Sunlight filtered through the canopy as Junior following the meandering pathway that threaded its way through the heartlands of the forest adjacent to South City. He couldn't sense his father anywhere, but wasn't entirely surprised by the revelation; after all, his father wouldn't be able to sense him anywhere either. There was no indication that his power level had ever emitted so much as a peep, small as it was anyway. Perhaps he was a new breed of android; not built for perfection but a flawed design whose purpose was to strive for it. DNA memories indicated to him that Cell's sole purpose was to seek perfection by absorbing two outdated androids. The concept that drove Junior was much more abstract though the end state was exactly the same. Only once he achieved perfection could Junior be perfect. The problem with abstract concepts, however, was that they didn't come with instructions. How the hell was he supposed to achieve perfection without the means that drove his father's quest? Without a tail with which to absorb energy, all Junior could do was beat a person to a bloody pulp and stand there gawping like a madman. He supposed that he could eat the person, but wasn't aware of any sort of power generation through such a thing. The snapping of branches and shrill cry of a female in distress cut into Junior's monologue. Taking a moment to direction find the noises, the diminutive bio android sprang nimbly into the trees and hopped from branch to branch towards the source of the commotion. When he arrived, he found himself giggling at the sight that met his eyes. A somewhat portly woman had overbalanced on a small overhand and landed in a thorn bush. The plants were biting into her skin and growing tighter as she struggled. Would she be having so much trouble if she lost a little weight? Junior would never know. "You up there!" she cried, her shrill voice giving Junior a head ache, "why are you just standing there? Help meee!" Junior was quiet for several long moments. On the one hand, she was obviously in pain and distress; yet on the other hand her voice was annoying. "Do you think you would be having this much trouble if you weren't so fat?" he asked. It was an important question and as it often did, curiosity got the better of him. "Whaaaa?!" "I'm sorry, ma'am, I don't think I speak monkey. You should try cow." "Youuuuu!" "Moooooo!" he roared back with a delighted grin, "this is a fun game. Now do horse!" The woman drew in a heavy breath with which to yell and scream at him for tormenting her in her time of need, but as she did so she got a nose full of pollen and sneezed several times before turning bright, beet red. Junior collapsed with laughter, his giggles echoing around the forest and making it appear that there was a live studio audience watching the woman struggle. Not content with just verbally mocking the hapless woman, Junior simulated doing an olympic-style dive into the thicket before emerging and swimming backstroke laps around her, skimming the surface of the thorns but projecting his ki towards them so that he didn't get stuck too. He got rapidly bored with the game when she started sobbing hysterically and floated off in search of something more interesting to play with. The diminutive bio android thought little of the encounter for several weeks until he was sitting at a table in a random inn. There was a conversation about several recent poisoning murders. Junior liked poison: it could be made to do all sorts of things to a person's body that were really only limited by the imagination. One of his personal favourites was to put laxatives in all the foods and drinks at the inn and watch the chaos erupt when all of the patrons realised there was only one toilet. This poisoner could be useful to him; perhaps teach him a thing or two. "Technically the people weren't poisoned," said a latecomer to the conversation, "the poison was injected through a series of scratches, so they were envenomed. Everyone just sort of looked at the small man. He was barely taller than Junior with a high pitched squeal of a voice and thick glasses. Poindexter had the kind of face that made you know that you could punch it and then not feel bad about it afterwards. In fact… There was a bone-jarring crack and the delicious sound of tiny fist hitting boney flesh as the interloper's head snapped backwards and he went staggering away from the table. Junior had just given him a tap but even at his tiny power level it was enough to cause serious damage. Half of the table looked amused and relieved, the rest were concerned about whether or not poindexter was still breathing. Junior wandered over and gave him a kick in the stomach. The whoof noise that emanated from the now groaning man child's mouth indicated that he was indeed still breathing. "Where was the poisoner?" he asked the group nonchalantly. "Tapioca Village, about twenty kilometres south east of here," stammered one of the terrified occupants of the table. "Thanks!" responded Junior with a broad, toothy grin that showed his fangs and terrified them even more. He floated off through an open window and proceeded in a south east direction as he was told. He found the village without much difficulty, but realised very quickly that he had no way to track the murder in a way that let him talk to them. There weren't any witnesses to the murders thus far, only hapless joggers who stumbled upon the corpses early in the morning. That suggested to Junior that the people had been killed at night time. Since it was day time, he resolved to float around the village for several hours distributing irritation and fear in equal measures. Once he grew tired of this entertainment he floated up to the clock tower at the centre of the village and had a nap. He made sure to silence the bells beforehand, for the first time he had made himself a perch of this nature, the tolling of the bells had startled him so much that he destroyed the tower and everything around it. It wasn't the destruction that bothered him: Junior loved to cause a bit of mayhem. It was that he hadn't been able to enjoy the destruction because it had been accidental and he wasn't properly awake yet. By the time he awoke naturally, it was well past midnight and Junior was angry with himself for potentially missing his opportunity. Fortunately, he could see with his ki senses that there were several people out and about at this time of night but not so many that he had trouble keeping track of all of them. Most were on their own, but several were in groups of two and three. Junior could discount these people almost immediately because it was unlikely that they would bring a friend to "poison a random idiot" night. Or envenom even, he thought to himself with another giggle. When two of the presences converged and stopped, Junior decided to check it out. He was as quiet as possible as he floated towards the two people and was happy to note that they seemed to be arguing about something. When Junior got closer, he was delighted to see that one of them was the fat woman who had fallen into the thicket. He wondered if she was to be the poisoner or the poisonee or even if he was completely wrong about what was happening. It would annoy Junior if he was wrong about this; he didn't like to waste his time when that time could be spent having fun and tormenting the people of South City. Everything happened so quickly that Junior almost missed it. The fat woman lashed out with her hand to slap the other girl across the face. Once she had finished, there were three claw marks on the side of the girl's face that immediately began to blister. Junior could see the infection from the poison spreading through the girl's veins and turning them black. When it finally consumed all of the blood in her veins, the girl collapsed, thick black goo running from her eyes, nose and ears. "Fat woman!" said Junior with a delighted squeal. She made an inhuman roar and lunged at Junior with her talons outstretched. He easily ducked out of the way with another giggle. She charged again with the same results. And again. And again. And again. "If you keep exercising like this, fat woman, you might lose some weight." She sank to her knees, defeated. Before Junior could say anything else, she started sobbing and telling him all of her troubles. "I don't care. Stop being boring." She didn't listen. Junior didn't like it when people were boring. Now that he was closer to her, he could see the way the ki moved inside her. It had been corrupted by something and had turned each of her fingernails into a poison stinger. Everything led to the brain, as though she had been infected by something that had changed what she was. Junior's fingernails elongated slowly and quietly, their edges glinting in the moonlight. With one simple stroke, he tore her throat out. The second strike was slower and more surgical. It required precision and several cuts, but the woman's skull cap was removed in several moments. From there, Junior removed her brain to look at it. On the underside, near her cerebellum was a small black tumour. Still using his elongated fingernails, Junior cut out the tumour and popped it in his mouth. It tasted bitter, but once he bit into it a sweet juice spilled onto his tongue and down his neck. Savouring the taste, Junior chewed slowly and swallowed the morself. He regarded the rest of the brain and with a shrug, bit into it tentatively. It tasted horrible. He spat it out, the juice and grey matter splattering over the fat woman's face. Junior was disappointed that the last part of his meal had ended with something that tasted yucky and resolved to find something more tasty to eat so that he wasn't left with the taste of brain on his tongue. He was about to float up into the air again when somebody screamed. Junior whipped around to see another female jogger staring open mouthed at him. Even the mischievous, diminutive bio android could see how she would be scared of this. There was a four-foot nothing blue creature with brain on his hands and dripping from his fangs standing next to two dead bodies, one of which owned the brain that he had thrown in disgust when it didn't taste as nice as he was expecting. With a giggle, Junior started walking towards her. Word Count: 1835 |
