Note: I have Baba's Crystal Ball (+15 all stats, +1 RPC to gem spars)

Dust flew into the air as Trumpet threw a scroll onto the desk in front of him. He'd been reading and rereading for hours, and still had no better understanding of what the ancient scribbles meant. He'd come to this planet to learn some incredible new technique, or so Lord Guru had led him to believe but, for once, he was beginning to question the Elder. With a sigh he leaned back in the rickety old chair that he was painfully aware had no sort of cushion or ergonomics to it what-so-ever.

Though he had spent all day in the dusty little library, his mind had been elsewhere. Since arriving on Yaidrat, he'd done nothing but read. Even when he trained with the Elder, everything they did was meditation based. He longed for some action. Then he remembered the glass orb Guru had given him shortly before he'd left Namek. How could he forget, he lugged the thing around in his backpack everywhere he went.

Reaching into his bag to grab it, he accidentally touched it through the cloth cover and instantly his consciousness was transported. He appeared in a vast desert, arid and completely devoid of life save his own. He knew the drill though, whatever the orb's source of power was, it would connect him, somehow, with another fighter. He just had to be patient.

Gem of Telepathy.

Pure physical exhaustion enveloped Black as the gravity machine hummed, the thumping of his heart reverberated in his ears as he breathed in deeply to catch his breath. He slowly exhaled as he steadied his body and his power, the muscle fibers screaming from the intensity of his workout. The machine beeped as it shut off, the two-hour timer finishing its count down. The only way to push his body past its physical limits was to push himself past the breaking point, both physically and mentally.

Sitting crossed legged on the gravity chamber floor Black pulled a small gem out of his training clothes pocket. Just because his body was physically drained didn’t mean he could not focus his mind and search the astral plane for an out of body meeting. What transpired in the mind also affected the body. Closing his eyes Black tightly gripped the Telepathy gem and exhaled slowly. He could feel his mind and consciousness slipping into the abyss, the darkness a bottomless pit as the world of light from the living dimension faded. He was falling and as he fell gave himself over to the shadows.

Opening his eyes Black blinked, the sun glaring into his eyes as he stood in a dry and arid dessert. This took him slightly by surprise, but perhaps his astral projection found itself attracted to this plane of existence for a specific reason. Black cracked his neck back and forth, his eyes scanning his surroundings. Someone else had to be here.

While he waited, the namekian reflected on his plans. Last he'd talked to Guru, the Elder had told him to go to Yaidrat for some special training, and then after that to seek out Grandmaster Adel for more of the same. After that though... he hadn't really given much guidance. Was he supposed to return to Namek, or would Adel give him further instructions from there? It made him nervous - he'd never been without Guru's helpful hand along the way. Just leaving his home was scary, but at least he'd done so following his master's orders. What about when he had none to follow?

Out in the distance, too far for him to make out, Trumpet saw a dark speck that he was sure had not been there a minute ago. Since he'd never run into anything stranger during these little sparring matches, he figured it had to be his opponent. Some of these guys could be a little testy, so when he took to the air to get closer he did so cautiously, should the fighter jump the gun at first sight.

"Hey there," he called out as he neared. "Name's Trumpet, pleasure to meet you!" Landing a stone's throw away, he remained calm at a glance, but his muscles were tense and he was ready to fight.

The Namekian had really come out of almost nowhere, which was extremely impressive. Then again being in a dessert with the heat and the vast expanse of open space sometimes played tricks on the mind optically upon distance and even times depth. Black had never met someone of this species before, but he had read about them in the army’s data base. Fascinating creatures with powerful healing abilities and they were more than adequate in the art of fighting. This was a rather good opportunity to learn about Namekians in person so to say, though in the dessert astral realm was a bit of an oddity. Why had he happened to stumble upon this fighter? Yes, he was definitely a fighter he got that feeling about the being in front of him.

“The name is Black.” The Saiyan bowed his head respectfully while retaining eye contact on the Namekian. “Strange to happen across each other in this desolate place.” He raised his hand slightly to gesture to the surrounding they found themselves in. He noticed that the Namekian named as Trumpet was hesitate and on guard. Smart being unsure of the motives of the one in front of him. Perhaps Black was a little too casual, but he didn’t care to make wrong impressions on the first introduction. He smiled and placed his hands in his pockets while observing even the most minute muscle twitch in the warrior before him.

Black? What kind of name is that... Trumpet wondered. The namekian was more than a little surprised to see his opponent completely, or at least seemingly, dropping his guard. An unexpected turn of events. Usually in the astral world people didn't dilly-dally around very long, but this guy was different.

"Strange, perhaps, or maybe not so much," the namekian replied. "In my experience, this realm, or at least this instance of it, is always occupied by two fighters. Somehow... it knows to connect you with someone else. I'm unsure of it's workings, really, but it seems autonomous."

Trumpet sized up what he expected would soon become his opponent. He looked like a human, but he didn't carry himself like any human Trumpet had seen before. He was more confident, holding himself tall and almost defiant. Not to mention, his hair was pretty outrageous, what-with the way it was spiked up all over. Maybe he was human, they were pretty strange after all, but Trumpet knew well enough that the galaxy was far bigger than the bits he had seen and was willing to admit that Black might hail from a race he had no knowledge of.

A spark, probably nearly invisible in the sandy haze of the desert, danced around his antennae. Not seeing the point in further conversation, Trumpet fired a bolt of electricity from the appendages that flash across the space between them like lightning.

So, the Namekian made the first move, Black reacted quickly as the spark of lightening danced across the short space between them and dove to the left, sand kicking up as he placed a steady hand upon a small rock and flipped back up into standing position. The sand where he once stood sizzled with the electric discharge. A very sneaky move indeed, Black almost approved of it but rather gave a mock clap.

He was not entirely interested in trading serious blows with this fighter, but if he wanted to go a few rounds far be it from him to ruin his day of fun. Cracking his neck from side to side Black launched forward and threw a flurry of punches at the Namekian, pressing his position as he threw combination after combination. He had to admit he was impressed with the fighter’s hand eye coordination as he blocked and deflected.

“I didn’t really have a strong desire to trade blows with you, but you have my interest peaked now.” Black was smiling as he grabbed the green fighter by the shoulders and used him for leverage to flip into the air and twist behind him. “Let’s see if you can dodge this!” A small orb of energy glowed upon Blacks index finger as his hand was formed into a mockery of a handgun. “Bang!”

Briefly amazed that his opponent managed to dodge his attack, Trumpet found himself buffeted but a barrage of hand-to-hand attacks. He just managed to defend against most of them - by way of luck more than anything - though one or two strikes found there mark. Black's strength and speed amazed him, far greater than anyone he had yet to encounter in the astral realm.

As quickly as the assault had begun, it ended when Black used his shoulders like a springboard, flipping behind him. "Dodge this!" he heard. A bright light shined from behind him and he knew what was coming. With no time, or indeed ability to dodge the attack, Trumpet focused his ki into a shield around himself. Still, when the attack hit him, the sheer force of it sent him sliding along the ground on his chest. As he got back to his feet, he noticed that a point in the center of his back felt like it had taken some of the blow, but luckily his shield had mostly protected him.

Finding his opponent a few feet in the air a short distance away, Trumpet took off at a run but long before he was within range he threw his fist forward, extending his arms and hoping to catch Black by surprise with a strong punch.

So the Namekian was quite resourceful, Black acknowledged that as he watched the fighters barrier deflect most of the Ki blast he had launched. He could see the small searing on his opponents back. He could see the glint of mischief in Trumpets eyes even at this distance as the fighter turned and started to run his way, the distance was not great but it was enough to give Black time to gather a small amount of power around his fist or so he thought. It happened quicker than a blink of the eyes his opponents arm stretched out ahead of him as his body closed the distance, his fist poised for a strike. Black had never seen this before and as he tried to twist out of the way the snaking action of the fighter’s arm threw his timing off.

The hit landed, catching the Saiyan square on his cheek lurching him back. To make matters worse Trumpet had finished closing the distance and drove his other fist into the stomach of Black doubling him over.

Hunching slightly as his opponent drew his fist back Black began to chuckle. This was exhilarating, he could feel his fighting spirit increase as his aura burst to life, the ebony shade flowing around him as he stood back to full height.

“Very impressive.” He grinned slightly and then launched forward, energy enveloping his fists as he struck out in rapid succession toward Trumpets chest.

In retrospect, Trumpet would wonder how such a small success as landing a couple punches would throw off his concentration, but in the moment his guard was left completely open. After taking his punches on the chin, Black responded like a champ and responded with his own flurry of punches, albeit harder, faster and stronger. As his opponent buried ki-infused punches into his chest, the namekian could do little but absorb the blows. Fortunately his barrier helped to negate some of the damage but Black's pure physical strength was more than enough to put him down.

Just as his barrier finally shuddered and cracked, a particularly strong punch hit him square in the chest, sending him - once again - sliding along the ground. When he ground to a stop a short distance away, he laid there, breathing hard and strained. His chest felt like it had absorbed a direct hit from a meteor. His mind searched for an excuse as to how he let himself get caught so woefully unprepared for that attack, but nothing came to mind. He had just fucked up.

Crushed, both literally and figuratively, Trumpet closed his eyes. He clearly had more training to do. "Thanks," he managed to croak out. With that he focused back on his physical body, both far away and imminently near. He found himself sitting again at a dusty table, surrounded by dusty books in a dusty room. The pain from his failure was gone, but the memory served a reminder that he was far from the fighter he hoped to become.

Black had finished his combination and felt the impact of his last punch rock the Namekian at his core. The fighter looked drained after absorbing so many hits. Black smiled as he let his power continue to surge his blood boiling with excitement. The Saiyan warrior stepped forward, his aura dissipating as he approached to finishing dispatching his opponent.

“Thanks” Trumpet had croaked that out obviously struggling with speech after the punch to his sternum.

Black raised an eyebrow and jumped forward, his fist aiming directly for where the humbled Namekian stood hunched over grabbing his chest. This hit would surely knock the weakened fighter to the ground if he hadn’t vanished. Blacks fist swung through the after image of Trumpets exit from the astral world.

“And I was just getting warmed up.” Black spat into the sand and sighed deeply, his head leaning back as he sensed the area around him. One could never be too careful with assumptions but it did seem in fact his opponent had returned to the world of the living. Perhaps he had been to forceful upfront with his attacks. In the end, he supposed it didn’t really matter and closed his eyes, the draw of the waking world bringing him forth.
