Fortune Days, Part 1 "Discovery is dangerous… but so is life. A man unwilling to take risk is doomed never to learn, never to grow, never to live." The Corsair whipped through the sky at a brisk pace, polluting the air with the sharp sound of its thrusters. Elemento was getting better at maneuvering his ship. He wasn't the star pilot that some adventurers out there were, but he could get the job done. It was one of the many things he's had to live and learn. Meanwhile, the onboard navigation computer finally announced Elemento's arrival in the Fortune region. He had only been flying for an hour or so, but he guessed that was one of the perks of traversing Earth rather than the galaxy at large. It didn't take a week to get across Earth, maybe that was the incentive of exploring the planet. Moreover, revisiting planets he's already touched down on for the sake of exploration. That seemed like the true way of an adventurer to him. Again, he had to live and learn. Elemento flicked a few switches and reduced his speed as he neared a dusty cliff overlooking most of the region, the last switch he hit deployed his landing gear. The warrior then began to move the control column back, increasing the Corsairs angle of attack. As he continually pressed the control column back, this allowed his ship to settle onto the arid ground without much trouble. The Corsair had completed a controlled touchdown, one of the few Elemento had properly executed. He figured he had to stop crash landing eventually, now was as good a time as any. As he stepped out of his ship, the hot, desert air clang to his body and the cape gifted to him by Maverick whipped back and forth in the warm wind. He didn't realize it, but he was looking more and more like so many of the heroes he admired in the first place. As he looked out from atop the cliff where he landed The Corsair, he looked impressive. Regal almost, in some kind of sense of the word. Somewhere along the way, he had acquired a fairly commanding presence. He truly had grown into a fine warrior, but he had a long way to go and the land that stood before him was his grand catalyst. As he peered over the cliff and into the vast desert region before him, a striking clang echoed throughout the canyons. The sound caught his ear, as it resonated from just a couple miles off in the distance. Despite how close the sound seemed to be, he couldn't see what was making it from where he was. Curiosity getting the better of him, he launched off the cliff and shot toward the sound. He needed to find a town of some kind anyway, it couldn't hurt to seek the sound out. Elemento cut through the air, sailing close to the ground and kicking up dust as he flew. The sound was getting closer, or he was getting closer to it. As he closed in on where the sound emanated from, his speed increased. Shooting through the golden canyons and desert tunnels of the Fortune region. He could make it out now, it was clearer. Machinery. The sound of some kind of mechanical racket, but the strange thing was that it sounded familiar for some reason. Elemento couldn't figure out why at this moment, but he would soon enough. As he came to a sliding stop against the dusty ground, he saw it with his own crimson eyes. It was a mech. One of the very same mechs that escaped Damaskia just moments before Pendragon executed Lucius Rockwell, the Triumvirates scapegoat. Elemento recognized it immediately, despite the fact that it was worse for wear and making a horrific racket. It seemed to be malfunctioning in some way, it's left arm making a horrible, screeching clang as it moved ever so slightly. He didn't know a thing about robotics, but he figured if somebody could reprogram it or something, it could be used for just about anything other than the purpose intended by the triumvirate. Whatever that intention was. Elemento didn't even have time to turn away from the towering robot before a woman speedily pulled up behind him. She flicked off the ignition of her hover bike and slid off, only to shout at Elemento. "Step away from my machine, you dirty scavenger! It's not for sale yet. It wasn't last week, it wasn't yesterday, and it isn't today!" She exclaimed, clearly intent on keeping the machine for whatever reason. Elemento turned to face the woman and right then, it seemed both parties were equally surprised by what they were looking at. Albeit for different reasons. For Elemento, it was how strikingly beautiful this shouting desert woman was. A brunette worthy of a number of positive adjectives. For Lola however, she knew who Elemento was. She had heard of his escapades on Damaskia. The fugitive bird man who destroyed three city blocks in a fight against Pendragons subordinate. She knew it right when she looked at him, his outfit, everything. It clicked instantly. "You. You're Elemento." She said, still a touch surprised and confused as to what he was doing in Fortune. Moreover, what he was doing looking at her machine. "I am, who's asking?" He questioned, a scowl of uncertainty corrupting his face. He didn't think many, if any had heard of him. As it turned out, he didn't go as unnoticed as he thought. Becoming a fugitive like he did, he became worth something. Valuable to hunters. Bounty hunters, collectors, assassins. These were the kinds of circles Lola ran with at one point. She heard what they heard, even now. "I'm Lola Montez. I'm a scrapper and smuggler. I don't usually open with my profession but I know you're as wanted, if not more, than me. So what can it hurt, right?" She said with a smirk, taking her right hand glove off and sticking her hand out to Elemento for a handshake. "The pleasure is all yours. What the hell brings you out here, bird man? You won't find much city to level here." She cheekily continued, as he took her hand. She certainly had charisma, or sass, Elemento really couldn't decide which at this point. Elemento took her hand, flabbergasted. This was none other than Lola Montez, the same Lola Montez he was seeking out. She was gorgeous. That didn't matter, because he would've asked for her help against the triumvirate even if she was dirt ugly, but her beauty was worth noting in this instance. She simply wasn't what he was expecting. "I'm here looking for you, as it turns out." He established, finishing their handshake that seemed to go on far too long for its own good. Lola let out a light, delightful chuckle at the thought before finally entertaining his statement. "Me!? What for? You need your ship repaired or something?" She asked out of sheer curiosity. She really was handy when it came to repairing ships, she learned a thing or two after spending most of her formative years on them. "You're aware of what happened with me on Damaskia and you're aware of the Triumvirate. What you don't know is that's who I've been fighting all along, they're behind all of it. Everything I got wrapped up in on Damaskia was their doing. They put me through hell and quite frankly, I'm not willing to let them move forward with any more of their plans. The trouble is, I don't think I can do it alone. I need help and there's only so many people out there who are in a position like I am. A position of knowing. A position of being aware of the Triumvirate. You're one of the few, Lola." Elemento explained, a genuine sincerity coming through after going through the motions of explaining why he needed her help. "Heh. Look, I'm flattered by the offer but I'm not suicidal. What you're talking about doing? It's out of even your league, Elemento. I've heard what they're doing from...old friends of mine and the Triumvirate disgust me, don't get me wrong. In my pirate days, I would've jumped all over the chance to try and take down somebody like the Triumvirate, but my life is here in Fortune now. I've got priorities of my own." Lola stated, more or less shooting down Elemento's proposal. "I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation. I've seen first hand what they're capable of. I've been at their mercy. You think you're safe here on Earth, here in Fortune? You're not. They'll come for you too, just like they did me. I have it on good authority that they're eliminating anyone who even holds a potential threat to them. Anyone who knows of them disagrees with what they're doing. They've got data on each of us. If I could stop them myself, I wouldn't need you." Elemento said, quickly getting aggressive. "Wait. Us? Who all is ther-...?" Lola asked, but didn't quite finish, because she witnessed two ominous ships making their landing in the distance. Soldiers began funneling out in single file, marching toward Lola and Elemento. Elemento and Lola were suddenly surrounded, the arid sun beating down on them and their adversaries. The soldiers were clad in slick, black armor, complete with neon red lines in the crevices, and with what appeared to be some variation of a biker helmet covering their face and head. There were ten, maybe twelve of them and they were accompanied by a towering machine. Elemento couldn't tell if it was a sentient machine or if it was being piloted, but it was intimidating nonetheless. "Who are you supposed to be?" Lola questioned outright, her naturally soft eyes being overtaken by a hard scowl. Her typical effervescence clouded with stormy derision and confusion as to what they wanted from the likes of her or Elemento. A specific soldier stepped out from the many to speak, "We understand you're in possession of EMPIRE technology, we're here to take it back." The soldier shortly stated, his voice deep and muffled by either his helmet or some kind of voice changing apparatus. "Oh yeah? Then how'd it get here in the first place, huh? This thing lands in what might as well be my backyard, courtesy of the Triumvirate no less, and you expect me to just hand it over? Well tough shit. The mech is mine now." Lola barked, unwilling to part with the machinery. "We will not hesitate to use force. In combat, you are statistically unlikely to succeed. Surrender the technology or we will take it. I repeat, we will not hesitate to use force." The soldier commanded, unwavering. "I think you're all talk!" Lola spat, leaning toward the soldier, getting up close and personal with him. It was debatable whether or not she had it in her to defeat the soldier that she was so cockily going back and forth with. Even if she did, could she and Elemento really take on a crowd of this size? "You're barking up the wrong tree, Montez..." Elemento said, sternly. He was unaware of what the soldiers were capable of but if they were with the triumvirate, they had to be trouble. Big trouble. On top of it all, there was the fact that Elemento couldn't seem to get a proper read on their energy signatures. He had no idea how strong these guys were. This was a fight or flight kind of situation and by the sound of it, if Lola got her way, they were going to be fighting. Without another word, Lola slammed her right fist into the soldiers stomach, landing a gutting uppercut that cracked the abdominal piece of his armor. Lola was commendable in her blind attack against the soldier, but also horribly foolish. The soldier reciprocated by backhanding Lola, sending her hurtling into a nearby rock formation. Though their power wasn't obvious, it seemed they were plenty strong. Elemento disappeared and reappeared to aid Lola, he helped her out of the rock and put her back on her feet. He quickly reappeared in front of the soldier, taking Lola's place. He didn't know what these clowns were capable of but he couldn't just let Lola get thrown to the side like a rag doll. Much to Elemento's surprise, the soldier threw the first punch, his gloved fist slashing the air before connecting with Elemento's body. The bird warrior was narrowly able to parry the attack with his forearm, and thus push the soldier back for just a moment. Looked like he stood a chance here, at least for the time being. Wanting to keep his streak of luck going, Elemento continued with a sharp left hook aimed for the ribcage of the soldier. His fist slammed through the oblique plates of the soldiers armor and collided with his ribs. The soldier jolted in pain, his body jerking down to his right a bit. However, he used the downward motion as momentum and sideswiped Elemento in the ear. A cheap shot, but an effective one. Blood dripped out from his ear as he began to writhe in pain and shock from the intense ringing in his head. As he struggled to get back into the thick of it, the rest of the soldiers charged toward Lola's machine in an effort to abscond with it. Simultaneously, Lola sprang back into action. When Elemento finally got his bearings, he looked up to find the soldiers' own machine and its massive mechanical fists plowing toward him. WC: 732 TWC; 2,266 |

The battle came to a close quickly and Elemento was now slipping in and out of consciousness. After a while, the warrior vaguely felt his limp body being yanked up off the ground and carried away. He heard shouts and screams from unfamiliar voices, and the sounds of thrusters and machinery as the assailants fled overhead. The next thing he felt was the sharp tingle of liquid rush against his skin. He was being dumped into a rejuvenation tank. He didn't know where, he couldn't be bothered to try and perceive that at the moment. Getting beat to the point of needing rejuvenation was becoming far too common place for Elemento. The encounter had gone horribly awry, all he could remember was being completely surrounded. EMPIRE soldiers and a colossal machine. After a more or less even bout of close quarters combat with one of the soldiers, he was caught in an unexpected duel with their machine. A short lived power struggle ensued, the last thing he remembered was the sound of two grotesque pops as his shoulders were dislocated. When he heard those sounds, he knew it was too late. No turning back. His muscles contracted and his bones cracked, he knew the feeling all too well. The only thing he could hear now was warbled music in the distance and the faint voice of Lola. He might have been mangled but at least she was okay. It seemed the Triumvirate were getting a little more aggressive in their approach. First a bounty hunter, now soldiers and machines? The EMPIRE name was starting to make sense. Elemento wondered, where the hell did the Triumvirate get the money for trained soldiers? Jean-Luc Belmont came surging to the forefront of his mind. The wealthy financier of the Triumvirate whom Elemento first encountered back on Maverick. Regardless of how they were affording it, these soldiers weren't to be taken lightly. Elemento could only go toe to toe with one of them at a time and even then, it was almost a completely even match. The Triumvirate were getting stronger. More steadfast in their resolve. This didn't bode well for Elemento. However, this did serve as a harsh reminder that he needed Lola and company. It wasn't a matter of choice anymore. He could meet his demise at the Triumvirates hand, allowing them to move forward with whatever heinous plans they've got in store for the galaxy. Or, instead, he could fight. He could try and finish the fight that he fell into in the first place. Meet his destiny head on. There was still so much that Elemento didn't know about his enemy, he knew little about the force he had been going up against. He had seen them in the flesh only once, and even then, their presence was shrouded in mystery. Hell, he didn't even know that they were the ones behind what happened on Damaskia until Babosa told him. All he knew at this point was that they wanted him out of the picture and that they had their own agenda for the galaxy, one that was also not very well known. Although after what they tried to pull on Damaskia, Elemento assumed it couldn't be good and quite frankly, he didn't want to give them the chance to see it through. Whatever the case was with the Triumvirate and their plans, they seemed to be moving forward and moving forward fast. If they got too out of hand, Elemento wouldn't be able to stop them. Right now, he had a chance, albeit a small one. Time wasn't on his side though, Elemento and company would have to act fast if they wanted to put a stop to the Triumvirate and EMPIRE. Within a matter of months, everything could change. WC: 631 TWC: 2,897 |

When he opened his eyes, it was revealed to him that he was in some sort of medical facility. He had occupied this rejuvenation chamber for only six hours, his shortest stint yet. He removed the oxygen mask and unplugged the various pads and tubes stuck to his body. He then threw up the lever on the chamber door and the water began to drain. When the chamber finally slid open and he stepped out, he found himself greeted by Lola and company. He almost thought for a moment that he had stepped out in all of his naked glory but luckily, he was wearing under shorts this time. That would've made for quite the entrance though. Completely nude in front of a beautiful human woman and her compatriots, hell, maybe that would have convinced her to join him in his fight. "Welcome back to the world of the living, bird man. You really took that machine head on back there, you're lucky you didn't get crushed." Lola said, springing up from a chair. "Yeah, call it luck." Elemento said plainly, unsure of whether or not he really considered what happened to be lucky. "Who's this?" He continued, wondering about the semi-tall, bearded figure, standing alongside Lola. "Elemento, this is Fitzroy. We're standing here thanks to him. Right after you went down, I did my best to fight the soldiers off, but there were just too many. Fitzroy showed up in the knick of time and saw we were in trouble. He acted fast, hopping into the gunner seat of his vessel. He hit them with a barrage of turret fire, killing a few of them dead. The rest retreated and with them, went my machine." Lola explained, half gushing over Fitzroy's knack for getting her out of trouble and half admitting defeat at the hands of the Triumvirate soldiers. "Captain Fitzroy at your service, mate. Pleasure to meet ya, honor among outlaws and all that." Fitzroy stated, sticking a hand out to shake Elemento's. "I trust your respite in the tank was satisfactory? Our rejuv chambers may be older models, but I'll be damned if they don't get the job done." Fitzroy added. He had the kind of swashbuckling vernacular one would expect from a pirate, but it was almost entirely due to his planet of origin. "Nice to meet you. You really got us out of a bind. With who we're dealing with, we're lucky we got out alive." Elemento replied before continuing his line of questioning for Lola and Fitzroy. "How'd you two meet?" He finished, still curious as to what their relationship was at this point. They didn't seem involved, but Elemento really couldn't tell one way or the other. "Me and Fitzroy go way back. We met during my space pirate days. When I was a teenager, lawlessly sailing the seven stars, he was a galactic privateer. We crossed paths a handful of times, but naturally, we were on opposing sides. Ironically enough, it wouldn't be until I disowned the space pirates and he got dishonorably discharged that our paths would cross on even terms." Lola described, illustrating a bit of a backdrop for what her life used to be like. "He's been like a father to me. I owe everything I know to Fitzroy. Without him, I never could've accomplished what I have. He's why I'm standing here right now, and I imagine at least partially why you're here looking for me." Lola finished, finally cutting to the chase as to what Fitzroy really meant to her. He was but a mentor, a teacher. Elemento nodded, unsure of how to respond to their explanation of their relationship. However, he was relieved to find out that Lola had a strong connection with someone who could very easily come in handy. He could use anyone at his disposal, this he knew. If his time in the rejuvenation chamber was good for anything at all, it was the realizations he seemed to have while within. It gave him perspective. As Elemento turned to grab his clothes and slip them on, he began speaking to Lola once more. Largely cutting to the chase thanks to his newfound understanding of what it might take to go up against the Triumvirate. He had to get her to reconsider his proposal. "Speaking of looking for you, I urge you to reconsider my proposition. I know we just met, Lola. I know it's a dangerous situation. I know it's a shot in the dark, but you've seen now what they're capable of. Are you with me?" The warrior questioned once more, hoping against hope she'd reconsider after the fateful event that had just transpired. Lola glanced at Fitzroy and then back at Elemento. She crossed her arms, bit her lip, and deliberated over the idea. Many factors came into play. Could she afford to leave? Would she really be of that much help? Could she get her machine back in the process? And most importantly, would she make it out alive? All viable concerns, but she decided she didn't particularly care about them. "Those Triumvirate Soldiers really rubbed me the wrong way, so I'll help you on two conditions, bird man. First, I insist Fitzroy joins us. He's invaluable on land and in space. Second, if we're going to do this, we get my machine back in the process. Deal?" Lola reasoned, making her wishes known before finally extending her hand to Elemento. "Looks like you've got yourself a deal, Lola Montez." Elemento smirked, taking her hand and sealing the verbal contract with a firm handshake. There it was, the answer he was waiting for. They might have still had a long and dangerous road ahead of them, but at least Elemento wasn't going it alone anymore. WC: 959 TWC: 3,856 |

The evening had set in across the arid Fortune region when the motley group of acquaintances decidedly reconvened aboard Fitzroy's carrier vessel. They decided if they were going to fight the Triumvirate at all, they couldn't go into it blindly. They had to have a plan. So, they sat down aboard Fitzoys vessel and laid everything out. Goals, objectives, possible pitfalls, risks, dangers, everything. "Before we get right down to what we're going to do here, I'd like to thank you both for joining this fight. I never wanted this but the triumvirate is just the gift that won't stop giving. I leave the planet I found them on, they follow me to the next. I leave that planet, they ambush me here. It ends with us now." Elemento expressed, clearly frustrated with the series of events that lead up to this point. They had beaten him, not only physically, but mentally. This whole journey of his, a journey to become some great warrior, a journey of self discovery? It was killing him. Though the changes might not have been noticeable on the outside, Elemento was breaking down. He thought he was ready for the harsh challenge of taking on the universe, but the universe was bringing him to his knees. The sad part is that even he didn't quite know it yet. "We've all got something to gain from this. You get justice for the shit they've put you through. I get my machine back. And at the end of the day, all of us can take satisfaction in never having to hear about them again." Lola remarked before getting a bit more serious and pulling out a map of the galaxy. "Now, I've heard through the grapevine that the Triumvirate are making various political appearances on planets of choice. From what I understand, their next stop is Avalon." She finished, tracing a path with her fingers through the stars to planet Avalon. "Of course. That must have been what they were doing on Maverick with Jean Luc Belmont." Elemento stated, recalling his mysterious but short lived encounter with the group on planet Maverick. "Jean Luc Belmont? Who the hell is that?" Lola replied, unsure of whom the name belonged to. "Belmont is one of the wealthiest men in the galaxy, he must be their financier. If he's involved with the Triumvirate, they've got no lack of funding. All the more reason why we need to act fast." Fitzroy chimed in almost instantaneously. "Fitzroy is right. If they've got money, I imagine that they've got no lack of soldiers at their disposal and who knows what else. Those troopers we fought earlier were just the beginning. Now is the time to strike. Fresh on the heels of their stealing Lola's machine and their political stop on Avalon, we've got them in the best place we could hope to have them. I say we leave for Avalon tomorrow at dawn." Elemento established, expounding on Fitzroys point. "So it's settled. I'll pack my things tonight." Lola stated, gung-ho about leaving for the desert world of Avalon. Half of her reasoning for joining Elemento was because it gave her an excuse to leave the planet. And a valid excuse at that, they did steal her machine after all. "Alright. If we're going to do this, I can't hammer it home enough, it won't be easy and there's absolutely no guarantees we'll even find what we want whatsoever." Fitzroy explained, a notable grit making an appearance in his half cockney, half space-Australian accent. "Moreover, if we do find what we're looking for, I can't guarantee we'll make it out alive. I know you two know the risks but as the captain, I personally want to address the danger of a mission like this. That being said, I'm gonna do my damnedest to get us to the objective and get us out alive." He finished, also somewhat excited at taking on such a dangerous mission in such a spur of the moment fashion. WC: 663 TWC: 4,519 |

Later that night, as Lola Montez packed to leave. Lola and Fitzroy are discussing as a flame burning torch illuminates the room, its warm shadows dancing across the walls. "So, what are you thinking about all of this? What with the sudden arrival of the bird man and all this talk of the triumvirate?" Questioned Fitzroy, leaning against the clay wall of Lola's adobe household. Lola let out a quick sigh before she replied, "He's determined, if nothing else. His interstellar reputation, well, it's no better than yours or mine to be honest. So, that's not really a factor. He's bad company, but so are we. I'm not entirely sold on why he sought me out, or even how he found me for that matter. He's just lucky I had heard of him, this could be a different story if he approached me out of the blue. His reasons are sound though, he's out for justice and redemption. You know how I feel about the triumvirate, I know they're up to no good. If I could take them alone, I'd gladly do them in myself." Lola explained, expounding on her feelings regarding Elemento and the Triumvirate as she packed clothes and light weaponry. "Fair enough. All that's well and good, I don't doubt his motives. He seems genuine enough in that respect, given what we've heard of his story and the fact that the triumvirates lapdogs so conveniently showed up as you two met. All of this being said, I'm still surprised you'd get involved. You think we stand a chance here, kid?" Fitzroy questioned, crossing his arms. "Not especially, but we're determined and have a goal to pursue. Me? They took my machine. I had plans for that machine and I intend on making that known to them. Bottom line? We get my machine back, we fuck up what we can of the Triumvirate, and we hope we make it out alive." Lola finished as she zipped up a large duffel. "Hm. After all these years, you're still a slippery one. Just when I think I have Lola Montez pinned down, she goes and does something new." Fitzroy remarked as he made his exit. WC: 364 TWC: 4,883 |

As Fitzroy and Lola Montez prepare to leave the next morning, Elemento falls into a deep sleep. His first natural sleep since his short stint on Maverick. All the while, he dreams about a long forgotten memory. The bird mans somnolent eyes drifted shut as he fell into a state of rest in a bunk on Fitzroys ship. His mind took him back to his childhood in the wild, untamed Boudin City. At a time where he was just a punk alien finding his way on planet Earth. Luckily, Earth was quite the melting pot of species' and races, especially Boudin City. Despite its poverty stricken foundation, it was a bit of a catch all as far as its populace was concerned. Elemento recalled ripples of heat, droning waves of crowd noise, and languages of all kinds spoken at street level. In reality, Boudin City wasn't all that great but in Elemento's mind, it looked pretty good. This wasn't the first time he had been drawn back to memories of his youth. It happened previously back on Maverick. He surmised that he had been so fixated on redeeming his past life, he often forgot about the past of the life he's lived thus far. Just like the last time he relived his past, he saw the evening glow of the sunset as it went down on Boudin City. He recalled how he used to sit atop an old abandoned wind turbine, watching the sun drift below the horizon. But this time was different. This time, he looked to his side and saw her. ~ Some memories stay hidden, almost forgotten, tucked away until they unfurl from the darkness of the mind to serve some kind of purpose. This was just the case for Elemento, as he had nearly forgotten an individual from his childhood. He couldn't remember her name, but he pictured her all the same. There she was. It was a girl about his age, slightly younger. She was rugged but carried a softness in her face and eyes, she was very pretty. Though their time together would be very short, neither of them would forget. At least, they didn't think they would. The fateful day that Elemento met this girl, a pirate vessel had docked in the city. Boudin City, being as loosely run as it was, wound up a haven for people like bandits and pirates. So naturally, a crew of space pirates visiting the city wasn't too out of the ordinary. Aside from the impeccable fighters Elemento admired, he found the pirates of the galaxy interesting too. Space faring warriors who nary obey the law? To a young punker like Elemento was at the time, they were the definition of forging ones own path at any cost. An ideology that Elemento could really get behind. This pirate crew was different though, for one reason and one reason only. They had a child for a member. Elemento didn't think it would be easy to engage with this crew of space pirates, no easier than it ever was anyway. During a visit to the city, most crews concerned themselves with only boarding or the bar. Most likely, the bar above all. When they arrived? They dared to be reckless, imbibe, and be merry. Day of the week be damned. That was the life of a land moored pirate, at least according to Elemento's limited knowledge at the time. However, what he didn't consider was that a crew harboring a child member wasn't very usual. As the docked Pirates finally finished disembarking from their vessel, an aged man knelt down next to the young crew mate. On bended knee, with one hand on her shoulder, he spoke with her. "Look kiddo, we're going into town for a drink. It's no place for kids, hun. I want you to stay behind." "But...why can't I come with? I'll be good, I promise. I always stay behind." The child said, naturally feeling left out. A feeling that was unfortunately common place for her at this point in her life. After all, she was born and raised on this vessel. "Now, Lola." The man sighed. "If I had a say in it, I'd take you everywhere with me, kid. I know you can handle yourself. But, the crew is much bigger than just me, and the places we go? It's true that they're no place for kids. It's nothing against you, swear. So, stay here, for me. Got it?" The middle aged pirate softly commanded, as he stood up to walk away from the young girl and catch up with the rest of the crew. WC: 282 TWC: 5,675 |

The young bird boy scuttled across the roofs, gingerly leaping from building to building so as to make as little noise as possible. He didn't want to draw any unnecessary attention to himself, well, that and he found it a lot more fun to try and be sneaky. Elemento was used to admiring the space pirate crews from afar but actively making his way to one of their docked vessels was new to him, he was excited. This crew peaked his interest more so than any other, as they had a child, someone like him in their midst. The more he thought about it, the more enthused he became to meet this young pirate. He could only imagine what incredible adventures she had been on, traversing the galaxy and hunting for treasure. After all, that's what Elemento thought they did, though he was only right in the broadest sense. Either way, he knew he would probably learn a thing or two in meeting this young buccaneer and well, that would wind up being an understatement. ~ The kid pirate was sat on the jetty near her crew's docked craft, kicking her dangling legs above calm water. She was in another world, day dreaming, attempting to pass the time as evening set in. It would still be another few hours before members of her crew returned from their night of merriment, and so she waited, ever so patiently. It was lonesome, having to stay behind all the time but she was sadly getting used to it. It kind of made sense to her, as not every crew had to carry the burden of a child. Admittedly though, that made her wonder why they bothered with her in the first place. When the solitary child happened to look up from the shimmering glow of the sun bouncing off the waters in front of her, something caught her eye, or someone anyway. Just across the way from her, atop a long abandoned building, she saw a small little creature peering down at her. She couldn't see his whole face, but she saw his hands and eyes, he was a stark white with piercing eyes. "Hey!" She shouted out. "I see you, y'know! You come down from there and show yourself!" The girl clearly wasn't the least bit scared of the small creature spying on her from afar. Elemento had been caught. She spotted him almost immediately and called him out, he was slightly embarrassed but in spite of this, he was still excited to meet the child. He kind of respected the fact that she clearly wasn't afraid of him at all. So he hopped down from the roof of the building and slowly started making his way toward her, keeping his excitement to meet the pirate in check. She watched as the creature revealed himself and began walking toward her. He was a bird boy of some kind. She had seen a lot of strange looking aliens in her day, but nothing quite like him. He was unique. WC: 506 TWC: 6,181 |

There they were, finally face to face. They seemed equally enthralled by one another, albeit for different reasons. He was quite enamored with her for her unusual lifestyle as a kid pirate, whereas she was enamored with him for his remarkably unusual appearance. After trading thousand yard stares at each other for a brief moment, the silence was finally broken. "So, what's your name?" the girl spoke up first, curious what a bird kid would be named. "Elemento." The avian creature hesitantly replied, somehow lacking confidence in an overtly obvious answer. Although it sort of made sense, given how little he knew about himself and his heritage. His identity was a continual ponderance, which for a child of his age was quite a shame. "What's your name?" He added, many moments after his initial response. "That's cool. My name is Lola." She stated, before curiosity finally got the better of her and she simply had to ask. "So, uh, what are you?" She persisted, agog at the thought of whatever his alien race could be called, as well as the fact that she had never seen anyone quite like him. "What am I?" He responded the same way she had asked him. He didn't know what to say, after all, he didn't really know just what he was. A lot of crazy looking people came through Boudin City, so his appearance was never really in question, but it had occurred to him before that he was unlike anyone he had ever seen come through. "...I...don't know." Elemento uttered, disappointed that he couldn't give Lola a straight answer. "Oh. Well, what planet are you from? Or, what do your parents say you are?" Lola lingered on the topic, unsure of why he wouldn't know what he was. Surely he wasn't from Earth, right? Although, who knows, the universe was filled with strange beings of all shapes and sizes. Some of which go undiscovered, unnoticed, unseen by the general public. Maybe Elemento was just that way. Elemento looked away from Lola and toward the setting sun before replying to her. "I'm from here. This is where I've always been, as far as I can remember. And parents, well, I don't really have any. None like me anyway." The bird kid explained. "Oh." Lola expressed, feeling a bit remorseful for asking in the first place. It was a feeling she couldn't quite describe, like guilt without doing anything wrong. That being said, she also felt something else, a commonality. She felt Elemento was a kindred spirit, as she too had no discernible parents of her own. It wasn't something she often acknowledged, as she did have people who cared for her. Members of the crew, of course. With that out of the way, Elemento was quick to change the subject. "You're a pirate, huh?" He questioned, finally getting to the point he wanted to all along. He glanced at Lola and then at the large pirate vessel to his left, his beady eyes equally amazed by both of the sights before him. WC: 506 TWC: 6,687 |

"Yup. Sure am! That's our ship." The kid pirate replied, putting her hands on her hips and puffing out her chest, trying to look tough. She also made note of Elemento's wandering eye, he couldn't seem to take his eyes off their ship. "Wanna see inside?" The girl asked, with just the slightest of enticing tones. She figured she could easily make up for asking him where he came from if she entertained his obvious interest in her crews vessel. Besides, the crew wouldn't be back for hours. Elemento's eyes grew wide at the prospect, he had never seen the inside of a ship before and he didn't expect to be able to go inside this one so easily. Naturally, he jumped at the chance. "Yeah!" the young bird boy shouted, darting toward what he assumed was the door to the ship. Lola followed suit. When the two finally reached the door after their sprint, they both quickly realized that they were too short to reach the keypad to unlock the door to the vessel. This wasn't enough to stop Lola of course, as she quickly gathered that their combined height would be more than enough for her to reach the pad and type the key code. "Quick. Give me a boost." Lola demanded. Elemento was happy to oblige, grabbing her by the ankles and lifting her up with ease. He was stronger than his size lead on. The kid pirate was surprised at how easily he managed to lift her up, but didn't question it much as she was entering the code into the keypad. Elemento put her down and watched as the door slid upward in front of them. There it was, the bridge of the vessel splayed out before him. He had never seen anything like it. The awestruck bird kid took his first steps inside, his mouth agape. "Here it is. Come on! I'll take you up to the deck!" The fiery young girl shouted, taking off down the bridge toward the other side of the vessel. Elemento was quick to run after her, whilst taking in as much of the ship as he could of course. There were so many controls and buttons spread out across the room, he couldn't imagine what they could've all been for. Blinking lights and whirring machines were practically inescapable, around every turn. It was unlike anything he'd ever seen. The duo finally ended up down a hallway on the other side of the ship from where they began. "Here! Climb up this ladder, turn that wheel at the top, then push!" Lola instructed, motioning Elemento up the metal ladder. As he climbed up, she admitted to herself that it was a lot of fun showing someone else the ship. It was where she had grown up and knew it like the back of her hand, so to see someone so new to it all was a joy. She couldn't remember why she hadn't done this before. The two eventually climbed out of the hole and onto the deck of ship, where they were back in the open air of the evening. They were up high and the view was impeccable. The pirate girl lead Elemento to the very edge of the deck, where they sat down, high up off the ground. "I bet you've been everywhere in the universe." Elemento enthused, crossing his legs as he stared up into the evening sky. He thought Lola was so lucky. He couldn't imagine living a life like hers, even though their lives really weren't all that different at the end of the day. She cracked a smile. Elemento really seemed to think she lived a charmed life out there among the stars. At least somebody thought that, because she didn't. "The universe is real big. I haven't been everywhere, but maybe someday." She explained, unsure that her life would ever be any different than what it was now. That being said, she couldn't see too far ahead either. "It's not all fun, y'know. It gets lonely sometimes." She continued. It wasn't every day that she felt like she could say something like that. It wasn't something she admitted to anyone, much less herself. But, in this circumstance, it made sense to finally address it for some reason. "Oh." Elemento said plainly. He knew what that was like, but wasn't quite sure how to go about talking about something like that, so he just told the truth. "It gets lonely here, too. Sometimes, I'll see grown ups and kids and it feels like I’m on my own.." Elemento explained, his own isolation stemming from his lack of family and heritage. Lola didn't know what to say and she wasn't sure how exactly to respond, but she appreciated the sentiment. She leaned to her left and laid her head on Elemento's shoulder. There they were, two very small creatures, staring into the vast void of space. While they both had their own cross to bear, at least for the time being, neither of them were lonesome. And just like that, it all ended as soon as it began. WC: 851 TWC: 7,538 |

Elemento awakens from his deep sleep aboard Fitzroy's ship. Deeply disoriented by his first natural sleep back on Earth, as well as the long forgotten childhood memory that just made itself known again after all these years. He finds himself back in the company of Lola and Fitzroy. The blurry shapes of two individuals slowly take shape as Elemento's vision returns to him, Lola Montez is next to him and Fitzroy is flipping switches as he moves back and forth between the hull and the cockpit. Fitzroy takes notice of the waking alien aboard his vessel and stops to welcome him back to the world of the living. "Ah! Nice of you to join us back 'ere on Earth, bird man! You've been out for hours and we're very nearly ready to leave, m'boy. I took the liberty of docking your ship to my own. Got yourself a nice vessel there, lad. Just a jimmy short of a warship! Very nearly too big to dock, but I managed! Lola 'ere has your things and all that. Thank us later." Fitzroy enthusiastically dumped the details of their morning on Elemento, his cockney really coming to the forefront in his fervor. "How did you find my shi-, forget it." Elemento began to question as he cracked his back, before bailing on the train of thought. He decided he didn't want to know how Fitzroy found his ship, or didn't care at least. He was too groggy to care right now. At this point, he was so used to falling asleep in a rejuvenation tank or in space, run of the mill sleep was starting to become a very confounding experience. "What's the agenda?" Elemento eventually added, after a few moments to get his bearings. "We head for Avalon. It'll take a few days. When we arrive, we wait till nightfall to land. We want to bring as little attention to ourselves as possible. We've got a general idea of where the Triumvirate intend to make their appearance, but both this vessel and your own are far too large to be used to take us directly where we need to go. Too conspicuous. We'll have to go on foot." Lola spoke up, pulling a ragged map from her lap and sliding it across the table to Elemento to show him where they'd be landing. He glanced at the map for only a moment before his gaze connected with Lola's own, he peered into her eyes, as though he was searching for something. There was no doubt though, this was the same individual he met all those years ago. That little pirate girl grew up to be a fantastically seasoned adventurer, with big opinions, and a problem with authority. How could he have forgotten her? How could she have slipped his mind? A memory lost to the sands of time. He clearly wasn't alone though, as she didn't seem to remember him either. WC: 488 TWC: 8,026 |

"We'll touch down here in the Cougon Plains, it'll be a long trek to the nearest city, but it'll be worth it for the low profile. We need to keep our noses clean and with any luck, we won't run into any trouble with the paladins." Lola communicated, hoping their excursion would go off without a hitch. She was in deep enough water as it was, the last thing she needed was yet another mark on her record. She was making at least some sort of small effort to wash her hands of her many, many past crimes. "Once we get to Avalon City..." she continued, tapping her finger against a distant spot on the map. "...we're gonna have to keep our ear to the ground if we wanna figure out exactly where the Triumvirate are gonna show up. From there, you take the lead, bird man. What have we signed up for?" Lola asked, realizing that they were kind of going into this blind. Sure, her goal was mainly to disrupt the Triumvirate and get her machine back in the process but since she was along for the ride, she might as well know the big picture too. Elemento's wide eyes blinked a couple times before he finally spoke up, "...We intercept them right before their appearance. It's not perfect but they'll be taken off guard. I don't think we'll get very far but if we can make a big enough mess, they'll be forced to retreat." "You're right. That's not perfect. That sounds almost suicidal. I hope you know what you're doing, bird man." Lola remarked, expressing a fair amount of doubt in Elemento's plan, or lack thereof. She hoped everything would turn out for the best. That's all she could hope right now. Just then, the starboard side of Fitzroys ship suddenly rumbled and quaked. They hadn't even left yet and were already taking fire, but from what? "Oh ho ho, we've got company ladies and gents. Looks like we're takin' off sooner than expected. Hold on, kids, this is not gonna be a smooth take off." Fitzroy warned, sliding into the cockpit and hammering the control column upward. The ship whirred and revved, struggling to get off the ground as quick as Fitzroy wanted. This vessel of his might have been able to take a beating, but it sure wasn't quick to start. A fault that could cost this makeshift crew dearly. As Fitzroy was flipping switches and pushing levers, trying to get his vessel off the ground to little avail, more shots came in. Each bolt pounding against the hull. "I'm gonna need some time, so while this baby is getting off the ground, I need you both in gunner seats, you hear? Let's see who we're dealing with. Bird man, they'll be on your side, so strap in and be ready my boy." Elemento slid into the nearby gunner seat, the seat was held in an orb like chamber, with the triggers up in front like a steering wheel. It almost looked like a video game of some kind, but this was painfully real. Especially when he got into the seat and saw who was firing at them. It was the very same ships he saw the day before when EMPIRE stole Lola's machine, piloted by the same soldiers they encountered before. It was the work of the Triumvirate once again. It seemed now instead of bounty hunters and scapegoats, they were keen on using mindless soldiers to do their bidding. Elemento didn't think twice before grabbing the triggers and firing mercilessly at the incoming ships. A few of his shots connected but the enemy ships stayed intact, soaring overhead. From there, Lola took over, blasting with much more precision. She even managed to take out a couple. "Alright. We're leaving this place in the dust, get ready you two. Stay vigilant. Something tells me these buggers aren't going to be leaving us alone anytime soon. We've gotta lose 'em before we break for space." Fitzroy announced, as the ship finally launched through the air and up toward the atmosphere. WC: 683 TWC: 8,709 |

A volley of yellow blasts quartered the air, either grazing or hitting Fitzroy's ship. There didn't seem to be much of a method to the EMPIRE soldiers madness, their fire continuously spraying the air as Fitzroy attempted to dodge and weave. In an act of desperation, he pulled a switch that threw up a force field around the ship, one that he traditionally avoided using as it depleted energy reserves in the process. A blue field of energy flickered on, shrouding the vessel from further fire, at least for now. That bought them some time. Now, with any luck, Elemento and Lola could pick off the stragglers and they'd be home free. "How we doin' back there, folks? It's all on you now, shoot 'em down and I'll get us outta here!" Fitzroy shouted, knowing good and well that he could only make so many maneuvers with a ship of this scale. Fitzroy's ship was a vessel many times the size of even a Saiyan warship, but that didn't make it invulnerable, in fact quite the opposite. Lola and Elemento stayed silent, wholly locked in their determined struggle against the EMPIRE soldiers. The EMPIRE soldiers were confident pilots, nimble, and equally aggressive. So confident, one even decided to send a net of missiles hurtling toward Fitzroy's ship. Elemento could only watch as they collided with the energy shield Fitzroy had thrown up, explosions flowering all around it. The bird man had to hunker down and shoot through the cloud of missile fire. He saw an opportunity as soon as his view began to clear, he took it, managing to shoot the right wing off of a ship. The EMPIRE ship abruptly swayed to it's right in a tailspin, eventually stabilizing, before finally leveling off. Now was his chance, with a well timed shot, Elemento could take this enemy ship out. He anxiously pulled the trigger in fury, firing multiple bolts of energy, each colliding with the EMPIRE ship. The last enemy ship was out of Elemento's line of sight, leaving it up to Lola Montez to shoot it down. Before she could even attempt a killing blow, the enemy somehow managed to fire through a crack in the field, landing a direct hit on Lola's turret. Part of her gun and the entirety of her reticle was destroyed, she'd have to aim by eye. Luckily, she was Lola Montez. She closed her left eye, blinked her right eye once, and held her breath. It was time to make her next shots count because she might not get many more if the enemy got another shot off on her. The enemy ship swayed into her view for a split second and that's all it took, that was enough. In that brief, serendipitous moment, it all fell in line. She pulled the trigger and three energy bolts shot through the cockpit of the opposition. It was over. That was the last of them. "...We're clear..." Lola said, letting out a deep breath along the way. "Well alright, kids! Swift shootin' back there! Let's wrap this up and jump our way off this god forsaken rock! Whattaya say!" Fitzroy exclaimed, thrilled that the crew made it out alive. He flipped a switch, threw the shields down, pulled up on the control column and swung his ship clear through the atmosphere. ~ Little did the makeshift crew know that just as they escaped the atmosphere of Earth, deep within Fitzroy's ship, a young boy came tumbling out of a large crate. An unlikely stowaway had found his way aboard the vessel and now, he was along for the ride. What could possibly await this crew next? WC: 611 TWC: 9,320 Edited by Elemento, Feb 19 2018, 03:41 PM.

Meanwhile, aboard his massive cone-like ship, the supposed leader of the Triumvirate stares ominously into the void of space. From the bridge of their vessel, the leader had a clear view of planet Avalon. Still in the distance, they were approaching and would arrive within a day. He imagined what they could accomplish in just a few days time. In his minds eye, brilliant, strobe-like flashes of explosive light shot through the Avalon skies. EMPIRE soldiers on the ground and in the air, seizing entire cities with ease. The Avalonian senate bending to his, their will. Yes, this excursion would prove much more successful than their endeavors on Damaskia did. He could feel it and no one would stand in their way. He felt he knew where they went wrong before, trying to manipulate people to get what they wanted. That kind of stratagem worked solely on the weak. Instead, he now understood that non-violent resistance would not succeed against an enemy freely able of violence. If the triumvirate wanted something, they had to take it. "Sir." an EMPIRE soldier came up behind the leader, his voice muffled by his red and black helmet. "EMPIRE Squadron 0000117 has been destroyed. No word of any surviving soldiers. They were shot down on planet Earth in pursuit of a large scale carrier vessel. Sir, the vessel has escaped." the armored soldier explained, reading the display on the inside of his helmet. "Find that vessel. Do whatever it takes to find it. I will not have my — our plans interfered with any further. And another thing, contact Mirror. Get him on Planet Avalon, immediately. Waste no time." the leader commanded, flinging the hood of his robe down in frustration before trudging off in a haste to meet with the other two members of the Triumvirate.
