Beep… beep… beep…

The radio that was attached to Krillin’s hip kept constantly ringing as he patrolled through the city on his motorbike. He probably should have answered the call, but his mind was focused on his past. The life of a martial artist seemed like fun at the time and that’s how he was. It wasn’t until he realized it wasn’t a well paying gig that he stopped. So that he could use the strength he’d gain to his advantage, he joined the Police Force.

As he stopped at a red light, he scanned around to see if there was anyone in need. When he saw that no one was in trouble, he smiled but secretly he wished that at least something big would happen. He became a cop so that he could beat up the bad guys. If no one needed him, what was the point? Suddenly as he drove off, a recurring sound finally reached his ears.

He wasn’t sure what it was and then felt something vibrating from his side. When he looked to see what it was, he accidently slammed on the brakes of his Cop-bike. That caused both his ride as well as himself to fly headfirst into the road, causing a massive pile up.

“Stop your honking, I’m moving out of the way!” he said, shaking his fist while he carried his bike out of the road.

It was a really good thing that he was wearing his helmet, or so he thought. If others noticed him shaking off an injury like that, there’s no telling what kind of questions they’d ask. With that taken care of, he pressed a button so that he could learn what the fuss was about. There was an APB issued out for all officers in the area.

“Calling all officers, calling all officers. There is a man going from dojo to dojo killing masters that he deems aren’t worthy enough to live. He’s armed with a sword and is extremely dangerous.”

A drop of sweat fell from the tiny Earthling’s brow as he heard all of that and gulped from fear. He did want a little more excitement in his life, but that was a little too much. That was when he noticed a dojo standing right next to him on the same block, causing his heart to pound even faster. Across on the other side of the street, he also noticed a burger stand. Krillin decided that food was just what he needed before he’d tackle a mess like that.

Once he made his way over to the stand, he took a seat and asked for a burger with some fries and a shake. As he waited for his food, he couldn’t stop shivering. A mugger was his ideal perk to handle, not someone who was a killer. Why now of all times?!

“S... Say mister,” he mumbled to the person next to him, “I… I don’t suppose you know if that dojo over there was already attacked.”

[dohtml]

Yamcha felt sluggish as he moved through the streets of West City. He hadn’t been sleeping very well lately due to the fact that his personal cabin, as well as the rest of his hand built School, had been destroyed by a storm. There was something about sleeping on the ground that just didn’t work for him anymore. Being as tender and sore as he was, it was quite laborious to even walk around the big city that served as home to the Capsule Corporation.

Speaking of which, that was another reason he didn’t really want to be here. The Briefs family. More specifically, Bulma. If Yamcha had the option to avoid her at all costs, he usually took it. There were just too many mixed feelings tied with seeing her and he was trying to live a calm, trouble free life now. He had no desire to bring all that unnecessary drama back into the fold.

That being said, it was hard to teach an old dog new tricks. The word on the street, which somehow made it back to him in the forest on the mainland, was that a mysterious man with a deadly sword had been going around offing any Dojo master he beat in a duel. That didn’t sit well with Yamcha. As much as he would like to stay out of the fighting circuit, he couldn’t just stand by while some sword-toting maniac was going around offing all of his peers.

No, it was best to stop this Dojo Destroyer before he found his way to the Wolf School.

It was all of that which brought him to the burger stand located in front of the Hatsumoto Dojo, deep within the bowels of West City - also unfortunately located directly down the street from the Capsule Corporation. Not wanting to be easily recognized, Yamcha attempted to make himself look as inconspicuous as possible by wearing a Taitans baseball cap low against his brow to conceal his features, as well as an oversized jacket to mask the physical definition of his body.

It was also hard to see his face when the most of it was obscured by a tasty, oversized burger.

Yamcha didn’t pay much attention when someone took a seat next to him. He only turned to address the man, who was revealed to be a police officer by the bike helmet on his dome, when the stuttering short stop started talking to him. Hey… Hey! It was his old pal from back in the day when he trained as Roshi’s. It was Krillin!

“HREY!” he muffled excitedly through a mouthful of ground chuck and cheese. He jumped out of his stool at the side of the burger stand and threw his arms out enthusiastically, still clutching the hamburger fiercely in his right hand.

“KRIRRIN. IT’S MRE, YOUR OLD BRUDDY, YARMCHA!”

Between the disguise, his incoherent shouting, and the spattering of burger flying out of his mouth – it would be easy to assume that Yamcha himself was the madman the police were after.

[/dohtml]

Out of all the things that could have happened, he ran into a familiar face. He didn’t recognize the man when he practically jumped from his seat to give the tiny Earthling a hug. Even as the mysterious stranger said something, he still didn’t remember who he was because of the way he spoke. He immediately passed him off as a weirdo until he took a second look. It was hard for him to forget someone like the Wolf King.

While in his look, because of his friend’s appearance, he quickly thought that he was deranged killer who was going from dojo to dojo slaying people. It really didn’t help that challenging others seemed like something Yamcha wouldn’t do. All of his irrational thinking caused the Moto-Cop to freak out in panic. Unaware to him, someone in the background was trying to get his attention, but sadly they were ignored.

“Wait, you’re the Dojo Destroyer?!” he yelped, backing up for a bit.

He didn’t want to believe it; someone has good natured as the Wolf King wouldn’t be a killer even though it was fitting for the type of animal he symbolized. Regardless of whether or not his accusations were true, the Monk of Justice pulled out his handcuffs. He’d try to arrest the man that was his friend, but didn’t think that would be possible. Instead, he waiting, hoping that Yamcha would do what’s right on his own.

By that time Krillin’s order was done and the soft spoken citizen who was trying to get his attention continued to yell out. Unfortunately for them, the officer still didn’t notice them. His mind was still trying to process what was going on. It wasn’t until the unknown man started to hit the tiny Earthling, causing him to get angry.

“What do you want?!” he yelled out, “Do you want to be arrested too?”

His shouts had managed to cause the young man to get scared and cower down. The Monk of Justice started to calm down after he tried to look at the situation through the bystander’s point of view. He’d kneel down to help them up, but to the man, he practically already was because of his short height.

“I’m sorry for all that,” Krillin apologized, “Now what did you want?”

“I saw a man carrying a sword walking over towards that building over there,” the petite young man said as he pointed at the Dojo, that the tiny Earthling had just asked about.

“Oh…” he mumbled and then shot an embarrassed look at his friend, “No time to just stand there like a dummy, we have to go stop him before he attacks those helpless people!”

[dohtml]

“What?!” Yamcha barked out in disbelief before falling into a fit of coughing after a piece of poorly chewed hamburger got lodged in his throat. He couldn’t believe that Krillin was going to try and slap the cuffs on him right then and there. They hadn’t seen each other in years and the first thing he’s going to do is throw him in the slammer?! He knew it was bad to unexpectedly bail on your buddy during the middle of the night but getting arrested seemed a bit on the punishing side of the scale.

Eventually, Yamcha was able to hack up the beef that was blocking his airway and gave Krillin another incredulous look as he started yelling at a regular citizen. It was then that he overheard the bystander talking about how he witnessed a sword-carrying menace stalking toward the Hatsumoto Dojo that the Wolf had been camping out. It was clear that he wasn’t much of a watch dog considering how easily he was distracted.

Damn! He slipped right by me!

Finally, Krillin realized the error in his ways. Yamcha’s expression softened immediately. How could he stay mad at someone like that good-natured little monk and his bald little head? Was he even bald anymore? He couldn’t see underneath that bike helmet. Before he could get a word in, Krillin was on the beat and ready to go take down the enemy that he was so willing to avoid just a few minutes ago. Either way, Yamcha peeled out of his trenchcoat and threw it to the ground.

“Let’s do this, buddy! I’ve got your back! You’re the authority here, you lead the way!” Yamcha said as he quickly turned his Taitans ball cap around so the bill was facing the opposite direction he was looking. He was in fight mode now and ready to tenderize some swordsman punk’s face with his fists.

[/dohtml]

He thought to ask if his old friend was alright from all his choking, but ended up not to. He couldn’t believe he suspected someone that used to train with Roshi and him. If they weren’t pressed for time, he would have even shoved his foot into his mouth. Rather than doing anything that he initial thought of doing, the Monk of Justice simply raised his arm close to the man in a way friends usually did.

“Just like the old days huh,” he said and then brought his focus back to the task at hand.

Since the Dojo wasn’t far he chose to just run towards it. As he crossed the road a few cars ran by and nearly slammed into him. He thought that it was a good thing they didn’t, he didn’t really want to explain why he wasn’t dead. There was, however, one that was unavoidable on foot. Before he could get hit, the tiny Earthling hopped right over it and then face planted as he landed. He was about to dust himself off when he heard a yell of some kind.

“Crap there’s no time to waste!” he exclaimed and entered the small building.

A professional officer probably would have attacked the one with the sword, but unfortunately Krillin was still a novice. There were two fighters, one who fought with their fists and one who was blocking the strikes with a blade. The Monk of Justice went for the one who was winning and was about to slam his fist into him when someone from behind told him he had the wrong guy.

“W… What,” he mumbled and then turned to see the Samurai in mid swing.

Instead of blocking the assault, Krillin used his head. He ducked down a bit so that all that the blade could slice was his hearty helmet. Despite the durability, it was sliced in half and the tiny Earthling was sent flying towards a wall. He couldn’t help but the hold his head from the throbbing pain. He wasn’t hurt, but if it wasn’t for his protective gear, he felt like he would have lost his head.

“Yamcha,” he waved his hand, “You get the Samurai while I get these guys to safety!”

It was true that he wanted to fight, but he was still a bit rusty. He figured that his friend didn’t slack off like he did and was more suited for the job. While hopefully the Wolf King took on the Dojo Destroyer, he quickly grabbed the ones who were injured, slowly carrying them to the outside world. After he was able to get the last one he dialed on his walkie talkie to call for an ambulance. In the middle of his wait, he stared at the Dojo, wondering how Yamcha was fairing.

[dohtml]

Crossing the street proved to be a large feat for Krillin, who looked much like Frogger as he avoided becoming a human pancake on the pavement. It was a trivial task for Yamcha considering he took to the air momentarily and made his way to the other side over the tops of the traffic that started to accumulate. Before he could set foot down, though, Krillin was already back on his feet and rushing into the dojo handle the situation.

Apparently Yamcha and Krillin had two different methods of protecting the inhabitants of the fighting studio. The fact that they were looking for a sword-wielding badguy would have led the Wolf to go after the guy attacking everyone with a blade, whereas Krillin – well, he went after the unarmed man and attempted to escort him away with his fists. Maybe the monk hit his head a little harder than he thought when he dove over that car a moment ago. So much for the safety of bike helmets.

Krillin realized his error just in time to get clobbered in the head with a downward slash. Yamcha moved to Krillin’s aid but he was waved off and told to handle the Dojo Destroyer instead. He nodded in affirmation.

“Hey man, that’s my buddy you hit there. I don’t take kindly to people hurting my friends,” Yamcha said sternly as he stared the man down.

The Destroyer shook his head and approached Yamcha with his sword at the ready. It was apparent that the bully was going to try and take a swing at him. Yamcha had to suppress a laugh behind the guise of his wolfish grin. This was going to be a piece of cake.

As the enemy took his leading step forward and brought the sword down in a slashing motion, Yamcha quickly lashed out and took ahold of the sword from the top side – stopping it before it could find a new home within his body. Holding the blade steady in one hand, the other came up swiftly and delivered a strong palm into the flat side of the sword. The blade easily snapped in two.

Before the Dojo Destroyer could stumble out of the shock of having his beloved sword broken right in front him, Yamcha pressed forward and delivered a single, solid punch straight to the man’s nose. That was all it took and he was laid out on the floor seeing stars above his head. Yamcha seemed puzzled by the fact that it only took one punch to bring the menacing fellow down. He wondered how so many had been booted off the mortal coil by him when he was so feeble behind his sword.

No matter.

Yamcha grabbed the man by the cuff of his pant leg and dragged him out of the dojo and onto the sidewalk where Krillin and company were waiting. He felt good to be helping even though it wasn’t his desire to get back in on the action any time soon. It was much easier living the quiet life than always having your life threatened by some danger every other day.

[/dohtml]
