The Avatar of War
|
The Avatar of War’s twin was very displeased with Namek as she sat in the middle of the room her brother and her shared. It also didn’t help that no one thought to spark a conversation with her. She understood that some were probably off doing things for the Namekians, but couldn’t at least someone stay behind so that she wouldn’t feel alone? Was she some infectious disease to them or something? Ugh whatever. Rather than mope around about it, she did what she normally did in those situations. She pulled out a device that played music and placed the headphones in each of her ears. As the melody played, she laid there with her eyes open and realized that like her brother, she too had experienced loneliness. Walina didn’t survive in the wild or anything like that; she was surrounded by people who didn’t seem to care one way or another about her. Before she could dive deeper into that thought, something crossed her mind. Everything was… quiet outside. There wasn’t the sound of anything going on anywhere near her current location. Weren’t they supposed to be in the middle of a battlefield? “Is it over with that soon or something?” she mumbled under her breath. WC: 207 |

Bulma took a soft breath. She had stayed behind to see Ranto off, but it was coming time for her to make her own journey onward. She was packing up her bag, feeling a bit like a kid going on a school trip as she packed lunches of all things. Well, there wasn’t very many good sources of food on Namek, so it was a needed thing, but it still felt quite silly. Maybe it was already her high nerves, but she couldn’t shake it. After she packed her bag she stretched out her sense and looked for her friends as well as her path. What she didn’t expect to sense was Walid’s abandoned sister still so close at hand. She had vanished a bit early on and while she had assumed she’d come back, she hadn’t given her as much thought as she probably should have. She didn’t know anything about the girl, and the fact that Walid had originally said he didn’t know his family was not completely unforgotten. They certainly looked enough alike she could deny their relationship but then...Walid had a clone. She could very well be one too. Oh, that was a nasty train of thought. Was she always such a suspicious person? Probably. Walid trusted her, and that would have to be enough for now. For all Bulma knew, she shared just as traumatic a past as her brother. She went back and absently packed some food together once more and made her way to the rooms provided for them and towards Walina. She knocked gently, and whether there was an answer or not she’d crack the door open and poke her head in. ”Are you hungry?” 284/284 |

There was a knock on the door, but it completely went over the Zaunite’s head. She almost didn’t even notice that the door was cracked. When she saw who it was, she was a little shocked, but at the same time she wasn’t. Out of all the Guardians, she figured the scientist out of the bunch would make the initiative to hang out with her. The fact that she’d even invited her to stay at Capsule Corporation without knowing her told her that. It helped that her brother spoke highly of her and for that reason alone, she was somewhat hoping she would get the chance to meet the blue-haired woman. Walina also didn’t want to admit it, but she was hungry. Her brother probably would have jumped at the chance for food, but she wasn’t like that. “If it isn’t the blue-haired bombshell,” she said, turning off her music player, “Is a movie included in that or is it just dinner?” That probably wasn’t the response Bulma wanted, but the Zaunite couldn’t help it. She would also have been happy if a flick truly was, she loved movies. Almost immediately without waiting for a response, Walina stood up and walked over to the door, further opening it. “Don’t worry though,” she added, “I’m not like Walid, I won’t eat everything in sight. I was raised better than that.” The pink-haired woman may have said that, but she wasn’t raised better than her brother. He was in the wild while she lived under the roof of a Gladiator Champion who was as barbaric as the Avatar of War. It almost made one wonder how in the world she became so spoiled. Bulma tilted her head a little at the almost flirty acknowledgement, though her smile did not fade. As the girl continued she lifted her free hand to her chin seeming to think about it more than Walina had intended. "You know, I could probably hook something up from the satellites. Damaskia has some interesting programs," she offers looking back to her curiously. Was she there to fight or was she merely along for the ride? Music could only entertain someone for so long. She's probably be bored by now. The door was opened wider for her and she offered the girl the plate. It was filled heavily but not to an unreasonable amount such as she might have for Chishan or Walid. She thought it might be rude simply assuming the girl needed as much and that if in the end she did, she could lead her to more. "There's not many food sources on Namek, so I was more worried you hadn't eaten at all," she explains, taking the warm greeting and door opening as permission to enter and maybe stay for a bit. She looked around the room for any clues of Walina. She really knew nothing of the girl. 202/486 |

Right away her attention went to what Bulma had proposed. Was it possible to do something like that? From what her brother told her, she would be stuck with nothing to do. It also did cross her mind that Walid didn’t know a thing about technology and just said that so he wouldn’t look like a fool. “You’re slowly working your way into my heart~” she teased, starting to see what her brother saw in the blue-haired woman, “But I don’t want to be a bother, I’m sure Walid already fulfills that role as it is.” After that she took the food that was offered to her and started to eat. As she did, she couldn’t help but stare at the scientist. Was she looking for something? Was she trying to find out more about the pink-haired woman? She’d been involved with tons of criminal organizations to know what she should leave lying around. The only thing one would find in their search were only things that belonged to the Avatar of War. She wanted to remain as a ghost until she saw that there was no possible reason for her to be one. She had plenty of enemies, she couldn’t afford to let anyone know too much about her. Unfortunately, her brother was included into that bunch even though he was working as her bodyguard. “You know,” she said while her eyes were closed, eating, “If you want to know about me all you have to do is ask. I don’t bite… much.” WC: 254 TWC: 741 |

Bulma blinked as the girl once more threw in a jibe at her brother, her smile fading a bit. She tilted her head and studied her, trying to understand where such negative feelings came from. She had said she was raised better, which was kind of cruel if she knew how Walid was raised. She assumed he was nothing but a bother when he had done nothing but try and help Walina since she had suddenly appeared, or at least that’s how it seemed to the scientist. The room only held traces of Walid, another space he had claimed but welcomed her into. It was odd. At the invitation to speak, Bulma lowered her chin again and looked her dead on. ”You’re a bit tough on him aren’t you?” she asks. ”Walid, he’s not a bother, he’s a very important member of our team,” she explains, crossing the room to take a seat next to her. She set her elbows on her knees and leaned forward a bit, unguarded and relaxed so the girl might feel more at ease. ”Me and my sister, well, I definitely give her a hard time, a lot, but you and Walid are still new to each other right?” 204/690 |

The pink-haired woman will admit that she was a little hard on her brother, maybe it was a habit she picked up from the mother. She was raised in an environment where she was treated harsher to get strengthened up. It was part of the reason that, like her brother, she didn’t want to return back to Zaun or at the least see the Gladiator Champion for a while. Something was also said that confused Walina. Their relationship was probably new for the pink-haired warrior, but it wasn’t for her. She took it upon herself to check on her brother every now and then to see how he was doing. Even when he decided to venture out into the world, she never stopped watching over him. At the same time, she also knew that Bulma wouldn’t know anything about that. It was then that she decided to say something. “I’m sure my brother already bragged about how we met up again,” she said, unaware of the things Walid revealed, “But that’s not the first time we’ve seen each other, or not directly.” She stopped herself there, trying to come up with words that wouldn’t make her sound like a stalker. She also wanted to make sure that she didn’t reveal too much. “Walid didn’t know it, but I’ve been watching him for years, in secret,” she mumbled out with her knuckles resting on her cheek, “I know his habits; I know his reputation and even the way he thinks. But that’s not why I’m hard on him. I do that because that’s just how our mother raised us-- or well me. She was a champion who wanted warriors.” WC: 278 TWC: 1,000+ |

Bulma brow scrunched a little at Walina’s first words, feeling a little guilty. With everything that had happened, she had not talked much to Walid. She had not given him the chance to explain his sister. She felt guilty suddenly, but she had gotten so wrapped up in preparations and leaving Capsule Corp… ”He didn’t, actually,” she says softly, if only to assure the girl he hadn’t been using her as something to make himself look better. That was not in Walid’s character. She explained further and Bulma listened, keeping her face soft. She could imagine it, living a life where such things had to be done in secret. After speaking with Agatha, her daughter remained in her thoughts. She imagined all the ways she could have been brought up, all the things she might have dealt with. Had she been brought up in the wild like Walid? Had she been brought up strictly like a warrior? She rested her hands in her lap, twining her fingers together. ”Sometimes the things our parents teach us are things we have to relearn all together,” she says with a weak smile. ”Can I ask you though...why you never revealed yourself before now? Walid, he was alone for so long…if you were able to look in on him…” Perhaps it was a rude thing to say. She didn’t know the girl’s situation, but then, she had said she could ask. 238/928 |

The Avatar of War

She was completely shocked to hear that Walid didn’t boast about his bravery, but she figured why he didn’t. Her brother seemed like a closed book when it came to Zaun affairs. That was one of his flaws that Walina hoped that he would soon change, freeing their home planet wasn’t going to be an easy task. Allies from all over the galaxy would probably be needed. “That’s…,” she mumbled, sulking down with her face into her knees, “Is kind of complicated. It started out as me being curious to see how he would survive, but then I was caught up in illegal things, things that I didn’t want him to get involved with.” The pink-haired woman also wanted to shield the Avatar of War from the truth about his family, but she didn’t want to disclose that information. That was meant for her brother’s ears first before anyone’s. Walina then explained what happened next in her life and why she wasn’t able to see her brother. “After I learned that I needed help, I decided to finally see him but,” she said as her face was completely covered, “I was kidnapped by a few PTO grunts and brought to a prison. That’s how we reunited; he ventured to the prison with the help of an old friend of his and broke me out along with other Zaunites.” She would have gone on to describe more about that moment, but she didn’t want to remember. She didn’t want to remember the anger she’d witnessed from Walid for his people. |

Bulma listened quietly, even as the girl admitted she had gotten caught up in some questionable things. She felt a little bad again for the negative things she thought of the girl prior when she explained how she was trying to keep Walid out of it. It was the honorable thing to do, even if her other actions weren’t quite there. She crawled into herself, losing all trace of her earlier flamboyance, and Bulma was tempted to reach out but she refrained. Walina explained how she had been taken prisoner and that Walid had stepped in to save her and Bulma could imagine it. She remembered the way Walid shook, the way his face hardened. She had yet to see him in a real battle and she was almost frightened to. Almost. Maybe she was naive, but she felt like she knew Walid by now, and what she knew was a boundless amount of kindness with a soft heart. His rage was just one piece of him, and it would not overshadow the rest. She would not let it. She lifted her hand and gently touched the girl's shoulder, half expecting her to flinch. "Then I'm glad he finally found you," she says as gently as she could. 1000+ |
