Rem Power Level: 45,000
Instructor Renaults Power Level: 75,000
Trainee Jin's Power Level: 33,000

The Story so far...

Rem has been getting his ass kicked by Instructor Renault. He just got out of the rejuvenation tank for the 3rd time this week, thanks to Renaults abusive training methods...

At the same time Rem was healing, his Training Squad went on a 1,000 Mile run in x20 Gravity with Renault. Unfortunately, something happened. A fire broke out at the Tron Training Center.

Rem came to see what was going on, and quickly discovered that the Training Drones had turned on the Paladins! Additionally, there is a column of newly created Battle Droids marching on the Training Base!

Rem’s heart leapt when a half dozen of the other paladin trainees and isnstructors rose above the clouds of smoke to join him in the air. At first they looked angrily at him, and he couldn’t blame them. He had been firing a nonstop weak beam attack directly where anyone might have been- he couldn’t see well enough through the smoke to avoid them. However, they quickly realized that he had been sending a signal, not attacking them.

The Namekian was forced to dispatch two training drones in quick succession with his blade. By the time he turned back, the six newcomers were already under sieges of their own. There were over twenty other training drones zipping about the smoke high above the Tron Training center, and those who had reserves of energy were firing upon the Paladins as they rose. One of the figures, a young man who must have been a trainee, yelled in pained surprise as a beam of energy struck him in the chest and sent him falling from the sky- training smoke.

Rem grimaced, not sure if he was dead, or just so surprised he had been unable to keep up the effort of levitation. Either way, he had bigger problems. The five other paladins quickly set to work taking down the traitorous drones. Two of them pulled out long, shining blades and he instantly recognized them as the type the instructors carried. Two others pulled out the blunted blades like he had, quickly taking off the protective covering so that they were now lethal. The last had no blade that could be seen, but that didn’t stop him.

Before any of the others could make their move, he raised his hands before him and fired off two quick blasts of energy towards the nearest Drone. It just so happened to be the one that had taken down the trainee a few moments previous. He blasted twice, one of them shooting high, the second striking against one of its ‘wings’ causing a minor explosion and the device to begin to spin as it descended from the air. The beam of energy it was still firing whipped all around it as it fell faster and faster, quickly sinking into an impossibly tight spin.

It fell from the sky and was no longer a problem. Rem saw the two instructors zip to nearby drones and slice them out of the sky with single, expert blows. Behind them, one of the trainees attacked a drone, but missed when it dodged its first attack. He yelped as it then slammed its hard, metal body into his face. Rem was forced to wince in sympathetic pain for the guy. His buddy, however, quickly came to the rescue and took down the drone with a jab of his blade straight behind the single eye in the middle of its construction. The Drone sparked, then exploded into pieces that showered towards the ground beneath them.

Rem turned away then, glancing at the long line of Combat Droids that were still marching on the Tron Center. They would have to wait, more and more training drones were finding their way out of the training facility and were rising into the air. Rem, already gripping his own sword tightly between two hands, shot through the air towards the nearest one, jabbing his sword ineffectually against its wing. The Machine turned, nd Rem spun away and to the side as he recognized the tell tale glow of an impending energy attack.

The thing must have nearly expended all its absorbed energy, because it fired a short beam at him that petered out after just a second or two. He dodged it, dropping low out of the sky for a moment before activating his flight ability and shooting upwards and to the side to keep ahead of that beam. Each of his movements, each change in trajectory, brought him a little bit closer to the Drone. He wanted to get in behind it somehow, slice it into pieces if he got the chance.

His eyes caught movement and he was forced to dive towards the ground as another of the drones came hurtling towards his head. He managed to avoid it, then shot straight back upwards. He used his own energy to stop his forward momentum with a whiplashing effort, turning, then heading back the direction he had just come, ascending into the air as he did so.

His blade sliced neatly into the unprotected bottom of the droid, eliciting a series of sparks and a rendng screech of metal upon metal in the instant before it started falling back towards the ground. Rem really hoped everyone on the ground was noticing what was going on, and taking care not to let debris or falling fighters to land on them

Even better would be if they noticed, and then took some damn action. The six of them up here currently were doing alright taking down all the training drones pretty rapidly, but they were losing precious seconds as that line of approaching robots kept getting closer and closer. He didn’t even want to think what was going to happen if the six of them were still up here alone when those robots, which were scores strong, got here and joined the fray. Depending on just how strong the Protectorates Robotic forces were, they might be well and truly screwed!

Rem zipped across the air, closing the distance between himself and another of the drones that was targeting one of the other trainees and cutting it in half before it could make its suicidal run on him. Rem was surprised to realize he recognized the young man. It was Jin.

Jin was one of his friends from the unit he was in. Rem hadn’t had much time to get to know everyone in the unit yet, not with being in the damned rejuvenation tank three times in the last week alone. Jin, however, had quickly gotten to know Rem, and the two had developed a fast friendship. “Looks like some hinky shit is going on!” Rem shouted over the din of the fire, the battle, and the yells and screams all around them.

“Better not drop your sword this time,” Jin shouted back, his always present secret smile spreading into a grin on his face, “Renault’s just over there, and I’d hate for you to get sent back to the rejuvenation tank AGAIN.” Even as he spoke, Jin dodged out of the way of a weak blast of energy from one of the drones, turned, and deflected a thin beam of energy away from himself with the broadside of his sword. Rem moved closer to Jin, the two of them taking up a sort of back to back defensive position. The training drones were going to come to them, that wasn’t even a problem. As long as they had someone watching their back, they shouldn’t get overwhelmed by the weak training devices.

“HA!” Rem shouted, pulsing his energy away from his body and directing it forward to ‘catch’ one of the approaching drones. As it struggled to free itself from his attack wave, Rem shot forward a few feet and sliced it in half before hovering back until he could feel Jins presence nearby once more. “I’m just glad he didn’t take offense at my ‘warning’ and come up here and lay into me without a question.” Rem Remarked back, looking around at the other four fighters until he recognized his Training officer. Sure enough, he was one of the two instructor sword wielding guys. Him and the other man were moving swiftly through the smoke over top of the Tron Center, taking down training drones at a fantastic speed. There had been twenty when Rem had sent his little warning off, with another forty having risen in the mean time. There were less than ten still floating around the area.

“RENAULT!” Rem yelled as loud as he could, and then was forced to repeat himself until he caught the attention of the Trainer. The mans eyes locked onto Rem, and instantly the Namekian felt a bit uncomfortable. That guy really didn’t seem to like him much. Instead of trying to explain, Rem simply brought his sword around and pointed it towards the line of approaching robots. Jins eyebrows furrowed at the motion, but then his eyes followed the tip and further intil he saw what Rem was pointing at.

He hovered closer, getting free of some of the smoke so that his vision was clearer. He studied the scene for a few moments, then grabbed a collar and pulled it closer to his face, looking as if he was speaking into it. After a moment, Rem realized that was exactly what he was doing. Renault had some sort of communications device on his lapel! Thank God! The other instructor, who had wandered a few score yards away snapped his head around towards Renault, then gazed out where he was staring until he too caught sight of the approaching Droids.

“What the hell is even going on here?” Jin asked, he too now looking at the real threat that was coming.

“I haven’t the first clue, but for some reason I really don’t think the Robots are coming here to back us up.” The Namekian responded, lashing out at one of the last Training Drones as it wandered too close to him, taking it out of the fight.

Energy bolts and blasts shot out of the sky around Rem. For a moment he was utterly terrified by the light show, but then he noticed the effect. In a single moment every one of the remaining training drones had been destroyed. Confused as hell, Rem glanced down beneath him- the source of all the energy waves. Rising to meet them were dozens of Paladins! “HAH! Reinforcements finally!” Rem shouted exultantly, moving so that he was beside Jin instead of back to back with him- both of them facing towards the east, towards the cougar plains, and the long column of Battle Droids headed in their direction.

All around them Paladin Instructors and Trainees came together, forming a long line that faces the every approaching apparent enemy force. “Whats going on?” Rem heard Jin ask a man behind him. The man was older, with a golden signet on his chest. Obviously he was an instructor.

“We are forming a battle line, trainee. Someone has seized control of a factory it seems. Reports are that over two weeks delayed output that has been gathering within the factory has all been released, and all of it with bad coding. Someone has been stockpiling all of these robots so they could unleash a single devastating strike at one time.” The mans voice dropped then, as if speaking to himself- Rem, however, was a Namekian and still heard. “Someones ass is going to burn for this fuck up. Got god damned policies in place to keep this shit from happening.”

The old trainer turned towards Jin and Rem then, and gave a half smile. “Stick close to the instructors, follow orders, and for Ganr’s sake, don’t fucking wander off alone. Follow those simple rules and you should be able to survive. These Battle Droids are basic models, without postproduction modifications. Even trainees should be able to hold their own, but don’t underestimate the foes or it could mean your life!” He warned. Rem and Jin nodded together, taking his words very, very seriously. This had all gotten a bit too real to do anything less.

“COMPANY ADVANCE! QUARTER SPEED!” Shouted a man farther down the line, apparently the most senior of the instructors. Rem and Jin automatically began moving at ‘quarter’ speed. That was one of the first things that had been covered in their training, the various speeds and directional orders. As one, the group of instructors and trainees began to advance in their line towards the approaching column of robots. “COMPANY DESCEND! HALF SPEED!” Came the second command.

Immediately, and without stopping forward movement, the troops all began to drop from the sky at a decent rate. It appeared the Paladins didn’t want the students expending all their energy on trying to stay aloft. Smart, probably.

Rem looked across to the robots, and realized they were no longer in a column. Even as he watched many of them sped up and spread out. They spread out in a line that appeared to be about a hundred strong, from Rem’s quick guesstimate. His eyes went left and right, trying to figure out how many Paladins there were. His best guess was that there were about 50 of them, with about 35 being Trainees.

The robots filled out their first line, but even more were coming. Rem actually began to feel nervous as a second, and then third line were quickly formed. That was 300 Battle Droids facing them, and they numbered around 50. The odds were really starting to stack against them. Additionally, as they descended he was no longer able to track the back of the robot lines, and couldn’t even begin to guess how many more were hurrying forward to form even more lines. Just how many robots was one factory able to produce in just a few weeks?

“COMPANY! Prepare ARMS!” Shouted their commander, and as one fifty blades were raised to line along each of the Paladins arms, poking above their shoulders. “EMPOWER!” Came the next command, and auras snapped and flickered to life along the line. “PREPARE FIRE!” Was the next order, and Rem began scanning the line of approaching bots before him, looking for a couple targets. “RAPID FIRE RAPID FIRE!” Came the next shout, and was then drowned out as fifty Paladins began to churn out blasts of energy at a terrible pace.

Rem unleashed three quick blasts, each aimed at a different Robot. Of his three shots only one found its target, the other two either being avoided or deflected away. He fired more, and then more. Each time he unleashed a three round burst, attempting to carve a small path through the enemies directly in front of him. He noticed Jin was doing a similar activity. Being side by side, they were targeting Robots very close to one another. The entire front line of robots before them was down within seconds, and then they were making good progress on laying the second Row low.

“CEASE FIRE CEASE FIRE!” Came the shout from the commander, and then the rest of the instructors. Rem realized he was breathing hard, and sweat was dripping down his face. His heart was beating like a drum in his chest. He knew it wasn’t all fatigue. A lot of it was the adrenaline of combat. However, he had been fighting the drones and now the robots for a good few minutes by this point, and was beginning to feel the strain…

Instructor Power Levels: 50,000-85,000. (Count: 15/15)
Trainee Power Levels: 5,000-45,000 (Count: 35/35)
Rem Power Level: 45,000
Instructor Renault Power Level: 75,000
Jin Power Level: 33,000

Battle Droid Power Levels: 4,500 Each. (Count: 924/1000 Remaining)

Rem was glad for the break, and it was obvious the rest of the trainees were as well. Even a good number of the instructors had flushed faces from their exertions. As Rems eyes scanned the front line of the robots, he figured they had nearly wiped out the entire front line. More had stepped forward, filling the holes, but all through the robot lines there were small spots where they hadn’t been able to fully plug everything just yet.

“Every 3rd man, take two steps back and prepare for Aerial Assault!” The commander shouted. Rem looked to his left and watched as the troops counted themselves off. The instructor beside Jin called out one, Jin called out two…. And Rem realized he was three in the next moment. He called out and took two steps backwards. “Good luck.” He whispered towards Jin, who nodded and mumbled something back at him as he moved away.

Rem was wondering what was going on, what aerial assault, when two instructors broke from the new line and paced down the line, speaking to a few trainees at once, explaining things it seemed. Soon, one was talking to Rem and the two other students near him. “These Battle Droids have specific combat instructions. As we close, the ones further back will begin to leap from over the front lines. They’ll shoot high into the air and attempt to land in our back lines. It will be our job to blow these metal leap frogs out of the sky. If they land, quickly dispatch them. They might be weak, but any kind of enemy force in your backyard is a serious threat.” The instructor explained it all without taking a breath, speaking fast and enunciating clearly. He focused on the faces of the three trainees, ensuring they understood, and then moved on.
There were a total of 16 people in this new line, 4 Instructors and the rest of them Trainees. This was one hell of a way to finish a regular training day, he was beginning to think. He wondered if reinforcements were coming, and then realized they of course had to be. The only real question was how far out they were, and how long they would take to get here. Would any of the people in the training camp be left when they arrived? Would the camp itself be anything more than a smoldering ruin…
Rem had no idea, but figured he would follow orders and do his best to fight off these metal threats. He had faced some serious threats back on Earth, in West City. The entire reason they had formed the Justice League was because of situations just like this. When science, or technology, or magic, or just general high power leveled warriors went off the rails, someone had to be there to stop them. That was what the Justice League did. They stopped the madness. They were the light in the dark…. Or, well, that was the hope of what they could become- if they got strong enough, and survived enough impossible situations just like this one! Rem couldn’t help but wonder if Sai or Kular were facing anything like this so early in their own training schedules…

Then, he had time to wonder no longer. “THEY’RE COMING!” Came a scream. Rem’s thoughts were banished, and he refocused on the battle. Sure enough, at least two lines of battle droids had suddenly burst free from the rest of the gathering formation and were charging straight at the group of Paladins. Their metal legs were pumping hard and fast, quickly closing the distance.

“FRONT LINE! EMPOWER! PREAPRE! FIRE!” Came the commanders voice once more. There was almost no time at all between his commands. Apparently he had been taken by near surprise as well. First one, and then a horde of the Paladins in the front line began to fire off blast style attacks once more. Rems eyes focused on the approaching line of robots, and a small thrill shot through him as he saw robot after robot being struck down. For each that was destroyed, however, another quickly moved up to replace it, closing ranks and filling gaps.

“BACK LINE! HEADS UP! EMPOWER! PREPARE! FIRE FIRE FIRE!” Came the thick, heavy voice of another commander. Rems eyes shot up, and he realized that the aerial assault had begun. There were already a dozen Robots in the air, their bodies rising, cresting, and then descending towards the Paladins as they made their massive flight empowered leaps.

Rem dropped to one knee, slamming his sword blade into the ground so he could raise both hands to the air. He focused on one android, firing off a stream of quick, weak attacks at its body. The first few missed or were deflected, but after a half second a dozen of his little blasts peppered the things body and it began to show damage. Rem increased the power of his attack just a bit, and had to contain a shout of joy as he saw first an arm, and then a leg blasted off the metal monster. A final blast took off its head, and Rem was scanning for another target….

The Namekian blasted a second, and then a third flying robot out of the sky in the next few moments. This was getting intense. As fast as he was destroying them, they were being replaced by others. A quick look down the line saw that many of the faces stretched out to either side of him were straining. Whether they weren’t able to keep up with the constant shifting battle, or they were being overwhelmed by the numbers, or were simply draining their personal energy stores was hard to tell, but a great number of the 15 others were looking like they wouldn’t be able to keep it up.

Rem gazed forward to the line before them, and saw much the same. While the trainees and instructors were able to keep the Androids bogged down by their sheer fire power, they were beginning to show signs of stress, of flagging. Would they all be able to last until this horde of metal monsters was put down? Rem seriously doubted it.

There seemed to be a lull then in the number flying at them. The last few in the air were blasted, and then the boys and girls to either side of him began to take deep, heaving breaths as they were able to rest for a few moments. The front line, Rem saw, was beginning to rest too. The robots weren’t pushing as hard, and the instructors were ordering students to take rest breaks while others picked up the slack of pouring fire down upon the enemies. Smart. Then, things began to change. “What the hell are they doing…” Rem began to ask as he saw Robots seemingly much taller rising around the third rank back. The ones in front began to move once more.
The tall robots leapt towards the line of Paladins. “Oh… Shit…” Rem muttered, instantly bringing his hands forward and beginning to pour fire into the new targets as they leapt over the front rank of paladins once again. They weren’t extra tall Robots at all, he saw. Instead, they apparently had magnetic feet of some sort- it made sense, robots were probably utilized in ship combat, and would be needed on the outside of vessels to either board or repel boarders during fierce combat. What they were doing now, however, was an ingenius shift in tactics.

The new rank of flying robots took casualties as they came on. Rem personally blasted two of them out of the sky before they could land. However, that didn’t stop the ones that were using their magnetic boots to stand atop their partners from suddenly leaping off those shoulders, sending themselves shooting right over the second rank of Paladins specifically set up to stop the aerial ones. “Bad news…” Rem said aloud, glancing back but unable to shift his fire as the aerial assault thickened with even more robots.

“EVERY FOURTH MAN! MOVE TO AND FORM 3rd LINE! TURN TO FACE REARWARD FOES!” Came the shout of the instructor leading the front rank. Rem heard the fighters shouting out their numbers, then racing past. He nodded at Jin as his buddy moved on past, taking a knee just a foot or so behind Rem and beginning to fire off blasts of energy towards the new force of robots that had appeared in their rear.

Rem did some quick math, and didn’t like what he came up with… There were now 27 fighters on the front line, facing the Robot army which stretched 100 wide last time he checked. Moments before they had been facing three to one odds, but now with the requirement for a third line, it was now basically 4 to 1. Considering how drained and pressed the Paladins had already been, this could not bode well. Additionally, there were now 8 fighters in the rear line. The sixteen in the 2nd line, Rem’s, were being pressed hard to keep the leaping android contingent under wraps. Each one that leapt now seemed to have a second bot on its shoulders. That meant that the third line had to face the same number of foes as the second line, but with half the men. Rem could smell the tragedy that would soon strike coming from a mile off.

Still, he stayed where he was and kept up his own personal barrage. He tried to take down both of the bots at once when he could, firing as fast as he could. He unleashed massive amounts of energy as the seconds became minutes. He had no idea how many of the robots they had managed to take down, but had a feeling it wasn’t enough.

“ALL LINES! BEGIN QUARTER SPEED RETREAT! CONTINUOUS FIRE!” Came the shout from before the Namekian, the commander once more. Rem took a moment to look at the front of the Robot line and was surprised at how close it had gotten. The loss of firepower from those 8 additional fighters had apparently strained the front harder than Rem had thought. His eyes scanned, and he saw none of the instructors were allowing any of the trainees to take momentary breaks anymore. Everyone was on full auto, and some of the boys looked ready to fall over at any second. “Shiiiit.” Rem muttered, rising to his feet and missing the next android pair completely. He wasn’t the only one that let some through. All across the line muttered curses rose as androids began to drop into their midst.

Then it came. The first scream of pain and death. Rems eyes shot towards the side. A young trainee fell as a red, dripping metal arm pulled free of his chest. Rem, shooting skyward with both hands, took a moment to power a bit more energy, then fire off a pair of eye beams that struck that particular robot in the head, exploding it. It fell dead.

Beside Rem, Jin now walked forward where Rem walked slowly backwards. The Robots before them were still getting closer. Apparently so were the ones behind them, thus why jins line was being forced back into the second line. “I think we’re in trouble here, man.” Jin said, panting heavily as he unleashed a barrage of energy at a terrible rate- aiming at seemingly a dozen different places Rem couldn’t see behind him.

“No…” Rem panted, “Fucking Kidding.” The Namekians arms were tired. He dropped them for a moment, powering energy into his head and blasting two bots out of the sky in the space of three seconds with well placed eye beams. He sucked in air, transformed it with his ki, and shot a huge blast of energy into the air to completely incinerate two more bots before they could land.

Another scream, this one from behind and to the left. One of the fighters on Jin’s line. Almost before it had fell silent another one directly to Rem’s left rose. Without pause Rem turned, drew his blade, and decapitated an android that had killed the man beside him. He turned his gaze back to the skies, firing, and firing, and FIRING!

“DRAW SWORDS! PREPARE FOR CLOSE IN COMBAT!” Came the shout of the commander. The entire line in front of Rem drew their blades. Jin drew his. Rem already had his out, and stabbed it through a falling robot that he hadn’t had time to deal with on its way down. The loss of the man beside him was beginning to really hurt.

Rem raised his free hand again, blasting robot after robot as he looked around. The bots were all around them. Even Jin was stabbing and slashing between his blasts of energy now. The front row was completely swamped. Even as Rem was in wonder how none of them had fallen to the robots yet, he saw a man grabbed by a fallen, but not destroyed robot, and tripped. Within a half second another bot had leapt forward, slamming its metal foot onto his throat and instantly snapping the life from him. Another trainee swiped at the bots, but was awkward. His arm was grabbed and he was PULLED into the robotic formation. Blood geysered into the air a moment later as Rem lost sight of the man. His screams were short lived. He had been churned like a blender as soon as he disappeared into the bots. “Fuck fuck fuck.” Rem muttered. He slashed left, looked up, blasted a robot, then was forced to fire on an android directly to his left with eye beams. Too many foes!

“HALF SPEED RETREAT!” The commander shouted, and instantly everyone was picking up their feet and moving faster. The retreat was in serious danger of becoming a rout.

“Need some help, or this retreats going to fucking turn into a backwards charge into a hundred god damn robots.” Jin managed to say between breaths to Rem. The Namekian managed to turn his head far enough to see the young man was right.

He looked around, and felt that the aerial assault was the weakest of the three fronts at the moment, and turned. Without a word to anyone he SHOT out of formation like a bolt of lightning. If he had taken another second to consider how it might have looked, Rem probably wouldn’t have done it, but he hadn’t, and he had.

He closed the distance between himself and the hundred or so Robots that had gotten behind the Paladins. His sword in his right hand, his left charging up a powerful energy attack, he laid into them. He decapitated the first one he saw, spun, then whipped his blade around fast and strong enough to slice down two more bots in his next movement. His energy charged, he leapt into the air and shot out three quick bolts of energy spaced out over the grouped up robots. Each explosion detonated amidst a compact group, destroying multiple bots. Rem dispatched two more nearest bots with his blade, then stopped, charged once more, and swung his vision from left to right across the line of robots. A dozen were sliced in half by his powerful beams of energy.

Then, however, Rem was done. That show of energy had taken up a LOT of his reserves. He leapt backwards, right in beside Jin as the man continued to walk fast in the way Rem had just come.

“Nice.” Jin said, “Pretty sure you nearly got blasted by Renault tho. You didn’t hear him screaming at you to stop running?”

Rem panted, tried to speak, but was unable to and simply shook his head as he stabbed another robot that came nearby with less than peak effort. He tried to slash at anothers head, but it blocked the weak stroke with an arm, then came in with the other one towards the Nameks throat. Rem eviscerated its head with a last second eye beam that physically hurt, his energy reserves were so low.

There were grunts and screams all across the line by that point. Even as Rem watched two trainees were dragged down and destroyed by the dwindling horde. The question had become which would last longer, the Robotics or the Paladins. Both forces were losing a lot of the numbers. The robots, however, had been losing more before they had closed with the Paladins. Now the Paladins were losing men at a rapid rate. The Paladins didn’t HAVE the numbers to keep losing people this fast, however. Something had to change. Someone HAD to have a card up their sleeve. Someone had to save them.

The Namekian had no delusions that he could manage it. Between the fight up to this point and the sheer expenditure of a few moments previous, he was nearly tapped out. He was relying on weakening arms and an unsteady blade to keep the robots off himself. As he gazed around, he saw that was the truth for most of the Paladins. Fewer and fewer blasts were being unleashed as the seconds passed, and more of them were batting away robot arms with their swords or arms.

The lines were compressed. The front line had backed into the second line, and the third had done the same. It was essentially just a single, ragged line of warriors firing forward, backward, or into the air.

“BREAK OUT ON MY MARK! HEAD FOR THE ROOF OF THE TRON CENTER!” Shouted the commander, instantly bringing everyone to peak awareness. This was it then. They were unable to keep the robots off them any longer, and were going to have to reposition their entire force if they wanted a chance to pull something off to continue their survival. This might work…

“THREE! TWO! ONE! MARK!” Roared the commander. In the next instant 10, and then 15 fighters blasted into the air. Swords and ki attacks cleaved through the aerial robots in an instant, all of their attention focused on the single direction they were going to go now, up. Rem and Jin leapt into the sky together, their ki bursting behind them in a contrail as they moved from the enclosing circle of robots.

Rem looked down a moment later, and wished he hadn’t. The first sight he saw was one young trainee shooting into the sky, looking surprised, and then instantly falling back to the ground as his aura refused to fully pop into existence. He had used too much energy in the fight, couldn’t actually manage to fly. Another trainee stabbed and slashed with two blades, striking all around him, his face serene and determined as he attempted to hold off the mighty horde all on his own. The Namekians scouter showed that this one too would be unable to fly, he had been smart enough to realize it, however, and had decided to go down fighting.

More than anything at that moment, Rem wanted to fly back down and rescue his fellow trainees. Those two weren’t the only ones. One instructor was hit in the side by a flying robot and sent careening into the ground, quickly overwhelmed by a dozen robots that flung themselves onto him. Another student was attempting to fly with everything he had, but robots held him by both legs. An instant later another robot leapt onto onto his back and slammed his fist right through the young mans spine, out the front of his belly and leaving a hellish image in Rem’s mind.

Altogether, eight Paladins failed to make the breakout attempt successfully, cutting their already depleted numbers even more. It took only a few seconds for the staggered force to begin touching down on the roof of the training complex. It was still burning, and large black swaths of smoke rose around them. “Everyone take a minute.” One of the instructors said, walking to each trainee that arrived and placing his hand on their shoulder. Encouraging them a bit.

Beneath, the robots were already coming for them.

“Got to be glad the factory only produced the base model.” Jin said from a seated position beside Rem, who stood hunched over, elbows on his knees. “They don’t have weaponry or flight controls yet. If they had either of those, we’d be in serious fucked territory.”

Rem nodded, horrified to think of what this force would have done to the Paladin Training base if they had attacked fully fleshed out. The Namekian had no doubt that the entire force of students and teachers would have been massacred in minutes.

“FIRE!” Roared the commander as the Robots closed the last distance to the building, and began to climb, leap, and scale it. Their respite had been short, but necessary. Their repositioning had allowed them to once more turn all their power in a single direction again, to fully combine their power against the advancing horde.

Rem stood in the Paladin line, unleashing his power once more. Everyone was tired, everyone was low on energy. No one could quit. Whatever this was, why ever the robots were attacking the Paladins didn’t matter. They had to overcome and survive the struggle. It was all that mattered. To either side of him, Jin and Renault rained energy bolts down upon the robots. Rem noticed something however. “They’re trying to flank us!” He shouted, pointing to the edge of the robot line creeping around the side of the building to their left, then to the right side which was doing the same thing.

“Keep attacking!” Renault shouted back, then moved away from the front line. He grabbed two instructors and four trainees out of the line, taking them to either side of the building. He positioned them so they could rain down attacks as the robots clambered up the sides. He was back a minute later, and not a moment too soon. The robots were pushing past the halfway point of the massive structure, using the bodies of their fallen as cover to push even higher. The robots were engaging their magnetics so even when they died, they didn’t fall. Simply hung in place as cover for the ones below them still.

Rem’s scouter began to bleep, and he looked up. Far, far in the distance and coming closer was a large power signature. “INSTRUCTOR!” Rem shouted, pointing out yet another threat for the man. Renault looked annoyed at the interruption of his attacks, but gazed out across the sky towards where Rem was pointing. Renault had no scouter. “Incoming Power Level, 40,000 Reading.” He said.

Renault nodded, but didn’t do anything about it just yet. It was still a ways away, and the robots were drawing ever closer… The Paladin line unleashed blast after blast. Some of the trainees began to slow, simply tapped out from the days expenditure. Rem himself was quickly reaching that point as well. Beside him, Jin actually looked pale from his fatigue.

Rem grimaced. He could see that the robot lines were no longer seemingly infinite… but the question became just how much more the Paladins could give…

Jin Power Level: 6,500

Battle Droid Power Levels: 4,500 Each. (Count: 139/1000 Remaining)
Criminal Power Level: 40,000

The robotic horde began to slow. Finally, things were beginning to look like they might survive! That was when the new being arrived on the scene. Rem, and apparently Renault, had assumed it was a Paladin coming in from somewhere to assist them. A fresh warrior at that point really could have made a huge difference for them.

Well, the warrior was fresh, and he did make a difference. His first blast of energy slammed down amidst a trio of Paladins. Two of them died instantly while a third was burned and sent hurtling off the roof of the Tron Training facility. “NO!” Rem shouted, watching the young man, so weakened by energy loss he couldn’t even hope to fly, fall to his death.

Rems eyes blazed as he looked into the air, finally looking at the new comer. He was… surprised. “I know him.” Rem whispered, his voice subdued with confusion.

“What?” Renault asked, looking daggers at Rem. “Who is he?” Jin kept firing at the androids, one of a very few number of paladins still doing so amidst the confusion and chaos of the moment.

“He’s… dead. I killed him…” Rem whispered. In reality, he had thought the man dead three times previously, each time showing up on different worlds to sew chaos and destruction, each time being defeated by Rem, presumably killed… Each time showing up somewhere else a few months later.

“He’s… a criminal. Former Paladin, some kind of mercenary for some… company.” Rem couldn’t recall what it was at the moment. “Wanted for murders.”

“Not for long. With me, Namek.” Renault said, throwing himself into the air without further hesitation.

Rem hesitated, exhaustion keeping him from making quick decisions. Finally, he lifted off. He drew his sword once more as he did so. Renault had already closed with the man, blasting away with one hand and chopping with his blade in the other. The criminal dodged all of his attacks, then descended upon Renault with speed- burying his fist into the man’s gut. Renault gasped, his hands flexing in pain and shock and dropping the sword back towards the building below. As Rem flew up, he intercepted it, grabbed it with his free hand, and charged ahead.

In the instant before the criminal killed Renault, Rem appeared to his right. He stabbed out with his left, then sliced with the right. The first blade was easily deflected by a quickly upraised and gauntlet protected arm. The second was dodged at the last second as the criminal ducked beneath it.

However, that moment of surprise at the second sword was all the time Renault needed to disengage himself, then slam his shoulder into the man’s exposed torso. The two of them ascended higher into the air, Renault raining most ineffective blows against the man as they went. Rem sighed, then flew on- trying to catch up. He was far too weak for this shit, his energy depleted way too much.

Beneath him, Rem heard a scream of pain and knew the Robots had started coming over the walls. He couldn’t help any of those boys at the moment, however. If he and Renault didn’t keep this murderer busy until the robots were dealt with, then everything would fall to pieces.

Renault shot past Rem, face leaving a trail of blood through the air. He had caught a powerful elbow, then a hammerblow straight into the face it seemed. Rem closed with the murderer, chopping, slicing, and stabbing yet again. This time, the man was ready and dodged or blocked all of the strikes Rem was willing to throw. All too soon he began to feel his arms tighten and grow heavy, even after just a few blows. He was too weak for this shit… There was no way he could fight the man like this. Not effectively.

Renault rejoined him a moment later. He yipped at the Namekian from below, causing Rem to drop the mans sword. He swung past a half second later, slicing at the murderer from all angles. Rem worked his way around to the side and began to attack as well. Together, they might be able to just…

The murderer, the assassin, the domestic terrorist brought both arms out to either side, quick charged energy, and blasted both Rem and Renault away from him in a single, flashy attack.

Pain lanced through Rem and he descended down, down….

He slammed back onto the top of the building and groaned in pain. He tried to reach for his sword, but it was missing- knocked out of his hand at some point. He looked around, expecting to see Robots on all sides, pressing against the ever tightening and decreasing paladin formation.

That wasn’t the case, however. The Paladins were on the edge of the roof still, blasting down. Their shots were much slower and carefully aimed than before, and Rem realized they were finishing off the last of the robots. They… were in the process of winning!

Jin rushed over to Rem and rolled him onto his back. “You alright buddy?” he asked.

“Nope… ill live though, maybe…” Rem replied. “Whats going on? I think I blacked out during the fall…”

“The instructors are fighting the new bastard. We’re pretty sure he reprogrammed the factory on us.”

“We gonna win?” Rem asked, groaning as he tried to sit up.

“Dudes fighting hard… but he’s outmatched by that many of the instructors. He’s going to die for his sins. The rest of us are just taking down the few surviving bots still attempting to come up the sides. I think it’s mostly done for now.” Jin explained.

“Well… Fucking awesome.” Rem muttered, then fell back.
