energy seemed to flow from it and flew into one of Tohru’s pockets, the one that held the ‘Book of Souls’. Tohru had claimed the demon’s power, and it would be the first of many, he was sure.

Tohru stood amidst the glowing green mushrooms with a feeling of serenity. Pain only slowly returning to him, which made him think, I should probably teleport back, before I pass out.
With that, the hybrid picked a mushroom and broke the teleportation berry, and found himself being transported away in a swirl of purple aura.

-----

Kang’s eyes snapped open from his meditation. The large demon had been watching the entire fight from a telepathic point of view, and the last actions of the duel between Tohru and Stone troubled him. A purple hooded she-demon off to his side glanced curiously at him. Though she had not been watching, she could sense it.

“Are you surprised that he won? I did tell you that Stone was a mindless brute, he’s no true warrior,” the female spoke.

“But he should’ve been more of a challenge to Tohru, he should’ve caused Tohru to have to unleash more of his demon side in order to win. But he didn’t, instead, the Halfling managed to beat him…using something else…” Kang muttered with eyes widened in shock. He ran a large hand through his wild black mane.

“It appears, that Tohru hasn’t forgotten his master’s teachings…this could be a problem for us...”
Kang glanced at the female with a worried expression, “If he manages to find a way to overcome and control his demon side, rather than allow it to control him, then he will not fulfill his destiny, and Rosnar’s reign will not come to fruition!” Kang spoke as he stood up defiantly, “or perhaps, he’s not the destined one after all!”

The large, scarred demon walked out of the meditation chamber in rage. The female demon smiled playfully as she returned her attention back to her book.

“Still butt hurt over not being the destined one are you Kang…” the demon said to herself as she flipped a page, “…I’m looking forward to seeing how you and Tohru’s second fight ends up going.”
