That look on her face...

It had been about a week since they had gone swimming together that last time, and while the heat had abated a little bit, it was still fairly warm for the time of year. Of course, most of the people of Querenci were making sure to prepare for the colder weather about to come, but Daji was making sure to enjoy the warmer weather before it got too cold--then he would have to bundle up a bit warmly, albeit Shin seemed to be looking forward to the colder air. Especially with the planned trip to a place called St. Vincent's...

He had already kicked himself a little in his mind after he had mentioned it, the kind of place it was and the weather they would see there. Maybe going there while she waited for the weather in Querenci to cool down was probably why she wanted to go, but after spending this much time with her already, the Kitsune could tell it was because she just liked being in new and interesting places--well, as far as he could tell. She was a little eclectic at times, but he rather enjoyed that part of her. It kept things interesting and it always resulted in something new being experienced, even if it sometimes resulted in some trouble.

But that look on her face... it still stuck with him even after all this time. Even as he was preparing food and other provisions for their journey to St. Vincent's, since it was something of a trek for the both of them to undertake to go there--and this time, Daji had done at least a little research about the place they were to travel to--particularly the fact that GRIME was supposedly there. Why or how... he didn't know. Not yet. But her face...

That look of pure happiness in the waves of the ocean, a naked beauty of joy--it was a hard image to get out of his mind.

He wrapped up another bundle of bread and fit it into his rather large pack, preparing food that would keep them going through their trek towards the very cold region of Querenci--after all, it was good to be prepared!

Shin tried to remember the last time she saw snow. She tried really hard, rubbing her temples as she did as if that would bring the memory up. Sometimes the odd way her brain worked was inconvenient, even if it kept even the greatest telepaths on Kanassa from learning much about her. How could they when she couldn't remember herself? There were tactics around this too of course, but even diving, a mind reader would find themself in a maze where free swimming was difficult.

Eventually something came, though she could not say for sure it was the very last time. Snow was falling in large flakes only to melt as they touched the warm ground. There was a boy, his face quite still and unchanging even as the white specs caught in his purple hair. His eyes were like the guardian's, seemingly unseeing with almost a film across them, and yet still they were piercing as if he could see something much deeper.

Shin let out a happy sigh of fondness. In a few moments, the memory and everything tied to it would disappear once more, but it was a good memory that she found and she would cherish it while she had it, at least until she let it go.

She moved back to tying up her boots. She quite liked clothes and shoes when she wasnt meant to be training, and these boots went all the way up to her knees over the long underwear and in the end hidden by her pants. It still felt good to wear. Once they were tied properly she was ready. She didn't prepare like Daji, taking a light pack, left mostly empty to fill at the shops, her sword, and some currency and the fancy card that Juch gave her. She'd been on longer travels than this, and while she reveled in comfort, she knew how to buckle down in survival settings better than most. She didn't need to prepare anything else because she knew how to provide anything she was missing. It was something she felt Daji ought to learn but his need for preparation seemed almost anxious:

"Shishou~!" she lets out happily as she peeked around the bend grinning in eagerness. "Ready yet?"

He could hear her dressing and fidgeting with her gear long before she had spoken up and peaked around the bend--his hearing was incredibly sharp, and while her movements caused one of his ears to turn in her direction, it was not enough to distract him from his preparations, putting everything into the pack that he possibly could. Once he was finished with his preparations, putting everything into his large pack and securing its flaps, that was when she spoke up with her question, provoking a warm smile from his face as he looked towards her. He still could not help but remember that look of pure happiness on her face those few days ago, and he couldn't help but feel it infectuous even so long after the fact.

"Almost! Don't worry, it won't be long until we're off," the Kitsune said with a closed-eye smile and a nod towards her as he moved towards another table, pulling a few things from a drawer and holding it in his hand. From where she was, she could see it as one of the runes he affixed to his outfit for rapid use when using the rune-jutsus of his. He held two in his hands, small buttons that could be pinned to virtually anything--but runes could be placed on anything, really. Fabric, belt buckles, anything that was relatively tangible. He tossed one up into the air for a moment before he stepped towards his student with a smile on his face.

"You remember the runes I use for my ninja arts, right? Here, take these two," he said, passing them to her. She would have only been slightly introduced to them, but her having them would help a bit with his anxiety. She was probably keen enough to tell that he was packing a lot just for a trip to a town--and the truth was, he was worried about dragging her into something involving GRIME and what might be waiting for them there--for him, specifically. He wasn't sure if GRIME held grudges, or if anyone there would even remember him... but he also couldn't help but remember Master Adel's words.

"Preparation is the key to victory."

One of the runes held the symbol of Air, while the other the symbol of Fire. "This one can provide you speed and manipulation of air, while the other can provide heat whenever you need it. Since we're going somewhere cold, it's important to have a source of fire in case things get too harsh... and the air rune will provide you air in case you get caught in an avalanche or need to make a fast retreat. Here," he said, demonstrating the hand gesture for each one--each rune had several uses, but he went over two or three for each. Had they more time, he would have drilled her on each one to make sure she got it right... well, there was time enough for that during their journey. She just needed her feet to walk if they went by land, and by sky, well, she just needed her Ki for that! Plenty of time to have her practice.

"All you have to do is touch the rune, use a little of your Ki to activate it, then make the appropriate hand gesture. I want you to practice the hand gestures during our journey to St. Vincent's, alright? This is the next step in your training, even if we haven't... haven't exactly gotten the fundamentals down. You're probably sick and tired of doing nothing but stances and finding your center, huh?" he said, ending his little speech with a bit of a tease as he gave her a coy smirk.

Shin’s lips immediately pursed when Daji said almost, but they softened again as he assured her they would be off soon. Her arms crossed for a moment, but then she decided that was too hot and aired out her jacket some. She wasn’t good with hot or cold. In fact, she had a very delicate balance when it came to temperatures. Coldness you could do something about however. Hotness was something you had to live with. It was hoodie weather in Querenci, with a slight chill in the air where the breeze could send a shiver but the sun could easily warm you up again. In all her layers, even if it didn’t seem like she was wearing any, it was a bit too warm under the ki orbed sun and it aided her impatience.

She blinked when he came over to her, giving him her attention again after it wandered off somewhere. He passed her the buttons and she didn’t know what it was for a second until he explained. She made a small disinterested face at first but it faded into something thoughtful. She knew his ninja arts were important to him, and while she didn’t think she would need either rune for herself, they might come in handy for someone else, if she so saw the need to help someone else…

She watched him as he showed her the familiar gestures to activate the runes and nodded absently before sticking them in her jacket pocket. While it seemed dismissive, her jacket pocket was the safest place for anything, as the coat was reinforced with metallic fibers and was something she’d more quickly protect than her body.

”Calligraphy lessons…” she mumbles with a small shake of her head as if it brought her bad memories. She glanced back at him in the end, seeing his earnest eyes and dopey smirk. She sighed then lifted her hand and with one ringed finger perfectly mimicked each of the three activation symbols. After which she patted the sleeve with it’s own symbols sketched across it. ”Already passed that class.”

Now, if you asked her which symbols did what, that would pose a whole new problem, but she wasn’t going to wait for him to do that.

”Come on, come on!”

There was somethinga about the buttons that seemed to dredge up something unpleasant to her--a memory, maybe, of something in her past, though despite her discomfort, she managed to show off the hand gestures needed to activate them on her own--quite perfectly, actually. He showed off a little bit of surprise at that, unsure of where she might have learned those gestures--or if she had just been a quick learner when it came to that sort of thing. He couldn't help but smile at her again, especially when she made her quip about 'passing that class', not to mention the symbols on her sleeve. Not exactly the same thing, but in a pinch, she probably could use them for something similar as well.

When he turned towards his backpack, hefting it from the table and slipping it onto his back, she was already encouraging him to just get their journey started, and if he was being honest, he was rather eager to set out on this trip as well! The Kitsune's grin never left his face as he slipped on the backpack and nodded to Shin, informing her that he was perfectly ready to begin their trek towards St. Vincent's--it wasn't until then that he looked over her state of dress, her clothing looking only a little thicker than usual; he couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at it, considering he was wearing a few thicker layers than normal as well, but she always preferred colder weather anyway, so...

"Alright, then--let's get to it! Sorry for making you wait so long," he said with a bit of a grimace and a nod of his head towards her, but the moment was short lived, replacing his slightly uncomfortable look with that grin again. "I keep thinking about last week--your smile is really infectuous, you know?" he asked as he (tried) to lead the way out of the building and towards the open sky so they can get to walking proper. Whether she bolted out of the room before he could or not--well, she could be rather exciteable at times!

Shin tapped her foot and waved him to keep moving forward as if he were a puppy that just needed the right encouragement. When he was close enough, her arms shot out from her sides and she rushed forward mimicking an airplane. She didn’t get very far, knowing better than to trust her sense of direction, plus she seemed to want to jump into the air, the mimicking a clear show of that. It’d be quicker to fly! They couldn’t do that to places like Valir or Biscopo but Judif was lax even after GRIME’s activities. She didn’t mind a good hike, but with all these layers, a wind at her back seemed more appropriate. She really had no choice but to follow Daji’s lead however.

That was when he spoke up again, causing her head to tilt as she looked back to him. Last week? What happened last week? She could hardly remember yesterday and as far as she knew she smiled a lot, almost obnoxiously so. She wanted to know what he meant however, and so she did, the memory of their day at the beach coming in clearer than any other memory she had. Such a convenient power when it worked right!

”You sure it’s not my bosom?” she asks, genuinely curious. She definitely had fun that day, especially as they successfully handled their fish. She was likely smiling very widely, but then, hadn’t she on other days too? Which led her to the one inconsistency, the one difference of that smile, and that was the fact they had been butt naked.

”They do tend to bring smiles~” she adds in a flirt, this time with a crooked grin. Despite her brash personality and obviously unconcerned nature in her nudity, she still knew full and well the value it had on some people. Daji had passed her more than one gaze that day, oh, she remembered that too, and there was no denying an attraction. It brought her own mind back to the sight she witnessed, which gave her a small pause, her face shifting to the satisfied one she often got after eating. In the end however, this brought thinking about fish, which led her to food, which brought her back to their trip to St. Vincent’s.

”Onward wayward traveler~" It was a phrase she had heard before and one that her anime watching friend had explained as 'difficult to control or predict because of unusual or perverse behavior' "Chat as we go~”

Her excitement for getting on the road was enough to make the Kitsune laugh from the gesture--from her wild arm waving to the act of being an airplane, he couldn't help but feel her charm when it came to being so carefree. It did give him a bit of an idea--and of course, flying would probably be faster, provided they didn't get into trouble for flying in the first place. Well, for now, they could go at it by foot until their legs needed a break, then they could take to the skies from there--after all, this was just as much of a training exercise as a lot of other things they did.

She seemed to grapple with what he had said for a moment, as if not sure of what he was speaking of--she often had a bit of a short memory, unfortunately--but she eventually, recognition seemed to appear on her face as they walked, slowly approaching the main road from the Holy Lands and into the rest of Grace proper--it would be a bit of a trek, though he had to admit, flying would have been faster--but now that they were in the middle of a conversation, he kept his feet on the ground. His face tinted just a little with blush when she mentioned her bosom, the fox taking on a thoughtful look on his face when he tried to remember the shape and beauty of them. He had to admit...

"Well, you do have a nice bosom," he said innocently enough, nodding to her as he admitted that fact. Her flirt didn't go entirely over his head, though, as the blush on his face got a little deeper than before, but he also couldn't help but smile at her all the same--once again, her cheer and free spirit had an infectuous level to it, and he couldn't help but let himself fall into that merriment.

She encouraged him onward a bit more with her statement, a phrase that seemed to come from somewhere, but the Kitsune couldn't place it--he had heard it before, but for the life of him, he couldn't remember where it had come from. He managed a sweet smile and warm look towards her as she insisted that they chat as they went, and now that they were on the road, Daji was more than happy to keep the journey and conversation going.

"Well... actually, everything about you is nice--very pleasing to the eye, and you're a wonderful person to be with," he encouraged her, nodding to her as if reinforcing that fact in his own mind--she was certainly unique and special, and honestly, for all the trouble she seemed to get into, the amount of enjoyable memories they had already made seemed to outweigh the bad--especially last week's dip in the ocean.

As Daji admitted in his typical fashion that she did have nice breasts Shin grinned even wider. Why hadn't she jumped his bones again? The answer did not come but made her thoughtful as she gazed up, finally submitting that they would not be flying. She stretched her arms behind her head as she did. There was definitely a reason or she already would have. She didn't want to know it so it wouldn't appear in her memory any time soon. She wasn't that kind of person, but the most sensible answers were celibacy and monogamy. Her brows scrunched as she tried to remember. Was he a monk or did he have a significant other? The latter didn't really matter to her, but she did dislike being rejected whatever the matter.

She was about to shrug it off when he continued. One brow rose as she looked back to him, still trying to figure out what he meant in saying this much. She knew already though. He didn't mean anything by it. He was always earnest and up front. He was simply saying what he thought and felt.

"Better watch yourself Shishou," she says, a bit of mischief still in her tone and expression. "Those are the only two reasons I need to," she paused, trying to think of the correct way to phrase it so that he'd understand without it turning into a formal mess. "Mate," she says, and as she looked to him her expression was warm but her eyes were serious.

She was about to say something else when the word she used came to her own understanding. She immediately burst out laughing. "Oh Kais, that sounds like I wanna have your babies. That's horrible," she says through her laughter, practically holding her side now. It would take her a moment to regain composure and even then she was wiping her eye from laughing.

"I mean, I'm serious," she manages still laughing a little. "I'm not exactly reserved in sexual partners and you're definitely attractive," she says managing to look back to him grinning widely now at the hilarity of it all.

She was serious, but that only went so far with someone who did not take sex seriously. She was a live in the moment type of person and she had slept with a large number of people she threw away the morning after. She could usually joke away any awkwardness, but when she couldn't that was how things ended. She didn't fight for people like Daji, and she had no serious attachments nor could remember ever having any. Her friendship was Daji was already in her mind as a temporary pleasure. Anything that changed that dynamic would still keep it in that category: temporary pleasure.

She meant it though. He should watch himself. There were regrets in this kind of thing when it was not thought through, or so she heard.

The look she cast his way, with one brow raised, made him think he had said something odd--which wouldn't be a new thing, he had to admit--but her tone still retained that playful expression to it when she spoke up, saying those were the only two reasons she needed to--the Kitsune was taken slightly aback at first, surprised that she had mentioned--mentioned wanting to do that sort of thing in the first place. He felt his face heat up a little at the suggestion, though her laughter about it afterwards helped calm the situation down a little. He was trying to remember everything he had learned about that kind of thing, remembering the closeness he had gotten with Hayami with such a thing--but Shin also stated she wasn't reserved about that kind of thing either...

He remembered what Yan and Hayami had said about that kind of thing--even so far as the fact that he was still taking that pill and still carried a condom with him--trying to figure out if he did, indeed, feel that strongly about Shin or if he was just... just responding strongly to her attractiveness and her charm. Absent-mindedly, he pulled the small packet out of one of his pockets and looked down at it, as if something made of plastic could really give him the advice he was looking for at this time. Realizing the oddity of holding it, he put it back into his pocket and cleared his throat.

Did he feel that strongly about Shin? She was attractive, the way she looked was... well, he remembered swimming with her, unable to keep himself from looking towards her curves. She was cheerful and free, and while she was a bit elusive and aloof sometimes, maybe she felt strongly about him? He wasn't really sure--she had a bit of a short attention span unless he had her focus on something, but... and then there was his relationship with Hayami. Would she mind? She only really seemed interested in that sort of thing during a certain part of the year, and the rest of it...

"I don't think I would mind, if that's what you'd like," he said honestly. Everyone he had spoken to about mating had placed a lot of emphasis on it, but when he thought about it himself... well, he didn't feel like it had that big of a profound effect, at least not with Shin. With Hayami... that was different, wasn't it? Or was that the point--was he violating something by mating with Shin? He suddenly remembered the button he wore around his neck, a last gift from Yan before he had left, trying to think if now would be a good time to ask the red-head if something like that...

Daji managed a big smile towards Shin all the same. "But I'd have to think about it a little bit more."

Shin’s face hadn’t turned red yet. This kind of talk was still just talk and even Daji’s reddening face wasn’t enough to bring blood to hers, not yet anyway. Instead the threat of more laughter was in her throat. It didn’t help how thoughtful this all caused the fox to get, and when he removed something from his pocket she leaned in, bumping their shoulders gently as she expected it to be a new rune and a swift change of topic. It was what it actually was that brought a soft red to her cheeks. Things had gotten serious quite quickly hadn’t they?

When Daji pocketed it again however she let out another snickering laugh as she pulled away. She should have expected as much. He was either going to earnestly respond something like “let’s do it” or he was going to clearly speak his reasons not to, and only after careful thought. He really was such a serious guy~. The answer he gave didn’t help her amusement, but her quiet laughter settled when he faced her with an easy smile.

”Let me know then,” she says, grinning wider herself. She turned her attention back to the ground and hopped along over some roots and leaves, going a little ahead of him now. Shin wasn’t ignorant of course. She knew the whys to the emphasis so many people had placed on Daji’s shoulders about sex. Thinking about it more thoroughly, she wasn’t sure Daji wasn’t. He was the pure hearted type. Even if he carried a condom, that didn’t mean he was experienced or anything like that. In fact, she got a clear reading from him that he wasn’t, at least not at this kind of casual level. Without that, there was no telling the effect sex would actually have.

”Just don’t fall in love with me or any of that jazz,” she says, looking back to him with that same warm expression with a lot of seriousness in her gaze. ”If you do that, you’ll get hurt.” That was the only warning he was going to get.
