The rain drops splatter upon the ground, splashing upwards before finally starting to settle in small pools of settled dirt around the base of the tombstone. The orange haired man had been there for several hours, conversing with the slab of marble and concrete, its words inscribed on it carried great meaning for him.

'Here Lay Jackson Ikatori, loving father and courageous warrior'

Reading those words always filled him with great pride, knowing that his father had left an impact on the world before he passed. It always carried great burden however, his father had passed onto the next world after fighting off a man who had attempted to kill Gray. His last words always etched into his thoughts, "Live son, I love you" he said as a blast of energy wiped his existence from this world as a young Gray watched helplessly.

"So I met a kid father" he started speaking aloud, his hand wiping away a bead of water that was falling from the top of his head and into his eyes. "He's a good kid, some sort of celestial or something. He saw my demon form and instead of judging me, he trusted me and we fought side by side..." he paused as he heard the splashing of footsteps through puddles of water near by. His head turning to see a young man approaching, he was unsure if he was just passing through the graveyard or if he had stopped to visit someone as well. Gray raised his right hand up to kindly greet him, nodding with a welcoming smile.

"Hey there!" Gray's voice cracked slightly as he tried his best to maintain a friendly smile while his mind was elsewhere at that moment.

When a bone is broken it will always mend given time and proper treatment, but it is forever changed. It would be unfair to say that it was weakened. No, the body deserves more credit than that. The bone is simply humbled. It has learned it's limit, and desires not to reach it again. Volg's wrist reminded him of that limit on rainy days like this one. As he walked through the graveyard, passing stones and statues on either side, it throbbed bitterly. He didn't look up from his feet. They reminded him of boats, slicing through the shallow seas. Though many would deny it, Volg thought the mind worked in a similar way. There is a limited capacity every man has for heartache. When he reaches his limit, he is broken, and even after the wound is mended he can be made to ache on those rainy days.

I can't take much more, he thought. It hurts to look at the pictures. But if I don't, I forget my mother's face. What sort of curse was this? To love someone that you would never meet again. To only see them in snapshots of what was, and what could have been. He felt the weight of loss on his shoulders. She wasn't buried here, but then again she had no grave. This would have to do. Each tombstone said something unique, but ultimately identical. 'This man or woman', they read, 'is outlived by those who cared about them most.' If there is a god, he thought, he's a son of a bitch. It's said that life is precious because it is temporary, and fragile. Yet everything is temporary, and nothing is immune to destruction. When all is precious nothing can be.

"Hey there," called a voice from ahead. Volg hadn't realized he wasn't alone. He looked up to see a man with an expression that mirrored his own. The rain drew misery from all corners of the earth, it seemed.

"Hi," he called. His voice was choked with emotion. When had those warm tears edged into his eyes? He crossed over to where the man was standing and read the stone that he stood in front of. For a moment there was silence.

"They always leave too soon, don't they?" He was asking, but his heart knew the answer, so he went on. "How long has it been?"

Maybe if he focused on the loss of another his pain would subside for a while. Besides, this man looked like he could use someone to help soak up the rain.

He had not been asked anything about his personal life for years, time takes it's toll on memories and moreso on the ones you dont use. His father's death was something that he thought he would never forget, he never thought of his only reminder was the occasional visit to speak with him. It was like a breath of fresh air as the stranger's words fell upon his ears. He couldn't help the uplifting smile that was spreading from ear to ear, it felt good to be asked about such a great man.

"It's been about 14 years now." He looked towards Volg with his welcoming smile. "And every year is a blessing." He finished with a confusing message. The words would sound as if he was happy his father was gone, but it was the opposite. Gray was happy to be alive because of his father, knowing that the impact that his father had on him as a child was everlasting. He looked back toward the young man, obviously carrying a different kind of pain upon his shoulders. "Who are you here to visit?" he asked while looking back to his father's tombstone.

Suddenly and almost as if on que, a bolt of lightning fell from the sky and slammed into the ground near where they stood. Gray's head jolting quickly in confusion and concern, it seemed very out of the ordinary for lighting to strike so close. He rose to his feet, his head tilted back slightly to try and gain a better vantage point but felt dissatisfied. He turned towards Volg, a smile returning to his face. "Wanna go check out what that was? Maybe some Zombie strippers would rise and we can have a real party!" his smile turned into a sly smirk as his right hand stuck out a thumbs up.

"Great first impressions..." Ozi spoke from within his subconscious where only Gray could hear, the two had been together since Gray was born 24 years ago. His head shaking in disappointment. "Gray...this is why we don't ever have nice things..." he finished with a disgruntled tone while continuing to shake his head.

That was a good question. Who was Volg here to visit? He couldn't take his mind off his mother, but when he decided to come to the graveyard he was thinking about those children. The six souls lost to a vengeful demon. If only he could've gotten there sooner. He couldn't think of anything to say, and for a moment he froze, staring off into nothing. I should have gotten more sleep last night, he thought. My head is full of snow.

Crack! Lightning struck. He jumped back, suddenly yanked to attention. The man next to him was smiling. How that was possible he didn't know, but it was a comfort. His father had obviously been a noble man, a blessing indeed.

"You know," he paused to clear his throat. "that's not a bad idea." Zombie strippers? He couldn't help but chuckle. I think my sense of humor might have a gravestone around here too, he thought. How long has it been since I cracked a joke?

"My name's Volg."

The boxer looked up to the same spot as his new companion. A hill sloped upward at the edge of the graveyard, gaining a few hundred feet in elevation. At the top he could see the beginnings of a brush fire.

Crack! Another bolt of lightning hit the ground a few yards to their right. But it hadn't come from the clouds, it was coming from the top of that hill.

"There's definitely something up there," he said, starting to jog in that direction. It felt like some exercise might raise his spirits, and he had a feeling there was a fight waiting for him today.

It didn't take long to reach the top. Up there the hill flattened out into a wide sort of base. There were scraggly bushes burning up there and he could see that it was coming from something at the center. He expected a little flame from the lightning, but it turned out to be an inferno. The fire was bright white, hot enough that the bottom of his coat was getting singed. He was about to ask Gray if he knew what was going on when he heard a voice.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE"

It wasn't a normal voice, it didn't even sound human. Volg's face flushed hot, and his spine tingled. He didn't realize it but he powered up in reflex, bracing himself to move away if he needed to. It might have been useless, he didn't know if he was fast enough to dodge lightning, but at least it gave him a chance.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE" echoed through the graveyard as its vibrations bounced off of one headstone to the next. Gray was not the brightest tool in the she but even he could tell this person was pissed about something.

He turned his head toward Volg who had powered up out of reflex, it was quite impressive reflex that he admired. His reflex was more of a contraction of muscles within his rectum to stop himself from defecating out of fear. His mind clearing of such fearful and embarrassing actions as he refocused on the creature who had risen from below an unmarked grave or a gateway to hell. He wasn't sure what this creature was so upset about, but his appearance was just as frightening as his voice. He was covered in what Gray could only hope was a mixture of dried and wet mud that carried a dark red hue but mostly brown. His face could not be made out through the cover of dirt that concealed it.

"YOU WILL SUFFER AS I HAVE!" he shouted one more time, his hand rising in the air and materializing a scepter of some kind out of thing air that he slammed onto the ground.

"What the hell is that?!" Gray asked as he pulled his right arm back to his side while bringing his left arm upwards into a guard. His energy began to rise slowly but stopped as the ground beneath Volg and himself had erupted into a bright white flame that emitted a blue hue. The two of them were already trapped in the center of the fire, but something was off. It didn't burn, it was not hot, but it did smell of death. They could feel something changing beneath their feet but were unable to focus on the ground as the flames wildly erupted around them. Gray threw his arms to his side as he stood up, his body exploding into his orange aura as he spiked his energy to its max. He had attempted and failed to use his burst of energy to cause the flames below his feet to disperse. He looked around frantically for a moment as he felt his body become warm, was the fire actually burning his sense of feeling? He looked down to see the blue flame climbing up his gi, passing his midsection and eventually swallowing his entire body. He could feel pressure of some sort with what he thought may have been heat from the fire around them.

"Calm down gray..." Ozi whispered calmly as Gray's body felt incapacitated.

"Calm down? Calm Down!? Did you not see what just happened?!" Gray thought to himself so that Ozi could hear his thoughts.

"The fire is not real, but the effects you are feeling are transferring you to the realm of lost souls." Ozi finished, his history of being a demon allowed him to have experienced multiple realms between heaven and hell, this one seemed to be his favorite for some reason.

The fire began to fade around his body as he could feel control of his arms and legs returning to him, he lifted his hands up frantically to check for burns. Nothing. He rubbed his face to see if anything had been melted but again felt nothing. His eyes scanned the arena around them, it was different than anything he had seen before. The hue was a purplish overcast that made it seem like night time. The sky was lit up with millions of star lights above him, they were beautiful to look at and appeared to be so large and near by. Were they now on a distant planet. He was still unsure, but he could tell where ever they were at now it wasn't earth.

Volg's knees hit the ground. Stone that shined in the purple starlight replaced the dirt. Once a hill, the land beneath them-if he could still call it that-was flat and smooth like the tranquil sea. He remembered his mother, the friends he'd kept, his plans and ambitions. They slipped from his grasp down into the cracks and divots of this new place.

He held his face in his hands to stop the spinning. What a mess. To his right, Gray was still standing. Could he find his feet? First the boxer slid out of his coat. Sweat was already pouring off him, making it stick. One foot at a time he pushed the ground away, stumbling but staying upright.

What was that? Ahead of them, it looked to be a man. But the shape was much too large. Or was he closer than he seemed? Volg shook his head. No, that was definitely a giant man. It must be the same man from the graveyard. He was quite different here. This was the body that horrifying voice belonged to.

He was a melting pot of earth's natural features. On his right side lava floated molten chunks of rock into the leafy vines that made his shoulder. The left was growing shards of ice away from desert sand that flowed from his hip to his knee. There was greater variety there too, but he was too far away to tell. Never in his darkest nightmare could he have imagined something like that. To be facing it now, and the target of it's rage, was enough to make him tremble. It got better though. That is to say, it got worse. The spirit-he decided this could be nothing other than supernatural-wasn't alone. Mysterious humanoid shapes stood off the ground in sickening reverse reflections. Their mortal forms were flat on the ground. Shadows stood in three dimensions instead. None of them were as large as the man from the graveyard, but they looked as angry.

"You are responsible for my planet's suffering. I am The Protector of Earth; your kind is a blight on the world."

The Protector's voice took on an aloofness that made Volg feel he had already died. It didn't sound like the anger of someone preparing to deliver justice. The contentment of a judge satisfied with the sentenced they passed down was closer. He looked to Gray, wondering how much fight the man had in him. The power he sensed made his throat tight and twisted his gut. When had that happened? He usually sensed things without focusing. The number of high powered fighters nearby must have distracted him. Gray's power was immense compared to his own.

"Hey, we're not going to talk our way out of this one." Well that was obvious. He was trying to make a joke but it sounded hollow. Volg might not find a way out of this one at all.

The figure's true identity that stood before Gray couldn't be mistaken, he had recently had a confrontation with him before being killed by his own ally. Gray turned his gaze in Volg's direction, his demeanor changing from his relaxed persona to one of more serious and down to business approach. He could feel that there was a large difference in energy between Volg and himself. He was not going to let anything happen to his new friend, they would get out of this place together.

"Maybe we can practice the salsa and see if we can dance our way out of here?" Gray returned a compassionate response toward Volg, his way of letting him know to stay calm and that he himself was preparing for the approaching battle.

The shadowy figure only stood and stared, his head cocked to the side as it looked toward Gray. Its facial expression seemed very bland and unemotional in any form. Were these just mirror copies of who they were portraying? Why would it choose War of all people to portray before Gray. He glanced past War's shadowy silhouette and locked eyes with the figure that brought them to this realm. He was still unsure of who this was, but he knew that they were not going to let them leave without a fight.

The young man turned his gaze back toward Volg with a smile, knowing that they were about to get down and dirty. "Well you ready friend?" he started as his body slipped into an aggressive stance to prepare for battle.

Volg put up his guard. Right hand close, hand over cheek, left hand slightly extended in front of the chin. Feet shoulder width apart, left forward, right heel raised.

"Ready," he growled.

He shuddered and reset his feet, taking a few steps forward. The boxer could see his coach in front of him, adjusting his hands, testing his strength with measured slaps. He could feel the muscles in his arms priming for their memorized extension. One of the shadows was approaching. It looked human, but slunk like a cat, lengthening and reshaping flexibly as it quickly covered the ground between them. Volg wouldn't be put on the defensive; he gathered his energy and took flight. Staying low to the ground, he circled quickly to the right, closing in on the shadow's flank. The demon twisted to face him, lunging with a claw that was deftly smacked to the side with the outside of Volg's left fist. While the opponent's arm was extended Volg stepped forward with his off foot, putting his right shoulder forward. In single smooth motion he extended his arm from the shoulder, twisting the fist. Palm down, knuckles level, twist at the hip and pivot the foot. The shadow's own momentum worked against it, slamming it's head into the oncoming fist. Volg wished he had his gloves so that he could hit harder. But it wouldn't be necessary. The shadow's head exploded outward from a hollow at the center, and the rest of it's form followed suit. Lifelike though it was, the shadow's reflection on the ground vanished with a scream.

"One down!" He shouted.

The celebration was premature, as there were three more shadowy men approaching him. He looked to Gray as not to lose him in case they needed to protect each other. Or rather to check that Volg could reach him if he was overwhelmed. There were only a few powers he sensed here that could hold a candle to that. Meanwhile the boxer would have his hands quite full.

"Quite impressive..." Gray thought to himself as he watched Volg from the corner of his eyes, secretly measuring up his new friends strengths. His eyes eventually repositioning toward War's shadowy figure that stood several feet away. His face lit up with a sly little smirk, he knew that the real War wouldn't dare challenge him because of the amount of strength he had over him. But this shadow figured was conjured up from something, and it had to be the unfinished battle between him and War. He last left the man lying in his own turmoil so he could deal with another four horseman, only to have that horseman kill him before they could finish this battle.

The large shadowy figure lifted his arms up and moved them wildly about. His finger tips touching at the center of his chest as a ball of energy began to form. His white eyes staring at Gray as if to see through his soul. It was unnerving at first. "This is new..." Gray thought to himself as a large ball of energy was throw outward toward him, forcing him to react quickly and leap into the air. His eyes followed the large ball of energy as it zoomed past him down below, but his attention quickly altered and his focus's snapped toward the shadowy figure that now floated above him.His fists clinched above his head and coming down with potentially traumatic force. Gray crossed his forearms above his head, focusing his ki to defend himself as he received the blow in a defensive position. There was still enough force to launch him toward the ground like a bullet, slamming feet first into the ground and creating a crater.

"Hes just as aggressive...." he whisper, stepped to his right quickly as War slammed knees first into the ground where he was standing. "But just as obvious..." he spun around throwing a roundhouse kick that connected on the side of War's neck and launching him away in a uncontrollable tumble that made him look like a rolling brush across the ground. He stood up, his left hand extended outward with his fingers pointing upward and palm facing War. His energy focusing into a large blue ball of energy in his palm before finally releasing it and letting it violently travel toward War. It ripped apart the ground and kicked up the loose gravel and dirt into the air as it hurled toward War. The barbaric oaf raised his hands in an attempt to catch the ball of energy, but his defense was instantly destroyed as the ball of energy ripped through his arms, cracking his radius and ulna in several places before finally blowing off his shadowy arms at the elbow. Letting out a loud screech of pain that echoed through their new environment. He turned back towards the other figure that had summoned War's shadow, his eyes locking with him as he spoke out toward volg. "You about done yet or what?" he finished, ready to take on the bigger guy.

War fell to his knees, his arms blown away from the elbow down. If it was the real War, maybe there would have been some emotion behind the lose of two limbs. But this creature was not War, it was a generated image of him from Gray's thoughts. One that this creature was able to muster with some strange ability. Gray looked over his shoulder toward the man, holding a scepter as he stood proud and unnerving. It took a moment for him to notice it, but the creature actually stood before a door, a large door that had strange writing and sketching on it.

"He must be guarding the exit..." Gray whispered to himself as he looked over to his new ally Volg who still continued to fight his own shadowy figures. If gray could defeat the doorman, than they may possibly be able to exit from this dimension.

He took a step forward but paused, looking back toward War who had risen to his foot and took several steps in Gray's direction. Clearly unable to perform many actions with his arms dangling and leading his defeated pace. He shook his head in disbelief that this shadow could still fight, but that must be a result of having no emotions or even possibly real pain. War had taken another step while Gray was paused before he broke out into a sprint toward the orange haired boy. Gray turned toward war, his eyes closing as his body shifted into a martial arts stance. His right arm was tucked by his side as his left extended outward like an extended claw. His body began to emit an orange glow as he exploded forward from his position and closed the distance between War and himself. His right arm dragging behind him as the wind brushed through his knuckles and emitted the sound of an animal's howl in the distance.

The door man turned from Gray and started to walk toward Volg for some reason, his stance not giving off any ill intent or gesturing an assault of some sort. He stopped after several steps, his hilbard end tapping upon the ground once more, ignoring Gray and his battle with War.

He didn't notice at first, Gray's hand had torn through the shadowy figure of War as he followed through with a powerful uppercut. War's shadowy figure dissolving as pieces of his body seemed to just float away like ash. There was no doubt that this was just some sort of specter that was created from Gray's own memories. He could only shake his head in disappointment as the creature vanished from sight. He had hoped for more of a challenge.

"You...may...exit..." a voice from over his shoulder spoke to him. He looked over alarmed for a moment but found that the guardian had opened the door for him as he watched Volg fight.

"What about my - " he tried to get Volg out as well but was cut off as the creature slammed his halberd into the ground and emitted a bright white light that blinded Gray for a few seconds.

As his vision began to return to him, he found himself standing back at the graveyard, looking down upon his fathers Grave with Volg nowhere in sight. "I hope your okay kid..." he whispered as he rose to his feet, nodding at his fathers tombstone.
