It wasn’t surprising that Shin’s favorite place in the hotel, perhaps after her suite’s bathroom, was the restaurant connected to the lobby. It housed the bar Yan, Jianghue, and Bassolarr used to frequent, now somewhat lonely with two members missing and the third away on business, but it was also quite the delectable place for eating. Juch had studied the culinary arts on Keliuox, some would even call him a gourmet, so he would not allow just anyone in his hotel’s kitchen. With Juch’s name on this place, it could be nothing short of astounding.

Shin had made a mission to go through every item on the menu. True, she could probably eat the whole menu in one sitting, but she enjoyed taste as well, so she focused on larger portions of one thing at a time to truly appreciate it. At this point, she did not even have to open her menu as the chef already made plans for their best patron’s next meal, finding the next meal on this list and pairing it to it’s utmost deliciousness.

It was here Shin was dragging Daji to today. Well, she was meeting him here. They usually met out in the woods or by the rocks but knowing the kitsune also staying in the Dancing Spider and hadn’t been a long term patron of the restaurant seemed a grand shame, so the snake proposed a proper breakfast. Eating and all that was important to exercising and all that!

She got there first and didn’t manage to get to a table as she chatted up the bartender. It was a similar position one could have found Yan in many a day. Her form leaning over the bar was much more enticing than Yan’s had been, the bartender had to admit, but he still missed the monkey’s charm. At the least, this woman paid him as well and drank as much.

Well, it was the morning shift now, that would have to wait, though Daji would find them with the bartender showing off a new and very fancy imported wine.

”Don’t tell me it’s five o’clock somewhere. It’s like six in the morning.”

”That’s after five~”

The Kitsune had to admit, he had smelled delicious things coming from the direction of the kitchen and restaurant on more than one occasion since coming to live in the hotel with Hayami. Typically, Hayami had insisted on cooking food for the both of them, particularly when Daji started to harvest crops from the fields he had been working on (though Hayami had said that since it was his first time farming, it was understandable if things weren't the best tasting), yet somehow, the female Kitsune had managed to make things taste far better than the male could have imagined. As such, the Fox had only really been tempted to visit the restaurant to see what they had to offer--but then again, they were already kind of imposing on Juch's generosity already, so it seemed a little rude to add to that...

But finally, now that the house and Dojo were finished, nestled just inside the forest to the east of Querenci, it seemed like Daji was finally able to propose to Hayami that they move out there, especially since he had been doing a (slightly) better job of harvesting food for themselves and managing to make enough money on his travels to get whatever else they needed. However, Hayami had been going on various trips for different things, so she still maintained her own room in the hotel, which Daji made sure to visit often after his training sessions (either by himself or with his new student, Shin). However, on one of the resting days of their training schedule, he had been invited to go to the restaurant, especially since Shin had found out that the Kitsune had rarely gone there himself--mostly because he enjoyed Hayami's cooking--and had insisted they meet there for food.

Daji had been a little reluctant to go, mostly because he did not want to spend more money then he really had to--most of it was for Hayami, you know!--but one sniff of the air that led to the kitchen found him a lot more agreeable to the idea, so as soon as he had managed to get cleaned up, he entered the restaurant and looked around, spotting Shin speaking to a man behind the counter. Daji was dressed more appropriately for a day of rest--his Kimono was black, typical for his ninja training, with dark colored shoes peaking out from underneath as he walked. The obi that secured his outfit together was a striking contrast, a snow white sash that had been given to him by his beloved to wear, so long ago...

"O--oh, is that wine?" Daji asked as he stepped near both Shinaki and the bartender. "Mmm--how much is that?"

”Shishou~” Shin greets happily. Since it was a rest day, she was dressed a bit differently too. On most days he found her in shorts and sleeveless shirts, the kind of clothes you were happy to give wear. With no thoughts of training her white jacket was back on covering a crisp, still sleeveless, button up and a long ruffled plaid skirt. It wouldn’t have been off for her to have been wearing nice shoes, heels even, but instead she still wore combat boots.

She had let her attention fall away from the wine for the moment, but unluckily for her, or perhaps Juch, Daji’s attention fell right back on it.

”Five thousand zeni,” the bartender says with a closed eyed grin.

Rather than be taken aback by this expensive price, Shin looked back to Daji with curiosity. ”Is that expensive?” she asks, completely clueless. Querenci was her first experience with spending money for things. Before then it had mostly been thieving, working for goods and board, or bartering things she had. As she told Daji when they first met, she didn’t have much to her name, and that included money.

She hadn’t learned much however because, ”I just put everything on the card Juch gave me.” Once more Shin was perhaps the complete opposite of Daji, spending the Mayor’s money without a care in the world. It was true Shin was under Juch’s employ versus Daji being a ward of Juch’s now former underling. From the outside it looked like Juch no longer had any responsibility over the care of Hayami and Daji with Yan gone, but the monkey would probably come out of his missing state to throw a fit if the android took that approach. It wasn’t in Juch’s nature anyway, especially concerning two boarders that asked so little.

But, was Shin's work really this valuable? Daji hadn't actually seen her do any work at all since he met her. What did she even do again?

Daji managed to cast a smile and nod towards his student in greeting as he approached the counter, pleased that she was so pleased to see him. It was a mutual kind of pleasure--she was certainly a free-spirited and fun-loving kind of person, and even though she seemed to get into trouble here and there, their adventures so far had made it tolerable and enjoyable all the same. He supposed he could have done a lot worse in picking his first student, even if she was having a bit of a rough time with some of her lessons. Her attire was nice as well, though he was not sure if it was because of their get-together, or if she just dressed like this on her own all the time.

The Kitsune turned his head back towards the bartender for a moment as the man gave him a closed-eye grin, holding up the bottle and declaring its price. The color seemed to drain from the Fox's cheeks for a moment as he was rather startled by the bottle's price--all that for just a bottle...? He managed to clear his throat and bring some color back into his complexion, but it was obvious he was a little surprised by the declaration. He looked over towards Shin when she spoke up, giving her a bit of a grimace--a face that would probably convey more then he was probably able to speak at the moment. He bowed his head towards the man at the bar, ready to decline the offer when his student spoke up again about a card that Juch gave her.

That put Daji at a bit of a loss as he arched an eyebrow at her. He had a loose concept in his head about what she meant--basically, they could put a tab on the card so the person that owned it could pay it back later, but if she had gotten it from Juch... well, there was probably a good reason for that. Even though he had never seen her work a single day--outside of training, of course--since he had met her. She was usually either obsessing about food or some other luxury in the hotel, but otherwise... well, he did not spend every waking minute with her, so she probably did a lot of other things. But that...

He turned his gaze back towards the bartender and bowed again. "A--ah, sorry, but--that's a bit outside my price range at the moment. J--just breakfast today, if you please," he managed to say before looking back towards Shinaki with a perplexed look on his face.

"Do... do you work for Mister Juch? I don't think I've seen you really... working? Unless..." the Kitsune started to speak, bringing a hand up to his chin in a thoughtful look as he looked at Shin. "A friend told me that Kings tended to have something called... porcubines? Or... or was it something else...?" he mused, trying to remember what it was that Bulma had told him about King Vegeta--yes, the King, not the planet--but he shook his head. "Or... maybe there's something else that you help out with around here?"

Shin's head tilted a little at Daji's reaction to the price. It was as if all the life had drained out of him. It must be expensive. That gave her a whole new look at life and the amount of money she was making Juch spend. A normal person would have felt their conscience then, or a dread at owing someone as much as she had spent, but Shin wasn't as responsible as all that. If he didn't want her to spend this much he shouldn't have given her the fancy plastic to pay for everything. It had to have a limit somewhere that she still hadn't hit so she must be fine.

Besides, the android seemed to be very particular about his books, and judging from the last one, he wasn't going to be getting any big enough clues to them anytime soon. He was having enough trouble just figuring out the book her had let alone the next one he needed and if earlier or later volumes even existed. His slowness was what was costing him the most money. He was a busy man however, and sometimes you just had to cut your losses and decide what was worth it.

Shin waved the bartender off in the end, but with a small pointed gesture to keep a hold of it for now, and led them to a table. It was then he asked about her work while calling Juch a king and her a...

"Ew. He's old," was her immediate reaction. "I might be the definition of easy but there has to be some spark of attraction!" Perhaps noticing the newest perplexed look on Daji's face she went on to explain: "A concubine is someone fancy rich people use for sex." How in the world she knew that word when she was completely clueless on other cultural cues was...well, kind of expected from her at this point. It really seemed like she picked and chose what she wanted to know about and what she wanted to remain ignorant about, and concubines were on her list as interesting.

"Besides, is Juch really a king?" she asks, sliding into her chair. "He's hardly a mayor from what I've seen. That beautiful giantess--now I'd be her concubine in a second--seems to be in charge while he's gone and even she seems extremely free."

She had no idea what it took to run a city like Querenci, let alone build it up from the ground, but she expected something more. When she thought of kings and queens she thought of grandiose, cockiness, and condescension with their kingdom in their eye and heart at all times. Juch could be a little grandiose, but she wouldn't call him cocky. He was too obviously careful to be labeled that, and his confidence clearly came from preparation and experience. He definitely wasn't condescending and Querenci, while important to him, seemed more like a cog in a giant machine he was constantly fine tuning.

Juch wasn't a king he was a devilish mastermind who moved better behind the scenes. Having the attention royalty brought would only slow him down. But maybe that was just her.

"And really, do you think Juch would put this much cash out for something as mundane as sex?" She quite liked sex, but in the grand scheme of things? Well, it wasn't something she would pay for, though maybe she thought as such because she never even imagined having to.

Daji had a surprised look on his face when she blurted out her reaction, causing his ears to stand quite tall as he followed her to the table she had seemingly picked at random for the both of them. She went on about 'easy' and 'attraction', not really sure what she was getting to at first--but then she described with a concubine was, which immediately left him a little embarrassed about getting the word wrong--and then she dropped the last bit and that blush grew a little more, leaving him a little bewildered and scratching the back of his head in perplexion as he sat down across from her.

"A--ah! I--well... learn something new every day..." he said, the colors in cheeks fading back to their normal color when the subject changed to the topic of Juch being a 'king'. Well, in the Kitsune's eyes, Juch was certainly something close to that, but she might have had a point--he was a bit absent these days from his job of being a mayor, though when she spoke about a 'beautiful giantess', he wasn't sure who Shin was talking about. The Kitsune tilted his head to the side as he tried to rattle his brain about who she was talking about...

"I--I guess he wouldn't have to, if he's paying you a lot for... something? You still didn't answer my question," he pointed out with a bit of a chuckle and a smile towards his student, though her previous statement still perplexed him a little. "But who's the giantess you spoke about? I haven't seen anyone that fits the description of a giant..." he said, tapping his cheek with thumb as he tried to think of some 'beautiful' looking giant from one of the story books Hayami used to show him. He couldn't help but think of something huge and ugly, but... well, the universe was full of surprises.

"...now that you mention it, I haven't seen Mister Juch in a long while..."

Shin laughed gently at Daji’s bewildered response and nodded in agreement. Often you did learn something new everyday, though not always as eye opening as this. He continued on pointing out that she hadn’t explained her profession. Her mouth shaped a small ‘o’ showing that she definitely forgot in all the amusement.

”I find things,” she explains, giving a small pause in case he wanted to give her a look of disbelief. In the time that he knew her she had probably gotten lost more times than he could count, so the idea that she could find anything seemed a bit farfetched. When she did get lost however, and was allowed to do so fully on her own, she always came back with some new story, food, or treasure.

”I think I told you before, I have a way of getting where I need to go even if that’s not always where I should go,” she explains sitting back. ”As long as I really want to find something, I can, without fail, even if it’s in a war zone or hellfire. I will always find the right path, and from there the right thing.” She didn’t explain the hows or whys, but her confidence in this was absolute, and from his experience at this point, whenever she was confident about something to this degree, she usually managed to pull whatever it was off.

Now she leaned forward, resting her chin in her hands while her elbows sat at the edge of the table. ”I can also find memories,” she says with a tiny bit of hush, as if this part of her profession were a tad bit more sensitive. In a way it was. Mind readers weren’t always a welcomed presence, and someone with the power to pull whatever information they wanted to find out of someone’s head was someone to be paranoid around. Daji had shown his own psychic presence just a bit, and she felt the bond he had to Hayami like a soft buzz, though she sometimes forgot about it since it was so constant. She doubted he’d be judgemental, but she’d find it pretty amusing if he was. His bewilderment was quite cute.

Sitting back again she grins. ”Well, not like a giant giant,” she explains about the lovely Jantellovene. ”But she was easily eight, eight and half feet tall. Keliouxan. Real pretty. Sweet too,” she says happily, obviously fond of the Juno woman even after so few interactions. ”As for Juch, well he hasn’t been here for a bit.”

Her explanation regarding what she did for Juch was... well, it was a little unspecific in what it all entailed, but then again, Mister Juch did seem a little driven in his work. Maybe he did a lot of research, what with all the books he seemed to read and own. What it all meant, the Kitsune could not say--he was not exactly privy to what the mayor did in his quarters. He nodded his head to Shin as she explained her... oddly random talent for finding things, somehow finding the right path to something even if she started going in the opposite direction. She was a bit of an oddity like that--though he had to admit, she was gifted in finding whatever she set her sights on!

When she explained being able to find memories, his face lit up like a child in wonderment, his imagination thoroughly captured by her hint as she leaned forward, and he was unable to keep his excitement at bay when he leaned forward as well, lowering his voice apace with hers, as if to encourage her to go on.

But she didn't go into it any further. He had thought she mught be psychicly gifted too, but it had just been a guess... but maybe she would need more training in that field too? He would certainly consider it, but even as she spoke about the giant woman--A Keliouxian, that made more sense now, since he had met a few--he still found himself wanting more about her interesting ability...

"W--what kind of memories?" he asked, the look on his face betraying his interest. It was clear he might have something for her to find too... maybe.

Shin’s head tilted a little, as he stumbled over his words returning the subject to her earlier topic. She expected him to be a little interested, but in his earnest face was something a bit deeper.

”Have you lost some?” she asks, curiosity in her voice now, though it was still light and airy as if she were suggesting he lost some spare change or a bus pass and not something so intimate as a memory.

She knew nothing about cash, but she traded sometimes in memories. When she met someone new, someone who wanted her to work for them, she had to make herself interested. She had to align herself with the person and their wants. Often she asked for a memory, and it was special, but not because it was a memory. It gave her an intimate understanding of the person and linked them together. It was special because it was shared.

Memories by themselves, memories in your own head, well, to her, they were about as important as a bus pass. You needed it to get where you needed to go at a quicker pace. They made things less troublesome. But she quite liked to walk.

”There’s two main types of mind reading~” she says with renewed focus, and it was quickly apparent this was not something she would need taught. If anything, she might have a few things to teach Daji. ”One is where you sync with another person, you trade thoughts and experiences on a surface level. It’s quite useful for espionage or even building a closer bond with someone. It requires trust and control.” There was something in her tone that suggested she wasn’t good at this simply because of those two needed qualities but she was smiling again and talking about it with interest and understanding, so she must not be too bad at it.

”The second is what some people call ‘diving.’ It’s when you submerge yourself in someone’s mind. You go past the surface of loud and active thoughts and delve deep into their memories and consciousness. It can be extremely invasive, but also requires a lot of skill.” Of course, he experienced this before with Sun. She had invaded him, pressing into his mind to obtain the information she sought like a bulldozer. But she was only one type of diver, and honestly, relied more on raw talent over technique.

”The mind is like a labyrinth, filled not just with years and years of memories but thoughts, concepts, fantasies. Finding specific information this way often requires the other person to knowingly accept you into their mind. Even then, it requires a lot of technique and skill,” she continues this time even more happily as she if the complexities of mind was something exciting to her. ”For example, you can use your own memories and experiences to lead the person, you can use triggers,” like Sun had done, pressing the idea of why he was there with each push to get his mind upon the reason, ”but overall you must have a clear sense of self or you might get lost in there, a victim to someone else’s mind as yours rots away~” She said the end in a purposely creepy and dramatic voice but immediately after her eyes closed in another happy grin.

”I can find paths through minds as well.”

"It's... not that simple," the Kitsune had to admit, at least when she asked if he had lost some of his memories. The first memory he had ever experienced was that of Hayami saving him from... something, her helping him in the dead cold of winter, naked and alone, and eventually being taken in by his beloved and even getting a name... his whole sense of self at that point had been given to him by Hayami, and he would never trade that away. But...

There was that moment... when he had been in that room with Yan, when he had been told... that he had been created, rather than born. He did not even have a face to the name, only a name--Lilim. A demon that had created him for some purpose... he still did not know how or why. The fact he had so little to go off of meant... well, it meant that there was just a lot of unknowns behind his very existence.

He shook his head to clear his thoughts when Shin finally described the methods of diving into his mind or navigating his memories. Apparently, it was still a little dangerous, even if he felt no hostility towards his student. If anything, he wanted to see her succeed at whatwver she put her mind to. She was special like that--she had a habot of endearing herself to him.

Her closing statements made the Fox grimace a little at the implications, even if she seemed quite confident in trying to find something that she wanted to find. That confidence had to come from experience... he could tell it was something she had gone through before. "At some point... then we can try. I... I don't know my past, before I was rescued by Hayami--she gave me a home, a name... everything about my life came from her, but... well, before that the only thing I have is a name. Lilim--someone that created me. I dont... know why, though, for what purpose," he admitted to her quitely, closing his eyes as if to try and remember anything before that... but there was nothing. He shook his head again.
