Telepathic Link, Combat Rune

Yan looked down at his phone once more before he turned the corner of another Damaskian street. He wasn't bad at directions but he'd never been in this part of town before. Damaskia was a pretty vast planet and he'd spent most of his time on it in the hustle bustle part of the big cities. He'd made a number of trips to residential areas but he hardly remembered them as there tended to be a rush to get behind closed doors and out of clothes. This trip had taken him in a few odd directions as well, mostly on business. As almost a joke he wore the official cloak of the Shadowguard, and he quite wondered how the younger Damaskian soldier would take it.

He turned one more corner and found the house numbers he was looking for. He could also feel the young girl's energy. Tomoko...well, she had said she'd find him. Kaiya, now Kaiya was a different story. It felt like a long time since he'd seen her on Grace. He'd since bopped around to Kanassa, played with a few ball busters, and further surveyed Grace herself, the planet and the god. He wondered vaguely if the planet was still of interest to the girl but that was one of the reasons he was on Damaskia wasn't it? Grace was a pretty little secret, one they hoped would stay one. Whether Tomoko had other ideas was still up to question and yet the Commander of Defense was still no where to be found, not even in the high security files he'd slipped into with his new Shadowguard presence. He didn't think Kaiya would say anything, her own presence in the military much quieter but one never really knew. That was his purpose on Damaskia but it wasn't his purpose for the visit. No, he just wanted to see the soup muffin girl, business all aside.

He knocked on the door to a tune and waited. He found himself a little anxious. What if he wasn't really welcome? It was hardly a question but the mind did funny things when forced to wait.

She hadn’t been expecting visitors, so the knock got her attention. There was an internal struggle between caution and excitement as she leaned out into the hall and eyed the door.
There was a little window right up close, and she crept out a bit more, but all she got was an angle of a cement porch. Which was a bit of a shame, really. A house like this could have done better with a little touch of countryside in it.
She’d tried a little wind-chime, but that only annoyed the neighbors. So she added a second. They hung a few inches from Yan’s head, stationary at the moment but sure to fill the air with soft, obnoxious tinkling at the slightest breeze.
“I’ll be there in a moment! Would you be armed or unarmed?” She called.

She wasn’t expecting a satisfactory answer, already at the door and letting light flood in. She’d done pretty well at dusting the place, but the air outside was still fresher. A little more vibrant.
When she’d arrived, it felt abandoned. Anyone might have been in and out, but certainly not lived in. With all that space to travel, why would they? It was just a way to settle in and be familiar for a bit.
It was fitting that her first visitor was known to shake up the quiet. She smiled big.

“Yan!” A slight tilt of her head. There was a cloak, and that was really familiar, wasn’t it? She’d seen it quite a bit.
“I don’t remember handing out directions. Was it a pain to find?” Or did the cloak help? That would be terribly rude to say, though. She hadn’t made her home any big secret.
But it was hard to imagine someone so blunt and with such bright red hair with a group that actually had shadow in the name.

Yan heard Kaiya’s voice and he immediately grinned, wider still at the actual content of her words. He had to stop himself from answering, preferring to leave it a surprise more than offer an immediately witty retort. One opportunity lost, there would be many more. He glanced up at the windchimes and waited quite patiently until the door stumbled open. He matched her smile easily.

”Kaiya~” he lets out cheerfully, stepping forward first and giving her a big hug. He lifted her up and spun her around once before setting her back down with ease. He had noticed the tilt of her head though and wasn’t surprised by her next lines. They turned his smile a little mischievous as if daring her to imagine how he’d figured it. There were more than a few ways, including probably the phone book, but he liked to make the girl’s mind wander. It always went to the most interesting of places. Still, it really had been easy to find. There was probably good reason she should ask before hand if one was armed~

”Now, I know what you’re thinking,” he says pulling away. He tucked his hands behind his head and easily lifted the hood up and over his head down past his eyes. ”But there is a hood!” He grins again, knowing the hair was likely not the only thing that threw her off the idea but it was a start.

She made room in the doorway, nudging it shut with her shoulder after he’d made his way in. It was a good sized home, but the living room was sparsely decorated. She’d had plenty taken out, leaving a very modern looking grey sofa sitting atop a matching rug.
Much of the house had been salvaged for her ship, and she didn’t mind swapping out some furniture mart replacements.
Still, she hoped it was comfortable and offered him a seat by way of a nod and point.

“Make yourself comfortable, plenty of room. Few things to snack on, too, but nothing extensive. Food tends to go bad after a couple of years. Damaskian cuisine is also pretty lacking.” She grinned awkwardly. If you were only willing to shop at the local convenience store, which she was, this was perfectly truthful. As for the expiration date, she’d heard about an Earth food that never went bad but everything left in the pantry had been way past the expiration date.
It might not be fatal to eat, but one can had opened to a dried and brown lump. At one point it was green beans.

Of course, being Yan, he did not confirm or deny his expert tracking methods. It was a fun little game, because for the life of her she couldn’t guess what he would have used. Just a simple look up was easy, but he also seemed to like just searching out trouble. Or at least more stimulating activities, and the equivalent of a google white pages search was not that.

Her smile remained when the hood came up.
“Oh, that definitely helps. Otherwise, everyone would notice the M&M stalking them. And what about a housewarming gift? I’ve heard about some sort of law that makes it mandatory.” She said, looking perfectly innocent.

Yan followed her inside and did his best not to turn his nose up at the decor. It was such a waste! Still, he recognized quite easily that the girl probably very rarely stayed home. At the thought she mentioned food and he didn’t openly make a face of disgust at that idea. He did not even want to step in the kitchen if it was filled with two year old food. Damaskian’s had their own versions of SPAM that could last ages but he really didn’t expect the girl of soup muffins to have bought those kinds of things. He couldn’t imagine Tomoko buying anything at all. There was the mysterious brother, but he still knew very little about him and that seemed right.

As she called him an M&M he pouted then rustled her own brown locks stubbornly. ”I am great at blending in I’ll have you know~” he says keeping a jostled tone but he was already grinning again.

He tugged the hood off again and plopped himself on the couch, clearing off anything on the basically empty table. ”For you, my dear,” he says in question of a gift. He sets a single capsule in the middle of the table and then clicks it open. It poofed and with the poof came a rush of steam as the table was suddenly filled with freshly cooked foods of all types.

”I thought you might be going hungry,” he says, shifting himself down the seat and patting the place besides him. ”Hasn’t your sister shown up yet? I’d think she’d want this place more suitable for her queenly ways,” he asks, keeping a casual tone. He probably knew more about what Tomoko was doing then Kaiya, but that wasn’t anything new or surprising, even with their apparent falling out.

“By blending in, do you mean actual stealth or they’ve been knocked out before they can identify anything but the color?” She enjoyed a little teasing.
She took a seat on the floor. Not uncomfortable with the idea of sharing, but as Yan took a seat he’d figure out why. It was rather firm.
Of course she was only joking, but the gift is enough to get her excited. What did he bring? There is a moment of recognition at the capsule, but no expectation for the contents. It would turn out to be the best surprise of her week. What a spread! There is plenty to take away the reminder of the dull and rigid menu.

“Oh! It’s got so much. This is definitely top notch. That might mean I make it mandatory for you to visit more often.” She pauses to get a slice of pizza.
“Much better than what I’ve been eating here. This was supposed to be a little stopover, but I got a little too comfortable. Plenty of time to shop, but not a lot to really find here that would mimic something yummy. I mean you can put gravy on canned ham, it’s still going to be canned ham.”

With that, she joined him on the couch. Firmness be damned, it was easier to get to the table like this. And yes, she liked the company.
“I haven’t seen her yet. I’ve heard a little bit of chatter that she is around, but I thought I’d get a little cleared up here instead of following after. Besides, I don’t think the current décor would suite her. I have to admit I borrowed a bit of it to take onboard. I think I should have replaced it with better stuff, this is close enough to ply wood as it is.”

Yep, even the couch was crappy. This room was an utter failure. He was quite used to the warmth of the girl’s ship so perhaps he was a bit spoiled. As she said it was only meant to be a stop over, but to him if it was a common stopover it should be a bit better maintained. Home was likely on her ship, but this could easily be a much better vacation spot!

He was pleased though at her reaction, expecting as much and shaking his head a little at the thought of canned hams. Canned food was pretty amazing. It was on that list of like, lasting stuff amazing, but actual taste was always a price for that. ”There’s a few areas you can hunt, way out in the nowhere lands. Then if you’ve got a pretty penny, the richer districts have some nice stuff,” he says with a small shrug. Damaskia wasn’t a horrible place for the palette, as he’d told a certain God of Destruction, but as he told him specifically, take advantage of the meats roaming about or take directly from the rich people.

As she joined him on the couch, he took a small fruit that was somewhat like an apple and bite in. She explained about Tomoko and he shrugged once more. ”She told me she was coming ‘home,’ but I suppose for Tomoko that means something quite different,” he says thoughtfully. ”You should definitely find replacement stuff! Home away from home! Come on now~” he says giving her a nudge.

He lifted a canned soda and offered it to her before taking one for himself. ”Cheers, love. To reunions or something~”

She was sure Tomoko wouldn’t mind a penny or two missing, especially if in the end what she got was better than she’d had. This would be a way to get out and experience more of Damaskia, anyway. There were nicer furnishings and she knew it, but her reluctance to leave a safety circle left her hobbled.

“I think I can spare a few of something shiny. Something like a big double recliner would be nice, and Tomoko should like a wall sized TV…” She spoke mostly to herself, and smiled.
She took the soda eagerly, popping the top and taking a big swig. To reunions, and new starts.
