Mira slowly made his way along the streets of Metro West. There was still an aching in his muscles after his recovery upon entering his world, but nothing lasting. Instead, his attention was focused on trying to move forward. Without his companion, he had no spells to transport him through time and space freely, something he had come to take for granted. While he was certainly faster than the average being, he was by no means the sort to travel great distances without assistance. It was by luck that the truck drive had found him, and it was for his assistance that Mira vowed not to destroy him or this city he had deposited him at. Given it wasn't like Mira cared for pointless destruction, only that which would further his own power, but he'd make it a point not to tear the city apart in his search for it. Still, here he was, alone in a world he was unfamiliar with. It had never crossed his mind before how often he required guidance on his path for power. Sure, he was by no means an idiot and could grasp things fairly well, but he had always left the higher thinking to others, to... her... Shaking his head, Mira cleared his thoughts of his companion, finding it unnecessary to keep his thoughts on someone who was no longer with him. As much a help she had been in his growth, and very existence for that matter, she was no longer there and nothing could be done about that. It was during his rapid head motions that his eyes caught hold of something. Pausing, he stopped before a piece of paper posted against the corner of a building. "Bounty." Mira muttered at the first word printed, recognizing some level of worth in it. Not the monetary worth, as he had generally seen little purpose in money. No, it was the fact that if somebody was putting a bounty out on somebody, it meant that the target was stronger than client was capable of dealing with personally. Mira did not know much about this world, only that it shared certain similarities to his own. What really mattered was getting a feel for the warriors in this world. Even if this opponent wasn't the most powerful or dangerous around, it would give him some baring on what he may come to fight some day. Tearing the posting from the building, he inspected it closer, a brow lifting curiously as he read over the information. Not a regular warrior, but a 'monster' apparently, this still held his attention. They were quick, a user of ki, and could phase through shadows apparently. He'd heard of such unusual techniques as shadow shifting before, although it was a rare gift. What was really important was that ki was in fact relevant enough in this world that whoever posted the bounty felt it necessary to outline this creature used it. Casting a glance to the sun, Mira's grip on the paper tightened as he marched off. The sun would soon be setting, meaning he had to quickly find wherever this creature was most likely to attack and get there. He'd rather be waiting for the monster than get ambushed by it. With one more look at the paper, Mira smirked. "Feel honored, Peetzae, you shall be my first opponent in this new world." WC: 565 |

Sunset passed quickly and soon the darkness of night had enveloped the city. Despite the late hours, the fact that it was a metropolis should have meant a thriving night life would still exist, but it appeared the fear of Peetzae had many citizens hiding indoors, lest they become the monster's next victim. Perhaps the only individual still out at this hour was Mira, hiding in the shadows of an alley himself. He was certain that his opponent would be more than capable of seeing him, but he wasn't about to make this an easy fight. Of course, he still had to find the night time menace. Staring out into the open street, with only the occasional flicker of the street lights as a reminder that the city wasn't abandoned. Tapping a finger against his bicep, Mira furrowed his brow. He was hoping that with nobody else out at this hour, the beast would have no choice but to attack him. Perhaps it could sense his power and was avoiding him, but where else would the monster go? The bounty gave no indication of its intentions besides mindless murder it would seem, so he had no way of setting up any proper bait. Stepping out of the alleyway, Mira looked about the street a little more curiously. There really was no indication that there was any sort of danger present in the city. Of course, it was a large city after all, so he simply may have been in the wrong area. But if there really was a creature capable of using ki, he should have been able to sense it. Sighing, Mira started walking away from the scene, deciding that there was better potential to test himself elsewhere. It was too ambitious of him to believe that his first attempt at finding a proper opponent would succeed. He'd have to truly put in more effort if he was to- "KYAAAAAAH!" With the sudden battle cry, Mira was alerted to a presence that was fast approaching him. Turning back to the alley he had been hiding in, a black mass shot out at him, quickly closing in on him. Jumping off to the side, he was narrowly able to avoid the entity, letting it land underneath one of the street lights. Now illuminated, the artificial demon was able to see the monster that was Peetzae. In all honesty, it was hard to call it a full out monster, but he could grasp why regular beings might be scared of it. It wasn't any taller than an average humanoid, but its form was like some sort of simian frog that was armed with claws and sharp fangs. Its body was covered in black scales that helped it blend into the shadows well. Glaring at Mira with furious red eyes, Peetzae hissed menacingly before swinging an arm forward, sending a ball of ki at him. Another side step and Mira was able to avoid the attack, but it had distracted him well enough for the surprisingly quick creature to rush forth, swinging its arm again, this time using its claws to dig into Mira's arm, sending a spray of blood into the air. Grimacing, Mira performed a back flip, using the motion to gain some distance, but also bring his foot into the monster's jaw, sending it tumbling backwards. The contact brought a smirk to Mira's lips, sneering at the beast as it hissed and growled in anger. Then, with some form of sinister smile of its own, Peetzae fell back, out of the light of the street light, and actually sank into the shadows. Despite having read it in the bounty, seeing the actual act was somewhat astonishing... and distracting once more. Before he knew it, Mira was struck in the back with Peetzae's claws, nearly knocking him over as the creature gave a howl of triumph. As bestial as it appeared, it seemed smart enough to plan out its moves and mock its opponent. Angered by the cheap attack, Mira pivoted around on his heel, his fist clenched to deliver a powerful strike to the creature's jaw yet again... ... but it was already gone. He caught just a glimpse of its eyes peering out of the ground where it should have been standing. As frustrating as it was, Mira knew that based on its attack patterns so far, it had to be going for the back again, and immediately swung his arm back around to strike it! And yet again, he hit nothing. Surprisingly enough, Peetzae did not appear behind him. Before he could ponder any further where the monster went, he felt a burning sensation against the back of his head, the searing heat of a ki blast. Stumbling forward, Mira looked back once more expecting to see Peetzae, but only caught a glimpse of its red eyes in the dark... several stories up. Apparently it had shifted out of the shadows on one of the buildings, then used its claws to anchor itself in place. Feeling his anger rising further, Mira rushed over to the building then propelled himself into the air with a mighty jump, shifting his body weight so his legs would swing out in front of him in a kick. Of course, the monster shifted into the shadows once more, avoiding the kick all together, forcing Mira to jump off the wall instead. As he began his descent back to the ground, he could see the Peetzae rising out of the shadows beneath him. The creature was surprisingly smart indeed, drawing him out into the air where he couldn't fly. With its jaws gaping wide open and claws splayed out, it was far more ready for close combat than he was at this moment. Yet despite the imminent collision, Mira couldn't help but smirk. The creature may have been smart, but it was also cocky. As it lunged at his seemingly defenseless form, Mira gathered ki to his eyes, smirking as a look of realization seemed to hit the Peetzae's face. Having fallen into a trap as well, it had gotten too into the physical hunt that it was too late to attack with its own ki. Mere feet between them, Mira fired an Eye Beam at the creature, sending it reeling backwards. Landing on its back, the Peetzae floundered on the ground for a moment, screeching as it tried to scramble back onto its feet. By the time it succeeded, Mira had already landed on the street once more, gathering more ki to his eyes. The Peetzae could sense that another attack was coming its way and started shifting into the shadows to escape. Sensing that the shadows were the biggest problem, Mira didn't direct his next Eye Beam at the Peetzae itself. Rather, he turned his attention to one of the street lights and shot it. The action may have been counter-intuitive, cutting off a source of light that would give the Peetzae more maneuverability, but in the instant that the ki blew it up, there was a flash of light that eradicated all shadows in the area, including the ones the Peetzae was sinking into. With the sudden disruption of shadows for it to shift through, whatever sort of portal it was using to transport all about had been cut off abruptly. Seeing that its limbs had already reached the other end of the shadows, this ended up dismembering the creature all together. With the sudden rush of pain the creature experienced, it had no ability to focus on its shadow shifting once the light disappeared. Instead, it just flailed about, crying out in pain as the suffering it was undergoing overwhelmed its rational thought. The seen would bring some level of mercy to others, but Mira could only frown as he slowly approached his defeated opponent, staring at its pitiful form. "I was hoping for a true warrior. Someone to exchange blows with truly and properly. Unfortunately, all I got was you. A sniveling beast that resorts to hit-and-run tactics only. I can commend you for your tactics, but your inability to fight me head on was upsetting to say the least." The Peetzae could have cared less about Mira's speech about warriors and true strength in battle, as it could only despair over its missing limbs. It took enjoyment Mira had from scolding it over its tactics out of the moment. Sighing, Mira inhaled deeply, then fired another Eye Beam, aiming for the dead center of the creature's skull. With its current condition and the additional freedom to charge the attack, the ki attack left the Peetzae lifeless. Grabbing the back of the Peetzae's neck, Mira began dragging its corpse through the streets, heading to the nearest official's office to turn it in for the bounty. The monster had been been surprisingly intelligent, which matched well with its speed and abilities enough that it had indeed left a mark on his body. But this was not the sort of fight he wanted. He did not want it to be a battle between man and beast, but a brawl between two warriors giving their all. Perhaps his next opponent would be someone who could help ignite the flames of battle he sought. WC: 1542 TWC: 2107 |
