[combat rune // champ 1] The mindless chatter of hundreds of people were a soft hum in the back of Vashs head as he strolled down the halls of the Satan City mall. He could see his socks through the holes in his boots, and had decided to venture out into the masses in search of a new pair. Normally he would have just sent his delivery bot out, but he had some spare time on his hands and didn't often spend a lot of time mingling with the local inhabitants. He figured it would be a good experience for him. After about an hour of striking out in the various shoe departments, unable to find the "perfect" pair of boots, his stomach began to rumble. He could smell the tasty scents of the food court from around the corner. After he picked up a churro, he went to go find a seat so he could sit down and actually enjoy the treat, instead of gulping it down in two bites like he usually did. And that's when he saw him. "You!" Vash yelled and pointed at a tuft of red hair sitting down at a table. He recognized that particular mop, it was unmistakable. He had only met Yan once or twice, and he was there in that debacle on Damaskia. 217 |

Yan was hitting a number of food places on Earth apparently. And alone. Where the hell was Juch? Maybe he’d lost him in the clothing department. The man did love his layers. It was a mystery to be solved in a higher level of play than this. But he did like his ramen, and this outlet did have a nice ramen shop. He sat down peaceably to eat and think over his strange stay on Earth when-- “You!” Yan blinked and looked up at the tall, still standing demon lord. He pointed to himself innocently with an expression that obviously read “Me?” With his free hand he slid his ramen slightly over to the side in case the man should throw a tantrum and the bowl would end up flying. Hot ramen in the lap was not a fun experience he wanted to have for the day. This man, Vash was it? He had not gotten his name the last time, he’d been in a strange mood of reminiscence in the astral realm, but he knew a bit about him now. He’d gotten a lot of information about all the “shadowguard” at the event on Damaskia. It was interesting how many were less than active members, Vash included. The demon’s call had brought a strange party, but that was to be expected. ”I’m sorry, who are you?” he asks, still feigning innocence. He truthfully had no reason to remember the man. 241 / 241 |

Vashs face turned red, matching the shade of his jacket when the ginger spoke up. "I'm sorry, who are you?" He had said after sliding a bowl of ramen safely out of the way. The arrogance! I should erase his existence from the history books!!! Vash was freaking out inside his own head. Does he not realize who he is talking to?!? And then, he calmed down, realizing the foolishness of his internal outburst, if there could be such a thing. Vash quickly remembered that he and this red headed person really weren't that well acquainted. Aside from some ramblings and musings in the astral realm and a very brief meeting between the two during that shit storm on Damaskia, the two were pretty much strangers. Vash did remember from their astral realm encounter, however, how diplomatic and level headed... what was his name... Yan? Displayed himself. Which was a huge contrast from the sorts of people Vash was normally associated with. There were people all around, and despite his reputation, Vash didn't really want to attract too much attention. "Vash..." He grunted through gritted teeth, trying to maintain his composure. "You're Yan, right? We've met before... Fancy seeing you here... what have you been up to?" Vash forced a smile, deciding to try a friendly approach this time around. 224//441 |

Yan had trouble keeping a straight face as Vash’s turned red. He managed though, his expression remaining curious and good natured. He even tilted his head a little. He really wanted to laugh but no, the bigger entertainment would come later. He had made an impression on this man, apparently. He’d do better to keep it, at least for now. He seemed to calm and Yan tilted his head in the other direction, seeming a bit confused now for the pause, like, apparently he didn’t know who he was? He gave his name and Yan mouthed a silent “oh,” but still looked a little confused. He took a moment then moved his ramen back in front of him. ”That’s right, I remember, the Crimson Typhoon,” he says, and gestures him to sit across from him. Vash had never given him his name in the astral realm, certainly not any nicknames, but if he seemed the sly type. If he was at that weird shadowguard meeting, he was probably shadowguard, and that left him open to a number of intelligences. It had also seemed before on that fake Toffit he had at least some understanding of demon ways, some connection. What was still unknown. He could just be a scholar but he seemed way too boyish for all that. ”Tell me,” he starts, folding his napkin neatly, ”does the crimson come from your jacket, your angry face or…" he pauses, shifting his gaze away. "Blood?” he asks, like it were quite a simple thing. 253/494 |

Vash had to chuckle when asked about the origins of his famous moniker. He usually had a joke or some kind of witty comeback for it, never telling the same story twice. But, something about Yan made Vash feel comfortable in talking to him. Like they were old friends or something. Even though the two barely knew each other. Vash took his seat opposite of the red haired man, who went back to enjoying his bowl of noodles. He finished off his churro, crumpled up the wrapper, and tossed it towards a waste bin a few tables over. The balled up wrapper hit the top of the lid, bounced, and landed on the floor. Well, that was embarrassing. He quickly turned his attention back to Yan, and a sly smile etched onto his face. "It's really a combination of things," he explained, shifting his body weight in his seat. "Some say it's because I'm like a storm on the battlefield, cloaked in red. Others attribute it to my speed. But, my favorite explanation comes from a story..." His voice trailed off, mysteriously. "There was a battle, on the fields of hell. Hundreds, maybe Thousands dead. Bodies littered the ground as far as the eye could see. Two people remained. A warrior clad in Crimson, and one in Azure. The Crimson warrior used somewhat of a signature technique of his. A massive tornado was conjured and launched at the man in blue, sucking up everything in its path of destruction. Grass, armor, bodies... Everything..." Vashs smile grew wider. "They say that the blood of the fallen ran so rampant that it swirled about the tornado, causing the twister itself to turn red..." The smile on Vashs face quickly disappeared. "But, that's probably just a story." 294//735 |

Yan munched on his noodles neatly. There was no chef to appeal to in eating messily, but as Vash took his time he leaned forward and got to it. He lifted his gaze only as the man missed the easy shot. Been hit too many times in the head that he'd lost his depth perception? He shook his head a little and lifted his bowl to sip some of the broth. Vash started into his explanation as the redhead set the bowl down and Yan gave him his full attention. He had worn the crimson title himself for a time. Like Vash it was a combination, for him of his hair and the blood that often covered him. There was something about the word "crimson" that appealed to violence. "It's your title, shouldn't you know?" he asks with a bit of amusement. He was interested in how quickly Vash's smile had disappeared as if he'd been snapped out of a pleasant memory. Whether it was just a well spun tale or a real event was certainly up to question and yet it was completely capable of being true. Maybe, at least in part. He leaned back in the chair and seemed to give it some thought. "Is that the story of how you became archangel or is that something even more dramatic?" he asks, looking to him again with that knowing gaze. The right hand of Lucifer still knew nothing of Yan and yet he seemed to have dipped into a well of knowledge about him. It was curious, but not completely unexpected. 263/757 |

The patrons of the food court started to file out of the area, which only could have meant one of two things. Either that a "normal" eating time was over and people were returning to their everyday business, or that the mall was closing. Sunlight still managed to poke it's way into the windows, so Vash settled on the former. Yan had seemed to take interest in the story that the Crimson typhoon had just weaved. Whether he believed it or not, Vash couldn't really care less. The demon often times lacked in the friend department, and having a set of ears to vent to was a nice commodity, no matter how rare. He was just glad he had someone to talk to for a little while. The red head tried to dig deeper, asking about the origins of Vashs current standing within the demon race and the organized structure of hell. Vash could only smile and shake his head from left to right one time. "That, my friend, is a story for another time." Once again Vash had an encounter with this mysterious Yan Cass fellow. And although this time Vash had revealed a bit about himself to the young lad, there was still a lot he didn't know about this guy. "I'm sure you've got things to do as well, Yan," Vash mentioned. "But I would be interested in hearing where you come from." 279//1000+ |

Yan had finished his food with the rest of the lot. It hadn’t been bad but like the rest of the lot, other business was calling. He could put it off a bit, he supposed, it if meant getting some answers from this man, but the typhoon smiled and shrugged it off instead. Yan sighed lightly and nodded, expecting as much. It was interesting how lightly people used the word “friend” with each other, but the redhead would remember it. He would build on it. People like Vash were good to have as friends. People that wanted battle and adventure and were willing to pay their lives for it and be happy paying it. The Right Hand of Lucifer had already sold his soul but that didn’t mean objectives couldn’t tie together later. As he mentioned him having other things to do Yan nodded, getting the empty soup bowl back to the tray’s center and pushing himself to his feet. He had a lot of things to do, his time on Earth was beginning to reach it’s end and that always left many strands of yarn to be tied together. Speaking of, there was a question from Vash tied in there after but Yan only smiled to it. ”Some people don’t come from anywhere Vash, what about them?” and asks with an air of discrimination that only added to his mystery. He smiles again though, and with that he was on his way. 243/1000 |
