“There is a much finer line between light and darkness than people like to think, and stepping over it is made easier when the darkness obscures it.” Thought sprang back to Gokan before anything else. A flash of consciousness and then a hazy awareness of his surroundings, though hot on its heels was pain. It cascaded over him, filled him, before finally centreing on the back of his head. A pulsating throbbing pain that seemingly seeped deep into the inner confines of his brain; this was going to leave a headache to rival all headaches. Memory and understanding were a few of the last things to return to him, though even then it was nothing more than broken thoughts. He knew through vaguely distorted realisation that he had slipped unconscious, but he had no idea why. What he did know though was that he was laying face down in the dirt. He knew this even before he opened his eyes and confirmed it. The cool and somewhat moist soil was pressed firmly against his cheek, the scent of it rich within his nose. As his fingers moved he felt them dig through the partially loose soil, digging miniature trenches as his fists clenched and unclenched several times. It was good to get the feeling of movement back into his body, even if the movement was only slight. A groan slipped from between his lips as he tensed his arms and began to push his body up off of the ground. “Ugh… I hope someone got the registration of the car that hit me…” but even the humour seemed dampened through the haze of everything. He had been hit, that much he remembered now. It had been him who had made the first move, darting towards the clan's leader in an attempt to extract him from the area before blood was shed. He’d clearly never made it, having been stopped during the process. Who had hit him? Who out of that ragtag group was even capable of hitting him? As his vision flickered into focus, Gokan felt something wet trickle across the fingers of his left hand. Blinking once more to fully restore his vision, the young half-breed glanced at his hand curiously. A thick, crimson liquid was slowly flowing into the grove in the dirt that his fingers had created and still resided within. It was blood. Taking a deep breath, Gokan followed the trail of blood no more than a few feet from where he was still kneeling, when his eyes fell upon the cause. The corpse was laying on his stomach just staring back at him. Blank expression and glazed eyes open, devoid of the electricity found within everyone that signified the wondrous miracle that was being alive. A thin dribble of crimson was leaking from the corner of his mouth, but the main body of blood had pooled underneath him, a hole ripped into his back. It was the individual that Gokan had assumed was Crin. Closing his eyes briefly, Gokan allowed the information to sink into his still foggy brain. He hadn’t failed his job, not technically at least. The job had been to kill them all, to take revenge for what they had done. It had been his own choice to go against his ‘employers’ mandate and at least try to resolve the situation somewhat peacefully. Yet as he glanced around at his immediate surroundings he saw nothing but death and failure. They were all dead, every last one of them. No, every last one but… “I hope you don’t mind staying, you see, I’m just getting interested.” the voice rasped as if chiseled from the very scythe of Death itself. Without hesitation Gokan sprang to his feet and spun around, his balance wobbling ever so slightly. “You…” anger rolled beneath the surface, pushing at the boundaries of decency that held back the animal within. “You killed them all!” his hand sliced through the air, gesturing to each of the dead bodies that laid strewn across the inevitable battlefield. Grabbing at his own jacket, Gokan pulled it free of his body and threw it to the ground, though even in his angered state he was careful to make sure that it did not land in any blood; it was expensive, after all. “Then have it your way,” he spat, grinning maliciously. “Lets dance, you and I.” Word Count: 730. |

The crimson blood that belonged to the humans dripped down his arm, making gentle drums as it struck the pool in the dirt that submerged a small portion of his boot. The heavy smell of copper in the air made his nostrils flare, savouring the euphoria that washed over him. There were some pleasures to be had on this planet, though for how long they kept him interested remained to be seen. Slaughter was all well and good, but even he found it a chore to keep it interesting when there was just no challenge to it. Regardless, Kaizer pushed those thoughts away. They would do him no good and only serve to depress him. Besides, the young freak was starting to gather himself and get up. A hint of a smile rippled across Kiazer’s face as he noted with amusement the young hybrids slight wobble as he clambered to his feet. The shot to the back of the head had been a dirty tactic but he couldn’t allow this new freaky haired stranger to get between him and his fun. The slaughter had been fun after all, though the fact that this weirdly coloured haired freak was even getting up at all meant that he had potential. Potential to be even more fun than killing the Humans had been. “You...You killed them all!” Anger boiled over and rolled out in the stranger's voice, pleasing Kaizer to no end. He had been beginning to worry that this one would be as boring as the others, if somewhat prematurely, and that wouldn’t have been fun. Not at all. “Then have it your way,” he spat, grinning maliciously. “Lets dance, you and I.” A laugher ripped through the air, originating from Kaizer. This stranger sure was a corny one. I mean, who even spoke like that? Hopefully the laugh would rile the weirdo up even more so. Anger and hatred made for a passion in battle unlike any other. People always seemed to throw their absolute everything into each punch and kick when they wanted to absolutely obliterate their opponent. What could be more enjoyable about facing an opponent when life and death were truly on the line? Where you could see the burning in their eyes that wanted to incinerate you into nothingness? Kaizer only hoped his bite was worse than his bark, though it was truly rare for him to stumble upon a warrior who could back up such claims. Rapidly building a small ball of Ki within his body, Kaizer flung his arm forward and hauled it at the stranger without any more warning than that. He knew his attack wouldn’t do much damage if it hit, nor did he want it to, he hoped it would serve as a distraction as he threw himself into a run, charging his opponent head on. The gap between them closed in a matter of seconds and when Kaizer could see the very whites of his opponents eyes he unleashed a flurry of quick rabbit punches, though the smoke and dust caused by the sheer speed of his own attack made it difficult to judge whether or not any of them had been a success or not. Smoke and debris still clouded the air around him as he kicked back, hoping to put some space between him and the younger opponent. This was all a test. Seeing what his opponent could handle. After all, he didn’t want to peak too soon and have this fight finished in the blink of an eye. Still moving back through the air, gaining more and more distance between the two of them, Kaizer allowed his Ki to flow throughout his body, building itself up in his midnight black pupils. A growl slipped between the grin that broke through his expression as his eye beam screamed towards the centre of the commotion, hopefully where the young half breed still stood in complete confusion. Gokan, having verbally issued the clearly inevitable challenge, had expected the already angered Saiyan to attack first. He had grown up surrounded by some of the strongest, and at points in their lives some of the most ruthless Saiyans left in the universe, and he knew exactly how they ticked. In truth he wasn’t too dissimilar, as much as the Human within him wanted to disagree; it was largely why his anger has caused him to issue the challenge so rashly. What would Piccolo say if he knew you challenged an unknown opponent so recklessly? though he already knew exactly how Piccolo would have reacted. He’d no doubt knock me in the back of the head and tell me I wasn’t ready to fight anyone, let alone a serious opponent. but it was far too late for regrets now. The dice had been thrown willingly, all that was left now was to see how they landed. As expected a ball of energy went hurtling through the air towards the half-breed. He could hear it crackling and hissing as it rapidly approached. Gokan could sense it too. It was nothing to worry about, barely even strong enough to singe his clothing if it made contact. It had been expected that his opponent would try to feel out his limitation; Gokan would have done the very same thing if he had attacked first. Standing tall, Gokan braced himself and simply chopped into the ball of energy as it reached it. It exploded on contact, a miniature cloud of smoke erupting all around him. The realisation that it was a distraction came all too late. The other Saiyan ripped through the smoke directly ahead of Gokan and began assaulting his midsection with a flurry of rapid punches. Each struck as hard as the one before, the wind literally being driven out of Gokan with each blow. The onslaught didn’t last long, and almost before he knew it the Saiyan was jumping back through the air, his eyes glowing red with built up energy. Gokan fell to one knee. He would have liked to have said that it was intentional, but the simple truth was that his legs had partially given out after the unexpected beating his stomach had taken. However, he was not out of the fight just yet. As two thin beams of energy rushed towards him, Gokan pounced up into the air at the very last moment, the beams colliding with the ground directly below him. Gliding through the air towards his opponent, Gokan threw a ball of energy. Then another. Then another. Three energy balls rushed towards the Saiyan, each exploding on a different side of him; one directly behind and the remaining two on either side of him. Gokan had left him nowhere left to go except for straight towards his oncoming opponent. Anticipating this, Gokan span his body as it moved through the air, allowing his head to fall forward as he brought up his leg in an attempt to kick the Saiyan directly across his face with all of his weight and the momentum of his body. The heat of the energy exploding from his eyes shot pangs of discomfort deep into Kaizer’s head. His eyes would sting for some time after this, potentially hindering his vision in the process as they watered and it became necessary for him to blink far more. It was never easy exposing such a part of your body to the intense heat of your inner energy, but such unexpected attacks often resulted in the best conclusions. However, unfortunately this was not one of those times. At the last possible moment the purple haired freak sprung up from his position on one knee, basically springing above the attack and narrowly avoiding it. He barely avoided that. My punches must have done more damage than I had thought. Kaizer thought as he watched the slightly younger fighter moving through the air. Weakling freak. Kaizer spat on the floor, the thought of his opponents clear weakness having left a disgusting taste in his mouth. This battle, if it could even be called that, would not last much longer. Kaizer had already grown bored with this opponent. He would finish this quickly. Yet, suddenly the Saiyan warrior felt a surge of energy build within his opponent. The young freak could control and manipulate his energy too it seemed. Still moving through the air he extended his arm and shot three separate Ki balls towards Kaizer. He knew right from the moment they were fired that none would hit him, each missing their mark by at least two feet. “Pitiful.” Kaizer spat as he stood his ground. However, as they approached he realised that they would explode all around him, surrounding him in a cloud of smoke much like the one he had used on his opponent no more than a few moments ago. Falling for his own trick would not do. Wasting no time he pounced just as the three explosions sounded around him, moving through the air directly towards his purple opponent. He would meet him in the air and end this with one more blow of his fist! Pulling back his fist he watched as his opponent began to shift as he moved through the air, his body spinning in preparation for something. No doubt he believed he could land an attack against Kaizer and perhaps he could, but it would do him no good. This was about to be finished. Pulling his arm back, Kaizer’s fist clenched until the exposed skin of his knuckles went white as it stretched across the bone, and just like that he released his punch. Because of his opponents position in the air, Kaizer’s fist shot downward with all the speed and accuracy that he could muster, it sailing towards the purple haired fighters exposed jaw. So confident was he that he didn’t even attempt to angle his body so that he could also avoid the oncoming kick. Connection was felt in two places at almost the exact same moment; his fist and his face. His punch had indeed hit his mark, the other fighters face being forced downward by the sheer force of the blow, yet his foot stretched the length of Kaizer’s face as it slammed into it with just as much pressure. The two warriors were forced apart by each physical attack, both bodies crashing into the dirt with resounding thuds. By the time that Kazier’s body stopped sliding he could feel himself slipping out of consciousness. Anger flooded into the hazy recesses of his mind, though it was mixed with an uneasy feeling of self-doubt. How had this happened? Had he truly lost? All his questions faded from his mind as he finally lost consciousness. They very last image he saw was that of his opponents body strewn across the dirt some distance away, his eyes already closed as he lay there unconscious. With this knowledge Kaizer willingly slipped away, the faintest of satisfied smirks pulling at the corner of his lips. WC: 662. My Finished WC: 1,328. Total Completed WC: 2,578. |
