The din of the waves were interrupted only by the sound of passing birds and the occasional splash as someone was enjoying their time away from classes, swimming along the relatively empty coast waters with the warmth of the sun shining down upon him. His black hair and tail seemed to dance around his figure as he moved here and there under the water, surfacing only to take another breath before diving right back down. His task was both for recreation, relaxation, and of course, fetching something relatively tasty for a meal. Indeed, one of his favorite foods were fish, and he took personal delight in catching them just as much as actually eating them. Not too far from the shoal, a pail could be spotted, water sloshing around inside of it as the fish inside were trying to get used to their new--and cramped--living space, unknowingly awaiting their demise. Daji surfaced from the water once again, a flailing trout in his fangs trying to free itself. He looked around for another moment, checking first on where he had left his clothes and towel before checking up on his familiar friend on the beach. He waved to her once before grabbing the fish from his mouth--as if reminded of its presence by its persistent flaps--and tossing it into the bucket along with the others. A few more would do them just fine for dinner, he thought to himself before diving back under. He had insisted on diving into the ocean without those restrictive 'trunks' she had spoken about--and really, he needed all the dexterity he could muster to catch some of these slipperies--but he made sure to keep tabs on his clothes in case Hayami insisted he get dressed for one reason or another. They were alone on this beach, so he really didn't see much of a problem going without. He was far more comfortable in his own flesh than in those stuffy clothes. From afar, Hayami would feel a bit of panic from the boy's side of their connection before seeing him thrash about for a moment until he resurfaced, something attached to his ear. The orange crustacean had firmly clamped its big claw to Daji's left ear, causing the boy's opposite ear to flatten against his head for a moment as he tried to pry it from his head. With a bit of effort, it finally relented, allowing the boy to toss it into the bucket with the other things he had retrieved from the ocean. He wasn't really sure what it was, but maybe it was edible? He wasn't sure. "That one is strong--and tough!" the boy commented through their mind-link, unconsciously looking over towards Hayami for a moment, even though he didn't need to look at her in order to address her in conversation like this. It was still something of a force of habit for him, but even then, communicating with one another without speech or sound was becoming more and more second-nature to him--almost easier than just speaking the words aloud. He pushed another wave of warmth and affection towards her side of the link before diving back into the waves, ever the persistent hunter. However, at that moment, he heard something strange roar across the waves, causing the boy to surface and point his ears in the direction of the sound. It rang out like the waves of the water, louder, then quieter, then louder again, a siren of some kind that he could catch coming from further along the shore. He tilted his head to the side as he looked in that direction, wondering what the noise meant, before looking towards Hayami, curiosity and inquiry through their connection in an obvious question. She'd taken Daji here to have fun and play around in the water, maybe have some grilled fish or whatever other goodies Daji could fish out. She sat under an umbrella, in a bikini, though she wore a shirt over it for the time being. If she wanted to go swim later, she'd remove it, while she'd insist that Daji wear the trunks. The young Celestial current read a novella, which involved no martial arts, no sci-fi, just one of those garbage, silly, and raunchy romances that were a dime a dozen. To her, none of the men discribed were anywhere near Daji. After a moment, another fish flew towards the pail, which might have missed. She pushed the pail gently, as though a fish had harshly banged up against the pail and moved it, to catch the fish Daji had flung. With a small smile behind her book, the Ebony Fox wondered just how long this peaceful moment would- Daji suddenly had some trouble in the water and Hayami was about to get off the towel when she saw what had happened. The crustaceans made her giggle a bit as the Celestial watched her companion, soon to be husand and mate, struggle with a little crab. Soon enough, he had thrown the creature to the metal prison and commented through their link about how it was a tough opponent. ”That's true Daji, be careful when you are near the bottom,” Hayami replied as she suppressed her amusement through the link. She felt the swarmth and affection as she reinforced her own for him as her eyes went back to the novella, an intense moment now upon the work. ...Isabella took the hand of the man that she had slept with last night as he had turned away from her. “Marko!” She exclaimed, her hands a shaky mess as she held tightly to his larger, stronger hand. He squeezed her hand as though to ask her what was wrong. Isabella's eyes teared up as she confessed in a sloppy mess, “Marko, I've never felt anything for the others, only you! With you, I feel stronger, more like who I really am! Marko, please, don't leave back to America, I need you here...” She trailed off when the tanned Marko turned to her and shook his head slowly. Marko took her hands that trembeled so into both of his own as he turned to her, the helicopters blades that now spun not in either of their minds. “Isablla-” The siren caught Hayami just as she was about to read the response and she groaned in annoyance. She was just about to the good part, too. As Hayami turned to look at Daji, something caught in her senses. Life had started to fade away in the city, at a rapid pace. Not only that, but some seemed to suffer. But there was a larger problem- she felt a familiar ki there. Here eyes widened at the horror of the implication, and then narrowed as she growled, “Mundo...” Her head turned to Daji as she said hastily through their connection, “Daji, I want you to dry off and get dressed quickly. I have to go on ahead into the city, follow after me as quickly as you can. And if you hear or sense anything metal headed your way, avoid it at all costs.” The Celestial pushed off from the towel and into the air as she headed towards the city, as the smell of death, corpses, and fresh blood and meet exposed to the sun told her all she needed to know- Mundo was back, and this time, he would take a whole city with him.[dohtml] </div> <br> <div class='hayami-wc'> [/dohtml]Info: Telepathic Link, Combat Rune, Champ 1 || WC: 632 / 632 || Post: 1[dohtml] </div> </div> [/dohtml] |

It was hard to read her emotions this far away, considering how good she seemed to be at hiding certain things from him--not that he exactly knew what she was hiding, or even when she was. He was picking up on a few small tells here and there, things that would alert him to her mental distress or concern, and even though he didn't sense any immediate panic from her side, it was clear something was bothering her. He picked up on the sense shortly after Hayami began to, feeling the spirit power of the people in the nearby city start to fade away, some more rapidly than others. He had felt death with his expanded senses before--most creatures had their own level of spirit power, after all--but this seemed to be on a wholly different level. There was a strong grip inside of him, like the clenching of the heart and belly, that made his ears flatten against his head for a moment before he felt Hayami's presence again, her soundless voice encouraging him as it always did. He instinctually turned his head back towards her as she stood, taking in her message with perfect clarity. "Y--yes, Hayami, I'll get dried and dressed quickly," he said through their bond, immediately diving into the water like a shark as he sped towards the shore line, purposefully walking from the water and shaking his body off like a canine as she leaped into the air. He could not help but let his eyes follow her as she moved, but he managed to pull his eyes away from her stunning form in order to locate his towel and clothes. He often preferred to let the wind and sun dry him off, but in this case, he had to make an exception, grabbing onto the cloth and pressing it against as much of his flesh as he could until he was amicably dry. A few more moments would pass before he was dressed again, his usual pants and kilt around his waist, affixed with a strong sash that pressed his clothing to his body. Even as he finished dressing, tossing his towel next to Hayami's abandoned one, he could not help but reflect upon what she had said. Metal, he thought to himself, not altogether sure what she had meant by that. There were lots of things made of metal--most of which he hated the smell or sound of--so he was not sure if she meant anything made of metal or something very specific. He couldn't be sure. By this point, his eyesight couldn't quite pick out Hayami's form, as she had sped towards the nearby city with all due haste. There mental connection was still present as always, allowing him to locate her by instinct rather than by sight, so he used that sensation of her to track her down, taking to the air with a short sprint and flip into the air until his own ki caught him in mid-air, guiding him towards the city. He was getting a bit better at this whole flying thing, but the take off was still a little shakey. Thankfully, urgency lended his limbs much-needed confidence as the wind whipped around him as he pushed onward towards the port town as fast as he could muster in order to rejoin his friend and beloved. "Hayami--what is wrong? What's happened? Where did all the people go?" His mind asked as he closed the distance with the outer reaches of the town, the smell of rusting metal and salt water thick in the air as he tried to rejoin with his friend. All around, he could see people either laying on the ground or falling upon their faces and backs, all of their spirit energies draining away from them like jugs with holes in them. He wasn't sure if they were just naturally moving on to the next realm--the afterlife, Hayami had called it--or if something was draining their energy away from them. Either way, it wasn't exactly normal to see something like this. And whenever something not-normal, not-nice happened, he always had a bad feeling. It was a terrible thing to sense, let alone behold, as various people down below were falling down, some going unconscious, some groaning and gasping for air. Whatever it was that was doing this to these people, the young fox made it a point to keep himself protected, wrapping a sash around his face in order to keep himself from smelling more of the decay that was rising up from the sewers and streets. The boy's eyes widened as he made the connection, stretching his senses outward and down, pushing his perceptions as far as they could go until he felt the wall of his own limitations. Something was oozing a dark power from below the city, the sewage and water system apparently leaking the fumes to the roads and skies above it. Even with the sash around his face, he couldn't help but feel himself gag against the stentch, holding back the bile that tried to escape his stomach. He couldn't fathom what could be doing this--this was nothing like he had ever sensed or smelled before. His own keen sense of smell seemed to be a double-edged sword in this case, forcing him to rise higher above the city just to escape the scent of the permeating filth below, allowing him to be greeted by the ever-present salted sea nearby. The coast looked clean, save for a few rusting ships, so he didn't know if that was the source or... He squinted down towards the sea, seeing flashes of light down below amongst the ships and docks. He gasped again as he saw what the flashes were, the scales of slipperies down below floating at the top of the water as if they had been slain, their skins taking on a slimy, green-black tint as opposed to the rainbow-colored reflections they usually had. He couldn't help but feel his disgust rise even more, averting his gaze away from the gruesome sight down to the people below. Everyone was on the ground now, some clawing at their necks, while others were completely still--their energy had been taken from them completely. He couldn't help but feel the rush to evade and flee from this scene, but Hayami had been impressing upon him their duty to this world, to its people--and the more he trained with Muten Roshi, the bolder he felt when confronted with things he didn't understand. He certainly didn't understand what was going on here. Hayami seemed driven by some revelation, but he could not understand or fathom what it could be. He tied another sash around his mouth and nose, blocking out more of the scent in his environment as he started to descend down towards the buildings and roads towards the numerous people down below. He wasn't sure if he could even help--there was something about this whole situation that was unknown to him, leaving him helpless and lost. But he descended all the same, pushing downward until his feet lay against the asphalt beneath, his eyes taking in the sight from the ground level. The bodies just seemed to line the streets like carpets, the last gasps of air leaving the lungs of the unfortunate citizens. He continued to push his senses out, keeping an ear out for anything suspicious--as well as paying special attention to that kind of feeling Hayami had told him to be wary of. If she insisted he run from something like that, it must be something serious indeed. Hayami... they're... they're all dead... He spoke to her with their mental link, foreboding and trepidation thick in his side of the connection. Every fiber of his being was telling him to run as far away from this place as possible, but he kept himself rooted for the moment, trying to find out the source of the stench and death in the air. Thanks to the sashes around his face, he couldn't quite make out the scent coming from the sewers, but he wasn't sure how long that would last--he absolutely hated the stench of it. He started walking down the lane, daring not to check for survivors--he could feel any spiritual energy for that--but instead looking down at them with pity and fear in his eyes as he kept walking, noticing the smell was more potent as he neared the sewage drains and man-holes in the roads. This made him believe that something below the city was causing this--but he did not have the chance to explore that area, as he started to hear groans and moans of pain and agony. His ears perked up immediately in surprise, his eyes widening as he looked around at the people starting to get up from where they had been laying. He tried to contact Hayami again, but surprise and shock kept him from forming anything akin to a coherent thought. Were they alive? He couldn't sense their spirit energy, and as they stood and shuffled for a moment, it was clear they weren't truly conscious--something else was taking over these people in their still-living bodies. "What--what is this..." Daji whispered to himself as he started to back up away from the people, their shuffling corpses filling the air once again with the stench and smell of death, all of them approaching the young fox with something akin to a driven shuffle, their hands reaching up as if to grab the boy and drag him to the ground. He felt his back press against the wall of a buildling, and before he really had a moment to realize what was going on, he saw them close the distance. On instinct, rather than thought, he found himself scaling the wall of the building, his hands and feet digging into the mortar and brick of the structure until he managed to reach the top. The people below pressed themselves against the wall, reaching towards Daji as if they couldn't grasp or understand the distance between them. They're mindless, he thought, his connection echoing his thoughts and his rising panic. The walking corpses began to climb on top of one another in an attempt to scale the building, forcing Daji to back away from the edge of it and run across the roof towards an adjacent building, blocking their line of sight and, hopefully, their efforts of pursuing him. What was driving them to be this way, and like a lamp in the darkness, his mind started to fill with what little conscious thoughts that were still in their minds--not to mingle, to talk, to mate, or to work--their minds were filled with the singular, obsessive objective to slay and feed, to satisfy their appetites with the flesh of those that still lived. He felt his whole body shaking violently from all the latent surface thoughts, pushing them away from his mind like he had been taught back in that woodland temple--the place where he had learned to do such. "We have to stop this..." He said to himself, not sure if Hayami heard him or not, and already, he could hear--and feel--her struggling against the rising masses of the dead that were now pursuing them for their flesh and blood. He felt compelled to assist her, but she insisted he stay away--and that was when the young fox noticed the more powerful presence of death and decay near her, an overwhelming sensation of raw negative energy that surprised the fox. He felt himself fall to his backside, unable to tear his consciousness away from that infinite depth of death and madness. What was this feeling--this sensation? It was like an inevitability, but he managed to shake his head and block that presence as well. Whatever it was, it was controlling the waves of people down upon the streets and-- At that moment, waves of the dead had managed to scale the walls, burst through doors, shuffling or scrambling towards the sitting boy. He flipped to his feet, noticing the corpses reaching out towards him and pursuing him. He immediately lashed out towards the closest one, his kick knocking one citizen into three others, knocking them over and giving Daji a bit of room to maneuver, but with their numbers rising in the immediate area, he couldn't stay on the ground for long. He ran in the opposite direction, leaping off a building in order to catch the wind in his arms and fly above their heads to safety. The sewers--there was something down there that was causing all of this. While Hayami dealt with the more powerful entity near her, it was up to him to try and stop the valve that was causing all of this--provided he didn't succumb as well. He focused his chi upon his breathing, sifting out the toxic qualities in the air with each exhalation, using his personal energy to keep him healthy--just as Hayami had taught him. There was a lot she had taught him, and now, it seemed her training, as well as Master Roshi's, were going to be tested on this day. He knew he could do it--he just had to use his mind and training to find it. He looked down upon the ground below and spotted a man-hole in the middle of the street. Most of the people were gathering in two areas, which left certain portions of the street relatively vacant, but as soon as he went down into those tunnels, they would follow him down there--he would have to be fast if he was to evade pursuit, but by their movements, that didn't seem too much of a problem. He sent a bolt of energy from his palm down towards the street, blowing the entrance to the sewers apart, revealing a dark and shadowy ladder that led to the depths below. He flipped in mid air and controlled his descent, feeling the wind whip around him as he aimed the fall perfectly, using his energy to cushion his landing into a kneeling motion, his knees and hips absorbing the rest of the impact of the fall. Once there, he stretched out his mental senses once again, feeling the potency of the smell around him rather than letting his nose guide him. Regulating his breath as he was, he couldn't rely on his sense of smell to find the way--so he used the mind. The fox dashed down one side of the tunnels, his mind's eye guiding him as he felt the potency of the aroma that floated up to the streets above. The closer he drew, the more potent the scent--just like as if he were hunting an animal to cook and eat. Reflecting upon that now gave him an ill-sense of association with the creatures above, hearing their footsteps above as they closed in on the entrance Daji had created. He turned his head back towards where he had come from, hearing the shuffle of feet against the slimy waters. He raised his palm towards the ceiling before a flash of light collapsed the tunnel behind him, giving him a bit more time to find the source. "I have to be quick," he said quietly before continuing his journey down into the depths of the city. Rot and decay was growing in potency here, and the further he went, the stronger the aroma became. More than once, Daji felt his insides try to hurl their contents up his throat and into his mouth, but he kept suppressing the urge to vomit, pushing forward as much as he could until he came to a large, expansive junction. Within, there was a strange, giant vase with a black mist pouring from its top and feeding into the murky waters of the sewage system. He had never seen anything like it, and just looking at its construction and pristine shell made him realize it was sorely out of place. This had to be it! He raised a hand towards it, as if to destroy it, but Hayami was quick to note that neither of them had any idea what it would do--which meant they would have to come up with another plan. The seal! That was right... he could seal something in Ki and take it away from this place, somewhere safe--but where would something this destructive be safe? Hayami insisted they could figure it out later. With that, Daji concentrated his ki in a sphere around the device, closing off the energy around it to the point of relative self-sustainment. It was a weak barrier--anything could potentially puncture it--but it would be enough to keep the disease it bore from spreading and allow them to transport it to a safer place. With his mind, he focused his mental energies on lifting the device out of the sewer system, finally free of that wretched stench that permeated the winds of the city. "H--Hayami, I have it," Daji said aloud, though his mind link with her would transmit the words faster than he could speak them. With the device in hand, and the dark presence driven off, they were free to take the vile vase somewhere where it could do no one harm ever again...
