The hot summer sun beat down on the peak of Mt. Paozu, roasting the two Saiyans who were training there. In the yard of Goku's home, there he stood with a young Saiyan, Gaza. He was a ferocious competitor, but also had a warm heart. Goku couldn't help but be curious about the boy, what his story was and why he was like this. Saiyans were normally very cruel and ruthless, to see one with such compassion was strange. Gaza only explained that he was raised that way, but that just raised more questions than answers. His parents were both Saiyans too, so what exactly was going on there, Goku hadn't the slightest idea. "So, why do you train so hard, Mr. Goku?" Gaza asked, wiping his brow with a towel. He wasn't sure where the question came from, but was sure it had to do with Goku's quietness. The more silence that built up, the more Gaza got to thinking, and he'd blurt out these questions because of it. Rude or not, he'd ask. "Hm, I suppose that is a reasonable question. I guess probably the same reason you do," Goku smiled, giving Gaza a jab to the shoulder. He knew that wasn't a good enough answer for the kid, so he decided to elaborate, "It's pretty easy to find reasons to train. I mean look at the world around us. Even before I left my dimension I trained like this because you never know what's going to show up next and make you wish you'd worked more, and worked harder." "Yeah, I guess I understand that," Gaza said, smiling as he took a drink of water. It wasn't the whole truth, and he knew that there was something Goku was hiding, but he didn't want to be antagonistic about it. "I suppose Gelid is on your mind more now, but I think something happened that got you a little shaken up. I mean, you were never this serious, not even after Baba told us about this guy. You still laughed and had a good time the whole while we were training. Now it's like you've got a whole different problem on your mind. I know I probably won't understand what's going on, but I feel like I have to try." "Well, it's a bit complicated. Let's just say, that guy that beat me up, Beerus? He wasn't just some guy, he was a god. He helped me find out what happened in my dimension, and it wasn't good news." Goku said, throwing more punches into the thin air. He wasn't bothered at all by the questions, and actually was glad to be able to get this off his chest. It was hard keeping stuff to yourself, but it was harder sometimes to burden other people with your struggles. He supposed that Gaza of all people would understand, they'd really gotten close these last few months. "I see. That does make sense, I suppose. All things considered though, you're pretty lucky. I mean, if you're here that means you can still make a difference. That your dimension, whatever their fate was, you don't have to share it, you know? You escaped the fate, or maybe something helped you escape, but what does it matter. I think we should look at the important part. You're here, and we need you. Otherwise, this dimension could end up in just as bad shape as the one you came from." Gaza said, sort of shaking Goku out of his little self-pity party. He couldn't argue with the kid. He was so wise for his age, and his morals were all in the right place. Goku smiled and motioned for Gaza to throw him a towel. Baba told him that Gaza was going to be an integral part of what was going to happen, and for the first time Goku was starting to believe it. He wasn't the strongest person he'd ever met, but he certainly had a level head, and Goku needed that right now. It was good to have him around, and it was such a blessing that they'd met by accident. Though, the blow he'd given Goku to the head didn't exactly help with the memory loss thing. WC: 707 |

Goku and Gaza sat around a small fire in the yard, the sun getting lower on the horizon. The breeze had picked up a good bit, making the evening a bit more chilly than usual. They'd roasted a good number of fish, but with their appetites it was more than average fisherman brought in for a whole day at sea. Not to mention some of them were simply monstrous. Something about the environment on Mt. Paozu made it so that some animals just got gigantic. Goku didn't mind, he'd rather catch one big fish than a ton of smaller ones. Soft fits of wind tossed leaves and embers into the air. With their bellies full, Goku and Gaza sat in quiet contemplation. They both knew there was much more work to do before they were ready, but they were feeling good about their progress thus far. There was a stillness in the air as the sun fell behind the seam between the sky and the ground, revealing the wondrous sea of stars for the two Saiyans to observe. While both of them were probably thinking the same thing, they said nothing to each other. At that moment, they could feel him. Gelid. He was so far away, but still they could find his power. It's like he was broadcasting his existence to the universe. Like he'd just woken up and he wanted everyone to know about it. Goku frowned. If it wasn't for the distance between them, Goku would have no chance of preparing for this bout. He was thankful at least to have some time to prepare, but he couldn't help but fear it wouldn't be enough. He knew he couldn't think like that, the only thing he could do was work and hope he was going to be ready when the time came. Whether or not he would be, Goku would fight till his last breath.
