The outward flux of power visibly bent the space around the cavern and shook the walls. That shook the witch. Her eyes enlarged and her body shivered. The witch’s eyes went from the red haired child toward the powered young male constantly before she finally cracked with a shrieking scream of fear and anxiety. Along with those emotions came sadness and anger, “Everyone is out to get me! Everyone!”

That line triggered a new mutability of power from the witch bursting her power from the measily 800 that it was to a staggering 45,000. It did not match Soul’s pressure, but that increase gave her just the power she needed… to toss herself into the black bowl of boiling liquid and create something sinister with her own sacrifice. The cauldron bubbled and popped while turning into a heat red. The power within the cauldron began to unfold over and over until it finally hit a ceiling point and at that moment a large explosion destroyed the entire mountainside, leaving a large mushroom cloud in its wake.

When the cloud had cleared there were four figures floating in the sky. The each held humanoid forms but their presence reeked with demonology. The attire was quite business casual, which was odd in many cases. They were not savage demons, but demons of a higher order. Grasping their power levels was almost impossible as their power wavelengths were on a strange level.

“Contract accepted. Damien, make sure that witch gets a good seat to watch the humans of this world bend.” The short dark haired one spoke towards the red haired one whom looked quite more demonic than the foursome.

“I gotcha Orion. So, what are we going to do, Ellen?” Damien looked over toward the only female of their group. She was staring off into the distance.

“There is an infection spreading in the town 700 meters from here. We could play necromancer. Think that is a good idea Richard?” Her eyes moved over to the last person in the group. He had already looked mostly dead around his eyes. He grinned a bit at the usage of necromancy though.

“Sounds like… my type of party.” All four of them teleported away, with a loud bass bump being heard as they jumped from that spot to the coastal city of Veltin.

Soul's declaration of a stand down went the worse way possible when both the witch and her demonic partner simultaneously erupted with power and spoke as they launched themselves into a flurry of movement. The witch went postal, exclaiming that everyone was out to get her before her power--while strong in comparison to most of the human race, but weak to even Barkley--multiplied by at least twenty-five times.

The Hybrid was sure that her power was more than the multiplicative he could pick up on, but his sense wasn't even close to being complete, let alone refined for him to make a roundabouts or exact guess.

Her demon friend drug his attention away from the witch as he too shouted some nonsense about Soul tricking him and bringing a child into play while mentioning his lost origins; then joined his companion in powering up to resist the pressure that the Hybrid was giving off.

The whole part about finally figuring out what his origins was resonated with Soul and lost memory fragments, but not enough for the half-Saiyan to stand down. The Demon spun, his intentions not to attack Soul or Barkley but instead go for the book that the witch dropped in her panic---the witch?!

Soul's attention spun to his other opponent, but only in time to see her take three strides and fall into the bubbling black fluid that was in her cauldron. Suicide--No! A sacrifice?

His assumption proved correct--or partially correct--when the liquid transformed from black to a crimson and began to release a lot of power that quickly grew to dangerous levels. Soul glanced back at Barkley, knowing she wasn't fast enough or tough enough to defend herself; and he wouldn't be able to grab her and run without receiving some of the detonation to the back.

He wasn't about to leave her to die after dragging her into it either!

Soul closed his eyes for a brief moment, Sense concentrated on the cauldron that was now a time-bomb; trying to measure how much time was left for him to act and also concentrate on putting his first action into play.

I have seconds at most!

He brought his arms up before clapping them in front of his chest with a loud crack, concentrating on moving the aura that surrounded his body into his palms before pulling his hands away slowly. A silver orb the size of a beachball appeared, but winked out of existence when Soul brought his forehead forward and tapped it; the action bringing forth a bright burst of light from his body and the sound of a hammer striking an anvil in the cave.

His streetclothing was replaced with what battle armor he had intermixed with a Gui, a sword strapped over his left shoulder which he then reached for and grabbed while his other hand reached into the pouch that had appeared with the rest of his new appearance.

The Hybrid burst into motion, drawing the sword with his left hand while his right withdrew from the pouch in the midst of his spin toward the young girl. In his right palm laid what looked like a simple Gem, but he pulsed his Ki into it and then brought it forward to bump it against Barkley's chest with a bit of unintended force from his movement.

His hand withdrew, empty this time and leaving the Gem floating in place in front of Barkley before the rest of his momentum brought him full circle to face the cauldron again. He noted that even in the burst of rapid movement the liquid had boiled over and nearly quadrupled in size, the red now a bright crimson; and brought his sword forward before bracing it with his now-free right hand in the middle of the blade.

The Gem floating in front of Barkley shuddered once before forming a dome of hyper-dense Ki around the girl, and the half-saiyan's line of thought stumbled from the Ki drain.

World Gem; Mode, Barrier!

Soul's mouth blurred as he chanted something underneath of his breath, expression serious under the pressure of the situation and the fact that Barkley's life now lay in his hands; and right before the cauldron blossomed outward and detonated he pushed with his sword and shouted the last of his chant, "~~~Transmute~Energy!"

BA~BOOOOOOM!

A complex, runic scripture appeared out of thin air from Soul before bending in on itself and forming a circle; the runes making several triangles and circles within the outer circle.

Posted Image

The wave of heat and sound smashed against the transmutation circle and nearly blew the Hybrid off of his feet, but he growled and poured more of his concentration and Ki into it, swearing to himself that he wouldn't fail.

He couldn't fail, not again!

The varying forces of heat, air pressure, sound, and several others battered the circle time and time again over the course of what seemed like an eternity but lasted only a breadth of a second in reality. It held until the last possible moment and broke, the remainder of the explosion picking Soul off of his feet like a leaf in a hurricane and propelled him backward to crash against the spherical shield he had set up around Barkley with bone-breaking force.

With the crisis averted, the shield faded from existence around the girl and dropped Soul to his feet, but he sagged upon hitting the ground and barely caught himself by digging his sword into it. His vision swam from both pain and extreme Ki usage withdrawal, his reserves suddenly finding themselves halved in an instant and now his body took notice.

Posted Image

His swimming vision tunneled, threatening a blackout, but he fought it off by sheer will and contented himself to brace his body against the sword before turning to check on Barkley; his mouth opening to ask, "Hey, you okay kid--~?"

His consciousness winked out in the middle of his sentence and he collapsed the final few feet to the ground like a sack of potatoes, unconscious. His body was burnt and bruised, but the cause of his exhaustion and knock out was extreme Ki withdrawal. It wasn't like he had used all of it, just over half and near three quarters, but to use so much in a short amount of time prompted his body to shut down to prevent what it considered further self-harm.

The book? The book was gone, probably. One second he was plotting an attempt to grab for it, the next he was witnessing a witch plunge herself into a foot and a half of gurgling fluid. It was gruesome, but somehow it consumed her entire body. She made herself the sacrifice, and Elijah realized that she had nothing to offer him, she was purely in this out of rage. She was going to fuck over the humans at any cost. He was fine with that, in all truth, but what wasn’t ok was that he was in the line of fire as well. And no matter how concerned he was with his fairly new acquaintances circumstances, they were the closest things he had to friends.

It didn’t matter though, whatever he thought he was going to do, it wouldn’t work. The cauldron’s contents were rising and expanding at an appalling rate. The air was burning and it was about to blow. It didn’t matter though, because the beast from the woods was about to show Elijah a thing or two about real power. As the air circulated with explosive fumes and intense heat, this blond man was casting something incredible. Flashes of light and astonishingly thunderous sounds drowned out the cave and all of its contents, it was nearly blinding.

Elijah realized his only chance of survival was to get the hell out of dodge. That cauldron was going to end his life. Everytime he approached a potentially deadly situation before it has cause Elijah to pause and consider. It was the easiest way to hell for the young demon. Not this time, though. He appreciated his body too much. He leapt from his feet and dove behind blondie, a few paces from Bark.

At that point, there was nothing left to do but to brace from impact. He clenched his teeth and closed his eyes as his forearms guarded his face. He wedged his back foot against the wall for leverage and prayed, not to god, not to satan, but to this strange being that had somehow changed over the course of a couple days from a nearly retarded beast, to some kind of exceptional warrior.

Everything ended as swiftly as it started. The human turned his attention to Barkley, looking as if he were on his last legs before he collapsed unconscious to the ground.

Above, for new individuals had risen from the leftovers of the cave around them. They looked human, but Eli knew what they were. It was almost like some kind of sick de ja vu. Those were demons. The blonde chick actually fucking did it. 3 men and a woman, all tall and slender and dressed for business. That part Eli didn’t remember about hell, but it was a large place. He hadn’t seen most of it. They also seemed to give substantially less than a shit about the fact that He and the other two had survived as they quickly diverted their attention to something in the distance and sped off.

“I think we might have… I might have messed up, kid. I didn't really know what she had in mind. Fuck.”

<p>Barkley could not keep up with everything going on and it showed just how much of a child she was in her reaction. Barkley couldn’t sense energy, but of course she could sense change just by what she saw and how the air felt. The air had become thicker around Soul and the way he spoke and the way he acted had shown his experience which outweighed her own experiences by millions of times. She was frozen in place by fear and anticipation. A barrier appeared around her and she fell backwards within the sphere of protection, but all the while she was staring at what was unfolding. It was easy for her to be lost at all of the commotion and the way the cavern was collapsing.

<p>Rocks crashed into the barrier but that shield would not falter,<b> What’s going on?</b> She was considerably confused. Barkley’s eyesight moved over to Elijah. She had met him briefly, but she fear for his life. She fear for Soul’s life as well, and seeing that he was playing hero she was also in awe at his movement. Her eyes shut closed as the lights and the upheaval increased to considerable levels and all she could feel was the vibration of the explosion that destroyed everything around them. When she opened her eyes, chunks of mountain littered the forest and when she looked back to the town, there were craters about the place.

<p><bt>Did any survive!?</bt> Barkley spun her attention over to where Soul and Elijah would be. Soul was hardly hanging on to consciousness and asked her a question before passing out.<b> Soul! Hold on!</b> She almost feared him dead as she scrambled over to him on all fours and looked at his body. He was not in the best of shape, but it wasn’t death.

<p>It must have been exhaustion. She looked up to Elijah and heard as he defended himself. She only sighed in relief.<b> Who cares what happened at the beginning, let’s just…. Come on, help me with Soul. We need to get him somewhere so he can recover.</b>

<p>Either Barkley didn’t care about the summoning of those 4, or she was just more worried about Soul’s condition, either way she wanted to take him to the nearest put together town and with a tug she already could see he was too heavy for her scrawny arms.

<p>Off in Veltin

<p>The four demons landed on the ground and could see the city was heavily quarantined. It was the perfect spot for what they wanted to do.<n> “Okay Richard, do your thing. Smells like a lot of death around here.”</n>

<p>Richard rose his hand and violently the dead started to rise from their eternal sleep. Each person that had risen were diagnosed with a virus that was killing them all off. Who set the virus free? No one truly knows who did, but that didn’t matter to these four. Their goal was to kill and add to the undead count and that is what they did. While three murdered throughout the town, one rose them. They were going to create an army and desolate the Earth with their undead army.

Elijah’s initial reaction of guilt was blown off by his young companion. She handled herself well in the face of adversity and danger, most girls he’d witnessed her age would cry if they fell of one of those stupid two wheel locomotives humans rode around. Bark was clearly different, as a blast like that would have registered as an Earthquake and it was right in front of her.

Her concern was immediately shifted to the humanoid from the forest. Soul, she called him. And she was right, this wasn’t a place for them now. The demons had gone to cause the chaos that was due to their blood sacrifice. He bent over Soul’s body and could feel a heartbeat in the air, the blast wasn’t enough to kill someone with his power. “Of course, let me.” He leaned over and lifted Soul’s limp slender body and held it tight to his chest before kicking off.

In the air he had to glance below at the absolute destruction that the witch had caused, that he could have stopped. The mountain had been thrown in all directions with trees leveled by large boulders in a hundred yard radius. The cave was less of a cave and more of a clearing now. He thought of the other craters he’d seen in his time wandering and wondered what kind of great battles must have taken place here on Earth.

He turned find Barkley and yelled to her, “Where do we take him? I don’t actually… know anyone.” And it was true. His first instinct would have been to go to his most recent location, the witches village, and just ask if they had a healer. Under these circumstances, however, returning to a place that was looking for someone to blame for their death and destruction seemed like a bad idea. Especially when you come from the location of a nearby mountain spontaneously exploding.

<p>With Elijah carrying Soul and making it easier for the scrawny girl, she was able to float easier and alongside them and the worry on her face was starting to fade a bit. It was one thing to hear about murder and death and it was another thing to witness death of someone she didn’t know. Soul, however, was someone she had a conversation with just moments ago. To think that it only took moments to end a life and erase something so intricate put a different perspective in her mind. <bt>My father has done this before. I can’t see how he can end life without much worry… or does he worry?</bt>

<p>She shook her head as Elijah called out to her and her pale blue eyes looked his way. He didn’t know where to go next. Truthfully, she didn’t either until she realized she had a phone. Barkley pulled the device out of her pocket and she slowed her flight to keep control of the device as she opened the GPS. <b>Huh, there is a place that has a big hospital sign on it. It says…The Farm! Let’s go there!</b>

<p>She put her phone back into her pocket and with a bit more confidence she increased her velocity in order to take lead to The Farm. When she was close the phone buzzed frantically to alert her, which was a feature her dad added. Flight made it hard to hear to be honest, which is also why Elijah yelled instead of talk normally. After feeling the vibrations, she immediately slowed down and dropped down and there was a picture of a big White Cat on a sign. In large writing was ‘The Farm’, and there was a weird skinny white cat that was standing at the door. He looked up toward the trio and could see one was injured.

<p><n>I see that you require some of our medication. You two seem to be new faces around here. Would you perhaps be new customers?</n> His eyes were sharp and almost devious along with his smile. <n>You see, we grow and sell senzu beans all throughout the world. Our company is called The Farm. If you need to purchase a bean you should do it here. Ah, but I feel that you don’t have the slightest clue what I am talking about. You think this is a hospital, yes? Well this is much better than that.</n>

<p>He was just going on and on without giving Barkley or Elijah a chance to react or speak for that matter. Again, before Barkley could open her mouth he presented a green bean towards Barkley and it kept her quiet for a split second until… <b>Uhm, what the heck is this?</b>

<p><n>A sensu bean. It is a super food that heals fatigue.</n> Barkley didn’t know what to really say, and didn’t know if she had enough money to even buy it. She was also skeptical of its use.

<p><n>You seem skeptical. Fine how about I allow you to try this one bean. After you see for your own eyes you will come running back for more.</n>
<p>He flicked the bean with precision, right toward Soul’s mouth and with speeds that could not be read, the cat appeared near Soul and jammed the bean into his mouth and forced him to swallow it. <n> Now just watch…</n>

Soul floated in a realm of darkness that both lacked light and sound, and seemed to be made of a silky velvet that refused to let him do anything beside barely think and breathe; both suffocating but providing comfort at the same time. His mind trudged through the murk that were his thoughts, and he wondered off-handedly; Is this what a cocoon would feel like?

Light appeared, and with it came a burst of clarity and energy which he used to break free from his mental confines before shoving himself forward, and entered the light...only to appear in a place that felt both foreign and familiar at the same time.

It was a labyrinth, but how he knew that Soul didn't know, but the mere thought was accompanied by a pang that belonged to a distant memory...and filled with the feeling of both delight and dread.

He tread through it slowly but surely, trusted his instincts more than rational thought to lead the way, but still encountered several dead ends before he found and took several sets of stairs. Each staircase seemed to grow older based on the appearance of the walls growing darker, and soon cracks began to make themselves apparent in both the paint and the walls themselves.

He took a final step and looked first up at the scripture that adorned the broken archway, noting that it said; As A_o_e; So B__ow.. Several of the letters were missing due to the passage of time, but reading the small section still caused him to frown.

Next, Soul examined his surroundings, eyeing the lichen covered walls, which were all cracked and barely even held together. In fact, it looked like the lichen was a hasty repair to keep up the walls, while the walls supported the lichen.

Then, he looked down the hallway, seeing several sporadic torches that were either lit and blazing eerily...or dead next to over a dozen doors.

Except for a single light was at the end of the hallway, located on the wall at the dead end; the torch just a bed of coals, which barely provided a pool of light within a couple feet. The left edge of the dying light captured the frame of a solid metal/stone mix door, with a thick wooden beam across the middle of it.

The right side of the coals captured a runic-steel interweb that overlapped hundreds--if not thousands--of times, even in the small section that was visible to his eye only a few dozen meters away. Soul took a step, and everything shook, nearly sputtering out with his consciousness while the sound of a laugh caused the hair on the back of his neck to rise.

Movement above him, the dust falling away from the wall to reveal the full sign; As Above; So Below.

Suddenly, the feeling that he shouldn't belong flooded his being, and he took a step back, but not before a long, metallic grooooooaaan filled the hallway.

The lights sputtered all along the hallway, even as to where he was by the stairs, and one by one they went out starting the farthest away from him. He turned--

The Hybrid pitched forward, eyes snapping open to see an odd site before him. A cat--a tall, slender humanoid one at that--and slightly creepy if he had any say in the matter--stood across from him with a smile.

That smile turned to a puzzled frown when Soul saw flame-red hair next to him, and he turned, seeing Barkley and a sign behind her that said; The Sen-Barn, and looked like a plump silver cat. He blinked once reflexively, and everything shifted slightly, but still caused his hair to rise instinctively.

The cat changed from silver to white and grew several feet, and the lettering underneath changed from it's scribble to a normal font that read; The Farm.

What...?

Soul's head turned, him mentally trying to shake off both the weird dream and now this, only to see a familiar face. A familiar, enemy face.

His hand twitched, blurred, and the rest of the Hybrid's body followed suit while he attempted to both push Barkley behind him and draw a blade from thin air...that failed. However, battle experience allowed him to not slow at the failure, and instead go to the hidden pouch at his waist and draw forth a serrated dagger that he then held to Eli's throat.

"Explain, now."

The words were both aimed at everyone and no one in particular, but he didn't know where he was, or what had happened, and coupled with the eerie vision and dream...

Barkley was actually very quick to find out a place to bring their comatose companion, pulling out one of the electronics that young Earthlings stared at no matter what they were actually doing. She poked it for a few moments before putting it away and calling back to Elijah to follow her to some place called The Farm. She seemed a little between excited and frantic now, and she cruised at speeds the young demon was hardly comfortable moving at. Between that and carrying Soul, keeping up with Bark was more work than he would’ve imagined.

Thankfully, it wasn’t too terribly much of a jog until she stopped and dropped low in front of a large building. ‘The Farm’ was certainly unlike the hospitals that Elijah had seen in the cities. People went to great towering architecture full of men in white robes and people dressed in solid colors. Yeah, this was very different indeed. The weirdest part, though, had to be the fact that a white cat was the one who addressed them, and as far as he could tell, the only one around. It had a deceiving face. He could tell it was probably rather cunning, but what choice did they have other than to trust it?

Not much time was allowed for introductions as it spoke swiftly without breaks, jawing on and on about this ‘senzu bean.’ When he finally took a breath, he popped out what looked to be a plump lima bean and described it as a, “super food that heals fatigue.” Elijah admittedly had his doubts that any mortal being could come up with such a thing, but pushed his ignorance to the side and observed as the cat tossed the bean into Soul’s mouth.

The changes weren’t imminent, but it was very clear something in fact was happening. It was almost like his face and skin sort of got back his charismatic glow. Like he was more in a slumber and less knocked out cold from an explosion. Within moments his face regained tension and his eyes opened. Elijah didn’t really think about circumstances or what to expect, considering he’d just carried Soul some great distance.

That’s why the whole dagger to the throat debacle was one that caught him of guard, to say the least. One second everyone seems a little happier to see their saving grace brought back to consciousness, the next everyone is watching said savior threaten to behead Elijah.

“Explain, now.”

That’s all he had to say? He was clearly on edge, but come on. How cliche, Elijah thought. “Easy there, Soul, don’t make me regret carrying your lying ass all the way here. You haven’t even explained what the hell you were doing in the forest the first time we met.” And it was true, the tension was easily brought back to being mutual. The young demon still had some distaste for this being. Even though Soul technically saved him, it wasn’t to rescue Eli, but to care for Bark. Respectable, but didn’t do anything to put his concerns to rest.

“And what the fuck is that reaction anyways? A knife? You just stopped everyone from dying with some crazy flashing lights and floating runes. Surely you don’t need that.” Elijah raised his hand slowly and put it between the jagged edge of the blade and his throat, before stepping back slowly.

“Honestly though, I doubt you really care much what I have to say, neither of us are going to be very rational now, are we? And that’s besides the point, I think we might have to swallow our pride for the moment.” He looked down towards the red headed child and back to meet eyes with Soul. “That witch. She did summon four demons. I’m not sure exactly where they are, but she their bounty with blood and they’ll surely be fulfilling their duties somewhere.”

Elijah’s speech was over, he’d said his part. Now it was pretty much up to Soul’s discretion whether they focused on the bigger issue or if he wanted to settle his differences here and now. Admittedly, there probably wouldn’t be much settling. More along the lines of a royal ass kicking where Eli was treated like a rag doll before meeting his unsightly demise. He wasn't just going to back down though, Soul had explaining to do of his own.

<p>Barkley was fascinated at the workings of the bean. Soul popped back to life and her eyes widened. That was simply amazing. But that feeling of wonder died off quickly when Soul pulled out a knife and went at Elijah. Elijah barked back (hehe I said barked) and the red head girl didn’t know what to do at first. Two men were at each other’s throat and while they were the slendy white cat silently faded into the background in a creepy way.

<p> At-least she knew what The Farm could do and when she saw her map on the GPS it had shown a lot of them around. Now it was all about inquiring on prices. Well, that was if these two didn’t kill each other first. As Elijah tried to rationalize the situation by mentioning the demons that were summoned, Barkley attempted to calm the situation herself as well by sliding between them and holding her hands out to the both of them.

<p><b>Apparently one of you is a liar and the other wanted to use the witch for help or whatever you were trying to do. I get it, we all have motives of our own. Shoot, I want knowledge and I’m the biggest liar out of the three of us, but I refuse to reveal my lies for my own protection.

<p>Point is, we can sit down at a Waffle House and settle our differences later. Let’s go find these demons and put them away.</b> Barkley was excited. She had never been part of a team that warded off evil or well just inconveniences to the regular world. Demons were dangerous and she probably should call her dad or mom in to handle this.

<p>Barkley just wanted adventure and to see if she could do things on her own.
