Soul's opponent actually surprised the hybrid, for instead of attacking or even moving to attack the opening that he had left open for Benzo to do so; the lizard just sat back on his haunches and decided to watch the display with Soul between the Saiyan and his fellow demon.

Sun and Qualuud talked a bit, the fellow Saiyan essentially saying the same thing as he did, except with more tact. When negotiations failed, which Soul had a feeling they would, his companion decided to go with his strongest attack straight from the start.

Either very strong...

The impressive display that Sun put off was cool to watch, and Soul had to admit he missed using the Kamehameha technique himself, but his grin turned into a frown when his Sense alerted him to a change in his companion's energy.

With a subtle squint of his eyes, the Hybrid focused his Ki and actively condensed his Sense ability into his pupils, only to grunt in surprise. He hadn't needed to actively use his sense beyond the normal, sixth sense function since the first time he developed the ability on Grace, during his fight against the crazy ki-rooster man with Nara.

The benefit was that he could "see" Ki flow in the surrounding environment, and get a better reading on whoever he was looking at, but the side effect was that the "pressure" he felt become more defined...and only able to be sensed in front of him. If an opponent hit his blind spot, he'd be unable to tell.

Thankfully, however, his opponent was to his side, in his view, along with Sun and his opponent. With his ability in full swing, and his brow furrowed in concentration, he could see that Sun was much weaker than Soul had anticipated--and probably weaker than Sun thought himself to be.

It was clear he had been putting on a strong front--they both were, since both were injured guys, and didn't want to show weakness as a natural instinct; but to this extent...either Sun didn't know it, or was hiding it. Energy that Sun wasn't channeling was still bleeding off of him into the atmosphere, a waste, and the energy that he was channeling was fading fast.

His body clearly couldn't put up to the strain of this type, and naturally, Soul couldn't blame it. If he could use ki, he wasn't sure if he'd be in the same boat--and that was with him healing as fast as he did normally and have a mastery over ki.

The attack clearly landed, but something else drew Soul's attention right before it did--the aura, cold and dark as it was from Quall, was growing stronger...

Ka-boooooom

The detonation stirred up sand and dust for a quarter kilometer, but the Hybrid and Bento stood their ground, each watching and waiting to see the results. Both half-Saiyan's didn't like what they saw, but instead of the fear that his counterpart felt, Soul only felt grim assurance take root.

When they said fear was powering them...I didn't think they were serious. No matter then, the fear has to have a bleedoff rate via their power. Even if they could theoretically get as powerful as the situation demands, their body can only contain so much, so the rest will fade away...

The hybrid hypothesized while his friend got bit and lifted off of the ground, and by the time he had croaked out what Soul had already found out, he sighed. That one sound, one movement seemed to invoke a change in the Hybrid, and it first started with his eyes.

They lost the white shine that covered them--however slight it was from his sense ability, and the amber and blue eyes grew cold and resolute. It spread to his posture, his attitude, and eventually the aura that every living being emitted--not an aura of Ki, but as a subconscious thing, a thing that their energy felt like; grew cold and distant.

"We both asked you to leave, partially because we don't want to fight, but not because we--or at least me, are scared. We didn't want to shed blood, but know that you've forced my hand."

Slowly, his crossed arms disengaged themselves from each other and drifted down toward his sides, then slowly turned toward his back and opened, waiting to grab something that wasn't there. A shudder seemed to roll through the Hybrid's form, and with a silent schnick, two gray handles emerged, each facing perpendicular to the other; one to his right, the other to his left.

The speed that Soul moved was both a Glacier's pace and also extremely fast, but the way his actions felt, the distinction in each movement, the non-hesitation...it all added up to a warped effect of moving both quickly and slowly.

A slow burning feeling rose along the surface of Soul's arms, but he ignored it, and simply watched the expressions change on both Qualuud's and Bento's faces. Their happy-go-lucky, sadistic attitudes changed to a serious tone, and their eyes glinted when the Hybrid spoke once more.

This time, his voice had lost all inflection to what he was thinking, all emotion to what he was feeling; and became something akin to a robot's tone of voice.

"Let me ask, can Demon's feel fear?"

With that oddly echoing into the air, he vanished.

A silver glint flashed, and with the sound of something heavy hitting the ground, Soul appeared a distance away from Quall with something resembling a ball of hair in his arms. Soul bent his knees slightly and helped Sun stand, then turned back toward the coyote in time to see the Demon stare at the stump of his tail in shock--and for the first spurt of black blood to blossom forth from where the cut had been made.

The burning feeling along Soul's arms had abated, and he slightly staggered, the motion mostly hidden by the twin capes he wore. Another technique from his Universe used, this time on purpose, and the backlash had burnt him again.

"Sunchoke, you good?"

His voice once more echoed, but still it had the same robotic inflection. Soul had withdrawn into himself, so angry and full of rage that almost everything that wasn't related to the task at hand had shut down. They had harmed his friend, and instead of doing it sharp and swift, like it should have been, Qual had toyed with Sun, and tortured him on top of it.

They wanted to refute his offer on leaving? They had no one to blame except themselves when the beast came out, since basically his one and only friend, one and only person he had really confided anything in had been treated that way.

Ehheeeehehehehehee... Heh... Heh... The ruby reptile was all giggles intermingled with the sounds of a starved predator. There was insanity in his yellow eyes that Sunchoke could only attribute to dehydration.

I don't have the energy for a long battle. I'll have to make this quick, if I can help it.

Sunchoke glanced around for the rest of his search party. Their survival instincts had not quite won out against their curiosity. The running and screaming had stopped, but he could see many of them hiding behind dunes, camels, and even laying near corpses and wreckage in hopes of a better view. A little closer than the saiyan would have liked, but everyone seemed to have adequate cover. The Lion could blast the lizard demon safely, and that would be that. But, the pacifist had gotten his fill of violence from his too-recent encounter with the Grimm Brothers. Perhaps this could all be avoided. Doubtful, but worth a shot. Especially if these two turned out to be more than the injured half-saiyans had bargained for.

You can still leave. I will let you run. I have seen enough blood this week and would rather not add any more pain to this world if I can help it. Go in peace. No one will chase you or harm you. But, as my friend says, if you intend to continue in your ambition for terror, that is something I can not allow.

Yassss... You are afraid of us. Good, good. Come and make us stronger, human.

The half-healed warrior clicked his teeth at the insane persistence of his adversary. So be it. He was too tired for fear, and too tired to explain that to his next mark. All he could do was finish this as mercifully and quickly as he was able. He settled into the turtle hermit's trademark stance and charged the signature move.

Ka... Shining white ki charged around him, kicking up a small sandstorm in its wake.

Me... A small blue orb settled at the meeting of his hand's heels between his cupped palms.

Ha... Gradually the orb expanded until it filled his hands.

Me... Qualuud licked his non-existent lips as the man's power level spiked markedly.

Sunchoke pushed his hands forward and released the beam with a roar, Ha!

The blue-traced beam elicited screams from the spectators. Much to Sunchoke's surprise, his opponent didn't move. He stood confidently and took the beam head on; he didn't even raise a defense.

Very strong or very stupid.

Sunchoke waited anxiously for the sand and smoke to clear where his opponent had been standing. When a still-standing silhouette began to appear, the Lion was absolutely shocked. The horrible giggles and heavy breathing began anew and an excited rattle came from Qualuud's tail. Yes... Yes... They are afraid now... I feel it growing. It's delicious. Give us more! Gasps erupted from the spectators around him. Now Sunchoke was a little afraid. The demon had just taken his strongest attack with little more than a coat of dust to show for it.

Now Qualuud try... Yes. Red, skin-tight ki like plasma began to ooze from the scaly scourge, and he made his move with a speed Sunchoke almost missed.

There wasn't a word for "Shit." in the language of the kais, but Sunchoke experienced the feeling which inspired it then. His opponent appeared in front of him and the wild-haired warrior realized in their closeness just how tall the serpent-man was as an axe kick fell on his shoulder and landed him on one knee. Hot pain reminded him that he was in no shape for a proper fight. It ran from the spot between his traps and shoulders down into his ribs and side. Then the assailant did something that surprised him. Showing his teeth, he sunk them into the warriors neck. It seemed he purposefully avoided the Lion's jugular, but something tingly entered him at the scene of the bite. Shock and stun venom took over then, and he saw the rattle-tipped tail swooping around to slap him one good time across the face. The force twisted him around, and he caught himself on an extended arm and palm to the hot sand to his side.

He's fast. And strong. And somewhere in that madness there's some real combat sense- maybe even intelligence... How is he so strong? I... I don't think I can win this. Kais, why have you abandoned me so... First to those androids... Now to this abominable adder... The tail slithered down and took Sunchoke by the neck. Qualuud jerked him to make eye contact. Sunchoke's feet dangled a good six inches off the ground. The monster left just enough slack for a tease of oxygen to pass through his victim's throat. Yes... The fear is taking you. I feel your will fading... I will take it. We will rule this desert... Make slaves of these terrified humans...

As he spoke, the plasma around him grew harsher and darker. But it wasn't a power up, Sunchoke remarked to himself. This was something passive, something almost natural that grew with the lizard's excitement...

No... It's growing with my fear... And the fear of the people watching. That's what they keep going on about.
The more terror they spread, the stronger they become. My kamehameha scared our party, and he used that to take my attack...
Turning to Soul, he croaked out the best hint that he could.

S-soul... aha... Don't... be... afraid...

All eyes were on Soul as the displaced hybrid spoke his punishment for the demonic brothers. There was a sudden chill in the air as the blonde saiyan underwent what seemed to be a complete psychic change. It was as if his friend had stepped back and allowed someone else to take his place. When he saw Soul summon his daggers, he knew that this fight had gotten serious.

To Sunchoke's weakened senses his companion may as well have teleported. There were two thuds; first Qualuud's tail hit the ground and then Sunchoke's sore body. He could only nod in response to Soul's question as he gratefully gulped in all the air he could hold in his lungs. Accepting Soul's help, he found himself on his feet again. This time he was prepared. There was a pause as Qualuud realized his tail was missing, and a brief exchange before Soul went back to action. Sunchoke, free from the fog of suffocation and short-acting poison too a minute to steady his emotions as well. He knew he could win if he stopped feeding power to these evil ones. He began an old meditation, out loud but almost inaudibly,

I arise today, through the Twelve's strength to command me:
The Kai's might to uphold me, The Kai's wisdom to guide me,
The Kai's eyes to look before me, The Kai's ears to hear me,
The Kai's words to speak for me, The Kai's hands to guard me,
The Kai's way to lie before me, The Kai's shield to protect me,
The Kai's host to secure me:
against snares of devils, against temptations of vices,
against inclinations of nature, against everyone who
shall wish me ill, afar and anear, alone and in a crowd

Kais with me, Kais before me, Kais behind me, Kais in me,
Kais beneath me, Kais above me,
Kais on my right, Kais on my left,
Kais in breadth, Kais in length, Kais in height,
Kais in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Kais in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Kais in every eye that sees me,
Kais in every ear that hears me.

So be it.

The x-shaped scar on Sunchoke's chest glowed and a pure white sphere surrounded the Lion. He saw fear now in Qualuud's eyes. Not only fear, but regret and the thought to flee. Qualuud did not act on the thought: very stupid, or paralyzed by the realization that he and his brother were outmatched. The dark, stolen power licking the lizard skin became a weak flame. The red man's terror gave away his loss of power.

Waking up again, the red-scaled menace tried to reinvigorate his former confidence and play tough as Sunchoke had before. He leapt towards Sunchoke, much slower than he had moved before. As he touched the divine bubble protecting the mullet-haired protector he screamed out in pain and jumped back. Black burns covered his face and body. Sunchoke didn't move.

We tried to save you, he said as he stepped forward, slowly crossing the distance between himself and Qualuud. The lizard took a few trembling steps back, but Sunchoke stopped at two-arm's length from his foe.

Go in peace.

The lizard had a pre-preemptive celebration. The grateful smile of one who had narrowly avoided death crossed his mouth. But the farewell was not an invitation to go. The Lion closed his eyes and took a deep breath in. As he exhaled, he willed his aura to expand. It reached out to devour the fear-fed monster and a horrible screech rang out. The sphere had about a 3 meter-radius, and whatever happened to the lizard was kept from view. There was only a piercing screech of pain, a flash of light, and then Sunchoke, alone, standing in a hole dug out by the energy he'd just released.

In the wake of the cleansing Sunchoke fell to a knee. There was a burst of electricity as the light on his chest flickered out to reveal the scar was bleeding. Part of the wound had reopened. It wasn't a lethal amount of blood loss, but the pain that always followed the invocation of divine energy kicked up a little worse than usual. It was likely too soon to have tried such a thing after straining himself so harshly against the monster Kilborn. He'd be no further use to Soul, but the dagger-wielding warrior was far stronger than the peacekeeper. There was no doubt in his mind that Soul would overcome his opponent as well. Clutching his chest, he remained in genuflection to observe the rest of his brother's fight.

He didn't turn his gaze away from the two demons, instead using his Sense to determine his friend's state of health. His power had dropped drastically from what his normal was, but now that Soul had acted and helped him escape Qual's clutches, it was stabilizing, steadily rising to a level that he could consider "alright."

With that in mind, his eyes narrowed at Bento, who instead of his brother or friend, or fellow species comrade, Qual, Bento started to mass energy. That alone told him the difference in smarts and strengths between his opponent's, but instead of simply rushing forth to deal with them...he let them stew in their fear and resolve.

After all, since that's how Qual had started out on Sun, then the Hybrid would return the "favor" tenfold!

His ears perked when Sun began to mutter something behind him, and even with them only a few feet apart, it was almost impossible for him to hear any of it. His great hearing aside, Sun spoke it at an inaudible breath that was probably as loud as thinking was. Still, he caught a few fragmented words, and he frowned.

Even with the rage induced state he was in, which was bad enough that his vision was consumed by a tunnel of crimson bloodlust and basically the only thing he could hear was the thumping of his heartbeat in his ears...it actually pulled him out of it just a bit, and that was only a tiny bit of the mantra that he heard.

Whatever it was...

He shook his head and moved, feet propelling him with enough force that he vanished from where he stood and appeared next to Bento with a flicker of movement. The lizard like demon turned, eyes widening slightly, and lunged backward from two barely perceptible flashes of silver.

Red essence sprouted, and with a growl, Bento brought his bleeding arms forward and shoved at Soul, who to his surprise, was pushed back like he had been pushed with enough force to send him flying several dozen meters with the sound of breaking air. He grunted, shock lighting up in his eyes, but grit his teeth and vanished from the air to once more appear next to Bento.

Was that ki, or something else?

Their fists cracked against the other, surprisingly equal in power for the difference in strength between them, and the paradox that it represented caused a furrow to appear between Soul's brows. The red flame that was the aura of fear and Ki that the demon was growing both dimmer and smaller with every passing moment, but even with fear powering it, the Hybrid still felt as to something was off.

They both swung their remaining fist only to have the other crash against it, sending a shockwave that shook the ground while they struggled to gain ground over the other. They growled, muscles and energy straining for dominance, but for some reason...Soul wasn't winning the exchange. Bento's fear cloak grew dimmer, along with his energy and both were reflected on Soul's Sense, and he could both feel and watch Bento grow weaker and weaker with every second they struggled.

Except for one thing; he wasn't gaining any ground!

Drip...drip

Soul watched as blood trickled from the Lizard's nose and fell to the ground, evident strain and concentration on Bento's face, and the Hybrid grew even more puzzled. No matter how he looked at or thought about it, his opponent shouldn't be able to keep up with him, for the fear and energy were draining rapidly--yet, yet nothing was changing!

A bestial howl made itself known from the demon's throat as both Qual died and he struggled, and with a roar, shoved Soul back and disarmed him at the same time. Whatever the strange power was, it was enough to knock the Hybrid senseless for a few moments as well, and through muddled eyes he watched the Demon disengage from him and make his way to Sun.

He had moved several meters toward the Celesital-Hybrid when he extended his hand toward Soul's disarmed dagger, and with a beckoning motion, seemed to pull it through the air somehow to him. There was no flare of pressure, meaning that no Ki had been used, and Soul was dumbstruck.

"How is he doing that?

Sunchoke kept his knee as the battle unfolded. He had regained his calm but was still in a marked amount of pain. Each breath heaved over the next; there was no inhalation that felt satisfactory to his lungs. The wounded celestial hated to think of the bodily damaged he had compounded in his vain rush to find Korrin. Some relief came as he performed a quick body scan and realized that the damage was not as bad as he thought; the confusing, warm transition from numbness to agony was mostly a side effect of the passing poison. Likely he could keep fighting if he was careful about it, but the last thing to he needed to do was take unnecessary risks, or- he looked down at his hand clutching his chest which was now red with blood- attempt to use that power again. He waited, vigilantly observing his fellow hybrid's exchange with Benzo, for the soul-wrenching pain in his chest to subside.

Even without any sensing ability, the Lion could see that there was something off about the blue brother. His body was falling apart in the wake of Soul's attacks, and yet he fought on as though nothing was lost. The two were completely equal, which seemed logically impossible based upon Sunchoke's quick dispensing of Qualuud. This was not a product of fear, nor was it a symptom of spiritual mastery. The half-saiyan narrowed his eyes to focus his vision, hoping to catch some clue that could help the weary duo win.

With a roar the beast had disarmed Soul, and turned his attention to Qualuud's killer. Though he remained outwardly still, Sunchoke prepared himself for defense, ready to pounce in reaction to Benzo's move. The lizard raised a hand and one of the daggers shifted. Now Sunchoke knew what was happening, and he acted. He burst into flight, seemingly towards Benzo, but went on passed him to intercept the dagger. It fought his grip a moment, but surrendered at its summoners shock of having been found out. Re-cloaked in his spiritual shine, the Lion gave a grave glare to his opponent.

How dare you abuse the power of the gods in this base and unholy way.

Telekinesis. It was a skill that Sunchoke had only ever seen the Kais perform. It required the highest, purest intellect which understood reality for what it was: malleable illusion. It worked around the material constraints which bind simpler minds. Really the creature was bending time, space, light and mass to his own will. With such a power one could bridge gaps as meaningless as physical strength.

He seized the moment of dumbfounded peace to dash to Soul's side and return the warrior's daggers. As Benzo began another charge, Sunchoke laid hands on his friend. A halo of pure energy emanated from Soul's body, and rogue's hands and feet bristled with energy. I cannot go on, but take this energy. His mind tricks will not affect the ki of the gods. He can bend reality, but this power creates reality. Use it to end this.

In the last breath he turned into a back sidekick which demonstrated his point. The foot landed squarely in Benzo's collarbone. The attacker may as well have hit a brick wall. Collapsing with a shriek, he obviously still could not believe his plan had been thwarted. But he was not beaten yet. Unsuccessful with his bare-chested prey, he launched another assault upon Soul.

By the time Soul shook off the daze that the demon had caused, Sun had intercepted the dagger, temporarily fought off the lizard, and had returned it back to the Hybrid's hand. On top of it, a steady, calm flow of energy entered the half-Saiyan's body and into his Ki-channels, and even with the channels screwed up and broken as they were; almost half actually managed to replenish the Hybrid's reserves and give him a power boost.

The rest...bled off, dissipating through the broken channels and pours before vanishing into nothingness. His skin hissed, his muscles contorted, and his bones groaned under the strain...and Soul was glad his face was facing the opposite direction as Sun turned around and kicked Bento. For that brief moment, he let the pain show on his face, and because of it, was easier to control after giving it a moment to reign before reeling it back in under the surface.

The cloak and the fact that they were in a fight helped doubly as well, but before anything else can happen, he reached into his cloak and undid the clasp located at his hip and pulled out what was located in it.

A simple, unadorned--if not strange, blade glinted in the desert light; for the blade was basically a spearhead with a handle located on the middle of it.

If either Sun or the lizard knew about what this type of weapon was, it technically had origins as a "ninja" or "stealth" type weapon due to its nature to be thrown quite well; along with the fact that it could function as a simple assassination weapon. Sharp, heavy enough to hit with force, and if trained in the use of it right...quite deadly.

This kunai, Soul knew, wasn't as simple or nearly as deadly as it looked, and the demon that was his opponent didn't think it was a problem.

Yet another mistake added to Bento's ever-growing list, and the Hybrid simply hefted the kunai, feeling it's weight and also priming it, the movement a font for the subtle intricacies of what he was doing.

The metal warmed in his hand, the only sign that Ki was being channeled into it, and it was also the moment that Bento stopped and then reversed his backward momentum; the Demon now charging toward the duo with bloodlust and rage.

The blade grew from warm to hot, and then scalding, and still Soul channeled every ounce of his Ki that he could into the blade. It pulsed and shivered, a sign that it had taken all that it could, and the Hybrid twirled it once in his hand before cocking his arm back with the intent to throw it.

The Demon closed in, swinging a punch while he did so, and was close enough that Soul could see the individual drops of blood that was trickling out of the man's nose due to whatever technique he was using to stay as strong as he was.

The kunai glowed then, flashing with light so bright that it clearly defined the runic scripture that appeared across it's surface, and vanished from Soul's hand. It crossed the distance between them in an instant, and appeared with the intent to brain the Demon and end the battle before sun and Bento knew what happened.

Bento's eyes widened, his telekinesis surging with all of the might he had, and his mental power and Soul's weapon clashed for both the briefest of moments and lasted an eternity. Bento strained, his eyes growing bloodshot as the trickle from his nose turned in a steady stream; before that too advanced a stage into gushing redness everywhere.

Still, it wasn't enough to combat the amount of Ki-induced speed, strength, and most of all, force that it possessed. Maybe if Bento had saved his TK for only this, or if he had been more powerful in it and in his body, or maybe...

The Kunai veered off path slightly, it's forced transition causing it to collide with the lizard's chest with an air-shattering boom and an earth shuddering vibration; completely stopping the lizard's TK attack and defense and negating every ounce of forward momentum the demon had. He staggered, eyes widening in shock, only to have his head rocked to the side from Soul's leg.

It had come up and over, knocking the Demon to his left and inflicting yet another devastating explosion of force. Bento's body lanced through the air and then collided into the ground, only to cause a large furrow for the better part of a kilometer before he finally stopped moving.

Soul vanished and appeared above the Demonic Lizard, who was barely conscious and attempting to move himself upright; fear and desperation in his eyes and voice.

"Wait wait! I concede, let me live! You're the stronger one, I was wrong!"

Soul simply stared at him, eyes hardening once again, and shook his hands once more while the demon spoke. The daggers appeared from his sleeves, and with a gut-wrenching yank, he grabbed Bento by the throat and brought the dagger down. Blood sprayed, Bento's eye's widening, and he screamed.

The Hybrid calmly looked at the demon only a handbreadth away, amber and blue eyes clashing with Bento's panicked brown ones, and spoke. While his voice was calm, and he looked at the demon calmly, the words that came out of his mouth would have caused most to look at him in shock.

"Come now, you should save your breath for the ones that will hurt more. First, I'll start with your arms, then I'll move to your legs. Then come the fingers, and then your intestines!"

He was once more in the bloodlust and rage induced state that he had been first put in when Sun had been tortured, and now he planned to torture the Demon before him with no qualms against what he was about to do. The fact that Sun, or anyone else could be looking faded from his mind, and he grinned; his smile wolfish and demonic.

The next several dozen seconds dissolved into blood curdling wails, the crack of broken bone, the meaty tear of muscles and flesh ripping...and then silence. The silence was shattered every second with a flash of silver, and then an accompanying thunk as it found it's mark, over, and over.

Soul's eyes had glazed over, intent on desecrating the body, on destroying the very existence of the accomplice that had injured Sun, only for him to start when something touched his shoulder. With a snap, reality popped into place, and his mind returning from the cold and dark place that it had been...

Before him lay Bento who he was sitting on, or what was left of Bento, and the only thing that told him it was his enemy was the fact that his enemy was missing...and that the mangled corpse, if it could be called that, had several scales littered over several feet around them. Blood soaked sand covered everything in several meters, along with what looked like fleshy bits of--

-He looked away, rising up and stepping away, fighting off the urge to retch and looked at Sun with a sickly grin.

"Thanks, I needed that."

Regret dug its hooks into Sunchoke's heart as he watched how Soul utilized the celestial's energy. For a brief moment after the ki transfusion, he actually thought it was too late. Soul had paused in his downed position, but only for an instant. Then a flash of silver, and a sound much like the thunderous rip that had spit Sunchoke from Heaven to Earth. Finally the blindsided hybrid caught back up in a sudden pause wherein Benzo begged for his life. That insanity he'd noticed in his friend seemed to return as he vocalized his bloodthirsty intentions, before following through on them to the bitter letter.

The Lion couldn't see Soul or Benzo in the blur of blood that followed. Nothing but a bloody stump was left, but Soul continued his vengeful macabre. Their encounter with the Grimm Brothers had taught Sunchoke that such violent displays were usually inspired by damage to a beings soul. Sadness for Benzo and Soul closed his eyes and turned him to another prayer, once again infusing himself with diving energy. Approaching carefully, he placed a warm, healing hand on his companion's shoulder. Soul looked like a man who had been woke suddenly from deep rest. Briefly the color left the rogue's cheeks and Sunchoke could have sworn there was surprise, as if Soul had no recollection of what had just transpired, before the eyes he recognized returned and gave the Lion a weak smile.

Sunchoke said nothing, but offered his hand to help the hybrid up. It went ignored. Het let Soul be and went over to the merchant who had hired them. He and his people were sweating and shaking, not because of the desert sun, but in fear of what they had just seen. Sunchoke extended his hand for the promised visas.

Satisfied?
