[dohtml] <div style="margin:0 auto; width:300px; background:black;"> <div class="drown">Location: Northern Mountains near North Capitol, Earth ─ Mission: Acquire Dragonball #3 </div> <div style="padding:20px; font-size:14px; font-family:times; text-align:justify; line-height:100%; color:#bbb;">[/dohtml]News travels fast. On Earth, there was trouble as usual. Humans had little self-control, and the state of their dying planet was proof of that. Unlike Hit and his species, humans had a way of making a bad situation worse, making it better, and then making it worse than before. They were forced to rely on a number of technological and magical means of temporary─if only because of their lack of self control─relief. Whether it be a newly invented machine to clean up the oceans, medicine to halt the progression of a fatal disease or magical dragonballs with which to wish for a miracle beyond the abilities of mere humans, they somehow still managed to find themselves in a mess that they created. The worst part was that their actions─or lack thereof, in some cases─affected those that sought refuge on Earth from their own home planets. How has this planet not been completely overrun by a stronger species? How have the androids not completely banded together for a takeover? Hm. Maybe they're waiting. Current events were a bit confusing to those just coming to the planet, but one thing remained as clear as always: the blame for the planet's problems was always put on "filthy aliens". Of course, it was the Saiyans this time. I want to get this over with and move on to the next job. Preferably far away from this planet. --- The ship that Hit borrowed from his current employer was safely docked under cover and between the center-most mountains near Dr. Gero's Laboratory. Thankfully, it was equipped with the best stealth programming he had ever seen. If anyone were to pay the assassin a surprise visit before he was out in the open and closer to his destination, it could only be due to his employer, and/or anyone he had trusted with Hit's mission. Still, no chances were to be taken, and anyone who decided to show themselves too close to the ship would be dealt with quickly and quietly. The assassin sat on a chair near the large ship's exit, expertly cleaning his energy rifle, energy pistol, bladed gauntlets, and finally, polishing a pair of pulse grenades. If he was going to encounter any obstacles, they would be handled with tools of destruction that were well taken care of. I'm told that I would be searching for a gift to give to the Cosmic Emperor. A dragonball that would give him power beyond anything I've ever seen. My payment wasn't made clear, though he said that I wouldn't be disappointed once I'm paid. The problem is, as far as he was concerned, is the possibility of rogue androids lurking around the lab. They were programmed to guard the lab and anything within a five-hundred-kilometer radius, which likely includes the dragonball. This "Butcher" will know what it's like to be butchered if he's setting me up. Then again, there was something about the spiky-haired, scar-faced, red headband wearing employer that gave Hit the impression that it would be a mission worth embarking on. If not for that gut feeling─an assassin always follows his gut─he would have told his employer to take the dragonball and shove it where it hurts. Risk versus reward was put to the back of his mind, so his focus was solely on getting the job done as only he could. After all, the man had gone all the way to Kanassa to meet Hit. Still, it never hurt to be cautious. I have his ship, so that's one thing I can use against him if things don't go as he says they will. I hope it doesn't come to that. I need to meet this... Chaos. Hit looked at the impressive ship's clock, noting that it would be half an hour before the sun would set. Might as well brush up on the happenings here. Again. He watched an old news video of Prince Vegeta arriving in Central City. The Saiyan Prince made an arrival that no one would forget anytime soon, and Hit thought that it was meant that way. See, I can't do that. I don't understand the need to show off like that. The hitman continued to watch the Saiyan Prince's arrival, making mental notes of everything he saw; everything from the faces of each guard, what they wore, what they carried, and the reactions of everyone they passed. They know what they're doing. The prince knows that he intimidates and outright scares the piss out of those politicians. Those mouth-breathers aren't warriors and don't know the first thing about what it takes to lead, but he does. Once the prince vanished from the view of the outside cameras, the large doors closed and the screen was filled with the face of an attractive human newswoman. "It appears that we may be seeing much more of the Saiyan Empire, folks," she said in as neutral a tone as she could muster. "This is Ivanna Humpalott for Fox News Channel Sixty-Nine, keeping you up to date on what matters most." Old news. Things have changed since then. At that, Hit turned off the screen and stood up. After a quick stretch, he put his green-lensed scouter over his left ear. His long, loose fit gray jacket was put over his Damaskian armor, which kept his weapons within easy reach. His bladed gauntlets were put on last. "I'm all set," he whispered to himself. It was time to go. Upon his exit, a quick scan of the environment alerted him to the presence of several androids within the vicinity whose power levels matched that of his own, but would randomly drop to about fifty percent of it. Fun. Hit suppressed his own power level low enough to avoid detection, and floated up between two boulders; a perfect spot to snipe a few of the androids and create a little chaos. There's a pattern. He pulled the energy rifle from his side and rested his back on one boulder, and his feet on the other. Pressing the butt of his weapon firmly against his shoulder, he took a quick breath and held it. Looking through the rifle's scope, he zeroed in on half a dozen androids patrolling nearest to his location. Two by two, they're walking three steps behind each other. The count is easy, but the unpredictable rise and fall of their power levels─along with their unknown overall functionality─could prove to be a major problem. A distraction would help. I could learn so much, and then eliminate them as necessary. Credit would be given to his spiky haired employer for what would come next. This might be be noisier than I'm used to, but I'm certain it will work as intended. If not, then... I go in and level the place. The alien assassin put his rifle back into its resting place on his hip and repositioned himself to sit on the ground between the two boulders. He crossed his legs and placed both of his hands out to his sides, palms up and fingers spread wide. Attention focused on his left hand, blue-violet aura slowly enveloped it. His power level barely spiked, still keeping his presence from alerting the army of androids below. Three small, pink orbs of energy filled his palm. Easy, easy now. Don't detonate yet. The same was done in his right hand, and without disturbing the half dozen highly explosive energy orbs, he floated several hundred feet in the air and once again scouted the area. Here goes nothing. Using the power of telekinesis earned during his time on the planet Kanassa, he strategically placed each explosive orb to cover the far half of the surrounding area in a half circle, keeping the upcoming explosions far from his position. Come on, take the bait in three, two, one... Boooom! Six small explosions went off simultaneously, though even together, they didn't carry enough force to crack a rock. Come on... Yes! The androids nearest to the detonation sites reacted as Hit hoped, turning their attention to the clouds of dirt and smoke behind them. In turn, the rest of the androids followed them and gave the assassin the time he needed to search for the dragonball. I need to be in and out before they realize that there's no real threat over there. I'm not sure how much time I have. As if some higher power had read his mind, he heard loud, electrical buzzing fill the area as he descended to the ground in front of the laboratory. Their power levels are dropping! He smirked and pressed the button on the side of his scouter to zero in on the dragonball's location. It's not here. A single beep from Hit's scouter gave him the location of the ancient ball. Not far from here, though. He moved east to a cluster of boulders that didn't appear to have been there naturally. They were lined up in ascending order from shortest to tallest, with the shortest at eye level with Hit, and the tallest at three times his height. In total, seven boulders separated Hit from the androids who would surely try to kill him. One more beep from his scouter gave away the dragonball's exact location. It was inside of the third boulder. Easy. Hit pointed his index finger an inch above where the dragonball was and cut through the boulder and around the ball with a narrow, concentrated beam of energy. Next, he used his telekinetic power to slide the chunk of rock from the boulder and tucked it under his left arm. The grinding of rock on rock was louder than expected when it moved, which gave the alien pause to listen and watch for the androids. There was nothing to hear besides short, intermittent buzzing. His scouter no longer registered other power levels in the area. I'll take what I can get. With that, the lucky assassin-thief vanished, leaving behind a hazy, slowly fading afterimage in his place. He reappeared in his borrowed ship, where his employer was waiting for him. "I didn't expect to see you again," Hit honestly stated. "You did well," replied the Cosmic Butcher. Hit put the chunk of rock on the floor and laser removed the dragonball. "Here it is. I thought it would be more challenging to retrieve it, but I can't say that I'm disappointed with the simplicity of the situation. Anyway, I'll clean up the mess." "Doesn't matter to me. This is your ship now, if you want it." "It is indeed a beauty. Is this part of my payment?" "A gift." "I don't accept gifts. However, I'm willing to accept this ship as payment for a future job, should you require my services again." "That's fine." Hit nodded. "Before I go, I feel that I should warn you." 'Warn me about what?" "He will test you. Don't hold back. He'll know." "Who? Chaos? Test me how?" The Cosmic Butcher grinned and vanished. I'll be ready. Hit took his new ship to orbit after cleaning up the dirt and rocks.
