Chishan had made a promise. And he fully intended on keeping it.

He had expected this trip might have gone a bit differently. Apio would be at his side, ready and eager to travel down to Earth to see their old friend. It would be like getting the old team back together; the trio that had traveled to many planets and gone on plenty of adventures reunited. And yet, the younger Saiyan had opted to stay behind if only to spend some time with Monica.

The Lightning Lord couldn’t help but laugh at that fact, if only a little. Ever since Christmas, Monica and Apio had been pretty inseparable. Though they were fairly good at not throwing public displays of affection everywhere, they did spend a lot of time alone in each other’s rooms. Apparently over a year of attraction can really get people pent up.

But he didn’t have time to think about that now. The door to his room slid open as he entered it, his mind set on what he wanted to grab. But mostly he wanted to change out of his official wear and into something a bit more comfortable. He was seeing his old friend again after such a long time; he’d rather not look like some military official come calling.

He changed out of his commander’s outfit and slid on a loose blue button down, buttoned up to the collar. Add a pair of jeans and boots to that and he looked like a regular joe once more. He made sure to pull the back of his pants up, to ensure he had maximum room for his tail wrapped around his leg. Maybe someday he would care enough to cut holes into his pants so his tail could be free. But not anytime soon; he’d rather not draw too much attention to himself. And despite Saiyans being fairly common place on Earth nowadays, he didn’t want passersby whispering and watching him. It wouldn’t take them long to figure out who he was.

With all of that said and done, grabbed his jacket and snaked his arms into the sleeves. Though he would be comfortable in just the shirt, he went the need to at least try and match. Cold weather had never been a problem for the Saiyan Inferno, his skin and muscles used to punishment from training. Satisfied with how he looked, he let his senses spread down to the world below, seeking out the Saiyaness.

It took him a bit to find her, as he wasn’t as attuned to her ki signature as he used to be. But when he did, a small smile came to his face as he locked onto it. A moment later, he was appearing in the hallway of an apartment building. He blinked in slight surprise, his brow furrowing as he turned his head to look down each end of the hall. One small thing that didn’t come with Instant Transmission was the ability to see where the person you were locking onto was. He expected to find her at Roshi’s or possible even working. She had mentioned having a full time job and such.

But an apartment? She did have a ship the last he recalled. His lips twisted in confusion before he shrugged. Maybe she had a place away from the ship, a place that felt more like home. He wished he could say that’s what the abode on Damaskia was, though that felt more like a base of operations than anything else. The idea of having an apartment like this...well, it wasn’t for him. It was like thinking about the possibility of retiring or settling down someday. Given how he lived his life, such amenities didn’t really fall within the realm of possibility. He had a better chance of dying somewhere in the galaxy while trying to save a person than dying of old age.

But these were depressing thoughts and not meant for this moment. He was finally going to see Levana outside of the astral realm for the first time in a long time. The thought renewed his smile and he brought his hand up to rap on the door three times, hoping to get her attention. “We have a delivery for a Miss Levana!” He called out, not even bothering to disguise his voice.

[A couple of days after the battle with Lilim]

Levana was walking around the apartment barefooted, while wearing a casual training pants and a colourful shirt, with her long white hair wrapped up in a rather sloppy dot. Probably not her most flattering attire, but she wasn’t planning to go anywhere today and neither was she expected any visitors, so it didn’t matter that much.

It was only just past lunchtime, but she couldn’t help to start yawning already. She had still trouble sleeping, ever since that weird encounter with that Demoness. Levana was still not sure if it had been real or not. There was no proving that this creature had actually been there, probably it was just a very very bad nightmare, but it had felt so damn real. Either way, it had been several days now and she could tell that things slowly got better again, but at some moments, when she least expected it, some images of that night flashed before her eyes again or woke her up in the middle of the night.

Tomorrow she was supposed to start a new project at Satan City Enterprise though and Serah already told her that it would be a busy couple of weeks, so Levana was sure she would feel much better once she got occupied with other things again. It was a pity, that her gravity chamber broke down again and it just was pointless to invest extra money and parts in it. Maybe she had to find Azrael again, some time ago he did mention that she could have his ship, since he bought a new one. Where was that Celestial anyway? She hadn’t seen him in weeks, ever since that task they did together with Kranzer and doctor Briefs. Kranzer… another guy she didn’t see anymore since that. They had only met that one time, but he had been bold enough to ask her out for dinner and in a crazy mood she was happy to expect even. It would be good for her to get out a bit more, do stuff ‘normal’ people do and he was quite good looking too. But yeah, unfortunately she didn’t hear from him anymore.

Levana sat down on the couch again and pulled her legs up underneath her, while grabbing the remote control from the little coffee table. Mimi said there were hundreds of movies and soap series she could download to kill time, so she decided to give it a shot. The feline girl turned on the tv and started to scroll down the menu.

“Now, lets see…” she said to herself, “Movie or series? Movie….Choose category… Drama? No. Comedy? Nope. Romance? Definitely not. Science fiction? Hmm, maybe. Adult? Eum, no thanks…”

She finally decided to go for something in the category “Adventure movie”, whatever that was supposed to mean.

“Wow, two hundred fifteen hits, this can take a while,” she sighed. She had no clue what she was looking for though and she didn’t feel like reading the short description of all of them, maybe she just had to chose one randomly and hope for the best.

Suddenly a powerful and very familiar ki signature appeared outside of the apartment, down the hallway. There could be no mistake whatsoever, that was Chishan. Even before he knocked she jumped up and walked to the front door. Last time they met in the astral realm he did mention he was coming to Earth and promised to meet with her, but she hadn’t expected him already. And she had also kind of assumed that he would contact her first and that they would meet somewhere, like his new ship, she didn’t think he would just appear on her doorstep unannounced. She was excited to see him again though; the only thing made her feel just a little sad was when she noticed that he was alone. There was no other ki signature there, meaning Apio did not come with him to greet her. She wondered if he was mad at her or something.

Levana already pulled open the door the moment he was still knocking and she started to laugh immediately when he joked about delivering something.

“Hey chishan! You’re here already! Come in,” she greeted with a big smile and gestured him to step inside, “I didn’t expect you so soon, but I’m happy to see you.”

She looked him up and down for a moment and laughed again, “Well, you almost look human like that, the casual look suits you,” she continued while walking back to the living room, “You want to drink something? And tell me what brings you to Earth?”

The minute his knuckles left the door, it opened and revealed the smiling face of his friend. If his smile was bright before, it was absolutely shining now at the sight of her before him. It was true that he had only seen her a few weeks back in the astral realm and that dimension made a person look as real as anything else. But he knew the difference and seeing her, in the flesh…he couldn’t properly describe it.

He stepped inside but only to wrap her up in a bear hug, practically tearing her off the ground and spinning her around once. All the worries and trepidation that had been temporarily making home in his mind were gone and replaced with elation. He set her back down and took a small step back, if only to look her up and down just like she did to him. “If only I could pull off human.” He said with a cheeky grin, placing his hands on his hips. “But you look terrific.” Despite her rather humdrum getup, she was still Levana and she was still smiling. That was enough for him.

“Well, if you have water that’d be great.” He accepted her offer with a nod. He peeled his gaze off of her only to look about the room he had entered. A small living room to be sure but cozy nonetheless. He glanced at the television that was on, highlighting a multitude of different movies. Apparently Levana had selected the ‘Adventure’ genre as hundreds of titles paneled themselves across the screen. It seemed he had interrupted a rather laid back day. Leave it to him to do such a thing.

“This is a nice place you have here.” He said, following her wherever she went. Assumingly she would fetch water from the kitchen and he trailed behind her. It had been far too long since he’d truly been this close to the Saiyaness and he wasn’t about to just stand around and let her leave his sight. Despite their recent catching up session, he still wanted to hear everything about her. And now that he knew she was in this apartment as well, he had questions about the home and her work and all sorts of things.

“Well I came here for a number of reasons actually.” He said, his smile finally beginning to soften a level. “Obviously I wanted to come see you again and I did promise you I would come by. But I actually went to a Christmas festival a couple of days ago with Apio and Monica and Agatha.” It took him a beat to realize that Levana didn’t even know who Agatha was. “Agatha is the…she’s my friend I mentioned the last time we talked. She was partially raised by a gypsy tribe and they gather together for a winter festival, which she invited us to. It was a lot of fun; definitely the first positive experience I’ve had with the holiday.”

“I also need to get the brand analyzed. I know someone that is fairly involved with the science and I’m hoping she’ll be able to get some real answers for me. I’ve had no luck on my own.” He said, giving said brand a pat over his shirt. “But what about you? Here I thought you lived on your ship and you’re here in an apartment. How very…mainstream.” He said with a teasing smirk.

Levana actually giggled when he lifted her up from the ground and spun her around. She couldn’t even remember when she had giggled like a little girl like that, but it felt good.

“Crazy Saiyan,” she smiled and briefly rolled her eyes when he mentioned she looked terrific, she knew she did not, but yeah, one doesn’t get all dressed up to meet your brother normally. With all the time they travelled together, he had seen her right-out-of-bed look zillion times before and worse probably too. She didn’t mind, she felt comfortable enough around him. She thought that it might be a bit more awkward after all that time, but now he was finally here it almost felt like he never left and nothing had changed. Though she would not go that far to walk around naked around him or Apio, but she wouldn’t do that with her real twin brother either.

She briefly nodded when he mentioned wanting some water and she walked back to the kitchen to get it. Halfway she looked over her shoulder and grinned and gave him a goofy look, as he seemed to be on her heels quite literally.

“Oh… that sounds nice,” she smiled when he told her enthusiastically about this Christmas festival he had been to here on Earth, together Apio, Monica and his new girl, Agatha. Just the four of them, how cozy. Again an ache of jealousy shot through her heart, she just really hoped her friend wouldn’t notice, “Yeah, Christmas here can get a bit too much.”

After all those years on Earth it was still not something she liked to celebrate, so most years she just didn’t. She got invited this year though, by both Serah and Mimi to celebrate together with their families. But she didn’t go, the whole celebration felt a bit fake to her, maybe it was just because she was not used to the tradition.

She took out two glasses from the cupboard, filled one with water and gave it to Chishan and filled the other one with juice for herself.

“The apartment is not mine, It’s Mimis. You remember her? Mimi Black with the pink hair?,” she started to explain and took a sip from her drink, “I just moved in with her, literally three days ago. Before I still lived on my ship. It is in pretty bad shape though, well good enough to live here, but totally not good anymore to train or travel.”

She picked up the glass again and walked back to the living room and nodded at her friend to follow and sat down again on the couch while she switched of the tv.

“Mimi thought I needed the company, that I was getting lonely or something,” Levana grinned, “I actually think she is the one who liked to have a roommate. She broke up with her boyfriend like half a year ago, but it’s still pretty hard on her.”

She paused for a moment to think about it and then smiled again, “Probably we are doing each other a favour”, she had to admit, “But now she is away for a long weekend to visit her parents in the South… I’m actually looking after the fish and the ferret.”

The feline girl drunk the last part of her juice and put the empty glass back on the little table, “What is this brand you are talking about actually? And when do I get to meet your new girl? I’d like to see Apio again too, last time we didn’t really have time to talk...”

“Yeah, I’ve noticed.” Chishan said of her insinuation about Christmas. His smile softened a bit as she handed him the glass of water. “But it was…nice.” He paused for a moment as he allowed himself to open a little in the sadness in his heart. “Monica was taken on Christmas day, two years ago. So since then, it’s really only held this kind of…darkness about it for me. But I wanted to try and move past that, if only a bit. And actually focusing on the celebration rather than the past helped that.” He admitted, taking a soft sip of his water.

Mimi. His brow furrowed as he tried to remember her. The explanation of how she looked help a bit but he still couldn’t directly recall what she looked like. “I can’t say that I do. It’s been awhile since I’ve been on Earth and I’ve had so many new meetings lately.” He admitted bashfully, rubbing the back of his head. “She must be nice though, if you’ve moved in with her. Though three days…” He looked around the kitchen. “And you’re already walking around barefoot and looking like you’re taking a lazy day. Didn’t take you long to get comfortable, did it?” He commented with a smirk.

She walked back towards the living room and he followed after her, holding the glass in his hand. She plopped back down onto the couch as he continued to stand, moving around the furniture piece so that he could still talk to her directly. He continued to eye the apartment as she spoke about her reasons for moving in. It caused him to pull his attention back Levana, albeit with a bit of sadness. Though she made light of it, he knew that she must have felt a little lonely. He knew he would have.

“Well, it’s a good thing for you both then.” He said with a smile, taking another sip of his water. He hadn’t realized how large of gulps he was taking until the tail of the liquid ran down his throat, leaving him with nothing else to drink. “Fish and a ferret. Well that sounds…fun?” He asked with a questioning look, laughing a bit. He’d never personally had a pet so he didn’t know if it was considered a fun activity or more of a chore.

New girl. If he still had the water in his throat, he might have choked on it. “She’s not my new girl. She’s just a friend.” He explained once more, buying into his own denial without a second thought. He gave her a pointed look before he smiled. “You’ll meet her at some point, I’m sure. As for Apio…” His mind wandered to the younger Saiyan, currently spending time with Monica. No doubt his brother would want to see Levana again, though it may take him a day or two to pry himself free of the former assassin. “You’ll see Apio again soon. I’ll be sure to mention I saw you and he’ll be asking me to bring him to you soon.”

“The brand is…well…” Chishan set the glass down on the table in front of the couch and straightened himself out. His hands went to his shirt, undoing the buttons rather quickly before it popped open. With jacket still on, he pushed the left side of his clothes up so that the dark tattoo could be seen, just over his ribcage. “That wish over the Super Saiyan God? It came with a permanent mark to remind me of it. Apparently it is also some kind of storage for the Godly ki that I’ve acquired.” He let her look at it for a moment longer before he dropped the clothing.

With a sigh he fell onto the couch. He hadn’t bothered to rebutton the shirt, as it was most likely he didn’t even think about it, and looked over at her. “What I wouldn’t give to have a nice place like this.” He said with an encouraging smile.

Levana only nodded when he explained why Christmas wasn’t exactly a time with happy memories for him, she decided to not go into it further though unless he would want to talk about it.

“Oh,” was the only thing she said, when he mentioned that she got already quite comfortable after three days. And she actually thought about it for a moment while she looked down at her feet and then looked around the room. Was she getting too comfortable? She still believed that she was doing Mimi a favour. It wasn’t like she would stay on Earth for good and get an apartment of her own, right? Or would she?

“I dunno, she is pretty easy going and I’ve been here a couple of times before to take care of the pets. It’s only temporary, until I have my new ship and I can start traveling again…” she answered casually, but maybe not as convinced as she wanted to sound.

Levana shrugged when he asked about the pets, “I’m not in favour to keep animals in a cage, but I can understand why humans like the company.”

When the subject came back to Agatha the full blood Saiyan got actually uncomfortable again. She knew him damn well enough by know to notice that he was trying to avoid the subject, she just wondered why. He also kept explaining that she was ‘just a friend’, but the way he talked about her, last time in the realm, made her understand that she was definitely not ‘just a friend’.

“It’s me, Chishan, remember, “ she answered a bit more annoyed than she intended, but when he found her back they promised to be honest and still she felt like he was keeping things for her. It even seemed like he didn’t really want them to meet each other “Why are you acting so weird when the subject comes back to her? And don’t try to deny it.”

As expected he rather quickly changed the subject again and started to explain about that brand, admitted she did ask about it of course. Her eyes widened in curiosity and she quickly changed seat, so she sat down next to the full blood Saiyan and gently ran her finger over the mark before he pulled his shirt back down. It was very smooth though, I didn’t feel like a tattoo or something. “It looks good though, nice design, it could have been worse I guess,” she smiled.

She walked back around the little table to sit at her original spot, across her friend, and pulled her legs up underneath her like she tended to do. When he made a remark about wanting a place like this, she started to laugh and shook her head, “You can’t handle a normal life, Lightning Lord. I think even I can’t. At the end of the day we are still warriors.”

The feline girl was actually surprised by her own words, it was probably one of the few times she would admit her true nature, even to herself. The thought made her remarkable calm and she smiled, but only for a moment before her face turn more serious than it had been since he arrived there.

“I’m glad you came to see me so soon, something… weird happened last week and I wanted to contact you about it, but then… something came up…” she started of and then paused a moment to clear her throat before she continued, “I saw Mino, or someone who claims to be Mino at least, he was nothing like the guy we used to know… He said some ‘disturbing’ things.”

Chishan couldn’t help but laugh outright. “Look at this. We’re literally two aliens, sitting in the home of a human and talking so casually about our lives. This is like some kind of sitcom.” He could envision the audience sitting where the wall should be, laughing as Levana and him cracked wise at one another. The sheer insanity of their situation was brilliant on so many levels.

The Saiyaness seemed keen on pushing the subject of Agatha. Try as he might, his oldest friend was convinced the gypsy was on some level he wasn’t letting on. And to a point, she was. Agatha was his best friend; someone he knew he could rely on for everything. So why was it so hard to just say that? The walls in his heart gave a heavy lurch but he ignored them with practiced ease. Instead, he met Levana’s gaze. “She is a friend, Lev. But you’re right, there is something else going on. We sleep with each occasionally.” If by occasionally he meant a healthy amount. “But more than that, she’s one of the closest friends I’ve had since you guys. You and Pan and Rubic and Mino. I have a trust in her that’s been gone for a long time. Part of the reason I reached out to you is because she reminded me how important my relationships are and how strong they make me.”

He scratched the back of his head. “Sorry. I didn’t want you to feel like I was lying to you. When it comes down to it though, we’re simply friends. There are just…added benefits.” His lips pulled back in a half-sly, half-bashful grin.

She commented on the brand as she ran her finger over it, smiling softly as he chuckled. “Yeah, I suppose. I think it would have been nice if I was alerted to the fact I was getting inked but alas.” He sat himself and listened to her laugh at his wanting a place like this, which only prompted him to chuckle along with her. “Hey, a man can dream. Truth is sometimes I wish I could go back and change a few things. Maybe settle down somewhere nice and quiet, away from dangerous aliens and robots.” He leaned back against the couch, crossing his hands behind his head.

His sense of relaxation quickly came to an end as Levana brought up Minosha. His eyes widened a bit and the grin that had played across his mouth seemed to melt away. He leaned forward towards her, his hands clasping one another over his knees. “Tell me everything he said, Levana. Don’t spare a single detail.”

“A sitcom?” she smiled, “Guess we do look kind of goofy here and we had enough drama for sure to fill multiple seasons.”

As he continued, her smile slowly faded and her eyes widened just a bit in surprise. Friends with benefits. Now that was actually NOT what she expected from her old friend. A girlfriend yes, even a fiancée maybe, but not this. But she just had to keep pushing for the truth eh, well now she got it.

She quietly stared at the full blood Saiyan for a moment and then started to laugh, “Seems you can still surprise me after all… I would never have expected that,” she paused and kept looking at Chishan, she kind of understood now why he did not tell her from the beginning. It wasn’t something to be ashamed for, but still they were not the kind of people to go into detail about such things, “Maybe I’m just old-fashioned with that kind of things or prude. I’ll stop asking about it, haha, but then I’m glad she made you come back to me in some way.’

Levana couldn’t help but to stay with her first conclusions though, the way he spoke about this Agatha suggested that for him there was more than just ‘the benefits’, even if he was not ready to admit it already. She just hoped that the girl would not break his heart.

The feline girl nodded in agreement again when he talked about his ‘dream’ to settle down far away from danger, “Oh, I definitely understand what you mean, believe me. I think I’m the one struggling the most with the whole being a hero/saver thing for the last couple of years, more than you, Apio, Pan or Mino I imagine. I tried to leave it behind me when I returned form Frieza to Earth, but that didn’t really work out so far, even if I’m living like a human now,” she laughed again, “But if we can face those things together, maybe it isn’t that bad.”

His reaction about Mino came as a slight surprise to her actually, she imagined he would have been excited at first when she mentioned Minosha, but he clearly was not. She could see and feel the tension. “You know something about this, don’t you?” she asked before she started to explain her story.

She told him about a guy showing up who looked like a Saiyan and claimed to be Areleh. How he kept insisting to talk to her and have a coffee, how he talked about Chishan even and that she felt that something was off. How she finally agreed to go with him and kept interrogating him, hoping to find out the truth. The truth however turned out to be uglier than the lie in this case.

“He called himself Maker, but he looks so much like Minosha, just a bit older maybe. I’m still not sure who he is, his lies make it hard to figure out what is true and what not. If he is some weird, twisted version of our friend from another dimension or if he just took on his appearance to shock me some more. He did say that Mino is dead, Chishan… even that he died a painful death… of course that could also just have been to try to torment me, but he also said that his ‘essence and memories’ were still there, like this guy took over his body?”

Levana knew how it must have sounded, totally insane, cause it had sounded like that to her too, it still did. She remained silent for a moment while she thought things through and to give the full blood Saiyan a bit of time to process the first part of the story. She then continued to tell that he was actually after Chishan.

“He claimed he is looking for you, to guide you down the right path, otherwise… you will die and everyone you care about,” she repeated Makers words.

Competing forces of time and space had been sent into flux with the sheer amount of people traveling back in time as of late. Fractures in the one pristine wall between realms had begun to spread and web out everywhere, creating openings to dimensions and timelines that would generally be left secluded. And one particular world had been cracked like an egg shell, the doorway between it and the current timeline opening slowly. There was no telling who or what would come from such a break.

- -

It was safe to say that Chishan didn’t consider the whole friends with benefits thing as taboo as Levana clearly did. Perhaps a few months ago he might have but now it seemed easy enough to understand. Agatha and he were friends, best friends of course, that happened to sleep with one another from time to time. Despite the fact that time to time was actually more frequently than he cared to admit out loud. But somewhere deep inside he knew that.

He waved off her assumption about being old-fashioned. “It is what it is. We ran into each other on Toffit, dealt with some demons and ended up…well, getting together. And when we worked together on Mortoseth, I began to understand how good of a friend she was. It’s very casual.” It was about all the detail he was willing to into with Levana. Her surprise had been sign enough that getting too in depth might be a bit weird, even if they were old friends.

“Together is always better.” He said with a kind smile. He’d meant his words when he said he wanted to spend more time with the Saiyaness. They had spent so much time apart and still had a ton to catch up on, even through their two meetings from the astral realm. “Besides…living like a human is not so bad. Though I can’t imagine you’re mistaken for a human with those ears of yours.” He teased with a smirk.

The time for friendliness seemed to melt away though as the subject turned to the darker side; Minosha. As she asked him if he knew about this, he simply nodded. “Tell me what happened first. Then I’ll explain.” He needed to hear her experience in addition to the things that Agatha had told him. It was important.

Apparently Mino had the ability to disguise himself, taking the form of another. Areleh was a very old name, one of the half-Saiyan man that Starrk had left him in charge of. Areleh had disappeared after some months, journeying out into the galaxy and never being heard from again. Chishan had searched for him for some time, along with his other allies that had seemingly left as well. But unfortunately he had never found any trace.

But Minosha…he didn’t seem to be himself. He had told Levana he was called Maker, despite looking like an older version of the Konatsian. The news that Mino had died would have shocked him more if Iofiel hadn’t already revealed that to him on Mortoseth. He seemed transfixed on Levana as she told her story, leaving no detail left out so that he could get the full picture.

So Mino was looking for him. Iofiel had conveniently left that part out, most likely the section that he was not allowed to hear. The more he heard of it, the more he wanted to believe that it was some twisted, wretched version of his former friends. But based on the celestial’s words from before, it didn’t sound like it. Tying that together with what Agatha had told him…

“I had an angel visit me on Mortoseth. She claimed to be a…Hand of Fate. She told me that she was tasked with making sure people stayed on their right destiny lines or something grand like that. She mentioned Minosha, said he had been resurrected by some unknown force and that I had to find some way to stop him.” He revealed to his friend, rising from his seat as he spoke. He crossed over to the doorway, his arms folded over his chest.

“Agatha also encountered him. He seemed to ramble about a possible future meeting between her and me and then tried to deceive her about his name, claiming to be his older brother Tapion. She also has an ability to be able to watch him, keeping an eye on what he does. So far she hasn’t seen much…” He said, his mind suddenly drifting. He’d have to ask Agatha if she had seen anything recently or even managed to see this meeting between Levana and Minosha.

“Either way…this sounds like trouble.” He said, turning to look at her. “I know he’s here and your story backs that up. I’ll have to find some way to locate him or to draw him out. Maybe I-…”

He felt his body tug backwards, much like it would if the astral realm was trying to spit him out. His brow furrowed and he paused mid-sentence, turning his head slightly to look over his shoulder. Nothing was behind him…that was odd. He stared at the wall for another moment before he turned his gaze back to her, his confusion obvious.

“Did you fe-…” Before he could finish, he was swallowed up in a bright light. His body stiffened and the air rushed around him as he was suddenly lifted from the floor and rocketed into the air. Where he should have hit the ceiling he did not, rather continuing to fly up like he was heading into space.

The transfer was quick and painless to the world around Chishan. It was as quick as someone turning the light on and then off. But in Levana’s apartment, when the light faded, a very different looking Chishan now stood. He was slightly smaller in terms of build, though still more muscular than the normal man. He had on a white button up shirt that was covered by a blue vest that hugged a tie to his chest. Long dress pants ran down to cover his dress shoes. The man blinked, reaching up to adjust his glasses and settle them on the bridge of his nose. The more glaring difference between them was the fact that this Chishan, this…new Chishan was not a Super Saiyan.

His gaze shifted to Levana. “Uh…hun, what just happened?”

Meanwhile Chishan, the real Chishan, blinked to clear the haziness from his eyes. “What the hell…?” He grumbled as he reached up and rubbed his eyes clear. He was standing in some kind of office, a brown desk set right in front of him. Papers covered the top, full of menial details that he couldn’t be bothered to care about at that time. He twisted around, seeing the dozens of bookcases full of literature that lined the walls. His eyes were wide now as he glanced around.

“Uh…Levana?”

Levana just nodded at his last remark about the whole situation, it seemed better that they didn’t continue that part of the conversation for now. She wondered if she had been overreacting, it was his business who he wanted to sleep with after all, she had just been surprised. Did she just make things more awkward between them again?

The feline girl was still slightly distracted when he made a joke about her cat-ears that really did NOT look human. She offered him a little smile, but then ignored the comment, suddenly she wasn’t really in the mood for jokes and teased.

Luckily the subject quickly changed to Minosha, though it wasn’t exactly a more pleasant topic to talk about, considering what happened. Again to her surprise he seemed to know already much more than she expected. When she finished her story about her meeting with the Konatsu, she quietly listened to his part and frowned her brows a bit. Hand of Fate? Well, the story seemed to become weirder than it already was, but the ‘resurrection’ fitted rather perfectly with some things Maker had mentioned about Mino.

“What do you mean, she is able to watch him?” Levana asked curiously when he told about Agatha’s meeting with Maker and agreed that this guy, whoever he was, definitely meant trouble.

“I spend some time talking with him, I sensed his energy, It is partially the same as Mino’s… I think I can find him, if he is not suppressing,” she continued as an answer to Chishans remark about locating that evil version of their friend, “On the other hand, he was very eager to find to you, so he might come to you faster than you’d like I’m afraid.”

The Saiyaness looked up at Chishan and slightly frowned again, when he paused in the middle of his sentence and looked over his shoulder, “What is wrong?” she asked and also stared at the wall behind him for a moment, trying to see what he saw or heard, but there was nothing there. He definitely looked confused though.

A moment later a bright light flash filled up the room, only for a split second though. It was short enough to make you wonder if it had actually happened or not. She knew something was wrong here though and she automatically jumped up from the couch, while she had to blink her eyes few times to adjust to the sudden difference in light.

She was about to make a remark about it, but when she looked back at Chishan her words got stuck in her throat and she just stared. Seeing her friend all dressed up like that in a suit and even with glasses might have been pretty funny if it hadn’t been weird first.

“Eum, I don’t know… there was a bright light and…” she replied confused and then a small, nervous smile curled on her lips, “You’re joking, right? You are just pulling a prank on me and Apio is around here somewhere too, no?”

She hoped from the bottom of her heart that this was some weird prank indeed, though she knew that he was not joking, definitely not considering the serious conversation they were just having less than a minute ago. So what the hell just happened?

In the meantime in the office, an older looking lady with dark hair and a suit stared at the real Chishan, while standing in front of his desk. She only looked him up and down for a second and then looked back down to the file in her hand.
She must have noticed that her boss was wearing a different outfit than when he came in that morning, but she was professional enough to not say anything about it, it was none of her business anyway.

“Yes, sir, your wife called while you were in the meeting, she left a messages on line two,” the lady answered to his question about Levana, before she handed him the papers, “This is the original file you requested, sir, unfortunately we could not delay the next meeting, the deadline is tomorrow morning at 9 am.”

And with that the woman briefly nodded before turning around and walking out of the office, leaving Chishan behind.

If he would listen to the message on line two, he would clearly recognize Levana’s voice saying, “Hey honey, I hope your meeting went well. Can you pick up the groceries on your way home? I already placed the order. Thanks Hun, we miss you, love you.”

The alternate Chishan looked around the apartment, completely surprised at the new surroundings. “A bright light…” He trailed off as he walked around the space, admiring each part. In truth, none of it was that farfetched from his own time and place so he didn’t feel any worry over if he had been brought to a new realm. In fact, getting teleported out of his office, while rare, did happen from time to time. Apio often liked to whisk him off whenever he came around, to visit for the day. Though this had felt a bit different than normal…maybe Apio was just getting stronger.

Yet his brother was nowhere to be seen. He looked back to Levana as the gears in his head began to work. She thought this was a prank, something he had pulled with Apio? As he began to work out the details, a small smile came across his face.

“Oh of course!” He said, snapping his fingers. “That sly jerk. I was telling him the last time he came around that we never got time with one another anymore, just the two of us. What with the kids and the work, we’ve rarely gotten any personal time. This must be his way of trying to give us some privacy.” He shook his head and laughed. “And he must have bought this apartment for the weekend. This must be a gift!” Oh yes, it all made sense now.

He smiled down at Levana and crossed over to sit on the couch next to her, draping his arm over her shoulder. “This is awfully nice of him, giving us some time to be together. I feel like I haven’t really talked to you in ages.” He looked her over carefully, a sly smile on his face. “Did you already get comfortable? I don’t think I’ve seen you wear clothes like this in forever.” He laughed. “Well I guess I better find some comfy clothes then as well. Knowing Apio he’s already packed clothes for me. I’ll be right back.” Before he got up, he reached up to cup her face and leaned in, kissing her gently on the lips.

Then he stood and moved around her, walking towards the hallway to seek out the supposed prepared clothes.

-

In the alternate universe, Chishan had barely come out of his shock when an older woman spoke up, catching his attention. He looked her over, his eyes wide in curiosity and shock as she rambled on about a file and a meeting and a deadline and…

Wait did she say wife?!

Before the Lightning Lord could even speak, the woman was gone. The files were in his frozen hands, staring him in the face. But he couldn’t help but watch the suited woman leave, his mind firing on all cylinders and filled mostly with surprise.

“Wife?” He repeated out loud, blinking to clear his confusion. The gears in his head began to slowly churn, breaking through the fog in an attempt to rationalize what was happening. He glanced down at the files and hurriedly placed them on the desk as he swung around it and planted himself in the chair. More detailed files sat on the surface and he flipped them open, as if he was going to go to work. But instead he began scanning each one for details, hints to where he was and what had happened. He was surprised enough to find that a lot of the bigger files listed very little in terms of intimidate details. The others though were more focused on projects; vastly complicated electronic and engineering plans for different independent corporations. He understood the science and math behind them but they didn’t offer any aid so he pushed them aside.

“There has to be something here.” He grumbled as he continued to flip through papers. What had that woman said? Other than ‘wife’ of course…Kais, that was the loudest ringing thought in his mind. Something about a message. He glanced at the phone on his desk, a landline of all things. Who the hell still used landlines? He could see the blinking red light next to the message button and he quickly pressed it.

What followed surprised him even more than being here.

It was Levana but it…she wasn’t talking like she normally did. No way would she be calling him honey or hun. She also said ‘we’. Who was we? And love you?

He did love Levana, there was no denying that. But to date he couldn’t think of a time he had said such a thing to her. She was like a sister to him; he always felt that the actions behind what he did for her was enough of a tell about his feelings. In fact, she’d never said it to him either. Wife. Levana. The two just didn’t fit together in his mind.

“What is going on…?” He asked to no one in particular. He pulled the chair back and looked at the drawers, his hands moving to them. The top one of the right held a key; a small datapad the size of his hand. He pulled it out and booted it up, catching the sight of a business logo on the background before a number of icons popped up. He brought up the web application and quickly typed in his name. And to his surprise, he didn’t find much. A short article about a project he had completed about a year ago for the Tunai Engineering Company. He scoffed and put the datapad back.

He reached over to the left drawer and found yet another device, a cell phone. His personal one it seemed. He pressed the screen to turn it on and flipped through the phonebook, looking at the numbers. He could call home but it would be strange to ask for the address from his wife…

A directions app. He tapped into it and let out a quick breath of relief as he saw ‘Home’ listed under one of the more commonly chosen destinations. Satan City?

He was living on Earth with Levana as his wife. What the hell was happening? Without a second thought, he spread his senses out to find the aptly named township, focusing all his energy on locating a suitable power to transmit to. With one found, his form quickly left the office and reappeared on a side street in the suburbs.

“Okay…” He said, bringing up the phone once more and turning the GPS on. It beeped and pointed out the directions for him, drawing a red line through the streets that led to his house. He was only a few blocks from it. With a quick glance down each side of the street, he bent his knees and then sprang into the air, disappearing into nothing but a rush of wind.

He landed on the street a moment later, sliding across the tar until he came to a stop. His head twisted up to the house that the phone was pointing to. It was a fairly nice house, decently sized with a long porch running along the front. Flowers popped up from the dirt just below the deck, multicolored that seemed to clash with the soft milky white paint. Chishan approached the house slowly, walking up the steps carefully as he looked around. Two wicker chairs rested against the wall near the front door with a table between them. He eyed it before settling his gaze on the door. With a deep breath, he reached up…

And he knocked.

For a moment Levana felt relieved and a smile curled on her lips as well when Chishan admitted that it was some weird joke that the brothers were pulling on her. However the more he talked the more confused she became and the smile quickly faded away again. And it started to hit her, slowly but surely. Lately they had been talking about people from the future or other timelines, but besides Maker maybe, she actually never met someone herself, up till now that was.

“Wait! What? Kids?” she asked totally blown away, “Give us privacy? What the hell are you talking about? This is Mimi’s apartment…”

The more she looked and listened at the full blood Saiyan the more she was convinced that this was not the Chishan from her timeline. First of all there was the way he dressed of course and she would have to admit that this one looked less build then her friend. And the most important part probably, she could not sense that slightly different energy about him anymore, the Godly ki as he had called it. This other guy still looked like Chishan and his energy was similar, but still it was not him, actually he looked a bit more of how he was years ago, besides the clothes than of course, she had NEVER seen him wear something like that. It would suggest that this Chishan worked in an office or something.

Oh God this was bad, very bad even. Her brain started to work overtime and she didn’t actually listen anymore while ‘new’ Chishan just kept babbling on. She felt like she had been hit with a baseball bat and had to sit down for a moment. Not even just one baseball bat, dozens or hundreds even. Damn, how was she supposed to tell this? The guy clearly had no clue at all that something was wrong here. HOW COULD HE NOT SEE THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG?! And more important even, how was she supposed to fix this?

“Listen… Chishan…” she started of slowly and wanted to gesture him to sit down as well, so they could talk, but she completely froze when he leaned towards her for a kiss. For a moment she was too astonished to even pull away from him, but when his lips touched hers, her reflexes got back in action and she immediately pushed him away.

“Why are you kissing me?” she brought out. Would that mean that in his timeline they were not just friend….but lovers too?

Things just seemed to get worse by the second. Oh no,…. he mentioned kids! The feline girl suppressed the feeling of vomiting and took a deep breath. She loved Chishan a lot, she would probably give her life for him. He and Apio were the closest she had to a brother after Logan. So they idea of them sharing a bed was just gross. She even did not want to think about that at all.

“Wait, wait, Chishan!” she called him back, when he was about to walk out of the room to find other clothes or whatever, “We need to talk, this is serious, please sit down.”

She briefly waited until he actually sat down and cleared her throat before she continued, “Listen, there is no easy way to tell you this, so I’ll just say it…” she briefly locked eyes with the Saiyan but then turned her head away again, it just felt a little to awkward at that moment, “I am not ‘your’ Levana. The bright light we were just talking about must have been some disturbance in the time-space continuum. I’m afraid you are swapped with the Chishan from my timeline…”

***************************************************

Chishan would first hear a bunch of noise and stumbling inside the house and it would take a couple of minutes before the door would actually open. Eventually Levana was standing in the door opening, dressed in a pinkish flowery dress and a screaming yellow apron. The little baby girl on her arm stared at Chishan with big brown eyes, similar to his.

“You are home early, honey, how nice! I didn’t expect you yet. But did you forget your key again?” she greeted him with a smile, before stepping closer to him and kissing him on the lips. Levana softly shook her head, Chishan seemed a bit distracted lately. Probably because he was working so much to finish all the projects.

They had talked about it before, she understood that this was something he needed to do, something he did for them together, because in a while they would need to buy a bigger house. But still it made him feel guilty that he spend so few time with her and the kids.

At that same moment a two-year-old boy with dark hair and dark eyes, would come running through the hallway, “Daddy! Daddy!” the toddler immediately wrapped himself around Chishans leg and it didn’t look like he was planning to let go anytime soon.

“That is so cute, he really missed you, hun, we all did,” the feline girl continued and softly caressed her little boys hair, when she suddenly noticed her husband's clothes, “Did you buy a new outfit? It looks good on you.”

Suddenly, somewhere behind her in the house a timer rang, “Soup is read! Here, can you take Chrissy for a moment?” she explained happy, and gave the little girl to Chishan before she turned around and walked back to the kitchen.

Chishan couldn’t recall who Mimi was. Most likely one of Levana’s friends. Or it could be Apio’s friend, he didn’t really know much about his brother’s life. It was odd that Levana was freaking out a little bit and his brow furrowed at it. Was this some kind of game she was playing? He felt like he should have gotten some kind of warning about it.

He didn’t really think anything was terribly wrong until she shoved him away from her when he nearly kissed her. He blinked in surprise, now more curious than intrigued. “Why am I….you’re my wife, Levana. Kissing is something we do all the time.” He explained like it was a ridiculous question. And in truth it was; why was she playing like she didn’t know? Maybe she was trying some roleplaying and was expecting him to play along…

Before he could leave the room, she called him back and said they needed to have a serious talk. Well that was never good; no well-meaning conversation started with ‘we need to talk’. He knew enough about that from his work friends. Hesitantly he came back to the couch and sat down next to her, trying to keep his mind from going to the worst places possible. Of course it could be…“Wait, are you pregnant again?” He said with slight hopefulness. They had been trying for another child for a few weeks now. Maybe that was what was so serious!

No, no it wasn’t. It was something earth shattering. She started out the worst way possible; by saying there was no easy way to tell you this. Any hope he had for his question before was gone and the terrible situations played out even louder in his head. And while it was not something along the lines of ‘I’m leaving you’ or ‘I’m cheating on you’, it was still devastating. She could only stare with his jaw slack as she explained that he was in a different timeline, a different dimension. She was not his Levana, she was someone else’s. And the Chishan from this timeline, the one this Levana knew, had been swapped with him.

“I’m…” He started in shock, his mind trying to wrap around the thought. He blinked, using that to look away and around the apartment once more. Then he met her gaze once more, looking her up and down. Now that she had said it out loud, he could see it. She looked entirely different, felt entirely different. She still had the face of the person he loved but it wasn’t…her.

He sat there for a moment longer before he slowly got to his feet, his mind processing a bit quicker now. No, he had to see this with his eyes. Without a second thought, he burst from the spot and raced to the door, pulling it open before he shot down the hall in a full sprint.

His run down the stairs was barely remembered as he burst out the door of the apartment complex, stopping right by the street’s edge. People walked past him, people that looked exactly like they would in his timeline. Hovercars and other such vehicles sped past just like they would in his timeline. Everything looked exactly the same.

He placed his hands on his head and stared forward, his face wrought in shock.

“What the fudge…?”

- -

There were sounds from the inside and a moment later, Levana was at the door carrying a little baby girl. With a mental lasso, he reigned in his utter shock and almost wanton to laugh at what the Saiyaness was wearing. A bright pink dress with a yellow apron to match covered the woman, unlike anything he had ever seen her in before. In fact, it looked absolutely ridiculous to him! Levana was someone he saw in training outfits and relaxed wear but nothing as…well, as girly as this.

“Uh yeah I g-…” His sentence was cut off by her lips on his and his body tensed up. Well, that confirmed that they were definitely married. He didn’t know how to react, a general response for the Saiyan when someone he never expects kisses him. It had happened with Pan, it had happened with Hikari. Now here was the woman he considered his younger sister giving him yet another awkward and shocking kiss. When she pulled back, he forced his best smile that didn’t look like his stomach hadn’t just flip-flopped over itself.

The enthusiastic cries of a young boy caught his attention and before he could locate it, a pair of arms found themselves around his leg. He looked down at the child, probably two years old, happily holding onto the limb and smiling up at him. He had called him daddy. A pang echoed throughout him, one that had only become stronger since Christmas and his awkwardness melted away for a moment into warmth.

It was hard to pull his eyes away from the boy to look back at Levana. “Yeah I…missed you guys too.” He said softly, doing his best to play the part he had apparently been assigned. He glanced at his clothes, still half-open and showing more of his torso than he probably should have. A terrible habit he had come into as of late. He chuckled and scratched the back of his head. “Yeah I was…going for something a bit more casual, I guess.”

He wasn’t going to be able to keep this up for long. He’d have to find a way to get Levana alone and explain. There really was only one explanation; he had pulled into yet another dimension and swapped with the Chishan from here. One that was married to Levana and had kids with her. Boy, it must have been a dimension far separated from his own.

He heard the timer and before he could even comment, he had the little girl in his arms. He blinked in surprise as Levana disappeared into the house, her dress waving behind her. He looked at the little girl, her big eyes staring up at him in wonder. Chrissy; that’s what Levana had said her name was. He couldn’t help the small smile that came to his face at the sight of her. Without even thinking, he reached down and picked up the little boy from his leg, holding the two with an arm each. “Let’s go see what mommy is doing.” He said to them both gently, grinning softly. He moved inside the house and closed the door behind him before he followed after the trail Levana had led, towards the kitchen.

Okay, he could play this role for a tiny bit longer

Oh no… his wife… this Chishan just confirmed what she already expected and the idea was just terrifying… With the life they had, she had never really imagined to be someone’s wife, let alone Chishans wife! And as if that was not bad enough, he asked if she was pregnant again… AGAIN?!! Just how many kids did their alternate selves have already? Actually she didn’t even want to know, she would try to just ignore that ‘fact’ and try to get this solved as fast as possible. At least he seemed happen with the thought that she, no his wife, might be pregnant again. That was sweet… kind of. Levana could feel her stomach turn again though.

However the hopeful look on his face quickly vanished while she continued to explain what had happened. She felt almost guilty about shaking him up like this, but there was no good way to tell this really, he had to know what understand going on and the sooner the better.

After she finished, she remained silent and gave him some time to process this pretty incredible story. It was obvious from the look on his face that he was totally blown away and that he had a hard time to deal with this.

In the meantime her own brain was still working overtime as well, while she tried to figure out the best way to solve this situation. Her first idea would have been to contact Apio and have them investigate this together. On the other hand, he did mention something about the Apio in his own timeline, so confronting him with more people he knew might be even more confronting and difficult to handle. Maybe it was better to keep him here in the apartment for now, until she came up with a plan. She could contact Doctor Briefs, if there was one person around that might be able to help her it should be Briefs, no doubt about it. After all, it hadn’t been that long ago that she went on a mission with him to another dimension; he had a portal so hopefully they could switch the two Chishan again.

Suddenly a much darker thought crossed her mind. It even made her shiver for a moment, when she remembered that Chishan explained how Mathilda was transported to another dimension and that there had been no way to get her back. And if even Shenron couldn’t solve something like that, how the hell was she supposed to do it than? What if it couldn’t be fixed? Then this Chishan would stay here with her forever and…. Other Chishan was stuck with his wife and kids. No no, that was not an option. She had to fix this, she just had to.

Levana saw how this alternative version of her friend got up from the couch and walked around a bit. She had seen people do it before when they were stressed. Apparently, giving you body something to do instead of just sitting still helped to relieve the tension just a little bit.

“Eum, what were you…” she started to ask, when suddenly burst out the door and ran down the stairs.

“Hey, WAIT! NO! Chishan!” she yelled and immediately went after him. The feline girl managed to catch up to him pretty quickly. Probably she could have stopped him as will, but it just didn’t seem such a good idea to tackle an already panicking man halfway down the stairs. Instead she just stayed close to him, ready to intervene when necessary. And if he continued to run down the street in the state he was in now it might be very necessary to save him from any accidents.

She felt slightly relieved when he stopped on the pavement and just looked around instead of getting himself hit by a car or something. Levana quickly stepped in front of him, while she put her hands on his shoulders and forced him to look at here.

“Chishan, I know this is scary as hell, I’m shocked and scared too,” she started to say in friendly but firm voice, “But I promise you that we will fix this, you will get back to your… family, trust me. And I’m sure that my friend on the other site will do the best be can too to get you two back where you belong.”

She took his arm in a rather strong grip and hoped that he would cooperate to go back to the apartment.

****************

By the time Chishan entered the kitchen Levana had already taken the soup from the stove. She was walking around with yet another baby on her left arm and a phone in her right hand, while she was talking enthusiastically to someone on the other side of the line. Not far from her a third baby was crawling on the floor. Guessing from their clothing, Chishan would see the one on her arm was a girl and very similar to the one he was holding, while the little one on the ground was a boy. All four of the kids looked very typical Saiyan like with dark hair, dark eyes and a tail.

“Uhu, yes seven o’clock is perfect!” Levana said in the phone and offered her husband another smile as he walked in with the kids on his arms, “No no, you don’t need to hurry! We are very grateful that you’re doing this for us… uhu…. Hmm, yeah Chishan is very excited too… Okay, see you later! Bye!”

The feline girl turned off phones and put it down on the kitchen table, while she gave Chishan a slightly naughty wink as if he knew what she had been talking about on the phone.

“It is so nice of you to come home early, honey, now we have more time to get the kids ready,” Levana said while she walked closer to him, to give him another kiss.

Suddenly a slightly confused frown formed on her forehead and she looked up at her husband, “Didn’t you get my message to pick up the groceries?” she wondered, “And where did you park the car?” she continued to ask; now she realised that she didn’t hear him when he arrived. And it was definitely a sound that she was knew very well and that her sensitive feline ears picked up easily.

Before he could answer though, little Chrissy started to cry. “Oops, I think someone needs a new diaper,” she said in a high squeaking voice, a tone people typically use when talking to little kids and babies, “Don’t worry, sweetie, daddy will take care of that!”

The Saiyaness grinned at her husband and had even some sparkles in her eyes; it was obvious that she loved him and their children a lot.

“I’ll put these two little monkey’s in the bathtub already, can you bring Chrissy and Chishan JR. when you changed her diaper?” she asked will she picked up the baby boy as well.
Levana turned around and walked away with the two kids, while she was still making some silly noises and talking to them, “Oh you will have so much fun, you’re gonna spend the weekend with uncle Apio and aunty Mathilda!”

Levana was on his tail even before he hit the stairwell. But she chose not to stop him, a smart choice as his power was nothing compared to regular Chishan’s. He would have stumbled and rolled down the stairs like a sketch in a comedy show. If he had been focused enough to think about it, he would have noticed that this Levana was so much stronger than his wife. But his mind was in tatters at the moment as he drove through the main doorway to the street outside.

His eye seemed to be staring into nothingness, his hands clasped about his face as he cursed like only a fatherly figure could. The Saiyaness stepped in front of him, her hands on his shoulders and her intentions to get him to look at her. Mixed feelings raced inside of him, all of them urging to embrace the woman that had his wife’s face and voice and just ask if this was all a nightmare. Where was his house? Where were his kids, his family that he cherished above almost all things? Left in his own dimension and he were here, dropped off like an abandoned child at an orphanage. It was enough to almost move him to tears.

Thank the Gods that Levana was there. She captured his gaze; spoke to him with a calm firmness that he knew well from being a father. She reassured him that she would get him back to his world and that the other version of himself, this Levana’s Chishan, would be working hard to get himself back to this world as well. He took a moment to swallow the lump that was throbbing inside of his throat and gave her an affirming nod.

“Okay.” He said softly, reaching up to adjust his glasses and catch his breath once more. She wrapped her arm around his and he let her lead him back towards the apartment. Few people noticed the moment between the two, thinking it more of a lover’s quarrel than anything else. They passed through the doorway and the alternate Chishan took another moment. Finding calm within himself, he took a bit of the lead and walked to the elevator. How many flights of stairs had they run down? He quickly calculated the number and then pressed the button to call for the lift.

The machine hummed as it sent the box down to them. In the meantime, the alternate Chishan looked at Levana. Now that he had his senses about him, he could at least attempt to look at her rationally. She still looked like his wife and Gods that made his heart ache just a bit. “So you and…Chishan.” He started awkwardly, unsure how to address his counterpart. “By the way you kind of reeled back from me, I’m assuming that…you guys aren’t together.”

It was so incredibly uncomfortable that he actually had to laugh a bit.

- -

Chishan walked in with Chrissy and Chishan Jr in his arms, fully expecting to see his alternate’s wife preparing the soup. What he hadn’t expected to find was yet another kid in her arms as she prepared it. She had a phone against her ear, speaking to whoever was on the other line. Movement caught his eye and he spotted another baby on the floor, crawling around the kitchen excitedly. Four; there were four kids altogether here. The oldest in his left arm was at least two and the rest looked like they were all the same age. Triplets?

Oh Kais.

Levana smiled at him and he forged yet another one, as if trying to seem like all of this wasn’t world turning. She noted about his excitement and he couldn’t help over exactly what he was supposed to be excited about. They were clearly going somewhere at seven…he just didn’t know where. As she placed the phone down, she gave him a sultry wink. Okay, wherever they were going, he had to make sure he told Levana everything before then. Or else things could get tremendously awkward.

“Yes I guess we d-…” She cut him off with another kiss, the Saiyan once more freezing up on the spot. It even felt like kissing a sister, a slight shock running across skin that coalesced at his stomach, twisting it furiously. He was still in the middle of dealing with that when Levana’s curiosity got the best of her and she asked him two rather burning questions.

Chishan could operate a fully functioning battle vessel, fly and run at velocities that surpassed the speed of sound. But never, for even a moment, had he considered taking driving lessons and learning how to operate a car. It had never even crossed his mind to put it on a list of things to do. He was suddenly regretting that now. Dependent on how long he was in this new dimension, he may have to fit into his alternate self’s life and that meant working a job and driving a car. The very thought sent a small wave of panic through him.

Luckily he was saved by the little girl in his arm beginning to cry, railing at the sky and her parents over her sudden discomfort. Levana was quick to deduce exactly what the problem was, speaking to her (or their?) daughter in a high-pitched voice, practically cooing at the toddler. It was a very different side of the Saiyaness, one he never imagined he would see. It surprised him how much it moved him.

But then he was assigned to diaper duty. He did his best to hide the shock and worry in his eyes as she grinned up at him, blissfully unaware of his predicament. She marched over to the crawling baby and picked her up, both ‘parents’ now with arms full of children. Bath time was nearing and that meant Chrissy would have to be cleaned before that. He looked at the little girl and bounced her a little in his arm to try and relax her.

Until the world stopped.

Matilda. Aunty Matilda of all things. His heart lurched into his stomach and swelled up there like a rock, causing his breath to catch. He stared after Levana, words lost to him. It was the piercing cries of the little girl that brought him back to reality and he calmly spoke to her with comforting shh’s. He managed to force himself to walk, tracking his way upstairs in search for the baby’s room. He walked slowly, not wanting to look like he was completely and utterly lost. When he found it, he had to pause at the door as he looked inside. It was so…colorful, painted a multitude of different hues so as to accommodate the three children.

How does one change a diaper? He assumed he should just take the old one off and replace it with a new one, right? He lay Chrissy down on the changing table, her crocodile tears still running down her cheeks as she mumbled unintelligibly. He let the boy down onto the ground, giving his hand a quick tousle as he looked at the girl wiggling on the table.

Okay…so he needed replacements. Luckily there was a box directly above him on a shelf, grabbing it quickly. And even more fortunate was the set of instructions that had been printed across the back. Pull off by straps, unfold the diaper. Make sure to clear the baby’s rear and powder before placing a new diaper on. So this was what fatherhood was like. Carefully he began the process, slowly and surely experiencing diaper changing for the first time. It was an odd experience, definitely smelly, but strangely enough as he got through it, it started to become…more natural. Within a few moments, he was placing a new diaper on a much happier Chrissy, now stretching her fingers out to him so he would pick her up.

“That’s much better, isn’t it?” He said softly to the girl and she squealed at the sound of his voice. He picked her up with both hands and chuckled at her happy noises. Only the tugging on his pants tore his gaze away, as Chishan Jr looked more than ready to be picked up again. “Alright, looks like it is bath time.” He said as he scooped up the boy to rest next to girl.

He had suppressed his shock over Matilda for the moment, though it still clung to his soul heavily. He weighed it down for the moment as he turned into the bathroom with the two children in hand. “Two more rugrats for you.” He announced as he entered.

Levana offered this Chishan a warm smile as an extra confirmation that everything would be all right. Inside she was probably almost as nervous as he was and she was more than relieved when he seemed to calm down a bit and agreed to go back with her instead of making too much of a scene.

Nobody on the street paid attention to them, except maybe an older lady who gave them a curious look as they entered the building again. Levana recognized her as one of Mimi’s neighbours, however she didn’t remember her name and she did not feel like having a casual chat about the weather at that point, so she just briefly nodded and quickly moved on.

When they stepped in the elevator Chishan pushed the button and a deadly silence fell between them, as the door slowly closed. She wasn’t sure what to say though and she just took the moment to go through everything that had happened once more. From the moment that her Chishan had showed up in the hallway of the apartment up until the moment where he had been swapped with his lookalike that was standing with her in the elevator now. Had there been something weird around them before that bright light appeared? Did they do something that triggered this event? Everything seemed perfectly normal at their side, maybe something happened on this Chishans side though. She planned to ask him all about it once they got back to the apartment.

Suddenly her thoughts were interrupted when he asked about her relationship with the Chishan from her timeline.

“Eum… no…,” The feline girl looked up and stared at him for a moment, before she turned her head away again and just looked at the elevator floor. She had tried not to think too much about that part and focus on the more technical part of the swap and a possible solution. However it seemed important to him, so she decided to just answer as much of his questions as possible, “I mean, we are good friends, but we have more like a … brother-sister relation… they idea to be married to him is… a bit weird.”

That was the more polite version, she could not tell him that the whole idea actually made her slightly sick to her stomach. She had really preferred not to talk too much about it, but now he brought it up himself, she couldn’t deny she was actually curious about their life together. Honestly, there had not been one moment during their friendship that she had been attracted to Chishan in any other way than now, she had never fallen in love with him whatsoever. So, she just HAD to ask, “How did you… eum… get together?”

****************************

The bathroom pretty much looked like something exploded in there, with baby clothes, towels and little puddle of water everywhere. The kids however seemed to have the time of their lives, while playing with little yellow ducks and happily splashing the water around. Levana was laughing as well and continued to talk to them in a barely understandable baby language.

She turned her head as Chishan entered the bathroom, “Oh look it’s daddy with little Chishan and Chrissy!” she squeaked enthusiastically, “Time to switch!”

She started to took the babies out of the bath one by one, dried them of and wrapped them in something that looked like a miniature hooded bathrobe, “Can you get Charley and Chassy dressed, honey? They will be here in half an hour already,” she said first referring to the babies of course and second to Apio and Mathilda, before taking the two other kids and putting them in the bathtub now.

“I’m really curious where you are taking us, darling,” she smiled, while she continued to wash the children, “I didn’t have a weekend alone anymore since the triplets were born, I’m sure it will be great! I wasn’t sure what to pack; you’ve been so awfully mysterious about the trip! But I guess we might not need that much…,” she ended with another naughty grin.

The alternate Chishan looked over at Levana and nodded as she explained her relationship with the Chishan from this dimension. Brother and sister kind of thing…His brow furrowed at the sentiment as he tried to view the woman with platonic lens. It was a little easier as she looked eerily different than her counterpart from his universe but it was still rather difficult. He chuckled a little bit and shrugged. “Yeah, I guess it would be kind of weird to imagine being married to someone who is like your brother.”

It was a sad truth but one he would have to stomach as long as he was here. That meant keeping his normal antics around her, kissing her, giving her hugs from behind and talking to her sweetly, would have to be locked away. Not an easy cage to close but he believed he could manage it. This wasn’t his Levana, it was a different one. That classification would help.

He looked back to her as she broke the silence with a question, one that must have been burning a hole in her mind. It wasn’t every day you find out in another world you were married to your brother-like friend. So it was understandable to ask the very question she did. He scratched the back of his head softly as the bell rang in the elevator, signaling that they had reached the appropriate floor. He waved his hand forward so that she could take the lead as he began to speak. “Well uh…a couple of years ago, we met on Earth. We ended up in this team with a few other people. I’m assuming you have a Rubic, Pan and Minosha in this dimension. Well we formed Team Rocket and ran around the galaxy like a bunch of crazy kids.” He chuckled a little at the memory.

“But we wound up on Earth for some time, Leva-…other Levana and I. We eventually went into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to train. Well we spent a lot of time together and eventually things just…bloomed.” He said with a smile and shrug. “By the time we got out, you were already pregnant with Chishan Jr.”

“Oh!” He said suddenly, remembering. He reached into his pocket and extracted his wallet, pulling a strand of pictures out. “I completely forgot. This top one right here is Chishan Jr. He’s two years old now. And here are the triplets; Chrissy, Charley and Chassy. They’re just a few months old.” Chishan was smiling proudly, just like a father would over his children. He held the picture out a bit longer in case she wanted to look it over before he put it back into his wallet. “We got married shortly before Junior was born and we’ve been together ever since.”

- -

Well the bathroom looked exactly like one would with four kids. Even with just two of them in the water, they were splashing enough to send water all over the bathmat. They were equipped with bath ducks, tiny yellow plastic toys that they held and bashed into the water excitedly. Their laughter echoed out from the small room along with their mother, Levana interacting with them even as they made a mess.

Chishan couldn’t help but laugh just a little at the sight. It was utterly ludicrous and horrendously adorable. He stepped inside and watched as Levana pulled the kids from the water so they could swap, watching as she dried off the children and draped them in the blankets. “Sure.” He said, handing off Chishan Jr. and Chrissy to take Charley and Chassy. The two new babies squirmed against him, still giggling as they pulled at the towels around them.

His gaze snapped up at the mention of taking her somewhere. Wait this wasn’t a weekend at home? They were going on a trip? Damnit alternate Chishan, being a romantic and everything. The Lightning Lord forced yet another smile and did his best to ignore her insinuations. “Oh it’s a surprise. You’ll just have to wait and see.” He said with confidence, hiding the slight panic in his voice.

He was literally about to ruin a romantic weekend away. But he simply couldn’t play the role of alternate Chishan in the manners she seemed to be hinting at. The idea made his stomach flop on top of itself. He quickly exited the bathroom and headed back to the kid’s rooms. He lay them down gently on the changing table and then summoned a bit of speed to move him about the room in a flash. A moment later he had the clothes in hand, a set for each one plus two others for the ones still bathing. He hung the extras down over the railing of the closest crib and slipped the ones in hand onto Charley and Chassy.

“There we are.” He said to them softly, looking at the fully dressed children. He held his hands out for them to play with, their tiny fingers grabbing at his large ones as they continued to squeak. He waited for Levana to join them, if only to get more clues to what to do. The idea of seeing Matilda again, after all this time, was a little hard to bear. But it didn’t weigh as heavily as the fact that he would have to tell this Levana who he really was and deal with the fallout from that.

Levana nodded and offered this other Chishan a little smile, when he confirmed her statement that it was weird to imagine being married to him since he was like a brother to her. She was glad that was clear now and that he seemed to understand the situation. At least he would not try to kiss her anymore or worse…. Hopefully.

Soon after they arrived at the correct floor and Levana stepped out of the elevator to lead the way to the apartment. The door was still wide open, since both of them had run out like a couple of raging bulls, but none of the neighbours seemed to have notice anything weird or they just didn’t care that much.

She turned her head back to Chishan and listened quietly while he explained how his life had been in his dimension. A more sincere smile appeared on her face though, when he mentioned he knew Pan, Mino and Rubic too and they also formed a team called Team Rocket. Those were the good old days, before the War started, before they all went their own way. In some weird it made her happy, that even in another dimension they had been friends.

However the smile froze on her face when he came to the part of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Apparently that was the moment were there timelines had separated, even though up till then had seemed identical to her reality. Levana remember that year they spend in the Chamber very well and it had been everything but romantic, not to mention Apio had been there with them too.

Almost automatically a imagine of herself together with Chishan flashed before her eyes again and it made her stomach turn around again. She tried very hard to push that thought away, but it only became worse when he explained she even became pregnant there already Chishan JR… In a reflex her hand went to her belly and she could almost feel the pain of giving birth to the little boy, although she never had a child.

“Chishan Junior?” she echoed. Wow, that was… weird, especially if she gave birth him. But the worst part still had to come apparently and instead of giving her a moment to get used to the idea, he just happily babbled on about his children like a proud father would.

She completely froze when he pushed some pictures of their, no HIS, children under her nose. “Triplets…? Chrissy, Charley and Chassy…” she repeated again, though her voice wasn’t much more than a soft whisper. Oh God, why did she had to ask, why did she had to be so curious? Though for her species it was not uncommon at all to have twins or triplets, it seemed to occur much more frequent than with humans or Saiyans, but still, she had never imagined to have them herself. She even didn’t imagine having kids at all. But apparently in some other timeline she had four already! Wait… didn’t he mention something before about being ‘pregnant again’? Did they still wanted MORE children?!

“Eum… they are… cute…” she managed to bring out, before entering the apartment again. She walked straight to the kitchen and quickly filled a glass with water for herself and drunk it all at once. She needed to calm down her stomach, before she would really start vomiting. Actually she was tempted to go for a much stronger drink at that point, because apparently that was what humans did sometimes in a stressful situation. She was pretty sure though that Mimi didn’t have any thing that was strong to enough to help her deal with all this mess, definitely not considering her much higher metabolism.

She took a deep breath and felt slightly calmer again. The feline girl cleared her throat before she continued, “You want something to drink?” she asked him, while she filled her own glass for the second time.

“Well, I can tell you that our timelines seem pretty similar up until the… Chamber… our relationship did not…. ‘bloom’ there.” She explained and in the meantime dozens more question started to from in her head and she slightly frowned. The moment she had entered the Chamber in this timeline, she had already met someone else and though their relationship had been very early still, she had been pretty eager to get back to him. So, she just had to ask more questions, “But what about Strega then… and Mathilda?” she wondered, without realising she said that out loud.

Maybe they shouldn’t be wasting their time with chatting though, in the end it didn’t matter what happened somewhere else, right? What did matter now, was that they got both Chishan back to their correct timeline, hopefully without disturbing more of the space-time continuum. She was convinced that ‘her’ Chisan and the other Levana were already working on the other side to get this fixed, so it was time they would start doing something useful too.

“Alright, time to get to the bottom of this, tell me exactly what you were doing at the time of the swap. Maybe we can figure out what triggered this.” She said much more firm again and suddenly she just hoped that he had been doing something normal… and not try to have more children with his Levana.

****************************

Moments later, while Chishan was still in the room with Chassy and Charley and Levana in the bathroom with Junior and Chrissy, a pair of heavy boots came walking up the stairs, followed by a much softer and more elegant pass.

“Chishan, my man!” Apio called out while he entered the room and gave his brother a friendly punch against his shoulder. Apio had taken on the habit to just IT himself inside the house, usually making sure he ended up in the living room first though, “All ready for the weekend with the wife eh?” he asked while giving his older brother a meaningful wink and pointing at his different shirt, which still revealed a good part of his torso.

“Aha! Two of my favourite little monkeys!” the young Sayian smiled an rustled through their hair, which made them coo enthusiastically, “And don’t worry about them eh, Chish, we’ll take perfect care of them. I’m pretty sure uncle Rubic will be monitoring their vital signs twenty-four seven.”

Down the hallway a funny giggle from two women escaped from the bathroom, as Mathilda was there helping Levana with the other two children and maybe talking some girls stuff about their weekend away.

“So, I see you have been working out again! Good!” Apio grinned, “You should pass by once, we can spar together again, like the good old days! I can show you some new moves if you’d like. That is when you’re done working out with Lev of course,” he teased his brother again and burst out in laughter.

“Chishan Junior.” The alternate Chishan confirmed, a proud fatherly smile still plastered across his face. His two year old boy had grown up so fast in such little time; he still couldn’t believe it had been such a short time since his birth. But everything had changed in that moment; the one where he held his son for the first time. He knew that his life could never go back to running around the galaxy and playing hero. He had to be a proper father for the boy and for his wife, one that would stay by them and love them with all of his heart.

It wasn’t until he was half-way through talking about the triplets that he could sense her uncomfortableness. He had forgotten, yet again, that she was not his Levana and that he, to her, was like a brother. These were children that had come from him and another version of herself and the idea of them being together…well, it must have been more than bothersome. And now he was proudly showing off his spawn like it wasn’t a big deal. A rather flustered alternate Chishan quickly fumbled putting his wallet away and a heavy blush came across his cheeks.

“S-sorry about that, Levana.” He apologized, following her into the apartment slowly and shoving his hands into his pockets. “I know pictures are probably the last thing you want to see or hear about. Sometimes I get a little too excited about them. I need to remember—at least for the time being—that I’m in a different place and we have a different relationship. I’ll try to be more mindful to that.” He offered a sheepish smile in an attempted peace offering. No doubt he would forget about that agreement at least once or twice more but he was going to at least try his best.

She swallowed her water like she was dehydrated, the weight of the situation clearly as heavy on her as it was on him. Oddly enough, after his minor outburst and escape to the street, he had relatively calmed down. He was more at ease and his body was relaxed. He hadn’t quite come to grips to what had happened but he at least knew he was with someone he could trust. He waved off her drink offer and looked around the kitchen until she brought up the eventual romantic entanglement between his wife and him. He chuckled awkwardly and rubbed the back of his head.

But her next questions confused him more and he showed it, his brow stitching together and his head cocking to the side. “I don’t know any Strega…Wait, actually I think I do. He was an old friend of yo-…Levana’s. And Matilda has been with Apio for years now. Why would you ask about the-…” He started to question her mentioning of them when it dawned on him. “Wait…you were with Strega? Because in our universe he was…well, he didn’t quite swing that way.” He said with yet another awkward laugh. “But are you saying I was with Matilda? That’s…that’s insane. She’s been like a sister to me for so long.” His stomach flipped a bit. Now he understood what she had been feeling.

The time for idle chit-chat seemed to be over as Levana turned her attention to the problem at hand; him. He crossed his arms over his chest. “Well, I was preparing for my last meeting of the day. We had to meet with some investors out by North City and settle the terms of our deal.” He hummed gently as he imagined himself back in his office. “I was standing near my desk, rearranging the details in my head when suddenly I was swallowed up by that light. It was the strangest thing. I just hope your Chishan didn’t panic too much and cause any damage. Rescheduling that meeting will be a pain but I can manage once I get back there.”

He paused and looked down at himself before he laughed once more. “This is going to sound strange but do you mind if I use your shower? I’ve been running around since about five this morning and I feel like I smell like a swamp.”

- -

Chishan nearly leapt from his spot as the boisterous voice of his brother broke the relatively calm silence. He spun on the spot with the kids in hand to look at the younger Saiyan, grinning and walking over to the Lightning Lord to punch him in the shoulder. Chishan didn’t budge at the action, rather caught up in the energy that was emanating off of Apio. He was strong; far stronger than the Apio from his dimension. Though he was still shadowed by the Saiyan Inferno, this impressive boost was almost too much to handle and Chishan chuckled awkwardly.

He glanced down at his open shirt, still bearing more of him than he should have been. He had noticed this when he came to the door earlier, why hadn’t he changed that? He mentally kicked himself before he turned his sights back on Apio.

Wait, his brother!

Chishan understood that he’d have to tell Levana about who he really was but he could also tell Apio. From the way he was spoken of, he sounded like the man who ran around the galaxy and playing the hero. That could mean he had some kind of solution for Chishan and his alternate version. He waited until Apio had finished addressing the children and insinuating further about Levana before he pulled the younger Saiyan away from the door.

“Listen, Apio. This is going to sound strange but…I’m not this world’s Chishan. We were…well, I think we were swapped because I wound up here only about an hour ago. I come from a timeline where Levana and I are not married and…well, a few other drastically different things are happening.” He said, remembering that Matilda was out there with Levana.

“I’m trying to figure out a way to get this world’s Chishan back and get me back to my universe. I was hoping maybe you could help me.”

Levana offered this alternative Chishan a real smile this time, “It’s okay, you don’t need to apologize,” she responded when he apologized about being overly excited about his kids. She honestly felt bad for making him feel awkward. It was just such a weird situation and what he did, as being a father, was only natural. She just couldn’t help that her emotions were mostly clearly readable on her face, “I’m really glad that you are happy and that you love the kids, I mean parents are supposed to be proud of their children right? Never apologize for that,” she smiled again, but stared more at the things around her then at him really, “I’m sorry if I’m making this more awkward for you then it already is… I know that this swap is much worse for you than it is for me; ending up in a strange place, alone…”

She paused for a moment and looked back at Chishan, “I promise you that we will figure it out and fix it.” She probably sounded pretty convinced, but she wasn’t that sure at all. So far she still wasn’t sure what to do.

When he explained about the Strega and Mathilda in his universe, she became silent again for a moment and automatically pictured Apio and Mathilda together as well as her former lover… being interested in men instead of women.

For the first time since the two Chishans had been swapped Levana started to laugh, it was not a really sincere laugh because something was funny, she was laughing because the whole idea just became more absurd with the minute. Like people sometimes start to laugh in a very dangerous or stressful situation, as some kind of backlash.

“Seriously? Apio and Mathilda together and Strega…” she repeated, though it wasn’t really a question. It was a damn good explanation of why the other Levana had not been together with him, not much to argue about that. In some weird way she felt a bit relieved maybe, this was probably easier to cope with than to hear he was with someone else, like Mathilda or Pan…

Suddenly it hit her though and her face turned pale when she thought about her Chishan in the other timeline, “Oh, wait! You say Mathilda is together with Apio for years now, that means… she is still alive there?” Oh god, again things had turned even worse than before and she prayed for her friends sake that he wouldn’t have to meet this alternative version of his ex.

When he continued to explain about what he was doing at the time of the swap, everything sounded pretty normal to her. Too normal actually for them. Considering his clothes, she had kind of guess already that he had some kind of office job and now he confirmed that. It didn’t help her in the slightest bit though. She probably had hoped that he would tell her he was working on some kind of portal and was sucked in during a test. At least that would give them an explanation of why this had happened and then the real Chishan could maybe try to figure out how to get back again. Unfortunately that was not the case.

He interrupted her thoughts with asking if it was possible to shower and again she stared at him for a moment, “Eum, yeah that is a bit strange…” she smiled softly. They were in the middle of a crisis here and this guy wanted to… shower. She didn’t want to go into it though, everyone handled stress in his own way and maybe he just wanted a bit of time alone to gather his thoughts.

“But sure, no problem. There, down the hallway, second door on the left,” she continued and pointed him in the right direction, “Just… don’t be surprised, everything is kind of… pink. Mimi likes pink,” she explained and shrugged her shoulders. Luckily the living room and kitchen were pretty neutral to not scare of guests too much. But the bathroom and Mimis bedroom were very screaming pink to say at least.

When he was gone, she grabbed her laptop and sat on the couch again, “Let’s see if google can get me some answers…”

While she went through several websites, most of them weren’t even very scientific and didn’t offer any useful help, she remembered one of her teacher in high school talking about the subject. She must have been fourteen at the time, maybe fifteen. That particular lesson had been about fate or destiny and free will. He had claimed that every time you had to choose between two things, time split into two, one path for each choice. And so there was not just ‘one destiny’ for people, there were hundreds, thousands, maybe even millions of possibilities to live your life. It had been quite difficult to comprehend back then, it still was and a lot of people didn’t agree with that theory, but it seemed the man had been right.

**********************************

The grin on Apio’s face immediately vanished and he had a quick look at the door behind him to make sure that Levana or Mathilda didn’t walk in.

“Oh boy,” the younger Saiyan sighed and rubbed the back of his head for a moment, before he continued, “Listen man, I understand that you are under a lot of stress, the job, four kids… Believe me, I really admire you, I don’t know if I would be up for a life as a husband and a father.”

He paused for a moment and looked again at the door, they had been through a similar talk right before the triplets were born and Chishan kind of freaked out. He even dyed his hair blond for a week and was searching to buy a motorcycle, “I know you sometimes miss the adventure and the danger even from when you guys were still part of the team… But this is the life you two chose to have after Junior was born. You have got a wonderful wife and wonderful children, don’t mess it up bro, just for some… weird fantasies. Now get yourself together alright, you’ll have a nice weekend alone with Lev.”

Right when he finished the women walked in with the two children still wrapped up in a towel.

“Hey Chish, ready for the weekend?” Mathilda greeted him and walked over to him to give him a friendly kiss on the cheek, like brothers/sisters-in-law would do, and Levana did the same with Apio, “The kids have grown up so much! I can hardly believe it, we really should visit more often!”

“You know you are more then welcome,” Levana replied, while she handed Junior to Chishan so he could get him dressed and then took over Chrissy from Mathilda to do the same, “I was actually planning to have all of you over for dinner next week, to be together again before you guys leave Earth again and as a thank you to watch the kids of course.”

“That would be great! I’m sure Minosha, Pan and Rubic would love to come over too,” Mathilda replied.

“So, there you go, all ready to have a great weekend with the aunts and uncles!” Levana spoke to her children, when Junior and Chrissy were finally dressed as well.

Matilda was still alive?

“What do you mean?” The other Chishan asked, his brow now concerned. “Are you saying that…are you saying Matilda is dead here?” The thought of his step-sister, a woman he considered a very close friend, dead gripped his heart with the force of a tank. It caused his breath to catch and his muscles to seize up.

That’s exactly why he needed a shower. He needed a few minutes to himself so he could truly gather his thoughts and emotions. He was putting a brave face on for Levana, doing his best to remain completely and utterly calm. But he was worried deep inside; worried that he could be stuck here for the rest of his life with a version of his wife that he could never truly love. It wasn’t for lack of trying; it would be because she couldn’t accept it that way. And what about his kids; four darling children that were his heart and soul. What could he do if he never saw them again?

“That’s okay. My bathroom has pink towels as well.” The other Chishan said with an uncomfortable laugh and rubbed the back of his head. A moment later he was heading down the hall. As he closed the door, he turned around and placed his back against it, heaving a heavy and shaky sigh. It wasn’t the fear of being alone that troubled him; he knew this Levana would probably do everything she could to try and get him back home. And she would continue to do so even if the answers continued to dwindle. And honestly, that kind of scared him. She was Levana; there were differences but it was the same woman he had fallen in love with years ago. It would be treacherous to try and be around her all the time and suffer from a love that would never be returned.

He shook the worries away and walked over to the shower, twisting the knob to turn it on. It only took a moment for it to get hot and he was quick to remove his clothes and hop in. The steamy liquid seemed to wash away a layer of tension and he sighed once more as he bathed his face in the spray. He had to have faith; it was something he strongly believed helped in every situation. He’d once put so much faith in his hope and he had been rewarded more times than not because of it.

But there seemed to be so much wrong here. He didn’t have a family, he didn’t have a wife, and Matilda was gone…How did this Chishan not break down? If he had lost even one of those, he wouldn’t even know what to do with himself. Now all he wanted was to be on that weekend away with-…

Oh no!

“Levana!” He bellowed, his eyes snapping open as he practically leapt from the shower. He grabbed the closest towel and wrapped it around his still soaking waist as he burst through the door and practically slid into view of her. “We’re going away for a weekend. I mean, the other Levana and I were supposed to go away for a romantic weekend!”

“We need to get your Chishan back now!”

- -

Was Apio really not going to listen to him about this?

Chishan kept trying to interrupt his brother, who seemed fixated on not believing the story he had just told. But the younger Saiyan continued on trying to calm him down or calm the other Chishan down. Had his other self had a similar break like this that it was so blaze to Apio? The Lightning Lord was about ready to counter when the women came in and he was stunned into silence.

“Matilda…” He said softly as she came up and kissed him on the cheek. He was frozen in his spot as he looked at her, memories flooding back into his mind like a waterfall. Here was the woman he had once loved, the woman he had lost right before the beginning of the war. She looked so happy and care-free, like none of the pain he had brought upon her had ever come. How many times he had wished to have this opportunity; to have one more moment with her just so he could apologize for everything.

But this wasn’t his Matilda. This was a different woman with a different life. And she was happy; happy with his brother it seemed. He swallowed everything that wanted to come up from his gut and he forced another smile. “Yeah…all ready.” It was the single hardest thing he’d had to do in a long time; talk casually to the Matilda.

Chishan changed the clothes of his other’s children in a bit of a daze, listening into the conversation but not truly hearing it. What would he do if he had to stay here for an extended period of time? He couldn’t think of that at the moment. He finished dressing Junior and held him in his arm.

“Yeah, they look like they’re ready to party.” He said jokingly with a smile. He had to figure something out fast.

Levana just briefly nodded and offered this Chishan a sad smile when he asked more about her insinuation of Mathilda being dead, but internally she cursed herself for bringing it up. She just hoped that we wouldn’t ask for details, because it wasn’t exactly a story that she wanted to tell him now, considering their Mathilda had been sucked through a wormhole to another dimension and there had been no possibility to bring her back. Even if he would ask more about what happened, there was no way in hell she would tell him that part, she would come up with some other story if necessary, last thing she needed was for him to freak out again.

She softly sighed when he didn’t continue on the subject and walked away to take a shower instead. Her research wasn’t helping much, it seemed it was about time to get help from some real professionals in the field. Levana picked up the cell phone Mimi had given her and went through the numbers. Truth was there were only a handful numbers in there, but luckily one of them was of Dr. Briefs. The scientist from Capsule Corp. was her best option to get this situation solved, if not her only option even.

Waiting always seemed so much longer when you are nervous, this time was no different as it felt like forever before the man finally picked up his phone.

“Dr. Briefs, this is Levana, I’m sorry to bother you, but I have really need your help and better sooner than later,” she started to explain and waited for the answer from the other side. She felt a bit relieved when he immediately agreed to help, “Thanks you so very much! I’ll be there in half an hour.”

She put the phone down again and was about to look for her shoes, when Chishan suddenly rushed out of the bathroom like a madman. There he stood in the middle of the living room, looking like he had seen a ghost, still soaking wet and with only a pink towel wrapped around his waist.

It didn’t really bother her to see him like that. She used to train, swim and even live together with the Chishan from her own timeline and a bunch of other guys, so she got quite used of seeing half naked men, as long as they kept it decent and still wore a short or towel in this case, she was fine with it. This alternative Chishan didn’t look bad actually, he was still in pretty good shape, though he was definitely less muscular than the one she knew. She would have to admit that her friend was more attractive and that she would prefer him over….… Oh shit, where did that suddenly come from?! She quickly shook of the weird idea, but probably her cheeks turned slightly red anyway.

“Wow, easy. Calm down! Why are you getting so nervous over that now?” she said while she stood up and walked over to him, “Don’t worry about that, I mean, I can guarantee you nothing will happen between your wife and my friend if that is what you are worried about? Like nothing will happen between us either, as I explained before….”

Again she put stood right in front of him and forced him to look at her, like she had done when he ran downstairs and stood totally shocked on the pavement, “Listen, we will fix this, I promise! I can’t guarantee you will be back in time for your… romantic weekend, but you will go back home!” she continued, almost sounding like a mother instead of a friend, and she hoped he would relax a bit again, “We’re going to visit Dr. Briefs, he will help us. So get dressed and in the meantime I’ll clean up this mess,” she said while pointing at the puddle of water on the floor.

****************************

“Alright, then I guess it’s time for us to go, have a nice weekend!” Mathilda smiled at Levana and Chishan before she turned to the kids, “Say byebye mommy, byebye daddy”

Apio also gave them a last nod and then he IT himself together with Mathilda and the four children back to their ship.

“Bye!” Levana smiled and waved at them as they vanished from the room.

However the smile quickly vanished though once they were completely gone and she turned to her husband while she folded her arms on her chest. The look on her face was a weird mixture of love, disappointment and compassion.

For a long moment she stared at the man she loved so dearly, the father of her children and sighed before she continued, “Alright explain me what the hell is going on here, but please don’t tell me that this is another breakdown like we had last year.”

She had noticed something was wrong form the second she opened the door for him, of course she noticed it, she knew him all to well. The unbuttoned shirt, the way he spoke, the way he walked even and that tattoo he seemed to have on the side of his body. What was had gotten into him?

“Oh honey, I know it’s hard sometimes and we don’t spend that much time together as we used to…but…,” she didn’t finish her sentence but instead just softly sighed again, as the look in her eyes softened a bit again. This was supposed to be their weekend, she honestly wasn’t up for another ‘I want to travel the galaxy again’ episode… she was just too tired.

The alternate Chishan had a momentary lapse. He’d forgotten that the Chishan there—the one from this universe—wasn’t romantically entangled with Levana. That simple thought had left his mind in that short time span and he had honestly worried that his wife was about to be taken away by another man. Though technically it was still him at some level so it wouldn’t constitute as being taken by someone else. Then again, they were two completely separate people and-…

This was getting more confusing by the minute.

He took a moment to shake his head even before she walked over to him, realizing his mistake. She took him by the shoulders and reassured him once more, just like she had down on the street. And honestly, he had reined himself in enough to hear her words and nod emphatically. “I know, I know,” He said, steadying his breath carefully. “Sorry, I just had a moment of panic,” He pulled his gaze up to look at her as he debated telling her why this weekend was so important. He toyed with it for only a moment before he decided to just go ahead. “This is the first time we’ve had a chance to get away from the kids. I love them to death of course but sometimes you just need a break,” He said with a short laugh. “And there were other reasons…”

He lowered his head slightly and a slight blush graced his cheeks. “We had been talking about having another child too. We love the kids and we just…we want a big family,” He rubbed the back of his head carefully. “Sorry, I shouldn’t be saying this. I know it makes you uncomfortable,” He reached up and gave her arms a squeeze before he pulled them off of his shoulders.

Dr. Briefs; a name he recognized. The Briefs family was just as important and prestigious in his universe, though he’d never had the chance to meet any of them. Luckily it seemed Levana had a good relationship with them. He blinked as she pointed down and suddenly realized the mess he had made. “Oh jeez, I’m sorry. Here let me get that.” His hands went to the towel around his waist naturally, an act he had done more times than he could even think of.

But as he began to pull it free, he remembered again where he was. Blushing much heavier, he laughed awkwardly and took a step back. “Or I’ll go grab another towel! Yeah, that’s a better choice!” Another clumsy laugh escaped his mouth as he took off down the hall and disappeared into the bathroom, door slamming shut.

- -

Matilda and Apio took the kids, each one of them grinning wide at the prospect at looking over the children. It actually warmed his heart to know that the Apio of this timeline was so intent on being an uncle and caring brother. Not that his Apio would be any different but…it was just enlightening. He gave the group a short wave before they were gone, transmitting who knows where. An Apio with Instant Transmission; now that was hard to wrap his head around.

But when Levana turned back to him, there was a new look on her face. Concern for him it seemed. His brow furrowed for a quick moment before she sighed and began to speak. A breakdown? This universe’s Chishan had a breakdown? On the other hand, this was an opening for him to explain before things got too out of hand.

He waved his hands in front of him as she tried to understand what was happening with him. “No, that’s not it at all Levana.” He said firmly, dropping his arms to his sides. Then he took a deep inhalation through his nose before he met her gaze. “This is going to sound strange and I just…I want you to bear with me. This isn’t a breakdown or a midlife crisis or anything. I’m…” He paused for a quick moment before he continued. “I’m not your Chishan. I am Chishan but I’m from another universe, another…dimension. I was with you, my version of Levana, when I was suddenly teleported here. I’m only assuming your husband, your Chishan, was put there in my place. I’ve been trying to figure out how to get back and that brought me here.”

He rubbed the back of his head. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to…pretend to be your husband. But I thought it would be worse if I just blurted it out in front of your kids. I wanted to wait until it was just the two of us before I explained.”

Luckily this Chishan calmed down quickly as he realised that there was absolutely nothing to worry about considering his wife and his alternative self.

“Good,” she replied briefly.

It was weird though, the more time they spend together, the more obvious it became that the two Chishans were two totally different people. Levana couldn’t imagine that her friend would completely freak out over anything really, like the other one had done just now. It made her wonder what kind of person her alternative self was… Would she also be so completely different? The fact that she was married to Chishan and had four (!) kids with him, suggested that she was pretty different. She would have to ask her Chishan when he got back… The feline girl would have assumed that your personality stayed the same, after all, that was what determined who you were. But maybe circumstances and environment had far more influence on a person's behaviour then she imagined, this office/father Chishan at least proved as much.

When he continued to tell about their plans for a romantic weekend away and their plans to have yet another child, Levana could just stare at him for a moment without saying anything, before she cleared her throat, “Another child… wow…that’s…”

Honestly she just didn’t know what to say, she didn’t want to sound negative or horrified, but she couldn’t really be happy for him, or them, either. The idea of giving birth again, gave her the odd feeling of phantom pain and her hand automatically went to her stomach. How the hell did she turn in a baby factory in this other timeline? She didn’t even like kids all that much, not that she hated them of course, just… no thanks.

“NO!” she yelled probably harder than really necessary and quickly turned away from him, when she noticed he was about to take off the towel. Oh god, she hoped she would feel less awkward about the whole situation by now, but for some reason he just seemed to manage to make things worse….

“Just… get dressed, so we can leave, please,” she said while she was still standing with her back towards him and she already regretted being so harsh on him. It was an absurd situation for all of them after all, before she continued much more friendly again, “I’m sorry… I’ll clean this up, it’s okay.”

When he was gone again she sighed softly. It was rather comical actually and hopefully this was something she would still be joking about with Chishan in some years, but as long as the problem wasn’t fixed, she didn’t feel like laughing at all.

The Saiyaness quickly looked for a floorcloth and cleaned up the water, before she finally put on her shoes and grabbed her jacket and keys.

“Alright, let’s go,” she said when he returned and already walked to the door, when she suddenly stopped and looked back at him, “Eum, you do know how to fly right?”

It sounded like a stupid question, but by now she wasn’t certain of anything anymore.

*****************

Levana quietly stared at the man who was supposed to be her husband. This was even worse than what she imagined he would say. A motorcycle? Okay. A tattoo? Maybe. Dying his hair blond again? No way!

Was he joking or was he completely going insane by now? He seemed to be deadly serious though and it scared her. Or he just really believed in his own twisted fantasy or… it was true. But another timeline? That made no sense and yet it made perfect sense at the same time.

Suddenly her hand lashed out and hit him hard on the cheek,” How dare you pretend to be my husband! You even kissed me, you pervert!” she brought out, though maybe more in a shock reaction than real anger, “Oh wait… your Levana? Are you saying my husband is hooking up with another woman now?”

She suddenly started to cry and walked away from Chishan. The care for the kids, the household, her husband's previous breakdown and now this. It was just more then she could handle right now.

Alternate Chishan slammed the door and placed his back against it once more, doing his best to shake the blush from his cheeks. This was so odd and he couldn’t help but laugh at himself for his ridiculousness. His body reacted before his mind could catch up and being in the presence of his wife—or the woman that was his wife in another realm—made him a lot more comfortable than he needed to be. He should be more like her; he could tell practically from the way she winced and tried to smile that she was uncomfortable.

But she was being strong. He wasn’t entirely sure if it was for him or for her version of him. She wanted her Chishan back; the one that was like her brother. And he couldn’t blame her. There was nothing he wanted more than to be with his Levana again, holding her close and telling her how much he loved her.

The alternate Chishan felt regret too. He’d had an episode the year before where he had a bit of a crisis. He was settling into life with Levana and Chishan Junior, she was pregnant with the twins and they had just bought the house after he got a promotion from work. Everything should’ve been going well but he was feeling an old pull on his mind. The need for adventure, to escape from the mundane and face the danger. He had told Levana and it had resulted in a fight, of course. But he had quickly shaken the feeling off, if only to not damage his marriage and family any further. He loved her and them; that he knew without a doubt. And he was willing to let those wanton desires go so he could keep them.

But now that he had gotten his wish, he was more miserable than ever. All he wanted was to be back home and with his family. Holding Levana in one arm while the rest of the kids cuddled in close with the other. His heart lurched forward and he brought a small amount of condensation to his eyes. He had to keep the faith. He had to be strong and he had to get back to them no matter what.

He dressed himself quickly and marched out the door, reaffirmed in his stance. She deemed it time to go and he nodded firmly and began to walk towards the door when she suddenly asked him a quick question.

A slight blush returned and he rubbed the back of his head as he looked at her bashfully. “Uh…I haven’t flown in years. I haven’t used any of my energy in years. I really…don’t remember what it’s like,” He admitted, eyes looking to the ground.

Damnit. He may have just complicated everything.

- -

Her smack was hard and his head jerked to the side. Chishan was utterly surprised by that; he expected a lot of reactions but that was not one of them. She had every right to be angry, of course, but he expected maybe she’d start yelling or something. Nope, her hand had swept forward and crashed into his face and then the yelling came, accusing him of being a pervert.

But then it twisted into something more worrying. The other Chishan hooking up with Levana? Internally he could have laughed; in his universe, they were more like brother and sister than anything else. But he could see the pain in her eyes as the tears began to fall and she moved away from him, her emotions beginning to run amok.

He was quick to run around and stop her, his hands coming up to rest on her shoulders. “I’m sorry Levana. I didn’t mean to take advantage of you like that,” He apologized quickly, though his voice was firm. “But I wanted to talk to you and only you first. It would only upset your kids. And I couldn’t bear the thought of confusing them with something as…ridiculous as this.”

He leaned down enough so that he was looking into her eyes. “But your husband is not hooking up with anyone. I know my Levana and she will be doing everything she can to get him back here to you. And if he’s anything like me, he’ll want nothing more than to come back to his family. I know this is ludicrous but I’m telling you the truth, Lev,” He gave her shoulders a tender squeeze as he tried to reassure her.

“Of course……” Levana replied calmly and she placed her on hands on her hips, when this other Chishan explained he hadn’t flown or used his ki in years. A moment later she started to laugh though as if he had just told her the best joke ever.

She almost expected it, from the way he dresses and acts, that’s probably why she asked about it in the first place. It was just so totally ridiculous: Chishan, the Saiyan Inferno, The Lightning Lord, didn’t know how to fly…. She knew that it wasn’t a fair comparison, this Chishan was a completely different person, but still.

Her laughter quickly faded again when she thought about it a bit longer. Only one little difference in their past seemed to have such huge effects on the rest of their lives and even on the lives the people around them… it was amazing, but scarring at the same time. It seemed that the fact that she ended up with Chishan and not with Strega or he with Mathilda actually made that Mathilda was still alive in his timeline.

That sudden thought was totally overwhelming and almost more than she could handle, while other thoughts started to rush through her head as well. He had mentioned Team Rocket before, but she didn’t know if that meant that they were still together and alive in his timeline.

She knew it was probably a bad idea, but she just had to ask, “Is Strega still alive? And are Rubic, Pan and Mino still with you, does Team Rocket still exist?” The feline girl had the odd feeling that she knew the answer already and she immediately regretted the question.

There was no time to worry about that now though, she could not change the past anyway. She quickly shook of all those awful thoughts and focused back on the present and their current problem.

“You didn’t fly in years… that’s okay, don’t worry about it,” she continued and tried to sound calm again, while she thought about the options to get to Capsul Corp as fast as possible. Of course she didn’t have a car or something, just because she simply didn’t need one. She could call him a cab, but the ride would take pretty long, since they were still in Satan City. Technically she was more than strong enough to carry him, but it would be very inconvenient since he was taller than her and not to mention awkward as well, considering the circumstances she preferred not to hold him too close.

Levana turned her head back to Chishan and silently stared at him for a long moment, before she offered him a friendly smile, “Come on, let’s go, you’re going to fly again!” she said and lead the way to the elevator after quickly locking the door behind them. When they got in the elevator she pushed the button of the top floor instead of the ground floor. She figured it might be easier to take of from the roof, then from the ground in some alley behind the building.

The feline girl quickly stepped out again as they reached the upper floor and walked through the hallway, to the fire exit that led to the roof. She waited for him to catch up, while she looked out over the city underneath. Luckily the weather was okay, it was not raining and it was not too windy either.

“Trust me, Chishan, you can do this,” she smiled, “It’s like riding a bike or swimming, once you learned you will never forget. Your body will remember it and I’m here to help you. Just remember how fun it used to be to fly.”

Her feet slowly detached and she floated a couple of feet above the rooftop, before she nodded at her companion to do the same. While he did so, her mind stretched out and gently wrapped around him to catch him if necessary.

When he was ready, they could finally get on their way.

*************************

“I understand,” his wife replied softly, while he tried to explain why he hadn’t confessed sooner that he was not her husband. Though her thoughts seemed to be far away. She didn’t look at him, she just stared down at her feet. And it seemed like all her strength floated right out of her, she was tired and she didn’t have the will to fight anymore.

She took a deep breath and sighed, while she whipped the tears away with the back of her hands and gently pushed this other Chishans hands away from her shoulders.

When she looked back up at him, her expression became more determined again, there was still a little bit left of the warrior she used to be, “Why is this happening? I did everything I could to keep him safe!”

It didn’t make sense to her, everything seemed to go great up till now. She had managed to keep him away from the Team, both of them hadn’t used their powers in years, as far as she knew at least. It had been a close call though when he had that break down last year and wanted to travel the galaxy again.

“You are not the same Chishan that visited me years ago, right?” she asked a bit suspicious now.

WC 885 / 11,105

Alternate Chishan couldn’t help but join her in laughter. The absolute lunacy of the entire situation just bubbled up inside and let itself out. Here they were; a super powered woman and a man that used to have the same power, trying to find rationality within a ridiculous event. He was from one dimension and she was from another. How could anyone not look at this and at least find some humor in it?

They both seemed to calm down relatively quick, each one’s laugh settling into minor chuckles. He pulled his glasses from his face and wiped the humor-created tears from his eyes as he kept a firm smile on his face. That wavered just a little as she asked him more about his world, more about this Strega and the rest of the Team Rocket crew. He cocked his head slightly to look at her. “As far as I know Strega is still alive. We don’t exactly talk to one another nor do I think my Lev has spoken to her in some time. But yeah, the entire Team Rocket crew is still around. Apio runs it out of his ship with Rubic, Pan and Mino. Heck, they even have Hercule as part of the team! No surprise there though; a group of champions needs Earth’s champion after all,” He explained relatively quickly, rubbing the back of his head.

Odd questions. And why was Strega so important? He might have asked her if she hadn’t quickly changed the subject to trying to fly once more. That same blush came across his face once more at the fact that he hadn’t been keeping up with his training. Who had the time with a full time job and a family to tend to?

Before he could say anything else, she was smiling and telling him he would fly again. “I’m going to what?” He tried to ask as she practically ran out of the apartment and he followed after her, his curiosity far outweighing his embarrassment. He went into the elevator and stared at her, like she would deliver some answer to him there. But no, she didn’t speak again until they were suddenly at the top of the building. She led the path to the room, pushing through the fire emergency door and revealing the warm and bright day they had been in only a few minutes ago.

“Uh…” He bumbled as she tried to reassure him of his potential success. Literal year he hadn’t used his ki; he hadn’t manipulated it any way, shape or form. And now he was just going to try and use it to push himself into the air? He gulped loudly as Levana’s body moved into the air with relative ease, as if she was being picked up by puppet strings.

Remember how fun it was to fly. He watched her for a moment before his gaze shifted to the ground beneath him. Solid, non-threatening ground. He’d survived before without flying, back when he was on Damaskia. But when he had come to Earth…what was it Roshi had taught him? Center yourself. Feel the natural energy that courses through your veins. It is part of you and you are part of it, an ever connected circle of unseen peace, He reached up and pulled his glasses from his face, folding them together as he pushed them into his pants pocket.

Center himself. He placed his feet firm on the ground and apart about a foot and a half.

Feel the energy. His eyelids snapped shut and he blocked out everything else save the sound of his heartbeat. As he did so, he could hear the blood in his veins flowing and…the ki that was coating his blood cells as well. Tiny sparks waiting to be lit, to be grabbed.

Unseen peace. He reached deep inside and found the energy he needed. It surged through him with vigor and renewed force and rushed below him, pulling his body free of gravity and into the air. He lurched forward ascended right to her height as his eyes opened and he looked around carefully. The gleeful grin that spread across his face was just like the one he had when he first learned how to fly.

“I’m doing it!”

- -

This version of Levana seemed to calm down some, much to Chishan’s relief. He let out a sigh through his mouth and relaxed his hands on her shoulders until she pushed them off, collecting herself and wiping the tears from her eyes.

But her words surprised him and his brow furrowed as he looked down at her in confusion. She had done everything to keep him safe? “What are you talking about?” He asked her with concern. This didn’t make any sense; one moment she had been crying about him possibly cheating on her with some other version of Levana and now she was worried about his safety?

What was going on here? As if that didn’t make things more confusing, her last question definitely twisted the screw in and caused his face to further wrinkle in uncertainty and worry. “I’ve never been here before in my life, Lev,” He said softly, eyeing her carefully.

“What other Chishan are you talking about?”

WC: 877/12,568

Levana was nervous, there was no denying about that. She could see that this Chishan was really focussing and trying to do his best to find his ki again, but still it seemed to take forever before his feet finally detached from the ground.

A happy, goofy grin, similar to his curled on her lips, when he managed to lift off again. He seemed as happy as a kid in a candy store.

“Good! I told you, you could do it!” she smiled friendly, before she slowly floated further away from the roof, “Come on, let’s go.”

She would wait for him to catch up and than stay with him of course, since she had no idea how fast he was. Just to be sure, she also still kept her mind reaching out to him, if he would fall she could catch him with her telekinetic ability.

The flight took longer than when she was alone of course, but it was still better than public transport. Finally they made it to Capsule Corp and Levana landed softly on the pavement in front of the main entrance. When they entered the lady behind the desk immediately recognised her, there weren’t that many white haired cat ladies walking around here after all, and nodded that she could proceed to Dr. Briefs office. Levana returned the nod and quickly walked over to the elevators to go upstairs. Second floor, left hallway and last door on the right.

When they arrived at the office she knocked, but instead for they usual ‘enter’ call, the doctor immediately opened the door himself. Clearly he had been waiting for them.

“Levana, Chishan, nice to see you, please sit down,” he greeted them friendly and pointed at two chairs, before he sat down behind his desk, “So tell me about this emergency, how can I help?”

*********************

What was she talking about? For a long moment she stared at this other version of her husband, wondering if she could trust him or not. She had no idea what his intentions were, maybe he had caused all this on purpose. Maybe she should have kept Apio there, when she confronted him with his deceit, however that might have made things even far more complicated than they already were. She couldn’t bare the thought of telling the secret that she had been keeping for years now. Nobody knew and nobody was supposed to know, everything had been perfect up until now. Why did it have to change?

Truth was, she did not really trust him, but it seemed that she did not have much choice if she wanted to get her husband and father of her children back.

She cleared her throat and turned her head, so she could look out of the window instead of looking at him, while she started to explain, “It was another Chishan, he looked a lot like my husband and like you, but he was older and had blond hair, apparently because he stayed as Super Saiyan all the time. He said he was from the future…”

She paused for a moment and looked back at him, kind of expecting that he would call her crazy, before she continued, “We didn’t believe him of course, I mean it’s a ridiculous story, right? Apio and Chishan didn’t want to listen to him… So a bit later he approached me alone, telling me that I should keep Chishan from getting stronger if I wanted to save his life and the lives of everyone we cared about…”

Levana sighed and the tears started to burn behind her eyes again. It had been so long ago, she had tried not to think too much about that period, she even suppressed most of it… so having to talk about it now to a stranger was just painful.

“We had a very long talk, me and that older Chishan, he told me stuff that had happened in the past, things that he couldn’t have known… and then he started to also tell me things that would happen in the near future. Of course I told him he was insane and to get lost. But then things started to happen exactly as he had predicted. So, I had no choice but to believe him…”

WC 714 / 11,819
TWC 24,386

It was Levana urging him to do it. It was her confidence, her support that had helped him push the boundaries of what he could do once more and take to the air. If there was ever a moment more he wanted to kiss the woman that looked like his wife, it was right then and there.

Luckily, he did not. He was elated and feeling a bit invincible but he wasn’t about to make everything strange by showing her more affection than she would want. He turned that want into a grin that plastered itself across his face as they took off in the direction of Capsule Corp. He was in the air but he, by no means, had regained any sense of being able to go quickly. He felt a little bad that she had to hang back because of him and he tried to force himself in certain intervals to go a bit faster.

But it still took them awhile to get there. All the while he could feel an almost air about him, like there was some kind of safety net waiting to catch him if he fell. He tried to think of what it could possibly be. In truth, he figured it was probably just the comfort he had in knowing she was near him, ready to jump and save him if his concentration broke and he fell towards the ground. He glanced at her briefly and did his best to hide the slightly flushed and bashful smile that twisted his face. He had to remember she wasn’t his wife. This was a different Levana.

The building was huge and alternate Chishan marveled at it a bit. He’d never been to the Capsule Corp headquarters in his reality and he was quite astonished by it. The rounded structure loomed over them and the Saiyan couldn’t help but stare as followed Levana inside. Apparently she was known enough inside that they were practically ushered right to Dr. Briefs’ office. He half expected to find the younger CEO, Bulma, waiting for them. But instead it was the older man who greeted them at the door.

He seemed to know Chishan, at least this dimension’s one. The alternate one was a bit star struck at the sight of such a powerful and well-known man. He scampered to the chair and sat down, trying to shake the stupefied look on his face.

Apparently it was up to him to explain. “Uh well…see, I’m Chishan but not the one from this universe. I was somehow…transported here by some weird light and I switched places with this world’s Chishan. As far as we know there was no device or reason for it; I was standing in my office one moment and the next I was here, standing in front of Levana,” He said, nodding to the woman beside him.

- -

Older and had blond hair. Chishan’s hand instinctively went to his head and ran his fingers through his golden locks. If that wasn’t disturbing enough, the fact that he claimed to be from the future…He’d had enough of versions of himself coming back to give warnings and preach about the incoming danger that was never truly seen. Yet she looked at him for some complaint of how crazy she sounded but he simply continued to watch and listen.

After she had finished, he stood there for a moment processing. His eyes flickered between her and a small area on the wall as he attempted to rationalize everything. As if being transported to a new dimension wasn’t enough, now there was all this. “In my timeline, there’s also a Chishan from the future,” He said softly, bringing his attention back to her. “He spoke of a future that was lifeless, save for him and a few others. I didn’t believe him either; part of me still doesn’t.”

He paused as his lips pursed. “But things are drastically different between our two realms. Team Rocket is no more; Rubic is still around but Pan is gone and Mino is…” Was it right to call Minosha dead at this time? “…well, he’s not as close with the rest of us.”

He sighed through his nostrils. “But whoever this future Chishan was…he wasn’t entirely wrong. People got hurt because I kept getting stronger. In my realm, I was with Matilda and you were with a man named Strega. Matilda…she was taken from me,” His gaze averted a little at the painful memory. Seeing her this day had brought back a lot of those old feelings, painful memories he had locked away.

He looked back to her, his brow crinkling with concern. “Does your Chishan know about all this?”

Dr. Briefs blinked his eyes a couple of times and pushed his glasses a bit backwards on his nose, “Oh my,” he replied but kept staring at the Saiyans face for a moment longer to search for any possible difference that this was another Chishan.

“You definitely fooled me!” he continued enthusiastically, while he quickly jumped back up from his chair and walked around the desk to have a closer Chishan. He kind of looked like a goofy scientist who just had discovered a new species in the middle of the jungle.

“Interesting, very interesting,” he mumbled more to himself than to his guests, before he busted out in a waterfall of questions, “And how are you feeling? Are you experiencing any side effects of the switch? Not feeling dizzy or nauseous? I’d like to run some test if that is okay with you?” he asked, while he was already walking to the door and on his way to the lab.

Levana and Chishan had to get up quickly and almost start jogging to keep up with the enthusiastic doctor, who was still asking questions on the way.

“Just some basic test, nothing to worry about, heart rate, blood pressure… I’d like to take some blood and tissue samples too if you don’t mind. And you spoke of a bright white light, is there anything else you can tell about that? Anything else you remember? Was there something odd right before the swap? A change in air or temperature maybe?

[alig=center]*****************

“Oh really?” she asked in an almost hopeful tone, when he mentioned that there was also a future Chishan in his timeline, who apparently had also predicted a not too bright future. Maybe that would confirm that she was not crazy and that she indeed made the right decision years ago.

Her eyes turned sad again though when he explained that his Team Rocket was no longer together and she nodded briefly, while answering in a barely audible voice, “Just like he predicted…”

The idea of losing Mathilda, Pan and Mino was just overwhelming, surreal even. For so long she had hoped for some kind of sign that she did the right thing by deceiving her husband like that, a sign that things were really better because of what she did. But the fact that in some other timeline their alternate selves did suffer those losses send a ache through her heart, but it also confused her a bit, since she didn’t really know how this different dimension worked, “You mentioned your Levana, but… are you guys not together? Didn’t she not try to save you like I did?”

She got even more confused and frowned slightly, when he explained about the relationships in his realm, “Me and Strega? I haven’t seen him in years, but anyway that is impossible he…eum… wasn’t really into women. And you and Mathilda? Really?”

Levana thought about it for a moment, but the idea actually sounded a bit comical to her, “My husband and Mahtilda didn’t really get along in the beginning, for a long time she was furious of him because he had a one-nighter with her sister, Monica. That was before he and I got together by the way. We thought she would never forgive him, but then she and Apio started dating and slowly things became better again, after all she is like our sister-law now.”

Her eyes then shifted back to a darker shade of blue and she remained silent longer enough for him to guess the answer to his last question already, “Chishan didn’t want to believe it, so in the end we stopped arguing about it… So, no he doesn’t know or doesn’t want to know maybe…”

Again she paused for a long moment while staring out the window, though looking back at those moment three years ago, instead of really looking outside, “I hoped that if he was attracted to me, I would have a big influence on him, that I might be able to convince him to stay on Earth, so when we entered the Hyperbolic Time Chamber I started to flirt with him and one thing led to another… by the time we got out again, I was pregnant of Junior.”

Husband Chishan, which was really the best way to define him, stared back at Dr. Briefs as the human man studied him. He half-expected Levana to intervene with some kind of anecdote of information he might have missed or jumped in to help with the explanation but that simply didn’t happen. Instead the elder man popped up from his chair and came around to get closer to the Saiyan, inspecting him like one of his projects. And, to a point, that’s kind of what he had become. “I could have fooled you…?” The husband asked, blinking. “Did you know me or something?” It was a question half-wrought with awe. The idea that his other dimensional self knew and even interacted with the brilliant scientist before him…well, that was quite the wonder.

Dr. Briefs unleashed a torrent of questions upon the bewildered man and he let out a few short bursts of noise to answer but another question quickly dismantled any chance of him answering. And then when there was a short lull, the older man was already walking out the door and towards some other part of the building. The husband popped up from his chair and ran after the doctor who was still happily chattering away about what he wanted to do. Of course that came with even more questions.

“I mean I don’t feel dizzy or anything. I haven’t seen any side effects as of yet,” He said, now suddenly self-conscious of his body. Had the swap done some damage to him? “There was a rushing sound, like a wind was blowing around me. I didn’t feel anything until the light filled my vision. I was simply in my office and then I wasn’t. It all happened so quickly that I wasn’t entirely sure what had happened. I only stayed calm because I saw Levana there and thought it was my wife.”

He turned slightly to look at the Saiyaness. Hell, if she hadn’t been there…he may have lost his damn mind.

- -

So this future version of himself had predicted Team Rocket would fall apart…interesting.

Ramuh had done a lot during his time in his dimension but he’d done very little predicating. He chose rather to focus on riddles and stories that didn’t seem to have much impact. He warned of danger but never offered clues or hints to what that may entail. Whoever this other future Chishan was…he definitely was a lot more forthcoming with information at least. Even if it was still rather dark…

Chishan shook his head softly. “No, we’re not together. She’s more like my sister than anything else. I don’t think I’ve once thought of her romantically,” He admitted, his gaze staying on the woman in front of him. Even now, looking at her in a realm where they were married, his attraction to her bordered on the familial rather than the romantic. “She’s saved me a number of times. We’ve saved each other a number of times,” His gaze shifted just a little bit. “But I feel like I haven’t done enough for her…that I could always do more.”

It felt strange to confess his worries about one Levana in front of another Levana.

His attention flickered back to her as she explained about Strega of this realm being…well, less enthusiastic about women. And then came the news that her husband, his doppelganger, had hooked up with Monica at least once. And in spite of himself, he began to laugh. “Monica? Your Chishan hooked up with Monica?” Even saying the words himself made his laughter grow and he had to take a moment to collect himself. “I could never in my life sleep with Monica. Kais, this is nuts,” He shook his head. The more he learned, the more bizarre things became.

Her silence to his final question was telling enough. Understandable; even he would be skeptical of a person coming back and trying to warn him about future events. He’d been wary of Isu doing so, even Ramuh had been met with a cautious eye and ear. But what truly disturbed him was what Levana said next. His face wrinkled with something new that this Levana hadn’t seen yet.

Insult.

“So what you’re saying is you seduced him into falling in love with you and then got pregnant so he couldn’t go back on adventures?” He said, his voice a bit colder than it had been before. He scoffed and looked away from her, more than annoyed. Yes, she had done it out of some honorable protective means but it was still deception. Tricking Chishan into falling for something so he wouldn’t do another.

Even if the husband version of him wasn’t willing to believe his future self, Levana should have explained her actions. “That isn’t right, Lev,” He said, his eyes darting around the room. All of what they had built, everything that had brought together to make a family, had been founded on a lie. Or so it seemed. “Did you do it just to protect him? Or did you actually love him as well?” He finally asked, looking back to her.

His words moved her and Levana felt sorry for the guy, she really did, after all he was her friend in some very weird way. And she also felt sorry she had been a bit hard on him before, all in all he was handling the whole situation quite well. She couldn’t imagine how she would have reacted if it had been the other way around; if she was the one that got stuck in some alternative universe. So she decided she could be a bit gentler to him, or at least try, and she placed her hand on his arm to give him a soft squeeze, while she smiled at him. Trying to say as much as ‘It’s alright, everything will be okay soon’.

Levana and Chishan quickly followed behind the doctor as he entered a room, which held the middle between the examination room of a GP and a laboratory.

“You can take a seat over there and please take off your shirt,” the old man said and pointed at the examination table, while he started to gather a statoscope, some tubes to collect blood and even a mobile heart monitor.

“Eum, doctor, I’m sure this is all very interesting… but eum, we’d like to know if you can get him back to his timeline and bring our Chishan back here?” Levana asked hesitating, afraid that she might not like the answer. But she had to ask at some point, so sooner than later right.

The doctor stopped and looked at the both of them. He had been so excited by with all the research he had in mind, that he seemed to have forgotten that the two men had to be swapped again, “Eum, right, right… well, I am not sure actually, so far the portals we opened where random. I never tried to reach a specific dimension, I’m not saying it is impossible, but I need the correct time-space coordinates to do that.”

That was not quite as positive news as she had hoped for, it did make sense though. She took Chishans hand and squeezed it again, while slowly she started to think that maybe they would not be able to fix this.

********************

His tone was cold and his words even colder and they hit hard. Maybe he was right, maybe she shouldn’t have done that, but it was to late to go back now and besides who the hell was he to judge, he wasn’t there he didn’t know what happened.

Levana furiously jumped up from the chair again, so she could face him. For a moment she felt like slapping him again, but this time she controlled herself.

“Who do you think you are?! What gives you the right to talk to me like that? You make it sound like I am some evil mistress who deliberately got pregnant to trap him!” she hissed at this picture perfect version of her husband, “It was not like that at all, I love him, I always have. Yes maybe I seduced him, but is that really that bad? There is always one person who has to make the first move, right. Yes I hoped to have more influence on him if he would fall in love with me too, so I could convince him to be more careful. But I never planned to get pregnant so soon!! I was scared as hell when I found out, I could barely stop crying that first day,” she continued to babble on, while a single tear ran down her cheek again, more because of frustration than sadness.

She had to take a deep breath and calm down for a moment before she could continue, “I swear I never intended that to happen, but he… at first he was shocked too of course, but then he was so excited about having a baby, I can’t even describe how happy he was, he almost immediately proposed too,” she paused again and this time a soft smile appeared on her lips while she remembered those happy times, “So don’t you ever dare to claim that I don’t love him! He is my husband and the father of my children, I love with all my heart, I would give my life for them! And I’m sure my Chishan feels exactly the same…”

Her last words were nothing more than a whisper. Suddenly the thought of never seeing him again overwhelmed her and more tears started to run down cheeks, “I just want him back! Please, bring him back…”

If he wasn’t encouraged before, he was when he felt Levana’s hand on his arm. Husband Chishan looked down at it, a bit surprised by the gentle and fairly loving move before he looked up at her. Her smile bore the message that everything would work out and for some reason, he believed her. Whether it was the fact that he was looking at the face of his wife or the woman who had been nothing but a friendly hand since he’d arrived here (only hours before), it eased his worry a bit.

They entered a new room that seemed to be an outlet between an observation room and a laboratory. Husband Chishan’s attention was taken away from the man in front of him and looked around the place, taking it in. Still the engineer and even more so, given that his occupation circulated the creation and maintenance of heavy machinery. It was a bit overwhelming to be in the lab of the great Dr. Briefs, even if it was a different dimension’s.

“Take off my…okay,” Husband Chishan said, trying to keep up with the still energized man. He chanced another look at Levana, as if he was making sure it was okay, and then slowly began to unbutton the shirt. Unlike normal Chishan, who wore only the essential clothes to be considered decent, Husband Chishan dressed to the nines. The button down was quickly removed and placed gently over the closest chair, folding it appropriately. He had a white tank top underneath that hugged his body tightly and that was quickly dispensed with as well onto the chair.

He glanced at the items being gathered and let out a quick breath through his mouth. He knew that some tests needed to be run so he just needed to keep himself steady. Levana finally spoke and asked the hard question; what were their chances? And unfortunately for them, Doctor Briefs answer didn’t exactly inspire hope or confidence. Husband Chishan did his best to keep the faith, keep the hope that had just stepped on a bit.

Levana’s hand finding his helped. He wrapped his fingers around it and squeezed it back gently, a slight manipulation of his muscles that released the tension. In that short moment, he didn’t care if it bothered her that he had responded. He had needed it and she had been the true friend that would do that for him.

- -

Levana’s anger flared again and Chishan met it head-on, his gaze never wavering from hers as she jumped to her feet. He listened to her spiel quietly, his face stiff and firm as his accusations even as she began to tear them apart. Her words had been so sporadic and lacking of detail before that he had been lead to this conclusion about her. And it was he hated to think; she was still Levana, how could she possibly manipulate him in such a way?

Thank the Kais he had overreacted.

It was better he knew than he didn’t. He had been harsh, harsher than perhaps he had meant to be. And the guilt from that rang loudly in him as he watched her fight for her Chishan, fight for their marriage and their life and their children against a man who had just accused her of lying. As more tears began to fall he quickly closed the distance between them and put his hands gently on her arms.

“I’m sorry,” He said softly, any sign of his insult or anger gone as quickly as it had come. How dare he do this to his friend, his oldest and most trusted friend? Even if this wasn’t exactly her she had done everything in her power to protect her Chishan from danger. And she loved him; he could feel it in her words and it made him remember something as well. “I love my Levana as well. It’s not the same as you and your Chishan have but…she’s someone that I’ve known for so long and have relied on for so much. I’ve done everything but tell her that. She’s the only family I have left from a time that I miss,” He confessed, his tone dropping even further.

“I’m sorry,” He reaffirmed again. “That was wrong of me. I should never have doubted you, Lev. No matter what universe, you will always be you. And that is a good, caring person who fights for the people she loves. I should never have doubted you,” He offered a small, sad smile. “And you’re right; I know he feels exactly the same way for you. And that’s why I’m going to do everything I can to get him back to you. I will scour this world and any other I have to. There has to be a way and I will get it.”

“So I can bring your husband back.”

For a moment she felt totally lost, but for some reason this other Chishan still seemed to keep a good faith. All this time she tried to be strong for him, but maybe she needed his support as much as he needed her. When he accepted her hand and gave it a soft squeeze back, it had a remarkable calming effect on her though, as if her was there with her, reassuring her that everything would be alright.

Levana turned her head and locked eyes with him. In those dark brown eyes she saw both the man that was with her now as well as her old friend. Two men so different but yet the same. She could feel their confidence and she smiled again at him, at both of them. They would get through this, everything would be all right again. Soon. And it would be nothing more than an amazing story to tell.

“I’d like to give it a try anyway, doc,” Levana said again to the scientist, her voice sounded hopeful, but her eyes still looked a bit sad, “We have to try, we owe them that much.”

The doctor nodded in agreement, considering the look on his face he was already thinking ahead about the possibilities, “I’d like to do a full body scan, analyze your DNA and everything you had with you from your dimension,” he said to Chishan, “Maybe, just maybe we find an answer there…”

***************************

Normally she couldn’t care less about what other people would say, but his words had hit her so hard because he looked so much like her husband, he even sounded like her husband. And it felt like she had to confess to him what she had done and it made her feel more miserable than ever, the idea that the man she loved would despise her and leave her maybe.

He believed her though, thank god he knew that she was telling the truth and he forgave her. In a strange way she felt relieved when he wrapped his arms around her and tried to comfort her. She happily accepted the hug and wrapped her arms around him as well, while her tears slowly dried up again. It wasn’t really her husband who forgave her, but maybe this was the next best thing. He was also Chishan in some way.

It was weird to hear him talk about his Levana. He mentioned before that they weren’t together in his dimension, but he did love her, that much was obvious. She tried to imagine a different live without her husband and children, but it was just impossible. It was something beyond her imagination, beyond anyone’s imagination probably. That ‘what if…’. What if they hadn’t been married?

Levana couldn’t help it to be so curious, she just had to ask, “So, if you two are not together, what is she like? How is her life? This other Levana I mean. And how is your life?” she thought about what he had said for a moment, before she looked up at him again and locked eyes, “You should tell her how you feel, what she means to you. You can never say too much how much you care for someone. I tell my Chishan almost every day and still, now that he is gone, I feel like I haven’t said it enough…”

She nodded a couple of times when he reassured her that he would bring her husband back and softly pulled away from his hug, while she whipping the last dried tears from her face, “But how? How do we switch you two again?”

Husband Chishan wanted to believe there was a connection there, that this slight gesture of holding hands meant more than it did. Maybe not for the man sitting right there, right then but maybe for Levana. It just felt so right to him; Levana and Chishan together to face down anything that came their way. It had been his life for so long that it was ingrained in him and honestly, he wanted it to spread. Perhaps it was selfish to think he could push this Levana and her Chish together but…

She smiled at him and there was never a moment stronger than then that he wanted to kiss her. He resisted of course; no doubt she would have reeled back or asked him to stop if he did. And despite everything, he still didn’t want to make her uncomfortable. He returned her smile and watched as she turned her attention to the doctor once more; informing him that she would still like to do her best.

“I agree,” He said with a firm nod, locking his gaze onto Doctor Briefs. “We have to try at least.” He was firm in that decision. Even if they failed here today, he would keep on trying to get back to his world and his family.

He looked down at himself quickly before he looked back at the older man. “I’ve got everything I have from the other dimension. But can I go like this into the full body scanner? Or do I need to get into a gown?” He’d been to plenty of doctor’s appointments in his time on Earth and knew that a full scan usually required less clothing. He did his best to hide the blush that attempted to run to his cheeks.

- -

It was odd to hug her. She felt like Levana, even smelled like her too. He held her much like he would his own Levana and admittedly he missed it. He’d only just walked into the apartment and started to talk to her when he had been pulled into this realm. He hadn’t gotten the chance to really catch up with her. And now here he was, hugging her doppelganger from another timeline.

His life was weird.

She asked him about his Levana and he smiled gently. “I mean, she’s still very much like you. She’s friendly and kind. She has a regular job and lives in an apartment on Earth with one of her friends. We haven’t seen or talked to one another much save for lately. I had a few things going on that…prevented me from seeing her,” He told her rather bashfully; obviously ashamed he hadn’t made time for his friend.

“My life is a bit hectic. Full of more danger and drama than even I’m used to. And apparently a terrible lack of manners as I still haven’t buttoned this damn shirt up,” He said—as he was looking down at her—he noticed once more that his clothing was undone. He scoffed and shook his head before he settled his gaze on her once more. “You’re right. We’ve always been close and I always just figured she knew that I loved her but…it would be right to say it. Let her know.” He nodded gently.

She stepped away and her worry over her husband returned. Chishan folded his arms over his chest and thought for a moment. She had a good point; the how of the situation was weighing heavily on his mind. He had seemingly been picked up randomly and tossed to this new realm, without motive or reason. Of course there always was one but the fact that it was hidden was quite annoying. “Time displacement,” He said softly, working onto a possible idea. “You said you had a future Chishan come to you in this timeline as well, right? Well I’ve had at least two people visit me from the future in mine. Time displacement is a hypothetical situation where the river of time malfunctions because people are moving to different points that they should never be able to reach. It tries to fix itself—especially when the future people remain in the present. In theory, that would create pockets that could open between realms.”

He hummed gently. “Supposedly if we can locate that latent energy, we might be able to manipulate it once more. That would mean having to go back to your husband’s office,” He glanced back at her with a small smirk. “Up for a ride?”

“Without clothes preferably, if you don’t mind?” The doctor responded casually to Chishans question, while he was making some more notes about everything he had said so far about the switch and the white light, “Please follow me, the scanner is right here,” he continued while he directed the Saiyan to a separate part of the room that was closed of with a glass wall.

“Eum, I will… get us something to drink downstairs? What do you want?” Levana quickly said and she was already on her way to the door. She wasn’t really thirsty of course, she just didn’t feel like seeing some guy naked, especially not it that man happened to be a doppelganger of her good friend.

“I’m fine thank you Levana,” the scientist replied, so she just briefly waited for Chishans answer, before she disappeared into the hallway.

The feline girl went back the same way they had entered and walked straight up to the drinks dispensers in the main hall. At that point she was basically just running on autopilot, as if her brain needed a moment of rest and just didn’t want to think of anything at all. It was already rather late in the afternoon and besides the one girl behind the reception desk, there was nobody around.

Levana walked to the corner and sat down in the visitors area for a moment. She leaned a little bit back in comfortable blue seat and closed her eyes for some moments, while she kind of hoped that she would wake up again on Mimi’s couch and that all this was a just a really weird dream. Of course that was not the case, when she opened her eyes, she was still at Capsule Corp.

A quick look at her watch told her that she was gone now for about twenty minutes, she assumed that should be enough for that scan and what not. The feline girl stood up and walked back to the lab with the two drinks in her hands. Just to be sure, she knocked the door before entering again. Her timing seemed pretty good, since he had his pants already back on.

“Aha, welcome back, Levana, we just finished,” Doctor Briefs said enthusiastic as always, while he was putting some more data in his computer, “So, that’s it for today, I’ll call you as soon as I have the results!”

It just hit her that he could impossibly have all those lab results analyzed today of course, it would take one or more days even. So, that meant that she would still need to spend at least an evening and a night with the alternative Chishan… Why didn’t she realize that sooner really? Somehow she had apparently been naïve enough to think that all this would have been solved today already. Damn.

***********************

Levana just nodded as Chishan tried to explain why he hadn’t spent that much time with his friend, of course she didn’t exactly know what he meant, but since the triplets she knew everything about a hectic life, “I understand, we also spend far less time with our old friend and family than we would like to. Life just happens eh, and suddenly your three years further and not really sure what happened,” she smiled softly.

Her eyes automatically looked down at his still naked chest, when he mentioned a lack of manners and she grinned, “Oh don’t worry, I’ve seen you naked so many times… EUM… I MEAN, not really you of course… my husband, but you and he… damn it,” her cheeks suddenly went all red and embarrassed she turned away from him, somehow she just thought about her naked husband now and with that she unintentionally also ‘saw’ this Chishan naked, considering they, eum, were the same of course. Shit, this was getting confusing.

The feline girl sighed softly and listened quietly while he told her his theory about the switch and time displacement. It took a bit of effort for her to stay focused on his face though and to not let her eyes wonder off to his chest again. Don’t picture him with clothes.

“Hmm,” she mumbled and cleared her throat before she continued, still slightly distracted, “That sound quite plausible, I guess.”

She had not clue what to do really and he seemed a bit more familiar with these time and dimension travelling things, since he already told before that he also met a future Chishan.

“I want to try anything to get him back,” she stated in agreement to go back to her husband's office, “Okay, let’s go then. You still have our car keys right?”

Husband Chishan gulped softly. Without clothes; of course Doctor Briefs had to say that. His gaze attempted to look to Levana, as if worried that the news would spark some worry in her. Luckily she went on the offensive and removed herself from the equation, offering to grab something to drink. The doppelganger waved his hand gently. “I’m all set. Thanks,” He said, the appreciation more loaded than just for the drink. She was the spitting image of his wife and normally he’d have no problem stripping in front of her. But he’d already made things more awkward when he had erupted from the shower earlier.

“Alright, no clothes then…” Husband Chishan said softly as he waited for the door to shut. He gave an extra moment just in case she rushed in with form forgetful thought but it seemed she was gone. He was quick to dispense of the rest of his clothing and followed the doctor to the separate part of the room where the scanner lay. It was a rather quick process, only taking about half an hour of his time. He was quiet through most of it as was Doctor Briefs, who was seemingly more interested in the data and his notes than the man before him. No surprise there; he was a man of science and the details surrounding that would be far more interesting than the actual person.

He was led back to the original room and instructed to put his clothes back on. Hastily he pulled on everything and was just yanking on his shirt when Levana finally returned, thankfully keeping herself away long enough for everything to finish. He turned to the door as she knocked and then she entered back into the room, causing him to smile softly.

He sat himself back on the examination table and was finishing the buttons when the Doctor announced that they had done everything they could for the day. It shocked the husband from the other realm; there had been a part of him hoping that Doctor Briefs would find data immediately and be able to come up with a solution. But now they had to wait for the man to call them. That could take upwards of a day to multiple days! He did his best to hide his disappointment, his eyes boring holes into the ground.

With a soft sigh he turned his gaze back to Levana. “So now what?” He asked her, shrugging his shoulders. “I do have some cash on me. I can always get a hotel room or something,” He offered, trying to think of the best means for his situation. Preferably he’d like to stay close to Levana but he wasn’t sure if that was the husband part of him wanting to be near his wife. Either way, he waited for her input as he stood there.

“Three years,” Chishan mused for a moment, shaking his head softly. “It’s hard to believe we’ve known each other for three years at this point. Even in this dimension. Though I guess if you tack on the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, that adds a couple of years onto it,” He said with a small laugh, rubbing the back of his head.

If Levana’s cheeks went red, then Chishan’s were practically scorching from her words. She turned away from him, obviously embarrassed and all he could really do was laugh awkwardly at her statement. “Yeah I guess…I guess that’s true,” He bumbled out through his short, quick, inappropriate chuckles. “Man four kids…I don’t even have that many in my world,” He calmed down slightly as he thought back to Zara and Anna with a bit of a smile.

He rambled on with his theory, the pieces coming together a bit in his head. It was still hypothetical and really had very little facts to go on but it was the best first step he could think of at the time. And a first step always helped to lead to the next one after. So he opted to start there and work his way up.

She agreed she wanted to get him back and he nodded firmly. But that stoic nature of his melted away a moment later into something akin to bashfulness as she asked about the car. “I actually didn’t grab them. I sort of…jumped here? And now that I think of it, I teleported from the office to the street so I don’t even know where it is!” Once more, awkward laughter burst from his mouth as he rubbed the back of his head, his boyish charm more than present now.

“I have an idea!” He said and without asking for permission—as was his nature—he moved forward and pulled her into his arms, picking her up much like a gallant knight would for his damsel in distress. Before she could get a word in edgewise, they were gone from the house and suddenly in the air above her home, his energy naturally grabbing onto him and keeping him in the air.

“I’m sure you know where the office is. You tell me what city and I’ll get us there in no time!” He said with a grin, looking down at her with nary a worry.

From the look on his face she could tell that he probably had the same naïve idea or hope, whatever you want to call it, that he would be practically back home by now and not that he had to spend the evening and the night with in a strange city, in a strange world even with a woman that looked exactly like his wife.

“Don’t worry about it,” she briefly answered, before turning to Dr. Briefs and reaching out to shake his hand, “Thank you very much for your time, doc, let us know what you find. Anything at all.”

“It was my pleasure, Lev, and think positive! I’m sure something will come out of these test results,” the scientist replied while he shook her hand and then turned to Chishan to do the same.

Levana walked outside again with Chishan right behind her and led the way back though to the entrance, “Don’t be silly, you’re not going anywhere! You can sleep in Mimi’s bed, or I sleep in her bed and you use mine, whatever you prefer,” she answered as if it was just the most normal thing to do. And actually it was, she would do the same for her Chishan or any other friend that needed help, so why not. Like, they were just two adults sharing an apartment, not even a room or a bed. How bad could it be right? Besides she would just feel more comfortable to knowing that he was close and no other weird stuff would happen again, hopefully.

Levana stopped once they were back standing outside on the pavement and looked at her new roommate, while she started to think of some more practical stuff for the rest of the day.

“Eum, maybe we need to buy you an extra shirt for tomorrow and a tooth brush?” she offered and then also realized that she did not have enough food for a proper meal for two, “And I wasn’t really expecting a guest, so… I guess it’s best be go for dinner somewhere. Any preference; Chinese, Mexican, Thai, hamburgers?”

Yep, an awkward conversation or an awkward silence, while sitting in a restaurant and no possibility to escape, just what they needed to make this day really perfect, “Or we can order some take out?”

*******************

“Oh, but you do have children?” Levana asked curiously and she was very grateful that the topic shifted to something else than his unbuttoned shirt, when me mumbled something about the kids.

She was almost on her way downstairs already, when he explained that he did not come there with their car, but actually ‘jumped’. The feline girl looked very confused and for a moment she had honestly no idea what he was talking about. Few seconds later she did understand what he meant though and offered him a little smile, “You mean something like the instant transmission that Apio used here before?” she asked him, though it made sense that it was exactly what he meant, “I didn’t know you could do that, I mean my Chishan never learned it. I can even hardly remember the last time we flew somewhere.”

Suddenly she felt slightly embarrassed when she heard herself admit that they had all this powers and abilities but never used them anymore. There would probably be plenty of people that envied them for it, but no they just didn’t use it anymore, “Well, if have to you shopping with four kids a large car is just more convenient than flying or teleporting I guess…” It was not like they deliberately decided to not use it anymore, it just kind of happened along the way.

Levana looked back at him when he said he had an idea, but before she could ask what it was, he suddenly pulled her close and even picked up her up in his arms, “WOW! WAIT! What are you doing?!” she screamed, while she struggled to get free again, “PUT ME DOWN!”

Her words were partially lost in the wind, as they were suddenly teleported outside. A mild breeze rustled through her long white hair, while flying high above the city. She slightly panicked when she looked down, and instead of pushing him away she wrapped her arms closer around his neck. Her mouth opened briefly to say something, to curse him, to yell at him, but no sound came out.

When he asked her the address of her husband's office, it took several second before the question actually reached her brain and then some more seconds to process it, “Eum, West City, Main Street…” she finally managed to say.

She seemed to calm down a bit for the moment, but boy, would he regret ever doing that to her when they would be back on the ground.

“Yes, thank you Doctor Briefs. You’ve been a great help,” Husband Chishan said, taking the man’s offered hand and shaking it. Despite the setback and the foreboding news that he would be stuck here for at least a night, the older man had done everything he could to assist them and the husband was truly thankful. He gave the doctor a wave and followed Levana as she left.

She offered the use of the apartment and his blush was already beginning to rise up in his cheeks. It was an awfully nice thing to do, even besides the fact that they were friends in this world and married in another. Given everything, they may as well have been strangers. But she still showed her compassion and caring for him and it was flattering. “I-I’ll sleep in Mimi’s bed or the couch. I don’t want to be any trouble,” He said softly, feeling all sorts of shame. Even if her roommate wasn’t there, it felt like he was putting a lot of pressure on Lev to house him.

The air had grown chilly outside and the sun’s light was fading behind the horizon, leaving them in a state of almost illuminated. The street lights had come on and painted their rounded glow on the pavement in front of Capsule Corporation. Levana stopped and looked at him as she created a short list of things that needed to done and gathered. He glanced down at himself and chuckled a little. “Yeah a new shirt might be a good idea…maybe something to sleep in. Toothbrush…” He made his own little checklist before his head popped up to look at her. “What? No no. If you’re housing me, I’m cooking you dinner. It is literally the least I can do for you after all the trouble you’ve gone through to help me,” It was the most firm thing he had said since he got here, incapable of budging.

“Let’s go to the closest market. I know exactly what to cook.”

“West City, Main Street. Got it,” Chishan said, clearly oblivious to her annoyance with him. He’d heard her protests but they had fallen on deaf ears. This was the best way to get to the office and definitely the quickest so without a second thought, he had chosen it. He turned his body enough to face the direction of West City and—with a loud pulse of energy—was soaring forward. He went at a comfortable speed that wouldn’t put too much pressure on the woman in his arms while also giving him a chance to speak.

“To answer your question, yes. I have two children, two daughters. Zara and Anna,” He said to her, smiling as he looked at the sky ahead. “Anna is more of a creation, having been made by my DNA from Aria. Zara though; she was conceived naturally. I don’t know if it happened here but there was a massive war among the major nations of the galaxy a few years back. I eventually grew attached to a Saiyan Scholar during it. She was the mother of my child,” He told her relatively calmly and slowly. She’d told him an awful lot about her world, it seemed only right he pay it back in kind.

“It kind of seems like Apio of this world is like me in mine. Involved in the major happenings of the galaxy, working with a team, knowing how to use instant transmission. It’s a bit incredible actually when I think about it,” He mused out loud, oddly impressed and proud of his doppelganger brother. He turned his attention back down to Levana in his arms, grinning. “So why don’t you try it? Flying, I mean. Here; I’ll stop for a moment and let you down and you can try it. Don’t worry, I’ll keep holding your hand just in case,” He offered, his pace slowing a bit. She seemed a bit slighted over the fact that she hadn’t used her powers in a long time and he wanted to give her a chance to find it again. He continued to smile. “It’s worth a shot, right? All you have to do is believe you can do it. I know I do.”

“You will cook us dinner?” Levana repeated just to make sure that she understood correctly, before she started to laugh and softly shook her head at the idea. She didn’t meant to offend him, she was not laughing with him, it was just whole situation where she tried to imagine her Chishan cook something, “Oh, I’m sorry,” she said in between the laughter and then gestured him to walk along to the closest supermarket, “That’s really nice, It’s just that I remember the last Chishan cook for us and yeah…. It was when we first formed team rocket and we didn’t have many other crewmembers yet at that point, so we kind of had a task list for cooking, cleaning, everything really. But after Chishans first cooking session we quickly agreed to look for more crew and definitely a cook.”

The funny anecdote made her really smile again and she grinned at the full blood Saiyan. Those happy memories, it was hard to believe that it was almost three years ago already.

She then turned slightly more serious again; when he claimed to be causing her trouble and she stopped walking to look at him, “Don’t say that, we’re friends. I’m sure you would do the same for me, no matter which universe,” she said firmly and without really thinking about it she wrapped her arms around him for a comforting hug like she would have done with other Chishan as well. At that point it kind of slipped her mind that he was married to an alternative version of herself and that she might actually make him feel more awkward about it than she was. It didn’t last very long and she walked on again.

She would have to admit that it was one of the things she had missed the most ever since travelling alone, just having someone around to talk to and a friendly hug now and then. The weird thing was that she actually only started to realise that ever since she had seen Chishan in the astral realm again and especially when he showed up at the apartment that morning and hugged her. It was amazing how much you could lie to yourself, telling that you are doing just fine and that you don’t mind being alone all the time, while that wasn’t the case at all. She would have to tell him that if, NO!, when he got back.

“Okay, this is it,” she nodded at a giant store right in front of them, “If you can’t find what you are looking for in here, you won’t find it anywhere.”

She would just let him lead the way now, since she had no idea what he wanted to buy.

*******************

“Aaagh!” an annoyed scream escaped from her lips again, when he changed direction to West City. She mumbled some other curses at him, but he clearly was not listening, instead he started to happily tell her about his two daughters.

What she heard was absolutely now what she expected, “Wait! Created? What do you mean; created?” she asked confused, did he mean they had her though IVF or something, because it didn’t work the natural way? But that was a very intense and stressful procedure, she knew a couple of women who had done that and it was something you didn’t just decided lightly. So sad, if they went through all that and then split up anyway. He didn’t seemed too bothered actually, since he already had a child with another women too. And since he just referred to her as ‘the mother of his child’, it didn’t sound like they were still together either.

It probably wasn’t right to judge him, but all this gave her a weird feeling. She could never imagine her husband doing things like that, just have children with multiple women. She didn’t even want to think about how things had been, if he would have left her after she was pregnant with Junior. That was just…

This other Chishan had been friendly so far, she could not deny that, but the more time they spend together, the less she really seemed to like him. This macho ‘alpha male’ behaviour started to annoy her more and more. It was in the way he dressed (or not dressed), with his shirt still unbuttoned, showing off his muscled torso. It was in the way he acted; to just pick her up and fly away without asking first, as if he could just do as he pleased. Was he a Neanderthal or something? Some unmannered brute that lived in the jungle, “Me Tarzan, you Jane.” Probably she was lucky he didn’t just drag her along by the hair. And then of course the casual way he spoke about his affairs and children… as if it wasn’t that big deal.

“Hmm, that can explain why Levana is not married to you,” she mumbled, though he probably wouldn’t hear her. He mentioned before that they were not a couple, but for some reason she wondered now if he was sleeping with her anyway, since that didn’t really seem to be an issue for him.

Before she could make another remark though, he suggested she would try to fly herself again all out of the blue, “WHAT!? Are you insane? Uggh…” she responded fierce, damn this guy. Maybe some part of her wanted to try it again, but she was too stressed at that point and she just wanted her husband back as soon as possible, “We don’t have time for some flying lessons.”

Husband Chishan totally could understand why Levana was laughing.

Just like the other Chishan, the husband had been awful at cooking when he first started. Chances are—since their timelines were so similar—that they had almost the exact same kind of mishap. He followed Levana as she led him to the supermarket, laughing along the way as she explained about the first time her Chishan had cooked. “Yeah it took some time for me to get better at it. Really after Lev and I got married is when I decided to take a class. I’m still not what you’d call a world class chef but I can at least make something edible. “

She was right; if she had come to his universe and had the same issue, he would have offered her a place to stay. After all; she was some kind of Levana and that was all that mattered. Before he really knew what was happening, she had turned back to him and was giving him another hug. He stood there and took it, blushing a bit at it. It didn’t feel quite like his wife but it was definitely close. When she parted from him, he offered a small and somewhat bashful smile before he continued along beside her.

She led him to the supermarket and he looked up at it with a sense of familiarity. “Oh yeah, we have these in my timeline. This will work out perfectly,” He said with a confident smile and led her into the building, grabbing one of the metal carriages that rested near the front.

One of the dishes he was most proud of was his spaghetti and meatballs. He moved down each aisle with a purpose; more comfortable here than he had been anywhere else in this universe. He carefully examined each shelf and took what he needed, grabbing the spaghetti, the tomatoes, the white wine, the seasonings and a few other odds and ends. He wasn’t like one of the normal male shoppers; he took his time to look over each box and pick the best ones for what he wanted. Clearly this was something he had practice in.

He bought everything on his own; thank the Kais that money didn’t seem to change between universes. With brown paper bags held in each arm, he walked back out of the store and stopped near the parking lot, looking back to her with a slight bashful grin. “So are we flying back then?”

- -

Wife Levana asked him what he meant and his rather cheerful mood seemed to dark just a tad. He kept forgetting this wasn’t his Levana. He talked to her just as he would his friend and in truth, she really wasn’t. If anything, she seemed less willing to trust him than she would her own husband. He cleared his throat and explained. “Anna was…created by another person using my DNA. I didn’t give my consent but it happened nonetheless. I wasn’t told of her birth until after she was already in the world. It’s…extremely complicated,” He said slowly, doing his best to explain it without incriminating anyone. Kais forbid there was an Aria in this universe and Wife Levana knew her. It dampened his mood a bit when he thought about it. “I had lost Matilda right before the war and Cress was…she was a comfort. You—well, other you—had disappeared as well and I was pretty much left alone. Then near the end, I discovered Cress is pregnant with Zara and my DNA was taken at some point in the past to make another child. It was a lot to take in…”

He still didn’t really know why he was telling her all this. But his words ended as his own telepathic connections flared up from his heightened emotions. It didn’t help that she was quite cross with him and he got a full blast of her thoughts and emotions in one go. Even before she lashed out at him about the flying lessons, he’d already gotten the full experience of her…well, her dislike of him.

His flight stopped almost on a dime. Slowly his body drifted down towards the ground until his feet touched down slowly on the sidewalk next to the main road. He set her down gently and stepped away from her, hiding his features a bit. “We’re only a few blocks away from main street. We can walk the rest of the way,” He said simply, his tone not entirely cold but not as warm as it had been. He didn’t wait for her confirmation again, choosing to continue walking ahead and assuming she would follow.

Maybe he was a brute. He’d picked her up without a second thought of what she may have wanted to do. It was something he did; taking the lead as soon as he had a plan. She was used to having a partner; a husband that would immediately bounce ideas off of her and talk things out. He wasn’t used to that, to a point. He’d only begun to experience that with Agatha recently and its impact hadn’t fully connected with him on a spiritual level. But admittedly, her angry thoughts and her comments about Levana not being married to him had cut deep. He swallowed the lump in his throat and shook it away for the moment.

He needed to be focused. He had to get back to his timeline and get her husband back. Her words could be dealt with later.

“Seriously, you took a cooking class? That’s... pretty cool,” she smiled, while she instantly imagined him with a white chef’s cap and an apron. He was a husband and a father, he could cook, … damn that sounded not so bad actually, though four kids was still more than she even wanted to imagine at that point… It was obvious that he was happy with his family and loved them a lot… so why had that not happened for her and Chishan? What was so different about their timelines?

She quickly shook of the idea though. Thinking she could be together with him was just crazy, he would never love her like that…

When they arrived at the market he seemed very calm and confident, like he exactly knew what he wanted to buy. So, Levana followed behind him, just keeping an eye on everything what he put in the metal carriage out of curiosity. It was rather fun in the beginning, but after twenty minutes she was getting slightly fed up. Shopping was not something she liked to do, it had to be fast and efficient. Seriously, how much time could you need to choose between different brands of spaghetti? What was the difference anyway? Levana just sighed softly, but didn’t say anything. They didn’t had to be anywhere, so they might as well take their time.

By the time they finally made it to the check out, she offered to pay half, since it was her dinner too, but she quickly gave up when he insisted to pay for everything himself.

Levana smiled when he asked her if they were flying back, “We can take a cab if that makes you more comfortable?” she offered, leaving the choice to him this time, “If you want to fly I strongly suggest you give the bags to me, so you can focus on your flight and balance, since you only started to fly again this afternoon.”

*****************

“Hmm,” Levana just responded as some sort of ‘understanding’ to his explanation about Anna. Truth was she didn’t understand at all, the story sounded pretty weird to her and if someone had told her this before she probably would have been very suspicious about it. But taking into account that Chishan from the future she met years ago and now this other Chishan who was swapped with her husband and flying around with her in his arms at the moment, anything seemed possible. Maybe she had a rather normal life for too long now, maybe she had become narrower minded like the humans around her. She just was not used anymore of fighting evil, conspiracies and intrigues. But she didn’t see a reason why he would be lying to her about it, so she decided to just take his word.

If she was really honest to herself she would also have to admit that she saw the pain on his face and heard the sorrow in his voice, as he talked about how Anna came into the world. Still it was obvious that he cared for his daughters, no matter what. The pain continued when he explained how he lost Mathilda and that his Levana had disappeared on him as well. Why would she have done that? She couldn’t imagine leaving Chishan behind, she had no idea what she would do without him, probably she would have completely broken down if she would have ended up all alone.

Suddenly she felt bad about her previous words and thoughts about him, maybe he wasn’t such an awful guy after all. Since he came to that realm he had only been kind to her and tried to comfort and help her, given maybe in a slightly odd way but still. It was obvious that he had gone through a lot during his life, maybe that had toughened him up a bit. And then in some weird way, he trusted her enough to tell all this. He trusted her to be supportive and to not judge him…. Because his friend, his Levana, would be like that. A girl, her doppelganger, he talked about with a true love in his voice, even if it was not in a romantic way.

Without any announcement he just landed on the street and quickly put her down again, though they were still some blocks away from her husband's office. She wanted to ask what was wrong, when he declared that they would walk the last part and just turned around and went ahead, but she kept her mouth shut this time. She had seen and felt the change in his attitude and she understood what it meant. She knew her husband well enough, and apparently this guy wasn’t all that different after all in his manners, to figure that her short words and attitude had hurt him.

The feline girl wanted to blame the stress and the fear over (maybe) losing her husband for the way she acted, but that would be too easy. She had judged him without any further thought, a bit like he had done when she told him about how she and her husband got together. After she started to yell at him however, he was quick to admit his mistake, that was probably the least she could offer him now as well.

Levana speeded up a bit so she could walk next to him instead of behind him and softly grabbed his wrist, “I’m sorry, I had no right to say that, you’re only trying to help me here,” She said softly, “I don’t understand all the bad things that happened to you, but I can tell that you truly care about the people you mentioned, Mathilda, Anna, Zara, Cress and …. Levana.”

After that she let go of his wrist again and just quietly walked beside him, without looking at the Saiyan again.

Cool wasn’t exactly the word Husband Chishan would use to describe taking a cooking class. In fact, at the time he had thought of himself as rather lame. But he had grit his teeth and gotten through it, albeit with a bit more grace than he thought he would have. “Well if you say so,” was the only answer he gave her as he gave a rather goofy grin. If only she had known that the class had required him to wear a cap and apron during it. She would have gotten a real kick out of it.

If the husband recognized that she was annoyed with his pace of shopping, he didn’t show it. It seemed a bit more focused on getting the right ingredients. She tried to pay for half of it but he was having none of that. He was the guest and he would provide a meal for her, especially if she was offering her place to stay at.

Truthfully he could have probably flown with the bags if he took the time to concentrate. But it definitely made him a lot more comfortable knowing she was willing to lug them back to her apartment for him. “Sorry about that. Clearly I’m going to have to keep practicing,” He said as he scratched the back of his neck a bit, handing off the bags to her. It took him less time and less concentration this time to get into the air, his glee over the feat much less as well. With all that said and done, he would follow her back to the apartment, his pace a bit faster now that he had gotten the hang of his energy once more.

- -

Was Chishan mad? Maybe a little bit. She had been quick to judge him and let her emotions get mixed up over her husband’s doppelganger without trying to actually understand. Then again, he had done the same thing with her only a few minutes ago, when she explained about her and her husband. They seemed more willing to bash their heads together than keep calm and rationally think on the matter.

In the end, he understood to a point. Things were different between these timelines and those slight changes were having the most impact. Things that were simple to the two of them ended up sounding or looking complicated to the other. She knew a Chishan that had settled down and was happy with his life as a husband and father. He knew a Levana that was still very much part of the warrior lifestyle, who had lost love and even memory. On the one hand, an even and steady life. On the other, one that was wracked with tragedy and danger.

She raced up to his side and took hold of his wrist, stopping him midstep. His head twisted around to look at her even as she apologized, doing her best to understand his situation. “It’s fine,” He said, coming out a bit more coldly than he meant it to. He continued forward for a few more steps before he stopped, letting out a heavy sigh. “This is all very complicated, isn’t it?” He asked her, an obviously ludicrous question given the circumstances.

“I don’t blame you,” He said softly, beginning to walk along once more. “I’m sure if I was in your shoes, I would think the worst of me too. I sound a bit misogynistic I’m sure.” He said, scratching the back of his neck gently.

He continued along quietly for a few moments before he finally worked up the nerve to talk once more. “Tell me about me…or well, me from here,” He said softly, offering a small smile.

Levana gave him a friendly smile, while she took the bags from him, “Don’t worry about it, you did really great before, but I know it’s a bit more tricky when you are carrying something, ” she tried to reassure him that he was doing just fine.

“How come you don’t use your powers anymore actually?” she asked curiously, while she watched him for a moment as he took of and then quickly followed to show the way back to the apartment.

She had to admit that this flight went a lot smoother and faster than the first one, not quite at full speed yet, but still they made good progress. When they were about halfway she even figured that he might not need her help anymore so she let go of the telekinetic connection she had set up again the moment they left the parking lot.

A good ten minutes later they were already flying above Satan city again and she decided to land back on the rooftop of the building, since it just offered more space than the rather narrow streets down below. Why be difficult if it can be easy right?

“Over there,” she announced briefly and nodded at a building right beneath them, before she started to descend again. Her feet landed softly and without any sound on the roof and she gave one of the bags back to Chishan, so she would have one hand free to get her keys from her pocket and open the door, after they took the elevator to the correct floor again.

She walked straight to the kitchen and put the bag down on the table, before taking off her jacket and shoes.

“Anything I can do to help?” she asked while unloading the bag and spreading everything out on the table.

*****************

He was pretty quick to answer that everything was fine, when she apologized for her rudeness, though his tone of voice suggested that it wasn’t quite all right. Levana couldn’t blame him though, she would just have to try to keep her thoughts to herself or even not have such harsh thoughts about him in the first place.

As he continued his tone softened a bit again though and she softly sighed, relieved that he didn’t seem to be really mad at her after all. “Hmm, yeah,” she answered briefly when he mentioned that it was just a complicated situation and she just continued to walk silently next to him while starting at the pavement in front of her.

But when he almost agreed with her previous, not so nice, assumptions about him, her head quickly turned to the side again so she could look at him again, “No no! Oh, I didn’t mean it like that, it’s just…” she tried to explain and she felt how her cheeks started to turn red. Damn, she honestly didn’t mean to insult him before, it just came out with thinking.

Levana stared at him for a moment and looked at how he scratched the back of his neck. The expression on her face held a weird mixture of love and sadness, “My husband does that too...”

She blinked her eyes few times to prevent herself from crying again and cleared her throat before she continued to explain what she said before, “I didn’t mean it that bad, actually you remind me a lot of Apio and to be honest his behaviour never really bothers me, though sometimes he can be a little macho…” she said and offered him a sincere smile, “But when I look at you, I still see my husband… I see him in your eyes and in the way you smile…. And the idea of him acting like that is just confusing in some way? I don’t know, I’m just not used of it, it’s hard to explain… Maybe I’m just weird,” she said with a little shrug.

Again they just continued their walk silently next to each other for a little bit, before Chishan asked her more about her husband.

“Eum, sure, what do you want to know?” she wondered and thought about it for a moment, when she realised that they had arrived at his office building in the meantime, “This is it,” she stated and pointed at the building across the street.

WC 720 / 18,093

That was a fairly good question. It was also a really easy one to answer.

“Well after my Levana got pregnant, I knew that I couldn’t go running around the galaxy anymore playing hero,” Husband Chishan began to explain as they flew through the air, his balance and concentration much better than before. He even felt comfortable talking without fear of falling down and crashing into the ground. “So when we got out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, the first thing I did was go and find a suitable ring. A few months later we were married and we began to settle into our everyday lives. At first we still used some of our powers; I would fly to work rather than drive. But after a while we just…sort of fell into the routine of everyone else. It was easier to adapt than to stick out. I don’t think Levana has even thought about her powers in years,” He explained rather casually. To him it was simply recalling a time long gone. And even though he did plan on tapping into his ability to fly once more, he had no grand plans to reteach himself everything.

After all, he missed his family far too much to think about abandoning them ever again.

She pointed out a good spot to land, right on the roof of her apartment building. They came down rather quickly and the husband was quick to take the bag offered, smiling softly as they moved back into the building. Within minutes they were back in her apartment once more, the lights in the living room guiding their way as the sun began to completely go to rest.

“Just keep me company. I’m used to doing this with four kids and a wife talking to me,” He teased with a light smile as he began grabbing cooking ware. He grabbed the largest pot he could from the shelf and filled it up with water. He placed that on the stove and flicked the heater on, igniting the burner and moving on. The spaghetti was quickly thrown into the water and left for the moment.

Yet another pot was grabbed and he poured the tomato sauce into it, a base and general packaged version. But he took some of the spices he had bought and drizzled them into the sauce, slowly stirring it in. The wine was popped open and he took a quick swig, flushing the liquid between his cheeks to get a solid taste. “Not bad,” He said as he poured a healthy amount into the sauce before he placed it to the side.

He found a cooking tray and placed it on the counter as he grabbed the packaged meat. Breadcrumbs and the raw meat were put into yet another bowl along with some more spicing before he began to knead it all together. Once it was completely combined, he began to roll them into balls and set them on the tray.

“This must be quite the sight,” He said without looking at her, chuckling softly. “Sure you don’t want to take a picture? Doubt you’ll see a Chishan cooking again.”

- -

Complicated was putting their situation nicely.

“Macho. That sounds about right,” Chishan actually laughed at the remark, less insulted and more amused by it. After all, it was an entirely true statement. He often forgot that the way he acted was rather brazen and forward, though he definitely had Agatha to thank for most of that. Boundaries were something a myth with him by now and with someone that looked so much like his friend…well, even less of a chance he would be as modest. “You’re not weird. This,” He noted by spinning his hand around in relation to the world. “…is weird but only to me. I honestly never thought I would get the chance to settle down. I always expect to die rather young, killing on some foolhardy mission that I simply couldn’t say no to,” He sighed gently as he looked to her. “But I’m honestly happy for you and for Chishan as well. You get a chance to have a family, have love…that’s something so rare that I’m almost jealous,” He admitted with a small, bashful grin.

She pointed to the building they needed to go to and he turned enough to head towards it, even as she opened the door to more information about his doppelganger. “Well I gathered that he’s some kind of engineer. But what does he do exactly?”

She could definitely understand the part where he said they stopped using their powers because it was easier to fit in than to stand out. She had tried that too, maybe she still did and to a certain point she even succeeded. Meaning she had a rather normal job and she had common human friends. But she had realized a long time ago that she would never really be one of them, from the outside she would always the alien cat-girl and from the inside she would always be a warrior at heart. Just go with the flow, do what everyone else does, like sheep in a herd.

It sounded a bit odd to her, that in some different dimension someone who was so similar to herself did make that decision to be ‘normal’ and all that, just for a husband and kids. It didn’t make much sense to her…

“All right, that I can do I think,” she answered to his remark that she could just keep him company, but not really needed to help preparing dinner. She kind of ignored the joke about the wife and children, though maybe not on purpose.

“I usually put on some music, when I… do household stuff,” she mentioned and walked over to Mimi’s retro cd player. She wanted to say ‘cook’ at first, but she didn’t exactly do that too often, so yeah.

“I’ll just put something on, unless you have a preference?” she wondered and already hit the start button. Apparently there was still an Eighties’ rock classic CD inside. She turned the volume down a little, so they had some nice background music, but could still talk.

The feline girl walked back to the kitchen and sat down on one of the barstools at the free-standing cooker. It suddenly hit her that she had never done all these things, which seemed so perfectly normal to him, with someone else before. Not with a lover or boyfriend at least. The shopping together and preparing a home cooked meal felt almost so awful cozy, that it actually made her sad. The closest she had to a relationship was with Strega and that even didn’t last all that long. If she was really honest, she would have to say that they had a short and passionate relationship, but besides sleeping or training together, there was not much else they did together. He was a warrior with a crew and a ship. She was a warrior, part of a long lost team. She never even met his crew… No, instead she could have been happily married to Chishan.

She stared back at the full blood Saiyan who was busy preparing their spaghetti with meatballs and tears started to burn behind her eyes, but she did her best to not show it to him. She really did not want to start crying in front of him, she just couldn’t. She probably couldn’t even explain him why she was crying. Because she felt lonely all of a sudden and she wanted to hug him, but she couldn’t because he was not her Chishan.

The feline girl blinked her eyes few times when he made another joke about making a photo of him cooking, “Oh,” was the only thing she said at first and briefly looked around for a moment. The phone that Mimi gave her had to be around here somewhere and probably you could take pictures with it too, she just had never used it, “That’s okay, I won't forget you,” she smiled softly. Oh, did that sound wrong?

Without looking at him she got up from the barstool again and took some plates, glasses and cutlery from the closets and placed them on the table, just to give herself something to do.

***********************

She sure was glad that they seemed to understand each others opinion better, now that they had just let it all out and she offered him warm smile. She nodded and her cheeks turned slightly red when he said that he was happy for her and his alternate self.

“Don’t be so negative! You’re still young, you can’t still be together with Le… someone and have a family,” she said, feeling slightly embarrassed that she had almost mentioned her own name. To her it seemed normal, since she was married to ‘him’ after all, but then she remembered that in his world they were more like brother and sister, “I hope that both of you will be happy.”

They entered the building and just briefly nodded at the receptionist. Of course he knew recognized Chishan so he didn’t ask to identify himself. Levana gestured to go to the elevators at the left, before she started to answer his question, “Oh, well I don’t know all the details, but you, he is a software engineer. Specialized in robotics and automations. Last thing I heard is that they are building some ‘masterpiece’, unit 5000 I think, but most of it is classified information.”

She looked at the elevator and wondered why the doors didn’t open yet, when she suddenly realized, “Eum, I think you need your badge.”

“No preference, any music is welcome,” Husband Chishan said as he looked over his shoulder and smiled at Levana. His gaze only lingered on her for a moment before he was back to work, prepping the food like the practiced chef he had become. Classic rock; now there was something he could cook to without a problem. His body moved a little bit to the rhythm, instinctive at this point after all the time spent listening to music and cooking at home.

She sat herself down on the barstool and suddenly went rather quiet. Normally Husband Chishan would have picked up on this and looked to her in question. But his mind was toiling with the steps for making the spaghetti and he was more than a little preoccupied with it. For the moment, it seemed his full attention was on cooking and he couldn’t take the moment to look back and see that she was very obviously upset. A missed chance perhaps but one he wouldn’t know about unless she brought it up.

He slid the meatballs into the preheated oven and closed the door on them quickly, setting the timer on the stove. He grabbed a wooden spoon from the side and began to stir the sauce once more, making sure everything hadn’t settled while he made the meatballs. The spaghetti strands were completely limp in the boiling water now, gaining in size from absorption. It wouldn’t be long now before the meal was ready.

He turned around as she said she wouldn’t forget him, a warm smile on his face. If it had been said with anything else other than honesty, he didn’t notice. “I won’t forget you either. Or this entire experience,” He said as he moved over to the pot of pasta and stirred that a bit. “I know it’s been kind of a hassle and more than a slight annoyance. But…I think this entire thing was important, you know? Like there was a lesson in it that we just don’t see yet,” Of course he liked to think the lesson he needed to learn was to avoid stray thoughts of wanting to go on adventures again. His heart hurt too much from being away from his family.

She got up from her seat and began to gather the utensils and plates for their dinner. The timer dinged and Husband Chishan opened the stove—making sure to grab a towel first. He pulled out the plate of meatballs and set it aside as he whistled from its heat. “Alright!” He declared proudly as he grabbed the spoon for the sauce and quickly ladled in the freshly baked meatballs.

“Dinner is served.”

Chishan laughed a bit at Wife Levana’s assertion that he could still get married. It was a laugh of appreciation, like it was nice to know someone thought positively of his situation. But being realistic of his chances on getting married and having a family…well, it was more than unlikely. He had two children that he cared for but never got to see. He wasn’t married or even in a relationship—his heart panged a little as he thought that—so his chances of this fairy tale ending were rather bleak.

But he wasn’t about to reproach her on it. “I’d like Levana to be happy too. More than anything else,” He admitted. The Saiyaness had gone through nearly as much heartbreak as he had. And with that knowledge, all he wanted was for her to be happy.

Software engineer. That didn’t sound too bad. Though being specialized in automatons and robotics was a bit of a surprise. Then again, he was currently working on a power suit so…

He nearly froze when he heard Unit Five-Thousand. A lump lodged itself in his throat over the very mention of it, the nightmares of the Steel Legion suddenly flowing back into his mind. It was terrible enough that the creation of such a being was happening right here in this world but to know that it was being helped by him…

He hid away his shock and fear quickly. Once they got inside, he’d have to try and find out more information about this timeline’s Unit Five-Thousand. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem to be as easily as all that as the elevator doors refused to open. He frowned. “Well I can probably fly us up to the right level if you tell me which floor his office is on. And as long as you don’t mind me flying us up.” He said, being a bit more aware of how just grabbing her might be uncomfortable.

“A lesson in it?” she repeated his words and thought about it for a moment, “You mean like this was meant to happen to us? Do you believe there is a reason for all this?” she asked honestly and not sarcastically this time. She didn’t believe in faith, the idea that everything was planned out already freaked her out in some way. Like you didn’t have a free will after all and no matter how much you tried you could change a damn thing.

Considering all the bad things that had happened already to her and her friends, she would almost hope that there was bigger purpose to it at all. And that one day it would all make sense, so the suffering and losts weren’t in vain.

She quickly shook of the idea again though, it was not something she wanted to think about too much at this point, she felt dreary enough already.

Right when she finished putting everything on the table, the timer indicated that dinner was ready, “Perfect timing,” she smiled softly and sat down on one of the chairs.

“It definitely smells good,” She added, before they served themselves a nice portion of spaghetti with meatballs, “Smakelijk. That means ‘enjoy your meal’ in my language.”

She was about to take the first bite, when the next song on the CD started and it was just a little different than the previous rock songs.

Close your eyes, give me your hand, darlin'

Do you feel my heart beating?

Do you understand?

Do you feel the same?

Am I only dreaming?

Is this burning an eternal flame?

Levana felt awkward for a moment couldn’t help, this was ridiculous, now it really felt like they were on a date or something, but then she started to laugh, “Well, isn’t this nice… guess we just need some candle light.”

The whole swap was so absurd, that it became funny again. Her she was, having a nice dinner with a guy who was married to her in a different timeline.

“So, you want tell me a bit more about the Team Rocket in your world? Everyone is still there eh?” she wondered, just to start a casual conversation again. He mentioned something about them before, but she had still been too stressed at that point to really have heard what he said.

*******************

“Eum,” she started of, not sure what to say. Oh god, there came the flying again… At least this time he suggested it first, instead of just picking her up and take off. She hesitated for a moment to look for the right words, so she wouldn’t offend or hurt him again. She came to realise by now that they lived in very different worlds.

“I’m not sure how common it is for people to fly in your world, but here it is honestly not done…,” she whispered softly, while she had a quick look over her shoulder to check if nobody could hear her, “I mean, it’s only on the third floor even people might see us on the street and call the police, because they might think we’re burglars or something.”

Her cheeks turned slightly red again, though this time because she was getting nervous, “Please, I can’t have you go back to your dimension and then maybe have my husband go to prison or end up with a lot of trouble.”

She took deep breath and looked around for a moment to come up with a better idea, “Oh, but the young boy at the reception must know you, eum, my husband! Just ask him to let us in, because you forgot you badge!” she whispered with a smile this time and slightly gestured him to go to the main desk, “Oh, and eum, maybe you should… close your shirt first…”

“Well, that’s what I like to think at least,” Husband Chishan was quick to answer Levana’s question as he finished up the last few steps for dinner. He paused for a quick moment as he seemed to stare ahead, collecting the thoughts in his mind. “I don’t exactly…believe in a singular god. I don’t know about your Chishan but it’s kind of hard to when you’ve been to the Next Dimension and met the Kais, the whole idea of faith gets…jumbled, at least in the organizational sense,” He turned around a bit to look at her, an odd but firm smile on his face. “And I can’t imagine what it was like to go through this timeline with all the stress and heartache you and your Chishan have endured. But look; you guys are still here and you’re still friends. That’s got to be some kind of blessing if you ask me.”

He felt fairly confident in that belief and his smile would tell her so as well. With everything set and ready, they were quick to gather their helpings on a plate and sit themselves down in the chairs. She offered a small blessing for their food and—being the man that he was—he was quick to reply with “Smakelijk,” doing his absolute best to repeat what she had said.

He nearly had his first helping of food in his mouth when the CD changed to a new song and suddenly the atmosphere was thrust into something a bit more romantic. He paused, his mouth open and the food practically behind his teeth as he looked over to the source of the music and then to Levana. Luckily she broke the tension with a laugh and he quickly joined in, putting the fork back down onto his plate. “Yeah, candles. Now that would be funny,” He said as he chuckled awkwardly. Though in spite of it all, it was still a rather nice setting. Maybe not exactly a date as they were…both a bit bashful over the prospect of that but…

Oh good she brought up another subject. “Yeah, Team Rocket is still going pretty strong,” He said after he had finished chewing on everything that was currently in his mouth. “Apio is running the outfit for the most part, though he kind of shares the lead with Pan. You know Pan; she wouldn’t just let someone else take full control. Rubic and Minosha work as sort of the shadow team; they go in and investigate certain matters and act accordingly. They’ve done a lot of good for a lot of planets,” He smiled but it was a bit sad. “We don’t get to see them much. Only every so often. They were actually coming to the house to take the kids for the weekend so my Lev and I could go on a little vacation. I had rented out this cabin up in the mountains for just the two of us.”

He chuckled once more. “So Mimi you said, right? This is her apartment? Are you her roommate?”

- -

“Really?” Chishan asked, his brow furrowing. That was surprising, considering that the Apio of this world was just as prone to fly as he was. Then again, from what he could gather, there didn’t seem to be that many super powered beings going around. Hell, even Unit Five Thousand hadn’t been built up to this point. He shook it off and listened to her as she explained that they may be marked as burglars. That made sense, especially if people weren’t flying around as often as normal.

“No, that makes sense. I don’t want to get him in trouble either,” He admitted, nodding. Last thing he wanted was to swap back and have each of them be in compromising positions. Her suggestion about the man at the reception desk was definitely a better choice. He glanced down—once more—at his shirt and laughed again as he quickly buttoned it completely up, finally hiding away his chest from the world.

He walked up to the desk and gave his most pleasant smile. “Hi there. I’m terribly sorry; I think I left my badge at home. Is there any chance you could buzz us up to the third floor? I just want to show my wife around the office.”

Or a curse… immediately shot through Levanas mind, when he concluded that it was a blessing that she and ‘her’ Chishan were still together as friends after everything they both went through. She was careful enough though to not say that out loud, it was just a weird idea that popped up anyway, definitely not something she wanted to discuss with him. The feline girl just returned his smile.

She continued to eat quietly while he answered her question and told about their mutual friends of Team Rocket. It made her happy and sad at the same time. Happy of course because somewhere out there, in another timeline the groups was still very much alive and kicking. Sad because she realised that she hadn’t seen Rubic in month, she had no idea at all where Pan was, and Mino… She preferred not to think about her last encounter with Mino or Maker as he called himself now.

“That’s good, I’m really glad to hear that,” she said honestly and tried her best to not sound to sad, “Promise me…, promise me that you stay in contact with them, even if you guys are really busy and all. Make time to get together, even if its only once every few months…” She almost added <you never know when it will be the last time you see them> but she kept that to herself as well.

‘Oh, jees, just this weekend that you planned with your wife, worst timing ever eh,” she replied when he mentioned the trip the planned to the mountains.

She was about to take another bite from the spaghetti, when he asked her question about Mimi and the apartment.

“Oh, yeah, she has no partner at the moment and me neither, so we are roommates now. I actually just moved in a couple of days ago actually,” she answered and then took another bite, before continuing, “It’s just temporary though and to do her a favour, because she didn’t stop asking me about it. I think I’ll be traveling again soon, well when I get my new spaceship fully operational, because my previous one is pretty old and there is always something broken. It isn’t worth the repairs anymore.”

She then suddenly realised she forgot to take something to drink and got up from her chair, “I assume we will finish this bottle of wine?”

She knew that neither of them were really affected by the alcohol produced on Earth, so it was ‘safe’ to have the wine. It was not like they would get drunk and do things they would regret later. Or at least she assumed that this Chishan wouldn’t get intoxicated either.

***************

The young man at the desk stared for a moment at Chishan and then looked around as if he wanted to make sure that he was talking to him, even though there was nobody else around. A second later he quite literally jumped up from his chair as if he was bitten by a snake or something.

“Yes Mister Chishan, of course,” he stumbled and was already on his way to the elevator, where he offered Levana a little bashful nod as he opened the elevators doors with his badge, “There you go Mister Chishan, Misses Chishan, have a nice… visit.”

And with that he went back to his desk, but not before his cheeks turned even more red than before.

“Eum, that was… weird,” Levana whispered to Chishan, while they stepped in the elevator and she pushed the button for the third floor. It didn’t take them long to reach to correct floor and when she stepped out again she had a look to the right and then to left.

“I think it’s this way,” she said while she took the hallway to the left, “I’ve only been here once and that’s already two years ago, I hope his name is on the door…”

Husband Chishan was a bit surprised by Levana’s urging that he promise that he would stay in contact with them. It was the first real time he noticed that there was a bit of hesitance in her voice, a catch that had a sad tone for it. This difference between their worlds—Team Rocket—maybe the one thing that bothered her the most. There was nothing he wanted to do then than to comfort her, tell her that everything would work out. She had lost a fair number of those people he had said and now…her Chishan was lost to her as well, even if it is for a short time.

He smiled softly. “I promise,” It was about all he could say in the moment. He wasn’t her Chishan; despite how much they looked and acted similar, the glaring differences were more key than anything else. She had done a lot for him and the least he could do was keep his promises he made to her; the Levana he never got a chance to marry.

“Yeah…” He said with a small laugh as he stabbed into the spaghetti, twirling the fork among the sauce and strings. “In light of all this, I’m sure we’ll try to reschedule. Shouldn’t be too hard to rebook it,” He continued before he shoveled another helping of food into his mouth. Though he was still a Saiyan, he seemed to eat with a whole lot less vigor and speed than his counterpart. Almost like he had been properly trained.

His brow furrowed a bit as he listened to her explain about Mimi and the apartment. “Traveling huh? Any place in particular or are you just looking to get off Earth?” He could understand that reasoning; there had been moments where he wanted to travel off world too. Back when he had his pangs for adventure.

“You know…granted that I’m not zapped back to my world immediately tomorrow morning, I could take a look at the ship for you. I’m one of the founders of a cybernetic and robotics company in my timeline and I’m sure I could do some decent repairs on your vessel. At least enough to get it fully operational,” He offered kindly, smiling. Still wanting to make up for all the help she had given him, he felt this would be another great step towards that.

Levana got up and grabbed the bottle of wine, looking to finish it off. He chuckled. “Might as well, don’t want it to go to waste,” After all, neither one of them had weak-willed livers that would render them drunk and incapable of reasoning well. Beauty of alien bodies.

- -

The man behind the desk was quick to jump up and give them access to the elevator, addressing them as Mr. and Mrs. Chishan. As the elevator doors closed, Chishan couldn’t help but laugh. “Yeah, that was weird,” He admitted. They were simply going up to his office to look for some information. What could that boy possibly think they were going to do? Without paying it much thought he spoke once more. “You know, I never realized how helpful it would be to have a last name until just now,” He said with a slight smile. “I mean ‘Mister Chishan’ just sounds so…awkward,” He laughed a bit again as they rode the lift up to the third floor.

She took the lead, pointing them down the left hallway and moving through it. Chishan followed behind, making sure to look around in case other people were still around the office. Luckily it seemed like it was completely devoid of people for the weekend. Their luck continued as the rather large door at the end of the hallway had his name on it. ‘Chishan, CFO’. Well, looks like he was a bigger deal than he expected he was.

He pushed the door open and led them inside, to the same familiar office he had been in hours ago. He flipped the light switch and illuminated the room. Everything still seemed to be in place.

“Alright,” He said softly as he took a few steps into the center of the room. He stared at the ceiling, right about where the light had dropped him off that oh so long time ago. “There should be left over particles in the air from whatever hit me and your husband. I just need to sense it out. This…might take a bit of time,” He admitted as he kept his focus on the ceiling, his awareness beginning to spread around the room.

“Hmm,” she nodded when he asked more about her travel plans, “I don’t really have concrete plans, there are just some planets I haven’t been to yet; Avalon, Damaskia, Toffit,… I thought I wanted a normal life, but now…”she answered, but then cut her sentence short. She wasn’t sure anymore what she wanted. What she did figure by now was that the figuratively grass always seems greener on the other side.

“Anyway I will never be ‘normal’ here on Earth, I’m always gonna be an alien. So, maybe another planet is a better choice. I don’t know,” she shrugged.

She was just thinking out loud at that point, it was not something she had really figured out already. Lately she just started to feel the urge again to leave. Probably she would just take off and see where the journey would take her. Though technically she did make a promise to find out what happened to Logan, but maybe she just wasn’t ready for that yet. Going back to the space pirates that saved her life more than a year ago, also briefly had crossed her mind. Just be wild and free.

She gave him a slightly sarcastic grin, as if he had offended her a bit by claiming that he could still fix her old ship, while she had just told him it was crap, “Believe me, it’s old as hell, and besides it’s almost impossible to find decent spare parts on these little blue globe.”

She looked in the closet for two more appropriate glasses, before she took the bottle of wine as well and brought everything back to the table. She filled both glasses and then sat back down on her chair. When she picked up her glass, she first just looked at the yellowish fluid and the way the light was reflected on the surface.

“You said there must be a meaning behind all this. So, you think you will do something different after this experience, or you will just you back to your normal everyday life?” she asked him, but in the meantime it was also something she wondered about for herself, before she took a sip of her wine, “Hmm, not bad.”

********************

Levana had been correct about the hallway and they easily found her husband's office at the far end. Chishan opened the door and stepped inside, while she followed right behind him. She looked around for a moment at the desk and closets. Yes, this was his office, though that was confirmed already with the nametag on the door of course. Everything was still pretty much as she remembered it, the computer looked rather new though and maybe the chairs had changed too. There were no real personal things though that indicated that this was Chishans workplace, it could have been anyone really and she suddenly realised again how much she missed him, though he was only gone for a couple of hours.

The idea that maybe he would not be able to come back was just… too awful to describe, she had no words for it. How would she have to tell the kids?

She turned to the Saiyan and followed his gaze at the ceiling, but she didn’t see anything of course. “Okay,” she just answered briefly when he explained her about certain particles he was looking for.

So she just stood there silently and waited, while he… did whatever he was doing. For several minutes she stared at his face, the lines of his eyebrows, his nose and cheekbones, it was really amazing how identical he was to her husband… Until she also looked back up at the ceiling and waited until he would say something, and hopefully it would be something positive.

“You know, I have always wanted to go to Toffit,” Husband Chishan said as he set his fork down, having finally finished all of his meal. “It’s been quite some time since I could really use my title as Grand Kai’s student to get me into anywhere. It doesn’t mean much on Earth,” He admitted with a small laugh, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms over his chest. “But Toffit…an entire planet ruled over by celestials. I’ve heard the Consecrated Fortress is beautiful. I would have loved the chance to visit there. Maybe someday in the future when I retire.”

It was fun to think about but only in terms of the far future. His mind was completely set on getting back home and being with his family in the immediate future. He looked at her with an odd mix of compassion and understanding. “It is a bit strange to be here all the time. Knowing that we’re aliens and we’re completely different. I feel like my Levana struggles with that too; trying to fit in with everyone. But I’ve always felt it was better to just be yourself and not try to fit in. If I had just tried to be one with the collective, I never would have had the guts to open my own business. I found the minute I stopped looking at myself as a Saiyan and instead focused on me just being Chishan, I had an easier time adapting. There will always be those that are untrusting but…all you can do is what is right for you. You don’t want to get chained down by anything or anyone, you know? You just want to be free to be your real self.”

He looked so serious as he spoke. But then he suddenly broke out into a small laugh. “Sorry about that. I tend to just go off like that,” He apologized as he leaned forward once more and turned his attention to the conversation about her ship. “Ah, I’m sure I can scrounge some things up if I look around. Sometimes it’s not so much about finding matches as its finding something you can turn into a match. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had to make do with seemingly useless pieces of scrap.”

He took the offered wine glass and sipped it gingerly, surprised by the rather strong taste. He was more used to drinking wine nowadays than he was of anything else, though that came rarely as well. Ah that poor bottle sitting on ice on the mountain lodge was going to go to waste. Oh well, worries for later. His gaze shifted back to her as she asked him about his meaning from before. “Well, I know I won’t take my family for granted at all. I love Levana and I love my kids, don’t get me wrong. But I kept getting this itch for an adventure, for something grander than the life I was leading. Now that I’ve got it…all I really want is to be back with them. I’m definitely going to give them all more attention than before,” He said softly as he swirled the glass around, causing the liquid to spin inside of it. “You don’t really know what you want until it’s seemingly gone, you know?”

- -

What Chishan wouldn’t give to have his scouter right now.

Distortion particles were something he had ever tried to sense out before. They didn’t carry a power level or any particular signature that he had felt or seen in the past. It was like searching for a needle in a veritable ocean of hay with one’s eyes shut. He stood there for a few moments staring at the ceiling, doing his best to try and identify anything strange and alien in the immediate area. But his senses were tuned with finding people, not inanimate objects. He could pick up Wife Levana’s energy as easily as he could look at her. But these hypothesized particles?

Not so easy.

He scoffed through his teeth and turned his attention away from the ceiling, clearly annoyed. “The one day I don’t bring any of my stuff with me,” He said in complaint, more angry with himself than anything else. He glanced over to the desk and the computer, his eyes narrowing slightly.

Quickly he moved over to it and slipped into the chair, much like he had earlier in the afternoon. “You said he works with robotics right? Then they may have some kind of sensor equipment on hand for demos for clients,” He quickly brought up the main menu but it was locked with a password. He mused for a moment before he quickly typed in ‘Levana’. Incorrect password.

Apio?

Incorrect password.

His fingers tapped against the keyboard softly so as not to push down any of the keys, his mind scouring through the possible passwords. It could be one of millions of things of course. He had so much from his past and then there was his extended family and-…

He paused. He quickly typed in ‘Chishan Jr’

Password accepted.

Good to know Husband Chishan was a sentimental fellow.

WC: 864/22,774

“Oh really?” she asked somewhat curious, his comment about wanting to go to Toffit kind of surprised her. To be honest, by now he just looked so much like the cliché husband-dad you tended to see in comedies and soap series on Earth, with a normal job, four kids and a trip to a cabin in the mountains in the weekend. She didn’t really expect that he had still a bit sense for adventure in him. But maybe there was still somewhat left of the Saiyan he used to be.

“If you really want to do that, you should do it,” she suggested, “I’m not saying you got to wander around the galaxy again, I get that you got other priorities and responsibilities, but maybe it can be a nice vacation when the kids are a bit older?”

She listed to the rest of his short monologue and had to smile about the fieriness that suddenly got into him, as he offered her some advice. She wasn’t sure she fully agreed with him or if she even really understood what he meant. On one hand he told her to stay herself and not try to fit in, but on the other he seemed to kind of deny his Saiyan heritage to adapt to a life on Earth anyway.

Levana briefly opened her mouth to say something, but the closed it again without a sound, when he spoke his last sentence. She heard him, she heard him loud and clear as his word kept echoing in her head and she didn’t really hear anymore what he said next.

You don’t want to get chained down by anything or anyone, you know? You just want to be free to be your real self.”

Wasn’t this most ironic. It came pretty close to what that demon woman had said in her dream only days ago. She even claimed that Chishan kept her chained as a pet. And now by some weird event, Chishan was swapped with his alternate self from another timeline and this alternate Chishan was now telling her something similar as the demoness? This couldn’t be a coincidence right?

This had to be another dream…. That actually made sense, the whole day had been so absurd, that it actually made sense that it was just a dream. Why didn’t she think of that any sooner? But if this was another dream, then Lilim was pulling another trick on her.

The feline girl knocked over her wine glass as she suddenly shot up from her chair. The glass fell on the floor and scattered around in dozens of pieces, but she didn’t even notice.

In a split second she moved over to Chishans side and grabbed his throat to lift him up from his seat, “You damn bitch, I know it’s you! Stop playing games!”

**************

She lowered her eyes back from the ceiling to Chishan and frowned a bit, when he said something about not having his stuff with him that day, “What stuff? What do you mean?”

She frowned even more when he took place on her husband's’ chair and started to type something. From where she was standing she had no clue what he was doing of course, but before she could ask another question he already started to explain a bit of what came to his mind.

“Yes, indeed,” she confirmed again that her husband works with robotics, “What exactly are you looking for? I think most of their equipment is locked up safe in the basement, but I guess you will also need his badge to enter there.”

WC 601 / 21,432

She raised a good point. He could always go to Toffit later; it would be quite the expensive trip to plan for but maybe the kids would really enjoy it. The demon activity had been going down exponentially each year as the celestials looked to settle more on the world. It was actually a really nice suggestion of Levana’s and he smiled at it. “I might just do that. May take a couple of years but I think it would be a nice thing to plan for. And if it happens, I’ll have you to thank,” He brought his glass up and leaned it towards her in thanks.

Husband Chishan didn’t see the slight change in Levana as he kept talking. He was getting fairly comfortable with the woman now. Not as comfortable as to treat her like his wife but enough so that he could actually relax. The edginess from being trapped in a different timeline had seemed to dampen in light of the friendliness she was showing him. He took another sip of his wine and leaned back in the chair a bit.

But everything broke down a moment later. She quickly got up, knocking her glass to the ground and splintering it into a thousand pieces. He went to ask what was wrong when her hand found his throat, fingers digging into skin and choking him. He didn’t even register that she had easily picked him up out of the chair and was holding him up. He dropped his own glass of wine to the ground as his hands went to her wrist, trying to pull it off of him.

“Levana…what…are you doing?” He said in between gasps for air. The pressure she was putting on him was cutting out his oxygen flow but he could still make out what she was saying. She called him a bitch, told him to stop playing games. What was this?

Oh Gods she was really hurting him. He’d come this far only for her to suddenly turn on him now without explanation. She was accusing him of something but what was it?! He felt so useless in that moment, so utterly helpless…

Just like he had been all day. Ever since he came here he’d been a burden; some weak-minded and strength-lacking man who was more lost than courageous. He’d relied on her to get him through everything and all he had done and been was weak. His thoughts flew to his wife and his children, their smiling faces looking up at him with all the hope in the universe. He’d been so strong once, capable of protecting them against anything or anyone. And now he couldn’t even protect himself here. He was going to die and he was never going to see their faces again…

No!

It awoke with such force that he almost didn’t even realize it, an almost feral snarl coming across his face as his hands tensed up around her wrist. All at once the timid and practical husband had become clouded in a long-sleeping energy. Gold became his world, as his hair follicles absorbed the light and took on the blond hue. The calm and gentle eyes of the husband melted away into piercing emeralds as he stared at her, suddenly more ferocious than he had been since he had come here. His fingers dug into her skin and did their best to pull them back from his neck. But his voice, when he spoke, was not as harsh as the display his body had suddenly taken part in.

“Let me go, Levana. I am not your enemy,” He said firmly albeit calmly. Despite his sudden transformation, he didn’t want to harm her…he wanted to know what had set her off.

- -

Chishan glanced up at Levana from the top of the computer screen. “My scouter. Generally I bring it with me everywhere but I figured I wouldn’t have any need of it while visiting Lev. I don’t exactly like to go around armed like a warrior all the time,” He said as he opened up the file menu and began to rummage through. “I guess I’ll need to figure out something else for when I’m going around in casual wear,” His mind shot back to one of his old projects. He should really look back to that when he got back.

When, not if.

“That’s what I would do; lock all the important stuff in a safe. But if your husband is anything like me, and I like to think he is a bit, he will store the password in multiple files with hints to what it would be. Any codes I need protected, I use the first two symbols of a filename in the first, third and fifth files I have loaded onto my computer. I have an eidetic memory when it comes to things like that but I also like to leave backups just in case I’m ever…well, if I’m ever lost,” He casually glanced up at her and gave a small shrug. Harshness of reality.

He brought up the files and memorized the supposed code before he shut down the screen. “Alright, now we’ll just have to head down to the basement and…”

He stopped suddenly as something felt…amiss. His eyes narrowed as he looked towards the ceiling in curiosity, the Saiyan suddenly on edge.

“Do you feel that?”

WC: 899/23,673

“Quit playing games, show me your true form” she repeated, while her voice turned into more of a whispering hiss, “I told you I’m not a kitten, so give me one good reason why I should just kill you now,”

You don’t want to get chained down by anything or anyone, you know? You just want to be free to be your real self.”

Levana stayed in the same position with her hand firmly around his neck, while his previous words kept going though her mind.

How the hell did that demoness managed to continue this game for so long, why didn’t she notice it before. But what was her goal with this whole charade? Probably just to mess with her mind. Damn, how stupid had she been! Her being married with Chishan in some other dimension and having four children even, it was just too ridicules. How could she have believed that really?

“I have to admit you played it well, Lilim,” she continued to hiss, with a more the deathly look in her eyes, when she suddenly felt much more insecure. Like for how long had this been going on exactly? Had she just fell asleep on Mimi’s couch that afternoon? Or… was she still in her ship and didn’t she even move in with Mimi yet at all? Or was she actually awake and had Lilim just taken on Chishan features? The whole idea was pretty confusing…

She felt like the whole room started to spin around and unintentionally she loosened her grip on his neck a bit, probably enough for him to get free. Her eyes shot across the room like a wild animal that was trying to escape his predator. If he had still said anything to her in the meantime she didn’t hear it.

Her eyes locked on the pieces of glass that were scattered all over the floor. What happened here? When did those glasses break?

Her head quickly snapped up again to look at Chishan when she felt the change in his energy. His power level shot up dramatically, while his hair turned blonde. He was transforming. For a long moment she stared at him as if he was a stranger and she had no idea what they were doing there.

But it was Chishan and deep inside she knew it. Maybe not her, but still Chishan in some way. She knew his ki signature so very well, the way it powered up and softly pulsated. That was not something Lilim would be able to mimic. Oh god, what was happening, what had she done?

Now she really pulled back her hand, if he hadn’t pulled away himself by now.

“Aren’t you?” she asked him, when he said that he was not her enemy. It was not sarcastic; it was a confused but very honest question. She genuinely did know.

“You kept me leashed, like a pet, caged, away from… like a little kitten, never a tiger… Why Chishan?” she babbled on, though her words didn’t make much sense. And her hand went up to her own neck this time, but the collar was not there

*******************

Levana sat down on one of the visitors’ chairs at her husband’s desk, while Chishan continued to explain what he was looking for. When he mentioned his scouter, she wondered where her husband had left his. She really had to think about it, since he hadn’t used it in such a long time.

“I’m not sure Chishan still had his old scouter,” she had to admit and for some reason she felt slightly embraced about it, after all it was part of his Saiyan heritage. She cleared her throat before she continued, “In our first house, we kept all his old gear in a box on the attic for a while, but when I got pregnant with the triplets we needed a bigger house. So I think that during the clean up and moving he gave those things back to Apio, in case he could still use it for something.”

She looked back up at the ceiling above her, but of course she could still not see or sense anything, “We could ask your brother for a scouter probably, it will probably sound very weird to him, so we might need to explain everything that happened… Yeah, maybe it isn’t such a bad idea to get the whole Team on this?” she suggested.

She started to laugh softly when he explained her about his idea about keeping passwords, it was again a mixture of happy memories and sadness that spread across her face, “Oh, that definitely sounds like my husband,” she had to admit. His weird coding system used to drive her crazy, now she just ignored it. All that mattered was that it worked for him.

Shortly after it seemed that he had found something useful as he mentioned they should go down to the basement, he didn’t give any further explanation at that point though.

Levana got up from her chair and turned to the door already, when he suddenly asked her if she felt something too. She looked back at the full blood Saiyan and then stood still for a long moment, while she looked around and tried to sense the area, though she hadn’t really done that in a long time.

“No,” she had to admit that to her nothing had changed, “What do you feel?”

wc 906 / 22,338

True form? Kitten?

Just what had caused Levana to change like this? It was like a coin had been flipped and it suddenly landed on the bad side. The Saiyaness was rampant in that moment; like a beast that had suddenly exploded out from its cage and was taking its frustrations out on everyone nearby. Husband Chishan was the closest victim and he was going to get the brunt of her blitz.

Lilim. She said a name, accusing him of being someone else. Of course the husband had known that relatively quick, given how she had snapped at him and demanded he show his true form. The name she did say was one he had never heard of before. It was completely alien, nearly as much as what was happening to him right then and there.

And then Levana changed again. She went from her anger and hatred focused on him to in a slight panic. Her hand loosened on his neck enough that when he ascended, he was able to pry himself away from her and take a step back, finally managing to get a healthy gasp of air. Her eyes darted around to the room, looking at every corner and shadow like it was an enemy ready to leap out and attack her.

He reached up and touched his neck, feeling the red marks that made his skin tender. She was strong; there was absolutely no doubt about that anymore. But the way she looked at him now, like he was some unknown villain that had broken into her house, it cut him deeper than anything had before. The spitting image of his wife staring at him with almost…hatred.

She retracted more and her wild nature continued as she spat questions at him, her confusion more than evident now. She babbled onwards, accusing him of locking her up, of caging her. Husband Chishan looked on with a steady gaze, his energy still pulsating off of him. Yet it wasn’t as ferocious as it had been when it came out; it was calm and relaxed as he listened to her wild accusations. She was panicked for some reason and this Lilim person had clearly made her that way.

“No, I am not your enemy,” He repeated, keeping his feet rooted to their spots. He fought the urge to hold her, to take her in his arms and comfort her. She was too wild at the moment; who knows what she would do if he did that.

“And neither is your Chishan. Look at all you’ve done for me today, Levana. Look at how much work you’ve put in trying to help me and trying to get your Chishan back. That isn’t the actions of someone who considers him an enemy. I don’t know what you mean by ‘Lilim’ or ‘caging away’ but I know myself. Chishan would never do that and you wouldn’t put so much effort into trying to get him back if you truly believed that. Try and get a hold of yourself, please,” His words were soft and kind, trying to break through the manic state that had overwhelmed her.

“Please, Levana. Trust me again.”

- -

“Ah, it would be too easy if he had one, right?” Chishan joked with a small, wry smile as he glanced up from the computer again at the wife. “I can’t say I blame him. When you get a family, you’re pretty much ready to give up everything from before them. You’re ready to move onto the next step with a happy heart. The things from the past—things like scouters—don’t mean much in comparison to the life you are building,” Seeing Matilda had brought back a lot of odd feelings and memories. He had been ready to give up his life when she told him he was pregnant; ready to leave the Saiyan Empire and go and settle down with her. Essentially what this timeline’s Chishan had actually done. It was interesting to see how that may have gone.

“Well I tried to explain it to Apio when he came by earlier. He seemed to think it was my other version having another…what would you call it, middle-aged breakdown? Either way, he didn’t seem very receptive. We could try calling them back and see if they’re more willing to listen now that you believe me,” He didn’t know how comfortable he was getting too involved with all of Team Rocket here. The memories and heartache may be too much to hold onto.

All thought of that, of course, went out the window the minute he felt the slight change in the air. Something felt…different and yet familiar. It almost felt like his own energy cast off into the shadows of the world, hidden away behind multiple doors. But he could feel it and it seemed to be resonating from the room they were in.

The doorway. It was here after all. And now he had a point of concentration.

“Hold on,” He said softly as he stepped back into the middle of the room, moving under the area that he felt the energy. It hummed lightly in his ears, though it left the rest of the room quiet. His own energy began to rise slowly, trying to match the level and power that he felt there. Maybe if matched the ki frequency, he could generate a reaction…

WC: 900/24,573

Her eyes locked with his for a moment when he said that he was not her enemy. Of course he would say that. That’s what they all say.

Then she looked down at the floor, while he continued to reason with her, or tried to at least. She didn’t react at first. She heard him talk, but his words didn’t immediately came though. And when they finally did, she looked back up, still thinking about what he had just said. There was some logic in what he said. No no, he was just trying to mislead her. She was misleading her.

If Levana would be honest to herself, she knew that she only sensed Chishans energy and not Lilims. She couldn’t be there. She was not there. Levana took a deep breath and seemed to calm down a little again. Yes, Lilim was not there, it was another nightmare, it was just a very very weird reality.

And even though the demoness was not really there anymore, her words still flashed through Levana’s head.

“Yes I tried, I really tried,” she started off in agreement with his comment about all the effort that she had done that day to get her friend back. Her tone was rather calm, considering her previous anger and panic, “But you can’t know for sure that he wouldn’t do that... you don’t know him. Our lives are totally different, I am not your wife and you are not my husband…” she said while her voice faded out slowly, “He is not my husband...I’m just his… little sister…”

She looked back at the floor and noticed the broken glasses again, so she silently started to gather the pieces and left them on the sink. She would take care of that tomorrow.

“I’m sorry, this isn’t your fault, you are not him and I… shouldn’t have attacked you like that,” she added sincere, while she started to gather the dishes and cutlery to put everything in the dishwasher. It seemed that she snapped back out of it as fast as it had triggered her, barely some minutes ago.

“I’m going to take a shower too, if you don’t mind,” she continued in a neutral tone, “You can watch some tv or you can use my laptop if you like. I’ll be back in a bit.”

And with that she turned around and walked to the bathroom.

*****************************

She shrugged softly and smiled as a kind of apology, when he joked that it would have too easy if her husband's scouter was still somewhere around.

“Hmm, I can imagine, we had a… rough month that time,” she answered as she understood why Apio hadn’t really listened to Chishan, “I guess he your, eum his brother just doesn’t want to get involved in our marriage crisis again,… well not ours of course, you know what I mean… anyway, can’t really blame him,” she sighed softly. Damn, bad phrasing again.

“Anyway, I’m pretty sure that they will listen if I confirm your story now. Or you just fly over there or teleport or whatever, that alone should be more than enough to blow him away and convince him that you are not my husband.”

She waited for a moment when he stepped back to the middle of the room, to the same place where he stood originally after they just had entered the office, the same place where he had been, or her husband at least at the time of the switch.

He didn’t answer her question about what it was that he felt, he just told her to ‘hold on’. So, she did just that. She waited silently, while her eyes looked up at the ceiling again for several moments, before going down briefly to look at his face and then look back up at the ceiling. She still had no idea, what he felt or saw there, she just hoped that it would help her get her husband back.

WC 661/ 22,999

“And you’re still trying now!” Husband Chishan said with a bit more force, watching her as she seemed to clear some of the fog away but not all of it. There was a hesitance to trust his words and a wariness to him still as she looked at the floor, her mind still running at a million miles a minute. “You would not fight this hard to get him back just to get your revenge against him, Levana. You’re trying to get him back, you did everything today to get him back,” He took a small step forward, careful not to invade her personal space like he had done so much today. “Being someone’s sister makes them family, Lev. They are loved and cared for and cherished. You’re right…I don’t know for sure what he would do. But I refuse to believe he would be that cruel to you,”

It was a rather adamant statement, despite having no knowledge of the man that was him in this world. But based on everything Levana had said all day, he didn’t seem like he was this malicious. Something was wrong with Levana; something had gotten to her and was bothering her to the point of causing her mental anguish. She apologized quickly and grabbed all of the silverware, putting them in the washer. One minute she was one way, the next she was like this again. He reached out for her but she left just as quickly as her moods had changed, declaring she needed a shower like he had earlier.

“Damnit…” He grumbled softly, shaking his head softly. No; he simply couldn’t let this stay like this. She needed help and she was avoiding confronting what had caused this lashing out. His energy began to settle as he took a step to follow after her.

But something happened right then.

- -

Chishan had finally latched onto his counterpart’s energy, like an invisible hand reaching across the table to hold onto another. As he focused all his attention on it, he felt the air in the room begin to shift. Both Chishans were connected now and it seemed whatever mystical force had come their way was reacting again. The gravity surrounding the Lightning Lord seemed to increase in a split second, causing the ground underneath him to wane a bit as he kept his attention skywards. This wasn’t exactly what he had hypothesized but it was coming with some reaction.

He lowered his head to look at Wife Levana. “I’ve got him,” He said confidently as the unnatural energy in the room began to spike. He could feel it pulling on his body, calling him back to his rightful realm. He smiled softly. “Thank you, Lev. I know this has been one hectic day but you’ve…helped me with a lot of things. I’m sorry that I made everything such a hassle,” He could feel his form beginning to shift, finally beginning to return to his proper plane. “I told you I’d get your husband back,” He gave one last knowing smirk before he was gone in a cone of light, swallowed up by its magnificence.

It settled a moment later and there stood Husband Chishan, still bewildered and Super Saiyan. His eyes lifted away from the floor and he caught sight of his wife, standing there before him. “Lev…”

- -

When Chishan returned to Levana’s apartment, he was alone.

He appeared out of the light, standing where Husband Chish had been only a moment ago. His eyes seemed to clear of their glaze and he blinked as he looked around. “I’m back,” He said softly as his head turned to each side to take in as he took in the sight of the apartment. It was a bit darker than before but that was no surprise; time had seemingly passed in a similar way between the timelines.

But where was Lev?

His senses expanded outwards and he caught hold of her only a few feet away, in the bathroom. He was just about to teleport himself inside when the ringing in his ears settled and he heard the water running. She was in the shower…why was she in the shower? His brow furrowed as he tried to think about what could have happened to cause that. He glanced down at the floor and saw the broken glass still sprayed across the ground.

“Levana?” He called out, already heading down to the restroom and knocking on the wooden door. “Are you okay?”

WC: 751/25,324

Loved. Cared for. Cherished. Like a little sister, a child, a pet. Ugh, it sounded so pathetic it almost made her stomach turn around again.

“Hmm, yeah,” she just hummed softly as a response when he said he couldn’t imagine other Chishan being cruel to her. Of course he couldn’t, nobody could probably. That was likely part of the problem, the Lightning Lord was so great, who didn’t like him really? It didn’t change the way she felt or the truth that Lilim made her see finally. A collar with diamantes and rubies was still a collar. A golden cage was still a cage. Forever trapped, never free. Killing her softly.

She could be so much more than what she was now. A warrior, part feline, part Saiyan. Destined for greatness, wasn’t that what Lilim said? She liked that idea actually. But this Chishan seemed pretty convinced about his statements and it did look like he was happily married with her counterpart. They even had four kids already and wanting more children even. Could she be wrong about him? Or did this other Levana felt trapped too, though in a different setting.

She left him behind in the kitchen and quickly closed and locked the bathroom door behind her. She immediately walked to the shower and opened the tap so the water started to run down and it would actually sound like she was taking a shower already. The feline girl sighed softly and sat down on the border of the bathtub, her elbows resting on her upper legs. Damn it, what did you do when you had to opposites to choose from and both options sounded perfectly logical and completely twisted at the same time? Maybe it had been clear to others that the demoness was playing her, trying to use her as a pawn in some lethal chess game against the Saiyan overlord. Levana couldn’t help that felt some truth in her words too and now that the doubt was seeded, all Lilim had to do was watch it grow and bloom. But what would Levana do? She even wasn’t sure yet if she was awake or not, everything had just been so confusing.

The Saiyaness opened her left hand, revealing the piece of glass she had taken with her, without Chishan noticing. She turned it around between her fingers a couple of times, as if it was something much more fascinating. Could you hurt yourself in a dream? Would she wake up if she tried?

The feline girl stood back up and walked over to the sink. She was slightly shocked to see her own wet cheeks in the mirror, when did she start crying? She then looked back at the piece of glass in her hand. She remembered there was this song or quote, that said ‘sometimes you have to bleed to know you’re alive.’

Quote:

”Levana? Are you okay?”

She snapped back out of her wandering thoughts and automatically her head turned to the closed door, when Chishan called for her.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” she answered in a normal tone again, not realising that the two Chishans were switched again in the meantime and that it was her Chishan standing again on the other side, “Just… pick a movie or something… I will be there soon?”

WC 546 / 23,545

How much had changed in just a few hours, Chishan could have never known. And yet—at the same time—so much had changed for him as well.

Levana was one of his oldest friends, arguably the one that he’s spent the most time with and gotten to know the best. Semantics would argue that the Lightning Lord knew Rubic before Lev and even knew Mino before her as well but none of them had as much of an impact on the still growing Saiyan as the Saiyaness. It had been her that the Sons of Faera had used to make a demonic copy of, to try and lure him away from the safety of his group and into the cult’s clutches. It had been her that had at one point on his ship every day; spending time with him and Apio in training, missions and even relaxing. They had bonded to such a point that he had a hard time imagining what his life would be without her.

But she had fallen in love with another man—not an issue, as Chishan never really looked at Levana as someone he could be romantically entangled with. Granted that may have been because he was so infatuated with Matilda at the time but once again, semantics. She wanted to be with Strega and Chishan didn’t have the heart in him to ask her to stay. He wanted what was best for his friend and wanted her to carve her own path. He wasn’t her controller after all.

Then Matilda was taken and Chishan got swallowed up in the war. And Levana had disappeared as well, leaving him with holes in his life that only carnage and combat were able to temporarily fill. Cress took the place of Matilda at least in a physical sense but Chishan was never really able to find someone that could replace Lev. When she eventually returned, the Saiyan didn’t know how to handle it. Was it fear of losing her again? Even he couldn’t tell.

But he’d grown past trying to hide and run from her. He’d acted the child; afraid to confront her and—in part—his own worries over everything that happened. They had buried the hatched, at least to a point, and he was ready to move forward and recreate some of the lost strings of bond that had been there. Of course the whole being sent to another timeline thing had put a damper on how he wanted the day to go but…

In a way, it had helped. It gave him a new insight on Levana that perhaps he had forgotten. Despite being the caring mother and dutiful wife, the other Levana was strong in will. She had done so much for her version of Chishan and remained so strong in spite of the sudden change. And it reminded Chishan of just how strong his Levana must be if she was able to work and interact and smile after everything she had gone through.

And now he was home.

He put his hands on the door as she told him to pick a move. “Lev, it’s me,” He said softly against the wooden barrier, loud enough for her to hear. “It’s not the other Chishan.”

“I’m back.”

WC: 546/25,870

She turned away from the door again and put the piece of glass in the sink, while she pulled her shirt over her head and dropped it on the bathroom floor. She could actually use a nice hot shower; normally she might have preferred a long hot bath even. It helped her to relax and just forget about the world for a moment, but it seemed not so polite to leave her ‘guest’ alone for too long. Especially since her previous episode… she could better hurry back to reassure him that she was really fine. She was just tired after a stressful day, that was all.

She wondered if she would try to call Dr. Briefs already, to ask if he knew something more. Though if he had discovered something important he would have let her know already and it was only a few hours ago, so she just would have to wait until tomorrow and hope for the best. She softly sighed as she got the feeling that this might become a long and sleepless night.

She heard Chishan replying again on the other side of the door, but because of the water that was still running from the shower, she didn’t completely understand him at first.

Did he just say ‘I’m back’? Where did he go… ? WAIT! Did that mean…

Levana completely forgot about the water and she even forgot that she wasn’t wearing a shirt anymore, when she rushed to the door. She quickly unlocked it and swung it open.

“Chishan…?” she asked softly, while she stared at her old friend for a moment. Of course it was a stupid question, since both of them had the same name, but still. She quickly realised that it was her Chishan again. Yeah, the clothes, his more muscular body structure, his energy, there was absolutely no doubt about it.

“CHISHAN!” she screamed out and without thinking about it she basically jumped up and wrapped her arms around his neck, “Damn, what happened? Are you okay? How did you get back?”

She pulled a bit away from him again to be able to look at him and her smile faded just a little when she realised something. Levana looked down the hallway, towards the kitchen and the looked back up at her friend, “Is he gone?” she asked about his alternate self, she was pretty sure that he was gone indeed though, since she couldn’t sense him anymore. For some reason she felt slightly sad, that she didn’t had the chance to say goodbye to him.

WC 426 / 23,971

Chishan waited for her to open the door. He wasn’t about to burst in through like he had done so many other times to people. Hell, the water was running so he expected he would be waiting for quite some time before she was at least decent. But the door swung open and there stood his Levana, looking about as flustered as he was. The fact that she didn’t have a shirt on didn’t seem to bother him in the slightest as he offered a rather weary and relieved smile.

“Hey,” It was all he could manage as she questioned him softly. And before he could say anything else, she was leaping up and wrapping her arms around his neck. Instinctively his own arms went around her back and held her close, letting out a breath of relief to finally see his friend again. Wife Levana may have looked like his Lev but there was simply no comparison.

“I’m fine. Are you okay? I found broken glass on the floor out there and didn’t know what happened,” He said softly, pulling back from her a bit but keeping his arms around her. “I went back to where I had first appeared and then I felt the other world’s Chishan somehow. I locked onto his energy and set my own ki to match it. Apparently that was enough to bring us back to our rightful place,” He explained as quickly as he could but there was so much more to talk about. Hell, it had been hours since they had seen one another and it felt like so much more.

He looked down towards the kitchen and nodded. “I think so. I didn’t feel him or anything when I arrived and I can only assume I’m back because he’s there,” In a way, he was actually kind of sad he didn’t get to meet his counterpart. It would definitely have been a unique experience. He turned his gaze back to her and silently, he stepped back in to hug her once more.

WC: 341 / 26,211

A shiver ran down her spine, when his arms wrapped closely around her and his skin touched her naked back. Maybe it was because of the excitement of him being back and the letting go of the stress, or maybe there was a bit more to it. She didn’t know for sure, but that was when she realised that she wasn’t wearing a shirt anymore. Not that it really bothered her, he had probably seen her with fewer clothes during the time they lived and trained together.

“Yeah, I’m fine, I just accidently dropped the glasses,” Levana answered to his question, she just didn’t feel to go into detail about all that now that her friend had just returned. It wasn’t that big deal anyway, she could tell him about her nightmares later. Maybe.

“Guess I was just tired and distracted after everything that happened today,” she continued to explain, which then was partially true.

The feline girl looked up at him, while listening to his explanation about how he came back. She softly shook her head and then started to laugh, “Damn, you make that sound so… easy. Unfortunately your counterpart wasn’t all that familiar anymore with using ki, so I took him too Dr. Briefs to try to find something.”

She briefly nodded when the Saiyan confirmed what she already knew though, that the other Chishan was gone again, “I hope he arrived there safely,” she remarked, though she assumed it should be fine, since her old friend was back too.

On one hand she probably want to pull back and put her shirt back on, on the other she could have stayed there for ever and never ever let him go again. And it seemed he felt the same way, as he pulled her closer again. She laid her head against his shoulder and just enjoyed the embrace for a silent moment, not thinking about anything at all.

“What was she like?” she asked and it was rather obvious that she asked about her own alternate self. Probably these were things they should never have known, but the switch happened anyway and they did meet each others counterparts, so she might as well ask about it. Besides, didn’t other Chishan say that there had to be a reason for it? That maybe there was lesson in it too. She wondered he was right and if so, what that that lesson would be

Well it was a relief to hear it was only an accident that had shattered the glass on the ground. Though he saw there was a momentary flash of…something in her eyes as she told him that. He couldn’t quite gauge it and before he could fully focus on it, she was explaining it away from exhaustion and distractions. “Tell me about it. This day really threw us for a loop,” He admitted with a slightly amused smirk. Definitely not the way he had seen his time with Levana going.

She laughed at his explanation to how he got back and he joined her. “No, it was definitely anything but easy. When I first got back to the office—that’s where it dropped me originally—I couldn’t feel a damn thing. I must have looked ridiculous; standing there staring at the ceiling with my eyes all squinted. The wife version of you was there and she must have been shaking her head at how insane I must have looked,” Looking back on it now, he couldn’t help but smile just a bit. “Yeah, that Levana told me that people don’t really use their ki anymore. She couldn’t even fly; sounds like you had a similar experience,”

Leave it to the Saiyaness to think on her feet and go to Doctor Briefs. He should have thought of that as well when he was over there; but being Chishan, he obviously wanted to solve the problem himself…with help from Wife Levana of course. She spoke of her hope that his doppelganger had returned home safely and he offered her an encouraging smile. “I’m sure he did,” He didn’t know for sure but somewhere inside of him, he felt that the husband and wife had been reunited.

He blinked as she asked about her other self and he chuckled a bit again. “She was definitely you, just with four kids,” He said, pulling back from her once more but still keeping the connection to her with his arms. “She still had the same strength as you, though it was a bit more focused on protecting her family than fighting. Though it was definitely strange to see a different version of you in an apron,” He teased before he settled into a bit of a warmer look. “She’d sacrificed a lot to protect me…or well, other me. And it made me aware of just how much you’ve done for me too.”

He gave her an apologetic smile. “I know I don’t always thank you for everything, Lev. I’m fairly open with most things but I don’t always voice my appreciation or my feelings. Maybe it’s from everything that’s happened or maybe I’m just broken,” A short embarrassed laugh before he continued. “But you’ve helped me through a lot. You’ve been my family when I practically had none. And I owe you a lot; more than perhaps I can say. But I hope you know that I love you, Levana. I’m just sorry I haven’t said it enough to you.”

“Really, she couldn’t fly at all anymore?” she asked somewhat surprised about her counterpart. She found it a bit hard to believe actually and maybe felt slightly insulted even. Probably it was just her own pride kicking in, though theoretically it was not about herself, but in some weird way it was…

“Well, you… he didn’t really felt like flying either, but I … just made him do it,” she laughed while she recalled the odd situation on the roof, “I mean, I couldn’t carry him around right? That would have been really… oh, wait…” she paused briefly and looked back up at her friend, while she realized something, “If she couldn’t fly… does that mean you actually carried her?! ”

Levana smiled when Chishan answered her question and explained what the other Levana was like. She couldn’t help but the roll her eyes and give him a slightly sarcastic grin as he mentioned the four kids an the apron, “Oh, you think that is funny eh? You know Husband Chishan drives a car and wears a suit to work? AND he took a cooking class.”

It was nice and funny to talk about, now that everything was back to normal, but as Chishan continued to talk he seemed to become a bit more serious again. For a moment she slightly worried what might follow next, but she grinned again when he started to get a bit… sentimental.

His words about how much he really appreciated her, almost made her feel awkward; awkward as in a bit bashful, when the conversation suddenly took a different and more emotional direction.

She appreciated what he said, but she wasn’t quite sure what the answer. These were like those things you probably knew, but never really said out load. At least they didn’t, “You don’t need to thank me…” she answered softly. To be honest, she did not have the feeling she had done that much for him at all, on the contrary, she left him and the team behind. She was not there for him during the War or when he lost Mathilda.

But it were his last words that completely stunned her. Her eyes locked with his and she could only stared. Not in a millions years would she have expected that he would say that he loved her. She couldn’t even remember the last time someone had told her so loud and clear that they loved her and it made his words affect her so much more than she could imagine.

Lilim was wrong, she was completely wrong. Chishan did care about her, he even said he loved her. Suddenly it all seemed to make sense. She felt comfortable and safe in his arms, he definitely wasn’t bad looking and they were already married in a different timeline after all. Could this be the lesson that other Chishan meant? Could it be that they were still meant to be together? Without Strega and Mathilda they actually would have been together already.

Her eyes briefly looked down to his lips, before locking with his brown eyes again, while she softly caressed the back of his neck.

WC 525 / 24,901

A soft blush came to Chishan’s cheeks as Levana drove the question home about the other Levana and how they had apparently got around. He pulled a hand back to scratch the back of his head and chuckled rather bashfully. “Yeah I might have carried her. She wasn’t too happy about it. Though in her defense, I did pick her up without asking,” Boy that had been embarrassing. He expected his Levana would smack him too for being so bold.

The Lightning Lord chuckled a little as she told him a bit about his other self. “Yeah, I was asked about the car at least once from your other self. And she commented on the outfit, though I didn’t take the time to look through my other’s closet. A cooking class though? No, we all remember what happened the last time I tried to cook. It went absolutely terrible. I don’t think I will be doing that at all here,” He said with a slight shake of his head snorting a laugh through his nose.

“Hey, I do need to thank you. You’ve been there for me for years. I know we’ve drifted apart a few times but we always come back and it always makes me happy when we do,” He said with a genuine smile, reaching to her shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze. It was true she hadn’t been there for some of the bigger moments of his life but she had been there for enough to warrant the praise. She had always been supportive, even if it was in a teasing manner or an authentically caring manner.

Chishan didn’t quite understand what he had done with his words. In his eyes, he had said he loved Levana in a way that meant familial but he sure hadn’t put it so in words. Despite his adventure in the other realm, his mind hadn’t fully turned to the idea of Levana being someone he could be intimate with. Was that because of their history together as more like siblings? Or was it something deeper and hidden that he refused to confront? Chishan couldn’t tell and in that moment wasn’t even thinking about it. He met her gaze with a warm smile and actually enjoyed her hand on his neck.

There was a small pocket of silence between them before he finally spoke up with a short laugh. “Look at me; I completely interrupted your shower. Why don’t you finish up and I’ll wait in the living room? I feel like I need to sit down after this entire day,” He said with a dramatic eye roll. He gave her one last squeeze of the shoulder before he started to pull away…

WC: 454 / 27,170

She had to laugh when Chishan cheeks turned red and she softly shook her head, as he had to admit that he had picked up Wife Levana without asking and flew her around. If her counterpart was anything like her, she could imagine very well that she had not been too happy about that. Though ‘not too happy’, would be a strong underestimation.

“Apparently, that ‘cooking adventure’ is something we still share with them, he took the classes after they got married. So hey there is still hope…” she smiled as she continued to tell other Chishans story.

Again she shook her head a bit and smiled as a gesture that he was exaggerating, when he insisted on the compliments and how much she meant to him. She had never realised how he felt about her, it was a bit weird but nice at the same time, and it made her think a bit more about the ‘what if’.

She felt how she slowly bended closer to him, while she still looked him in the eyes and her hand continued the play with his hair. Suddenly he started to pull back and apologized for interrupting her shower.

“Oh, right,” she basically had forgotten about that, also since she mostly did it to get away from other Chishan for a moment.

“You can stay, so we can continue to talk,” she replied, while she let go of him again and already turned back to the bathroom, “I mean… never mind…” she quickly added, while her cheeks turned slightly red. Damn, that came out a bit wrong maybe. She didn’t really meant anything by it, even if now she could slowly see beyond their sibling-like relationship and started to realise what more there could be. Probably she was just afraid that he would vanish again, one way or another, if she let him go now.

On the other hand, his response might be a quick answer about what he really felt about her. Did he feel the change between them too? After all he just made it very clear how much she meant to him and that he loved her…

WC 360 / 25,261

Chishan laughed pretty hard as she insinuated that they could take a cooking class sometime in the future. “Even after that terrible meal I made, you’d still brave a class with me?” He asked, smiling wide as he looked at her. Then he shook his head. “Hey, why not. It might actually be kind of fun,” He didn’t really pick up on the ‘being married’ part of the story.

He blinked a bit at her offer for him to stay so he could talk to her. Unknowingly a small part of him became aware of what the invitation could be taken as but he pushed that back. After all, Levana was quick to shake the idea off. He chuckled and took a moment to look her over, as if he was deciding if it was worth it or not. It was odd seeing her like this after so long; before he wouldn’t have even caused any kind of activity in his head. But now there was a slight stirring, in light of where they could have wound up. That potential ‘what if’ that had come to fruition in another timeline.

“Sure, I can stay,” He answered back, nodding and smiling. Before any semblance of misunderstanding could settle in he was quick to add; “I’ll stay right here by the door if you prefer. I don’t want you to feel like I’m just watching you shower. Even when we showered on the Phoenixfall, we had the dividers between us,” Part of him did really want to go and rest on the couch for a bit. He felt like he’d been on his feet all day and rushing around trying to find answers. It would be nice to just relax.

Then again, after everything that had happened, he didn’t really want to leave her side. Their little adventure had shown him just how little time he got to spend with his old friend and he certainly didn’t want to lose any more time. Kais forbid another portal opened and sucked him up into another dimension.

He would lean against the doorway and smile as he waited for her reaction.

WC: 357 / 27,527

She smiled as well and softly shrugged when he laughed about the idea of taking a cooking class, “Well, I worked out okay for your other self, he actually cooked spaghetti and meatballs for us tonight and I’m still alive so far…” she joked, “Oh, there is still a bit left probably, If you want or if you dare to eat it.”

She immediately regretted her suggestion of him staying while she showered, the moment she stepped in the bathroom. Why did she even do that? Was she really suggesting something there or she just didn’t mind having him around and it didn’t mean anything at all? She honestly didn’t know, this day had been so weird. With all the different emotions rushing through her in such a short time, she was sure what she was feeling. There was the joy of seeing him again after such a long time, then the surprise and fear when they got swapped, thinking she might never see him again. But the worst thing was probably the realising that they could have been more than just friends, in a different time and place though. No, the worst part was when she freaked out from a moment and thought that the other Chishan was Lilim… Oh god, what a mess.

Levana partially closed the door behind her when she entered the bathroom so Chishan could still hear her but not really see her, unless he really wanted to and would lean more to the side.

She stared at her own reflection in the mirror for a brief moment and all of a sudden she realised how tired she actually was, as if the adrenaline had finally worn out and her whole body felt just as heavy as if she had been in a hard training session.

“You know, it’s getting rather late I think and it’s been a hell of a day,” she started to say to him, though a small part of her might wanted him to stay with her until tomorrow, and not in any other way then they used to, “Maybe you should go back to your ship maybe, before Apio and your new girl are getting worried. We can catch up another time maybe.”

WC 373 / 25,634

Chishan laughed. “Spaghetti and meatballs. Now that is unique,” He nodded softly as he thought about how terrible it would turn out if he actually tried. It was good to know that his other self was truly settled into the life of a husband and a father, even going as far as to cook for his family. He smiled at the thought and the joke she said right after. “Well that’s good to hear. I should probably eat something; ever since I left this afternoon, I’ve basically been in constant ‘go’ mode.” He hadn’t realized the emptiness he felt in his stomach then at just the mere mention of eating.

But he didn’t want to leave Levana yet, not until she was done showering. He watched her move into the bathroom and close the door enough that he couldn’t quite see in but he could definitely hear. He turned slowly and rested against the doorframe, crossing his arms over his chest as he waited patiently. He assumed she would be the first to speak and as it turned out, she was. Though suddenly her mood seemed to shift again; now she was suggesting he should go home. His brow furrowed and he turned his head a bit to look over his shoulder, just barely seeing her side through the crack in the door.

“I mean, if that’s what you want me to do. I honestly don’t want to leave yet. I only barely got to see you this afternoon and after everything that happened I…” He drifted off for a moment. Maybe she was just honestly tired? It sounded like she had been running around just as much as he had, only getting a few moments to rest when they had sat down for dinner. And he was tired as well; sore and exhausted from all the effort he had to put in.

But despite all that. “Listen if you’re tired and you’d like to go to bed, that’s fine. But can I at least stay until then? I’ve missed you Levana and I don’t want to leave yet. We didn’t get a chance to really catch up or spend time with one another. And honestly after seeing the other version of you, it made me realize just how much I miss having you in my life. She fought so hard to help her Chishan and I wouldn’t be doing right by her if I didn’t do the same to keep you with me.”

WC: 414 / 27,941

She could only nodded and grin in agreement when he mentioned it being quite ‘unique’ for him, or his other self at least, to have cooked spaghetti and meatballs and especially the part that it was actually good. Her thoughts wondered of again for a moment to that previous time Chishan had prepared that meal, years ago. Damn, who would have thought there was actually still hope for him considering cooking? Rubic never understood the whole fuzz about diner of course, but oh man, how funny would it be if she could just tell about this to Apio, Pan… and Mino.

Her grin slowly faded again with those last thoughts. They had no idea at all where Pan was and Mino wasn’t Mino anymore, and it didn’t seem like they would get him back either.

Levana sighed and looked at her own reflection in the mirror, “Stop dwelling on the past…” she mumbled to herself, silent enough so Chishan would probably not hear her. Yes, she had lost friends and loved ones, but so had everyone else and they moved on too. After all, it was not like mourning would bring any of them back. She had to focus on the good things; Chishan and Apio were still there, Pan and Rubic were out there somewhere. She had Mimi and Serah. And she had met some new people on the way; Azrael, Nine, Kranzer and Vash. She wondered how they had been, maybe she should try to get in touch again, see what they had been up to.

Her head turned to the side and she stared at the half open door in between her and the full blood Saiyan. For a moment she wanted to convince him that it was okay for him to leave and get a rest, there was always tomorrow to meet again… But with everything that had happened today and all the previous times they lost contact, how sure could you really be that there would be another chance? Never postpone what you can do the same day, never hesitate to tell your loved ones how much you really care. And that seemed to be exactly what Chishan was doing now.

His words truly touched her, probably she always knew he cared for her, but hearing him say it out loud was still something else. She grinned once more and opened the door again. The feline girl wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him on the cheek, “I missed you too.” It was just a short reply, not a long monologue about how much he meant to her, but should be enough.

She pulled back a little and locked eyes with him for a moment without saying anything, before she completely let go again.

“Now, I’m really going to shower or we’ll be here forever,” she smiled and partially closed the bathroom door again, before she started to take of her clothes.

“Do you actually have any idea where Rubic might be?” she asked her friend, while she stepped in the shower and opened the tap.

The hot water started to run down and she sighed in relief, this felt really good. Immediately both her body and mind seemed to relax and her thoughts wondered of to nowhere in particular, while she just enjoyed the sound of the running water.

She had no idea how long she was in there already, ten minutes or twenty maybe, but it didn’t really matter, she could still sense Chishans presence just a few meters away and that was enough. After a while, she got back to the present and grabbed some shampoo wash her long white hair.

When she stepped out of the shower again and started to dry her hair and body, she looked around the bathroom and suddenly realised she hadn’t brought any clean clothes or pyjama’s or whatever. When she originally left to take a shower, the other Chishan had still been there and she had actually used it more as an excuse to be alone for a moment than to actually shower. She had planned to just put on the same clothes again, because she assumed something else might have been awkward, since he was married to her in some other timeline…

Anyway, that was not really an issue anymore now, since he was gone and her Chishan was back, so she didn’t need to get back in her dirty clothes. Instead she wrapped one awful pink towel around her wet hair and another around her body, before she stepped outside.

“Forgot something,” she simply declared, while she quickly passed by Chishan and walked through the hallway to her bedroom.

WC 779 / 26,413

It had been a long day. That much was obvious by just how tired the both of them were. Despite the happiness that came from finally being within each other’s company once more, they had met up in the early afternoon and now night had almost completely settled in. The sun had long since dipped below the horizon and now the crescent moon had begun to climb up, taking its place among the dark and starry blanket of night. And while he wasn’t one for going to bed at such an early hour—it was still early evening at best—the amount of running around he had done had severely worn him out.

And yet, he still didn’t want to leave and he said as much to Levana. He was quiet after he finished speaking, waiting to hear from her about what her decision was. The silence that stayed there for a moment and he turned slightly, unsure if she had heard him in the first place. A debate opened itself up in his mind; did he open the door and repeat himself? He didn’t want to intrude on her privacy, much like he was sure the husband version of him very well could have. Luckily both of the ‘real’ versions of Levana and Chishan had avoided any physical contact that may have been considered pushing boundaries. Now that he was returned, he didn’t really want to press into territory that was, at best, confusing now.

Then again, he wanted her to know how he felt. As selfish as it sounded, he had been robbed of some real bonding time with his old friend and he didn’t want to delay time spent by another day because honestly, who knew what tomorrow would hold? Something could happen that would require him to rush off without a moment’s notice and then he wouldn’t see her for months. It was something he wanted to avoid doing as best he could, unless the most dramatic of circumstances came up.

In the end, as his hand was reaching for the door, she suddenly appeared once more, a smile on her face as she stepped up and wrapped her arms around his neck. Before he could respond any further, a small peck was placed on his cheek and she quietly told him that she had missed him too. It was short but sweet and it earned her another deep hug as his arms went around her and pulled her tight against him.

It was a brief hug, as she pulled back and finally declared that she was truly going to shower this time. He almost shot her a quick joke about not being bothered about keeping her there but then again, she was already half-undressed and the shower was waiting there. With a small shake of his head and a smile, he leaned back against the doorway as she finally opted to undress and get into the tub, though she asked him quite the interesting question in the meantime.

“I’ve heard from Rubic but I’m…honestly not sure where he is. Last I heard he needed to go to Kelioux and needed help getting some information. I was busy at the time and couldn’t get there to help out so I contacted a friend of mine that could get there and assist him. Beyond that…well, I haven’t heard from him. He didn’t mention anything about Pan either, which is strange considering she was the one that had taken him after everything happened with the Steel Legion.” He sighed and bent his head back, pressing it against the doorframe. “Honestly I have more questions now than answers. It honestly seems the last two standing from Team Rocket or Phoenix Rising is…well us. And Apio.”

Yes, they were the last two pillars of two groups that had once been so strong, so united. And even they had drifted apart from time to time. He hadn’t lost any amount of care for any of them, even the ones that had disappeared. He’d find them again someday…hopefully. Or save the ones that had been lost. His thoughts briefly went to Minosha, and of what Agatha had told him about the Konatsian. He shook the thoughts away, not wanting to concern Levana with that for now. Not until he had some viable proof and evidence of what was happening. He wanted to see Minosha for himself, talk to him…try to understand why he was doing the things Agatha had seen him doing.

His concentration was broken as the water shut off in the shower and he could hear Levana step out. He waited quietly until the door swung open and she brazenly marched past him clad only in towels. She stated she had forgotten something and it was more than obvious what she meant. “What, no clothes?” He teased her with a grin. “You were always so good about remembering those when you were on the Phoenixfall.”

Truthfully, none of them had been—save perhaps Levana. Chishan and Apio saw no taboo with walking around half-clothed or completely naked and with only one showering area…well it was safe to say the group of them knew each other fairly well. He didn’t follow right after her, watching as she moved down the hallway to her room. He would remain there unless she called out to him and asked him to join her in there.

WC: 901 / 28,842

Levana only briefly rolled her eyes as Chishan made a joke about her forgetting her clothes, but didn’t say anything as she disappeared in her room and closed the door behind her before she dropped the towels. She knew that most people, Saiyans to be exactly, among their previous crew cared much about wearing clothes or not and sharing rooms or even showering areas… but she was just not that comfortable with it, she liked her privacy. Not that it would mean anything of course if the full blood Sayain, her oldest friend, would indeed see her like that… like he met this new girl now, so probably it wouldn’t mean anything, she was more like a sister to him anyway, so… Maybe…

The feline girl shook her head and grinned softly over her own weird thoughts. She and Chishan, what a stupid idea. It had just been a very long day.

While she looked through the drawer to find something to wear, her thoughts wandered off again to what he had mentioned about Rubic and Pan. It was good to hear that Rubic was still… alive? Or operational was maybe a better word for the good old droid. It was strange indeed that Pan wasn’t with him anymore, but as far as she knew she tended to do just that now and then, disappear, just take some time for herself. Pan was tough, she would be fine. She had never been really close to the female Sayian, neither of them were really girly girls to do girl stuff together, but she they would always be there for each other if needed, of that she was sure. So she really hoped that she would be okay and just suddenly show up again one day with some crazy story of where she had been all that time, preferably with Minosha by her side, their Minosha. And maybe they could all travel together again. That thought brought a smile to her face and she probably felt better then she had all day. Yeah, they would all be alright.

Finally she just picked some shorts and a shirt from the closet that served as sleeping clothes, nothing fancy, nothing sexy and nothing he hadn’t seen her in before. She briefly rustled through her still moist hair and opened the door again to get back to her friend.

“All done,” she smiled softly, “And I didn’t forget my clothes… I just didn’t want to walk around like this with your alter ego still here….”

“Let’s go back to the living room or you gone stand around in the hallway all night?”
