[dohtml]<iframe width="80" height="75" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/DYEkeRestBI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>[/dohtml] Having finally awoken from his longer than usual stasis, Xaphiel clutched his forehead before shaking his head briefly to try and catch his lost senses. Confusion swept over him, the last thing he’d remembered being an encounter with a strange woman. A woman who obviously was not of this realm, and whom even said the same herself. Her words echoed back through his head.. I’d say.. you got about a week and a half now? About ten days. Three of them, at least. Who is behind them, I can’t say.. At any rate, consider this your forewarning.” His eyes widened, having finally remembered it all and he clutched his forehead even tighter, while gritting his teeth. “Shit.. could it have been.. A dream?” He muttered under his breath, trying to get a grip and make sense of all of it. Just who was she referring to? And how long had he been out? While he frantically tried to put the pieces together, he had almost forgotten where he was. He had woken back up at his old lab, that was run by the same crazy old bat who had re-pieced Xaphiel together all those years ago. Strider.. He thought to himself in a bit of worry. He had to be sure his old friend was okay. So, with that he hopped up from his pod and slapped the door to it shut behind him. He scanned the surround area of the lab, and would see that it was a complete mess. Fortunately, this was the usual. Nothing out of the ordinary for Strider, who was almost always at work. Only, in this case… he had been passed out at his mainframe as he often was. Worked himself to exhaustion, again. Still, the pressed android let out a deep sigh of relief before pacing over to him to pat the old man on the shoulders. Part of him did it to ensure that he was actually still breathing and to check for a pulse. He was still extremely confused. He laughed a bit to himself, having felt a bit embarrassed that he had worried so much. Shrugging it off, he leaned up against the desk that Strider had been incapacitated upon and crossed his arms for a moment. In doing so, he looked down and noticed a letter of sorts with his name in big bold letters. It read, “To XAPHIEL: Hey, Xaphiel! It’s about that time.. Now, you’ve been my student for sometime now and a strange one at that. But, you claim to be a hero of the Earth and as a defender of this planet myself, I owe it the Earth to see that the next generations of defenders are up to the task! I may be able to put a few asses on the ground still, but I am old and old people deserve some R&R to catch up on their romantic flicks! *Hehe* Anyhow, head over to island just a few miles over from my own. Your trial is set to begin and should you pass it, you’ll be on your own and a full fledged graduate of the Turtle Hermit School of Martial Arts! ~~~ROSHI” Xaphiel read it in his head before crumpling it and shoving it into his pants pocket. “That old deviant. You would think he would give more an advance notice. This thing is dated for today. When did this even get here?” He asked before looking down at Strider, expecting an answer but only to be returned with the sound of snoring and a snot bubble bursting from the old doctor’s nose. “Blegh..” A disgusted Xaphiel would make his way toward the lab’s exit and slide open the mechanical doors with his bare hands. Upon exiting the cave, his eyes squinted in response to the bright sunlight and he shielded them with his left forearm will using his free arm to slam the doors back shut. “Suppose I should be on my way then. If I keep him waiting, he will probably wash up on the shore of some nude beach or something before long.” He took but a moment to gather up some ki which would then begin to surround him in a light bluish aura before he started to lift from the ground and head off to take flight. He headed away from the cave and the lab was out of sight in almost an instant. “Woah..” Xaphiel couldn’t put a finger on to what a cause might be or if it was even just all in his own head or not.. But he could feel that his power had increased exponentially. Could it have been the encounter with that otherworldly lady? How could it have been, though? Xaphiel wasn’t even sure the whole thing actually even happened. There wasn’t any explanation, but this power spike was very much real. And it felt.. great. He smirked as he kicked his speed into an even higher gear and his aura would engulf him in an even deeper blue hue. The surge was immense, unlike anything he had ever felt. It couldn’t have been any upgrades from the doctor. Those always left a sort of sense of pain, and beyond that, Strider said that he wouldn’t need anymore. Not from him, anyhow. He had done all that he was capable of for at least quite sometime. And with Xaphiel’s systems now being just as sentient as his own mind, the body would need nothing mechanical changed anytime soon. It would simply adapt, generating new cells and nerves as necessary. So, what was this? His body.. Adapting? But to what? “Not sure what it is, but I’ll take it. I’ll kick this trial straight in the ass.” He continued to grin and even burst into laughter as he flew at a lightning speed. He would even do a few barrel rolls out of excitement, and would almost fly entirely over his destination. Upon seeing the island that Roshi had specified in his letter of invitation, Xaphiel locked onto it and would zoom downward toward it in preparation for a landing. I wonder what the old deviant has cooked up for this “Trial”.. Xaphiel thought to himself. He had heard stories. All of them different in each case of former students. Some who passed. Some who didn’t. Some who failed miserably and just became raging alcoholics and barflies. It was probably for the best, either way. Still, his confidence was through the roof with this newfound endowment of power. He would make the absolute most of these gifts and blow this trial sky high. ----- WC: 1,121 TWC: 1,121 |

At first glance, he looked to be alone. The android would glide to his smooth landing, kicking up some dust on impact and shot Roshi a grin, as well as a wave. “How’s it hangin’, old man? What’s the word?” The elderly hermit stammered a bit, while also shaking some. He seemed awfully bothered by something, yet Xaphiel couldn’t put his finger on it. However, his internal scouter would almost immediately start to go off. There was something very close and the power level was definitely abnormal. His gaze would meet with Roshi’s and it would become increasingly apparent that something wasn’t right. It didn’t look like the trial would be starting just yet, not until whatever interference halting it was taken are of. ”Well, we have a bit of a problem, you see.. hehe..” Master Roshi finally managed to speak, before a foot could be seen stepping out from behind the rocky structure behind Roshi and eventually a entire large body. Xaphiel’s eyebrows raised a bit in surprise as he noticed that the figure wasn’t any normal human earthling, as their entire body was covered from head to toe in fur. Yet, they donned a Gi. The fur was a dark blueish tint and he had quite the muscular build. In showing himself, it was clear he was here for a fight. Why here and now was definitely the stranger part about all of it. But his shit eating grin and low tone laughter definitely made it appear as though he was here for some bloodsport. ”You must be this old runts latest pupil, eh? I thought you’d be a bit bigger, where’s the fun in this?” Xaphiel’s face took on a more serious and stern look, his fists clenching tightly at his sides as he glared down the beastly man. “What’s your deal, Fido?” The wolfman scoffed at the insult and continued to smirk as he paced out from behind the rocks and toward the android student. ”My deal? Well, my deal is that the next World Tournament is a ways off and I wasn’t sure I could wait that long to crush another pupil of the ‘great Master Roshi’ ~~” The stranger spoke Roshi’s name in a mocking tone. “Seriously? Nothing better to do, huh? Guess I can’t blame you.. Probably not getting many dates with that mug.” Xaphiel responded, smirking right back at the beast who was looking like they might be getting a bit more frustrated at this point. ”You think ‘yer funny, huh, kid? Fancy yourself some sort comedian? Well, let’s see how you laugh with a mouth full of gravel after I grind your face in the gro--” “Yeah, yeah, yeah.. Save me the cliche trash talk, let’s get on with it. Show me what you got, Spike!” ”You asked for it.. I’ll take it easy on you first..” Xaphiel stood entirely still for a bit, while the wolfman began his lunge toward him. The movements were not at all that difficult to track as they were. His opponent lunged, stepping to the right once just in front of Xaph. It was a clear fakeout attempt, as the step was immediately followed by a right hook attempt which was easily dodged. Then, they attempted to bring the hook back into an elbow before throwing a follow-up left hook. All easily dodged. The man hardly appeared to be trying, but his form was definitely excellent. Not much else could be said for him, as the moves themselves were not all that fast. Then again, Xaphiel’s power increase must have been playing a great part in this newfound ability to see these moves in a slower motion. He continued to swiftly dodge the attacks, before throwing a knee of his own directly into the gut of the beastman. Upon landing, he nearly threw the man’s stomach out through his back and their eyes almost launching out from his sockets. “You’re joking me, right? That is the best you can do?” Roshi who had been standing on the sidelines continued to cheer on his pupil, all while trying not to break a sweat by sitting in the shade of the rocks. It would seem he had the ultimate confidence in Xaphiel, especially so at this point. The wolfman fell to his knees for a second, coughing and hacking after the impact from the knee. As he was trying to catch his breath, Xaphiel struck him with another knee, this time directly into the face that would send his target flying and tumbling backwards into the rocky structure he had crawled out from behind. While doing all of this, Xaphiel’s fists had still not even left his sides once. In fact, he was becoming increasingly bored with the entire thing, ready to just get it over with so that he could get on with his trial. He began pacing away toward Roshi, while still speaking to the wolfman who was trying to break himself out from the crater his body’s impact created in the side of the quarry. “Look, you’re really just wasting both yours and my time. If you want to continue this little game playing my punching bag, we can do so later on. Right now, I’ve got something important to take care of, if you don’t mi--” [dohtml]<iframe width="80" height="75" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rYmsjocHajI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>[/dohtml] ”NOW JUST WAIT A SECOND, DAMN IT..” The beaten man shouted, as Xaphiel continued pacing. He was starting to make his way back to his feet, and Xaphiel could feel the earth around them starting to move a bit. Roshi’s eyes widened behind his dark shades, and he peered over his student’s shoulder to see a yellowish aura beginning to surround the wolfman. ”Xa--Xaph, look out..” “Huh..?” The android peered back over his shoulder to see that the beastman’s fur was starting to transform into a light brown hue and he was laughing confidently, now. ”Now you’ve done it.. I was holding back before, you’re stronger than his usual sorry excuses for students. But, I’ll crush you, all the same. You’ll see!” Finally, with one final burst of energy, the beast completed his transformation. He was larger in stature and the aura would remain around him as he now looked down at Xaphiel. Xaph’s internal scouters were going crazy, and the power level was bouncing around. However, it was definitely now more in league with his own. Maybe enough to actually push the android this go-around. “Man, you’re persistent, I’ll give you that! Well, you’ve got my attention, this time. If you insist… Let’s go!” -------------- WC: 1,151 TWC: 2,272 |

[dohtml]<iframe width="80" height="75" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rHeDiJCByj0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>[/dohtml] After watching his opponent power up, Xaphiel decided it might be best to take the initiative and go on the offensive first, before the wolf man would get the chance to real test out that new power on him. Although, he was sure the man knew the capabilities of his own power, Xaphiel was not so sure he could say the same about himself. This could possibly be the first test of his newfound limits and a stress test for his own body. Engulfing himself in his own light blue aura, he would power dash toward his opponent with his feet rapidly crashing into the gravel beneath them. After getting close enough, the charged up enough energy in his fist and thrusted it at this enemy, whom had seemed to have phased out of the way before Xaphiel had even realized. It looked as though his punch would go straight through the beast before the figure was gone entire, and the android’s fist instead would crash into the rather large rocky structure that the wolf man stood in front of. Upon impact, the rocks shattered entirely, sending debris flying all about and even causing Roshi to shield himself from it. The wolf man had appeared behind Xaphiel, still smirking before landing a crushing chop the back of the unaware Xaphiel’s neck and knocking him to the ground for a brief moment before he could recover. “Hng.. Damn..” The wolf man would then try stomping his foot down on to Xaph who would roll over to the side and try for a sweep which caught the beast. They had fallen but managed to catch themselves and flip back into an upright position before throwing a kick of their own and catching Xaph. The kick would thrust him back into an upright position, as well and from there, the two would continue to exchange blows. From what Xaphiel could tell, the beast’s power had still been continuing to climb, but was beginning to reach it’s peak as his scouter was indicating a slowing in the ascent of power. It still hadn’t matched his own, but it was definitely giving him a run for his money. From the sidelines, Roshi was still apparently observing very closely. It was almost as if he had some sort of wager on the match, the way he would wince whenever Xaphiel would take a critical blow. Didn’t look so much like a look of concern for his well being, but something else. Xaphiel shrugged it off, still attempting to focus on the task at hand. There was one thing he had going for himself that was a very distinct advantage. Neither the wolf guy, nor Roshi seemed to have any indication of it either. That advantage would be the fact that Xaphiel was not entirely human. He just would not tire in this bout. Being that his power already far exceeded that of his opponent, whether or not Xaphiel could completely tap into all of it yet, it was still enough to wear his opponent down just by keeping them both going at it for as long as it would take. He smirked with each exchanged blow, the latest to crack him in his nose and cause a trickle of blood to drip down. A sign that he still was at least partially organic. “...Not bad..” He murmured as the two backed down from each other. Both of the fighters looked a bit worn down. However, only one of them seemed to be having trouble catching their breath. Xaphiel noticed this and continued his grin, waiting for his opponents next move. He stood with arms out at his side, bringing his right wrist up to wipe away some of the blood from his nose. He would lick the rest that dripped down to his chin. The wolf man’s eyes widened in shock before their narrowed back down into a glare and he fell back into a fighting stance. Still breathing heavily, he uttered out, “Just what the hell are you, kid? You don’t seem even the slightest bit tired, and I’ve given you my worst!” Xaphiel laughed and began walking toward the wolf man who was beginning to pace backwards the closer the android got. “If that was your worst.. Well, then.. This is already over. It’s been fun.” Xaphiel knew this thing was in the bag. There was only one thing left to do. Push the envelope and crack his strength wide open. It was time to see how far down this well of energy really went. As he got closer, he began to gather energy into both palms. The light being emitted from them was extremely intense, nearly blinding if one were to look at them for too long. Electric surges would seem to crackle around each hand. The wolf man continued to back away in fear. Even on the sidelines, Roshi seemed a bit concerned. A massive contrast from the obvious look of glee from a moment ago. Now it was strictly worry written all over his face. But, worry for what? Wasn’t this guy holding him hostage? Didn’t he try to-- .. Xaphiel got within a couple feet now, and was preparing to long his energy blast directly into his opponent, who was now apparently frozen with fear. ”Wait, you got me, man.. ! By this point, Xaphiel felt like there was no turning back. He had to see what he could do. He had to be ready for when they would come. He had to-- ”Xaphiel, that’s enough.. ! Xaphiel halted immediately, his arms stretched out and ready to launch his attack. Almost instantly, the energy around his hands began to fade and die away. He could feel himself calming down and his opponent felt backwards into a seated position before letting out a sigh of relief. ”Thank goodness.. What’re you trying to do, kid? Kill me?” Confused, the android stood back upright and shook his head quickly to try to make some sense of any of this. “Wait, what..? What’s going on, Roshi?” The old man stepped forward and laughed a bit under his breath. “Hehe, congratulations, boy! You passed!” Xaphiel gasped, “Huh? What do you me--.. THAT was the trial?” Roshi nodded and motioned to the beaten wolfman who lay on the ground still trying to catch his breath. Roshi then tossed each of them a bottle of water. The beat wolf immediately began to down the entire thing, while Xaphiel still stood as confused as ever and watching him down it. He even tossed his own down to the man, not needing to drink any water himself. Surely he couldn’t just watch this guy die of thirst on the ground after such a hard fought battle. “So.. Just who are you then, wolfman?” Xaphiel asked him, hoping to get at least something that made sense around here. [dohtml]<iframe width="80" height="75" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rHeDiJCByj0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>[/dohtml] ”Actually, the name is Man-Wolf.. “ Of course, it was. Well, at least that did make sense. ”The old man here gave me a ring and told me that he needed someone to go up against one of his students. I almost wish I hadn’t answered. And I wouldn’t have if I’d known you were going to be that powerful. You pack some punch kid. I’m not even sure you broke a sweat..” Xaphiel nodded. “You were no pushover yourself.” Dusting himself off, he checked the time on his watch. It was starting to get late, it looked like they had been fighting for the majority of the day. It was no wonder the Man-Wolf was worn down. It really spoke to his resilience that he was able to even go that long. Such stamina was not found everyday. He then looked over to Roshi and had to ask. “So, what’s next?” ”Next.. ? Oh, right.. Here.” Roshi dug beneath his shell on his back and handed over what looked to be a badge or a patch. It read ‘Roshi’ in Kanji. “That’s yours. You are officially a graduate pupil of mine. Wear it well, Xaphiel.” Xaphiel took the badge and nodded with a grin. “I surely will. With pride.” He then began to walk away. “Suppose this will be it. I’ve got a world to protect, then. I will visit when I can.” Roshi looked on, as though he had always expected this day to come. The Earth’s fate now lie in this boy’s hands, and it was as if Roshi knew something that Xaphiel did not. Nodding, he waved. “Take care of yourself, Xaphiel. I know you’ll do me proud.” Xaphiel nodded, before bursting off into the air to take flight. -------- WC: 2,272 TWC: 3,734 |
