KING OF THE RING
Monitors
With them both on the surface, Rubic was able to re-engage, firing his weaponry with savage force, his subsidary systems balancing the power demands his weaponry and thrusters required while cutting energy requirements from less-desired sub-routines. Bombman was once again put on the defensive, especially while trying to keep the Dragon Ball from falling from his possession and trying to find an opening to retaliate effectively. However, with Rubic in the air, Bombman was forced to have to contend with the various cave-ins he had caused—and judging by the way Bombman was running about, it appeared he had no flight systems to speak of. Rather than fire upon the opposition, Rubic opened fire against the ground all around Bombman's position, accelerating the collapse further, trapping Bombman in a wave of rock.

With Bombman immobilized, it was a simple matter of filling the opposition with holes from his gattling-arm, using the remainder of the EMP rounds to shut Bombman down and prevent further resistance. Eventually, getting the rubble and boulders off of Bombman revealed the Dragonball he had been carrying, safe from harm, thankfully, making the count to three. So far, there were no enemy signatures on Rubic’s radar, but that could mean anything—either they were regrouping with the destruction of the three other robots, or they could be preoccupied with securing their own Dragon balls. For now, with the three Rubic had collected in storage, he would have to pursue the other four with relentlessness, as per usual.

The droid referenced the radar once again with one hand while the other went to the task of rendering Bombman nigh-on unsalvageable with a single blast. So far, none of the others had been gathered in one place, the lot of them spread throughout the Earth for now… but time was running out. Eventually, the others would get their hands on the orbs of power and cause problems on Earth. Already, the damage done to the surface of the planet had been extensive, and it was only a matter of time before that same damage would be seen by the populace—if not felt directly.

With that, Rubic took off into the air once again, following the trail towards the next closest target. Speed was reduced once again, preferring to keep his combat and defenses powered in the event of any other surprise attacks—even though Rubic did not detect any hostiles nearby. That is, until Rubic went back to listening in on the communications going on across the planet, and news of the quarry had already reached the mainstream media with the Saiyans just one step ahead. Apparently, they were tracking Rubic’s movements in some way, but for now, Rubic could not spare the computational cycles to figure out how exactly—he needed to stay focused on his current mission. He still needed to stay ahead of any pursuit forces from the Saiyans, Earth, or anyone else.

Soon enough, Rubic closed in on the next location, Mount Frypan. The mountain was known for its inferno as a volcano—and indeed, occasionally, the heat would rise to such temperatures to light the very rock and trees around it alight, threatening the nearby villages with its embers. For now, however, it seemed more-or-less passive, allowing Rubic to get closer than usual towards the mountain in order to search for the Dragon Ball. And indeed, overlooking the caldera of the volcano, the android was able to see the Dragon Ball, nestled in the side-wall of the volcano’s interior—and a robot reaching towards the Dragon Ball. This unit was heavily-armored as well, utilizing the heat in the air to power its systems, as if it were purpose-built for hot temperatures. As soon as the opposing android acquired the Dragon Ball, Rubic opened fire, Mega Buster shots barely missing their mark as the enemy droid managed to leap clear of the lava below, landing on the precipice of the caldera.

The enemy responded in kind, a blast of molten magma shooting out from its free hand, forcing Rubic to bank to the side, the heat from the blast defying reason—it melted the very edges of Rubic’s armor, rounding the corners with an uneven line. Already, this one’s power was higher than the others Rubic had encountered, making this one higher on the threat window. He would have to deal with this one quickly.

Rubic opened up with his last salvo of missiles from his back, the screeching devices soaring through the air towards the target, but once again, the enemy android opened up with another blast of lava, igniting the missiles in mid-flight and destroying them handily.

ANALYSIS COMPLETE.
SYSTEM DESIGNATION: FIREMAN

While Fireman was distracted, Rubic retaliated with a blast from his Mega Buster, the energy beam cutting into the edge of the mountain, missing the target due to its speed and agility. Indeed, it appeared its plating and capabilities were designed to help it survive the heat, rather than provide any true defenses against attackers. It was certainly agile enough to avoid incoming attacks, forcing Rubic to try and close the distance, despite the danger. Neutralizing the offensive capabilities would be a priority.

As the metal titan closed the gap between them, Rubic dodged another blast of magma, rolling to the right, towards the arm that was holding the Dragon Ball. This gave him a favorable dodge vector, since the enemy was using his right arm to attack, giving Rubic that edge to avoid the incoming danger. With the distance closed, Rubic lashed out with his metal fist, clashing against the metal armor of Fireman. The momentum was enough to knock Orion’s minion off the side of the cliff down the exterior slope, barely holding on to his prize as he tumbled down the mountainside. Rubic gave chase, firing off blasts from his Mega Buster where it would yield the greatest results, but once again, the enemy’s agility was something to be admired, if Rubic was ever capable of feeling such a thing. Ducking, weaving, and changing the direction of his roll, Fireman was able to evade most of the attacks, even managing a retaliation that caused Rubic to break off pursuit for the moment—enough for Fireman to regain his balance and footing at the bottom of Mount Frypan. With the ambient temperature much lower here compared to above, Rubic could push his systems harder than before, but so too could Fireman do the same with his own systems. However, what Fireman likely lacked was his ideal power source—the heat of the volcano was amplifying his attacks, but without it, he was forced to spend additional energy to achieve the same power as before. Rubic switched to a more power-conservative method, withdrawing his Mega Buster in order to fully engage in melee, lashing out with blow after blow against Fireman’s thick hide. Once again, it appeared this was not Fireman’s forte, easy being pushed to the defensive while carrying his mission’s objective.

Finally, Fireman dropped the Dragon Ball, preferring to focus on the fight at hand. With both arms freed, the enemy droid opened up with both nozzles, twin blasts of lava threatening to envelop Rubic, but the taller Droid was able to avoid the blasts by a razor’s margin. With the attack resolved, Rubic turned hard on his foot, pushing his flight systems hard in order to close the distance once again. One arm bent to bear the brunt of the tackle, while the Mega Buster charged to full capacity, preparing for a point-blank attack once the distance closed.

Fireman tried to defend himself, crossing his arms in front of his body at the time of the impact, the Mega Buster pressing against Fireman’s abdomen before firing its payload with full power, the beam of energy exploding out the android’s back and vaporizing the majority of the internal systems within. Wasting no time, Rubic brought his opposite arm up, breaking Fireman’s guard and causing the enemy’s arms outward—to prevent any last-ditch retaliation—before reaching up and snatching Fireman’s head-unit in grasp. With one pull, while Rubic’s body pushed against Fireman, the enemy’s head came clean off of the unit, sealing Fireman’s untimely defeat. Circuitry and wiring sparked and sputtered amongst Fireman’s remains, energy draining from his systems until they were cold and silent.

Rubic stood for long moments watching the metal carcass, ensuring there was no secondary explosion with such violent chemicals in Fireman’s body, but thankfully, there was no resulting explosion from this one’s death. With this next victory, Rubic destroyed the remains with his Mega Buster, sending bits of metal and wiring in all directions from the destructive blast, rendering Fireman unsalvageable, the same as the other three. With the latest task done, Rubic moved towards the Dragon Ball upon the ground and picked it up, storing it with the other three. Four down—three more to secure from Orion’s robot minions. Once again, Rubic was left to ponder these units and their general inefficiency—not to mention how wildly different each one seemed to be. There was efficiency in design and constructing for making most units the same as the others, but so far, these units all seemed unique, as if purpose-built for this mission… characterized in a way, making them easy to identify and counter.

Why pursue such inefficient ways of design? So far, Rubic still had no answers for the many questions that were coming up, but for now, those questions would have to wait—there were still three other androids on Earth that would need to be dealt with before they could cause havoc on the environment or the populace. The radar, once again, provided invaluable information on locating the orbs of mystical power, allowing Rubic to plot another course towards the next objective and take flight towards it. Thus far, Rubic’s damage had been minimal but… if things continued in this fashion, he was not sure how long he could keep up the attrition.

The computations did not lie. His systems were advanced beyond anything this galaxy had seen—yet, a necessary addition, given the oddities of time-travel and the technology Pan had brought with her, technology that saved Rubic’s life. Amongst the additions were the sophisticated armor plating that covered his systems and exoskeleton—plating that had thus far turned every attack and blade, preventing any damage to his systems. Even so… the nature of the enemy Rubic was moving to face, again and again, was still largely unknown. The inefficiencies inherent in each of the frames so far gave Rubic the tactical edge in terms of technology and economy of moment, but even so, this presented unknown variables that Rubic could not detect or calculate—behaviors or features that were impossible to anticipate and counter. In such situations, it could mean the difference between victory and defeat.

But defeat was not an option, not while Unit Orion was still seeking power or worse.
